Seattle Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know for November 2025 | Eater Seattle

"Specifically designed for people who want to sit at a bar and read (with occasional “quiet hours”), this Ballard hangout pours wine and literary cocktails like "Alas Poor Yorick" and offers tinned fish and flatbread." - Harry Cheadle

The Ink Drinker - Review - Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Billing itself as a bistro for book lovers, there’s very little in the way of distraction here. No TVs, no loud groups, just folks curled up with a novel from home or one borrowed from the bar’s shelf. On the menu are cocktails, low-ABV options, and plenty of non-alcoholic choices, alongside a few light snacks." - Kayla Sager-Riley

The Ink Drinker, a New ‘Bar for Book Lovers’ Is Set to Open in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"If you're a habitual bar-reader, there's a spot opening this winter on Market Street in Ballard called the Ink Drinker, replacing the recently closed Ballard Beer Company; the owner describes it as “a bar where you can come, kick back with your latest read, and enjoy a craft cocktail (or mocktail) with minimal distractions (i.e. no TVs, no blaring music, no clangy pool tables), while surrounded by fellow book lovers,” promising an experience not unlike getting slightly tipsy in a library." - Harry Cheadle

Such a wonderful new addition to ballard! The vibes are immaculate, it’s very cozy and the perfect spot for a book club evening out or just a little catch up with friends. the cocktails are very unique and tasty! the standout for me was the flatbread, truly one of the best flatbreads i’ve ever had.

Amazing experience, even on a busy opening night! The drinks were amazing and the food was delicious! But, above and beyond was the stellar service! Alex was so kind and attentive and really made our whole evening! I can’t wait to come back and to recommend this spot to every book lover I know! If you want a cozy night, a great drink; and a tasty bite, this is the spot for you!

Delicious cocktails, friendly staff, and very accommodating of our book club group. Highly recommend this lovely new spot! I especially enjoyed the Plain Bad Heroine and the Damned Dane, with its smoked rosemary flavor. Highly enjoyable, and fittingly fun drink names. I liked the thoughtfulness of the menu, in terms of including N/A and low-proof drink options. My friends had the flatbreads and really liked those as well.

I think this place has potential, however some work still is needed. The drink prices are really high, I understand how hard things are for small business owners but realistically you can get a cocktail or beer for 30% less a few steps away. The ambiance isn’t there yet, when I went the lights were so bright and the place felt empty, almost halfway done. It’s not super cozy. I love the originality of the space and hope they can figure those things out.

Wow, this place is no joke. I visited on a whim with a friend during a Sunday evening "silent reading" period. I am typically a "read alone in a loud bar" kind of person, so I arrived with some skepticism. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this deep, concentrated reading time outside of my own home, amongst other readers. The ambience of the place (great jazz selection on rotation) was to die for. I will surely return and could see myself a regular. LOVE that Ink Drinker exists!

Love the vibes/ambiance, and the plan to have dedicated quiet reading hours. I've been waiting for this place to open since it was first announced! The only downside is the current prices; my beer was $12, and my friend's cider was $14. I'd love to be a regular here, but it's hard to justify when I can get a boilermaker across the street for cheaper than a beer at The Ink Drinker. I really want them to succeed, so I hope they give their pricing some more thought!

I have been waiting for a place like this my entire adult life. A cozy, warm, mellow place to sit and read while enjoying thoughtful cocktails and incredible food. My server, Laura, was phenomenal. When there was a hiccup with my food they made it right immediately and comped the meal. I am so glad to have a place like this in my neighborhood and look forward to making it a regular spot!

I can’t wait to performatively read here over and over again!!! /s In all seriousness, an amazing spot that combines cozy and craft cocktails. Nailed the ambiance for reading. Seriously we’ve collectively yearned for a quiet place with no tvs and here it is!!
