The 12 Best Steak Night Specials In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"The Jackalope is a semi-divey neighborhood bar on East Riverside, and a reliable place for great pub food any night of the week. But show up on Tuesday and you can get a 10-oz. strip steak with brussels sprouts and waffle fries. The cut is a little too thin to develop a serious crust, but this is also a steak that arrives on a small metal tray with two sides for $20, so we can’t complain too much. Pair it with a seasonal frozen cocktail for the full experience. The Deal: 10-oz. strip steak, brussels sprouts, and waffle fries for $20" - nicolai mccrary

"Kick things up a notch at the next stop. Located in the epicenter of Austin's answer to Bourbon Street, Dirty Sixth, the Jackalope is the spot to grab a burger, take a couple shots, get a picture on the huge Jackalope statue by the door, lose your friends, find them again, make some new ones, and then head on to the next bar. Google
Cool bar to stop and grab a beer at. They have beer pong and some fun claw machines! Won a rubber duck!

Google
Was here yesterday 7/31/25 around 5:00 pm. Bought 3 beers and got charged DOUBLE the price. I forgot to pick up my second receipt , I don’t know if the girl gave herself a bigger tip but this is NOT okay. This used to be one of my favorite spots until this happened. Will not be coming back . Don’t forget to keep your receipts & check your bank accounts. Thief

Google
The bar was going up on a Monday! It was my last night in Austin and I was debating on going to 6th street alone. I am so glad I went! As I walking down the strip, I heard people singing at the top of their lungs and I decided to see what this bar was about. You’re met with a huge Jackalope right in the middle. I immediately said I must take a photo of myself on it!! That night at the bar was a mixture of karaoke and music being played. Music was great and the vibes were immaculate in there!!!

Google
Great after concert place to hang out. Atmosphere and food was really good. Bartenders were super friendly as well.

Google
We were hungry. Ordered some snacks, no drinks. The snacks were ok… they were warm not hot, the mini corn dogs were not crispy. The atmosphere was better than the food. Friendly staff. As a dive bar, for drinks, it’s a good place to hang out with friends and dates

Google
This was the only spot in Austin that I was able to find my brand of beer (Pabst Blue Ribbon). The food was good, friendly service, and had an amazing young man playing acoustic versions of popular songs. He even took requests and killed it! If I were to imagine what a dive bar in Austin would be; it's the Jackalope.🤘😁🍺

Google
The Jackalope is… well… bad. The bartenders are not friendly, drinks not good, and the energy just feels off. There’s not a lot of dancing and the music is obnoxiously loud. The best part about the whole bar is the statue you can take photos on but that lasts about 30 seconds. There are a few games you can play but this bar is just such a miss in an area already built on the idea of a miss. There’s really not much more to say, would not recommend this bar at all.

Gregory Kuhn

Google
Jackelope was legit! I got the BEC with a smashed patty and the sweet potato tots. The sweet potato tots are insannnnnnely good! I could eat those all day! There are a lot of pics of naked chicks...could do without that personally....but...it's a bar I suppose. Service was excellent and the prices were really good. Make sure to take a pic on the giant Jackalope!
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
No complaints at all. The food was good and cheap, I had a smashburger. The drinks are cold and well made. I had a spicy marg and it was perfect. Just enough heat and not too sweet. They had a band while we were there, pretty low key and just right as a backdrop. Stop by if you're in the area and have a drink!! Don't forget to get a pic on the Jackalope!

Yelp
So this is one of your bars on dirty 6th st. So you can't expect it to be top notch but I will say that it is a fun bar and everyone in there is always very nice. And the food is just delicious food. If you want good french fries and a burger or chicken strips definitely hit this place up. Only thing I can complain about is the restrooms that they are very unkept and smelly. I love getting the pulled pork sandwich there with extra pickles and it comes on some kind of sweet bun that it's just amazing. You have to get the waffle fries with a side of Kasso. It just makes the day. My friend got lemon pepper chicken tenders and OMG it's the first time I tried them and they were delicious. They have a full bar so can make you anything you want and always have some kind of shot special. And this place is dog friendly, which is awesome.
google avatar

Kimberly F.

Yelp
We loved it there. The indoor/ outdoor situation was amazing. They had cornhole and cute swings. During the day they have misters to keep you cool too. We loved the jackalope you could sit on and take pictures with. Who doesn't love a good Instagram worthy photo opportunity? The food was great and the staff was engaging and so attentive.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Fun place to grab some drinks with friends. Pizza was delicious or maybe it was because I was influenced by alcohol. Not the cheapest bar around. 5 shots were $80. They were delicious tho. I'm pretty sure they add gratuity to your check so watch for that. Good bar with solid music.
google avatar

Eva M.

Yelp
If I was homeless I'd recycle everyday just for the mini corn dogs. Or be a lot lizard. Which ever comes first. George is cool. Definitely a great spot to be.

Yelp
Such a fun, most visit bar when visiting this area. Came into town for a bachelorette and just had the best time partying here. Service and drinks were fast and yummy.

Yelp
I checked out The Jackelope on a Monday night and while it was really chill there was still a decent showing of people hanging at the bar. The servers were really fun, personable & spunky as you would expect. And the food - it lives up to the hype! My burger was mouthwateringly juicy and the waffle fries can give Chick-fil-A a run for their money! While hanging out on the dirty 6th is not for the faint of heart and feels like KISS and Sesame Street blew up in a meth lab - it's still rich with culture, life and leaves you with no question as to why they say "Austin is keeping it weird!"

Bite M.

Yelp
Omg the BUGER was such a surprise. My BF and I came by to play some darks and have a drink before a show at Emos and the drinks were amazing. We decided to have a burger too so we wouldn't be hungry during the show. Usually bar burgers are okay but this one blew me away!!!! I will be coming every week
google avatar

Jason T.

Yelp
An Austin staple, stop for a drink and get a picture in the jackalope! Solid dive vibes and a good music selection.
google avatar

Yelp
Waffle fry nachos. Sub-par bar food but came out quickly and got the job done. Fun display of a rabbit out front that peaked our interest. Cheap prices of HH (4-7PM).
google avatar

Joseph S.

Yelp
When we arrived in Austin the Uber driver recommended this dive bar for their food. Can we say they did not disappoint! We did only order a burger and fries but they both were perfect. Also the drinks tasted to perfection and matched the service. To cap it off the bill was amazing as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Tony was amazing and so friendly!! Food was great and very quick to come out ! Highly recommend for a drink and food before hitting the bars !!

Yelp
Jackalope is always a good neighborhood hangout spot to either have a chill night or step it up a notch. This night for us was a chill night. They have pretty good food and are dog friendly. We played a game of Jenga outside with our dog and enjoyed a few drinks on a Monday night. If you don't know what you are going to have for dinner during the week I would recommend coming here to grab a bite to eat!
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
Loved this place so much we came back twice in a night! It was the music that got me. It makes you want to dance. Drinks were good. I didn't try any food but I've heard it's pretty good for a dive bar! Excited to visit again.

Selene R.

Yelp
3 bouncers asked us to leave when we just leaned against the jackalope... they misread the situation and made us leave for no reason. I do not recommend this bar at all, they are discriminatory.

Fridah C.

Yelp
They add a 20% gratuity with-out telling you. Ordered 2 drinks once and the tip was already included. Maybe it's just this bar in 6th street. The other bars I went to did not.
google avatar

Meanole M.

Yelp
Oooooh, weeeee, did this place have some amazing burgers and fries! We stopped here after a long night of drinking in serious need of food and hydration. I'm pretty sure someone told us earlier in the evening that Jackalope had good burgers. It's a great building, right on the 6th street strip. Great decoration throughout the bar. I only wish I'd taken more pictures. Service was fast and quick, but no frills. We chose a hi top right next to the bar and walked up to order. Our burgers and fries were ready in about 10 minutes or so. I'm not sure if it was the time, or the place, or just how desperately I needed to eat, but this was one of the best burgers I have ever had! I don't even remember what type of burger it was. I know it had bacon and cheese and lots of French fries. My wife chose a "healthier " type of burger. She thoroughly enjoyed hers as well. Anyway, we ate like it was our last meal on earth and walked the few blocks back to our hotel full and happy. If you are visiting Austin and want an incredible burger, stop in at the Jackalope. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Trevor the manager is a badass. Drinks are great and affordable. Energy and customer service was unmatched

Yelp
Very cool bar with an excellent vibe. Check it out if you are in Austin. The bartender was great and made the experience even better. There was an outdoor section in the back of the weather is nice. I didn't try any food.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm in town for a conference and I frequent this bar whenever I get a chance to visit Austin. Brandon, my bartender is ALWAYS amazing. He goes above and beyond what's expected of service at a casual bar. THANK YOU SO MUCH BRANDON!!
google avatar

Britta M.

Yelp
This bar is located on 6th street and is a solid stop to make on your bar crawl. The giant jackalope inside is very insta-friendly, they tell you to feel free to hop on and take a pic. Our bartender was really friendly and funny, and served us right away. He gave us a few suggestions, and we ordered drinks and a round of shots. They were all good and mid-priced. The only downfall was they didn't shake the pineapple chaser, so it was lukewarm. Overall, a solid and memorable bar experience!

Yelp
The Jackalope in downtown Austin. It was a blast great drinks and it attracted great people. The food was even good, including the drinks. I would go back for sure, pretty cool atmosphere as well. When I went I had done research and everything. There are other places to go to but, this was the best for a Sunday. I arrived just a bit before happy hour and enjoyed myself. I had the Jackalope burger and it was plenary to eat. With the toppings I didn't even need anything else. I usually get honey mustard and mayo, I didn't need it but, I did put mayo on it. There were plenty of pickles and the burger meat was tasty. I had a frozen margarita, the frozen was out after that and I switched to a hibiscus margarita. I know your thinking hibiscus flower, yea it was even pretty like the flower. I also had the huge Heldarado as well. Man let me tell you now have a few people would help you finish but it was good. It was just great company we had fun there I met a couple cool people there and it was rememberable. It's kind of what we are looking for when we go out to eat or something. The server was good even when they switched out for shifts, the only thing I will get you don't want us they could use a few more extra service. Great experience I definitely go back.
google avatar

Yelp
A great spot to grab a few drinks with friends while exploring 6th street. Dj on site playing hits and lots of room to dance, even a Jackalope in the middle of the dance floor to give a ride. The bartenders were very attentive and the drinks were strong and flavorful!
google avatar

Swetha S.

Yelp
It's your typical dive bar. Decent drinks, good crowd, good music. Didn't feel like it was worth the hype or the reviews. There were better ones out there on 6th street that were better. It mainly depends on the vibe you are looking for
google avatar

Karla D.

Yelp
Holy poo this is absolutely hand down, no questions asked my favorite bar in Austin! In fact it's in my top two. That's right, top two. I just love everything about this place. It's on Sixth and sure it gets the tourists in but it's definitely a hang out for regulars. Because we have family in Austin, we're here often. If it were in Pittsburgh it would definitely be one of my locals. The beer selection is fabulous and so are the prices. The crowd is cool and fun. The Mac and Cheese Burger is so freaking good and yummy and big! Definitely shared it with the boyfriend. My favorite cocktail is The Jezebel. It's tasty and refreshing. Dive bar personified!

Yelp
This place was really unique. Came here on a Sunday night. Sandwich was great. Place had a fun vibe and seemed like everyone knew each other. A cool stop to make in Austin.

Yelp
First place we went to when we got to Austin and I was not disappointed! This place is actually really cool. We heard the music outside while walking down 6th street and so I figured we should stop here first. Food/Drink- I had a whiskey sour and at first, there was way too much simple syrup and not enough whiskey so I asked that there please be more alcohol and after I asked, every drink I got was delicious! They make really good drinks and take your request in to consideration! I also got mild buffalo wings with the hot sauce on the side. The wings were really juicy and a great size! They weren't as crispy as I normally like but they weren't dry or anything and the sauce flavor was really good. If you like hot sauce, get the 2nd hottest because honestly, the mild even has a kick but is really good. Customer Service/Atmosphere - They have really good customer service here. The bartender was really nice and everyone seemed pretty happy/chill. We didn't have to wait long for drinks and the fact that they added more whisky to my drink upon request, was great. When we were leaving, I accidentally left my phone at the table and one of the bartenders actually chased us to get me my phone back which I thought was awesome and I was super thankful for that. It's a super low key vibe here with good music that's pretty loud, so it's fun to get up and dance to. I would definitely come back here and it was a great introduction to 6th Street
google avatar

Sam W.

Yelp
I'll start by saying we did not go when it was busy or popping. People pride this place on the music it seems, which we didn't experience. The drinks were good, the staff was nice, and the food was alright...
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Another good-not-great dive bar on 6th Street. The bartender was awesome and the vibe is pretty cool. Just here for beers but they seem to have a good cocktail menu.
google avatar

Gabriel P.

Yelp
A friend came from California to 6th street and this is one of the places that I took him to. The drinks and music were good, but it was really crowded. Other than that we had a great time. Don't forget to get a picture on the Jackalope!
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Austin!! I LOVE THE JACKALOPE!! Super chill friendly vibe! I found them from triple D(Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives). The drinks and food was really good! The bartenders Nico and Sarah were the best! They were super fun and nice! They made great cocktails. Highly recommend The Jackalope to wet your whistle or grab a bite to eat!
google avatar

laura b.

Yelp
It's listed as a dive bar and that's what it is. Good sized space, friendly service, complete with Jackalope photo opportunity. I hear the burgers are good but I did not try them.
google avatar

Darren C.

Yelp
The jackalope is a major tourist destination but also a major force in the local scene. Their jukebox rules and where else can you get drinks from a metal legend like Robert Coleman (Goatwhore, Black Horse Of Famine).
google avatar

Damian B.

Yelp
We're from out of town and stopped in Friday night before a concert at the ACL. We sat at the bar and the young lady with the Bart Simpson/Misfits logo tattoo was super awesome, helpful and funny! Great chatting with her and really great service. We ordered a couple slices of pizza from the pizza shop and after a few moments the young man with dreadlocks approached us and apologized. He burnt the pizza! No big deal we said. We have plenty of booze! Plus we work in service and know that shit happens! A few minutes later, the gentleman returned with the pizza and it was even better than expected! He really went the extra mile and took super awesome care of us. Love Love Loved the pizza. Loved the Jackalope and had a blast. Really liked everyone we meet there and would go again on the next trip to Austin! Thanks guys for going above and beyond. Damn. Now I'm craving pizza again!!!
google avatar

Gillian W.

Yelp
Come on who doesn't love this place? I love coming here when I'm downtown and to/from the airport, always love getting on the jackalope and taking a pic. The menu is limited now, but still good. I love the atmosphere and who you meet here. You never know, you might just find a life long friend. Staff is fun, personable and friendly. Always a regular stop for us when we can! Stop in if you haven't.
google avatar

Leila R.

Yelp
Because I tend to avoid Dirty 6th like the tourist, frat, "woo girl" infested plague that it is, it was no surprise that I had never been to the Jackalope before. But, on a very lovely Sunday afternoon and after several previously consumed drinks, I was talked into going here. I have to say, after my experience (and for the huge, mountable jackalope alone) I would make this place an exception to the my "I don't do Dirty" rule and come back (on a Sunday afternoon). The drinks here are not the overpriced watered down BS that are the standard on D6, but were actually perfectly boozy! The crowd was also not just the D6 usual suspects, but a nice mix of tourists and locals as well. And though there were games on the tvs, and people were talking and laughing, it was still pretty chill enough to have an actual conversation. But, this might just be the fact that it was a Sunday afternoon...I am not quite sure. What made it such a great intro and experience, though, was hands-down the bartender, Riley! Aside from being absolutely adorable, this guy knows his stuff and has a stiff pour! So the next time I am in the vicinity and I see Riley behind the bar, I will definitely pop back in to reclaim a seat on the Jackalope throne.

Cassandra R.

Yelp
First time going go 6th street, stopped here for a couple drinks guys in front should do better at checking people if they know them they let them walk right in and not ID or pat down. Drinks could be better, music was good though. Will be back next trip.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Pretty good burger on Sixth St! The place is a fun bar at night, with a big Jackalope Statue you can climb up onto. However, I also came earlier in the night to grab a bite. I had a bacon and Brie burger, but I substituted the patty for an impossible patty. There was plenty of cheese and lots of pickles on it.

Kim B.

Yelp
Such a cool atmosphere, and the bartender was super nice. It was my first time in the city, and they had such an extensive unique shot menu, there were different options for rims(i.e fruity pebbles). It had that dive bar feel, but a still had a nice mixture of tourism
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
My go-to bar if I'm ever out on east 6th. Divey vibe and chill place to grab a drink during the day. At night it's more lively. They host events sometimes. There is a second bar up the stairs straight ahead from the entrance. I also appreciate the emo and rock music they play. Brings me back to the mid 2000's when wearing side bangs and a bow in my hair was a thing.
google avatar

Karina U.

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say. Steve the bartender is nothing short of awesome and their burgers are giant and delicious! So are their waffle fries. I love their fairly large selection of cider as well. Must visit!
google avatar

Kristina I.

Yelp
Honey jalapeño burger was very tasty - a bit greasiest than I would have liked but definitely tasty. My sister got the chipotle bacon burger and it was tasty and less greasy. Sweet potato tater tots were yummy, but i can't figure out how the ghost chili aioli complimented them. Definitely was not a fan of that. The service was great. Our serve was super attentive.

Torrie W.

Yelp
homeboy in the French braids is a douche bag, if he was more polite and nice he could probably earn a bigger tip(coming from the industry) , just because a male is ordering a shot you've never heard of doesn't mean you yell "this is a dive bar" LOL listen to the four ingredients & make it and you could probably earn a fat tip. Do NOT recommend coming here, we ordered 3 Rumplemintz instead which cost $45, he gave us 4, and took a shot for himself which he probably charged us for, we chose rumple bc it was probably something his rookie ass could handle because he sucks under pressure with a crowd. Won't be coming back!!
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
Great food, great people, GREAT STUFF! Stopped here first after arriving in ATX with a free afternoon. The beer selection is great, even after they told us they were out of some of the Pale Ales, it was easy to find something else. Towards the end of the wild part of 6th- this place was recommended to me by a coworker who used to live in the area. We even came back after spending time downtown for pizza to bring back to the hotel! While we were there I picked out some awesome local cider, Eastciders- not too sweet and dangerously easy to drink! They also had a blood orange flavor which was delicious as well. Ordered the mild wings, since they didn't have medium but damn the mild has a kick!!! I recommend mild to those who usually order medium because they are not shy!! Delicious wings, the burgers are unique and yummy too! Don't forget to take a photo on the Jackalope!

Yelp
IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE ZERO STARS - I WOULD. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE TRYING TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. We came here during a BACHELORETTE. I understand circumstances are weird due to COVID-19. I get that. We ALL get that. We are in Austin visiting for our best friends bachelorette and on our second night here we decided to take the advice from our waiter at Caroline's and go to The Jackalope. We went there at 9pm just to check it out and our bartender, Bart, gave us complimentary drinks. We were so thankful, we paid for the giant mixed drink and went next door for a few hours and then went back to The Jackalope because the bride requested it. We sat down for 20 minutes even ordered some drinks (which they never brought) and they were playing the jams -- so naturally we started dancing around our table. Even the other bartender, Dimitrius, was hitting on one of our bridesmaids HEAVILY and hanging around with us while we were dancing - not even one whole song went by before Dimitrius told us we couldn't be dancing and that we needed to be in our seats. We said okay, that sucks but sure. So we sat down and made sure our butts where planted -- next thing you know some random came up to us and started twerking at our table then on jumped on the couch and started twerking and spreading her legs in the air. Again - SHE WAS NOT WITH US. None of us even knew who she was. Immediately, some angry bartender (that clearly needs to get laid) with a ponytail ran over to us being loud and demanding that WE get out meanwhile Twerker conveniently slinks on back to her table I can understand if we were the ones doing THAT and you wanted to kick us out - FINE. But that was not the case. No one wanted to even hear us out, one of our bridesmaids does not drink and she was very civil in trying to explain to Ponytail Bartender but he literally was non-stop raising his voice to us. He even yells at Bart to come over - and this fool just straight up decides to "go with his boys on this one" and preceded to gesture us to get out Ponytail could not WAIT to kick us out, let me tell you. Like there's some underlying issues there He yelled at us saying "You're not even ordering drinks! You're not even ordering food!!!" NOPE. Wrong again, Ponytail. We DID order food and drinks but your stubborn hating ass didn't accommodate us Meanwhile Twerker (aka THE PROBLEM) is still running rampant inside the bar Also, the pink haired lady was GOD AWFUL. Not helpful whatsoever. Bart you were the biggest disappointment, and Ponytail -- you just suck. Thank you for ending our night horribly and giving us a HORRIBLE first trip experience. I do not recommend this place whatsoever for anyone who is looking to actually have a good time.

Yelp
The chipotle bacon cheeseburger was DELICIOUS! The side of fries were really good with generous portion that can be shared between two people. Things that could use improvements: 1.Better options for happy hour drinks 2. The bar stools are so damn short for the height of the bar. I initially came and sat at the bar and moved because it was way too high to eat there. Please get taller stools. 3. The service for how empty the restaurant was, was not great.

Yelp
I always have had a really good time at Jackalope downtown. I thought the one on the east riverside would be same vibes as the downtown location but with the east riverside location being across The Buzz Mill, I would say the downtown Jackalope is your best bet for quality people and safe experiences. The east side location could be cool, you just never know who is going to come in from these two bars. I've always felt less preyed on at sixth street than their east riverside location paired with The Buzz Mill.

Yelp
This spot is a great spot to watch any sporting games that are one. When we got there we were watching the sugar bowl with a bunch of longhorns fans around. The bartenders are fun and drink with the customers. As for as the food, I would recommend the French fries which are super good. The chicken tenders are so so. I would definitely want to go back.

Yelp
Must stop for any tourist or local to take quick picture sitting on the giant jackalope! Try their famous giant margarita that is shareable among your friends, be aware that is it extra large!! They also have video games and darts, perfect for when you're feeling extra feisty and competitive among friends or a special someone!
