Best Restaurants for Lunch in Greenville, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"The Jones Oyster Co. does not take reservations, and its small, but well-designed dining room has quickly become a top spot for lunch. Chowder and chargrilled oysters stand out on the menu, and fresh oysters are exceptionally clean and cut nicely off the shell. A smoked fish dip app is delicious, and the wine-by-the-glass list is interesting, especially for white wine. In a fun nod, chef Brant Teske puts Hellmann’s mayo on the lobster roll but Duke’s mayo on his po-boy. The hush puppies feel more akin to fried corn fritters." - Stephanie Burnette

Google
Oh my goodness. What a wonderful find Jones Oyster is. Stopped by for a late lunch today. Very accommodating reception, super nice staff let us choose our seats and we luckily sat at the bar, closest to the kitchen so we could see staff and all the food coming out. Gorgeous food, large portions. I had half a dozen chilled oysters, then ordered a half dozen more. The best oysters I’ve had since Key West, super cold, no grit or shell - fantastic and they have a happy hour when oysters are half price. We also had the hush puppies, delish. We split the fish (cod) and fries and it’s plenty for two. Listening to the kitchen staff laugh and work together so well, I’m certain Jones is a great place to work. Icing on the cake was Emma, the bartender. Sweetest, most pleasant person ever. Highly recommend this place, next time I go I’ll also have a shrimp louie salad, it looked amazeballs.

Came in for dinner on a weeknight, getting there right around 6PM they were pretty busy, but since it was just me, I got a seat at the bar. Service the entire stay was excellent and very attentive! They have a nice wine list, both by the bottle and by the glass; as well as a decent list of cocktails. They had some interesting items on their seasonal menu, like the corn bisque, so I started with a bowl of it. The serving looked great and tasted pretty good. Next up was the entrée and since the fish of the day was sablefish, I opted for it blackened in a sandwich with fries. When the sandwich came out, the fish was broken into two large chunks, which made it tough to eat on a sandwich without it falling apart. The bun and sauce was really good, so was the fish. The fries were soggy, like they needed to be par fried and then fried before service, but the flavor of the seasoning was really good on them. Overall, it was a nice visit. I liked the food, even if the fries and sandwich weren’t served well. I’d most definitely return and can see why it’s a popular place. So much of the food I saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing.

Had lunch at this trendy seafood restaurant. Not a lot of seating so time accordingly. I ordered a fried clam roll and salad. My friend ordered a lobster roll (with mayo, which in my opinion, is sacrilegious). They also offered lobster rolls with melted butter. Salad was very good as was the dressing. The clam roll was good, but I detected a hint of old bay in the batter. And they could put a few more whole bellies for the price. I counted 7-8. My friend said the lobster roll was good. I thought it lacked large chunks of lobster meat. They had a full house at lunch. I would probably not go back when in town, but overall, it was a good experience. I am a native Rhode Islander and put a high bar when it comes to seafood.

Google
Best restaurant experience that I have had in a very long time! Everyone was so nice and accommodating to the kids also there was no wait. We got seated immediately in front of the window and our food came out quickly. The food was delicious (I had the lobster roll and the kids had fish nuggets) we even ordered some key lime pie. Oh the drink in the picture was an old fashioned and my kids both wanted the tree so the staff brought me another with a reindeer on it so both kids could have one. When we left one of the kids couldn't find their reindeer but the staff found it and ran down the sidewalk after us and gave it too us. Absolutely insane service. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Google
My girlfriend and I loved this restaurant! The oysters were phenomenal! And the fries were SO GOOD! I could eat eat a bucket of them! Trisha was our waitress and she was so friendly! She was kind enough to give us other recommendations for bakeries and restaurants during our stay in Greenville. We would definitely come back in a heartbeat!

Google
Great lobster roll. Tried NOLA oysters for the first time, they were pretty good. Also had a sample of the fish dip which was really great. Great customer service from the bartender and all of the servers

Google
This was my first time here! I went on a Saturday, which was super busy. We had to wait for an hour, but it was worth it. I got seated at the bar, and the bartender was super friendly and welcoming. We ordered a few things to share. The chef’s choice oysters were okay—some were a bit too bland for my taste. But the hush puppies are absolutely delicious! Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. For the main dish, we shared the Connecticut-style lobster rolls—and wow, they were amazing! The lobster was so fresh and sweet. If they used just a little less butter, it would have been perfect. I’ll definitely be back to try more! 🍽️🔥

Google
This is a great place! We went abot 5:30 on a Friday and had to wait about 35 minutes to get a table not bad at all. The whole staff was super friendly. The hostess was very nice and gave suggestions on the meals! The bartenders were quick and very nice as well. We had the best server nhe was very knowledgeable and was always checking on us throughout the whole meal the hostess even came over at the end and made sure we had a excellent experience! Will definitely be back. Oh and the food was amazing definitely get the hush puppies!!

Yelp
Just an outstanding meal. The service was superb. The ambiance is great, reminding me of some seafood places in Maine. It's busy and may be loud, but that simply proves that it is good. They don't take reservations so plan accordingly. They will serve you the "bar" outside. People were sipping drinks and eating oysters outside as we waited. We struck up several conversations with people outside and really enjoyed waiting (believe to or not.). We ordered a beer and wine and enjoyed our friends who were eating with us. The seafood was excellent, fresh and prepared with expertise. The oysters were perfect! Definitely a go to seafood place in Greenville.

Yelp
4.5 Great small but very fresh seafood place. They were out of most of the raw oysters . However we tried the baked oysters .... delicious and don't forget the bread in buttery sauce. Amazing! Fish (Catch of the day) Cobia sandwiches.. fresh tasty tender and amazing. . Also i dont like hushpuppies.. but theirs are amazing hot and fresh. Service was good. Only " bad " thing was smell of cigarette smoke from people waiting for a table.. this smoke filtered and diffused through the first two rows of seated patrons. (Note windows to the street were open as this was a warm evening ( We will still go back but hope management can adjust smoke in some manner.

Yelp
Fresh oysters in downtown Greenville! Happy to find this little spot. We were so hungry and wanted some good seafood. We were seated inside. Loved the giant windows. Such a beautiful day! We started off with 1/2 dozen of oysters on the half shell and cocktails. Love that we were given a complimentary sample of the fish dip. So good! We loved the oysters too. Since we were so close to happy hour, we got another 1/2 dozen when happy hour started (2pm - 5pm). For lunch, my husband ordered the fresh grilled mahi sandwich with asparagus. I ordered the oyster po boy with seasoned fries. Both meals came with cole slaw, which I loved! My husband thought it was too dry. I don't like were Cole slaw so it was perfect. Definitely a preference thing. Both our entrees were great. My husband's sandwich was so delicious. I stole a bite. Highly recommend! Service was good. Our server was kind. No complaints!

Yelp
Nice spot for lunch in Greenville. Easy parking outside if you can find it. Food was great. Warm lobster roll was the best I've had. Hush puppies were crispy and soft inside. Key lime pie was tasty. Great meal overall

Yelp
We just happened by this place. It was quaint, small place so it fills up quick. They were nice and we sat at the bar for lunch. The bar tender was very friendly. The food was so flavorful. Being from New England the whole belly clams were on point. Crispy with no sand and a French bun; how it's supposed to be served! I'll be back for that!!! The clam chowder was creamy and full of clams and potatoes (diced nicely and small). The oysters were cooked to perfection with garlic and butter and cheesy topping. Freshly fried potatoe chips and coleslaw was plain, the way I like it. Bon appetito!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome all around place. We were in town from Kansas City and it was great to have this fresh of fish. You could tell the difference. I had the lobster roll which was phenomenal and so did my wife. The atmosphere was really cool too, that on the pier/on the water feel with being in the heart of South Carolina. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I was recently passing through Greenville and decided to take in a leisurely lunch. We got lucky and picked this fine establishment. They have a fun, casual, yet upscale interior. A full bar, excellent wait staff, and a fine raw bar with varied seafood menu are all available here. I had the Charleston Shrimp burger and my friend had a fabulous lobster roll. The food was amazing and fresh. They even run a happy hour half shell oyster time starting at 2:00, which was a fantastic value.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in Greenville for a night while on our way to Charleston. We decided on this restaurant for dinner. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We tried both the Maine and Connecticut Lobster Rolls, both very tasty. My mother loved her grilled red snapper. Oysters were perfect. Ambiance is a little bright for dinner, but it makes sense for the type of establishment this is. Wait time was 20 minutes, so we stopped in to Connolly's next door for a drink and they texted us when our table was ready. Very satisfied!

Yelp
Fried rice with crab! Delicious with egg on top! Also the buttery lobster roll! Great local hangout.
google avatar

Yelp
The Jones Oyster Co. is probably the best seafood I've had in Greenville. Perfect for a quick bite with a friend or partner and then go for a stroll downtown as it is central to everything. Very kind and speedy service, the waiters are very friendly and knowledgeable of their menus. I came here for a birthday lunch with my boyfriend and the food was absolutely amazing. We opted for a mix of oysters and dip as an appetizer and I had a lobster roll with chips as the entree. The ambiance is also super clean and fresh with seating by the window to people watch. Overall super tasty, delicious, and fresh seafood, we will be back here!
google avatar

Yelp
Been here a couple times now, and I haven't been disappointed yet. I recommend the clam chowder, charbroiled oysters, and lobster roll. The crab rice leaned overly salty with all the bacon, and the shrimp burger was so-so. We sat at the bar, and service was attentive, friendly, and engaging. Loved watching all the chefs cook and smelling all the smells! This is a very popular spot, so the wait may be a while but certainly worth it!

Maria B.

Yelp
We're still sitting here and just finished our raw oysters!! Some of the best we've had! Nishayah is the hostess and is amazing and so personable and is great at her job! Our server Aleisha is knowledgeable, friendly, sweet, and one of the best servers we've had. The New England clam chowder that my husband had was creamy and delicious! And service is quick! I can't wait for my Shrimp Louie salad and my husband's Connecticut Lobster Roll!!! It will be our go-to restaurant in Greenville! Okay, the Shrimp Louie salad was delicious! The asparagus and shrimp were cooked perfectly! The Connecticut Lobster Roll was perfect, and those homemade chips were the perfect accompaniment. We'll be back!

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance, everything gets a 5/5! A very popular seafood place in Greenville, the restaurant is cute and fills up very quickly. If you do not come for a late lunch or early dinner, expect the wait to be long, especially because they don't take reservations! We tried the restaurant mid-week but it was still pretty busy. We were lucky to get the last table. We were party of 3 adults and a child. We ordered two appetizers, the hush puppies and the smoked Carolina fish dip. We also ordered three Pull and eat shrimp plates and a dozen grilled oysters. The appetizer is served with crackers and is just the right amount of crunch, fish, etc. the shrimps had a deliciously delicate flavor. I really enjoyed them. The hush puppies were cooked perfectly, and so were the oysters which tasted perfect with Parmesan on top accompanied with bread. This place is a must try if you are in Greenville. The next time I visit, it'll be the first restaurant on my list!
google avatar

Christine D.

Yelp
Great food and service! Awesome atmosphere with an open air bar at the front. We had oysters, clam chowder, hush puppies and the peel and eat shrimp. All was really good!
google avatar

Kathleen H.

Yelp
Aleisha did an amazing job. I was traveling by myself so she made sure to check on me throughout the evening. Asked for the tartar sauce on the side since I wasn't sure how sweet or if it would have too much mayonnaise. Perfect seasoning to the sauce & not too heavy. Great evening!
google avatar

Susan Q.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!! We went for a late lunch and only had a 10 minute wait. We both had the catch of the day. Flounder on a brioche roll. Well seasoned. Cole slaw and grilled asparagus also very tasty. Excellent service from Courtney!!!
google avatar

Keisha C.

Yelp
My favorite seafood restaurant in Greenville! I always get raw oysters plus a new item each visit. The staff is always great and the music is excellent! I also love the Oyster Roasts in the winter!
google avatar

Jan B.

Yelp
Best place for oysters in Greenville. It's worth the wait. The Jones Oyster Co. shucked me right outta my socks. Walked in expecting a casual seafood fix--walked out wondering if I could legally marry a grilled oyster. The NOLA Grilled Gulf Oysters? Smoky, buttery, and borderline seductive. The mahi-mahi spread + hush puppies combo? Let's just say if it were a band, I'd follow it on tour. Service was next-level friendly--one of our crew had mobility issues and they handled it with such kindness (plus a surprise dessert that made us feel like VIPs at a coastal seafood Grammy party). Heads-up: no reservations, so expect a wait. But honestly, I'd camp outside for this place like it's 1999 and they're dropping concert tickets. 11/10--will be back, and probably writing love poems to their oysters in the meantime.

Yelp
Food and staff were A+. Definitely a must have when in Greenville. Definitely recommend the bread pudding. YUM!!!
google avatar

Anita G.

Yelp
A second visit when passing through didn't disappoint. Crab fried rice, Connecticut lobster roll with fries, and peach bourbon bread pudding were yummy!!
google avatar

Allison H.

Yelp
YUMMMMM. Swung by this place for some oysters and I regret not coming hungrier. Ordered the chef's choice dozen, which was three varieties from VA. They were delicious. My partner ordered the lobstah roll and the lobstah to roll ratio was very much in favor of the lobstah. Our server was fantastic. They were super friendly and made us feel right at home. Will definitely be back, but with a bigger appetite!
google avatar

Ty Q.

Yelp
We enjoyed our beverages and oysters in this well-appointed restaurant in the heart of Greenville. We were quickly seated upon arrival and received timely service through our meal. The oysters were tasty. Thanks!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing fish dip and oysters! Fantastic service and just a great place to hang out and watch the game.
google avatar

Yelp
Blown away with The Jones Oyster companies commitment to being the best in South Carolina (not just the Upstate) Manager Clem and his fantastic team of people like Alicia exceed expectation every time! Well worth the wait folks, get to this place and show them some love
google avatar

Gil G.

Yelp
Mostly good. One bad. The four of us all enjoyed our meals. Connecticut Lobster Roll was plentiful but I had to ask for extra melted butter. Fish and chips were well liked too, as was the Shrimp Roll. However, we all found the fried to be WAY too salty and would not choose them again OR ask to eliminate the heavy seasoning. Service by Christian was outstanding. Good dialog and attention without hovering. We loved the atmosphere of the establishment although it was quite loud - which might be a consideration for folks who use hearing aids. We were quite fine with the vibe. We will definitely return.

Kyle Summer G.

Yelp
Delicious ! Great vibe - amazingly fresh food - wonderful, friendly staff ! Had a mix of the raw oysters - and a dozen chargrilled - all fantastic ! Shared a warm lobster roll that was decadent ! Can't wait to go back and try several other menu items !
google avatar

Tia K.

Yelp
Perfect spot for lunch downtown! The restaurant is small but lively. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Everything we tried was delicious! The hush puppies and fish dip are perfect starters. The Connecticut lobster roll was simple but delicious and the crab rice is a must try! We had the scorched orchard and tequila from mars cocktails and both were tasty.
google avatar

Peggy H.

Yelp
I love this place! If you're an oyster fan, you owe it to yourself to eat here. There were several east and west coast oysters on the menu tonight and they were all delicious! My favorites were the Ichabod Flats. They were sweet and buttery, with a hint of a briny finish. Service was great! Friendly and knowledgeable. The place is so popular and there's a super fun atmosphere. If there's a wait, and there almost always is, stick it out. It's worth it!

Celeste 1.

Yelp
Fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the oysters and cocktails. Super staff and food. It's a nice place to relax and enjoy your meal.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
A really good food experience (oysters, lobster rolls, and clam chowder) - the wait can be long since they don't take reservations but once seated service was quick. My experience at the bar while waiting for our table wasn't as pleasant. I didn't realize I didn't have my ID and was refused service - totally understandable, policy is policy. However, it left a bad taste in my mouth when, once seated, we watched the bartender round up our server to inform them to not serve me and also put her manager on notice. Had I not offered to show a picture of my ID or other proof of age (the fact that we were celebrating my Master's graduation for instance), I might not have been so bothered by this involvement of all other parties. I heard you on the policy the first time, not trying to pull a fast one by trying to order from someone else.
google avatar

Debi R.

Yelp
Oysters were good. Great place for Happy Hour. Good cocktails and craft beers. Get there early to get a seat.
google avatar

Seairra M.

Yelp
Great food and an even more amazing staff! I wasn't sure of the wine they had and the waitress was even nice enough to let me have a taste or two.
google avatar

Teresa H.

Yelp
Excellent selection of raw oysters and many prep options from raw, steamed, roasted or grilled. Had a fabulous fresh fish of the day blackened mahi fillet. Great wine list. Small venue but awesome service. Get there early.
google avatar

Freddy C.

Yelp
Excellent oyster selection and extremely professional and friendly staff. Looking forward to the next visit.
google avatar

Lindsay J.

Yelp
Updated review: Jones is top 3 restaurant in town. Food and service consistently delivers. Only two small complaints: 1) they have changed their home-made chips. Used to be amazing, now totally unremarkable. 2) I wish the menu was a little more varied: add a fish plate or two, rather than just sandwiches, a smoked fish plate, rather than just dip...maybe a hamachi or crudo. A little variety for the regulars!
google avatar

Chad E.

Yelp
WOW.....What an experience!!! The service was top notch from the moment I walked in and never let up!!! The bar staff were great and gave great recommendations on the food. I started with 1/2 dozen raw oysters and a sample of the smoked fish dip.....both were Amazing!!! The I had the Blackened Wahoo Sandwich with fries.......and finished the evening off with the BREAD PUDDING......Ya'll that stuff was INCREDIBLE!!! Look forward to coming back soon and try something else. The atmosphere was just right as well! Thanks again!!! 11/10 RECOMMEND
google avatar

Yelp
When I say everything here was delicious!!!! The drinks were perfect, fish dip was incredible. Overall experience was great even got to watch the Georgia -Clemson game.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
I love this place. The bartender and staff were amazing. Their oysters were meaty , tasty and needed little seasoning and their shrimp Po Boy sandwich was delicious. This is definitely a repeat visit when I return here in April.
google avatar

Renee P.

Yelp
There are no words!!!! Absolutely delicious!! Small but food plants a powerful punch to the taste buds. Please go for drinks and oysters. Plus the hush puppies. Wonderful

John C.

Yelp
Food was outstanding Service was great. I believe Alicia was our fantastic server. Highly recommend when in Greenville
google avatar

Stefanie B.

Yelp
We live 50 miles away & made 2 trips just to eat here & it was definitely worth it! Pack your patience, because you will have to wait because the secret is out. It's small but cool venue that offers the most amazing seafood! I had the Maine Lobster Roll & it was superb! The drinks are delicious as well! The staff is super attentive! This place is definitely on "repeat " for us!
google avatar

Sharita C.

Yelp
This a cute spot located in downtown Greenville. They have a bar, and an open window with high top stools where you can sit and look out to the street. The offer raw oysters and also have grilled option as well. I ordered the NOLA grilled oysters, the cheese hush puppies, and the Connecticut lobster roll and everything was soooooo dang good!!! The manager came out with a sample of the fish dip, AMAZING!!! I sat at the bar and was served by Emma and she suggested the Cayeya Reposado and it's the best tequila I've had outside of Mexico! If you have time and love oysters and lobster rolls please stop by, you will not be disappointed!!! Thanks Emma and staff, everyone was friendly and asked how I enjoyed my lunch! And the offer a military discount!!
google avatar

Donnice S.

Yelp
Great service and excellent atmosphere. The Corvina blackened sandwich was amazing. I highly recommend. Come early. No reservations.

Stef L.

Yelp
Great service and very clean dining area. I don''t put 5 stars because my french fries was a bit burn and the clam chowder has more onion or celery than the clam. Lobster Roll would be perfect if there was melt garlic butter.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
The variety of oysters really opened my eyes to all the different flavors. From sweet to salty they were all fantastic. The shrimp burger was excellent too. And the service is among the best I have ever had at any restaurant in any city around the world. Highly recommended for anyone in the area, or even if you have to drive from Atlanta to experience it.
google avatar

Brenda T.

Yelp
When you make it to Greenville and it's too early for your hotel check in, swing by this cozy spot for a taste of the sea. As a solo diner today, I was seated at the pretty bar closest to the action of the kitchen. An ideal front row seat to the chef grilling oysters and the ultimate "picture" menu in real life as plate after delicious plate passed in front of me. I ordered the clam chowder (which was creamy perfection) with oyster crackers, and grilled oysters with bread for dipping into the garlic butter goodness at the bottom of the pan. A delicious and satisfying meal! A big thank you to Emma who was so personable and provided excellent care from start to finish. The restaurant was packed, and she expertly floated from behind the bar and throughout the space, navigating tight corners, refilling water, delivering food, clearing dishes and all with a smile. A very memorable experience. I will return.

Yelp
Had dinner and a beer with a friend of mine tonight at this spot. The Oysters were good and from a variety of places. I'm used to Va Beach where the happy hours are until 6, so $4 Oysters felt a little pricey to me. The waitress was okay. We finished our meal, drank the remaining drink, and I used the bathroom and she still hadn't checked on us. I got up to get our ticket because my friend genuinely thought that's what we were supposed to do. She apologized for getting busy but there were 4-5 other employees standing at the door. She may have been the only one running around. The place was quiet until til it got busy. I'd be back but I'd make sure to hit the happy hour times.
google avatar

Shanoah N.

Yelp
Walked in as soon as I seen the menu. Out of town we here, still dreaming about the fish dip and baked oysters. Definitely will be making my way back here one day. Started off with some happy hour oysters and some oyster shooters. When they passed around some fish dip samples, we needed to order it. Then they talked us into getting the baked oysters, so happy we did. I will dream about these until I taste them again. Staff was very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. The place is just date night/girls night/ even dinner for one atmosphere.
