The Laslett

"How did it strike you on arrival? Thanks to screenwriter and film director Richard Curtis, Notting Hill is almost a holiday destination in itself. So it’s strange that it didn’t get a decent hotel until 2015. The Laslett is very of its place—a little bit boho, a lot swish. It takes up five whitewashed Victorian mansions a short stumble from the Notting Hill Gate tube station. Inside, the restrained white-and-grey color scheme and parquet floors are jazzed up with interesting furniture from the antiques dealer down the road and bright art by the likes of Barbara Hulanicki. Plus, there’s a library brimming with design tomes and a stylish shop. What’s the crowd like? Those Who want a luxury hotel but would rather not sleep in the chaos of central London. You’ll find locals residents in here, too, catching up over coffee in the bar. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Rooms have dove-grey walls cluttered with art and interesting bits of vintage furniture. All have room for a desk, and the suites have space for a petite dining table. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Penguin books brighten shelves, and mini bars have been replaced with a ‘big bar’ stocked with an endless selection of essentials from Sipsmith gin to fancy underwear. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Metro tiled bathrooms have rain showers and zesty Ren products. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Free. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The bar has a lovely little terrace and sensibly serves luxurious brunches until 4pm. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The Laslett is a stylish and affordable base in one of London’s smartest neighborhoods." - Laura Goulden
