We went to this location 2x within 3 days during my visit to Portland and the drive-thru worker was fabulous! She remembered us from 2 days prior and provided wonderful customer service! Our drinks(chai with oat milk & cherry cold foam) were phenomenal!!! Hence why we went 2x in 3 days!! I would highly recommend this coffee shop and especially this location!

I stopped by The Human Bean and left fully caffeinated, slightly more human, and deeply impressed. The drinks are chef’s kiss—smooth, rich, and made with care. The baristas are friendly, fast, and clearly know their way around an espresso machine. I tried the [insert drink here—e.g., “Mexican Mocha”], and it hit that perfect balance of bold and sweet. The vibes? Chill but energized. Whether you’re grabbing a quick pick-me-up or settling in with a laptop and lo-fi beats, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a regular—even on your first visit. Bonus points for the eco-friendly cups and genuinely warm service. 10/10 would recommend to any human (or alien) in need of good coffee and good vibes.

Friendly baristas, chocolate covered espresso beans on drink lid add a nice touch reminiscent of old school local coffee shops. Frozen hot cocoa is so yummy. Come here just for that. Great app promos too. Like to grab a cup here pre or post walk in the hood. Haven’t tried the food yet.

Wow! Great spot! There's a drive thru and and sizeable space inside to sit and read or study or have a cute lil coffee date, I'm just sayin. ;) The Cowboy breakfast sandwich was delicious and filling and tasted fresh. The Human Bean is a LOCAL store that we can support and give our business. The people who work there are also very kind.

Without a doubt, this is the most consistent location in the Portland metro area. Super friendly staff, my drink is ALWAYS made right, and it’s quick even when there are several cars before you.

I really like the flavor of their coffee & variety of unique flavors + this is the only coffee shop I've ever frequented that's never burned their coffee.

I found my new work spot! Lots of comfortable seating, menu full of coffee, lattes and smoothies, and super nice employees. I ordered a smoothie, and it's really tasty. There's a parking lot and a drive thru. It's also open late, which is pretty cool!

government location was so slow over 45min to even be able to PAY for the drink , made gross went back to ask them to re make it they said "ya we can fix it" took our drinks and then came back and said we would have to pay for new drinks cause they "made it correct the first time" literally just arguing with us but then couldnt give us our other drinks back either unless we paid..... im not sure if this girl messes up a lot or just felt offended but this is not the role for her she would be better at a remote job with no face to face contact. Andrea from the Costco location is absolutely wonderful! The experience at the government stand was a nightmare—I had so many issues that I had to go to another stand just to ask for the owner’s contact information. But Andrea stepped in, fixed everything, and completely saved the day! Photo is girl who needs to be fired

First customer service here is top notch especially from Kyrinne. The first time I visited she was so helpful with purchasing a gift card, she even up sold me and I was not mad because I got a free drink. My daughter and I got drinks at my second visit. I got a 24oz oat milk Matcha blended with lavender and my daughter got a 20 oz green tea smoothie. I never get drinks this big and I probably cannot finish it, but it's so good. I tasted the green tea smoothie and it was delish too. I'll definitely come back. It is also a great place to study and look out the window at busy Sandy. They are very busy but efficient.

My neighborhood coffee shop. Coffees incredible, staff is always super nice, super cozy atmosphere, and plenty of outlets. Nice place to work or to catch up with some friends. One of the best cafes in the Hollywood District.

The staff is always very nice and I appreciate the drive through for convenience. I have been inside to have coffee with a friend and it is a pretty large space. I get an iced mocha and a lumberjack breakfast sandwich. So good! They also have stickers if you ask.

On a cold, rainy day, I was getting my car tires rotated, so I had a couple hours to explore the area. And I stumbled upon this inviting place. It had a drive-thru, yet was unnecessary as I was car-less. I walked in and was delighted to see there was plenty of seating with music playing in the background. It was very earth-tone color like the hot chocolate I ordered. They provided you with a chocolate covered bean. The drink itself was thoroughly chocolately like I was drinking milk chocolate out of the scene from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Furthermore, the internet speed was fast like a cheetah.

Menu was limited and needs to be more descriptive. Flavor was lacking. No indoor seating. You order at a window in the front or go through the drive through. Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend.

I checked out their coffee via delivery so I can't comment on the location/staff, but did want to give a shoutout to their Mexi! It was basically a combination of mexican hot chocolate, mocha, and espresso! Loved how the chocolate and coffee flavors were both present and very much enjoyed the cinnamon and other spices! It was a little on the sweet side but as expected when you combine all these tasty flavors. For someone who likes coffee but a little too sensitive to caffeine, I appreciate all of their drink options from legit coffee to more latte-y coffee drinks!

Lukewarm coffee. Nice windows though. Service was ok. Buddy accidentally left a $3 tip, server said thanks. Lol.

I have to update my review now. I complained in my earlier review that they did not have vegan options. Everything I said earlier about good customer service and a good atmosphere is still true. Even the bathrooms are very clean, so now I have no excuse not to give him five stars.

Although sadly this used to be a KFC at this location, their replacement is a great addition to the Hollywood district. Sure there is the usual Starbucks but having a newish chain grace the NW is a great bonus. Not only do they have the usual coffee drink concoctions and such, their food list is pretty generous and affordable. Their drinks can lean on the sweeter side for those who like it. Their service is quick and prompt on the drive through. A nice added perk that I wish other coffee shops would offer is their complimentary chocolate covered espresso bean that they give with every drink order. I could eat an entire bag of them in one sitting if I could. They just reopened indoor dining so for those seeking the coffee lounge experience post lockdown - give this place a try, cheers!

I liked it! $4.75 for a medium iced white chocolate mocha and it came with a coffee bean! Great price and speedy, friendly service. I come from Seattle and this met my standards!

Not sure if management can see this, but please play the music in the NE location less loud. I get that's likely cheaper than other music or rather the rights have been purchased to play it, but with 4 gigantic speakers inside, I can barely hear my meeting even with noise cancelling headphones. Staff is great, coffee is great, but for the love of god please reduce the volume of the acoustic cover of "radioactive" by imagine dragons )X.

Pretty bland cold brew cold foam is what gives it taste; good thing there's a lot. Very refreshing tasting like the "tea" of the coffee places I've tried in Portland so far, just not as strong kicking. Enjoyable with potential! Staff was super friendly, awesomely helpful & quick (they were pretty busy too) but place had awk vibe ig that's Sandy Blvd tho

Highly recommend the drive thru! On NY'sDay, met up w a friend for coffee and conversation inside the Sandy Blvd location. Was quite cold inside, almost felt like the AC was on; we couldn't take off our jackets. The machines inside were so loud, we couldn't converse. Our brkfst sandwiches were piping hot and tasty but so greasy we had to use many of their little cocktail napkins to wipe our hands. The upholstery seating was too long in the seat making anyone shorter than 5'-7" have to recline for back support. Our Irish coffee tasted like regular coffee with plain creamer--ok but no Irish crème flavor whatsoever. I wouldn't go back [inside] there for a traditional "coffee shop" experience but maybe it'd be aok for others.

The ample, comfortable, and open seating area is offset by the earsplitting grinding excruciating noise of the espresso machines. I can't think of a coffee shop that's louder. Without exaggeration, you sometimes need to YELL at the person sitting right in front of you. This fact alone makes me limit my visits.

Forget KFC, I'm so happy The Human Bean set up shop in the old fast food location. Honestly, I've never been inside... I've only visited the drive-thru. But I've been very impressed with the customer service and friendly vibe the employees help create. The service is always lightning fast, the coffee is always fresh and delicious, and I've had a lot of fun trying different offerings on the menu. They do a great job of introducing new items regularly. Chai tea on nitro, green tea smoothies, chocolate covered espresso beans... however you want your caffeine, they've got you covered. For being centrally located in Hollywood, it's nice they also have a large parking lot. Be careful when pulling out onto Sandy, there is limited visibility to the east and it can be a little dicey during peak commuting hours. Check out The Human Bean, tip them for their excellent service, and let others know what you think!

So I got a 'coupon' in the mail for a free 20oz drink. I had never been before and they are close by & went to the drive thru this morning on my way to work. Of course I didn't read the coupon before going and found myself having to scan a code, download the app etc. Thank goodness no one was behind me But mostly thank goodness for the patience of the nice girl that was working. She never made me feel hurried. She was super kind. Then to seal the deal there was a chocolate covered espresso bean on top of my house coffee (both were delicious btw)! I will definitely be back! Thank you!

this wonderful coffee shop took over from the old KFC that used to be here for many decades and we couldn't be happier. They serve absolutely wonderful coffee with a great service and they put these little chocolate covered espresso beans on top of the coffee, which is really a treat. We also like their snacks to go if we're heading out early in the morning somewhere it's just a consistently really nice place with great service. Easy to get to quick to go in and out, and the taste of the coffee is just delicious.

What can I say? Hands down the best coffee place in Portland! I am from San Francisco & just traveled here for a small vacation & I love love coffee! Delicious! I got the snowy pumpkin & my fiance got the snowy mocha! So so so good both drinks! When I come back to portland I will definitely come back here! Staff also so friendly love them! Such a great & clean environment.

This place was the closest coffee shop near the house where we stayed at, actually it's walking distance from it. This was the first time i had coffee with chocolate covered coffee bean and it was a new experience. We did a drive thru before we went hiking and the server was so awesome to give us tips around the area; it was a good quick talk and my husband and I appreciated all her tips. The coffee for both of us were amazing! i enjoyed it! the blend was different but has the strength i was needing that day to survive the hike LoL. Even their hot chocolate tasted awesome :-)

The people are nice when I've come there. The setting is cozy and welcoming when you go in for a coffee personally. The sandwiches are very yummy, although if you don't feel like you want to spend almost 5$ for a munch I get it.

Good coffee. Reasonable hours. Average prices. Some of the stuff are super nice and bubbly and some of them look at you like you're insane when you order something. Overall, the human bean is always my #1 choice when I go out for coffee, and I don't mind driving out of my way for a cup of coffee I know I will enjoy.

I've been in the drive thru many times, but I wanted to wait for a visit inside before reviewing. Clean, inviting, comfortable. The staff are friendly and efficient. The selection of coffee drinks is comprehensive, with all the milk alternatives to suit your dietary needs. I prefer this coffee to that acid, floral stuff you find at places like Case Study. This brew is solid, strong. No outdoor seating, ears down. But there is a safe place to hook my dog while I run in, with water and a clear line of sight so she doesnt freak out when I leave her. And they had a treat for her. The little details matter. I love the bean on my cup and I dont care who touched it, btw. Lol.

Normally Human Bean is fantastic, but when we got to the window after ordering they forgot our order. When we got our drinks the honeybush was all foam. When it settled was only half full. The other drink was completely wrong. Disappointing at the least.

The Human Bean offers a great variety of drinks from friendly staff but be prepared to wait in line and have an inconsistent drink made. There is often a different amount of ice, flavoring, etc. I have received the same amount of cream in small and large sizes. I've been here at least 20 times because I enjoy the drive through but if I'm not specific about my order, which I usually have to repeat, then it's not made like the last. I'm not a coffee snob nor do I have complicated orders!

One of my favorite places to go. Great coffee, lots of other options too. Teas, smoothies, even food. Quick and friendly service every time.

Coffee? Good. Manager? Great. Guy working this morning? Totally ruined my birthday(today). Rude, inconsiderate, unpleasant. 1 star off just for him, it was that bad. They used to hff ave stamp cards, we all know them. They work well, and there are even some apps that do the same thing. They have now discontinued stamp cards and the app they have is a scary unethical pos. I dare you to read the terms and services...dare you. It makes me question the ethics of any company that would sign thier customers up to it. Will I update this when I'm less pissed? Possibly, but due to the app they will only ever get a 4 star. Ever.

I love to try new places, but I'm not really loving this place. Pros: There are lots of choices. They give a chocolate espresso bean with your drink. They have a frequent customer punch card. Cons: No hot drink sleeve. The cup is so hot I cannot hold it. The breakfast sandwiches are mostly bread. They don't offer a lid plug so your hot drink doesn't jump out the mouth hole and scald you (like it did me). ~For these 3 reasons I'll stick to Starbucks

Since I'm very lazy I love this place for the drive thru. The staff is overly friendly but not annoyingly so, so I like them. I'm pretty basic with my order, iced coffee with cream. They balance a chocolate covered coffee bean on top and you have to be careful or you'll spill it on the ground before you get to eat it. The best surprise is the prices are a lot lower than Starbucks. I would give it 5 stars but, since they are overly friendly and I sometimes find that hard to take before my first cup of coffee, I rate them a 4. Add a little bit of surly and I might consider raising my rating to 5. Something to shoot for Human Bean! Thanks for the coffee!

When my family and I finally got in to Portland we desperately needed coffee to survive the early evening. We located a coffee shop and I'm SOOOOO HAPPY we stopped at The Human Bean!! Not only was the name so adorable but the vibe of the inside and sweet customer service made our experience that much better. Oh, let me get to the drinks! We ordered hot chocolates and Mexican Mochas (I think that's what it was called) and let me tell you!!! It was so satisfying and delicious! Each cup also came with a cute chocolate covered coffee bean! As if the name couldn't be any cuter, they added a bean on top of the cups!! Ugh!! Fantastic idea. My Oregonian family argued that Dutch brothers was the business bc they believed The Human Bean was too sweet. But I thoroughly enjoyed our beverages and experience here. If and WHEN I'm back in Portland, I'll be def sure to stop at The Human Bean!

You know that feeling you get when you walk out of a salon and you just got a nice trim? Nothing too ritzy, maybe just a couple of inches off the top? This place encapsulates that feeling for me. This is a clean-cut, no-nonsense coffee shop that's great for getting some work done. I especially like that they're open later than most of the other coffee shops around. Their brews and smoothies are quite good, the staff is friendly, and they give you a lil candied coffee bean which is a nice touch. Note: They have a drive-through if you're in a rush!

Came here twice to order their vanilla foam cold brew and on both occasions the coffee tasted incredibly weak and watered down. The first time, I returned the drink and purchased a regular drip coffee. I was told that the charge would be voided for the cold brew but that never happened. The second time, I was just shocked that they would serve coffee like that again and decided I would not be a returning customer. My partner pointed out that his latte was very weak as well. Maybe I was just unlucky both times, but it's not worth the risk of wasting money on anymore.

Friendly folks here! Great coffee, too! We went here on a whim, and we're so glad we did.

I don't expect much from chain coffee shops, but this place was worse than getting a cup of Joe at a super 8 motel. The short yuppy blonde that helped me looked clueless and preoccupied. Fortunately there is a Starbucks down the road that gave me my drink for free. Save yourself some time and stay away from this place

Nice place. Awful, awful coffee. Never coming back. Don't care about the good hours or the decent prices. It's hot brown.

Blech. Service was fine, on par with most coffee places..... but food and drink were very underwhelming. I ordered a chai and a breakfast sandwich, the chai was super milky and not flavorful at all, and the sandwich was crappily heated from frozen and included a brick of egg like substance that is hard to describe- gross texture and tasteless. Ended up removing it from the sandwich and not even eating. Definitely would opt for Starbucks or even Jack in the Box breakfast over going here again! Super disappointing.

I often drive by Sandy street, so I was pretty excited to know that a new coffee place is opening (in place of the old KFC)! Walking in, you could see the beautiful and classy interior that are very well maintained. The workers are all very kind, approachable, and helpful! First impressions rely on the people you get, and this place definitely gives you a warming welcome! Within the counter area is a section where there's the usual sugar, creme, napkins area. There's a couple menus laid here for those who can't see the typical menu above the worker's head! Their menu offers the usual choices that coffee places offer, but also additional drinks that you usually wouldn't find or hear often. They offer many sizes for each drink, and the prices are affordable. I ordered the Breve (which I've been told is like a half and half) where you can pick whichever flavor you want. I got hazelnut and I'm pretty satisfied with my drink! They also put a piece of chocolate on top of your coffee cup (which I believe is the signature of their drinks), and who doesn't love a bite of chocolate? Overall, definitely a place I'll be visiting often where I love to seat near the windows and look outside while studying. I'm usually bothered by the music that usual coffee places play, but I don't put on my earbuds for this place to listen to the music. Beautiful wooden interior and exterior (aesthetics)? Check. Awesome customer service? Check. A variety of drinks in different sizes and good prices? Check. WiFi? Check. Good studying or meeting with friends place? Check. I definitely recommend this warm, cozy, small place for anyone to visit, and I'm coming back to try all their drinks on the menu! (They also have a punch card for those who visit often!)

The ladies here are so nice and give really great recommendations! Every time I have gone it has been great, and even the one time my order was messed up the workers here were the best about it! They fixed it super fast and were super apologetic even though they were training people so the mess up was understandable. The drinks are always delicious and the coffee bean on top is just an extra treat!

Did a great job today. I ordered through grub hub and grub hub never went to get my order after a few hours of waiting and then canceled my order. I called human bean and asked what was going on and the fixed everything for me and got my food delivered ASAP! With a hand written note in my delivery it was really nice

This place sucks. I get it used to be a KFC but could've put more effort into transforming the place to make it feel cozier. Overly corporate looking with really weird, unwelcoming, high barriers in the front to cover the espresso machines. Makes it feel very cold and weird. Coffee was also just whatever. Nothing that wowed me and the bean on the coffee actually creeped me out since probably someone touched it with their bare hands. The girls behind the high privacy counter seemed nice but also seemed behind and not in-sync with each other. Probably will never come back. Wish the area would've got a more legit, cute coffee place.

Shocked at the low rating. I come through the drive thru here often. They have good coffee, I like their mocha. The service is fast and smooth and leaves me with my quick burst of caffeine before I go to work. All the drive thru girls are very nice, friendly, cute college aged girls. What is not to like? I'll be back often!

BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! I am so sorry to write this review (it's actually my first Yelp review ever) but my husband encouraged me to warn folks who may have food sensitivities/allergies). I truly used to LOVE this Human Bean - and have visited at least once a week for the past several months (this is specifically regarding the Sandy location). Always friendly - but on SEVERAL occasions they got our order wrong at the drive-through and we didn't realize till we drove away (since the lids are on with those lovely beans on them. For example - I ordered a hot cider for my child - we got a hot coffee. Disappointed, but not the end of the world. Ordered a hot cocoa - got a latte. Oh well, I guess. Well - today, I ordered an Americano. Arrived nice and hot with a big "A" on the lid to differentiate from the latte my husband ordered. However, after driving away and several sips - I felt like something was off. Got home, popped off the lid and see its a latte. No big deal - EXCEPT I CAN NOT HAVE ANY DAIRY! NONE! So, now I will suffer through the night with severe cramps and pain. So - buyer beware AND get your SH*T together Human Bean. You have an obligation as a food service provider to watch out for things like that. G-d only knows what's in your gluten-free items. You've finally lost my business.

I live close by but some days I just need delivery - tried it twice already and it's come on time, piping hot! I will be a repeat customer at least through the winter.

Thus clean fresh cheerful coffee house replaced an old KFC. The best part is the drive thru service and the memorable delicious candy covered coffee bean that comes on top of every drink. Coffee is delicious and they nicely have a staff on busy days who stands in the line to take your order and get it all ready for you at the window. Super cheerful and kind staff no grouchy snobby pusses here. Go on over grab your coffee you will be so happy.

Really enjoy having the Human Bean in the neighborhood (wayyy better than that dilapidated KFC). For a Starbucks-only gal, I'm impressed with the quality of their coffee, not to mention their service and early hours. I've only frequented the drive-through, but I'd recommend it.

What a great new addition to the neighborhood. Fun warm drinks when it's cold...Fun smoothies when it's hot! And a HUGE sitting area on top of a drive thru?!?! Exactly what we've been waiting for!!!
