Fabulous experience at this hotel! Ticks all the boxes. Location is excellent, food is excellent, room was surprisingly spacious, staff was friendly and professional. One thing that was really enjoyable at this 5-star compared with others is there were no staff begging or pushing for ratings or reviews. This was a pleasant change. All staff members are top-notch professionals, they don't need to pressure anyone for reviews. If you're travelling to Kolkata, you can't go wrong with this hotel. Definitely one of the best we've stayed in.

Rooms are good, Location - for me it worked as I had an event here to attend Service - unfortunately, can't give more than 1 star. I wanted an iron and the board and they kept me waiting for good one hour and after a few follow-ups, they said they don't have the board and can I manage only with the iron. Not sure why I paid 15K for this level of service. Extremely disappointing.

The staff at this hotel are fantastic. All so helpful and friendly. The AlFresco restaurant has great food and menu selection. Our waiter Arnab was especially helpful and knowledgeable about the various food dishes at dinner. |The Spa is also wonderful as well as the staff. Would recommend as place to stay in Calcutta.

We stayed just one night at the Great Eastern, but our experience there not good. The Great Eastern is the oldest hotel in India, and I expected a long heritage of great customer service, but unfortunately, it was not the case. The hotel is clean, the rooms are spacious and the tariff is very reasonable. The location in the city is great, but the entrance to the hotel is in a small, dirty lane. The food is reasonable, but quite average. But what really soured our experience was the housekeeping. Our rooms had no towels when we checked in late in the evening, and after a long rail journey, we wanted to freshen up. Multiple calls to housekeeping for towels went unanswered. After 4-5 tries, I called the operator, who promised to get us the towels - nothing happened. 15 minutes later, I went down to the reception and requested towels - they promised immediate assistance, but then again, nothing. Finally, I went to the reception again and waited 10 minutes to speak to the duty manager. He again promised us towels and when they finally arrived more than an hour after check-in, my family was already asleep (and were woken up to receive the towels). I could perhaps written this off as an isolated lapse in service, but the next morning, the same thing happened - we needed some more towels (as we were given too few in the evening before) and there was just no response. Overall, if you are looking for a 5-star or a heritage experience look elsewhere.

A Historic Gem in the Heart of Kolkata ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My recent stay at The Lalit Great Eastern Kolkata transported me to an era of classic elegance and refined hospitality. This heritage property masterfully blends its historic charm with modern luxury, creating a truly surreal experience during my visit in early February. The hotel's ambience immediately draws you in – the thoughtfully curated artifacts and warm, sophisticated lighting create an atmosphere that's both grand and welcoming. Every corner tells a story of the building's rich history while maintaining contemporary comfort. What truly sets this property apart is its exceptional staff. Their polite demeanor and attentive service enhance the overall experience, making you feel valued throughout your stay. The breakfast spread deserves special mention—a delightful assortment of choices that caters to diverse palates and preferences. The Lalit Great Eastern isn't just a hotel; it's a glimpse into Kolkata's colonial past wrapped in modern luxury. This gem of a property has certainly earned its reputation as one of the city's finest hotels. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to relive this enchanting experience.

Finished a three day stay at the Lalit. The politeness of the staff is commendable I want to start by saying that, however, politeness and level of service are two entirely different things. On the first day, a well-meaning staff member broke our luggage zippers while bringing our luggage to the room. Multiple missed orders during our dining experiences, not to mention the exorbitant prices. It took them 20 minutes to provide ice water in the "Legacy Lounge" for breakfast. Furthermore, we had our door open to air out the room and a member of staff just walked in without knocking or saying anything. Once confronted she quickly made up the fact that she was housekeeping looking to see if we needed anything (which doesn't justify walking in without any notice). The rooms and the hotel look absolutely beautiful there is no denying that. However, after actually staying in the rooms you start to notice the cracks. We'll begin with the restrooms, there are loose bathroom fixtures EVERYWHERE. The hand shower next to the toilet dripping water all the way to the shower head barely hanging on by a thread. The shower cubicle leaks water everywhere into the bathroom. Furthermore there is clear condensation damage on the walls of the room and constantly paint scraping off EVERYWHERE. I left my bag out on the desk and went exploring and when I came back my bag was COVERED in flakes of paint. I don't know whether this only occurs in the "Legacy Rooms" or if this is the case all across the board. To conclude, once you get past the smoke and mirrors, this 5 star hotel definitely does not hold up to others in the same price range and locale, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Great experience, the ambience was warm and welcoming with good energy from the staff who were attentive to every request. Special shout-out to Giriraj for such wonderful hospitality and making the check-in and check-out experience so seamless. Always friendly and ready to answer any questions everytime you pass the lobby. Four stars because the building is old and the facilities would do with a little bit of repair.
