Google
Let me start off by praising the staff. The crew here is very friendly and inviting. The food here hits different. The quality is top notch and the portions are hefty. I had the pork plate and man the flavor and texture are on point. The macaroni salad was dope as well. For a drink I had a Mai Tai which was such a refreshing cocktail for a summer lunch. I highly recommend this establishment as well as the donut shop attached to the front. Bring your kids too as they will enjoy the decor and after you can take a stroll around Coronado and soak in the vibe.

Google
Pleasant dining experience all around for my family. Good menu options and variety, as you would expect for the type of cuisine. The pulled pork was good, the Mac salad was on point and the sweet sauce had some very nice spice to it. Kids meals are pretty straightforward. The pineapple vegetarian fried rice was awesome too. Recommend spot to visit, with pretty good staff. Pricing wasn't bad and the environment/atomospehere was cool.

Google
An awesome establishment too to bottom. Started with a nicely balanced spicy Margarita along with the savory volcano fries. Both were the level to add a little nuance and dimension without searing off any taste buds. Next I ordered the kalua pork plate, which along with being moist and flavorful, was a pretty hefty portion! Definitely a great value. Along with that, the hostess and the server were prompt and attentive. Will definitely come back!

Went for Brunch and it was amazing!! Lots of seating inside but there may be a wait if you go on a Saturday! We got lucky and didn’t have to wait long. All the food ordered was amazing!! The pancakes were fluffy and delicious! The chicken and churro waffles was cooked to perfection! And the locomoco was great! I loved the pulled pork sandwich and Mac salad! They had a full drink menu! With plenty of fun drinks to offer!! We got the mimosa and the espresso martini!

Google
The islander has a fun atmosphere. The food was hit and miss, but good overall. We really enjoyed the apps - the volcano fries, poke tacos, pupu platter and nachos. The chicken and shrimp tacos were bland, I wouldn’t recommend those. The other entrees - burger and pork dish were good.

Came here from out of state to visit this area and the experience was…weird. We walked in and saw their happy hour and thought it would be a good idea to swing on through. (Party of 4) The atmosphere is super chill which is what we wanted but other than that it was a very “meh” experience. The food was insanely overpriced and underwhelming to say the least. Maybe I’m jaded to good value & prices but this was not it. The happy hour taco I got (single beef taco) was literally something from Taco Bell but just a better shell. It never specified if it was crunchy or soft. When I asked what all came on it I got a little bit of sass from the server (maybe she misunderstood) but she said just the taco and that’s it. I re-asked my question and she said it was beef, cheese and lettuce. The beef wasn’t seasoned and very greasy. The taco itself was pretty small. $5 The kids meal had some basic beef slider burgers that didn’t look appetizing or appealing, the fries were good and it came with a tiny portion of fruit. Food was warm and not hot. $12 When they brought out the kids menu they forgot crayons multiple times and we had to finally go ask the hostess for some. The Volcano Fries came in a big bowl and the fries themselves were really good. Everyone liked the fries and that was $7 (which, IMO was a great value for portion size) fries are not spicy as advertised and came off more as sweet if anything. The Mai tai’s were super strong and amazing!! Especially for $8 they killed it. I think they should really stick to drinks because that is their niche. Food, as stated above was below average, underwhelming, misdescribed, and not anything to write home about.

Google
Food was deliciously amazing! Must try the Hula Bula Pie; Heaven on a plate. The staff were super friendly and attentive to your requests. The ambiance felt relaxed and inviting. Vegetarian options. Highly recommend coming here.

Google
Jason was a great waiter for his attention to detail and focus on customer satisfaction. The burger I ordered showed up cooked exactly as I asked, medium well. It was delicious. The only critique I could see anyone having of it is that it’s too ordinary. But that’s exactly how it’s described on the menu. It was a regular hamburger with some Hawaiian pork tossed in. The Mac salad was also rich, creamy, and filling. They keep the restaurant clean and appealing which I also appreciate.

Yelp
The food was so good. Came here for a quick lunch. Even with so many tables open they placed the three of us at a small high top. We started with volcano fries and crab Rangoon. The honey on the fries settled at the bottom and it was a little too sweet but overall it was a great starter. I got the poke tacos and absolutely delicious. I loved the taco shell that was so crunchy and the ahi tuna was so well seasoned. My husband got the pineapple fried rice and it's such a big portion. There was so many meat pieces that it's well worth your money!
google avatar

Yelp
unfortunately they changed their menu and discontinued the dishes I came to try. I was looking forward to it too. Anywho the dishes are mediocre... the crab Rangoon is my favorite here. The kalua pork didn't have the Hawaiian kalua taste lol... the Mac salad was a little bland... I really liked the crisp in the chicken wings. The fish & chips is your typical fish n chips Lol. Ambiance is comfy, friendly service although our server took awhile to assist us since it got busy and she was the only waitress around.

Yelp
The island theme is epitomized here, in a very commercialized way. BTW, beach shack and tropical vibe isn't Coronado, this restaurant is more reminiscent of the South Pacific or Hawaii. But nonetheless the dark interior and laid back environment was pleasant. Even with the laid back environment, the service was attentive and helpful. You can check out my 2 menu pics for the thematic food and drinks that are available. We started with the Volcano Fries. This dish starts with your basic fries, and goes up from there. As you can see from my pic, there are plenty of seasonings on the fries. But it's ALL about their sauces: Sriracha Aioli and Hot Honey. (BTW, the heat wasn't overly hot and didn't distract from the flavors.). Between the garlic, the sweet/heat action, the creaminess of the Aioli, these fries were very hard to stop munching on. While not a super-phenomenal appetizer, it was incredibly irresistible. We then finished with the Pineapple Fried Rice with Spam & Portuguese Sausage, see my pic. We liked the combination of the fried rice with the rich meats (yes, I classified Spam as a meat. This reminded me of some of the Hawaiian Spam dishes.) The seasoning was rather weak. But it still was a hearty and robust meal.

Yelp
How this place has 4 stars is beyond me. I came here with my parents and aunt and everyone was shocked at how awful this place was. Like my mom said, you wouldn't expect this from how it looked on the outside. Not only was the food super expensive. (Burger was $23) But all the food came out cold!! My dad eats anything and he didn't eat his food! They even saw his burger get placed on someone else's table and the guy said it wasn't his, and then the waiter just took it back and brought it to him so late and cold. The bathrooms, both men and women were extremely disgusting. It shows how much they take care of their place. My family had an awful time. I'm so sad they picked this place and weren't able to enjoy a good restaurant in San Diego. Do not come here. Anywhere else would have been better.

Yelp
Chill sports bar in Coronado. Super friendly staff. Several TVs. Reggae music in background. Incredible weather while hanging out with friends. Several fish and Mexican menu options. I had the chilaquiles and the poke tacos. Friends also ordered a California burger, fried chicken sandwich, and Kailua pork plate. All were good. Beer list filled with local beers. Street parking only. I'd recommend this place when in town.

Yelp
The Islander was a fun restaurant. Service was excellent and fast. Food was amazing! The Wagyu smash burger was juicy and delicious. The fries were very fresh. Fish and chips were also yummy. Portion size was huge! The drinks were also fun, but didn't care for the coconut mai tai. We also had the spiked mango lemonade and hibiscus margarita which were very good. Enjoy! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
The vibes, the food, the music... eating here feels like vacation. It truly transports you to a laidback tropical destination (I've never been to Hawaii so I can't compare it to there). It even slightly bothered me because our dining experience there made me wish I was on vacation, but it was only an average weekend Saturday . We had a warm and sunny Saturday for one of the first times in a while in San Diego, so my boyfriend and I decided to split a meal here and started off with the Big Trouble in Little Watermelon drink. Such a fun presentation and very refreshing. I'm obsessed with anything watermelon, however the tequila was a bit strong for my liking, but my boyfriend really loved it and said he could've ordered another all to himself. The Kalua Pork Sliders were tender and the perfect balance of tangy and sweet. My wish is that there were more... since there were only 3 we were fighting over the last one. The Ahi Poké was fresh and FILLING! I'll be the first to say that poke never really satisfies my hunger, but this portion size was actually perfect for 2. Every single ingredient in it just made it better, just total flavor burst in every bite. Last but definitely the star of the show... Hula Bula Pie. I have been dreaming about this since the first bite. Apparently it's made by their nextdoor neighbor (which the waitress actually let us know that The Islander owns them) MooTime! So you already know the ice cream is to die for. The salty of the macadamia nut ice cream in contrast with the Oreo crust and decadent fudge surrounding it set fireworks on my tastebuds. An absolute must! Especially now that the warmth is returning to SD. Will be back and cannot wait!

Yelp
Okay - a definite go-to for us in Coronado!! The classic Mai-Tai is greatttttt, as well as the other drinks. The bartenders are great to chat with and fun to sit at the bar. Now WHY did they take the wings off their menu !! They were fab... especially the chili oil ones. Hoping they bring them back. Overall a nice place, and they are pretty quick to get you your orders even when it's pretty busy.

Yelp
Ok first time here and it has a tiki vibe with a bar and tables and lots of TVs to watch sports. Now it was hot and they should have had the air on better than what it was . Flies were a problem once our food arrived but it was hot so what can you do. Food was good my only complaint would be if you give ketchup let the consumer know it's spicy and not just regular ketchup. They give you a glass pitcher of water for your table which was nice. Price seemed a little high but the area of town and near the bay it's understandable. I had fish n chips which was good and my son had a bacon smash burger . He usually eats all of his hamburgers but he said the bun was soggy so he only had less than half. Their lemonade is 8.00 and no free refills. But server was nice and place is clean. Parking is bad because there are so many shops. Not much else to say.

Yelp
Server Karen is exceptional. I hope she gets recognized for all her hard work. She is very kind and attentive.

Yelp
This place was so good, my coworkers and I wound up coming back multiple times! The vibe was very cool, very island-y. I loved the decor and the overall style. The service was great. The servers were all really friendly and offered suggestions on what to get. The food came in big portions and the presentation was perfect. Everyone really enjoyed their options. The drinks were strong, tasty and large. We, of course, had to do the big volcano bowl drink one night (dangerous!). 10/10 would come back if I was in town!
google avatar

Yelp
TL;DR: Relaxed vibe and decent food. Good service and pet-friendly. Came for a bite while walking the doggo and was pleasantly surprised with the food Ordered: - Hanalei Hippie - added tuna and it was definitely the move despite the upcharge. Fresh seafood on top of a bed of crisp greens. Not much more to ask for - Huli Huli Chicken - the chicken entree took a little longer (server let us know beforehand which we appreciated) but totally worth it. The skin was flavorful and crispy. Balanced out the juiciness of the chicken. The Mac salad was alright - wish it was a little more balanced (too sweet for me). All in all, a good meal and a huge plus that they're pet-friendly! Will definitely be back - cheers, Islander!

Yelp
Not gonna lie this place wasn't my first choice, the restaurant I wanted to go to had over an hour wait and your girl was hungry. We weren't going to be waiting that long. And it's not very often you stumble across a new restaurant in this area. So you know I had to give it a try! It's got a cute little tiki bar vibe which I'm a sucker for. I didn't have a cocktail this time but when the waitress passed by them they looked super cute and yummy (will definitely get one next time) hehe. Staff was super friendly and attentive. Food was freaking great! This place definitely has potential to be around for a while. I'll be a returning customer for sure. Keep up the great work! :)

Yelp
We stopped by here for a little "something-something" during our day in Coronado. Like my wife said, "best crab dip she had ever had" here at the Islander. The Crab Rangoon dip was outstanding and second to none. Also had the Stone Buenavista Salt and Lime Lager. It was ice cold and refreshing. Ambiance is obviously "island like" but would also say it's warm and welcoming. Great service from the bar was provided by Taylor. Recommend you sit at the bar if she is tending it. PS - We had the Hawaiian Poke too, just as good at the Crab Rangoon.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Came for a quick dinner before heading out to see the Coronado Christmas lights. The portion sizes are pretty generous. The Hulu Hulu chicken tasted more like bbq chicken, not the traditional Hawaiian bbq flavor. The poke bowl had good flavors. The garlic shrimp tacos were just ok, not too much garlic flavor, mostly just the cream sauce flavor.
google avatar

Lucy A.

Yelp
I sensed weird vibes the moment I walked there. I have been wanting to try the place for a while. My grilled fish tacos were awful. The fish was locking seasoning, and the slaw was unnecessarily sour. There was no balance in the overall balance in taste. I hate having to send the order back. I was not feeling that well, later nn in the day after eating a little bit of the fish. My drink did not make up for the deficiencies, and I did not even finish it. It just increased the sum on my bill. I don't think I will give the place another try. The service was ok, but I did not think it was genuine. The islander restaurant on my favorite island did not meet expectations or the island standards, in my opinion. I cut my losses and went to Henry's later. I gave extra star because the chair was very comfortable for the casual setting at the patio.
google avatar

Cydney M.

Yelp
THE SERVICE WAS GOOD ==================== I have decided I really need to stop listening to my husband when he has a food craving. He wanted some kind of fried chicken within walking distance and this place popped up. My husband ordered some kind of fried chicken tacos. I ended up with fish tacos. We weren't thrilled with either. Maybe trying to find a good restaurant on Coronado wasn't my best idea. We should have gone to Little Italy instead. The Islander was cute with lots of surfboards on the ceiling. It definitely has potential, but the food wasn't good.
google avatar

Marla H.

Yelp
My dogs and I are regulars at the Coronado Dog Beach on Sundays. For Mother's Day, I wanted something a little extra, so I googled Dog friendly places near by and found The Islander. My human son joined my dogs and I for the best lunch, ever!! I had the Poke Bowl, and it was honestly the best I've ever had! That goes for the Calamari-the absolute best. My son could not stop talking about it. The dogs loved the side of bacon I got for them, and they enjoyed sitting on the patio with us on a beautiful Sunny Day. The Islander offered free "Mom"-osas, but I declined. Nice to know that was an option;)
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Come here for the cool cocktails... and that's about it. Portions here are a bit on the meager side for the price you pay and service was slacking quite a bit on the day I was there (we had to go fetch our own water a few times). If you're visiting the Coronado I think the restaurant next door has a little more to offer but as a Tiki drink hunter, I do have to give my hats off for the unique Pineapple and Watermelon drinks, though they could definitely use a little more of a heavy hand ;)
google avatar

Dexter Z.

Yelp
Decent newer spot on the Coronado strip ! I think they are worth checking out ! It's a Hawaiian / reggae vibe with food that fits. Their menu isn't extremely deep but if you're looking for a lunch spot that's comfy and very chill it fits the bill. Service was on point as well ! Worth checking out if in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I was wondering and trying to find a place to eat. This little restaurant had a very appealing appearance and cute outdoor design. We were seated immediately and our server Jennifer greeted us with waters. She was very sweet and able to recommend the dishes she liked the most. We had mermaid water, the nachos, and the Baja ceviche. Everything was delicious and came in large portions. I wish the ceviche had a little more tomato and avocado, but other than that it was very tasty. The nachos are a very large person, and probably best shared between two people. Overall, we really enjoyed this restaurant and had a little feedback to give.
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
Surprisingly vibrant scene on a Wednesday night, with excellent live music. I enjoyed drinks and dinner. Cocktails were well mixed, creative. Purple old fashioned was my favorite. Shrimp tacos on point, good balance of spice, well cooked and plump shrimp. A lot of food. Beans and chips excellent also.
google avatar

Dan J.

Yelp
Service was excellent and drinks were really good but we weren't to keen on the food. My girlfriend ordered the pineapple fried rice and though the presentation was nice, it was very bland and lacking in flavor. I ordered the north shore garlic shrimp tacos and I was not impressed. Seemed like something I could make at home, and I don't cook - at all. Props to the bartender for making us some perfect drinks. If we're back in the area, we'll definitely pop in for a drink but will probably go elsewhere to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh man, if you want a restaurant with a tropical vibe, look no further than this spot. Right on Orange Ave in Coronado (close to MooTime Creamery) is this Hawaiian themed place. We sat at a high top table close to the bar and street and had great people watching views. Our waitress, Emily was fabulous and very friendly. There's a great happy hour menu. I had the kalua pork and it came with macaroni salad (tasted homemade) and rice. For me, that's a lot of carbs so it would have been nice to have a side salad instead of the rice. However, the pork was perfectly prepared and tasted great. The menu seemed a bit pricey but everything is nowadays. If the cost of some of the entrees could be lowered a bit, I'd give it 5 stars. Regardless, we really enjoyed our meal and the fun, relaxing vibe. Mahalo!
google avatar

Jay L.

Yelp
I love this place for happy hour. Very good mai tais and some nice food offerings. Planned to go yesterday but plans changed. New plan was to visit today...guess I waited one day too long. It's suddenly gone.

Yelp
Cool little spot right off the main drag. Bartenders super nice, cold beer! Stop by and have a drink or some food!
google avatar

Jared W.

Yelp
Great food, cool atmosphere, no complaints. Family of four, all had different dishes and we all shared because they all looked great. Short walk to the beach, good beer and non alcoholic drinks too if that's your thing. Excellent service.
google avatar

Anne G.

Yelp
Great Happy Hour on Coronado!! Mai Tai? Yes please! Fun tiki glass? Perfect! Cool Vibe? Shaka bra! Fun drinks, good pupus and live music = good times! So happy we found this spot. We will be back!
google avatar

Briana N.

Yelp
The restaurant has a very cute vibe. Trivia was happening while we were there and people were enjoying it! Packed house! The restaurant was short staffed while we were there and unfortunately it took 20 minutes for us to get greeted after sitting down and we did not get good service while sitting for our meal. However, while we sat at the bar to get a drink and wait for our reservation, the bartender was very attentive and friendly. The drinks were very good. When we got our food, it was very good and large portions.
google avatar

Joost B.

Yelp
It's been a little while since we were here. Food was good, drinks were great and service here was even better. When in Coronado we will definitely be back at The Islander. The place is a little bit Tiki and definitely Surfer / Island decor. Love this place for Coronado.
google avatar

Nayyirah F.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon for a quick lunch. The place was easy to find and right along the main strip. The service was great and we were seated quickly. The food did take a little long to come out as we were on a time crunch but we were able to eat and enjoy everything in time. I ordered the salmon and I absolutely loved it because my salmon wasn't overcooked it was just right. The place looked cool inside too and where we sat we were still close enough to enjoy the outside views and breeze.

Jadie B.

Yelp
FOOD AND DRINKS WERE AMAZING! They were pretty busy but our service was steady the whole time. We went to Coronado with zero places in mind and was so glad we stumbled across The Islander. If I lived closer to the area, I would be back in a heartbeat!
google avatar

Sissy L.

Yelp
Love the theme of this restaurant. Went on Mother's Day for brunch. Large portions for the kids menu can't complain there. Great customer service. Karen was a good server nice and attentive on a busy day.
google avatar

Marc W.

Yelp
I use a system for my reviews of no more than 5 Pros and 5 Cons. All reviews are candid and well-researched! Pros: **Food: An absolute surprise when you think of Tiki and/or Hawaiian food. It was fresh, delicious and unique in preparation. Standout dishes: The Pupu Platter(huge), Pineapple Froed Rice with different combinations--yummy! **Atmosphere: Fun, colorful, good music and great Surfer videos playing nonstop. **Service: So attentive and when we announced our allergies, they checked on them. Also great guidance on what are their best dishes to try--even the seaweed wrapped Spam. Cons: **Parking. Just wished they had Valet or easier parking.
google avatar

Lindsay D.

Yelp
Good happy hour specials. Came here today and ordered an $8 Mai Tai and a $9 Volcano fries no sesame seeds. Very friendly service cute interior. Like 18 beers on tap.
google avatar

Cathe A.

Yelp
Updated review: the Islander still gets it right! The service is impeccable, always attentive despite the busy weekend nights. Tonight we were lucky to have Yair serve us. He was kind, knowledgeable and was so attentive to not just our table but all the other tables he had. He didn't skip a beat. The food is consistently good. We had the pineapple fried rice, crunch chili chicken and pulled pork sandwich. All are highly recommended depending on your preferences and how hungry you are. The portions are plentiful so sharing is a must. Last but not least, save room for dessert! Their hula bula pie has MooTime ice cream and it is to die for! Better than all the other mud pies you've had. Check out this gem of a place on the Island and ask for Yair! Also they give military discounts so be sure to tell them before you check out.

Yelp
A cute little island themed restaurant! The service was decent for a Saturday night. The crab rangoon dip will have me coming back here!
google avatar

Melanie B.

Yelp
Fun little restaurant to experience!! Bang bang shrimp was good the Volcano fries not a fave unless you really like honey!!
google avatar

Camille C.

Yelp
Great selection of beers on tap. Tacos for $7. Just went here for a quick beer and apps and it was perfect. The service was great!
google avatar

Tanner B.

Yelp
Awesome food and drinks! Super cool atmosphere that plays live music on Wednesdays. The Manager Manny had some great recommendations and is an overall great guy to talk to. I always come to eat and drink at the bar and Karina and Eric are the absolute best at what they do. Always a good experience at The Islander!!
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
We stumbled in this restaurant one afternoon about a week after it opened, lucky us! We just wanted some drinks and a little snack and they really nailed it! We got a punch bowl to share (full disclosure I was immediately buzzed so the food review that follows might be a little skewed). But the hummus with vegetables and taro chips was like stunningly good? Everything about this combination was perfect, I wish I could buy this hummus at the store. Amazing. It's a cute place for a chill time on the beach, I'm not sure what more you could want.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
This place sucks, that's why they went out of business. Their food was sh.t way better places to eat in Coronado.
google avatar

Elijah C.

Yelp
Wonderful location obviously, and the design of the restaurant is rightly on-point. The service was amicable and swift for our large party of 9. The only trouble is the food could be better, and at this price point that's gonna cut it to a 4. It's definitely a fun and lively place, but food limiting the experience at a pricey restaurant will keep me from picking this place if I had a choice. Would come back if my friends wanted to, will have to try a different dish.

Yelp
While driving to visit Hotel Del Coronado I always see this restaurant called "THE ISLANDER". We finally decided to try it. We had: *PINEAPPLE FRIED RICE - Shiitake mushroom, red peppers, peas, edamame, tamari, spam, and Portuguese sausage. *GRILLED SKIRT STEAK - LO Mein Noodles, Broccoli, Napa cabbage, scallion, garlic, and huli glaze. *2 PUPU PLATTER, to share - Sticky Ribs, Aloha Chicken wings, Kalua pork sliders, and west pack Pork eggrolls. *KALUA PORK PLATE - Mac Salad, Steamed Rice, and Furikake. *UBE CHEESECAKE- Lilikoi Cremeux , Raspberry , Swiss Meringue *UBE OLD FASHIONED - Saserac Rye, Whiskey, Ube syrup, and Tiki Bitters. Our APPETIZER PUPU PLATER was all good. I tried the sticky Ribs, pork egg rolls , chicken wings, and those Pulled pork Sliders, I tried everything and it was all good. However, the Pineapple Fried rice that I got was a bit disappointing. When it came, the Rice was so Dark in color and I was thinking that it would be so Flavorful, but Suprisingly it tasted bland, so I just ate the meats that were on it. My Son's GRILLED SKIRT STEAK was good, the Steak was very Flavorful and tender, and the noodles too were also very flavorful. My Husband's Pulled Pork was good and so flavorful too . I really liked it, except for the Macaroni salad, it was not good, it needs more seasoning. My UBE OLD FASHIONED drink was okay, it was strong drink, the way I like it. My Son really likes the Dessert, UBE CHEESE CAKE, it has a really Strong Ube Flavor on it. The service was okay. JULIETTE our server was very attentive to what we might need, Even though the place is small, the Vibe is nice. The food was just okay, coz some are good and some were not.

Yelp
I had been looking forward to Blue Bridge Hospitality group's redesign of Leroy's Kitchen & Lounge to The Islander. The beach/tropical theme of the newly opened restaurant was enhanced with a collection of surfboards mounted on the ceiling, a bamboo bartop, and the presence of a tiki statue near the hostess stand. My visit occurred during the initial weekend of the soft opening. No tables were available, however there were several open chairs at the bar where I claimed a seat. The menu I had previewed on social media seemed promising with pupus, ceviches, salads, tacos, entrees, burgers/sandwiches, and desserts. Before ordering them, I inquired about the Sticky Ribs. The bartender responded that the ribs were served as a small rack. To my surprise, what arrived on the plate was six riblets that were coated with sweet chili BBQ and sesame seeds on a bed of slaw. For $18, this appetizer should have been a rack of full-size baby back ribs or at least meat on a set of long bones. I also ordered the Salt & Pepper Shrimp Roll which had toppings of pickled fresno chili, lime aioli, and scallions. Yet again, the description was ambiguous as I did not expect pieces of flash fried shrimp. The salt and pepper seasoning was not prominent, and the dry brioche roll could have used some mayonnaise. The product did not live up to a $23 price tag. The kitchen needs to reevaluate these two particular items and at minimum, provide a more succinct description and/or photos on the menu. While the service and ambiance were worthy of four stars, my food selections were nowhere near that level. Perhaps I chose poorly, but after tax and tip, the $50 tab was obscenely high for a subpar meal. My composite rating for The Islander was between two and a half and three stars.

Yelp
This rating is for breakfast and pleasant morning atmosphere. I have not had a chance to experience service but it was friendly at the counter. Coffee - cappuccino was smooth and velvety vs dark French roast. Enjoyed it very much. Breakfast sandwich is a great value brioche w egg and cheese (or bagel) for $5 and you can add bacon or sausage.. very tasty freshly made egg. Cheese may need upgrade from American to something a bit more cheesy - cheddar or provolone.. not complaining great taste and value. My new morning destination.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant in the heart of Coronado that is THE place to enjoy superb food, fabulous drinks and attentive service. This is a place for 2 to 20. Great atmosphere with a laid back vibe that will meet everyone's food desires while providing some of the freshest seafood on the Island. Did I mention the cocktails?! Full bar service with wizard mixologists and a drink menu that covers the rainbow of flavor. Mega drinks for 2 to 6. A Moscow mule cup that holds gallons of deliciousness. Wait...don't want you to think this some type of booze bar because it's not. This is a place where all ages can eat their favorite food, have an adult beverage or mock tail and leave satisfied. Oh yeah....craft beers on tap and a great wine selection. Went to their soft opening and all I can say is WOW. This has a menu with fresh poke, chicken, salads, daily caught fish, burgers, etc, etc something for everyone. Started dinner with fried shrimp and lumpia appetizers. Shrimp were crispy and not over cooked. Served lightly seasoned on a bed of cabbage with banana peppers. Loved the light dressing that let the shrimp be the star. Lumpia was served with lettuce wraps and mint with 2 dipping sauces. YEP. You read that right. Lettuce wraps and mint. Finally, a real restaurant that serves lumpia traditional style rather than just thrown on a plate. So good! Had the coconut seafood curry and poke tacos for the main courses. The absolute BEST food I've had in.the area. Expertly prepared by the California and TV superstar chef, the flavors were subtle and the seafood perfectly cooked. Each served with a generous helping of rice that was a meal unto itself. If you love curry..GET THIS. If you've never had curry...GET THIS. The poke tacos were so fresh that I could've eaten them all day. Amazing flavors from such a simple dish. Dessert was a heavenly slice of DA MOON PIE. big enough for 3 it was a dream of pineapple mousse, coconut sorbet, caramel, white chocolate and shortbread. Such an original dessert, perfect without being too sweet. So let's wrap this up: Cool vibe, original flavors, massive drink menu, opens for dinner earlier than all the other places (perfect pre show meal), rock star Chef and staff, attentive service, fun and exciting....all While LESS than other nearby restaurants! YES. YES YES. The Island is all that coupled with Island love. Best value for locals and visitors in all of Coronado. Look forward to seeing you there as I. Know I'll be back again and again.

Yelp
Came in for brunch and the food was delicious! Wasn't too packed but still had to wait an additional 10 minutes even if we had reservations but the food made up for it. The hostess must have forgotten about us when we had already said we had reservations as well and didn't bother to follow up on the status on our table. 4 stars because the food was good!

Yelp
Service was great provided by Atlee (loved her name), the ambiance was lowkey with good "Island" music, there's a bar in the middle but overall it had lots of room for groups, couples, or solo, but the food to me was just "ok" and wasn't really worth the amount we paid. We got the Crab Rangoon Dip (3.8/5) - just needed a little more "crab" but the wontons were cooked to perfection and I enjoyed the burnt cheese on top The appetizer nachos that could probably be an entree (4/5). Really enjoyed the "trash can" presentation it came out with, allows for more of the beans , cheese , and or meat to be on as many nachos as possible And lastly, the poke tacos (3/5) - I'm not sure what it was but it just didn't do it for me . Nothing against the establishment, I probably just wanted in the mood for it at the time. The lemonade is SUPER sweet too. Overall - I'd probably come back because of the service & to try some of their drinks, they had a 2 page menu of speciality drinks.
