Cute lil English style pub, was here with an old college friend i hadn't seen in a few years so we had a lot of catching up to do. Very friendly and patient servers as we took ages to order, everything we had was hearty and typical pub food, nothing out of the ordinary, but comfort food nonetheless. The beers were pretty good, and they even gave us a free flight.

I had a super fun time thanks to the live music! Everything else was decent, nothing to complain about. Just a regular old restaurant pub that's nice to eat at when in North Boulder.

Fun spot, but thought the food was just okay. French onion soup was good, but the tousle burger was lacking, and the sausage on the bangers and mash was eh.

Came a few weeks ago and drinks were amazing! The food was alright! The only reason it’s a 3 star review instead of 4 was when we were leaving the restaurant and we seen a bald guy in a chefs coat…assuming he worked there in a red car smoking something out of aluminum foil and it made me pretty uncomfortable…it was very concerning :/ sad to see in Boulder

I had been excited to try this place for sometime now and I’m glad I did but I do not think I will be returning. I felt like everything left something to be desired… menu, food, service, etc… Not bad by any means just not great and more so just fine! Tenders were extra crispy but the French onion soup was on the sweet end. I would check it out for yourself!

My friend took me to a birthday dinner here. The fish and chips were delicious. The appetizer of chicken tenders was superior, and the honey mustard and BBQ sauce was incredible. I enjoyed the Scottish Haven ale, and would definitely come back here! Also, the servers were excellent!

Stopped by on Dec 20th and had a fantastic time. On the backside of the wind storm the Hungry Toad was a welcome reprieve. They happily accommodated a larger group without a reservation, and staff was great all night. The food and atmosphere only continues to improve! I was stealing chicken tenders from my kids as they were obscenely tasty and perfectly cooked. Fish and chips and Reuben also excellent, and some mighty fine ales (including cask beer) on tap.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Very “pub”. The waiter was absent and never once refilled drinks. The food was burnt and bland. The house burger was burnt but inside was pink so the cook doesn’t understand temps. The fish and chips were also burnt and the oil tasted old. I had the toad in a hole and the “Yorkshire Pudding” was also burnt. The hash-browns were literally tater tots that had been smashed up and served lol I mean really? The French onion soup broth, delicious. Once you got past the burnt bread and cheese on top. I didn’t realize they cooked via surface of the sun. The fries were old. I mean black spotted, sitting out for a while, old potatoes. I ate a bite of each item on my plate but nothing more. It was inedible. I told them I didn’t like it and they just apologized. While not required, comping it since it wasn’t eaten, would’ve been nice to at least offer. They authentically suck. I added a photo of the smashed tater tots because honestly, it cracked me up lol. Spending $118 on 4 people, and not being able to eat your meal, is wild. Go there to drink and hang out. Not for the food.

Service is always over the top! Great selection of British beers. Wish they would bring fish/shrimp fajitas back and fish tacos. They were killer. Having only fish and chips as option is pretty limiting! Also really miss the sweet potato fries. The tots they serve now remind me of the freezer burned version served to us as kids.

The hungry toad adds a fun option to the Boulder area restaurant scene. We come here occasionally (not regulars) and we always feel well taken care of. The wait staff is kind and attentive, and the food is good. We really like the Yorkshire Pudding appetizer with the homemade jam. Beer selection is good and we love the decor.

Stopped by after a mountain hike with our three dogs. The place was very dog friendly and let us hangout on their patio. It has a perfect view of the mountains. The waitress was really nice even though our table got a little chaotic with the dogs. She was very professional, patient and came by frequently. We ordered a Caesar salad to share. The portion was great and they split it in two plates. The salad was fresh, the croutons were crispy, and the dressing was tangy. The burger was the absolute best thing we ordered. It was delicious. They ask you at what temperature you'd like it cooked. The meat was super juicy. The bacon was thick and delicious. Then again can you really mess up bacon? Had a mimosa carafe and fries to go along with the meal. Delicious too. If you're in the area and want a burger, visit this casual relaxed place. It will not disappoint.

Well, The fish and chips here are great. I wish I ordered that because the portobello mushroom burger was really sad - skimpy, oddly greasy and overall disappointing. Plus expensive.... Come on guys. AND, they no longer serve Harp! How can a British pub not have Harp?

It's a nice enough place. My son and I went there after going to a local dog park. Where are some wings and a Reuben funny thing they actually served the wings to the table behind us who promptly ate those wings and then got up left and it wasn't really for about another 10 minutes that we thought Maybe those were our wings that went to those assholes that ate them and left so the wings are pretty good, and the Reuben was really good and every time I eat one of these pub places I forget that chips means fries so it's a good little neighborhood place. I think you'll like it.

Great pub food and service in a nice inviting atmosphere. Plus the Broncos were on in a winning effort.

Service wasn't great. The bartender was gone the entire time so it made it hard to order drinks and food. Seemed like she cared about the regulars but ignored me. I'm new here and looking for a regular place to go...I sat with no water or anything to drink for a very long time multiple times. I don't need anyone to be overly nice and cater to me I'd just like to be able to order a beer and food with convenience which is why I sat at the bar. After waiting an hour and a half I asked someone where my food is for them to tell me I didn't order food. Also a side note. It's a very bad design to have your severs opening a door with their foot every time they take food out to the patio.

This a neighborhood gem. The food is consistently delicious and the service is always great!

Cozy ambiance, hearty food and good beer. Recommend the shepherds pie. Service is also friendly and attentive.

Get the Shepard's pie - it's not only a very yummy dish, but it's a huge portion and will continue to delight as leftovers.

This is a nice British themed restaurant/pub. The service was great. The food, especially the Reuben, was very good.

The food, atmosphere and service are delightful--the Reuben is perfection, the British Wedge is innovative and the Housemade Chicken Tenders make a great comfort food choice ... and their weekend brunch is full of homey decadent options. Grateful to have this gem in our neighborhood but worth the trip if you live anywhere else!

What a gem in Boulder! This pub is an institution according to locals, and now we definitely see why! First off, the ambience is wonderful. This place is a perfect replica of a genuine Pub in the UK. I loved all the little decor "touches" that made it feel even more so. There is a bar area but also plenty of seating inside. The food was incredible! I ordered the shepherds pie and was so glad I did. Flavorful, hot, and a HUGE serving at that. It is definitely enough to feed two. Even the veggies were to die for - spinach was not overly cooked, just lightly wilted, and the sweet potato was perfect and so flavorful! My husband got a burger and it was wonderfully cooked, slightly smoky, and a great portion size. Service was average, but food came out fast!! We will definitely be stopping here every time we visit!

We went for Sunday brunch. The food was delicious. The service was excellent. We will be back. The room was quiet enough that we could actually have a conversation.

Came in one afternoon during our three week trip through Colorado with our dog. There's a side patio area and they were very welcoming. They were in the middle of a shift change but we were promptly seated and our dog was brought a menu and a bowl of water. The beers were cold, the bartender made great recommendations and when our waitress came on she was attentive and friendly! They had the best Reuben! Would definitely come back if we were back in the area!

I had the Ruben sandwich, which I am always afraid to order, (yes, even at an Irish pub) but the menu said the corned beef was cured in house, so, I took the chance. Tender, not fatty, and as juicy as any corned beef could be. Probably one of the better Rubens I have ever had. Our server, Cori-Ann, was friendly and polite. Her attitude implied she actually likes her job. The one downside was the burger, my husband ordered as medium, turned out to be well over cooked. With as many signs and other decor, on the walls and shelves, they seem to do a good job of keeping up on the cleaning.

$23 for fish and chips that weren't even good, nor a fever portion of food should be a crime. They put a liner on the plate too which makes it difficult to eat with malt vinegar so what's the point? I guess if you want to come pay a lot for a little bit of Brit touristy stuff, have at it.

Bad service and unkind staff. Can only get the cod sandwich for ONE hour (2:00-3:00pm) on Saturday and Sunday. We were 10 minutes after 3:00 pm and couldn't even get it for a regular menu price. Pretty ridiculous. The staff were rude. Won't be coming back.

This place is the best. Only authentic and delicious pint of Guinness you can find in Boulder. Food is amazing, waiters are friendly, great beer selection, and you feel like you're in a real English Pub. Gotta come check this place out for trivia night too. Full package pub!

This place is amazing! The food was absolutely delicious and approved by my British husband. The service was wonderful and VERY dog friendly, they even had a puppy menu. The patio was wonderful and comfortable. We will definitely be back!

We Love The Toad! They have an amazing Ruben & the Sheppard's Pie is one of my favorite. One MASSIVE recommendation though which is very concerning. You can't call your "Full English Breakfast" by that name if you don't have Black & White...or at least just Black Pudding. So that's just a tidbit. Either change that name or make it proper. The Toad is so wonderful, don't cut yourselves short by not including a corner stone of the English Breakfast.

Went to the Hungry Toad for lunch after a long hike. We were able to sit on the outdoor patio, ordered a burger for lunch which was delicious. I also ordered a house salad on the side. my friend ordered the fish and chips which she enjoyed. Service was friendly, quick, and he regularly checked on us to refill drinks and make sure we were okay.

I've visited this place over the years, but the most recent trip, I doubt we'll be back. As a British-themed pub, you'd think the one thing on a permanent menu that they should get right is fish and chips! Not difficult! It was barely edible. The cod fish was mushy, and undercooked, the batter coating was overcooked and greasy. Incredibly disappointing. The waitperson was rather flippant. My partner had the steak sandwich, and the bread was grilled to oblivion. The only redeeming part of the meal was the French fries. Disappointing, won't return.

My dear friend was highly recommending this place as it is close to her apartment. I was in town on business, so I figured I'd have a meal here with her before returning home. The Hungry Toad is a traditional-style British pub that is easy to miss. Our server was Margot, and she was a clear example of 5-star service. I had in mind to try one of their imported beers from England. They ran out mid-pour so she gave me what was in the glass. It was about a third. She only billed me when she gave me a full glass. I decided to keep it simple with two items from their happy hour menu. The French onion soup was not as salty as other variants I've had. The poutine was excellent. Can't complain. My friend was quite pushy about their mud pie. Turns out, it didn't disappoint! Chocolatey crust with what I take to be ice cream as the filling. It was a rich dessert, so bring some gum or take another half glass of water after. Thanks for a great dinner and end to a spontaneous business trip!

Genuine Pub, excellent cocktails, personable staff, great music, and the pub food hits the spot!

We had Piper serve us and she was delightful. She never forgot about us even though we were the only ones on the patio. My husband got avocado toast with an egg on top and he enjoyed it. I got a house salad with chicken and it was a little dry but I asked for extra salad dressing and that did the trick. Drinks pictured are the Bloody Mary which my husband said was the best he's had in a while, and a chai mocktail which was good but tasted strongly of cherries which isn't my favorite (I suspect almond extract ;). We were very happy with our experience and loved the shady patio.

The Toad never disappoints, consistently good pub food, a perfect draw of suds served by friendly Staff every time. Skip Pearl St & head north for a pint, you won't be sorry.

Shockingly bad. This was not a bad situation they just suck. Top to bottom bad experience. They weren't overly busy just didn't want to serve us. We ordered food that took so long we ended up leaving and paying the bill before the food arrived. We waited so long it was ridiculous. Bartender/server didn't care at all. Just sad

Best fish and chips in Boulder, I have tried many other places and none can top The Toad!

Been to The Toad many times over many years. I'm somewhat surprised at the negative reviews. I have found the service and food to be outstanding from when Terry owned it until now. My wife and I came for lunch after an appointment nearby. I had a black and tan which was perfectly done. She had a champagne cocktail which she said was very good. We split the Reuben which was very good. Corned beef was excellent. Yes by the end the toast was a little soggy but the flavor and ratio of all the ingredients was spot on and the cheese was perfectly melted. Fries were hot crisp and well done. We will continue to come back. Yes there are a few items that are missed especially The Green Goblin burger but that certainly would not keep me away!

As an Englishman living in Boulder, I'm always looking for a full English breakfast, as when it's done well, it's one of my favorite things to eat. I can honestly say this is the worst, least authentic English breakfast I've ever had. American bacon (English bacon is different), American sausage (English sausages are different), questionable baked beans with a strange texture (definitely not Heinz). The owners of this restaurant clearly have no idea what an English breakfast should be, so why even bother offering it? Restaurants like this are the reason so many Americans think English food is bad.

Stumbled in for the World Cup game... 2 beers deep, needed nachos, they were delivered. Every bite was everything we could've dreamed for. How did they do it? We will never know but we appreciate them and everything they do.. Do you like guacamole? These are for you. Do you like black beans and cheese? Again, these are for you. Our server Bee was very sweet :) Ordered the "Red Eye" medium temp, burger was kinda charred on the outside and honestly lacked flavor. I asked if there would be lettuce tomato onion, I was told yes and so I requested light onions... there was not - nor was there any of the LTO. Just the burger patty, bacon, egg, and cheese. Fries were fine and so were the wings. It could have just been my experience, I doubt the burger is normally like that. Oh yes, AND I had the happy hour wedge salad, I really enjoyed that part actually!!! The guy with the man bun who was working the front was also very kind. First time in Boulder, I won't be back to this place. You should atleast check it out though, nice vibes and the service was cool!

Let me start by saying I always want to like the place, but always leave disappointed by the food. The ambiance is plenty pub like and enjoyable although they probably could turn the bright lighting down some to be more cozy. I have always thought the service and wait staff were good enough, no issues there for me If you are a beer drinker they have a good selection. Even the new menu is laid out well for a pub. It's just that the food is best described as bland and underwhelming for great or even good pub food. The fries taste like they are out of a frozen bag and not in a good way. The fish part of the fish and chips is decent but not great. The burgers are just really average. I give it 3 stars for the ambience mostly. The food is not revolting or anything just severely underwhelming. It could be such a good restaurant since the vibe is already cool, honestly it wouldn't take much. Just a better chef and it'd be great. It feels like lazy cooking with not great attention to the details that really bring pub food to life. I try it again every so often to see if it's gotten better, but it feels like it's gotten worse.

GOD SAVE THE TOAD!! So happy with all the new improvements. We have been coming to the Toad for years. BEST pub In CO! The Toad has always felt so welcoming. The new menu is incredible, such a big improvement while still very approachable. What a little gem in Boulder. Cheers. Justin

I picked up the pictured $10 french onion soup. The container was half full and it was cold. The staff were extremely rude.

Pricey for two, and service not up to par. Waitress never refilled our waters, flies buzzed around food constantly, and our waitress seemed upset that we came in before her break during happy hour. Overheard her talking about party plans with another coworker, and was rushed through service without being asked about 2nd rounds, refills, or dessert. Awkward having to tip for poor service using the mobile POS in front of her face instead of a check book, won't return.

It's an English pub type restaurant so of course I ordered a beer and fish and chips. We split a salad to start but, with only tiny plates it was difficult to serve much at a time. The salad itself was very good but I didn't love the dressing. My husband had the burger and chips. He said it was cooked perfectly. The server was polite and everything came out promptly. The ambiance was just right.

Wildly inconsistent. Maceo ordered the fish and chips, while I ordered the beer battered chicken sandwich. The fish was good. The chips were fries, not chips, but they, too, were good. And a generous portion of both. The chicken sandwich was terrible. The roll was exceedingly dry, dense, and tough. Very unpleasant to eat. I mentioned this to the server, but she only shrugged and said, "I guess I can take a couple of dollars off." I replied that I wasn't trying to get a discount, I was trying to convey that the roll wasn't edible. She shrugged again, and that was it. (And paying $16 for a bad sandwich is just as annoying as paying $18 for a bad sandwich.) She did absolutely nothing to solve the problem, nor did she discount the bill. We feel extremely stupid and completely ripped off for paying $18 for that terrible sandwich. In addition to the horrible roll, the chicken was tiny and dry, the tomato scant and underripe, and the avocado nearly absent. So even if the roll had been decent, the sandwich still would have been sadly paltry. Don't know how management, in good conscience, could serve that sandwich to a customer. Shame on them. We were hoping that this might be a new regular restaurant for us. But given the terrible sandwich and the absence of the slightest concern by staff, we will return only when Maceo has a specific taste for fish and chips (fries). The interior is cute in an art-directed pub sort of way. We liked the interior vestibule- every pub we've ever visited in the U.K. has such a vestibule, so it is a nice touch. The beer was nearly room temperature. We understand that in Europe beer is served much warmer than in the U.S., which is fine, but here in the States we like colder beer. Just a thought.

One of the few places in Boulder to get a proper pint. Love the beer selection with a balanced mix of British classics (Guinness, Fullers, Old Speckled Hen, etc.) but also American ales/lagers. Solid food and they're now doing brunch. Ultimately, I hope to see more people supporting them as they're one of the few pubs left after Connors. Five stars immediately awarded if they ever put couches (or a community table) by the entrance/bar. It would do sooooo much for the community feel of the place!

Not as good under new owners. Higher prices, less choices and lower quality. I went there with a friend a couple of times and was disappointed.

Great atmosphere & great food! In reading reviews, I see people complaining about the Hungry Toad's prices going up. As I food shop weekly, I've been acutely aware of my food bill increasing & restaurants are struggling with the same problem. According to the USDA: In 2020, food-at-home prices increased 3.5 percent and food-away-from-home prices 3.4 percent. The largest price increases were for meat categories: beef and veal prices increased by 9.6 percent, pork prices by 6.3 percent, and poultry prices by 5.6 percent. In 2021, food-at-home prices increased 3.5 percent and food-away-from-home prices increased 4.5 percent. The beef and veal category had the largest relative price increase (9.3 percent). In 2022, food prices increased by 9.9 percent. Food-at-home prices increased by 11.4 percent, while food-away-from-home prices increased by 7.7 percent. Following an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), egg prices had the largest price increase (32.2 percent) between 2021 and 2022 of any category tracked by USDA.

I'm so disappointed by the new Toad. The fish and chips is now one enormous piece of greasy fried fish, and the whole point of fish and chips is to have smaller pieces you can dip into the tartar sauce. So, having been a long-time customer, I tried again and ordered a burger. I always loved the burgers - they were fresh and juicy. This tasted like a frozen patty - blech. My husband said that one side of his reuben (another old favorite standard) was soggy. I'm so sad about this, as it's been our favorite neighborhood hang for decades! I tried writing them privately about the fish and chips but no acknowledgment. I also really liked the old decor, but that's not the issue. It's the extremely disappointing food.

The Toad is a warm and cozy family friendly gem in central Boulder. The recent renovation and new menu additions are excellent! Love the "Ploughman's Platter", fish 'n chips and the chicken tikka masala! Looking forward to watching lots of Men's World Cup soccer in this authentic British pub (great new signs, btw)! Easy, free parking is always a bonus in Boulder.

Service was great!!!! Food- if you want typical British food. This is it. Bland- no flavor. Fish and chips were sub par. Ambiance was wonderful and so was the beer.
