Where to find classic restaurants and bars in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"You be might headed to the Hush Puppy, but it’s probably catfish on your mind at this 7,700-square-foot dinner-only institution in business since 1975. Despite the limited hours, the Hush Puppy draws a busy repeat clientele, whether served inside the rustic Western interior or using the handy drive-thru. House specialties include frog legs, seafood gumbo with turkey sausage, snow crab, char-broiled chicken, and themed all-you-can-eat specials. Alligator po-boys are available for the adventurous and the restaurant warns you could possibly be “blessed with a pearl in the fried oysters. This will bring you good luck, but be careful not to break a tooth.”" - Janna Karel

Where to find Creole food in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"Long established in Las Vegas, The Hush Puppy has daily all-you-can-eat specials, with shrimp on Tuesdays, barbecue ribs on Wednesday, the seafood platter on Thursday, and catfish and shrimp on every other day. If that isn’t enough of an incentive to try the food here, come for house specialties such as the hush puppies and the fried green tomatoes, served with a house remoulade sauce. Also on Nellis Boulevard. Both have a drive-thru and takeout." - Susan Stapleton

Vintage restaurants still open for takeout and delivery in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"Both Hush Puppy restaurants are making good use of their drive-thru windows and also offering takeout. Serving catfish, po’boys, and namesake hush-puppies since 1975, customers can take advantage of family packs and meal deals, plus order oysters, alligator tails and classic Southern sides. Where to find Southern food restaurants in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"In the ever-changing Las Vegas culinary world, it takes a lot to stay in business for multiple decades. Hush Puppy has been around since 1975 and is owned and operated by a family from Texarkana, Arkansas. The two locations serve alligator tail, fried frog legs, blackened tilapia, and of course, hush puppies." - Krista Diamond

Having been born and raised in Western North Carolina growing up eating southern food. I can say this is the real deal fantastic food, good service, nice and clean dining facilities. I’ll be back.

Google
Really awesome people run this place and work here. The service is excellent and the southern food is delicious too. It's mostly fried foods on the menu with lots of seafood choices. They do offer a decent steak and burger. Their menu has a good variety of sides to choose from and get a good side salad with your meal. The sweet potato pie was served warm and was amazing.

Google
This establishment has sadly taken a nosedive under new ownership. Prices have soared, while food quality has nose-dived alarmingly. Not surprisingly, the parking lot was nearly empty when I visited. The tepid service, microwaved tasting fries, and overcooked, bland catfish all speak volumes. Once a bustling venue, it now struggles to attract customers. This current state is truly disheartening. I had to post at least one star, otherwise I would not have given an stars.

I’m still in the restaurant as I write this. Hadn’t been in years and well it wasn’t worth the return visit. I had to go ask for my check, we never were spoken to once we ordered and for reference we were the only ones in the restaurant. I had to tell the server when she asked if we liked our food and I had to be honest that no not really lol. Everything was bland at best. Not to mention half of the menu items they didn’t even have available. So long story long find somewhere, anywhere else before you waste the better part of $70.

I’ve visited this location and the former location on Nellis (that was the better location in my opinion), but ownership has changed and you can definitely tell by the quality of the food. We ordered the catfish dinner and I had the catfish and shrimp creole dinner. The fried fish was bland at best. It lacked seasoning and flavor. My dish was ok but nothing to brag about. The portion size of my dish allowed me to have leftovers. It did come with a salad and hush puppies. Honestly, the hush puppies were the best part of the meal. The service was also kind of slow which was odd being that when we came there were only two tables seated and we were one of the two.

We used to come here all the time. Place would be packed with patrons. It's definitely not like that these days..well at least the day I went. The place was completely empty only 3 parties were dining in at the time totalling up to 7 people. Service was great we were seated right away because there was no wait lol. The food has gone downhill all except the fish & crab & hush puppies. Everything else not worth the price. They have lost their flavor. The food had no seasoning very little or none. And the prices have gone up a lot..definitely need Gordon Ramsey to come in and turn that thing around. That was a neighborhood stable in vegas and for that place to be dead the way it was on a Sunday speaks volumes. There was a time you couldn't find a parking spot. I think a major upgrade to the menu new cooks or some because I'm telling you I was really disappointed in the food. Service was great..but the food has gone downhill. Crazy thing is I saw a commercial advertising to come visit & it brought back memories so wanted to give it a try. Well I will say the advertising work. But...will I return? Probably not if i do its to maybe to get some crab. Call Gordon he can get yall back on the map.

Google
Was excited to get there, but before we even ordered, the waiter told us there were no wings ,Mac cheese, and one other items at 11am.Shrimp was frozen, green like it came out the can Hush Puppy taste like just cornbread.Catfish has no taste. For 60.00, it's not worth it for lunch, and the sides are way too expensive. 5.00 smh

Google
0nly 1 server plus host had to wait for drinks, place order, refill drinks and checks. Staff was friendly but not on top of service. We arrived same time as 2 other parties and all 3 groups experienced same issues. Had jambalaya and catfish both were great. Have been eating here over 30 and can tell difference with new owners. No salad bar it was missed as I loved coleslaw. It is still available as a side.

Yelp
I have been coming here since they first opened and have never been let down. From the quality of the food, to the taste, to the originality The Hush Puppy has maintained an excellent standard which they have lived by for 50 years. The food is excellent. Unparalleled Fried Cat Fish and Louisiana Seafood Gumbo to die for. The service is always fantastic and the servers and waitstaff are always kind, friendly and helpful. If there was anything negative to say about The Hush Puppy it would be they really need an interior design makeover. But that being said it in no way affects the high quality of their food. One last thing I would very much like them to bring back their all you can eat menu.

Yelp
It's a nice clean place. I believe it's under new ownership. This is the 2nd time I have been and the service is good but the food and prices are terrible. The hush puppies are really bad. They don't taste like hush puppies should. I ordered my French Fries to come out first because they generally do. They came out lukewarm. The salad was pretty awful no taste and was soggy. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken strips. 5 small pieces for $22 it was definitely not that good for the Money. My friend had the catfish. The flavors and taste were off. Needless to say I will not be going back there again. People even got up and left. Their Sweet potato pie was bland.

Yelp
Sunday dinner.? I started coming to the restaurant in 1978. This was the edge of the city but we came in droves for those meals. The business has changed but I come back every few months because it had been the only place I could get catfish. Please know the restaurant is the original. The restroom, dining area, menu but not the chefs. I'm bummed. The fish isn't the same catfish. I was just here 6 months ago. The hot sauce is different. The waitress wouldn't bring the manager out. I informed her I thought we bartered the incorrect item if it was possible to get the other catfish. Farm or fresh water. Was it possible to get the version I don't order. Adam finally came from the back to the front where I was standing with He asked if this was my plate. I wasn't sure if he was the Manager because he walked the around the restaurant with the same pair of gloves. Touching everything. He informed me he was the Manager. This fish was the only catfish version the alternative was Swae. What I had eaten here for the 46 years before now was Swae. Adam was hostile, aggressive, defensive because I knew there was a difference in the fish, although I acknowledged I may have made a mistake. Adam seemed uncomfortable. He said the answer was to take the order off the ticket however, all my family had a complaint about the fish. I asked him to not proceed in this manner, but he insisted. I proceeded to my seat while beginning to write my review. Maybe he noticed and shortly requested my party leave. As my family and I left out, Adam the owner and Manager did mention he didn't give a bleep about a review and asked if I realize how many people like me he sees each day. I will not return and now where shall I get real catfish if not a home. So disappointing. I will move on. I'm happy to have had many, many enjoyable, honest experiences in this place. My parents, youth choir, children, husband and family since 1978. Good bye.

Yelp
I came to Hush puppy to thinking it was as the same as years ago but to avail, this was the worst that I have ever had!!! It started with this waitress who had the nasty attitude when I ask to clean the table. She rolled her eyes and told me I see you!!! I reacted and told her again that the table needed to be cleaned. I waited at least 10 minutes before the other waitress came and cleaned the table. Busy, not that many people were in here at the time.. I order fried green tomatoes, nasty nasty and I have a picture to show!!! The catfish was so nasty and fried so hard! This is not the Hush puppy that I know on visit to Las Vegas. I had to ask for water as hot as it is! We the water was the best thing that I received tonight. What happened to the old Hush Puppy because this is not it!!! Will not be back and couldn't wait to text my husband that Hush Puppy is gone to the dogs !!!!! Oh, and that put me at a table that was rocking and not Sturdy . Too much!!!

Yelp
So much better than the last time I ordered. Perfectly crispie delicious catfish. The fried green tomatoes are to die for. The hushpuppies were warm and melted in my mouth, the only thing missing was the honey butter which I forgot to ask for. I ordered for pick up but the service over the phone was easy. The resteraunt appeared empty at 3pm but the hoast was very nice. I miss the large alligator in the front but it gave the waiting area more space. New management well done from the last time I ordered about a year ago.

Yelp
Walking in we were a bit skeptical at how empty it was during dinner time. The sweet tea was actually pretty good and the gumbo was decent. As far as everything else? No thank you. The hush puppies look like mini corn dogs and have like a cream of wheat texture to them inside. Everything else I'm pretty sure was fried in old grease because my son didn't even want his nuggets. We would've left sooner if we didn't have to wait on the ONE person waiting all the tables and hosting.

Yelp
I've been here twice and the consistency in the service and food quality is comforting-- the iconic 'hush puppies' are more like corn fritters to me, but they are so delicious that I don't care what they're called, I want them in my mouth!! The corn flavor is almost sweet, the texture snappy with a good outer crunch and inner softness, plus they give you plenty of fresh butter to slather them with. Despite being blackened, I do feel the catfish could be seasoned better, because I could barely taste the flavors of the seasoning rub. In this picture I had french fries, but as a side dish I really recommend the Red Beans and Rice instead, the flavor is great on those and you can get fries anywhere. Loses 1 star because they only sell bottled water (no free water, which feels a bit stingy), but apart from that this is an excellent old-fashioned dining experience. The decor is nostalgic without being tacky, and I'm happy this place has re-opened after shutting down during COVID. The new owners seem to be doing the best they can with what they have. They even give you nice containers for your leftovers, because the portions are way too huge for 1 person to finish all at once. Yes, the price is high, but considering I got multiple meals out of each visit I think it's fair. Come hungry, leave happy!

Yelp
Y'all, this place is dynamite. The hush puppies were so pillowy and crispy and that butter was something else. I gotta figure how to replicate that. The collards were cooked perfectly, the bleu cheese dressing on the salad was so fresh and flavorful, and that jambalaya had a nice Cajun kick to it. I've had good food in the south and this was an awesome contender. Even my southern beau approved.

Yelp
I usually don't like to give low ratings but besides the employees, this place was just alright. It's a cute place, but it kinda feels like when you drive through a small town in the middle of nowhere lol There was no diaper changing station so I had to figure it out haha we got a few items to try and honestly the catfish, iced tea, and hush puppies were great and everything else as just meh. Waiter seemed very sweet and apologetic for all the changes but honestly this was our first visit so it was a little unusual.. hope you guys enjoy it more than we did.

Gwen S.

Yelp
I am a huge fan for catfish. The fish wasn't bad but my family didn't enjoy their food, oysters, chicken fettuccine, they never did receive their red beans (canned) and rice. It was bad night for the restaurant. While we were there one of the cooks went home sick, that left one cook and one waitress who was in and out of the kitchen and the host had to help serve food. We weren't told about the special if you order catfish platter or something you get some free catfish. Tip is already added to your bill, we told the guy to take it off because we will pay the tip in cash which we did. Why, was the tip on the bill anyhow. That was end of March as of yesterday we are still trying to get this off our credit card card. Tip was $37.

Yelp
First time at this place Let''s start by saying they now open for lunch! Which is great The service was good, a young man named Youne from Morocco was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, had the catfish/shrimp combo also had cup of gumbo and red beans and rice . Just a touch of salt would make it really delicious Since the early opening is a new thing not many people know about it yet so it was pretty quiet in there on a Saturday at noon There was 5 tables occupied. All in all I had a good experience and a good time there Will come back

Yelp
The place is enormous, with various rooms and walk ways, the lay out is very weird and the decor gives you the feeling that it hasn't changed since 1986. The service was slow, to the point of being glacial, I don't think this is from lack of care but more from lack of staffing. The waitress was very nice though. No complimentary water, only bottled water for a charge is available... this is laughable and a true sign of a a struggling business. Food was very average, nothing was terrible, nothing was really good. Boring ambience which matches with the boring food.

Yelp
Super annoying when you walk into an empty building well like 6 people already sitting down and eating.. but get completely ignored! 2 severs walked past looked me in the eye and continued to go about their business. No hello no just a minute just blatantly ignoring me. Thats the most unprofessional thing ever to me. Me and my daughter stood there for at least 10 mins.... Lets do better guys this place isnt what it used to be so come on

Yelp
I'm not used to providing such low scoring reviews, but in this instance, I have to say that I was thoroughly disappointed. We were in Vegas for a family reunion, and the elders had all said this was the place to go as they had all been before. Whelp, clearly they hadn't been in a few years or something because NONE of the good things they were used to were delivered. - no, all you can eat catfish and shrimp! - the serving staff was ill prepared for a group this size total of 15 people - the food was coming out haphazardly...some were getting their salads while others were already on their entrée. - I've never seen a restaurant hand out room temp water bottles I now understand that there has been a change of ownership and I'm sure COVID didn't help, but, that said, call in someone to help reset the baseline and restore the confidence in the community that the ownership change wasn't a mistake. The decor needs updating as well as other areas of renovation. I really hope they make change to all of the issues that are glaringly obvious and get back to being a staple

Yelp
I took my 3 kids here to show them my favorite restaurant ever!! I haven't been in about 7 years... I have NEVER been so let down in any place ever.. it was not busy.. 20 min to get table 30 min to get even a drink order by the same guy who sat us 30 min to get food no price given for kids menu price has nearly doubled since I've been there no silverware no free hush puppys no refills no one to check on us no bill I ended up guessing and leaving cash on the table 2 hours after we got there literally every other customer in the restaurant shared my experience. so sad.

Yelp
Been dining at Hush Puppy since I was a kid, over 30 years. A majority of that was at the old Nellis location. Haven't been to the Charleston location in several months. Seems there are new owners and the prices have nearly doubled it seems. Went through the drive thru. The parking lot only had 3 cars when i pulled in. Its 6pm on a Saturday. I assume this is due to no longer having the all you can eat catfish everyday, so business has tanked (I assume). 4 cars in front of me. Waited over 30 minutes to get to the window. $11.89 for a two piece snack pack. Fish is still decent so for the price I wont complain. Probably wont be visiting this place again anytime soon though.

Yelp
Worst food in Las Vegas I had fried catfish with very little catfish and cooked very well done and dry the fried shrimp were an unusual color frozen and deep fried French fries were limp and inedible hush puppies came late seemed with another frozen and deep fried item and the salad was mediocre at best should have known when I got out of my car there was a strong sewer smell
google avatar

Matt Q.

Yelp
Always wanted to try because we love seafood and Cajun. PLEASE. Go ANYWHERE else but here. One of the worst meals I've ever had. Ordered the "fish and chips" and received three deep fried rectangles that were the exact size and shape. No fish, just breading. It's like they went to the frozen fish section at Albertson's and stuck it in the deep fryer. So so bad. The cat fish was almost worst. Also, how are you called , "The Hush Puppy" and your hush puppies are terrible? I mean seriously. The service was fine. Food was atrocious. There was a reason only one two other people were at the restaurant when we walked in at 650pm on a Wednesday. Avoid at all costs.
google avatar

Marcus B.

Yelp
Been visiting here for 20 plus years and damn! As of late, the service gets worse every time! Instead of taking my order in the drive thru, the manager (with the beard) was talking crap about how stupid his (paying) clientele was and I heard every word of it through the speaker. I had to go inside just to make an order. Real unprofessional. Next time turn your microphone off if you're gonna be that miserable, dude! This place was once a local gem.. but, with the people working here now, it's a crappy place i'd have to advise to avoid. Quite unfortunate since they (used to) have the best catfish meals in town. I once held an extremely high value to this place probably mostly for sentimental reasons (RIP grandma!) and it's actually quite saddening how they've hit rock bottom! Tough to even to say, but I won't be returning any time soon.

Yelp
I have been here a few times and have waited to give a review because it's often a mix bag of what you are going to get. One thing that is always consistent is that the servers are always working hard and always very friendly. So last night we came here for dinner walking in there was no one at the host stand/behind the counter, not unusual as they were busy. What was unusual was when a server saw us they asked another I'm guessing server to take us who turned it down saying they didn't want anymore tables. Ok, I can understand that, if you are busy and don't want to get behind sometimes you don't want to deal with another table. So the lady took us back to her section and sat us. She was extremely sweet and caring the whole time constantly checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed, but you could tell she seemed a little stressed. We ordered our drinks and they all came out pretty fast except for my glass of wine. That took until about when our starter salads came out. We ordered our food, a pulled pork sandwich, jambalaya, gumbo and a kids meal. When the salads came they are basic run of the mill iceberg lettuce with tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots. Tasted pretty good, fresh ingredients. The food took a little long but again understandable. When it came out it looked really good but that's kinda where it ended. The jambalaya I had was extremely salty and the rice in it was crunchy and undercooked. The gumbo was very fishy, yes gumbo has fish in it, but the flavor was overpowering and not well balanced. The Mac and cheese side despite being in a cast iron serving dish was cold, the flavors were there but it was just cold. The pulled pork sandwich was dry and chewy and definitely needed the side of bbq sauce on it to be able to enjoy it. It was also very very greasy. The kids meal was a simple cheeseburger and fries so no issues there. The restaurant itself was mostly clean and it had some cute decor but they were really behind on clearing tables so there were a lot of tables that hadn't been cleared of plates. I am a little torn on if I would come back again. I have been here before and the food can be really good or can be subpar. I think it depends on the night. The servers are really attentive and sweet. We have had Iva multiple times and she has always been great and very good at what she does. I think this would be a place to come back to on a day that wasn't a holiday.

Yelp
Breaking my heart. No other words can describe it. I had been fighting the MEANEST Hush Puppy craving for about a week and finally gave in. Despite living in Southern Highlands, I just KNEW it was going to be worth the drive... I was so wrong. They appear to be under new management for the worst. No more AYCE catfish. No more salad bar. No more free lemons (like what? I have to pay for lemons with fish??? I didn't even know that was a thing!!!) Prices have gone up in a way that cannot be justified by inflation.
google avatar

Marcia G.

Yelp
We have frequented The Hush Puppy for a few years now whenever we are in Vegas. We loved their all you can eat option. That got taken away sadly. Then the salad bar disappeared. We called on another occasion to see if their menu changed again and no one answered the phone. We called several times. We decided not to go. On another occasion we drove up @7:15 pm and the parking lot was real empty, they told us that they close at 7pm on Mondays, but every where I checked it says 10 PM on Google and it was recently updated. Their website states 8 PM (Mon-Thursday) Wasted time and gas.... really disappointed. Really wanted some fish and shrimps.

Gd T.

Yelp
The food was great. The crab was cooked right.. the shrimp was yummy.. chicken fingers were the best ever.. Mac and cheese delicious. No complaints on food at all .. service could have been better but we will come back here without a doubt. Bathroom could use a upgrade I only washed my hands in there

Yelp
People are SO dramatic! This is not a 5 star restaurant but it's also not the worst food out there. Remember sizzler? This is like the old chain Sizzler level. It's a cute spot with an interesting layout. Servers are attentive and nice. The food is pretty bland and basic and not what the old location served. We didn't know ownership changed and were willing to give it a try. The hush puppies tasted like they are a frozen pack not homemade. And just like bar food appetizers you'll enjoy it even if it's not traditional. No one at our table liked the collard greens but the Mac n cheese was edible and the Broaster chicken was the standout favorite. Jambalaya was a huge portion and bland which some people will enjoy versus a super spicy recipe. For the price we won't be going back. Wish we could've visited the old location.

Yelp
We stopped here by accident going down Charleston. Remembered eating there a few years ago and wanted to try again. When we saw the menu we were a little disappointed that there wasn't the old " all you could eat option" for certain food at a higher price. BUT- the food was amazing! Huge baked potato with all the trimmings that was a hit.Fresh salad- outstanding catfish and seafood platter. Super nice waitress! Will go back again soon! Outstanding restaurant!!

Yelp
UPDATE We were surprised on a Sunday afternoon after church that almost nobody was in the place, it was nearly empty, all but for maybe one couple. A few years ago, you could barely get in the door at this time of day on a Sunday. This place is under new ownership and new management. The entire menu has changed. They no longer have the all you can eat fish, they don't have any crab or steak; at least, not for lunch, I didn't see any serious seafood offerings at all. This place has turned into a fried chicken establishment. Even then, they don't offer any combo of fish and chicken. We were very annoyed at the speaker directly above our table that was only playing one channel of stereo output. The interior looked kind of old and worn out, nothing like it was before. Our server was anxious and helpful and wanted to do anything and everything for us. Unfortunately, the food was just so-so. It doesn't say on the menu that most of the protein in your clam chowder will be bacon, but it is. Nice hush puppies were served in the beginning, but the honey butter that was served with it was rock hard. The fried catfish was just okay, no flavoring or seasoning at all, and pretty darn chewy, especially on the ends. The vegan salad was pretty good. We were given six shrimp with our shrimp cocktail, even though the menu said four. So, that was nice. Maybe that's because we were charged $16 instead of the $15 on the menu. Speaking of the menu, every page had a spelling error on it! That doesn't leave a very good impression. It was nice that the server poured us a pitcher of soda. He also gave us refills to go. The service was a lot better than the food. But even with good service, they seemed to make a lot of mistakes. We were served food that we didn't order, the two bowls of clam chowder were not the same. One was thin and had hardly any clams, the other was thick and had plenty of clams. After reordering one bowl, it was remedied. Half of our meal came very late because of errors. I'm sorry, this place has really tanked since a few years ago. Now I know why it was nearly empty when we arrived. The parking lot is now 10 times larger than it needs to be. Don't bother, other places are much better. We actually ended up feeling sorry for the server who worked there because he seemed to have to do everything.

Yelp
I should have listened to the lady who wrote her review 20 minutes after she left. As my husband and I sit here, we talk about our memories. So many B-Ball boys and girls have eaten here, so many teams every time we come to Las Vegas Hush Puppies and Blue Berry Hill restaurants are our must haves before we go home. Nothing ever changes we can always depend on excellent food and service at both restaurants. If U R a hush puppies fan PLEASE DONT ORDER THE CATFISH FILLETS THEY WERE AS THIN AS PAPER, TASTED HORRIBLE , and corn meal from the fillets flew all over my clothing, seating area and table. I was told there was new management (1 year). My husband suggests that they retain the former owner/ managers in order to make this restaurant great again. Our waitress (Rachael) did a great job!!' This is so very sad!!!!

Yelp
Unfortunately I have to agree with what most people are saying about this place. The owners just don't appear to care about the customers experience or the quality of food that is served. They received a rating of one star because the hostess was pleasant and the garden salad was good. Everything else was a complete fail. We were quite surprised to find that the food arrived cold and there was only one other table being served. The Mac n cheese ingredients appeared old. The red beans and rice and gumbo had little spice and flavor. Crab cakes and hush puppies appeared store bought and the quality was definitely lacking. There was no option of Louisiana hot sauce to attempt to add flavor. I feel really bad saying this, but it was a complete waste of hard earned money as well as time.

Yelp
If you're considering stopping here, do yourself a favor and keep driving. This place is not worth your time, money, or taste buds. Where do I even start? First off, soft drinks and iced tea are $4 for an 8oz glass, and there is no free water option. If you don't drink soda, you'll have to pay $3 for a 16oz bottle of "Pure Life" water. The service was excruciatingly slow and poor. There were no refills on drinks, and the staff didn't clear our salad plates until we stacked them ourselves. After 30 minutes of waiting for refills, we had to physically hand our plates to the server to get them cleared. We arrived right when they opened and were one of only two groups there, yet we still had to wait 45 minutes for our food. When the food finally arrived, it was of extremely low quality. The catfish was hard as plastic and had an overly fishy taste, clearly frozen and old. The "boiled shrimp" tasted like they had been defrosted from a frozen bag bought at Walmart. To top it off, we were constantly bombarded with flies. When the bill came, it was a shocking $207 for four adults and two kids, and that was before the tip. This place is horrifically overpriced for the disgustingly low-quality food served by incompetent staff. Save yourself the disappointment and avoid this place at all costs. Yuck!

Yelp
I hate to say this but this was disappointing in so many ways. First, although we did buy tea and drinks they did not provide basic water. They sold cheap bottled water for $3 and with kids and hot Vegas temperatures, sorry that not right. The catfish wasn't trimmed so you had the dark strip which made it strong tasting. All the sea food had distinct frozen attributes such as tough in texture and freezer taste. The corn meal batter was wonderful and the crab cakes were good. Other than that nothing justified the HIGH price of their meals. Service was very poor. They never cleaned the plates or refilled purchased drinks unless we called them over. This was a one time experience for our family.

Yelp
I'm here to report some sad news. This location has new owners & difference recipes. IDK where to start!!! 1st red flag: the parking lot had 6 cars!!!!! 2nd red flag: families were being seated anticipating good food, only to find out that the menu has changed drastically, and some things have been done away with, the salad bar & the A.Y.C.E catfish. They got up and left. A total of 9 people left without ordering because of the drastic menu change. (GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!!!) 3rd red flag: the some staff are in over there heads when it comes to service, overwhelmed. The ambience is low vibes, there were are 12 people actually in the entire restaurant, QUITE!! No laughing, No plate scrapping, No sounds of enjoying a good meal. Everyone, was disappointed. 4th red flag: THE FOOD.....is horrible!!! The fish is so thin, it's like eating FISH CRACKERS. The baked potato was probably a week old. (Pic) unseasoned coleslaw, hush puppies, FROZEN butter. To simply say, the food here is a MESS!!! Don't waste your time or money, you will be very disappointed.

Yelp
The description of this place reels you in but doesn't really describe what is offered. "Variety of hush puppies" consists of cornbread fritters with honey butter. They were okay but not a true hushpuppy & that was the only variety I saw. I've had southern seafood and this was not it. Even if the food was delicious, I wouldn't eat here again because of the fact that they won't give you a glass of water so you have to buy a $3 bottle! (And we're not talking about sparkling water or Fiji water, just plain Costco water bottle) My goodness, it's Las Vegas, it was 106° outside and they're charging you $3 for every bottle of water that you drink. I travel a lot across the US and this is literally the first restaurant I've ever been to that has charged you for water because they're not willing to give you a glass of water. Drinks were expensive for what they were and refills were slow. Service in general was slow. The food tasted like frozen seafood and it was expensive. Dinners came with 1 side and a very basic iceberg dinner salad. I'm astounded this place has stayed open so many years.

Yelp
My daughter and I had dinner on January 7th. Let's start with the food which was amazing! I had the crab cakes which were delicious and a baked potato which was scrumptious with all the fixings. My daughter had the smoked ribs that were so tender they practically fell off the bones. We shared hush puppies, yummo. The salads were fresh and large. The service was absolutely amazing.Adam was our attentive server, we didn't have to ask for anything, he checked on us often. Mustafa was great as well helping me since I walk with a walker and needed assistance. We had some issues with our credit card and the patience Adam had with us was off the charts! Mustafa brought us coffee while we waited for everything to work out. I recommend Hush Puppy restaurant to anyone who wants delicious food, great service and a comfortable atmosphere. We will be back!!

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant for years. The quality of the food has varied, but it has mostly been good. I have had family reunion dinners there. So, I would recommend it. Since the east side restaurant closed, I drive across town. They are not checking the to go orders for accuracy. If you don't get an item, THEY WILL NOT REFUND YOU. They offer no solutions to reimburse you. CHECK YOUR ORER BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

Yelp
I have eaten here over the years 35 many times... it has been cleaned up in the last few years and is the best I ever remember. Blackened catfish fillets and fried catfish fillets, and I particularly enjoy their collard greens. People say I sound like I come from New York, but I spent most of my youth in Florida and I know good collard greens. My recommendation is to skip breakfast. They open at 2 PM and you've eat enough for the whole day!

Yelp
Sad case of don't change nothing that didn't need fixing.‍They messed up something that's been iconic for decades

Yelp
It's been a while since i've left a bad review but this is necessary, the service was subpar at most. The waitress walked past us several times without greeting or letting us know for the time being she's be occupied. We do understand that it was her first day but it was not busy there was maybe two or 3 (if even) other tables. The beers came out with slimey and sticky residue on the bottom which caused our table and hands to be covered, more than once. We had put our order in and then 15 minutes later the "manager" (possibly) approaches us to tell us they are out of calamari and pasta salad, no biggy but a sooner notice would've been better. Our food comes out and we didn't receive any of our salads, or waters that we asked for several times. I think genuinely it might've just been a rough night but it was frustrating one after another issue was occurring.

Yelp
Horrible Customer Service!!!!!! Never ever AGAIN!!! PARTY of 10 and been here since 7:44 and food came out at 9:45! They close at 10 oh and 1 of us didn't even get our order! Asked for manager and asked for some type of compensation and was asked by the General Manager is not what you got was good? Like really!?

Yelp
Greetings! The service was excellent and the food- yummy! My catfish was so delicious with a light crisp coating and cooked perfectly. Couldn't eat the baked potato due to the large portions but will enjoy it tomorrow (heavily loaded). Finally, our server was very generous and "bought" us a large piece of pecan pie for my birthday. It was warm and not overly sweet that I could taste the pecans and not sugar. The restaurant is very clean looks updated. Thank you for a wonderful dinner and will be coming back again soon. Janice

Yelp
The food was not as good as I expected. Being a longtime Hish Puppy lover, they lacked flavor. As well as my fried fish and French fries. I hope you guys can make a comeback. Hush Puppies was one of my favorites. Ambiance was clean.

Yelp
Long story short this is not what it use to be. The original owner sold it and who ever bought it has turned it into something completely opposite. There is no more all you can eat no more build your own salads instead, it's overpriced food that is extremely deep fry to the point there is no meat that goes for the catfish as well as the shrimp. The food is very bland. There's no seasoning not even on the french fries. I will never be returning back to the hush puppy but by all means if you love food that is extremely fried that is extremely bland no flavor whatsoever and is extremely overpriced. I'm talking about $30 a plate be my guest this place is for you.

Yelp
I can't even count how many times I've drove past The Hush Puppy and said to myself, "I need to eat there!" It seems like a historical staple in the valley. Finally I went for dinner & was not disappointed. The inside is huge & definitely gives off a bayou vibe with all the NOLA inspired decor. The menu features various fried seafoods and apps. I decided to do the ayce shrimp which also came with a side. I thought the value was really good for the price. The shrimp was juicy, crispy & delicious. Complimentary hush puppies are also provided in a couple different flavors. Definitely come hungry because I could barely finish one plate of food. A great local find & I will definitely be back again!

Yelp
I never do negative reviews. I normally sing a restaurant's praises - or just don't go back. I am going to make an exception just this once for my visit to Hush Puppy this evening. So I pull up to the drive through and a voice says "What do you want?" (Not a good start.) I tell the voice (sounds like a high school kid) I just need 6 pieces of fish and 6 shrimp - no sides. He tells me "We don't sell pieces of shrimp - just the meals." Me: "I want to be clear - you are telling me you can not sell me six pieces of shrimp?" Him: "Yea, so do you want the shrimp dinner" Me: "No - I'll just have the fish." I pull forward about a foot and look at the menu - where there is a six piece shrimp appetizer. Me: "Isn't that appetizer just 6 pieces of shrimp?" Him: "Yea - I can sell you that. So I pull up to the drive through and 10 minutes later someone (other than the guy who took my order) comes to the window with a bag. I open it and there are 6 pieces fish - and a box of French fries. I ask the guy: Me: "Where are the shrimp?" New Guy: "Shrimp?" He takes back the bag, looks in it and walks back in. So about 5 minutes later the 1st guy comes to the window (probably older than he sounds - white guy, glasses short hair maybe mid 20s to 30?) and says Him: "It will be 5 minutes?" Me: "Why?" Him: "They cook shrimp to order." Me: "I ordered the shrimp 20 minutes ago.? Him "Do you want it or not?" Me: "Whatever - do what you have to do." So another 10 minutes later he comes back with the bag. It now contains the fish and the shrimp. I ask for a receipt (wasn't given one - wasn't one in the bag) wanted to make sure THAT wasn't screwed up too. Him: "You want a receipt?" Me: "Yes" So he couldn't find the receipt,. Couldn't figure out how to generate one. I finally gave up Me: "If this is what service has become here - I won't be back." Here is the capper to the whole episode, and the reason I am writing this: Him: "Get out of here! I don't need your business." And the icing on the cake was that when I got home - the fish was inedible - it was "tough," like it had spent a couple of hours under a heat lamp. Folks, I live in a town with over 4000 restaurants. You do not get a 2nd chance after screwing up this badly. There are too many other alternatives. I'll go to the ones that DO need my business. I suggest you do the same.

Yelp
Awful.. We've been going there for years and always enjoyed it. The new owners have ruined this restaurant. We've even gone back after several bad experiences hoping it was an off night. Still terrible, they advertised they have cocktails, and when u order a drink they say they have no bartenders. Try to order a wine, can't even pour that. I even called last night ahead of time to ask if there was a bartender and they said yes. We got there, No cocktails. Food has gone downhill. It's definitely Not worth going anymore. It's such a shame . I didn't want to even give a 1 star.

Yelp
Man, it's so heartbreaking to see a local restaurant not be a family favorite anymore. I woke up craving fried goodness & so I asked my Mom if she wanted to come to Hush Puppy with me & she jumped right up. See, we live in Henderson so we were so bummed out that the one on Nellis shut down unexpectedly. Now we had to go to the one on W. Charleston... For anyone who lives out here, that's a drive lol but that's how much we love Hush Puppy! We get there around 3:30 pm & there was no one in the parking lot, yeah that's a sign but if you know Hush Puppy used to open at 4 so we didn't know if it was open or if the vibe changed. I checked the time & it was open so we went to the drive thru. We made our order and were sad to see some of the best appetizers were gone like the fried oysters. We finally got our food & headed back to Henderson. As soon as we got home my Mom was so sad about the quality of the food, they cut the filets in half so it's a smaller amount of fish & for the price point it was not worth it. Also, she asked for farmed raised so the filets should have been thicker, but it looked like the freshwater filets. I got the shrimp & chicken tenders and you can't go wrong with the shrimp but the chicken tenders were underwhelming. I understand new ownership & change, but I don't see myself going out of my way to knock a craving straight. The drive thru service was awesome, but it's just not the same. I think they would do well with a name change so there's not a high expectation of nostalgia with the locals.

Yelp
What happened? The fish here use to be good. I went tonight and couldn't even finish a half of the fillet-fish. I won't be back the box was dripping with grease, fish didn't taste fresh at all, breading was gritty like they coated it with sand, fish was mushy all and all its was honestly disgusting! I know this place won't be around long it is just a matter of time because this was awful! I'm not going to even bother taking a picture of the food itself ... the box was enough I get more nauseous just writing this review and thinking about it!! UPDATE: The weird manager strikes again and even takes it upon self to write me again to be rude days later. I moved on you should too! Additional screenshots below. So unprofessional.

Yelp
This place used to be a family favorite and a usual spot for our family dinners. Unfortunately, it seems to get worse every time I go and tonight was definitely the last time I'll ever consider going back. After ordering our drinks and placing our food orders, the wait staff just seemed to vanish. Our table was one out of 2 total tables seated at on a Sunday night and we sat with empty drinks for over 20 minutes. When we did manage to see someone walk by, we asked for refills and were brought one refilled drink as the other 4 drinks remained empty. Asking for additional drinks seemed to bother the staff and it was like pulling teeth to get anything else to the table. When the main meals were brought out, the orders were wrong but the overall taste was good. After dinner, I went to the men's restroom to wash my hands and the bathroom smelled of urine and had crumpled paper towels thrown about on the floor and on top of the sink counter. All 3 paper towel dispensers were empty so you had to exit the bathroom with wet hands. The dinner experience overall was very unsatisfactory and overpriced for the lack of service we received.
