Where To Find The Best Pop-up Restaurants - Chicago - The Infatuation

"If you've ever wondered what the lovechild of a burger and jibarito would taste like, quit wondering and just head to Smash Jibarito. This resident pop-up, located inside Wicker Park's Desert Hawk, specializes in pressed patties sandwiched between fried plantains. Each burger gets a sweetness from the plantain pucks—our favorite is the Estilo Animal, with animal sauce, sweet pickles, and american cheese for a little saltiness. It goes well with a ranch water highball while hanging out in Desert Hawk’s dark wooden space or front patio." - john ringor

The Best Jibaritos In Chicago

"After outgrowing their extremely popular food truck The Jibarito Stop opened a brick and mortar in Pilsen in 2015. Their specialty, the jibarito, comes in four varieties: steak, slow-roasted lechón, vegetarian, and vegan. Their jibaritos also come in convenient half sizes, so you can try as many as possible. The woman-owned business also serves piñon, a sweet and savory Puerto Rican-style casserole, vegan potato salad, vegan beans, and a brightly flavored mango coconut salad topped with cilantro and tamarind dressing. The seating at the front of the restaurant gives you a raised view of the 18th street “L” that elevates (pun intended) the whole dining experience. " - jessica rome

The Best Takeout I Ate This Month, When I Could Only Eat Takeout

"Pork Jibarito Plate Usually, I go to Humboldt Park to satisfy my jibarito craving. But Jibarito Stop (which started out as a food truck and is woman-owned), set up shop right in the heart of Pilsen and is making some seriously delicious jibaritos. I like ordering the pork with arroz con gandules and a Champagne kola, but they also have great dinner plates, like stewed black beans or empanadas." - courtney sprewer

The food was delicious. It was hot. It was tasty. The empanadas are on point. they are very busy on Friday afternoon around lunch hours so it might take a long time for your food to come, but it's worth the wait.

Google
Oh wow, The Jibarito Stop is one stop I would make on a weekly basis! The food her on par with any Puerto Rican shop in the city! Quality is definitely what TJS is known for in my book! The service on the other hand was pretty slow but, the quality of the food made up for that. The atmosphere made me think about being in an island space. If you wanna make that stop make it to The Jibarito Stop!

First time trying there food, worst experience ever gave me old food everything tasted like it had been sitting for at least a whole day the lettuce was black and moldy including the avocado will never eat here again . Tostones were drenched in oil and supper soggy.

This has been my spot for years. Never went wrong with the jibarito de asada con arroz amarillo y un bebida de parcha. They fill the bad boys up with the perfect balance of meat, cheese, ajo, mayo, tomate y lechuga. Politely ask for extra napkins if you're eating on the go, it can get messy 😉

I had a Jibarito with rice. It was delicious and reasonably priced. I loved it. The portion size was good. Great value for money. The wait time was around 15-20 mins.

Google
This has been one of my FAVORITE Puerto Rican restaurants for YEARS, but recently they added a VEGAN MENU!!!! Yes - VEGAN PUERTO RICAN FOOD and it’s SO GOOD!!! Since I don’t eat pork or beef, I tend to miss out on some of my Puerto Rican foods that I used to love but what they offer?!? I forgot that I wasn’t eating meat! The STK Mofongo was heavenly! Those plantain mash with all the flavors and seasonings, all the garlic - my goodness!!!! The vegan appetizers were super good too!!! The empanada was my favorite- cheese, sweet plantains and “beef.” I could eat a whole basket of them! And of course I had to get a chicken jibarito bc it’s one of my favorite foods! Their chicken is so well seasoned and moist! If you want AUTHENTIC Puerto Rican food with some CRAZY GOOD VEGAN PUERTO RICAN FOOD options - get here and tell em that Bri from Planes and Plates sent you!

Google
It was delish. I have tried many Puerto Rican restaurants in the Chicago area even the northwest Indiana area. The food was extremely good and at a decent price. Did not break the bank coming here

Google
Amazing. Brought my girlfriend who was born in and spent the first 25 years of her life in Puerto Rico, and she said this is some of the best Puerto Rican food she's ever had, including in Puerto Rico. We both got jibaritos with pork, arroz con gandules, and an alcapurria. The pork was SO tender and juicy, and the combo of sauces and ingredients in the jibaritos, along with the plantains, are just perfect. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Ever heard of a jibarito, much less had one? I had never heard of them and was unfamiliar with Puerto Rican food until the Chicago Redditors suggested tourists try it out. Boy, did the hype not disappoint at The Jibarito Stop. LOGISTICS As a tourist staying downtown near Millennium Park, this was easy to get to via the Pink Loop CTA line. The shop is super close to the stop and they have a good amount of seating indoors, though larger groups may struggle with getting seats together. You order at the front, but they will bring your food to the table. Drinking water is available for free. FOOD True to its name... they have Jibaritos here, which are Puerto Rican sandwiches where fried plantain are used instead of bread with a protein choice. The name also seems specific to Chicago as they are not part of typical Puerto Rican cuisine, but nonetheless they are DELICIOUS. All Jibarito options come with the choice of rice (red beans and rice or yellow rice). They also come in a "full" and "half size"... if I'm being honest the "full size" is really just two separate "half size" sandwiches. A half sandwich is plenty with a lot of protein. If you can share with someone else and order a "full" jibarito, it should still come as 2 separate sandwiches and then you have room to try another time in the menu. Steak Jibarito (Full Portion) w/ Yellow Rice: This was my favorite thing I ate during my Chicago visit, it was a good balance of sweet and savory. The steak is thinly sliced, not too chewy, and goes well with the creamy garlic sauce they put on it. The greens also made it refreshing. The plantains are also thin with a little crisp and chew and add a little bit of sweetness. However you need to really grab onto the sandwich with both hands to ensure it doesn't fall apart. Yellow rice was also really good with some beans in it for extra protein. I think it's cooked with a broth since it was flavorful on its own. Fritter Sampler: This was a great mix of fried goodies to taste. First the dough on the empanadas was light and crisp in texture. Fillings were generous on all of them - very flavorful with a variety of spices. My favorite was the shrimp one that had a bit of kick, and I think it was filled with either pumpkin/squash or a potato? Although it came with one of each, every fritter was really big and easily shareable between 2 people. I struggled to finish my half, especially with that large potato ball filled ground beef. Fritters also came with 2 sauces... an orange-ish spicy sauce and cilanto cirtus salsa that was delicious. Be sure to pour them onto the fritters as you eat them! OVERALL Great food for the price and portions! My partner and I were stuffed between the fritter sampler and full size portion of Jibarito. I am really happy I ventured out of the main downtown area to check this place out. As a tourist and first timer when it came to Puerto Rican food... this place was amazing! Jibaritos have become my new food obsession and I will be planning on coming back for more next time I'm in Chicago. Skip the hot dogs and pizzas, do not sleep on Puerto Rican food and The Jibarito Stop delivers on flavor!

Yelp
usually not a fan of jibaritos but i was willing to give it a second chance, and it did not disappoint! i got the vegan jibarito and the filling had so much flavor and was extremely delicious, it was really rich and the sauce on it was so good, i dont know what was in it but it was really creamy and flavorful. the plantain was hard which is something i was hoping for, instead it as sturdy enough to hold the fillings together but not too hard to chew. it doesn't really reheat well so i'd probably get a half instead of full one next time. i also tried the arroz con gandules from a friend's plate and it was really flavorful plus not too salty and tastes just right. additionally the white rice i was given was not plain! it was slightly seasoned so it was a step above plain rice. finally we had the parcha, which was the perfect sweetness, although i wish it was a little more tart! although you have to order at the front before sitting down, they do bring your food to your table and we're super kind. the store itself is pretty small but it seems like they mainly get delivery orders so there is likely always a place to sit.

Yelp
my first time ever trying puerto rican food, specifically JIBARITOS, and it did not disappoint!!!! i was researching what kind of food to try in chicago during our weekend there and saw a lot of people recommend jibaritos. we also went to sky deck and saw that jibaritos were basically born here and obviously after seeing a picture of it and seeing that it was a sandwich that uses flattened crispy plantains as buns (note: i LOVE plantains....) so i HAD to try it THAT DAY LOL we decided to go to the jibarito stop because it was in the area that we were exploring that day and i had heard good things about this place (unfortunately the other place ppl recommended was too out of the way) but thats okay because this place was DELICIOUS and i loved that they offered a half portion of the sandwich which was the perfect size for me (and so i could try other things like the yucca fries i see people rave about lol) there was plenty of street parking when we got there and there was a good deal of people already eating there. we ordered on the ordering tablet they have (but you can also order at the register) and you get a number for your table for them to deliver the food to you we got the steak jibarito, pulled pork plate with plantains, and yucca fries and everything was delicious!! the food didnt take too long to come out and we got to sit on their patio on such a beautiful day which made it all the more better. my steak jibarito came with rice (i chose the yellow one) and i opted for no mayo on mine but it was still amazing! it comes with a lot of sliced beef and the plantains maintained their crispiness the entire time i was eating the sandwich. the lettuce and tomato also offered a nice refreshing crisp which i always appreciate in a sandwich. they also spread a bit of garlic on top which really took it to another level. this was also my first time trying puerto rican rice and it was good!! well seasoned & cooked and had some veggies in it which was nice. my bf got the pulled pork plate and thought it was good but A LOT of food. he said the pork was a bit dry but it was still pretty good. he wishes he also got the jibarito though after seeing it and getting a little taste of mine hahah the yucca fries were already really good!! they were super duper crispy and fantastic with the garlic oil and sauce that came with it. there were some strands of yucca that were difficult to eat and i wouldve liked it to be cooked slightly longer so the insides are softer & more pillowy but it was still a great first time trying it! overall 10/10!!!! i love jibaritos so much, they might be one of my favorite foods along with tacos now. so now i have to find a place to rival that of chicago's in la!

Yelp
4.5 stars. This space has tons of character that a taco bell does not even contemplate on a wet dream(see pics). Let's start with the great tasting rice infused with the broth it was boiled in - excellent! The guava drink is both sweet and not sour with the guava flavor coming out just right. As for the Jibarito, it's like a premium burger because it's steak vs ground beef but I've had better(thus the 4.5 stars). The plantain(as opposed to bread) means you can eat without feeling guilty. Portions here are large with a real chill staff. Overall a great value proposition.

Yelp
I have passed Jibarito Stop many times, but thanks to Yelp, I was suggested to try it out. It was a nice day so we decided to eat outside and sit in the umbrella-seated area. The waitstaff checked on us frequently and was accommodating. I would say the person taking the order was a bit dry in his attitude and kinda reminded us throughout the entire experience. The food was okay. I got the steak Jibarito with beef and chicken empanadas which were okay. My sister got an empanadas basket with beans, white rice, and a side of plantains. I washed it down with coffee, which was okay. Overall, it was okay. Not the best but also not bad at all. If you're in the area and looking for empanadas, it's not a bad choice. Rating: 3 out of 5

Yelp
The food here seems to always be good. Short line, place order and grab a table number. Super efficient. I'm honest I have limited my options of trying here only because the roast pork was my first love. So I think outside of that I've only tried the empanadas. Good good good. Give 'em a try.

Yelp
Fantastic Puerto Rican place that offers flavors new to my American palate! This was the pork stew. I love the cheese beef bake. I also recommend the chicken rice and of course the jibaritos!

Yelp
The Jibarito Stop is AH-MAZING! Get to this place pronto if you want delicious authentic Puerto Rican food! I had their steak jibarito which was PHENOMENAL! Also enjoyed their fritter place with all their empanadas, their relleno was outstanding! This cute little spot is intimate, but has a decent amount of seating if you would like to dine in. The service was great, I was greeted with a smile and my food came out relatively quickly! Definitely would highly recommend!

Yelp
Food always tastes great. Wish they would redo their entrance steps...that top stair is kinda hard for someone with leg issues. Also after receiving my order, leaving the spot and 1/2 way down the block the order taker/preparer told me I forgot something...hmm I got my keys, wallet, jewelry...what did I forget??? They forgot to give me my beans for the rice. I forgot that....shows u service is in the decline plus I was asked if I wanted silverware...after paying $53 and tipping u guys I better...may have to relax on coming here for a bit.

Rina B.

Yelp
absolutely the works experience of takeout order! The rice was extremely slushy with lots of oil. The rice was not prepared like you're typical Puerto Rican rice and pigeon peas. Was extremely disappointed also that my vegetarian Alcaprrica was raw and uncooked inside. The food is inconsistent, especially ordering late in the evening. Extremely disappointed spend close to $100 and had a terrible experience with the food. I've ordered here before in the past and not sure what's going on with their quality of their.

Yelp
Customer service was excellent and the food was outstanding. The staff, food and dining area are worthy of 5 Plus Star Rating. The Jibarito Stop is Cool and Relaxed! The Chicken Mofongo and Beef Mofongo were Very Good!!!!!!!

Yelp
OMG where do I begin? I felt like I was back in NJ at this mom & pop restaurant that is own by papi and abuela!! I ordered the steak n onion plate with sweet plantains. Also the Surrullitos De Queso Fritter. Let's just say, I was cussing at the 1st bite of the fritters, CAUSE they were sooooo good!! My sister order Bacalaito (Cod fish fritter). OMG the flavors from all the food dances among my taste buds doing Merengue, Salsa, Bomba all at once, AND I LOVED IT!!! You would do yourself a favor by stopping in to enjoy this AUTHENTIC CUISINE OF PUERTO RICAN FOOD.

Yelp
I grew up around puerto ricanos in chicago, but I've never had a Jibarito. Everybody tells me to try Jibaritos y mas, but I live on the south side so the Jibarito stop was closer. I ordered the Steak Jibarito con arroz amarillo, Steak Jibarito con arroz blanco, Pork Stew Plate, and a Beef Empanada; all in which were delicious! I was impressed with the taste and texture of the plantain, and the amount of steak that came with the sandwich. The mayo, grilled onion, and cheese complimented the flavors of the steak and plantain. The full order was extremely filling and worth breaking down into two separate meals. The pork stew was cooked to perfection, flavorful, delicate, and with the price. I highly recommend choosing the yellow rice over the white. My least favorite was the empanada, but it was decent (maybe not worth the price). My favorite Puerto Rican restaurant in the city is Diana's; however, I was very satisfied with the Jibarito spot and I highly recommend checking them out. Service was decent. It was a youngster that took my order and extra communication went a long way güey. It can be easy to feel rushed at the counter so please take your time as you are paying a premium price for the food that you are ordering. Ambiance is so Chicago, and what you would expect for pilsen area. It is cleanish, and comfortable enough for me to feel at home. Final verdict is that the Jibarito spot is highly worthy of checking out!

Yelp
It was my first time here and my first time getting a Jibarito. Little did I know that this sandwich was born in Chicago but certainly has that Puerto Rican flavor. I went with someone who loves this place so I was excited to see try out this place that came with good recommendation. There wasn't many people when we came as they were about 45 min till closing so the service was quicker than usual as my date mentioned. I got the steak jibarito and he got the shrimp mofongo. I should have gotten the half jibarito because the full is a lot of food. It was delicious though! Flavorful and crunchy. Plus the rice was cooked so well. I also tried the beans that came with the mofongo and also amazing flavor. Made me wish I had gotten a side of beans to add to my rice. Pleasantly surprised to see they have a kola soda, too! I can't wait to heat up my leftovers later today but certainly will come back for mofongo.
google avatar

Maureen N.

Yelp
I got the 1/2 jibarito sandwich with chicken and avocado. The chicken had other spices except salt so it tasted bland. The fried plantain was not salted, and the unseasoned chicken and the water from the tomato made for a rather disappointing meal.

Yelp
This is a solid counter-order spot on Pilsen's 18th St. serving flavorful, garlicky jibaritos, plates, etc. It wasn't too crowded for a Saturday lunch, but most of the tables were full. The inside ambience is chill and relaxed. I ordered the Vegan Steak Mofongo Plate and Full Chicken Jibarito to share with one other person, and it was a hefty amount of food that left us both quite full and satisfied. Both tasted flavorful, but overly salty, as we were both extremely thirsty afterwards. And although I'm normally a huge fan of garlic, I must say that the garlic flavor in both dishes was a bit overpowering. I personally liked the Vegan Steak Mofongo Plate better, as it had a more eclectic mix of textures and flavors, from the delicious beans mixed in rice to the vegan steak and soft, garlicky mash exterior. The jibarito was similarly flavorful but difficult to consume cohesively in one piece. The prices are pretty fair, especially for the portion sizes. Although I didn't love how salty and overly garlicky the food was, it did hit the spot overall and I would love come back to try the other items on the menu. -- Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5 Food: 4/5 Ambience: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 (quick and friendly ordering and service) Overall Value: 4/5

Yelp
After visiting the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago's. We came here, and it was close by. You can totally walk to it if you want. The staff was friendly. I love their music. We got a sample. I love their veg empanada it tasted like curry. We also got their steak sandwich. The steak is Italian beef, which I thought was very chicago.

Yelp
Next time I'll get my sandwich on bread because the plantain crusts don't work for me, but the innards were BANGIN. I got shrimp and there was a)PLENTY of them and b) they were very large and fresh! The stuffed potato balls, bacalao, and other finger foods were excellent as well.

Yelp
This place is so good. Oh my God is great for vegans !!! it has its own vegan menu, and non-vegan menu, which is very rare to come by the food was amazing I had a vegan empanada and the vegan steak dinner I think this is definitely hidden gem. The service was great. It's also women on which is lovely. Cute little cafe definitely coming again

Yelp
This place has potential. Food is good. The Pork Plate had a very small portion of pork however was seasoned well and had good flavor. My wife had the Jibarito. It taste good. I was disappointed in the cutlery they provide when dinning in. Very cheap and hard to eat with.

Yelp
Leaving this review with the hopes that the owners and managers grow. They wasted 30+ minutes of my life. I ordered my food sat down at the side tables. I think they forgot I was there because after I placed my order, their systems crashed. Everyone there started panicking over the system not working as opposed to making the food for the people who had already paid in person! After 30 minutes and they realize I'm still there, they send a random person from the back to try to take my order again with a pen and paper. This should have happened 30 minutes prior. By this time I was pissed. I go up to the front and ask what's happening and the manager is gonna say "with what?" Umm wdym with what? With the fact that I've been here for 30 minutes and your staff member is trying to retake my order? Anyway, they weren't really apologetic. They didn't offer to comp my food like a restaurant with good customer service would have done . Honestly a terrible experience.

Yelp
Hello Yelpers! Well today I went to "The Jibarito Shop" in Pilsen. I'm loving Puerto Rican comida lately. I find puerto rican food to be quite comforting. Today me & the wife had some Arroz con gandules, Arroz con Habichuelas, yucca fries, Maduros, Veggie empanada & some Pinõn! This was my first time having Pinõn and it didn't disappoint!! It was so savory & the sweetness of the plantains balanced the flavors out! Such a delicious dish! The yucca fries were also new to me. They taste like French Fries on Steroids! Absolutely, delicious potatoey crispy fries! The arroz con gandules was good but I've had better. Now their Habichuelas so far can't be matched!! The best in the city. They don't give you much of their habichuelas but you'll order more! Or just opt and get the large!! The empanada was pretty decent. My wife like it a lot, I prefer the empanadas from "Chilango". I would give them 5 stars but they're stingy with the habichuelas! all in all we'll definitely be returning! And I do recommend them! Great job Jibarito Shop! 6.7/10

Yelp
When it comes to Puerto Rican restaurants, they are known to have bad reputation for food and service. So when I found this place the food was great and service was great too. I loved the fact they had free hot sauces for the people who like hot. But now the food and service has declined after Covid. The quality of food has lost a lot of its flavor like they're cutting corners. Now they charging for sauces (even if you are dining in) they should be free. This place was a nice place to go eat and sit down. Now it feels like a fast food place that charges for everything... When places become like this, their downfall begins. They no longer have the passion in their food, like when first started. My recommendation for them is that they give free sauces, cause if your food is not the best that day, the sauce will cover it. I don't think I'll be going there anymore.

Maria N.

Yelp
I've had Puerto Rican food plenty of times love it. Since I'm in the Southside figure this place is closer and has a 4.5 stars, BUT totally disagree with the stars I was SO DISAPPOINTED with the rice NEVER tasted Puerto Rican potato salad!!!! I say it was more like mashed potato period literally NASTY FOOD DONT RECOMMEND IT AT ALL.......... not even one star I had to give a star in order to post, I didn't want to eat through away literally.... THE JIBARITO STOP 1646 W 18 St NASTY FOOD BEING HONEST

Yelp
I recently discovered this gem of a restaurant, and was so delighted to try nearly every single vegan dish for Valentine's Day. It did not disappoint and I could not believe that the jibarito was in the shape of hearts. My favorite dish was the mofongo, but everything was out of this world. We had loaded tostones, loaded yucca fries, potato salad, empanadas, chopped cheese sandwich and so many different delicious sauces. The mojito sauce was my favorite. I cannot wait to order again and I have plenty of leftovers to enjoy.

Yelp
Chicago food inventions are numerous, and many are good but some are bad. It can be quite a surprise when learning one of the inventions is the jibarito. The Jibarito Stop is just one of many places to get this. A lot of people think it was created in Puerto Rico, but it was actually here. The sandwich made with fried plantains instead of bread was inspired by Puerto Rican cuisine but it's local. After hearing about this sandwich, I needed to go somewhere to get it. Is there anywhere better than Pilsen? There's crap tons of Mexican and Puerto Rican food there. Bringing along the girl, we made our way here. It's not that hard finding jibaritos in town. What's harder is finding ones that are vegan or vegetarian. Luckily this place has one. There's no alcohol but there's Puerto Rican pop. Kola Champagne is pretty good. The Vegan Jibarito was quite a meal. It's $11 but it's big. This one was made with vegan versions of cheese and mayonnaise. Good flavor. This also had beans, garlic oil, lettuce, rice, and tomatoes. Go here for great jibaritos. It's a lot of food for a meal. This is one of the few places to get versions for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
I found my new spot for mofongo and empanadas today, and it's here. Not wildly busy at lunchtime during the week; the wait time for food was about 10-15 minutes. It was quite fresh, as everything came out hot, and if you get a drink, simultaneously with your food items. I could have hurt myself on those empanadas - I regretted only getting one beef one! It was crunchy but not hard enough to bite into, and the stuffing was flavorfully hearty without being salty. The accompanying sauce is a nice addition, but not necessary. The shrimp mofongo entree was just as good, and rich without being heavy. The garlic sauce atop the mofongo is very good, and the sides compliment it nicely.

Yelp
Tried jibaritos for the first time and this place was great! Would recommend getting a half size because they're pretty filling and comes with rice on the side (get the arroz con gandules rice!). Yucca fries are thicker and crunchier than expected--I'm not a huge fan of super crunchy fries--but the garlic oil was great. I really liked the tembleque dessert, which was a little salty and very creamy!

Yelp
When you walk in, it smells so delicious! I ordered an item called "roasted pork mofongo" and a beef empanada. Now, the food was very delicious and flavorful! However, I was a little disappointed in the amount of mofongo. I thought it would be a big mound like they give you in Puerto Rico, but it was about the amount of one of the scoops of rice you get. I'd say I would've preferred less rice and more mofongo, especially since the dish is called roasted pork mofongo. It was still delicious though! One other note, I wish the music was a little quieter, it was super loud

Yelp
Tasty fresh food. Loved the yellow rice /pigeon peas, maduros, and jibarito w/ mayoket sauce! Found easy metered parking right outside. It's not huge inside the restaurant but we were able to easily find seating for 3 on a Friday at dinnertime.

Yelp
So delicious. Like flavors out the wazoo. Ordered the chicken jibarito with Chihuahua cheese and arroz con gandules. The Jibarito is delicious and they use the garlic sauce on the outside which means gives a burst of flavor when it hits your tongue. The arroz is also delicious! I've only had takeout but it's been my dept's go to place to order from for lunches. Highly recommend!

Yelp
There are a lot of great places to get a bite and to eat in the Pilsen Neighborhood. Many of them are taco places and Mexican restaurants. The other day, I called an audible, and tried The Jibarito Stop, a restaurant specializing in Jibaritos and Puerto Rican food. They don't have a huge menu, but what I ordered was all delicious. First, the food come out hot and fast. The time from ordering to the time I received my food was very quick. The chicken in the dishes I ordered was piping hot and the corn fritters were hot, crispy and the cheese inside was hot too. Second, the food and drink are excellent. I started out with their passion fruit juice. It's not watered down, it's very flavorful and it's make in house. One word of warning, it's super sweet. I didn't mind that, but if you're not a fan I of sweet drinks this might not be the best drink for you. For food, I ordered the chicken jibarito sandwich (full size), the chicken stew platter and the corn fritters. The chicken was warm, had a nice flavor and was juicy. It paired will with the yellow rice, which also has a nice flavor. I would actually take the chicken stew platter over the chicken jibarito sandwich purely on the tenderness of the chicken. Don't get me wrong, the chicken jibarito sandwich is very good and worth getting. I also enjoyed the corn fritters. The outside was sweet and you can definitely taste the corn. If you like corn or corn flavor, this is for you. The inside was hot and the cheese filling was ooey gooey in the best way. Just one note of caution, the cheese inside was super hot, so be careful. In all, The Jibarito Stop is a must visit.

Yelp
Go to for their meat-- especially the pork! Great value! We only got half an order of their jibaritos-- a full order comes with TWO! Their pork is so tender and juicy, and their rice gets full marks on flavor (though a tad on the softer/wet side). The tostones are garlicky and a bit on the thin/drier side. However, when deconstructed, the meat balances the tostones well (could benefit from a hint of lime and/or hot sauce for some acidity). Else, the maduros--yum! Overall, a recommended quick, filling bite! Pictured: Pork Jibarito (half order) with Yellow Rice, Maduros, Yucca Fries, and Pork Plate

Yelp
Your order upon arrival, you're given a number then you get your food. Great place, very tasty, large portions. Helpful staff and clean interior.

Yelp
I don't do this often but my first impressions, this is 5 stars. I was blown away. I order the steak Jibarito. It comes with white rice and beans or yellow rice and Peas, I believe. I opted for the white rice and red beans. The white rice was just rice, but the red beans were incredible, they had I think a potato in it. The jibarito itself was tasty as well. The plantain used to make bread taste very different from what I think a plantain makes. It wasn't really sweet and it wasn't mushy at all either. It absolutely worked. The steak with garlic and mayo put me in mind of a steak gyro. I also tried the beef empanada. It was tasty came with a green somewhat spicy sauce. The other side I had was and pinon a Puerto Rican style savory pie. Now that was a phenomenal dish, never had anything like that. It's like a lasagna but it's a but sweeter, not as saucy. It's a must try. I will no doubt be back

Yelp
Sampler was delicious shrimp empanadas are just right on spice. Beef was not greasy. Empanadas were flaky and Alcapurria Fritter seasoned right.

Yelp
Delicious Food, but it is a first come first to sit on a table.also if you decide to order vegan. they might forget to do it. if is was a better establishment, they would have given him his money back with his food.He waited for an hour and a half to get his food

Yelp
Puerto Rican for lunch today. Steak jabarito, beef empanada, shrimp empanada and Puerto Rican rice. It's my first time here and my first jabarito. The flavors were on point. Didn't care for the shrimp empanada but I LOVED the beef empanada.

Yelp
I was told by someone of Hispanic decent that I had to try this spot because the food is phenomenal and the sandwich was made with plantains so as a gluten free person it is safe/safer. This garlic aioli on these fries plantain chicken sandwich was PHENOMENAL. The prices were fantastic, two of us shared a full sandwich which was FILLING for both of us for only $16. I loved the diner take out vibe in the restaurant. Definitely a must for any local or traveler

Yelp
I've watched this little restaurant grow so much during the last few years I've been in the neighborhood. I love that they have never failed me in food service or flavor--the best place to get a fried plantain sandwich or a jibarito. My regular is a half jibarito. But when I'm starving, you can catch me eating an entire steak jibarito with queso chihuahua, a side of yuka fries (a fantastic type of potato), and can't forget the eat the giant side of Arroz con gandules or pigeon peas (I never knew that's what they are called in English). Anyway, if I ate all that at once, my stomach would hurt, but I enjoy just having a bit of everything at once.

Yelp
An hour to get a poor excuse for Jibarito. No flavor, bland rice, overcooked meat, and not even a hint of garlic, so typical of jibaritos. Bad service...everything just hit all the bad boxes. Definitely not coming back.

Yelp
This place is a small cozy stop with absolutely delicious empanadas for reasonable prices! Stopped by here with a friend and we absolutely loved it! HIGHLY recommend getting the flan here; that was my favorite!

Yelp
The Jibarito spot has amazing vegan options available. They are located in Pilsen there's street parking available and the train isn't too far either. When I found out this restaurant has vegan jibarito I knew I wanted to stop and try it. The vegan jibarito comes with lettuce, tomato, mushroom, avocado, vegan cheese, vegan Mayo, rice and beans. I also got an order of maduros (platanos/plantains). Everything was delicious and so flavorful! They were so nice and friendly and answered my questions regarding their vegan items. If your in the Pilsen area the Jibarito Spot is definitely a must.

Yelp
Hey! Nice to see a Puerto Rican spot in Pilsen! So far I have tried their steak and lechon jibaritos as well as their papa relleno, alcapurria, and shrimp pastelillo and I have been impressed with everything. You can order ahead of time using their website. The first time it was ready when I arrived, the second time it took a little longer, but they made up for it by PACKING my jibarito full of lechon! I would like to add that my jibaritos had an amazingly sexy amount of garlic on top of the sandwiches. Both the lechon and steak were super flavorful. A full jibarito is too much for me, and in my experience the plantain doesn't heat up very well, so I really appreciate the fact that you can order half a sandwich. The papa relleno and alcapurria both had meat AND cheese. I've never had cheese in either of these dishes before, but it was a great addition. They have a couple of outdoor seats complete with domino sets to play while you wait. Street parking wasn't hard to find at all, but you will most likely have to pay at the paybox for it. I will definitely be back to try their arroz & gandules, as well as their Pinon. Service was friendly and quick. Cash and credit accepted.
