The Jack London is a great small music venue right in the heart of downtown Portland. It's dark bluesey atmosphere adds to its vibe. With tables and room to dance it works for both people who like to stand and dance or sit down during the show. Food and drinks are available, nice bar right there , with bathrooms close by. The staff were friendly and helpful. I've been there many times, most recently seeing young guitar phenom Bella Ryan from the Bay area and her band.

Sam Marconett

Google
Had a great time seeing Steve Smith. The drinks were a little pricey and I would only go back if I could reserve a table, which you can. We were very lucky to get the last unreserved table at the back of the bar but we couldn’t see much because of the pillars running through the center of the room. The drinks were expensive and not great, but the sound was good and the staff was cool.

Billy Martin

Google
Underground jazz club that features the Mel Brown B3 Organ Group twice a month on Thursdays. Recommend reserving the 2-top table for front row seating. Music is great as is the staff. A Portland classic.

Google
This is a great place for live jazz. It’s downstairs from a pool hall and the setting is dark and intimate. I’d go back and snag a seat in the lounge area to the back. The only issue was the bar was short-staffed. He did the best he could considering the circumstances!

Google
Interesting venue in the downstairs of a pool hall. Kind of an old time vibe. They get some awesome jazz players. Didn't try the food. There are some unfortunately placed pillars that can block some views, but what can you do, right!?

Google
My first time at the Revue, Friday July 14th 2023, Masamba Diop, a Senegalese artist and virtuoso drummer. The establishment is charming, friendly security greeted us at the door to insure our security, we came into a large open space with pool tables and bar side activities, a winding wood path led us to the downstairs bar and quaint stage area. Where we were greeted and stamped by an accommodating handsome brother. I had a wonderful time, I will be back....oh and my friend was impressed with the drinks.

Awesome venue and good time!

Google
I came here for my first burlesque show. It was very fun. The main floor is spacious and big and there is a lot to do. The burlesque was in the basement and a lot smaller but regardless it was still fun and got quite entertained from it. I would absolutely come back again!

Yelp
Was here to watch my girlfriends band play. It's under Rialto pool hall has a nice ambiance I had no clue it was that big down there it's nice seeing everyone dress up and the drinks are fantastic. Only problem is it can get massively over crowded and then it starts to get stuffy. It be became hard to actually stay down there.

Yelp
Comfortable small jazz venue with really good sound and small tables without a minimum drink required per table. Just have to say the Ketel One espresso martinis are the bomb!

Yelp
This place was so much fun. Found it on the Portland app. Went to a cabaret. Downstairs is very much like a speakeasy. It was fun.

Yelp
Saw Ethan Iverson Trio here. Great venue, perfect size (not too big). it wasn't hit or stuffy as others experienced but then it's not summer at the moment and it wasn't too packed. Good sound and didn't need ear plugs as it was perfect listening volume.

Yelp
First time to the Jack London Revue in Portland Oregon and we were impressed! I just wish the venue had been full last night for trio subtonic who were outstanding! 3 trio amazing. Drummer last night kicking it! Grateful! We'll be back. Mary & Ned W.

Yelp
Loved it! Was in the area for a conference and liked the nostalgic vibe, was able to see and hear the live music from my table, they have a dance floor, and really liked the lighting. The food was good too.

Yelp
Great venue with some really great performers that come through. Mainly jazz which is what I really like. It is located downstairs from Realto's. Very cozy atmosphere which adds to the vibe. I was looking for a speakeasy type of place to go to and I found The Jack London Revue. Tickets are required and it's best to buy them in advance. Depending on who is performing will determine the price. I didn't notice a huge difference in seats and prices to be real honest. I mean, they are all decent seats it seems like. Drinks are good and average priced. They are generous! The service has always been great and it is a real treat to be able to come to a show here.

Yelp
Great venue and service was awesome! Love to go back for other shows. Parking nearby wasn't bad either!

Yelp
Great basement jazz club vibe. I wish there were more places like this in town. Great place to see live music.

Yelp
Nice venue but they sell tickets through TicketWeb which has very poor customer service. I bought tickets for a show in Sept 2021 and the show was cancelled. I received an email from TicketWeb stating I can use the tickets for a rescheduled show or get a refund. After a few months and no rescheduled show I asked for a refund at least 3 times over several months and never had a reply. I called the number on the JackLondon revue site and it was for TicketWeb and they say the have no phone support "at this time" and gave me a different email than their reply about the cancelled show. After 4 days they did reply stating I couldn't use the tickets for an upcoming show (12/2022) as the venue had changed, it hasn't, and could get a refund. Subsequent emails asking how they would refund me went unanswered. I went back to the JackLondon site and contacted them by the only way listed thru FB messenger. It stated they reply within one day. After writing my message and sending it they responded saying the don't answer DM's regularly and gave me a contact email. I sent a message to that address and received a quick reply that I was issued a refund. I have not seen it on my credit card statement but assume it was done. What a convoluted way to contact someone for a refund due to show cancellation! I bought tickets for the new show but wish they would use a different service and provide a way to contact them.

Yelp
The music was amazing, the drinks were stiff, and the food was damn good.

Yelp
this place is pretty cool. i don't mean temperature wise. no, there is no AC. no, it's not particularly well ventilated. i'm talking about the vibe. heard a great jazz band here. they got down. people were dancing. drinks were average. service was ok. it's all about the vibe here. if you like to dance, they make their own dance floor here.

Yelp
This place is unreal! True iconic Bar and Lounge. Here watching Mel Brown and the B3 organ group. Absolutely surreal!!

Yelp
Udderly magical vibe in this basement hot spot. For the latest jazz both local bands and those traveling thru, this is the place to go. Got in line at 8:15 which gave us plenty of time to secure a great table which we shared with some local jazz enthusiasts. The space is large but quite cozy. The staff is awesome and accommodating. The drinks were inventive, and had a generous boozy feel. Stayed for two sets and tried to keep awake for the Burlesque but opted for our Uber's instead. In all, a great night.

Yelp
$20 cover per person felt a bit steep ... until discovering that we had come at the end of a jazz set ... just in time for the burlesque show called the Jack London Burly-Q Revue. I have no idea what the cover is at other times. To find the Jack London Revue, enter the Rialto Bar at street level, then walk through the Rialto (towards the back-right) to find stairs down to the basement heralded by a sign for "The Jack London Bar." At the base of the steps, we ponied up the $40 (for 2) cover and headed inside to find refreshments and seats. Drinks are ordered at the bar. So, we did. You can order pub grub there, too, but we had just come from a late-night dinner. Besides, it's more of a bar than a place you'd probably want to eat at anyways. The cocktails were so so ... in fact my first one had no alcohol!! The bartender agreed and made me a new Irish Mule with Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey the second time. Meanwhile, my spouse sipped a pretty average House Bulleit Old Fashioned. For rounds two and three, we shifted to Fort George Vortex IPA on draft. As for the Burly-Q burlesque show, I guess it was good. I also guess I was drunk. I don't have to guess if that helped me appreciate the jokes and performances. Kudos to the hard working performers!

Yelp
The Jack London Review is a very nice, small, jazz club located in the basement of the Rialto. This makes it easy to miss, but missing it would be a mistake. It has its own bar and restrooms, so you can stay for the duration of a show without having to venture upstairs for anything. They very thoughtfully provide pitchers of ice water and glasses for self-service water, which the bartenders keep constantly refreshed. The PA system sounds good, and the volume levels are kept appropriate (for most performs, although some will blast your ears out, so it's a good idea to bring earplugs). Although it does not have its own private parking lot, there are two large parking garages right across the street, making parking and walking from the parking lot painless and easy.

Yelp
so if you do not know about this place it is actually in the basement of Rialto's which has absolutely no AC what so ever. Now the Jack London it's self does have AC however once you get a whole bunch of bodies in there it gets hella hot real quick. it was more of a mature crowd, no drama. the drinks were not that strong so take a flask In order for the promoter to keep throwing events he needs to ensure a good group of folks attend the shows... so since I support my people of color I got a couple of girls together and decided to check it out on Sunday night. We saw Liv Warfield she was actually Prince protégé. she was absolutely amazing. I will definitely come again but I'm not gonna lie...the summer would not be my thing it was too Flippin hot. And since they open up doors at 8 o'clock and there's not a ton of seating you might end up standing. so I would recommend going a good hour prior to the show to ensure you and your party get a seat. other than that you'll be walking around asking folks if you can join their table or standing the whole time!

Yelp
Been there many times and always get great service and wonderful music the ladies at the bar no there's stuff and the atmosphere is classy and groovy!

Yelp
Great place below the Rialto for live music and cabaret style shows. Good sound, lots of seating, plenty of room for dancing, perfect for any size party - intimate enough for a romantic date at a tiny table for two or bring all of your friends and gather round a table for 8. Top shelf drinks run around $9 - $12. Completely acceptable, rather ordinary, food is also available. As someone mentioned, the air down there is fairly stagnant. As the evening wore on, the venue filled, the band really got going and the temp began to rise, they could definitely make it a better experience with the addition of some overhead fans to move things around a bit. I don't know if they have airconditioning, if they don't I won't be attending any more shows until it cools down as the only reason I find acceptable to sweat at a night club is if I never sit down because I'm on my feet dancing the night away.

Yelp
Yes! Mel brown. Motown drummer and band. Really great. Not self absorbed or tip-driven Jazz. Just great talent doing their thing. Really pleasurable. . Honestly, Th Best pita bread I've ever eaten. The "Buffalo" wings were cooked to perfection. They burst with juicy flavor with the first bite. The pita was soft and gummy. I would recommend with high honors.

Yelp
This venue is one of my favorite venues and my favorite jazz venue along with the Bluewhale in Los Angeles. Why? 1. Fantastic, crisp, punchy, loud drums, deep and defined bass and great sound overall. No other place in Portland or Seattle sounds like this. And the sound seems good around the venue; based on the show I saw you don't need to sit in the front if you want it nice and loud. Only seen one show here but I think they have a consistent sound guy. This is by far the most important thing. 2. Good seat placement and sightlines. (Only wish there were more seats considering capacity, but it would be tough with the layout). 3. Overall good lighting, staff, music, layout etc. Space itself is not super exceptional but it is plenty nice for me and not distracting. My one complaint I have is that there was more annoying talking going on during parts of the performance than I am used to at other Jazz venues, including informal ones like the Bluewhale. It does look more like a bar than most so I guess it's understandable but I wish the venue would crack down on that more and let people know that they can go upstairs if they want to talk during a performance. Tip: Arrive AT LEAST 45min early for a sold-out show to get a good seat, based on my experience. If you are more than 2 people you might want to get there right around doors. I got there about 10-15 min after doors and snagged a great seat near the front but most every table already had a group at it.

Yelp
Jack London's is the way I envision jazz clubs of the 1940s and 1950s. I had a great time. Seats about 40 or so at tables plus the bar stool seating. I never had heard a Hammond B3 organ live so this capped something I've wanted to do for a while. The food is really good, you can get there at 6 or 6:30 and eat on the ground floor (Rialto's), of you can order the food from upstairs and eat during the show. I went to the Mel Brown band show, there every Thursday. He's a drummer who has played with the best of Motown, he's probably got 50 years worth of stories from his experiences. Online tickets $7 plus a $3.10 ticket charge. No drink minimum. It was a warm day, a little stuffy,. Ventilation is so-so once it fills up with bodies. They stamp your hand, so you can go to smoke or get some air, and re- enter.

Yelp
It was about that time, so I checked the Yelp app and found a Happy Hour at the Jack London Bar not too far from my hotel. Something easy, cheap and not too fancy - Jack London was exactly what I was in the mood for. Waiting for my guy to get off work, I decided to grab a drink and watch sports. I sat at the bar all by myself and was served by this awesome bartender. I wasn't sure of her name, but she had some awesome tattoos and a great personality. The Happy Hour cocktails are around $3.25 for a full pint pour of your favorite. They have a pretty good menu as well. Overall lively clientel, excellent bar service and a nice tall drink on the cheap. What's not to like?

Yelp
great atmosphere and great space! was visiting portland for the weekend and wanted to go to a jazz bar - so glad i found this one!

Yelp
Came for the music and stayed for the music! Fantastic service, great sound and atmosphere! Came here one other time and the music of the Mel Brown Trio and the venue was great. Tonight is the Neo Soul Sunday which is a weekly event and it was great but, eat before you come. Last time I was here I had the sysco© chicken strips. Thumbs all the way down. This time I tried the nachos thinking how can you screw up nachos but the cheese sauce was either prepared wrong or was just old re re reheated. Thick, broken and lacking even a flavor as basic as salt. They have full size pool tables upstairs at Rialto that I'm guessing are hourly rentals and that's pretty cool.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Had a chance to check out this venue for the first time the other night. Quick take-aways: Pros: excellent acoustics for the live music. Cons: per Gloria's review below, there was no AC and it was sweltering downstairs. I won't be returning until the fall when it cools down. A message to management: if for whatever reason you are adamantly against installing AC, you really should bring in more fans downstairs.

Yelp
I love Portland. I'm visiting on business and I've found my wound down from work spot... The Jack London Revue. Great music if you like jazz and burlesque! Chilled Portland peeps and I luv that! If you're ever in the PDX area, check it out.

Yelp
Great shows the two nights we went. Ok service by waitresses...but we are not busy drinkers. It's in a basement at the back of the pool hall. Sound is great! Nice job to the mixer and reinforcement chosen. Only drag is the dipsticks that can't stop talking....so sit closer to the front as it's like all music venues sometimes filled with people who need to talk less and listen more.
google avatar

Alysia M.

Yelp
This is a great little jazz bar. It's downstairs at the Rialto. The Mel Brown B3 group plays regularly on Thursday nights and they are fantastic. This is a great date night place and tickets are very inexpensive. They were $7 before the day of the event when they went up to $10. They have a full bar and eats downstairs.
google avatar

Yelp
Great jazz but: Too hot, stagnant air in the club, even with ceiling fans. Couldn't get a drink menu unless I begged at the bar and then it didn't have their beers. Guy at the bar seemed like he was doing me a favor to tell me what beers on tap he had. I asked for a waitress and was told to go the bar to find one. Finally got one to come to the table. We ordered beers, she asked if we wanted food, when we said no, she seemed like were 2nd class citizens. Finally when the waitress came back she said they were out of one of the beers we ordered. Too bad, great jazz, but that was it...
google avatar

Yelp
Great, laid back jazz club with room to dance. Best bartender in Portland, Sarah, who also sings with Mel Brown Group on Thursday night. Don't miss it! If you like Absinthe, be sure and order a Reanimator from Sarah!

Sharon C.

Yelp
I feel pretty screwed over by this club. My friends and I traveled out of town on bought tickets for a burlesque show on June 15th. When we arrived to pick up tickets at will call, the doorman informed us that the show was cancelled and had no idea of how to refund the tickets. After the ticket service investigated it turns out that an earlier show was cancelled that night and the later show still went on as scheduled. The club is refusing to refund the cost of our tickets for a mistake that a doorman made! I gave attended shows in all sizes of venues, but this is the most unprofessional experience I have ever had. Do not gamble with your money or your Saturday night on wether there will actually be a show!!!

Yelp
It's my new hang out love this place a meatloaf was super good. Nice to see Mel Brown jammin on the drums haven't seen him since the Jimmy Mac days

Yelp
I just discovered this Jazz bar and I'm sooooo stoked about it!!! It's a hidden gem You have to walk through a pool hall before you discover the stairs that take you down into a new dimension that is, The Jack London Revue! Its a time warp...It's got a speak easy vibe and great music is booked here on the regular. Do yourself a favor and check out this incredible Place!!
google avatar

Yelp
What a fun place! I had never even known the Jack London Bar existed until the other night. $6 to see a typical show and dance your booty off aint too bad! Walk down the mysterious stairs in the back of the Rialto and your transported to what reminds me of Old Vegas a bit. Dark room, high tables, couches, loungy vibe with some wacky paintings/drawings on the wall. Bar in the back yeilds some pretty cool bartenders that will make ya a stiff drink. The accoustics in the small place make for a loud evening. Come here to dance for sure! I also hear that they hold other events besides music here. Certainly recommend if looking for a bit out of the ordinary.

Yelp
On the Night that I was in attendance at The Jack London Revue over a Decade ago... the Music was being performed by Julian. He's the Leader of the Erotic City Prince Tribute group. He looks so much like Prince, as well. I showed up Early and was told by the friendly Staff at the Rialto Poolroom Bar & Cafe that the Event was Downstairs, and I was Early... Julian hadn't even Set Up some of his Music Gear yet. So,... I waited. The Show was Awesome! I don't remember ordering a drink, but maybe I had a Half Pineapple Half Cranberry Juice... like I said before.... I was Very Early. I wasn't able to stay for the Whole Set, because I wanted to get Home to my Darling Husband that Night. There was NO All night bus back then. I hardly EVER get Downtown now. But, for The Jack London Revue... on a Prince Night... I would Totally make the Trip again! I think I was there in the Summertime, because I wasn't really wearing a Jacket that Night. This Erotic City Prince Tribute Event was back in 2012. Oh, and at Night in Downtown Portland, Oregon the Night Air tends to get Crisp after about 10 PM. I remember that I was Cold as I headed back towards Public Transportation that Night.

Yelp
My friend and I went to Jack London's for Big Bang night on Monday! We loved it!! This will definitely be my new Monday night hangout!!!

Yelp
This is the jazz club that I was searching for years. It is located below a pool hall.(Rialto) Lighting is dim, tables comfortable and out standing jazz. We loved the band (Mel brown B 3)and the chemistry. Even on a Thursday evening the place was packed. Their transition from one song to another was magical.

Yelp
I love going to Jack London Square, it's like a little town within a big city. We always set up shop at plank eat good food, drink yummy cocktails, plY games and soak in all the positive vibes .

Yelp

Yelp
We love a good billiards hall. This place has great potential. We enjoyed this spot once...then we came back and it was 90 degrees in the bar, no straws for our drinks at $8 a shot for Jack, fruit flies everywhere, and in 2 hours not a single server came to our table. We drove down from Olympia just to be here...never again.

Yelp
I went to a jazz show last weekend at Jack London Revue it was awesome. When our group ordered dinner, the venue was out of soup. When asked if I would like to order something else it was explained that due to medical reasons nothing else really works for me. After about 20 minutes the waitress showed up at the table with a bowl of soup. It was a Hodge Podge melody containing ingredients from various menu items, the noodles from the mac and cheese, Pico de Gallo and black beans from the nachos, cabbage from their fish tacos. The broth watered down V8 with spices. It really worked well and was delicious. I'm so thankful for the staff for making it possible for me to enjoy dinner. What a great customer service that was really going above and beyond and I greatly appreciated it.

AL L.

Yelp
Great music great place!!!!! GET THE AC FIXED! Had to leave but didn't want to because it was too hot!
google avatar

Philip N.

Yelp
Please get it worked out so customers can buy tickets for future show at the venue and not have to do tickweb lame service fees. It's not that hard. Dantes knows how to do it. Also your beer selection is boring.

Mari Clem M.

Yelp
KITCHEN NEEDS HELP! If you are going to sell out the entire venue due to a performance. You better have enough kitchen staff! Waited for 2 in a half hours and still no food the performer was done singing. Not to mention the waitress who only serves people who sits right in front of the stage! HORRIBLE KITCHEN AND SERVERS!

Yelp
As I was wandering the streets of downtown Portland, I decided it was time for a cool, refreshing beverage or two. After pulling up the handy Yelp app and searching for the closest bars to where I was at, I quickly realized this was going to be the best option available. When you walk through the door, you get the feeling that this place has been here forever although without looking all run down and ready to be demolished. There is just a comfortable feel to the place which is most likely due to how big of a space it inhabits. Fortunately, I was just in time to enjoy the happy hour menu which was packed full of tasty bar food options and plenty of drink specials. I've been on a cider kick lately so I tried a couple different versions that they had available. As I was enjoying my soup and cider, I was able to enjoy several different sporting events on what seemed like hundreds of TV's covering just about every available wall and pillar. There was also pool tables, video games, and all the standard accouterments you might expect at a place like this.

Yelp
AWESOME venue! Jack London Bar, thank you for making Portland a cooler city. The Stumptown Stories and Authors in Pubs series are both steps in the right direction in terms of community building. Your bar can provide the perfect location for artists of any discipline to be able to present their work in a safe, supportive venue. The lighting, mood and audio all worked well together. Oh, and did I mention, it's free! Hearing powerful words from intelligent people who actually execute their ideas into projects is some kind of wonderful. It's engaging, exciting and titillating!

Yelp
I just came back from Proper Movement tonight. Did you know one of the DJs (Dirt Merchant) made 15 pounds of bacon? For everyone! It was pepper bacon and it was darn delicious. It was the good bacon too. None of that cheap, paper thin stuff. The Jack London Bar is a really cool basement bar under Rialto. I wasn't even really sure what to expect. One side of the wall is full of drawings and graffiti art. The ceiling is low. The room is dimly lit. Candles glow on every table. The bar has its own coolness going on and the bartender was on it. The all around effect makes for a really cool vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place. I frequent here on Wednesdays for Proper Movement DnB. Nice little basement bar with very dim lighting, okay sound and awesome bartenders. (I have yet to try any food, but I hear good things) Love it!

Yelp
Just got back from my first "Authors in Pubs" at the Jack London Bar in the basement of the Rialto. Cool place with a good energy. The Authors sharing their craft were ALL solid Wordsmiths, ranging from Dramatic offerings to Comedic. Each one captured the audience for themselves and they were well appreciated. Unfortunately, I had to run early and missed a few at the end, but I will come again. The event is scheduled for the first Monday of each month. Mark your calendar if you are a person of letters. As for the Facility and Staff, the place had an "At Home" feel and the Bartenders were both on top of things. They even put the NBA playoffs on a little TV they didn't even know was over the bar so I could watch the game having come early. I ordered a Prawn Cocktail and the "Seared" Ahi appetizers. The ONLY negative word I have to share is do NOT order the Ahi, fore it came in a unappetizing state of overdone I would describe as "Ugly Shades of Grey"!! Tough, unappealing, and in DESPERATE need of a BIG Ice Cream scoop of Wasabi to give the paltry slices some taste!!! Other than THAT, the place is great!! The favorite thing I came away with was the recognition by Mr. Johnathan Ems of how a Writer sometimes reaches a moment of epiphany as the writing takes on a life of its own and the wordsmith simply becomes a vessel for the story. Great thought. Love the ride...
