"Mama’s Fish House is a legendary restaurant on Hana Highway on Maui’s North Shore. Famous not just for fresh fish and tropical cocktails but for its lookout over Ho’okipa Beach, a popular spot for surfers and windsurfers, the restaurant has expanded into proper overnight accommodations. To get to the inn, head down a small street behind the restaurant, where a cottage with stained-glass windows serves as a lobby and reception area. Aside from the negative COVID-19 test requirements for guests, the inn’s employees also partake in a daily digital health screening that they must pass before heading to work. The restaurant is operating at 50 percent reduced capacity and requires reservations for both dinner and lunch. The bars and lounges are still closed." - Juliana Shallcross

"What's the story?Mama’s Fish House is a legendary restaurant along the Hana Highway on Maui’s North Shore. Famed for not just for fresh fish and tropical cocktails but for its lookout over Ho’okipa Beach, a popular spot for surfers and windsurfers. Piggybacking off the success of Mama’s Fish House restaurant, the owners expanded to include accommodations in order to give visitors the option of extending their experience past dinner. The inn has 12 cottages and suites, and—fun fact—the owners live next door. To get to the inn, head down a small street behind the restaurant, where a cottage with stained-glass windows serves as a lobby and reception area. What are the rooms like? The inn’s adorable suites and cottages are light and happy, and filled with a mix of Polynesian and modern decor. Is there a charge for WiFi?Wi-Fi is free. What should we be eating at the restaurant? Are there other places to dine close by?You’ll have to eat at Mama’s Fish House at least once during your stay. The menu changes daily depending on what the fishermen catch that morning, but the legendary tropical cocktails are a constant. The inn is also close to the equally local-minded restaurants in Paia. Did you enjoy the service? What do we need to know?Everyone at Mama’s is friendly and helpful; a few staffers have grown up on Maui. As you're escorted to your room, you’re given a tour of the property. The inn office closes at 6 p.m., but there's an emergency number to call after-hours. What's the crowd like?Small families like Mama’s for its down-home feeling and gentle waters. But you'll also see a mix of folks who’ve been to Maui a few times and want a break from the resort scene. How does this property fit into the neighborhood's hotel scene?Hotels are rare on the North Shore. The Inn at Mama’s Fish House has not just a stellar restaurant, but the sort of cozy accommodations that make you feel as though you’re family. Is there anything you'd change? There’s not much to change here—it's that lovely. Did any other little details stand out to you?The morning delivery of Mama’s News—wrapped around the local newspaper, the one-sheeter details area activities, the weather and surf conditions, and a Hawaiian word of the day—is an especially unique touch. Bottom line: Why should we stay here? This is a great way to experience Maui's true character." - Juliana Shallcross

We have been going to mama‘s Fish House for over 30 years. It never fails to please but the experience last night for 35th wedding anniversary was superb. Absolutely one of the best restaurants we have ever gone to after experiencing fine dining around the globe. The food was spectacular, the service was Top-notch, and of course, the setting is gorgeous. We decided to treat ourselves by staying in one of their cottages. We were greeted on check-in with gorgeous Hawaiian flowers all over our room and a spectacularly outfitted ambience. I will admit it was a little pricey, but well worth it. We would highly recommend staying here for the treat of a lifetime!!!

Google
Dining at Mama’s is a fantastic experience, especially if your reservation happens around sunset. The setting on the beach is so romantic- if I had to guess, the most romantic dining spot on Maui! The entrees are classic island fine dining, and the food and drinks were excellent. There are options for someone who wants to try something new and a little exotic, and choices for the less adventurous diner too. We felt like we traveled back in time on the island for a couple of lovely hours. We loved celebrating our 25th anniversary here, twice! Definitely time your reservation before sunset if you can!

Google
We spent three nights here on our honeymoon. We were able to eat at the restaurant twice and had a beautiful room and view of the ocean. This was a great starting point to our road to hana tour.

Google
We came here for our honeymoon and absolutely loved everything about it! It truly is worth the hype! The food was incredible and unlike anything I’ve ever had before. The flavors were exquisite! We had an ocean view and it was beautiful. Truly made the perfect ending to our honeymoon!

Google
The food is as beautiful as the calm tropical Hawaiian setting. Since I’m from the mainland, I am impressed with how every stage of the meal is so consistently delicious! No matter how long has gone by since my last visit, I can always count on Mama’s Fish House to provide a special delight.

Google
We had a lovely two night stay at the Inn. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed our garden lanai. A short walk to a small beach and Mama’s Fish House. Beach gear is included.

Google
Joseph was great, the staff was awesome. Ambience always so unique and magical. Really great fine dining experience with a casual beach vibe. Breathtaking photo spot too! Our only complaint was the kanpachi, I think that's what it was called, was a little bland and dry. Most of the table ordered it and expected more. However, I got the ahi and mahi curry and it was AMAZING. Delicious Maui decaf coffee afterwards with dessert was killer.

Google
Incredible accommodations! My spouse and I spent a week here celebrating our 30th anniversary. The pictures really do not do the cottage justice. I wish I could upload the short videos I took.

Yelp
This is our 2nd stay on the property...the grounds and accommodations are absolutely stunning but the staff make it so much more enjoyable. They're welcoming and kind, going above and beyond to ensure everyone has an enjoyable time. We will continue to stay here when we are in town. We've stayed at both the one bedroom upstairs Opakapaka and the two bedroom downstairs which is called Ono. The downstairs has a better outdoor patio area but the upstairs has an awesome shower with several shower heads. Both a very nice! One thing to keep in mind if staying downstairs is that if the upstairs is occupied you can hear the foot traffic. But it wasn't too bad.

Yelp
I think that this is one of Maui's hidden gems! Coming from a 5 star, 5 Diamond hotel background, I cannot speak enough of the amount of effort and details they put into their guest experience. As you step foot into their lobby you are greeted by friendly, smiling faces. You can feel the aloha spirit as they check you in and take you to your suite. As you walk through the suite there are fresh Hawaiian flower displays everywhere. If you have ever eaten in their restaurant, they have fresh picked flowers in their restaurant restrooms. They do the same thing in the suite bathroom. There are towels elaborately folded with fresh picked flowers and on our bed there were 2 swans folded out of towels with more flowers. The kitchen has everything you may need for your vacation. A stove, microwave, refrigerator, coffee/espresso machine, glasses in the freezer, fresh baked banana bread, and their famous Mamas Fish House coffee blend, We didn't use the kitchen much because how can you resist the aroma of the food coming from the restaurant? The plus side to staying there is you can walk up to the hostess stand and order food for take out. Although we did have reservations in the restaurant one night, who wouldn't want to eat fresh island caught fish every night from their famous restaurant! The best part about the inn is you are footsteps away from a beautiful beach. I literally could open the door and walk out to the beach. The gorgeous sunrises and sunsets from the beach were breathtaking. They have beach towels available in your room and the beach is perfect for families with small children. The beach is shallow enough for kids to play while you sit on the sand. We stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary and that morning at our front door they had our newspaper rolled, bagged with a flower on it and in it there was a paper that read: Happy Anniversary Ikaika and Tracie. There was also a card at our table for dinner that night. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a memorable vacation. It's perfect for families that want the resort feeling, without all the crowds of people around you.

Yelp
WOW, this is the only place to stay on Maui...I traded my place @ the Islander on Kauai and experienced the true Aloha, Kyi was so humble for the week stay and since I was staying at the Inn, I always had a place at the crowded MAMA's restaurant and the New Zealand Salmon & Blue Lobster was my go to every other time, the smell of the Gardens are what Hawaii is about. The baby mama beach is great for kids as more of a lagoon, saw Willie Nelson & his son one day in the Bar...this is my go to place in Paia as layer back and not crowded....will be back, soon Donny

Yelp
This is a treasure extradonaire;lets you escape from the hustle of tourism. Beautiful room with fresh personal touches of floral & palatable delights. If youre blessed to get one of their Oceanfront cottages, youre in for a treat of awakening all your senses to the Maui No Ka Oi. Seeing & hearing the ocean & cascading rainbows, the fragrance of immaculate landscaping, feeling the cool breeze & misty morning drizzle. Enjoy the shower jets to soothe you into the comfortable beds. Hospitality & service at its finest. Highly recommended for every occassion & stay-cation. Congratulations to all who create this experience

Jodie L.

Yelp
This was the best lodging I have ever had. Amazing room, fully outfitted kitchen, walk a few yards to the beach. Close proximity to everything. You cannot go wrong with this place.

Samantha M.

Yelp
WOW. The staff literally went above and beyond. The room was clean, beautiful and spacious. It was one of the nicest places I ever stayed. They supplied coffee & fresh banana bread (best on the island). When our flight was delayed they changed our reservations for dinner. They also Carried luggage to our room when it came two days late from the airline. We loved the private beach and we saw a turtle on it!

Caylynne E.

Yelp
We stayed in the Ulua Room. It was VERY clean (thanks to Queenie and Aki). But the room is dated with stained chair coverings and carpet. The lighting in the bedroom is very poor. Keep in mind that there is NO discount or free appetizer or dessert at Mama's Fish House restaurant even though you are staying at their inn. I probably wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
OH WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE. If you want a place that really cares about the little details to make your experience great, you absolutely have to stay at The Inn At Mama's Fish House. We stayed here for 2 nights as the starting and ending point for Road to Hana and it was definitely worth it. When we arrived, we were greeted by great customer service and free bottles of Fiji water! How FANCY! We booked the 2 bedroom garden cottage and right when we entered the gate to our home for the next 2 days...we were amazed with everything the Inn had to offer! There was a complimentary food tray with fresh fruits and banana bread as well as a towel cake for our friend who was celebrating her birthday. In our cottage, we had a kitchen with new appliances, large dining room table, clean bathroom, comfortable couches and seats, TV, and 2 private rooms. This was plenty of room for 5 guests. The couch also pulls out to a sofa bed. Additionally, the cottage had its own patio with outdoor seating and a grill if you wanted to do some BBQ. What we didn't know was there was also a free washer and dryer for our use! That was a great plus. The location was perfect! Walking distance to Mama's Fish House and nearby beaches as well as close driving distance to downtown Paia and the start of Road to Hana. Instead of going out at night, we found ourselves wanting to relax at our cottage and have a Netflix and wine kind of night. The Inn was THAT homey and comfortable. The only concern was the wifi was a bit spotty, but that allowed us to really focus on the beautiful surroundings around us!

Jackson R.

Yelp
We were way early for our booking, so we wanted to adventure around the area. Since we had just come from the airport we were covered in bags. Kim at the lobby front desk was so gracious to us. We asked if we could leave our bags with them while we waited and she quickly accommodated us. She also found an opening to arrange a reservation for us at Mama' Fish House that we were unable to secure for ourselves. All positive experiences with this team. Highly recommend.

Julie T.

Yelp
Aloha, Our family of 4 recently stayed in the Mololo Cottage. The cottage itself was lovely, with plenty of space for us and our two girls (8 and 10) to spread out. We particularly enjoyed the view across the manicured lawn through the palm trees to the ocean. The cottage itself was top notch... beautiful carpentry, with spalted (koa?) wood throughout, an amazing shower with more spray heads than you could ever want, and a small kitchen area with high end appliances (wolf and sub-zero). Having said all that, when you come to the Inn at Mama's, more than likely you are planning to dine at the amazing restaurant. We were surprised at the absence of coordination between the restaurant and the inn. When we asked the innkeeper to request a window table for us, we were told that we need to speak to the host. I found that odd, considering that we were spending $1,000 per night for the experience of staying at the property, before getting the restaurant bill. Perhaps my expectations were misguided... When we arrived at the restaurant for our reservation, we were told that it would be about a 45 minute wait, if we wanted a window table. I didn't find this unreasonable, as it was a busy night, but waiting in a lounge area with our two young girls felt like we might be pressing our luck, so I asked if the host could call us in our room when the table was ready (literally about 45 paces from our lanai). We were told that we must remain in the waiting area or that we would forfeit our reservation. Ultimately, we had a lovely dinner at a great table on the window. However, we found ourselves to be disappointed by the lack of coordination or reasonability among staff. This one-size-fits-all approach doesn't align with the experience they portray to provide. As an aside, the salt in the wound came at checkout when I discovered an additional $50 "service fee" added to the nightly room charge. While I'm accustomed to resort fees in this day and age, it was further disappointing that the staff could not deliver on fairly basic service requests. Moholo

Yelp
Score of the century. Basic but well maintained, immaculately clean and everything you need. We really enjoyed our stay at Mama's. The front desk staff are so lovely and accommodating, everyone is extremely welcoming and friendly. We appreciated the delicious and complimentary coffee, the banana bread on arrival and the well stocked kitchen so we could make breakfast, lunch, and even dinner should we want to. There's a free laundry onsite as well as boogie boards, beach umbrellas and chairs. This place is great, highly recommend!

Yelp
We had a great two weeks on Maui. As usual, we end it with a trip to Mama's Fish house and a night or two at the Inn. We'll typically start with a cocktail on arrival. Go get settled at the Inn. Take a walk or a drive to Paia and come back to have a glass of wine and get ready for dinner. TMI? Too bad. My review :) All the above is just one way to really immerse yourself into what is the Mama's experience. It's more than a quick stop for lunch. It's something you don't do everyday or do in haste. You really need to delve into every aspect of the experience. It ain't cheap and there are tons of reasons why. The staff. The food. The location. Read up on what the staff goes through to become a full fledged associate of Mama's. It's amazing. It shows. The food. The best. The attention to detail. Can't be beat. I could go on but I think you get the idea

Lee H.

Yelp
This place, though pricey and hard to get into is a staple of our vacations due to the amazing service and great food.... Not to mention the scenery! Splurge any enjoy if you're in the area.

Michael R.

Yelp
Must eat at place on Maui. Service from the bar to the restaurant was excellent. First time here and I'll go back before we leave. The food was excellent and worth it

Chacha T.

Yelp
People seem to confuse the restaurant with the inn, but I'm writing a review on the inn. We stayed in the Malolo beachfront cottage and it was the most amazing 4 days of my life. I'm not exaggerating. This place has everything you need for a welcoming stay in Maui, right next to one of the best restaurants on the island! Our cottage came with amenities you would find in a hotel. There is a grill and a bar area outside that is perfect for parties. We had a BBQ outside, relaxed on the hammock all day, had a good night's sleep in our well air conditioned room, and there were even board games in the closet! The outside patio that led to the beach/restaurant/public had chairs and tables that were perfect for dining. The staff was friendly and always willing to help us, and showed us the storage shack with all the beach/surf stuff! This place is a little on the pricey side, but is very well worth it! It's a great spot for families, it gets pretty loud at night because of the restaurant, but there's a lot for everyone in the family to do.

Michelle L.

Yelp
The Inn at Mama's Fish House is a great place to spend a few nights as you explore Maui. They offer excellent customer service and fantastic, luxe rooms with an authentic island vibe. Our "Luxury Junior Suite" had a large, open floor plan with a tropical vibe and very comfortable bed, nice kitchenette, TV watching area, private patio and gorgeous bathroom with a rain shower and soaking tub. It's nice to be able to walk to and from dinner at Mama's and we enjoyed the private beach. The charming town of Paia has really changed in the last few years and offers great beach-y shopping and some great restaurants. Borrow some beach chairs and towels from the hotel and explore the nearby beaches. We can't wait to go back!

Michael K.

Yelp
We totally enjoyed a relaxing weekend in a cottage at the Inn. The service was so thoughtful - true aloha ! We can't wait to book another visit and hope they are available since this has got to be one of the best places available in Maui

Jaysin A.

Yelp
They stay bothering people who be minding their own business. Should worry bout themselves and not people on the beach having fun

Lindsay S.

Yelp
Just darling, well appointed rooms. Beach was really rocky, but we still saw a giant sea turtle. Lovely grounds. Friendly staff. We'll be back.

Laura D.

Yelp
3.5 stars. We first read about the Inn at Mama's Fish House in Sunset Magazine and were very curious to check it out, especially with so much hype around the restaurant. After my bf and I spent a few lovely days detoxing at Windward Gardens B&B, we met up with a friend and needed a larger place for all of us to share. I was pleasantly surprised to find spacious, nicely furnished rooms with full kitchens and patios, some complete with barbecues. The images online don't do the interiors justice. In reality, they are more charming (and less cheesy island, or at least in a cute way). The staff is also very friendly. We liked that we could effortlessly stroll down to the small beach and head over to the restaurant for a drink or lunch, but also had the option of doing our own cooking. Eating at the restaurant can get pricey quickly. We stayed in two different cottages while there. Our first place was a garden cottage with two rooms--a little noisy next to the maintenance building, but cute. Be sure to ask not to have the last cottage on the end. Our second cottage was great. It was the two bedroom beachfront cottage that's pictured on the website and in Sunset. Overall, Mama's Fish House is a restaurant first and an Inn second, so while the property was overall picturesque and easy going, some of the attention to detail in creating a peaceful getaway wasn't there (e.g. they were powerwashing the patio of the owner's house on our last morning--right outside our door, and there was a bit of clanging and clattering with the maintenance and restaurant crew). We would definitely head back to the restaurant (lovely food and atmosphere), but probably not to the inn. However, it's a great location and could serve a small family or group well if quiet wasn't their priority.

Elaine A.

Yelp
Great stay at the Inn at Mama's in the Ahi suite. Private lanai, great sitting area, comfortable bed and good little efficiency kitchen. Highly recommend staying overnight when having dinner at Mama's!

Peter I.

Yelp
the best fish I had in hawaii. Expensive, but you get the fish that you think your going to get all over the islands and sadly you don't. great location, but book early. I went for lunch and the prices are not lunch prices...so that trick doesn't work here. Still worth the price.

Glenn H.

Yelp
The perfect restaurant! Rarely do you find the perfect location combined with perfect service and pefect food (everything)! Words don't describe the wonderfulness of our experience. Thank you!

Princess R.

Yelp
I fell in love with the Inn at Mama's Fish House in Paia. The extent of hospitality and convenience is absolutely amazing. All of the little touches just made it feel like home.

Louis R.

Yelp
More like $$$$$$$$$$$$$$, Yelp. Best fish on Maui. They catch it, season it, and stick it on a plate. They even put the name of the boat and the captain that snagged that big fish on the menu, by the item. Sick views of the ocean + FRESH fish. Mele Kalikimaka, Kama'aina

Bunneh L.

Yelp
We stayed in a two bedroom cottage with a garden view for $275/night, which we thought was reasonable. It had its own patio with a grill. Overall, it was pretty nice, but coming from the Westin Villas in Ka'anapali where we had stayed the previous five nights, we could really tell the difference in the lack of polish and finish. The floor of the bathroom shower stall was dirty looking and we wore our flip flops while showering. Although there was nothing that stood out as being "dirty" or "dumpy" per se, we just didn't feel it was pristine. Also, the furniture and decor seemed dated and worn out. The banana bread and fresh fruit on the dining room table was a really nice touch and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They also have nice shampoo and soap. I really disliked the bedspread, as it was really more like a thick canvas sheet, so we removed it. The TV and AC worked just fine. Also, we thought it was awesome that the kitchen was stocked with ziplock bags, plastic wrap, and aluminum foil, which most resort condos with kitchens do not provide. They had free Wifi as well. If we had to do it again, I guess we would, but not for more than two nights. You have access to the beach adjacent to the restuarant, but it really isn't swimmable. There were several shallow tidepools that we saw others wading around in (mostly unsupervised children), but the water was stagnant and contained large amounts of algae and/or seaweed. I did NOT want to swim in those tidepools! Maybe it's better at high tide. I'd recommend this place for a few nights as a break from the perfectly manicured resort scene, if that's what you're into. Good for a change of pace, but I wouldn't want to stay for super long.

Vince D.

Yelp
I love Mama's restaurant and bar, but I won't be staying at their Inn again for one reason: noise. Our room was right next to a worker's area, which was hardly relaxing. When they weren't clanging and banging and laughing, they were power washing sidewalks with noisy machines and doing various construction jobs on various rooms. The rooms themselves are nice and the staff is courteous, but my advice is to stick with the restaurant and bar and stay elsewhere if you want a little peace and quiet.

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
We stayed here for one night after we flew into OGG airport. Probably my favorite place to stay during our 7 days in Maui. It wasn't a luxury setting by any means (felt like my very own apartment in Maui with its own full kitchen, dining table, sofa, work table, DVD player). It was clean, very "island," and they had the best banana bread, coffee and delicious fruit waiting for you upon arrival. Seriously, if you like tart banana chunks in your not-too-sweet banana bread, then you gotta book a night just to have your morning coffee and banana bread around your own dining table. We had the smallest studio room offered here and it was plennnnnty of space. There's complementary wi-fi here and the staff here is friendly and on top of their game.

Martin S.

Yelp
The Inn at Mama's Fish House exceeded our expectations. We stayed for one night between stays at the Four Seasons and the Halekulani. Next time we will stay longer! We've been to the restaurant before but wanted to stay on this side of the island to experience Paia for more than a mere pass through as we had done on previous trips. We chose the Jr Suite and were surprised at how great the room was. The website pictures do not truly convey how great this place is. We expected something small; instead the Ahi room had 20-foot ceilings and a bathroom that should be featured in a design magazine. The use of light and building materials in these rooms can't easily be described. There is a glass brick arch over the huge tub that when the light filters through creates the illusion of being underwater. Stonework on the private lanai looks like a reef. Huge windows bring in natural lighting. A short walk through a gate took us to the restaurant and beach. Yes, it is crowded during lunch and dinner, but we had the entire beautiful beach to ourselves during the morning and afternoon. We also did not experience any of the noise others have described. Maybe the suite is far enough away from the loud parts of the property. Ask for the Ahi room by name. Lots of special amenities included. Welcome basket with ground coffee, kitchenette, beach chairs and towels, free laundry facilities, and a discount at the restaurant. The restaurant manager gave us a celebration lei and a free dessert since it was our anniversary. The staff here really has the aloha spirit! Lisa, the manager, was friendly and gave us a late checkout and stored our luggage while we went into Paia one last time before we left Maui. Mahalo!

K J.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. We loved the sashimi trio, crab stuffed mahi entree and drinks. We did not love the shrimp spring roll, but everything else was perfect.

Dawgs W.

Yelp
We spent a couple days on the North side of Maui at the beginning of our trip, and stayed in the Lehi cottage at The Inn at Mama's. Our cottage was great! It is not fancy, but it had everything we were looking for, the price was right and the service staff was really all about service. They call it a "Garden Studio" but it's bigger than a studio with a full, separate kitchen. And we could walk home after dinner at Mama's! If you're looking for a nicer place, I think Mama's also has cottages available with views of the water. The Mama's beach is incredible - different from the beaches on the South side of Maui. Deeper water makes for deeper blues, and there is more wind. We had a fun time sitting on the beach watching kitesurfers and windsurfers. We have been wanting to spend some time on the North side, and this turned out to be a perfect way to make it happen.

Tara B.

Yelp
Everything was wonderful!! Reservations took some figuring out....so we came for lunch. Sascha was such a wonderful server. We had the wasabi crusted calamari , the mahi Mahi stuffed with lobster and a fresh fish of the day. Now I know why the list is long and everyone says to go there

Connie R.

Yelp
We were so excited about staying at Mama's Fish House. We reserved a Garden Studio for $175.00/night. The "Lehi" studio was off the driveway and parking area. First impressions were that the sleeping area was spacious but dated. I was prepared for that given some reviews describing dated rooms. As my husband laid down for a nap, I noticed that he sunk deeply into the bed like a pile of marshmallows and I wondered if his back issues would flare up from such a poor mattress. The kitchen and bath area were dismal, and in terrible shape: BADLY cracking and shifting ancient floor tiles, stained and chipped toilet, stained shower with a large gap for critter entry, clogged sink with broken stopper, and chipped cabinet doors with no working latches. To make matters worse, there was detailed magazine article about how the owners spent years and 3 million dollars with a master craftsman building their GORGEOUS home just off the beach. The two stars are given because the staff is amazing and friendly. We were upgraded to a nice studio where we were so relieved we didn't even mind the construction and jackhammering outside the room, nor the centipede scooting across the floor. Every little thing you could want from toothpicks to kids' beach toys is carefully accessed. The grounds at the restaurant and inn are beautiful and they are upgrading the office and landscaping with incredible artistic touches. The moral is: save your pennies and don't go for a "low price" studio. The owners of the inn should upgrade the less expensive rooms which are not in keeping with the rest of the inn.

Yelp
I recently took a trip to Maui w/ friends and family. I didn't want to go to Mama's fish house, because I heard it was over priced but the word was "you have to try it." Somehow I got persuaded. (mental note: I really need to start putting my foot down.) Luckily they did convince me though, because my dinner was beyond delicious, it was incredible. I had the stuffed Mahi Mahi with a weird rub or crust on it. It was stuffed w/ lobster and crab I believe. I'm not sure what it was called, but was the only one on the menu. I believe it was like $52 or so just for that meal, but OMG it was bomb. I wanted badly to hate this place, just so that I can prove everyone wrong, but they do a damn good job there. The service was excellent. The appetizers we tried was the lobster guacamole & the ceviche. The ceviche fish was the head cheerleader of the school it came from, because it just cheered my tongue on. It's a must have. Here's a tip : if it's your bday they'll give you a free lei so even if it isn't mention it :) Mahalo & Aloha Mama's fish house, you've done a great job!

Yelp
We stayed in the least expensive room, a studio which faces the parking lot. My initial reaction was horror. But then I calmed down, and got over it. The ocean is right through the gate, so no big deal. The noise at some times of the day was an issue, but this is what we did. Before bed, close the windows, set the AC thermostat to match whatever the existing temp is, turn the to ON, not auto. The effect is a nice quiet breeze, just like the ocean breeze, but no noise from the outside. Why 4 stars? Because the people who work there could not be more accomodating or understanding. The furnishings were very well thought out, the little garden adorable, the cleaning was perfect. Lisa the manager, gives you her home cell phone number for anything that may come up in the middle of the night. How nice is that? Would I stay there again? Yes I would, with pleasure.

Yelp
We stayed in Opah, a luxury junior suite, and loved it. The room was huge the bed was comfortable and the linens were of good quality. The choice of times to dine in the restaurant was great and the 15% discount on food and beverage was a bonus. Pretty much everything here was perfect. I think we will make a night or two of staying and dining here a Maui tradition!

Yelp
A lovely place to stay. The bigger beachfront "cottages" (they aren't actually cottages, but small houses with multiple rooms) are nice, close to the beach and well equipped. We found ours clean and stocked with all the amenities you would expect from this level of hotel: lots of towels, separate beach towels, full kitchen. The only caveat is that I would make reservations directly with the Inn, not through a Vacation Broker, as communication issues gave us a room with a queen bed, rather than the king we thought we had booked. And once the place is full, there's not much they can do. (Paula, I'm looking at you.) In typical Time Warner Cable fashion, the broadband access is more like fast dialup than 3G, regardless of whether you are connecting through WiFi or cell, but this is true of TWC all over the Islands. Maybe if we complain enough, Mama's will change providers.

Yelp
"Oh you're going to Maui? Then you have to try this restaurant - Mama's Fish House." So that we did. Mama's was recommended to us by everyone that we knew that had been to Maui! We dined in for lunch on a weekday, but still made reservations (which weren't needed). Setting and scenery was gorg! Mama's gets points for their excellent service, creative cocktail menu, and for letting you know who caught your fish and where it was from. I liked my meal more than his - the unu, a mild white fish than the stuffed mahi-mahi (a bit heavy and fishy for my liking). Prices were a bit steep, but it is a high quality meal with friendly but professional service.

Yelp
Went to Maui for a wedding in November 2011. Wedding party and family of the bride/groom stayed at the Inn at Mama's Fish House. We were there nightly visiting them. GORGEOUS view (we walked right down to the private beach every evening), clean and attractive rooms, friendly staff, and great private outdoor area for grilling/lounging. I would definitely stay here if I ever come back to Maui!

Yelp
Mr. Kupcakes and I stayed at the Inn at Mama's Fish House and LOVED it. We stayed there while having our Maui on wedding and it couldn't have been better! Loved having all the convinces of a full kitchen and living area, but still having a maid service who even did our dishes! We checked into the garden studio which is a quaint little cottage with a lanai and a hop, skip and a jump to the beach. The cottage is so sweet with all of it's old Hawaii touches. I knew instantly I was going to enjoy our time here. I was so happy that we would be there for 10 days!

Yelp
The manager at this property is totally heartless! We made reservations a YEAR in advance. We let them know that due to my wife's hip replacement surgery, we can not take a room on the second floor as there are no elevators. Where do we get places? On the freaking second floor!!! Her repeated 'I'm sorry" comments doesn't help us one bit. I'm very annoyed by her lack of customer service.

Yelp
My wife and I were arriving at Kahului airport relatively late in the evening and wanted to stay someplace without a long drive and with decent dining. We joined another couple who arrived earlier and were wowed by the two bedroom beachfront cottage. The furnishings were perfectly matched to the great tropical setting. Rooms were stocked with luxurious bath accessories and toiletry items. Morning coffee on the beachfront porch followed by a stroll on the well maintained grounds were the perfect way to start a Maui vacation. Also, a great value. We would definitely go back.

Yelp
We just stayed here for 8 nights to have our wedding on the beach here and our reception at Mama's Fish House. I cannot say enough good things about this inn. They greeted us with a fresh fruit plate and delicious banana bread, which were all yummy! In addition, they put fresh flowers as decorations in our towels and various places around the room, which was always fun to come back to. On the morning of our wedding, my bridesmaids and I left the room a disaster zone, and yet, came home to find it so nice and tidy, they totally went above and beyond the call of duty. We were there during the tsunami, and Lisa, the manager, gave me her personal cell phone number to call to make sure we found a safe place to evacuate to and to be in touch if there was anything needed, etc. How great is that? You definitely don't find that at the bigger places! Lastly, after we left and were at the airport, I realized I had left my Kindle in one of the beach chairs we borrowed from them during the week. The manager on duty, Sarah, went and found it and sent me an email while we were in-flight, saying she sent it to me and a tracking number to follow it. They're definitely not the cheapest place, but that's not why you go there, is it? I was incredibly impressed with the whole experience, and look forward to our next trip there as soon as possible. They do need to update pics on their website, though, because their actual decorations are a lot more updated and attractive than those in their current pictures. I was expecting fairly nice rooms in a good location, and got fantastic rooms in a great location!

Yelp
I came to Maui for a close friends wedding. I..of course Yelped and saw that this place was highly rated...LOL. Well, I checked their website and of course prices for their food weren't listed...I'm always scared of that type of restaurant...Um, well yes the view is nice and free valet parking and atmosphere and service was great. OVER PRICED and OVER RATED for the food. I think tourists "ignore" the true fact what good food is according to price. I think people who pay a VERY HIGH price to go to places like this, of course are NOT going to say it was "just O.K." or "NOT GOOD". It's just like guys who buys a half a million dollar Ferrari and say "Oh damn, that was a mistake and the car sucks". Just saying..... Not trying to compare this restaurant to cars but the point I'm trying to get at is that the price is just NOT worth it. The food isn't bad...just not worth the price. Just because something is expensive DOESN'T mean that it will be GREAT..and just because something is CHEAP, DOESN'T mean that it's bad. As a matter of fact, a $4.00 Western Bacon Cheese Burger (which in Hawaii would have been about $8.00) would have much more satisfied our group way better than this place. I understand that it's Hawaii and things must cost more, but THAT MUCH MORE??. It's funny, on their menu, it actually mentions who catches their fresh fish daily,...don't know if it's true but even so, I'd rather not make such a big bragging fuss about it, especially when tourists like me wouldn't care much about who caught the fish. I think it's a hype or a way to make you guilty enough for the person so called "catching this fresh fish" to validate the high price... This place also takes quite a long time to get us beers ( not mixed drinks..just beer)...don't know why but they just did.. Sorry Mama's Fish House, just didn't do it for me. I LOVE giving good reviews but this review is NOT for quality because the quality is there...just didn't justify high pricing. I'm not sure but my guess is "tourist" milking is in mind.. My lesson: Don't EVER go to a restaurant without knowing prices...Yelp reviews might sometimes "encourage" wasteful spending. I'm a bargain hunter but also emphasize on quality. Please read my reviews carefully and NOT get discouraged if what I emphasize is NOT what you value....

Yelp
At the recommendation of a friend I traveled quite a distance from Wailea to this restaurant. It was well worth it. Located adjacent to a private lighted beach, the ambiance was romantic and the food was out of this world. A meal I will never forget. The price is worth it...you get what you pay for. One of the most memorable meals I have ever had. If you are visiting Maui, do not miss this spectacular restaurant.

Yelp
My sister booked us 3 nights at the Inn as an engagement gift and truthfully, I wish she had picked a better place. We stayed in the Opah suite and although the room was lovely and the bed was heavenly... It just didn't override the fact that we entered THROUGH THE BACK OF THE RESTAURANT every time we pulled in. I mean seriously.. does this say luxury to you?? It smelled like the back of a restaurant and it was loud like the back of a restaurant.. and I found it to be more depressing than peaceful. I would only suggest staying here for a night when you visit the restaurant. That way you get the 15% off at the restaurant and you have a nice little parking space and then a short walk to lay down... as you will want to eat everything bc it is that delicious. Another problem is the OPEN bathroom.. no privacy when you are on the toilet whatsoever.. NOT SEXY. SO VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. final thought: UGH

Yelp
I loved my stay at Mama's. We were a family in a two bedroom unit. The little touches delighted us. Fruit and little nibbles were left for the traveler. Lovely dishes and items needed for cooking were pleasing. The suite had an old Hawaiian feel to it, not to cooky cutter new, and we so appreciated the private outdoor BBQ and dining area. We made mai tai's and wondered down to the beach on our first evening. There in lies the only problem we encountered, one has to go thru the restaurant reception area to and from the beach. The host was concerned that we were carrying drinks to and from the beach. I understand, but it seems this confusion needs correcting. The service offered was outstanding. I expect good service, but this was really outstanding. We will love to return.

Yelp
Over rated. Six years ago it was a real find, but the wait has gotten unreasonable and the food has been average for years. Great view though.

Yelp
It was like eating a dream. The location is gorgeous. The staff is friendly, and they must've had Jesus working back there or something because the Uku I ordered nearly brought a tear to my eye. The complimentary bread they bring you is so fresh and delicious, it's like chewing on a honey-wheat cloud. The medley of sauteed vegetables that came with my meal was amazing, with each different vegetable perfectly cooked - not mushy, not too firm, and the sauce. Oh, the sauce! Perfectly balanced with a little spice. Nothing I could ever put into words, however, can describe the dessert we had. I don't even remember what it was called. It doesn't matter. Some chocolate mousse pie on an Oreo, macadamia nut crust with a thick layer of caramel in between. Not that crappy goo you get in the middle of a Caramello (though, those are delicious), but legit, thick, pry-it-off-the-plate caramel. I can't. Dear god. There's no. It just. It will always. For all of time. Ever.

Yelp
Our little family of 3 stayed at Mama's Inn our last night on Maui and sure wish we'd booked more nights there! What a lovely little retreat, a cute cottage with it's own little garden and private yard - we loved it. :*) Dinner was just a few steps away (amazing! don't miss! our best meal on the whole island, and we stayed and ate at the Travaasa Hotel Hana before coming here), and the airport was a short drive the next morning. The staff were amazing, both when inquiring/booking and during our stay. Highly recommend you come and stay at least for a few nights before you leave paradise. :*)
