What do you look for when you visit a bar or cocktail lounge? I usually look for not just well- made drinks, but also tasty food, a variety of beer, good atmosphere, attentive service, easy parking- a little bit of everything, really. And an establishment that easily pushes all of my buttons the right way is The Kid, an eating and drinking establishment located in the Houston Heights area.
The Kid Houston was built from a former tire shop, and it features a large interior and two patios. Parking is available free onsite, but during crowded days/nights you may need to find parking on a nearby street. There are even a few extras at The Kid, like a pool table, and a nice assortment of specialty cocktails and beer.
Food at The Kid is limited, but you will love what they serve. The burgers are made from high quality beef and an added appetizer is a good idea to start things off, before the main course. I love their Queso Verde, and there are other worthwhile options, too, like Hummus & Pita, Sirloin Rice Cakes, etc. The full- service bar has you covered with any drink that suits you, but I recommend trying one of the innovative cocktails, like the Yet Another Bluebonnet Photo or Let That Mango.
The inside of The Kid features dim lighting, giving it a more intimate feel. If you prefer the natural light, then I recommend heading outdoors to one of the two patios. Oh, and if you’re the type who likes to be surrounded by adults only, you will appreciate that The Kid doesn’t allow kids past 7pm.
In summary, The Kid is a place that has it all. From the easy parking, to the quality food and drink, to the attentive service, The Kid has all the qualities I like in a bar, cocktail lounge, and bar & grill all melded into one. It’s a cool place in the Houston Heights, ready to grace you with its presence.
