Houston's Restaurant & Bar Openings - Houston - The Infatuation

"Flying Saucer and Rodeo Goat have teamed up to turn the former Flying Fish space into a late-night spot for burgers and booze. They offer Rodeo Goat menu classics like the jalapeño-loaded Bodacious Burger, plus craft beers, a punny cocktail list with drinks like the “Let That Mango" margarita, and bar snacks like party dip and charcuterie plates from local cheese heroes Houston Dairymaids." - brooke viggiano, gianni greene, chelsea thomas

What do you look for when you visit a bar or cocktail lounge? I usually look for not just well- made drinks, but also tasty food, a variety of beer, good atmosphere, attentive service, easy parking- a little bit of everything, really. And an establishment that easily pushes all of my buttons the right way is The Kid, an eating and drinking establishment located in the Houston Heights area. The Kid Houston was built from a former tire shop, and it features a large interior and two patios. Parking is available free onsite, but during crowded days/nights you may need to find parking on a nearby street. There are even a few extras at The Kid, like a pool table, and a nice assortment of specialty cocktails and beer. Food at The Kid is limited, but you will love what they serve. The burgers are made from high quality beef and an added appetizer is a good idea to start things off, before the main course. I love their Queso Verde, and there are other worthwhile options, too, like Hummus & Pita, Sirloin Rice Cakes, etc. The full- service bar has you covered with any drink that suits you, but I recommend trying one of the innovative cocktails, like the Yet Another Bluebonnet Photo or Let That Mango. The inside of The Kid features dim lighting, giving it a more intimate feel. If you prefer the natural light, then I recommend heading outdoors to one of the two patios. Oh, and if you’re the type who likes to be surrounded by adults only, you will appreciate that The Kid doesn’t allow kids past 7pm. In summary, The Kid is a place that has it all. From the easy parking, to the quality food and drink, to the attentive service, The Kid has all the qualities I like in a bar, cocktail lounge, and bar & grill all melded into one. It’s a cool place in the Houston Heights, ready to grace you with its presence.

Really liked this cool new spot. We enjoy cocktail lounges for the vibes, and this has it. Friendly customers, cute and knowledgeable staff, fun environs, what's not to like? . I had simple gin and tonics, but they were well made. My wife thought her negroni was tasty as well. . The Manager started our stay with a bowl of hot nuts. I forget how good this snack is! Then we had the sirloin rice cakes, which was good as well. I also had the Bodacious Burger with fantastic crunchy tots. . Next time will try out their beer program, and there will be a next time.

Google
Everything about this place is perfect. Incredible food, delightful service, wonderfully, thoughtfully crafted cocktails. Whatever your vibe is, you’ll find it here. Not to mention the parking is ample so if you’re trying to bar hop, there’s so many places nearby but honestly, why would you want to go anywhere else?

Google
This is a great new spot, clean, friendly staff, great service. One of the best burgers I’ve had. Highly recommended!! Five stars across the board!!! And, they have the ability to host groups in a private room with a pool table.

Google
I’ve been to just about every bar in this city and The Kid is top notch. The food and atmosphere is fantastic. Not too many bars give service like these guys do. It will be a weekly stop for me. Great job!

Google
Undiscovered gem! Stopped in to decompress and try something new, and the kid has all the vibes I've been looking for. Cozy, intimate... has that high-end speakeasy vibe that I love. Had the best manhattan I've ever had by this very sweet chick in a hat who was so attentive. She recommended the sirloin rice cakes which were off the charts... definitely high-end bar food. I know this place passes itself off like it's a dive bar but it's far from it. Gives me the same vibes as the Virgin Hotel in New Orleans... a sexy, spooky haunt that knows it's secretly classy. 10/10... will go back.

Google
This is a fun bar. A windowless less building that's a bit dark inside, an odd pimped out painting of William H Bonnie and music that can be just about anything from one song to the next. The food was surprisingly good and the drink prices were decent. I liked it, its different, and they have plenty of seating if you're usually meeting up with a few friends. It's worth a stop.

Yelp
We intentionally came to The Heights from Cypress to try The Kid - Houston after hearing about it on this page. The vibe is California meets Texas cocktail lounge with modern booths, tables and comfy chairs around the bar. Playing a great selection of music at a pleasant volume with a/c that beats the heat. We love Happy Hour ( see picture) and theirs is from 4-7pm. We tried all the $8 cocktails and I loved the "19th and Durham" and the refreshing "La Fresita". My girl loved the "Daquiri with a Kick" "Ruby's Party Platter" ($9) is a great combination of dips (queso verde was fave) with fresh pita and chips and the special on Thursday ($11) is their "Bodacious Burger" with tots. We chose beef but there is a chicken and vegan option. It comes with American cheese, bacon, crispy onions, jalapeño mayo and BBQ sauce. This was one of the best burgers we've had in awhile. Cooked to order, the patty had amazing flavor outside of the savory toppings. In a connected spacious room there is extra seating with a pool table and outside patio. Our bartender Jen was friendly and on point, making sure the drinks tasted the way they were intended. Waitress and other staff were great too. Asa Hanrahan greeted us and made sure we were being taken care of, great to meet him. What a great addition to The Heights. Our experience will have us coming back soon. You should do likewise!

Yelp
Without writing a novel, here are the bare facts. Rude bartender, good food, sloppy operation, drunk staff, nice ambiance, incompetent (young) management, solid beverage program potential. With over 20years of developing food and beverage concepts in Houston, I was looking forward to seeing the new fusion between Rodeo Goat and The Flying Saucer in my heights neighborhood. What better night than White Linnen Night? We were greeted by a young lady with a baseball hat. Just asking to see a cocktail menu seemed to have upset her. As we looked over the drink selection I could overhear her saying how badly she didn't want to be there. Trust me, we could tell. We closed out at the bar and walked around the space. I enjoy the dim lit areas inside. We sat down at a table and looked over the food menu. We began socializing with the table next to us about the food, they seemed to enjoy it but had mentioned slow service. Although they were busy, I would assume they would have been prepared for this event and staffed properly. So, we made the decision to order with our waitress Veronica. She was delightful and knowledgeable. Although we did not experience slow service with our orders, we did notice the other table having to wave her down because their waitress was not around. I asked our waitress if we could buy her a shot and she replied that drinking isn't allowed for staff. Totally understandable, every establishment is different. We closed out with Veronica and went across the street. And that's when questions were answered. Remember the other tables that were having trouble finding their waitresses? I found them. They were running across the street to the other bar, taking shots with the bar team and patrons. Maybe it's my years in the F&B industry that makes me notice these things. As we stayed, we saw staff from the kid come and go to get a drink. (If feel like I should say our waitress never came over) I felt like I should mention something to the management of The Kid, (i would want to know if I was the owner) so I walked back over before heading home. I asked a waitress who the manager was and she pointed at a young lady. The same young lady that was across the street drinking. I asked when the GM would be in the building. I was then told she was the GM. It was then that I realized, my experience might never get heard if I left it up to her. I see plenty of potential in this place. But it's being run by children. Thanks Veronica, let us know when you become bartender!

Yelp
Stopped by during white linen and this was the perfect place to get away from all the chaos outside. It had that dark, moody, cinematic feel. As someone who appreciates natural lighting, the lack of windows didn't bother me at all. It contributed to overall vibe. They played hip hop/r&b music with pop mixed in which I enjoyed. Service was great as well! I decided to try their burger. I'm not sure the name of my burger, but it was basically a bacon cheeseburger. Unfortunately, it was just toooo salty to complete. Reason for the deducted star. I'd come back to try another food selection but overall it was a cute chill spot and I'm happy to give it another try.

Yelp
Came for the event I captured on Yelp about the $1 sliders and cotails, I missed out on the the sliders but was blessed with an old fashion drink. It was sweet and strong! Thank you for the blessing the bystander customer who passed on his $1 ticket for me and my friend to cash out on the old fashioned drinks! We plan to be back Unfortunately The sliders are not part of the menu, only served for the event for one buck but look amazing. And the tots also looked amazing. We plan to return. Than you for the the invite and bandannas.

Yelp
Mixed feelings about this place! Service was great - I don't know the name of the bartender who served us but she did a fantastic job checking in on us. The beer and cocktails were also well priced. The beer was served in large and very cold glass - much appreciated. The burger was very average and was way overcooked. At least not overpriced. Food menu is not extensive. The vibe was not super cohesive between the outside - which was a bright and spacious patio - and the inside which was very dark with pretty loud music. They have 1 dart board and 1 pool table inside. If they have 2 pool tables, I think the inside vibe would improve. Not sure I will come back anytime soon, but also not saying you shouldn't check it out.

Yelp
The burgers here are amazing. I went two days in a row. They are my next favorite burger next to Pappas burger. It's super dark on the inside. So when you walk outside the light is a bit blinding. They have these murals on the wall that displays the history of this building. It's super cool. The drinks are strong. I would def recommend coming back to this place

Yelp
The Kid is the newest cocktail lounge off of 19th Street in the Houston Heights and seems to be a little confused on their aesthetic and general vibe. The bar is located in an old converted service station with the outdoor canopy area converted to a large outdoor seating space. A patio bar you would think, but no. Enter the inside and you are immediately immersed in a very dark room. There are literally no windows and is so dark that I had to use my cell phone light to read the menu. The bar plays dated country songs with a touch tune device on the wall which is pay per song and in itself limited in the song selections. No Bad Bunny? What? The bar area is fairly nice but the surrounding tables are covered with brown table cloths that look like they came out of a 1990s pool hall. It's giving mixed messages on whether it's trying to be a cocktail bar or a dive. They offer a number of signature cocktails including a $24 martini flight which comes with four mini size martinis. This is probably the best deal in the house as a regular espresso martini will set you back $15. This is too high in my opinion for a cocktail made without espresso. Overall, I'm glad I got to try out this spot out after seeing it be promoted on social media but am not so sure that I will be back.

Yelp
I love having basically rodeo goat in my backyard instead of driving and dealing with parking in Eado. The burgers are just as good as rodeo goat. The tater tots were fire! Only negative as the ambiance. It's way too dark and the theme isn't really cohesive. Staff are super nice!

Yelp
The place is super nice, my first time here on a Sunday. The bartender was so rude, it wasn't even busy, there was no one at the bar ordering. I came and we asked what kind of beer they have and the bartender threw the menu and said, beer can be found in the back, I was like, seriously?? I didn't even want to ask if she had seltzers or what kind, I was scared to ask. I like it here but honestly she was so rude. I don't think I want to come back because of her attitude.

Yelp
Located in the heights. Has indoor and outdoor parking. Service is quick. Their food options are limited but have enough selections for mainly being a bar. The atmosphere from inside and out has different feelings but it is still enjoyable. They have 1 pool table but a second pool table would be ideal.

Yelp
Very cool little bar. Found it on accident by my tattoo shop. Its really dark which my friends were kinda shocked with but it grows on you real fast. Got some beers and a big Mo cocktail. Had to wait a minute to play pool because they only had 1 table but the vibes were on for sure. I didn't eat but the burger looked bomb. Gotta get it next time through.

Yelp
Neat place that feels like a neighborhood bar. Drinks weren't terribly expensive, but aren't cheap either. They have classic cocktails and more unique ones. They don't have a large beer selection, but the ones they have are great.

Yelp
Great! Finally a regular bar in the Heights.... I'm tired of all the different concepts this place actually gets it. Could probably have a slightly better liquor selection.

Yelp
The Kid is a top notch addition to the Heights! The super low light makes a statement upon entry. From the 5 star perfectly balanced service, impeccable snack faire, not overpriced cocktails, and the amenities make this a must visit establishment! Run, don't walk!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Some of the best food in Houston, a killer Cocktail menu, IPAs that were kegged a day before being tapped, TouchTunes, pool and darts. Where else in Houston can you find a place where you don't have to search for parking, and you can walk in and get a Duvel on tap? Friendly staff and awesome owner!! 10/10.

Yelp
Awesome experience with hosting a group of my fraternity alumni.. we will now be hosting consistent group outings after an amazing experience.

Yelp
The Kid is a great new edition to the Heights. Great food, great service, great pricing on drinks. Bar has a cool feel to it and I'll be returning regularly

Yelp
Awesome spot! The sirloin rice cakes are SO good. Tried the rattlesnake sangria too -- really delish and had a nice little kick. Amazing vibe, great service.
