Best Restaurants for Lunch in Greenville, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"The Jones Oyster Co. does not take reservations, and its small, but well-designed dining room has quickly become a top spot for lunch. Chowder and chargrilled oysters stand out on the menu, and fresh oysters are exceptionally clean and cut nicely off the shell. A smoked fish dip app is delicious, and the wine-by-the-glass list is interesting, especially for white wine. In a fun nod, chef Brant Teske puts Hellmann’s mayo on the lobster roll but Duke’s mayo on his po-boy. The hush puppies feel more akin to fried corn fritters." - Stephanie Burnette

This was my first time here! I went on a Saturday, which was super busy. We had to wait for an hour, but it was worth it. I got seated at the bar, and the bartender was super friendly and welcoming. We ordered a few things to share. The chef’s choice oysters were okay—some were a bit too bland for my taste. But the hush puppies are absolutely delicious! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. For the main dish, we shared the Connecticut-style lobster rolls—and wow, they were amazing! The lobster was so fresh and sweet. If they used just a little less butter, it would have been perfect. I’ll definitely be back to try more! 🍽️🔥

This is a great place! We went abot 5:30 on a Friday and had to wait about 35 minutes to get a table not bad at all. The whole staff was super friendly. The hostess was very nice and gave suggestions on the meals! The bartenders were quick and very nice as well. We had the best server nhe was very knowledgeable and was always checking on us throughout the whole meal the hostess even came over at the end and made sure we had a excellent experience! Will definitely be back. Oh and the food was amazing definitely get the hush puppies!!

Google
Outstanding seafood restaurant and oyster bar. Service was quick and attentive. Beer was good. This was the first lobster roll I’ve had in months where I was satisfied. Every other “lobster roll” I get leaves me livid over how much I was scammed for some frozen lobster in a hot dog bun. The lobster roll here came impeccably close to being the same thing you get in Maine. I will come back time and time again just for this lobster roll.

Finally got to visit Jones Oyster Co. my wife and our friends had 2 dozen raw oyster, first the chefs choice, then our favorite from the chefs choices. Oysters serve with horseradish, mignonette and red sauce. My first time to have a soft shell crab sandwich. I may go back this week to have another while it’s soft-shell crab season. Hush puppies are the best, crispy on the outside and delicious inside like cornbread. Chips as side is a good choice, thick and crunchy. Decent selection of wines. Jones Oyster is so popular, one of the best in Greenville, so expect a wait. We went to Main St for a glass of wine until our text notice that our table was ready

Google
We started our meal off with the chefs' choice of raw oysters. We were seated at the bar, right in front of the guys shucking the oysters, so we got to talk to them about all the oysters on the menu. And the oysters were fantastic! The other items we ordered were the clam roll (with whole belly clams) and the crab rice. Both were great, but that crab rice was so good! Great service, we were being checked on often and really taken care of 😀 Can't wait to visit again!

Google
Waited nearly 2 hours, and we’d say it’s worth it. The place was tiny (hence the wait), but food was great. The only odd thing was that both my fiancé and I ordered the crab fried rice and yet his came out different from mine. Mine lacked certain seasonings and toppings that you can clearly see on his (like sesame seeds). His was also a different color than mine, was more flavorful, and more “fried” than mine. It was almost as if mine was half done, but I still thought it wasn’t bad. Just wasn’t as good as his. We do highly recommend it all though.

Immediately when we walked in, we were greeted and seated. I love the decor and coastal vibes. We kept it classic with ordering the Connecticut Lobster Roll. Decilous! It was fresh and flavor. Loved the crispy quality of the fries as well.

Google
Trust me you want to put this place on the top of your next resturant list!! We visited last night for the first time. The food was outstanding. The restaurant and atmosphere was so beautiful. We felt like we were the only ones in the room. We tried almost everything on the menu from drinks to oysters, shots, and dinner. It was an amzazing evening with brilliant cuisine. The chefs were so amazing as we watched them put on a show firing up the open fire broiler oven. The food is genius, I'm so glad we have seafood near us FINALLY!! I will share photos of some of the dishes I had so you can see for yourselves.

Yelp
My favorite seafood restaurant in Greenville! I always get raw oysters plus a new item each visit. The staff is always great and the music is excellent! I also love the Oyster Roasts in the winter!

Yelp
Best place for oysters in Greenville. It's worth the wait. The Jones Oyster Co. shucked me right outta my socks. Walked in expecting a casual seafood fix--walked out wondering if I could legally marry a grilled oyster. The NOLA Grilled Gulf Oysters? Smoky, buttery, and borderline seductive. The mahi-mahi spread + hush puppies combo? Let's just say if it were a band, I'd follow it on tour. Service was next-level friendly--one of our crew had mobility issues and they handled it with such kindness (plus a surprise dessert that made us feel like VIPs at a coastal seafood Grammy party). Heads-up: no reservations, so expect a wait. But honestly, I'd camp outside for this place like it's 1999 and they're dropping concert tickets. 11/10--will be back, and probably writing love poems to their oysters in the meantime.

Yelp
A really good food experience (oysters, lobster rolls, and clam chowder) - the wait can be long since they don't take reservations but once seated service was quick. My experience at the bar while waiting for our table wasn't as pleasant. I didn't realize I didn't have my ID and was refused service - totally understandable, policy is policy. However, it left a bad taste in my mouth when, once seated, we watched the bartender round up our server to inform them to not serve me and also put her manager on notice. Had I not offered to show a picture of my ID or other proof of age (the fact that we were celebrating my Master's graduation for instance), I might not have been so bothered by this involvement of all other parties. I heard you on the policy the first time, not trying to pull a fast one by trying to order from someone else.

Yelp
Blown away with The Jones Oyster companies commitment to being the best in South Carolina (not just the Upstate) Manager Clem and his fantastic team of people like Alicia exceed expectation every time! Well worth the wait folks, get to this place and show them some love
google avatar

Robert A.

Yelp
The oysters are second to none - I had high expectations given their specialty is oysters and they did not disappoint. But a surprising highlight was their craft cocktails. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
We enjoyed our beverages and oysters in this well-appointed restaurant in the heart of Greenville. We were quickly seated upon arrival and received timely service through our meal. The oysters were tasty. Thanks!

Yelp
This is a small quint beautiful place for drinks and amazing food. The host, server and mixologist was outstanding. But the food was made to order, fresh, delicious and well seasoned. I could eat at this place everyday. If you are in the area this is a must GO TO Restaurant. **Sorry no food pictures it was dinner with higher management and I didn't have time to take pictures.
google avatar

Yelp
Mostly good. One bad. The four of us all enjoyed our meals. Connecticut Lobster Roll was plentiful but I had to ask for extra melted butter. Fish and chips were well liked too, as was the Shrimp Roll. However, we all found the fried to be WAY too salty and would not choose them again OR ask to eliminate the heavy seasoning. Service by Christian was outstanding. Good dialog and attention without hovering. We loved the atmosphere of the establishment although it was quite loud - which might be a consideration for folks who use hearing aids. We were quite fine with the vibe. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance, everything gets a 5/5! A very popular seafood place in Greenville, the restaurant is cute and fills up very quickly. If you do not come for a late lunch or early dinner, expect the wait to be long, especially because they don't take reservations! We tried the restaurant mid-week but it was still pretty busy. We were lucky to get the last table. We were party of 3 adults and a child. We ordered two appetizers, the hush puppies and the smoked Carolina fish dip. We also ordered three Pull and eat shrimp plates and a dozen grilled oysters. The appetizer is served with crackers and is just the right amount of crunch, fish, etc. the shrimps had a deliciously delicate flavor. I really enjoyed them. The hush puppies were cooked perfectly, and so were the oysters which tasted perfect with Parmesan on top accompanied with bread. This place is a must try if you are in Greenville. The next time I visit, it'll be the first restaurant on my list!

Yelp
I love this place! If you're an oyster fan, you owe it to yourself to eat here. There were several east and west coast oysters on the menu tonight and they were all delicious! My favorites were the Ichabod Flats. They were sweet and buttery, with a hint of a briny finish. Service was great! Friendly and knowledgeable. The place is so popular and there's a super fun atmosphere. If there's a wait, and there almost always is, stick it out. It's worth it!
google avatar

Allison P.

Yelp
A great spot! Food is consistent, service is prompt, and the menu isn't fussy at all. The only downside is longer wait times as you can't make a resy in advance. The crab fried rice was amazing! The flavors complimented each other well. Loved the oyster varietals from west to East coast selections. The vibe here is laid back, but you could easily turn this into a date night if you wanted to.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Jones Oyster Co. is hands down the best seafood spot in Greenville, and the ambiance is lively, neighborly, and buzzing. We had the pleasure of being served by Velas, who gave us some of the best service we've ever experienced, attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. The oysters? Next level. Pro tip: Get there early! The place fills up fast (and for good reason). We beat the rush and were seated right away, 10/10!

Joshua M.

Yelp
We didn't have time to take a pic of the crab rice, the lobster roll or the first dozen oysters, because everything was so good. This is the second dozen, everything was fantastic.
google avatar

Debi R.

Yelp
Oysters were good. Great place for Happy Hour. Good cocktails and craft beers. Get there early to get a seat.
google avatar

Yelp
YUMMMMM. Swung by this place for some oysters and I regret not coming hungrier. Ordered the chef's choice dozen, which was three varieties from VA. They were delicious. My partner ordered the lobstah roll and the lobstah to roll ratio was very much in favor of the lobstah. Our server was fantastic. They were super friendly and made us feel right at home. Will definitely be back, but with a bigger appetite!
google avatar

Yelp
We love this place. The service is amazing and the food is delicious. I have many trips planned to this location. I want to try everything on the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Updated review: Jones is top 3 restaurant in town. Food and service consistently delivers. Only two small complaints: 1) they have changed their home-made chips. Used to be amazing, now totally unremarkable. 2) I wish the menu was a little more varied: add a fish plate or two, rather than just sandwiches, a smoked fish plate, rather than just dip...maybe a hamachi or crudo. A little variety for the regulars!
google avatar

Tia K.

Yelp
Perfect spot for lunch downtown! The restaurant is small but lively. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Everything we tried was delicious! The hush puppies and fish dip are perfect starters. The Connecticut lobster roll was simple but delicious and the crab rice is a must try! We had the scorched orchard and tequila from mars cocktails and both were tasty.
google avatar

Ari S.

Yelp
Anytime we visit from NYC, we have lunch here. V is awesome and has been our server every time we've been here. The smoked fish dip is delicious. I love that they have the option of a Connecticut lobster roll as well as the traditional one. All the sandwiches are good. The fries are fresh and homemade but don't sleep on the house chips. They're crispy and flavorful and if there's any dip left, use the chips!
google avatar

Donnice S.

Yelp
Great service and excellent atmosphere. The Corvina blackened sandwich was amazing. I highly recommend. Come early. No reservations.

Yelp
I'm not typically a huge seafood fan, but Jones exceeded all my expectations. First, the vibe was so fun & upbeat, and the cozy size of the restaurant honestly makes it that much better. More importantly, the food was amazing. We 100% over ordered but we loved getting to try a bunch of different things and we left extremely full. My first time trying a lobster roll and I loved it! Absolutely get the crab dip, and a quick tip - you can order a half serving of the hush puppies!
google avatar

Yelp
When I say everything here was delicious!!!! The drinks were perfect, fish dip was incredible. Overall experience was great even got to watch the Georgia -Clemson game.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't look any further. It's as amazing as the reviews state. Half a dozen New Orleans style grilled oysters, cioppino (the daily special), red ales on draft, and bread pudding for dessert. Absolutely amazing. We sat at the end of the bar and had a front row seat to see all the yumminess coming out of the kitchen.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend had rave reviews about this place so when we came to visit her she took us here right away. Cute little spot! We were warmly greeted and put our name on the waitlist because the place was busy... when we were seated the ambiance was very cozy and warm... our waitress and servers were all very friendly ! We wanted to order a bunch of appetizers to try. We ordered the oysters that were warm with garlic butter Parmesan cheese it was served with bread and they were sooo good! Perfectly cooked and shucked and then dipping the bread it the sauce was perfection. The warm shrimp were tasty and then we ordered fries and the hush puppies were equally amazing. Overall great place and can't wait to come back when I'm visiting !
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
I love this place. The bartender and staff were amazing. Their oysters were meaty , tasty and needed little seasoning and their shrimp Po Boy sandwich was delicious. This is definitely a repeat visit when I return here in April.
google avatar

Brian N.

Yelp
Perfection! This please is awesome. Great vibe, fantastic service (Thank you Paige!), and the food! I mean there was not a flaw in this meal. Every detail was perfect. The bread to sop up every last drop of silky Lobster bisque. The piping hot grilled oysters with a buttery broth that you could not resist. Even the French fries that accompanied the oyster poboy and the clam roll (often times an afterthought) were flawless. Can't recall a better meal in recent memory.
google avatar

Yelp
This a cute spot located in downtown Greenville. They have a bar, and an open window with high top stools where you can sit and look out to the street. The offer raw oysters and also have grilled option as well. I ordered the NOLA grilled oysters, the cheese hush puppies, and the Connecticut lobster roll and everything was soooooo dang good!!! The manager came out with a sample of the fish dip, AMAZING!!! I sat at the bar and was served by Emma and she suggested the Cayeya Reposado and it's the best tequila I've had outside of Mexico! If you have time and love oysters and lobster rolls please stop by, you will not be disappointed!!! Thanks Emma and staff, everyone was friendly and asked how I enjoyed my lunch! And the offer a military discount!!
google avatar

Yelp
There were a few parties waiting to be seated but we decided to see how long that wait was anyway. From the moment we walked in, we were cheerfully greeted and placed ourselves on the waitlist since it wasn't long. We grabbed a drink from the bartender, who was also just as cheerful, and made our way outside to wait. To our surprise, we were offered hush puppies to snack on, which was such a treat. Once we were sat at the bar, we were given even more food to sample and loved watching that cooks shuck oysters and cook the food. For such a busy restaurant, they continued to make us feel welcomed and special. Everyone was in an amazing mood, working together, and just effortlessly doing their part to keep the atmosphere upbeat. The little touches, drinks, food, employees, and atmosphere made this dinner a favorite that I just had to share. I really want to go back today so don't hesitate to go!

Yelp
Been here several & left positive reviews on other sites. This time however....took 35 minutes for a dozen shucked oysters. Server was LAZY - sat behind the counter talking & gabbing & had to wave her down EVERY SINGLE TIME we needed service - forget it about her coming by to check on our orders or see if we needed anything. Clam fried sandwich was nasty - tasted like old fried fish. When we complained the server said 'Oh well!'. When we asked her about saltiness of oysters she made an ugly face and said ' I don't eat oysters!' Really ?!? - maybe find a new place to work. Overall a dismal experience for a place we used to frequent once a week. The manager seemed oblivious when we had to ask him to find our server to pay the bill after waiting 20 minutes!!!
google avatar

Stefanie B.

Yelp
We live 50 miles away & made 2 trips just to eat here & it was definitely worth it! Pack your patience, because you will have to wait because the secret is out. It's small but cool venue that offers the most amazing seafood! I had the Maine Lobster Roll & it was superb! The drinks are delicious as well! The staff is super attentive! This place is definitely on "repeat " for us!

Yelp
When you make it to Greenville and it's too early for your hotel check in, swing by this cozy spot for a taste of the sea. As a solo diner today, I was seated at the pretty bar closest to the action of the kitchen. An ideal front row seat to the chef grilling oysters and the ultimate "picture" menu in real life as plate after delicious plate passed in front of me. I ordered the clam chowder (which was creamy perfection) with oyster crackers, and grilled oysters with bread for dipping into the garlic butter goodness at the bottom of the pan. A delicious and satisfying meal! A big thank you to Emma who was so personable and provided excellent care from start to finish. The restaurant was packed, and she expertly floated from behind the bar and throughout the space, navigating tight corners, refilling water, delivering food, clearing dishes and all with a smile. A very memorable experience. I will return.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
The variety of oysters really opened my eyes to all the different flavors. From sweet to salty they were all fantastic. The shrimp burger was excellent too. And the service is among the best I have ever had at any restaurant in any city around the world. Highly recommended for anyone in the area, or even if you have to drive from Atlanta to experience it.
google avatar

Yelp
Had dinner and a beer with a friend of mine tonight at this spot. The Oysters were good and from a variety of places. I'm used to Va Beach where the happy hours are until 6, so $4 Oysters felt a little pricey to me. The waitress was okay. We finished our meal, drank the remaining drink, and I used the bathroom and she still hadn't checked on us. I got up to get our ticket because my friend genuinely thought that's what we were supposed to do. She apologized for getting busy but there were 4-5 other employees standing at the door. She may have been the only one running around. The place was quiet until til it got busy. I'd be back but I'd make sure to hit the happy hour times.
google avatar

Shanoah N.

Yelp
Walked in as soon as I seen the menu. Out of town we here, still dreaming about the fish dip and baked oysters. Definitely will be making my way back here one day. Started off with some happy hour oysters and some oyster shooters. When they passed around some fish dip samples, we needed to order it. Then they talked us into getting the baked oysters, so happy we did. I will dream about these until I taste them again. Staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. The place is just date night/girls night/ even dinner for one atmosphere.
google avatar

Siena D.

Yelp
The Jones oyster bar is a great spot if you are craving seafood in Greenville. I had the lobster roll (Connecticut style). There was plenty of lobster and the mayonnaise was light enough so the flavor of the lobster sang. The table also got the golf oyster po'boy which was also delicious. For sides, we opted to split fries and the seasonal vegetable, asparagus. Everything was really good but I do think it was too salty. We also ended up getting a cocktail and mocktail. Both were great! In terms of ambience, the inside was really cute. I lt was quite loud where it was hard to talk to someone directly in front of me.
google avatar

Lydia H.

Yelp
Pleased with food and service. The only reason it wasn't 5-stars is the space is so cramped and tiny, no reservations and haven't been without a wait. A space expansion or offering even limited reservations or having an enjoyable waiting area (vs sidewalk) would make it 5. Once you sit down it's delicious!!
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Excellent food & service! Small venue so best for smaller parties. Great wine selection too! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
In a stop-over in Greenville, SC we stopped here for delicious seafood. They really do not serve any beef plates so if any company wants that, this isn't the place. They have a hearty selection of oysters ranging from $3-$4 each and perfectly fresh and clean. I had the oysters, the New England clam chowder, and the PoBoy oyster sandwich. Someone with us has a wheat allergy and the chef prepared fried fish with gluten free flour. Loved the service and staff, nice clean setting and they even serve alcohol.
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
Do yourself a flavor and eat at this joint! They don't take reservations, so consider going as close to 5 as possible, and try to sit at the oyster bar. The oysters are PERFECTLY shucked; no grit, no shell, and they retain their juices, perfect! The crab fried rice is BOMB, and the lobster roll is light on mayonnaise and heavy on meat, amazing! The service was friendly and expert level, no dummies serving. Drinks were crafted, and the beer was ice cold. Excellent restaurant!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Of course, the name makes you think of oysters, and if it's oysters you want, oysters they've got. I ordered the chef's dozen and all of the varieties were amazing. Some briny and some sweet. I added the calamari and it was the perfect combination. The staff is amazing. The servers are attentive and friendly. The oyster shucker knew his craft and the area. He gave me a free GA McIntosh and sanitized an oyster on an oyster. This place is awesome! Stop by for your seafood fill.

Anna K.

Yelp
Hands down the best restaurant in Greenville! I was a bit hesitant to leave a review because I want to keep this place all for myself! Best food, atmosphere and service! We are always greeted and treated absolutely like a family when we go there. The staff go above and beyond and truly care. This place is a true gem.
google avatar

Judy B.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this restaurant and we were thoroughly impressed with the quality of food and the excellent service. The selection of oysters is outstanding and this is the first place outside of the Boston area that had Ipswich clams; and they were perfect. We came in for lunch and we will cancel our dinner reservations and go back again tonight.
google avatar

Joan T.

Yelp
Food was amazing and the service was great. Good Oysters are always tricky to find, I got lucky. And the previous reviews didn't lie Amazing place
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
The lobster roll was on point! Sweet pulled lobster with drawn butter. I had a few oysters too, but forgot to take pics. Upbeat crowd in the downtown area made for a fun night out while traveling solo for work.

Yelp
Wow!!! What a great place!! We were told to try this place by locals waiting for our flight to Greenville from Detroit and they didn't let us down. Our server, Veles, was so personable and gave us outstanding recommendations on what to order. We weren't in the mood for oysters but they had lots of other great things to get. We were told to get the hush puppies by our fellow travelers in Detroit and they were even better than described, YUMMY!!! Veles described the fish and chips as being light and tender as everything they use is super fresh from the fish to the batter.... They were the best fish and chips I've ever had!! Combined with equally delicious fries (which you could tell were hand cut and fresh) and crispy sweet coleslaw (again...fresh). The fish were so tender and light with a crispy delicious crust. We were pretty full at this point, having ordered a second helping of the hush puppies, but my wife and I love key lime pie. As everything else was so good we indulged. Great again. The decor of this place is bright and airy open to the outside. Between Veles' service, the food and the ambiance; this is a must try place while in Greenville!!! Add this 5 star review to the many others here on Yelp!!

Yelp
Went for the second time last night and it was wonderful. We sat at the front windows, after originally choosing a high top. I'm 5'3" and my feet didn't comfortably reach the foot rest on the high top stools, so that's something to consider if you're short and you get a choice of table! There's no backrest on the high top stools, either. I started with the clam chowder and a half dozen oysters. Both were fantastic! My husband and I got the grilled oysters on our first visit, and those were also wonderful. The bread with the butter and seasonings from the oysters is so yummy. For my main entree, I got the Maine style lobster roll for the second visit in a row. I've had lobster rolls in Maine, and i think this is the best I've had in Greenville that compares! The bun is perfectly soft and smushable for eating. The decor and atmosphere is fantastic. It's a great date night spot, and a great place to take friends from out of town! Don't miss eating here if you love seafood.

Yelp
Everything about the Jones Oyster Co is awesome. The raw oysters are as good as you will find on the coast and the smoked fish dip is a must try. The service and drinks are great. My favorite restaurant in Greenville.

Yelp
The service was quick, and our waters were never empty. Our waitress kept us informed of daily specials, and was helpful with menu suggestions. The ambience inside was gorgeous with beautiful decorations and an open kitchen design. There was a large open window to give an indoor/outdoor dining feel. The food was incredible. I rank the lobster roll I had as the second best sandwich I've ever had in my life. We got it served warm! It was absolutely incredible and I will be dreaming about it. We also tried the grilled oysters as recommended by our server and they were to die for as well. The restaurant provided a mini complimentary fish dip sample at the beginning of the meal, which was super fun and a pleasant surprise. Next time we come back, we will definitely get fish dip since it was so yummy!

Sally H.

Yelp
Love the food! Service has been outstanding and the restaurant itself is comfortable and familiar. Parking can be a little distance away sometimes.
