The Liberties

The Liberties Pub in SF is a lively Irish spot with plenty of seating and a fun, upscale vibe for drinks and dinner. I had the grilled fish sandwich which was solid for a bar menu. Friendly staff and outdoor seating make it a great hangout in Dolores Heights.

Food was delicious. Had a few appetizers. The Brussels sprouts, wings, and calamari was particularly good Got a cocktail and that wasn’t very good. But would come back and have a beer and food The outdoor patio is really nice and is covered while also being good air flow Service was fast

Went for Sunday brunch and got the Eggs Benedict with crab. Seriously one of the best eggs bennies I’ve had in a while. The eggs were perfectly poached, the potatoes liberally seasoned and crispy, and the plate was served with a generous helping of fresh fruit. They know what they’re doing with this dish. I’ll be back. :)

I was very pleased to see poutine on the menu here, since I miss Canada, and I went to try it. It was quite good, although the gravy and the brisket both had a bit of a sweeter taste than I like (I personally prefer rich umami savoury without much sweet at all) but it was still quite good.

Service friendly, drinks ok. Pizza was horrible. Not just bad, HORRIBLE. Disappointing, as this is a neighborhood bar for me. I'm a regular at Lone Palm and had been wanting to try a change. Took a friend from out of town. Mistake.

Right across the street from a busy Sunday brunch spot, The Liberties had all the quality without any of the line. A nice homey neighborhood feel, they have live music every weekend. The food was spectacular for a bar! Will definitely be back.

Absolutely the best cottage pie I've ever had! Delicious poutine and the scrumptiousest salad. Warm, beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, i cannot recommend enough!

Sweet little spot, delicious eats and drinks, friendly staff. They graciously welcomed our motorcycle collective after our chilly holiday ride and managed us well for only having one server that evening. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed this location.

I'm amazed it took me this long to review the liberties. This is my favorite bar in the city for three crucial reasons. 1. The food - The mushroom Mac and cheese is the perfect appetizer. The pizzas are INSANELY good (I loved the Irish style pizza). The burgers are perfect. I didn't order anything here that was REALLY solid. 1. The interior- it is rare in the city to find a bar with solid food that isn't an overpriced restaurant that happens to serve beer. This is a BAR/PUB with excellent food. Really spacious yet cozy spot. Plenty of room to sit at the bar, sit in one of the booths, the back room or even outside on their tables. On rare hot days the patio is amazing. Also TMI but they have two of the cleanest bathrooms I've seen in a bar ever. 3. The people. Really great people here, they are helpful with reccomendations, conversational, super attentive. One time I brought my laptop here like a dork to work on something and the guy brought me over sparkling water without asking. Furthermore, this isn't necessarily a sports bar. They have several tvs to watch the game, but it doesn't have rah rah sports bar energy, it's VERY chill here. As a result I've met some very nice people on staff and regulars. I came in here by myself once and this organist and her husband invited me over for a beer and we talked about the decline of pop music and then the bartender got involved and was defending Taylor swift and it felt like a hangout at someone's house. Norm was 2 seconds away from walking in and the theme song was about to play. Bonus mention: they have live music fairly often, I haven't seen too much of it because I usually come earlier in the day but I heard a bit and they were solid, like chill acoustic bass jazzy stuff. Overall, 10 out of 10 bar, reminds me of one of my favorites back home in Los angeles, can't reccomend it enough.

Let me preface this review with some positives, 1st. I frequent this establishment say once a month for HH, Wings (w/sauce on the side) killer Brussel Sprouts and Tots, washed down by cold beers. All this and a great price. Also, Douglas is frequently my server and I adore him. He's so kind, but sadly, too often rushed, due to the # of folks in the establishment and frequently not enough help, IMO. My recent experience was not much different, not enough help, electronic ordering system was on the fritz, food was really slow coming out of the kitchen and it appeared it was only him and the bartender trying to manage the bar and probably 8 or 9 tables of folks. I ordered a pizza as I thought it might be faster than a burger, not. Folks sitting next to me who ordered after me got their food 10 min. before my pizza arrived. Pizza review - Not Good, not good at all. I ordered the Chicken Pesto pizza add olives. I asked for light sauce (which if it's a true Pesto pizza) there wouldn't have been any tomato sauce. It was cooked perfectly and hot. But all that sauce made all the ingredient slide off the pizza. Pesto was drizzled across the top and chicken, what chicken. They were teeny tiny bits, no flavor and maybe a dozen little pieces. Very disappointing. If they are going to offer this type / kind of pizza, someone needs to give them a better recipe or teach the cooks how to make a proper Chicken Pesto Pizza. Won't stop me from going, but dang, get more help.

There's trivia on Mondays at 7! Lots of seating in the front, and they've got a back room too. The waiters / bartenders are super friendly and lovely to talk to. They serve a decent amount of food! I forgot to eat dinner before coming to trivia and was happy with the portion. The sweet potato fries were super yummy!

Came here with a party of 11 to celebrate a birthday and have some brunch. Our group sat outside and it was a beautiful sunny day in SF. Unfortunately the bartender was solo for most of the day but he managed well and we had a great time. The menu had a lot of different options for brunch. We tried a few of the Benedicts and the Fried Chicken & Biscuits. We ordered a few bottles of champagne as well and of course had some coffee to start. The Noe Benedict was great and just what I was craving. A few poached eggs and some nice bacon. I ended up not eating the English muffin from the Benedict because I ate the biscuit with the hot honey from the fried chicken and biscuit. That fried chicken was ok, they were small bites but the batter isn't my favorite. Nothing wrong with it just not my style. That hot honey is something I want to recreate and make at home! It was yummy! Our friend got the chicharron and it was crunchy! The table was happy with all the food selections. The next time I go in definitley getting the BLTA. It looked amazing and those fries that came with it also looked so good. I am also curious about the crab avocado toast. Looks like I'll have to make another trip out to eat here on another sunny afternoon.

Sad to hear that the Liberties has suspended live music. I would often stop in to have food and a cocktail (or two) on Wednesdays to see musicians perform and dancers enjoy the vibe. Staff there is always great, Doug and Sabrina do an excellent job and the kitchen is terrific at serving up tasty pub food pronto. But the thing that made The Liberties unique was its resolute support of quality music. Local musicians and talented visitors came to entertain. It is so sad to see it end. There are a number of places to go and watch sports on TV, there was only one Liberties. Live jazz, people dancing, and chatting, that's what drew me to this place. I hope the owners can find a way to bring back the music. Five stars for a pub that has live music, three stars for a bar with big TVs. I love the Giants, but I'll watch TV at home.

Always a great time. Good food, solid drinks including aged cocktails, live music, friendly staff. What else do you want in a neighborhood pub? Try a barrel aged Vieux Carre.

The best Mac and cheese! Love coming here to grab a cider and bites. It's always a bonus when you have live music almost daily!

Brunch was amazing. Wait staff friendly, restaurant is cozy and patio seating is cute with its outdoor picnics style tables. Loved it!

Great little bar, restaurant with ambience that was fantastic. Loved the live band playing outside - was wonderful for a Sunday brunch! Our waiter was super friendly and kind! And let's not forget the amazing food. Highly recommend this place

Excellent food and service. Chill ambiance. Fish sandwich, tater tots, pizza, and fried chicken were excellent.

This place was pretty yummy! We visited on a Sunday around 1pm and got seated pretty much right away with our choice of table. They seemed a little understaffed, but our waiter was very nice. We sat outside, but the restaurant seemed about half full. I didn't get a look inside, but I believe it's regularly a pub. I ordered the eggs benedict florentine (pictured) and it was quite yummy. It also came with potatoes and a little bowl of fruit on the side, which my roommate helped me finish. Overall, I enjoyed my experience :)

I was very impressed with the staff at The Liberties. They were so thoughtful and had a real team spirit about them, something that is uncommon to see these days in the service industry. The guy who made me my seltzer water with lime was full of smiles for everyone he served - just super sweet. And it was really such a warm sight to see the chef staff lining up to clap for the band in between making the food. I heard this place was under relatively new management and I was glad to see it have such a good, neighborhood, 'for everybody' feel. I was walking by and went inside to see my friend playing music in there and I will be back. I am glad they are supporting live music and giving musicians a place to develop community - something badly needed these days.

Love everything about this place. Bartenders are excellent, drinks are great, place is comfy. The food is good and it comes out fast. We have been coming here for years and never had a bad experience. Solid five stars.

I strolled up to The Liberties, and enjoyed some Fish & Chips, and a Fort Point Westfalia. The food was hot and tasty, and they have predominately compostable drink and dinnerware. Great neighborhood pub vibes with friendly and quick service, in addition to outdoor seating:D

Food was great. Waitress took our order and busboy brought our drinks and delivered our food and checked on us, then after the meal the waitress showed up again and we payed for our meal. I wish the tip could go directly to the busboy. He did all the work. My friends and I wear not impressed by the waitress. I won't go back.

Saturday live music was a nice touch on an afternoon with a few beers and food. Samosas were very tasty, yet not the most filling of small bites. Fried Brussel Sprouts were yummy and a hefty portion. Beer selection and outdoor seating was a solid plus. Service was outstanding.

Great neighborhood bar with an outdoor patio. The bar food is excellent with great burgers and other classic dishes. Friendly staff and quick service. Highly recommended!

My partner and I are still pretty averse to indoor dining cause of covid residuals, so we jump at any chance where there's a decent spot to eat and drink outdoors. And The Liberties, which is a short walk from her place in the Mission, is one of our main spots for a little dinner date night. They got a full bar with a solid pub food menu. Appetizers, pizza, salads, sandwiches, and more. My go-to is the fried chicken sandwich, though I've had the fish and chips here as well. My partner (who's veg) usually gets a veggie burger or the grilled cheese with tomato soup. Of course they have a full bar which we also take advantage of. Can't speak for the indoor seating, but their outdoor seating with heaters along the mostly chill sidewalk has been great for us. Will probably be back this week or next!

I was having an awful day and ended up locked out of my car in Daly city at about 10:30pm. I was able to have my keys Ubered to me from San Jose (thank God for modern tech!!) but had an hour or so to kill. Starving and in need of a stuff drink and comfort food, I found the Liberties on Yelp. I ordered an Uber there and decided to call to ensure they were staying open. Since it was slow, the owner, Ian, said he was thinking of closing up early but offered to stay open if me and my partner were heading over. Got there at about 11 and not only was the general aesthetic and vibe very cool and cozy, Ian was very kind and whipped us up some delicious cocktails. To boot, the samosas, grilled cheese, and shepherds pie were all absolutely delicious. I look forward to visiting again! Thank you Ian

Stopped by The Liberties for some post-dinner drinks and I wish we would have come hungrier to try some of their small bites! From chicharron and fried chicken, to poutine and tater tots, they really had a lot of good options to choose from. After some debate, we ended up getting tater tots for the table and they were so fresh and nostalgic. But what I really liked about this place was the cocktail that I had. There was a seasonal Halloween-themed cocktail menu and my favorite drink from it was the Corpse Reviver Blue. So easy to drink and so tasty. A few of the other ones I tried were good too, but that one was the best in my opinion. Even their non-seasonal cocktails sounded really good.

On our wannabe Lockdown Eve pub crawl, we wanted to make sure to stop at the Liberties for their cocktails. Balanced and strong they definitely did the trick! The burger was SO GOOD (please note This was my second burger in all of quarantine) and service was great. Can't wait to come back and sit in their adorable parklet!

Outside seating only when I was there about a month ago. Ordered and picked up at counter. Good selection on food and drinks. Drinks are pretty good. Food portions are pretty decent. Nice staffs.

This is my favorite neighborhood pub. I come for the drinks and stay for the camaraderie! All of the folks who work here are really neat and they make me feel like family. It's a casual atmosphere with sophisticated live music on weekends. Also- the brunch is gorgeous and delicious. The manager, Sean, is a cool cat with great fashion sense.

This place is the spot if you want some very delicious pub food. The pub food I usually have is more miss than hit even after a few alcoholic drinks. The Liberties is a good place for fish and chips. The poutine was delicious . Haven't had poutine this good since I visited Canada. The calamari was legit. Must plan a visit once indoor dining is a thing in San Francisco.

Crap micheladas so don't order it here. Otherwise the drinks are good and the burgers are amazing. Cute outdoor seating area too.

You know what makes a great bar restaurant? The people running it. This is a friendly spot where everyone knows your name. We don't wait in the long line for brunch across the street, when this place is lovely. And where else are you going to get Irish breakfast?

My family and I visited this past Saturday for dinner and to watch my friend's band, One Time More perform. Everything was great, the staff and service was amazing, and not to forget the food was delicious. Our server checked on us every few minutes even as it got busy to see how everything was and if we needed anything else. The ambiance was really nice, I highly recommend Liberties to locals who never been or for those visiting from outside San Francisco. You won't be disappointed. Cheers!

This place used to be fantastic, but ever since everything has opened up again everything has changed. The menu has gotten smaller and while everything from kitchen is still solid the service is atrocious. The last three times I've gone the waiters completely ignored me and my party. When we go order at least one thing is wrong or missing. Often once they come by the never come back and then get upset when I come up to the bar to get my check and pay. Honestly I'm not sure what's going on but at this point I'm not coming back. It was once one of my favorite happy hour spots, now it's just another bar with bad service.

I'm very overdue in writing this review. Every year, at the end of a major conference in San Francisco, I hold a team-building and celebration party. After trying several different venues (including a few restaurants), I discovered The Liberties. Their backroom is perfect for my ~20 person group. Unlike a restaurant where everyone has to sit at a table all night, there is a mixture of tables and high top/bars, allowing people to mix and talk. And they do an incredible job creating a fun atmosphere, making sure that everyone's glass remains full (with alcoholic and non-alcoholic) beverages without being overly intrusive on the fun. Also, the food is perfect for a big group (with a wide range of eating restrictions).

Burgers were cooked to order plenty of condiments, love the large pickle with the order fries were delicious and warm Great job!

I've been to this place a couple of times and really like it. Burgers are a little on the expensive end but are really good. Doug, my waiter was great too. Nice neighborhood spot.

The food was great and the cocktails were fabulous , nice ambiance with live music . Gotta try the honey chicken wings , AMAZING !!

TL;DR - delicious tater tots! We love Liberties. They're very reliable. When outdoor dining was available, we would sit out there and their drinks were always A+! We've ordered tons of food from them. I really like their fish and chips, normally. Sometimes it comes out buttery soft and perfect, but there was a time where I didn't think it was all the great. Hit or miss. Maybe it's the type of fish they use sometimes? I do think their tater tots are great, never disappointed!! I also have tried their burgers, which are intense. They're thick. We also have tried a pizza from them that had hashbrowns and other items. Their food is not for the light hearted!

Great bar - cool vibe! Some Irish whiskies and even beer available only at this place. Killer bar food, especially the pastrami fries. Just upscale enough...not snooty and pretentious - but still classy. "Mad March Hare" Irish Poitin (whiskey) - off the charts good, and this is the only place you can get to taste it. From the recipe of the original Irish 'moonshiners.' Friendly bartenders that know their stuff - one actually from Dublin. Can't wait to go back.

This place was a great experience. We had a noon reservation on a Saturday. The young ladies working were super nice and let me sit there with some girlfriends from high school, almost a mini reunion, and talk, eat and drink for hours. They didn't hound us to pay and leave which was very nice. The brunch menu was spot on and the brunch drinks were delicious. I would absolutely come here again the next time I am in the city.

We came for brunch. Great fried chicken and waffles, boneless breaded dark meat. Kids loved the waffles and the French toast.

I had the deviled eggs they were great. The staff was extremely friendly. There was lots of Cocktail and Beer options. I loved my Rum float. I would totally come back again. The bathroom was also very clean.

This has become one of my two go-To spots for to-go cocktails. Love the various Moscow Mules modification. Reasonable price at $10. Works like magic for especially tough days during this pandemic and trust me there are MANY!

We've always gone to the Liberties regularly. The food is good, the location is convenient and the staff is friendly and down-to-earth. The back room comes in handy for small parties and they're pretty easygoing about the reservation process. During COVID the outdoor area has been great and they have live music out there fairly often. It's the perfect local bar.

British-like pub that serves some great cocktails. We've come here a couple times, once for brunch and another for dinner. They serve generous portions, but maintain a high quality. Their cocktails are unique and taste great, inspired from local favorites.

Great brunch. Poached eggs are always perfect and the outdoor seating has plenty of room for groups. Service is amazing and we have only once had to wait for a table. Not sure why it is not more popular.

Just moved one month ago to SF. Was looking for a good afternoon pick me up alcohol + caffeine. Ask for the Fiona special. It's a 10/10.

Recently moved to the area and found this fabulous neighbourhood spot. You should 1000% ask for the Fiona special (not on the menu but elevated espresso martini vibes) by Fiona, accompanied by fabulous service, good vibes and an always smile. Thanks Fiona, you go above and beyond!

Good place for an Irish beer. Also decent mixed drinks, and a chill vibe.
