The Laslett

"How did it strike you on arrival? Thanks to screenwriter and film director Richard Curtis, Notting Hill is almost a holiday destination in itself. So it’s strange that it didn’t get a decent hotel until 2015. The Laslett is very of its place—a little bit boho, a lot swish. It takes up five whitewashed Victorian mansions a short stumble from the Notting Hill Gate tube station. Inside, the restrained white-and-grey color scheme and parquet floors are jazzed up with interesting furniture from the antiques dealer down the road and bright art by the likes of Barbara Hulanicki. Plus, there’s a library brimming with design tomes and a stylish shop. What’s the crowd like? Those Who want a luxury hotel but would rather not sleep in the chaos of central London. You’ll find locals residents in here, too, catching up over coffee in the bar. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Rooms have dove-grey walls cluttered with art and interesting bits of vintage furniture. All have room for a desk, and the suites have space for a petite dining table. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Penguin books brighten shelves, and mini bars have been replaced with a ‘big bar’ stocked with an endless selection of essentials from Sipsmith gin to fancy underwear. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Metro tiled bathrooms have rain showers and zesty Ren products. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Free. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The bar has a lovely little terrace and sensibly serves luxurious brunches until 4pm. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The Laslett is a stylish and affordable base in one of London’s smartest neighborhoods." - Laura Goulden

"Immerse yourself in the flamboyance and grandeur of Victorian London at The Laslett, a row of townhouses set in the wildly eclectic neighborhood of Notting Hill. Every corner of this hip city sanctuary is brimming with artistic trappings, from the first-floor library, where visitors can browse archives of design books and curated walls of paintings and drawings, to guest rooms and suites, shaped by mid-century modern fixtures and vintage curiosities like antique clocks and sepia-toned art prints. At tea time, sink back in a luxe velvet booth at The Henderson Bar, or toast with an Aperol spritz on the terrace and watch the world go by." - Macy Sirmans Macy Sirmans Macy Sirmans is a New York-based freelance storyteller and marketing director for Condé Nast. This is a great boutique hotel in a great London neighborhood. We have returned every time we visit London. The space is chic and also welcoming. The service is excellent. The food and beverage perfect. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Never a bad day - except the one where we have to leave.

I have just stayed a week at the Laslett (514$ per night) and had made my booking late last year having been recommended by a friend. On checking in I was allocated a basement room which was a huge disappointment not at all like the room I had seen previously and certainly not worth the price I paid) No compensation was offered.|The next morning I complained at the reception but as the hotel was full I would have to stay 3 nights in the basement and they'd move me upstairs after that, which they did. The next room 44 was great and I enjoyed the rest of my stay. The staff were very polite and helpful and location is perfect. Sadly I would be very reluctant to return to this hotel if there was any chance of them putting me back in the basement (bleak with no natural light) and I would urge anyone thinking of staying there to make that a condition of their stay unless a huge discount is offered. At least with a Premier Inn you know what you're getting at the price you're paying.

I was willing to overlook the spotty service. The fact that, “included with room” requests were just “ forgotten” or sitting down for breakfast at 10:45, getting no service, and then after asking twice, being told that I missed it because it ended at 11..I even forgave the leaking shower, cheap finishes and room that felt staged rather than actually cres ed for a guest to stay in.||||But then I realized they had checked me into a lower class of room than what I booked and paid for. An actual in the basement room with no air or light. I assumed the issue was with the 3rd party booking, but after trying to work it out 2x with the front desk, they told me i needed to take it up with the booker, but refused to provide any information or share with me what had been booked ( lying and saying it was “illegal” to show me my booking- which i confirmed it was not) They provided no help, told me a manager wasn’t available to talk to me until after my checkout date and proceeded to act in the worst sort of fake, passive aggressive “service” way that demonstrated that they really did not care to help or untangle the issue. This approach of lying to and treating the customer as if they dont matter or shouldn’t get what they pre paid for is unacceptable. The fact that they wouldn’t provide me with the information needed to work it out with the booker clearly showed that they knew they had messed up. Their attitude was unhelpful, smarmy and patronizing. I travel a lot and love hotels. This place, despite its nice location, is all fake surface, 2 star service, no customer care and a level of passive aggressiveness that shows they could care less about their guests. They could have easily shown me what was booked on my behalf. They chose not to. If I could give it no stars I would. Very bad experience.

Absolutely loved my stay at The Laslett. From the warm welcome to the genuinely friendly, professional service throughout, the team couldn’t have been more helpful or polished.||The hotel itself is beautifully designed – elegant yet cosy – and the rooms feel luxurious without being showy. A real highlight was the bespoke hotel fragrance that subtly lingers throughout the space. It’s calming, distinctive, and makes the whole place feel like a proper retreat.||Brilliant location in Notting Hill, and a level of care and attention that sets it apart. Would return in a heartbeat

This cute hotel was very convenient and well located. Very close to the train station, portobello market, and the Kensington gardens. Amazing and friendly staff. Very attentive. Our room was comfortable. Water pressure in the shower was excellent. 10/10

Stayed at The laslett and the service was excellent. The bed and bedding was very comfortable too. We had one of the entry level rooms which was well designed and our bathroom was surprisingly large too which was a nice surprise. Our room was located at the back of the building so didn’t have a view of the nice street but it was very quiet at night so that was great too.|We only ate at the restaurant once but highly recommend the breakfast. We didn’t have a chance to try the dinner but I’m sure it’s great too.|The location was the perfect place to get used to the time change. It’s still walkable to different areas and restaurants and very close to the tube so we found it to be convenient and peaceful! We will stay here again!

Got bumped at Heathrow and needed a day stay. A bit far from the airport but I need something clean. Walked right in for just one night, no problem. Food, coffee & tea is fantastic, rooms are very clean and ambiance is lovely. Excellent location too. Close to some great traditional pubs, try The Cow

Beautiful property with a very interesting clientele. The staff was very friendly and the facilities had charm and character. The rooms were very comfortable, the bar/restaurant/patio was perfect when you needed it. Would recommend as an ideal place to stay for a visit to London.

Yelp
Very nice outside seating but it gets a bit unbearable as we are sitting at a table where no shading at all We ordered a Bloody Mary for hungover and it hits just the spot. It's not exactly cheap but I don't expect to have too many of these. Benedict was actually very good and filling but we love the waffle more because it's got this interesting savory and sweet favor to it. Overall a good experience and I think I'd enjoy it a bit more during evening when the sun doesn't hit quite directly.

Yelp
Chilled hotel with lovely staff. Decent restaurant with a hearty menu. As far as London hotels go, this is a good one. Most are either hideously expensive or cramped affairs resembling ant hills for the criminally insane. It's a good stop over spot for the weary business traveler. One point deducted for lack of parking or any reasonable alternative. You have to pull over and wait for a parking spot to become available. Tedious. Grumble, grumble.

Yelp
I loved the location of this boutique hotel- thoroughly modern and right in my fave London neighborhood. I even strolled over to Portobello market twice on my most recent stay there. My only gripes would be: 1) I visited a couple of weeks after they opened, and they were still training the staff, hence slower, spotty but friendly service. 2) And the walls are very thin. The rooms across from me kept slamming their door when I was trying to sleep (every min or so within a 20 min timeframe coz they were visiting the room across the hallway from them) and I finally had to step out in my pajamas to ask them to stop it. Annoying for a biz traveler. They should look into a mechanism that would slow the door shutting to prevent such an obnoxiously loud banging sound. Overall, a wonderfully remodeled townhouse just an easy walk from Notting Hill's famed Portobello market, tons of eateries and Tube station.

Yelp
We decided to end our three-week tour on a high note and booked a room at The Laslett. My early morning time in the lobby cafe was a dream. There is something about The Laslett that makes you wish you could stay forever. Our room was comfortable. The rest of the hotel was so perfect that I would never choose anywhere else. Loved the stylish vibe, the coffee, fresh fruit, home-made granola, cocktail samplers, oversized art books, evening wine, hip "library," welcoming staff and the walkability to Portobello. In fact, writing this review makes me want to book another trip to London just so I can stay at The Laslett. Wish there was a Laslett closer to home. It would be perfect in NYC.

Yelp
Fantastic brand new property that finally delivers a boutique high-end townhouse hotel concept which was badly lacking in Notting Hill. Nothing but praise for this location, design and staff. They have truly thought about what you want for the perfect stay and delivered across the board. This is now where I'll stay while in London - period. On a side-note there team is awesome and Tom leads that charge (and makes a mean cocktail).

Yelp
Great hotel in great area. Excellent food and service. Big bright rooms in beautiful townhouses.

Yelp
Run by amateurs, this pretend inn offers little a traveler actually needs. Deceptively, they checked us into a basement room which was without air facing a stucco wall with grass and moss growing outside. After we protested, the clueless manager moved us to a room equally small but with air. The breakfast is a bit of a rip-off too. You can pay £22 in advance for the buffet or £22 when you decide you want the buffet. It's extra for real non-buffet food, like eggs or toast. When we came home after 11 in search of food (none to be had in the neighborhood at such an ungodly hour) their kitchen staff was MIA. We were forced to eat chips and nuts from the mini-bar. There was virtually no closet space and literally no drawers to store clothing. You'll be living out of your suitcase here. Stay away. Stay far away.

Yelp
Beautifully restored townhouses in central location make this a very special place to stay. Hotel is contemporary and cozy with very attentive and friendly service. The rooms are well designed and generously appointed. The staff endlessly helpful and pleasant...it really could not be any better.. I look forward to coming back. It feels like home awaÿ from home in London.

Yelp
Nice hotel, but if you are planning on staying in a single room during the summer months, then check it has "proper" air-con (and not a portable cooling fan). I stayed two nights (8-10 July) and the room was like a sauna. Barely slept at all, even with the window open (there's no through draft). I paid over $900 for the two nights, and my base expectation at that price would be to have air conditioning.

Yelp
I just stayed a week in this lovely boutique hotel 200 ft. from the Notting Hill Gate which made catching the tube extremely easy. Right round the corner is the famed Portobello market and across the street you can walk to Kensington High for all your shopping needs. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating and courteous especially since I checked in at 4:30 a.m. and my reserved room wasn't ready. Room service selections and breakfast were yummy, a glass of wine in the library with a friend or afternoon tea was lovely and the housekeeping was good. Sheets, towels and vanity supplies were excellent. Mini bar selections were adequate but avoid the awful "Pop Chips". My main complaint was the same as another reviewer's about the slamming of the doors and the walls being thin. I could hear someone knocking and yelling "housekeeping" starting at 8 a.m. on the floor above me and other guests doors slamming closed at night or early morning. Other than that, Room 27 rocked but beware that there is NO HEAT in the bath other than the towel bar and it was darn cold while I was there!
