The House by Ginger

"Open for decades on the edge of the old city, this stylish and quirky spot serves a mixture of Northern Thai classics and those with a more modern twist. Premium ingredients like New Zealand beef are a feature, as are organic vegetables and daily picked herbs from their nearby Ginger Farm. The seasonally changing menu includes the Chiang Mai platter – an ideal way to sample an array of dishes. Pair your food with one of their many lovely cocktails and to extend your evening, continue on to the House Lounge next door." - Michelin Inspector

Super insanely gorgeous interior design, (food) presentation, and vibes but the food leaves something to be desired. I really hate to admit that out loud. Ended up going twice though! The appetizer is super cute and was pretty good! I would do a hard avoid on the bird dumplings- the filling was alright, but there is so much dough required of of the super insanely cutesy molds that you just chew through dough for so long. Their drinks are also quite cute, I enjoyed their passion fruit soda.

Even though they were fully booked they gave us the opportunity to eat there (super fast, but it was still a yes and not a “we are fully booked sorry”) Amazing food!! Maybe on the expensive side but still amazing food. For what we got we paid 1200 B, we took a dessert too, but unfortunately I have no photos.

Intended to go to Ginger Farm but was drove here by driver instead. Well things happened for a reason I am sure, if not we won’t have had experience this beautifully furnished restaurant with very service oriented staff. The pictures I posted reflected great culinary skills. Had a wonderful experience here.

We visited the restaurant due to its numerous positive reviews. We started with the appetizers, which were absolutely great. The tom yum curry seafood soup was amazing, and while the salmon carpaccio was just alright, the fried appetizers were excellent. Unfortunately, when the main dishes arrived, they were served cold, lacked salt, and were a bit too sweet. It was a disappointing end to what could have been a fantastic experience, especially considering how well our lunch started.

We just passed the place and spontaneously decided to try our luck to get a table. All table for reservation were booked, but there is an area where they accept walk-ins, with not too long waiting time. But we were then offered a table, if we would not stay longer than 90 minutes, which was great for us. Hence, the receptionist was, but the service at the table soso, as I felt there were too many tables for just one server. We ordered the mixed appetizers, which was good. Nice flavors and presentation. As a second course, we had chosen crispy pork. Unfortunately, this arrived cold at our table, and the reheating did not help much. On the contrary, the crispy pork was now soft. The reaction by the service was not as expected. But the beer ordered was served quickly and really cold.... For sure, it is worth to visit the place, assume we just got the wrong timing....

Not sure what the commotion is about this place. Very difficult to get a reservation here. The staff is very pretentious. The food was meh. Nothing to write home about. Definitely not worth the effort to get a table. The drinks are very, very good. The restaurant itself is very nice. I would skip it and find a restaurant with better tasting food or spend your time at a Spa instead. February 2024.

Came here twice during our stay in Chiang Mai, it was that good! The coconut is perfectly chilled and so refreshing! Every item we tried on the menu was a 10/10 and the restaurant is super comfortable and cool.

Overall a very nice experience. The place is very funky, in an old colonial house decorated with a mix of eclectic antiques. In itself it’s a reason enough to pay this place a visit. The food was good but I wouldn’t say it’s among the very best in Chiang Mai.
