Nationals Park Welcomes More Female Chefs to Grace’s Kitchen - Eater DC

"The Nationals Park food stand that recently replaced one of scandal-plagued restaurateur Mike Isabella’s dining ventures is now expanding to include offerings from more female chefs, hospitality professionals, and restaurateurs. Starting on Tuesday, May 15, the new concession stand — named in honor of Calvin Coolidge’s wife, who was a big baseball fan — will start serving meatball sandwiches from Pizzeria Paradiso’s Ruth Gresser, as well as a grain bowl with quinoa and cauliflower rice from Ris Lacoste of Ris. And Gina Chersevani from Buffalo & Bergen will serve an iconic drink found at her Union Market stand: the Lox’d & Load’d, a lox mini-everything bagel atop a bloody mary made with vodka from Republic Restoratives. They join existing fare from Grace’s Kitchen inaugural chefs: Top Chef alum Carla Hall and Hank’s Oyster Bar founder Jamie Leeds, who added Nashville hot chicken sandwiches and mac and cheese and shrimp po’boys, respectively, to the menu last month." - Tierney Plumb

We recently hosted a corporate event at The Kitchen at Grace Meadows Farm, and every aspect exceeded our expectations. From the very beginning, the planning process was seamless. The staff was not only professional and accommodating but also incredibly kind, attentive, and detail-oriented. They went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. The food was absolutely phenomenal — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our guests are still raving about the meal! Whether it was the vegetables, the BEST fried chicken, white fish, pulled pork, the ROLLS, or desserts, everything was crafted with care and served with Southern hospitality. The venue itself is charming and welcoming, providing the perfect backdrop for a memorable event. It was clear that the team truly cares about the experience they provide. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to host our event and we will absolutely be back. Highly recommend for any private or corporate gathering — you won’t be disappointed!

Very satisfied with the family-style dinner we enjoyed today. It was my family's first visit to celebrate a birthday, and there were ten in our party. There was no wait and service was excellent. The atmosphere was laid-back and chill with pleasant scenery.

Atmosphere is institutional farm. White wood slatted walls, wood floor, and wooden tables and chairs. Don't think Cracker Barrel - the Kitchen doesn't look like Minnie Pearl blew up in it. It's clean and comfortable in a utilitarian sense. The service was attentive, courteous, and accurate. The food is served family style. Your table chooses two meats and for sides and the food is served in common serving bowls. Refills on the meat and sides are free. Each person also gets a dessert. No to-go boxes are allowed except for the desert. The price is $22 a person. The food is ample on the first serving. We didn't finish all of ours. The food flavor is sometimes lacking. We enjoyed the fried chicken. It was crispy and flavorful. The pot roast however, was bland. Putting the gravy on it (the gravy was flavorful) didn't help the roast itself. Perhaps it had been in the pot boiling too long. Whatever, I can't recommend the roast. The iced tea was good. The green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, and the sweet creamed corn were all good. The blueberry pie portion seemed small given the sizes of the sides. The ice cream was tasty. Would we go back? Probably but there are other places we want to explore.

This place is beutiful and just a great experience. It will be my new future places to go for celebrations . The fried chicken has to be the best in the Tri cities.

Google
Beautifully landscaped grounds, including a pond, that you're welcome to walk over and enjoy. Dining area a very large open space with tables properly spaced apart. Nice little gift section to browse through. Server was prompt with service & very friendly. Loved the atmosphere & food was delicious as well as affordable. I had the sausage (spicy & delicious) scrambled eggs, grits & homemade biscuits. Plan on making this my go-to spot anytime family comes to town!

Google
Great food (especially the warm yeast rolls!) at an excellent value in a beautiful farm setting. My husband has tried fried chicken from all over and says theirs might be the best. My kids love that you get more of whatever you finish for "free" and that they get to choose their own desserts. The creamy ice cream is also delicious! Our whole family loves this place, and based on the often-packed parking lot, so do many others.

Google
Highly recommend The Kitchen. The atmosphere, indoor & outdoor, is incredibly peaceful. We had a fairly large party but the service was on point. As for the food, best fried chicken I've ever had, several in our party said the same. The catfish was also on point but the steak and gravy was not. The sides were mostly good, with the exception of the Mac & cheese, but I personally don't care for baked Mac & cheese. Overall, my family and I will be back. For a family style restaurant, the pricing was about average.

Google
Great place to eat. The food is outstanding, endless truly means endless, the only thing that sucks is they don't allow taking leftovers home. Atmosphere is amazing. Staff are always running around and drink refills can occasionally take too long.

Yelp
Food is southern family style and you'll leave full to the brim! Service was good and the people so nice.

Yelp
Service was great! Food was pretty good overall. The turkey was dry, which was a bit surprising. However, the macaroni and cheese was fantastic, and the turkey had a gravy-bath from the mashed potatoes and gravy, so all was well in the end. The service was great. I know I've said this twice, but they deserve it. I don't get the name of the waitress, but whomever you are, thank you! Ambiance is interesting: the architecture makes the multi-hundred-head seating okay, as they've broken the place up into several break-out rooms. All in all, for just over the price of three sad, hairy Whoppers, you can eat this instead. I'd recommend eating this instead.

Yelp
This is a must go restaurant in the Bristol area. Cannot say enough about this restaurant. The way it works is each table of guests chooses two meats and receives our seasonal sides, hot yeast rolls, and each guest gets to choose a homemade dessert. The restaurant also grows as much produce as possible on their own farm. The building itself and the grounds it is nestled on were breathtaking. Service was very attentive and had that southern hospitality charm, especially since the restaurant is all you can eat, they were always there to bring refills on anything. The fried chicken and the catfish were easily the best fried chicken and catfish I've ever had. They both had extremely crispy breading and were packed with flavor. The green beans were so good I'm pretty sure I could eat them until I exploded. The mashed potatoes and gravy were packed with flavor as well. Add to that the unlimited warm rolls and this place knocked it out of the park. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Actually really, really surprisingly delicious. How it works: you order 5 sides and 2 meats. They had 7 options of sides and 5 options of meats. The host was kind. The service was fast. The drinks weren't included for all you can eat $21 meals. Kids under 4 years old eat free. The area was beautiful; farmhouse feels. Good ole southern food. The mac and cheese was phenomenal. The fried chicken was great. You request as you go and they bring it to you quickly. Oh... and that bread!! I would recommend to any party of 4 or more and come ready to eat!
google avatar

Marcus M.

Yelp
Had a really good experience here. It's a lot like Paula deans where you order certain items and they bring them to the table for everyone to share. Tired chicken was good along with the green beans. Also a great atmosphere and beautiful place to walk around
google avatar

Roshelle P.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem right outside JC. The fried chicken was excellent- the meatloaf was so-so (too much bell peppers for my liking). The mashed potatoes were spot on and the cream corn & green beans were super yummy. We were not huge fans of the mac&cheese and the carrot soufflé but there's so much else it's not a big deal. The location is beautiful- definitely worth the price.

Paul S.

Yelp
Good atmosphere with superb service by Grace. Best catfish I have ever eaten, no fishy taste. Good fried chicken cream corn, sweet potato casserole, green beans and apples. Good home made dessert if you have room or take it home. Owner is preset and visiting patrons. Nothing from a can. Sweet yeast rolls.what more could you ask!

Yelp
Lucky find! Beautiful setting, very gracious and friendly service and delicious food. We typically go to Farmers Daughter when in the area but happened upon this gem. I preferred the sides here over Farmers Daughter, and the meats were equally as tssty. Loved the fresh baked rolls with the buttery salty tops - only negative was I don't believe the butter was real butter, more like a buttery spread - sigh. Also, you can't take any leftovers with you. I totally understand if you have ordered seconds, but it would be nice to take home our original non-refilled items if we just can't finish them.. All in all, however, our experience was very pleasant, and we will be back.

Yelp
Home style southern food at its best! Beautiful setting, great service, excellent down home comfort food. Casual great place for the whole family, bring the grandparents and the children.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for the first time today and it was some of the best food we have ever eaten! Service was fast and friendly, and the food was so fresh. Our favorites were the fried catfish (super crispy and not greasy), yeast rolls (soft and buttery) and the Mac and cheese (ooey gooey cheesy delicious!!) Will definitely be back!!!

Kim M.

Yelp
The restaurant is in a country setting on beautiful property. There was a small wait but well worth it. The food was fantastic, we had fried chicken and roast beef. For sides we had Mac and cheese (wonderful), & creamed corn, also very good. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go again!
google avatar

Edward M.

Yelp
We went on Mother's Day and was told the wait would be about an hour and half to be seated, but we were seated after about an hour when they texted us. We killed time by looking around the store section and looking around the pond. The hostess was very nice and so was the servers. The food was hot and fresh. It cost about $21 per person for two meats, five sides, rolls and dessert. If you want anything other than water add $2.95. I think age four and under are free. The hayride is $4 per person to ride around the farm.

Jimmy J.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. Most excellent. Great food, beautiful views, clean, and great service.
google avatar

Ron P.

Yelp
Excellent food Excellent service Great view the wait staff is wonderful 10 star if I could give it

Yelp
Literally the worst breakfast I have ever eaten out. The plating was horrible, we had a good sized table and every single plate of food looked very unappealing and unappetizing. The eggs were blah, the pancakes were tough, every dish of the 9 of us was barley edible. Such a beautiful place but the food tastes like institutional food. Do not recommend it at all. Very disappointing .
google avatar

Shelby C.

Yelp
Our new favorite restaurant. The food is always spot on and you cannot beat the views
google avatar

Debra G.

Yelp
The reviews here are pretty good, so my hubby & I decided to check it out since we were in the area. Reviews are spot on for the most part. The rolls are a highlight & the food is pretty standard southern fare. You get lots of food, as in choices not just amount & the price is standard these days. The catfish....hands down, the BEST. I've had lots of catfish & I recommend you try on your 1st visit, so you don't miss ANY chance to enjoy it. The Salisbury steak was okay but a little table salt really amped it up, so there is a missed opportunity here for this dish to really shine with the right seasoning. (I regretted not getting the fried chicken after seeing it being delivered to another table.) Our meal included 5 of the 7 sides offered, so we didn't get the green beans & mac & cheese. All side dishes were good, but none of them really stood out....Mashed potatoes w/gravy (good, but didn't get the burst of flavor I was expecting-disappointing), creamed corn (very sweet), carrot souffle (creamy & fluffy), cornbread salad (never again-not my thing) & slaw (very crunchy & fresh, light flavor). Now the catfish & rolls are Fantastic, but the Real reason we'd return is because of the Service!!! (Nolen!!) Despite being very crowded, our party of two, walking in,were seated right away. The grounds are stunning & there are windows everywhere so you can enjoy the view no matter where you are sitting. Due to the family style serving, the food comes to the table quick, so Dig in quick, lest the hot foods get cold......but if your server is as charming as Nolen, just let em know & a new delivery of hot food arrives within moments! Nolen was warm & friendly, a perfect example of "Southern Charm & Politeness". My hubby & I (in our 60's, retired from CA) compared lives in common with Nolen, which tickled me. I truly hope he is still with Grace Meadows when we return! So although the food wasn't all that.....the items that Were, Really WERE & the grounds & Service were impeccable! We shall Certainly visit again when we're in the area! (We live closer to Nashville). 8/10. Give it a try. You'll walk out happy.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Large enough for a big party and yet perfect for a day out. The food was delicious and our conversation with the owner give us insight into his overall plan of being a family friendly, special occasion, or simple day out destination.

Lisa K.

Yelp
I couldn't recommend a restaurant more! 2 adult dinners, all you can eat including dessert and drinks... around $54 We average going here at least 3 times a month or more. The staff rocks and are that Southern friendly we know the area to be! To those who complain it's TOO MUCH FOOD... go somewhere in Gatlinburg they'll overcharge you for much less food!!! Everything Grace Meadows

Katy B.

Yelp
Very disappointed that you didn't reschedule an event during a Winter storm warning where everything else shut down. You refused refunds and did not offer a gift card or any type of restitution for those who prepaid (a requirement) for their ticket. I will not be a patron of this establishment anymore and definitely will not be recommending it to anyone. Don't put people's lives at risk for your own gain.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
The best rolls, very good sweet tea. The food is very good.. I'm kinda picky and I don't eat large portions. If you're ready to eat a lot it's worth the price.. but not if you or your group doesn't eat a lot. Service is great.
google avatar

Godwin T.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The ambiance was very special. Will definitely be back for dinner!

Richard C.

Yelp
Not worth the trip. Chicken overcooked with to much breading, hard and tough. Cream Corn was 90% flour and 10% Corn. No flavor, Rolls not home made. Store bought. Gummy Macaroni and cheese, Extremly overcooked and gooey. Will not make a second trip. Save your money.
google avatar

Day M.

Yelp
Whoa! That was A LOT OF FOOD! This place is crazy. If you leave hungry that's your fault. It's not gourmet by any measure. It's more of a country comfort food restaurant. The staff is friendly and quick on their feet. Since they close at 8pm, arrive early so you have time to do a little shopping before eating, because after you'll need a nap.

Sandy P.

Yelp
The property is breathtaking and the place is very clean. The food was tasty and our server was polite and friendly! We will eat here again.
google avatar

Erica C.

Yelp
Sadly I was disappointed in this restaurant. This place is family style and I have to say that another location that serves family style food is MUCH better and offers way more food of different varieties. The fried chicken was really good and really the only thing I liked. I didn't like the green beans or the corn. They both were odd tasting to me and my palate. The macaroni and cheese was baked and I hate baked Mac and cheese. What I thought was really odd was that there weren't any mashed potatoes. I can say that the atmosphere is absolutely stunning! I was in awe at how gorgeous it was. And the staff was great, super friendly and accommodating. If only the food was of my liking.... However, give this local restaurant a try, everyone has different likes and dislikes. Hopefully you will like it better than I did.

Tom G.

Yelp
We love the food that comes out of this kitchen! A lot of times we will do carryout just cause we aren't presentable to eat out. We have found the food to be very consistent except for last week. All the sides were piping hot, but the 2 meats were stone cold as though they had been prepared earlier. Come on guys, you do better than this! Still, looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
I cannot say enough about this wonderful spot in Jonesborough Tennessee. The Farm scenery surrounding this restaurant is stunning and the building housing the restaurant is so homey and Charming. The wait staff and the servers are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Our server was a young lady named Raven. She was absolutely wonderful. The way this restaurant works is you order from what proteins they have available that day. Generally choosing two out of five. It comes with all the sides included. My wife and I chose between pot roast, meatloaf, steak and gravy, blackened catfish, and fried chicken. We chose the steak and gravy which was a delicious Salisbury steak. And we also got the fried chicken. Both were absolutely delicious. The Fried Chicken particularly. The batter was crunchy and well seasoned, the meat inside was tender and juicy and full of flavor. You can tell that the chicken was brined because the seasoning was all the way through the meat. Along with the proteins came the best creamed corn I've ever had, excellent mac and cheese, Smokey green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, some of the most delicious rolls I've ever had. All of the items are refillable. If you want more of anything from the meats to the sides, they will continue to bring it as long as you ask them for it. The meal also included individual desserts from which you could choose a double chocolate cake, homemade carrot cake, peanut butter pie, or a buttermilk pie. And the best part is all of this came out to under $50 for two adults. I could not believe it when the check came. If you're in Jonesborough Tennessee area it would be a sin to pass on this place. They are open Wednesday through Saturday

Brenda F.

Yelp
We love this place for taking guests or just a Saturday night meal - true Southern hospitality and great food. There is always a wait but well worth it - good food and plenty of it - great family environment.

Tim B.

Yelp
Was honestly a little disappointed. Beautiful setting and very nice place to eat. The choices for vegetables were more limited than I had expected. The chicken and catfish were very good but just felt maybe could have offered a couple green vegetables, which we didn't have. Creamed corn, cornbread salad, mashed potatoes and one other that I can't remember at this point. Service was good overall except initially I felt like we were being rushed to get done. But the waitress did say later, "I'm really not trying to rush you, just want to get your dessert order." There is other family style restaurants not far away that offer more options so might try that to compare the two.

Kristie C.

Yelp
We love to eat at Grace Meadows! The food is amazing. The service is fantastic. And the views are so farmhouse. We love to take visitors when they are in town. The price can be a little steep, but it is all you can eat. So go hungry!
google avatar

Mike I.

Yelp
Very good food, well portioned for family style. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The property here is gorgeous. You could easily spend half a day out here enjoying the water and rocking on the chairs. They have a petting zoo area and ice-cream/coffee area coming soon
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
The food was not bad for family style. Chicken was very good. Country style steak was just ok. Side portions were small and not memorable. Desserts were small and lacking. Atmosphere is beautiful and service was good. Probably will not be back.
google avatar

Patricia L.

Yelp
Phenomenal and fantastic! Our family enjoyed the atmosphere from the moment we arrived. From the sweet door greeter to the polite host who quickly seated us, we felt taken care of when we arrived. The atmosphere is lovely and not too loud. The wait staff is efficient and constantly checking in and refilling drinks and side dishes. The amount of food was reasonable, and we never felt we had too little or too much; everything felt perfectly measured. The fried chicken and fried catfish were flawlessly fried. The menu is authentic southern cooking with all the trimmings. You'll reminisce about simpler times at Mimi's house as you eat their macaroni and cheese. You'll think back to Sunday gatherings as you taste their sweet potatoes. You will lose all self-control when you bite into your first sweet roll. Good luck having "just one." Your heart will race as you tear into the fried delicacies. You'll remember hot summer days as you sip on sweet tea. It truly is a southern comfort culinary experience that takes you back in time to Mimi's dining room table. I highly recommend stopping by to enjoy a great meal and a walk down memory lane over some delightful food.

Tammy L.

Yelp
Second time here with extended family of 8+ and this place is great for family style comfort food. We had fried chicken and fried catfish; everyone was happy with the food! Service was ok, could have served abit more food the first time out given the size of our party. We also had a carry out order and it was quite an impressive amount of food. We will be back!
google avatar

Brooke S.

Yelp
This place is beautifully breathtaking. I have to admit I wasn't overly impressed with the food. Was it bad? No. Was it superb? No. The BBQ pork was very dry. The fried chicken was great. The creamed corn was okay and the mac n cheese wasn't too bad. I wished there was more variety of sides. The rolls are fabulous. I don't mind drinking water but for those who like soda you'll be disappointed as water lemonade, and tea are the only choices. I just felt like something was lacking for the price. I also feel there should be a price cut for the vegetarians.
google avatar

Carla F.

Yelp
This was our first time here and we will definitely be back! We came for breakfast and it was delicious! Our waitress , Emma, was awesome. We also got to meet the owner and he was so nice! Great service and excellent food. Can't wait to come back for dinner!

Carol P.

Yelp
I have been here twice for dinner and once for breakfast. Since I'm not really a morning breakfast eater I didn't order much. But I must say they have the best biscuits! The dinner was very good. I got the catfish both times. Best I've ever had. Do come hungry because it's family style and you get lots of food.

Stacy E.

Yelp
Beautiful farm and barn. This time I tried the catfish and fried chicken with sides consisting of apples, cream corn, mashed potatoes with side of gravy, green beans, Mac and cheese. All was very good and I loved the bread! Great place to take the family. Service was great and plan to go back soon!
google avatar

Shannon C.

Yelp
Great for breakfast! Service is fast. The place was packed went I went, but I did not have to wait for a table.

Sherry A.

Yelp
We went for my Birthday and it was very good. The fried chicken was amazing...actually everything was. Make sure you are very hungry when you go because they will keep bringing the food out as long as you can eat.
google avatar

Billie P.

Yelp
Beautiful setting and actually breathe taking. Friendly staff very clean. Was very disappointed in the food. Every potato had black spots on them and they were boiled only. The food was very bland. I would like to try it one more time and see if the food will be better. I did not have the chicken which every one seems to love it. Sorry, that I could not say I enjoyed it. Hopefully next time it will be better. Always give someone a second chance. The place is worth just driving by to see.

Christianna A.

Yelp
Family style dining may be good for a small family but if you are with a big group just be aware that you have to all agree on what meat you choose. I was not happy having to pay $20 for a meal and yet I was stuck eating the fried chicken and country steak the majority chose.
google avatar

Kristi B.

Yelp
Love this place! The food is magnificent! The atmosphere is relaxed. Great place for big groups. You won't be disappointed!

Amelia K.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere. Wait staff was friendly and food selections were good. It is in the middle of nowhere but the drive and scenery once there was great.

Meg B.

Yelp
We love it!! The fried chicken is delicious, also the Mac and cheese. Wonderful service!!

Jesse L.

Yelp
A new hidden gem of the tricities! Food is served family style, either in person or to go, and it's always fresh and delicious! The service is excellent, I've never had my glass run dry, and servers are always quick to bring more food out, so that nobody goes hungry. You'll for sure get your money's worth, and you won't regret the trip!

Chrystal T.

Yelp
This is one of the best southern food family style restaurant we have eaten at EVER! Every single item that was placed on the table was delicious. The rolls are amazing, the Mac and cheese was well worth a second helping and the fried chicken was the best I have had in years! Beautiful atmosphere and all the staff helped each other and were very pleasant.

Susan P.

Yelp
I was very disappointed in the meal at The Kitchen at Grace Meadows. I am giving 2 stars. One for the setting and atmosphere. And, one for attempting fried chicken. The disappointment was in the food. The fried chicken was fried well, but was dry and too salty. The country steak was thin strips of tenderized beef, breaded and fried served in a bowl drowning in creamed gravy. The meat fell apart as you tried to get it out of the bowl. All the sides that we were served appeared as bowls of mush. The green beans were over cooked and appeared as they were from a can. The mashed potatoes were mushy and watery yet real. The creamed corn looked as if it was from a can. The corn bread casserole did have some texture and flavor. The macaroni and cheese was okay. We were served a bowl of brown gravy, I am not sure what for. Usually with fried meat one is served cream gravy for mashed potatoes. This meal needed some farm fresh green vegetables to accompany the heavy creamy dishes. For the price a person can get a meal with country home cooked feel at many other places.
