The Best Restaurants and Pubs in the New Forest | Eater London

"Yes, this is 10 miles beyond the forest on an unlikely suburban road. But, here, owner James Fowler turns out some noble food and cocktails worthy of the extra miles. A master of many, he cooks from a wood-fired oven, while making charcuterie, serving day-fresh seafood, and shaking some serious cocktails (this is a chef who won Diageo’s 2014 World Class U.K. Bartender of the year). The txuleton steak, charred mackerel fillet, and rock oysters are popular choices." - Chloe Scott-Moncrieff

Visited for Sunday lunch, the chefs and staff were amazing so friendly and helpful. Food was exceptional quality, the chefs allowed the quality of produce, meat to do the talking with them adding their flair and unique flavour. Service was friendly and professional. Everything about our visit was excellent and highly recommended a visit. Thank you everyone for a fabulous Sunday lunch.😋

What a venue! I loved the relaxed European vibe right in the heart of the high street. The staff were so inviting and friendly, as we enjoyed exploring the fantastic wine list and great atmosphere. We had the Sunday roast after recommendations that its the best on the south-coast and it did not disappoint. The aged beef was perfectly cooked and plenty of well priced side dishes to choose from you will not leave hungry. 10/10 would recommend to a friend

Good food and great service! The bacon belly, which apparently was made of beef belly, was to die for! However, the starters were ok. Cheese was regular, but the wine soaked grapes were strong (we loved it). Risotto was a bit dry and uncooked inside. Also, staff need to do more research or training on wine pairing. 😛

Real food. Serving locally sourced produce from a wood fired oven. Which is at the heart of the restaurant. Sustainabilty is a key factor here. Even down to the menu's. There's no waste here. Instead you are presented with two chalk boards. One has various snacks and small plates. While the other has bigger plates and desserts. We chose a selection from both menus. Crispy potatoes £7 Smoked hispi £8 Hens eggs £8 Baked mushrooms £12 Chicken & pork pie £15 Cod,radicchio & parsnip £24 Once you place your order, don't expect everything to come out at once. The food is all cooked fresh. It's one of those places where the dishes come out as and when they are ready. The food was absolutely delicious and very filling. So much so we had to take some away with us. Which was packed sustainably of course.

Stopped by here for lunch with a friend, he’d been before and is more of a foodie. I had an inkling that it wouldn’t be cheap, but had no idea the portions would also be small. We ordered 2 portions of potatoes as a side (the main was just a few slices of meat in a sauce, no accompanying vegetables!) when one large plate arrived with just 8-9 small, overcooked new potatoes on…I almost prompted the waiting staff that we’d ordered a second… but it soon sank in that this was it! We share these! Drinks were overpriced, as is typical for Southbourne. The irony was them adding a charity donation for Action Against Hunger (without asking) and walking away like we hadn’t been properly fed. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m sure they could offer better value for money. Disappointed.

I’ve been coming to Larder House for all of my special occasions since moving to Southbourne. It’s a really intimate cosy spot, perfect for anniversaries / valentine’s day. The food is always unique & tasty. I love the quality of the produce used & that it all comes from super local farms! The service here is also fantastic, the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. (The ramos gin fizz from The Library upstairs is also my all time favourite cocktail)

Best foodie spot in Bournemouth! after recently moving from London, I’ve missed the restaurants but we are so happy to have this little gem of a restaurant. Every single dish was so good. I’m always happy if I eat out and know I couldn’t have made it better at home. I’ve been for their roasts over the years but we’ll definitely be back for dinner 😊

The front of house staff were welcoming and attentive. We went for a Sunday roast having been before and loved the food. They have now changed the menu for the worse. Usually with a roast you choose your meat and all the trimmings come with it as part of the price. Now you choose your meat and pay extra for all the trimmings. We chose pork belly at a sum of £15. After waiting 40mins for the food to arrive it was the smallest portion of meat and then the sides came. We chose two portions of roast potatoes at a sum of £7 where we received 3 burnt potatoes each. The roast vegetables at a sum of £3.50 were burnt to a crisp and a small portion. For the money we are spending it was very disappointing. We won’t be going back until they change their menu for the better. They’ve shown their potential before this menu change, which is why it was so disappointing.

Yelp
The Larderhouse has a fantastic menu and great atmosphere. With a wood-fired oven, they offer the nicest pizzas around! They have an extensive cocktail bar and the barkeep is a genius! So passionate and knowledgeable! They also have a glorious courtyard out the back with a fire to keep you warm and pretty lots of pretty lights which is perfect for clear evenings.

Yelp
Very good choice outside of the tourist area. Somewhat a Fine Dining establishment, great service. I had the Lamb which was very nice. You will need to make reservations as when i called, the inside dining area was fully booked. They have a patio setting with heaters that was fine, but the ambience inside is what you really will want.

Yelp
Food is incredible. Quite pricey but it's certainly worth it. The cocktails as well are amazing. Highly recommended this place - especially for a special occasion!

Yelp
Ten of us went for Sunday lunch, 5 had lamb 4 beef and 1 ham hock all of which were excellent . Beef was tender and plentiful as were the other dishes. The accompanying veg of carrots, swede and red cabbage were also delicious. Service was very good and as we were celebrating a birthday they allowed us to bring our own cake and served it to us for dessert.Highly recommended and will return on our next visit to Bournemouth.

Yelp
Fantastic food and a great atmosphere. They have music nights and themed evenings as well.
