Best Restaurants in the Spring Branch Neighborhood of Houston | Eater Houston

"Books stacked on shelves and cozy seating set the scene at this neighborhood bar, which is a dreamy spot to enjoy a glass of wine and a choose-your-own-adventure charcuterie board. Ask the Library Bar’s knowledgeable staff for recommendations if overwhelmed by the more than 1,200 unique wines on offer. The bites menu features flavors that complement a glass of red or white, such as a pork and fig flatbread and a tomato and burrata salad." - Brianna Griff

The 12 Best Wine Bars In Houston

"The Library is a non-intrusive backdrop for people who want to hold hands and giggle over port wines, or maybe for work friends who like to split margherita flatbreads while spilling the latest office drama. The wine list at this Spring Branch spot is long enough to come with annotations, so unless you’re in dire need of reading material, stick to the more succinct by-the-glass menu. There's also a small outdoor seating area where you can bring your glasses and your pals." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene, julie takahashi

Google
The library is such a cute spot! It’s very intimate but has plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. We went on a Friday night and the service was great. All the staff were super friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. We had a bottle of wine and the burrata salad that was delicious.

Google
I recently visited The Library and was thoroughly impressed! The ambiance is warm and inviting, perfect for a cozy evening with friends after a long week. The wine selection is impressive and extensive as was the knowledge of the staff who helped us pick out a few favorites. Brennan in particular was very helpful and charming. He helped make our night everything we wanted it to be. Do yourself a favor and spend an evening at the Library. Ask for Brennan.

Amazing service, great food, love the wine list here, very detailed and the staff is super knowledgeable and always here to point you in the right direction.... while you're here do not miss on the chocolates!

Google
So adorable and cozy with that romantic vibe . Highly recommend . Their flatbreads tasted delicious . Generous pours too - please keep that up :) I’m so glad this place exists . Perfect wind down place

Google
Crappy first experience. We live so close and heard great things. Arrived and were told there were no tables available so we could wait at the bar. First problem, where? There was already another couple standing in the only standing room available at the bar. We squeezed in at the midpoint where a single chair had been left open. I guess because I sat in the chair we then forfeited any possibility of getting a table. So second problem, my husband stood at the bar the entire time we were there. We were given menus and someone did help us with wine choices but it was all downhill from there. We weren’t given water even after we ordered food. The flatbread was good but by then it was clear we would not be seated, there were no other bar seats available, and we weren’t going to get anything, much less water, unless we flagged someone down for it. Multiple staff stood directly across from us wiping glasses for 20 min and didn’t say a single thing to us. The final straw was when we saw people who had just walked in get seated at the bar, offered glasses of water, and were engaged with immediately by bar staff. I was fuming. I can understand a busy bar but this is a nice place with prices to match. The experience was unacceptable. We were planning to stay longer and order more but once it was clear that our situation wasn’t going to change, forget it. Why pay more for bad service and a crappy atmosphere? Disappointing. Don’t bother if you’re looking for the “cozy” and “attentive” experience described by others. I’m trying to figure out if those people came at a special time or when there were different people working…. The whole thing left a bad taste in our mouths.

Google
We experienced The Library bar this past weekend with a group of friends and had a great time. I made reservations in advance for a group of 12 and they were ready for us when we arrived. Unfortunately, I do not remember the servers name but he was exceptionally knowledgeable on the wine options. The Colombera wine did not disappoint. The fig flatbread and arugula salad was delicious. We also ordered dessert some had the chocolate cake and others the lemon cake. Both were delicious but I loved the lemon cake it was so light. We will come back soon!

Google
Lovely wine bar in Spring Branch. It's a seat yourself vibe. Great table service. We shared a charcuterie board with an excellent selection of cheese and meats. Excellent wine list. The desserts are amazing. I'm trying the truffles on my next visit. The bill is one of the cutest bill presentations ever, I did not mind paying. Looking forward to my next visit.

Google
Very nice environment. Got told in short words if nothing was purchased to leave , because it’s a “restaurant bar environment”. Which is completely understandable . But there was no wait , not busy. Felt pressured to purchase just needed a few minutes to look over the menu while we looked at what we wanted to drink. Came across racially profiled.

Yelp
Great wine & small snacks to eat with. Nice night out for a date night! & served quickly & kindly. Loved the ambiance with low lighting and comfy seating

Yelp
What a beautiful gem tucked away in the Spring Branch neighborhood! It takes the corner spot and shares the plaza with a claw machine place and a few other places! Pros: love the ambience, the vibes, the wall of wine selections and the cozy rounded booths and an upscale "Central Perk" coffee shop feel! Absolutely loved the comfy lounge seating and extensive menu! Service was good, not great. Cons: food menu! I feel like it could use a few more appetizers...IMO...also, we ordered the bar nuts and the fig flatbread with basil pesto...I could def use more pesto! It was a bit on the drier side for me and I wish it had more depth and crispiness to it!!! Parking can be tight, I think...but overall, I had a great experience!

Yelp
This is a cute wine bar with plenty of seating. The service was really good, 2-3 people were consistently checking on us. Happy hour wine prices for the glasses were definitely enjoyable. I didn't love the flatbreads we got, but I could tell the ingredients were fresh! I think maybe tap lights on each tables would be a nice touch, or a little dimmer inside. It didn't have the cozy/quiet feel I was expecting but still nice experience nonetheless !

Yelp
Came here on 2 occasions - once for wine and once to also try their food. The service here is very friendly - staff will go out of their way to make your visit comfortable and pleasant. The wines here are fantastic, and I enjoyed their burrata dish as well as their cheese and charcuterie board. We did the "pick 6" option, and there's an array of cheeses and meats to select from. I thought the portion was a bit on the small side for the cheeses and meats, but they were tasty. The vibe is unique and chic. There are couches with low tables, standard tables, and booths. There is plenty of parking in the lot to the left of the bar.

Yelp
Amazed by the wine selection. Vernon picked a great red for us in our price range. He and other staff were engaging and knowledgeable. Other guests were friendly without being all in you business.

Yelp
Our second successful date night here. Whether meeting with friends, impressing a first date or surprising your wife with a great date night you can't go wrong here. Oh and if you are a wine lover like us then they have over 1,000 labels from all major regions and some lesser known. The ambiance is great and the place is just a complete vibe. With 4 Somms on staff you will never be led astray. Also the food is great as are the desserts. They offer a wine club and wines to purchase and go. Run don't walk to this place.

Yelp
Im going to be completely honest...the aesthetic was there and the wine that was served was good. But the customer service/vibes were not it. I was super excited to come here and get a glass of wine and finish reading my book because what would be a more appropriate place right? Well the woman serving us was so dry and she seemed like she didn't want to there. I had asked her for more of a sweeter wine and she explained different kinds of wine but urgh she just killed my mood all around. Ruined my experience if im being honest. Also the lemon cake was dry and nasty. ...In total for 2 glasses of wine and dry cake with a side of attitude was $50 and some change. I understand if ppl are having a bad day but jezz don't rain on my parade.

Yelp
Very cute place!! Stopped by during Valentine's Day and it was very cozy and intimate inside. I have seen this place on tiktok so I couldn't wait to try this place out. I ordered the margherita flatbread and added prosciutto to it and omg.. it was SO good!! Very flavorful, crispy, and the prosciutto elevated the whole thing so much. I literally ate almost the whole thing by myself lol. As for drinks, I got the Oka "Sansho Yuzu" Japanese Bermutto. My mistake seeing "yuzu" thinking it was going to taste like citrus but all I could taste was the vermouth. It wasn't my favorite type of drink but I am glad that I tried it. My friend got the Lillet Rose Spritz and this was really good! Not too sweet, not too strong, very cute drink. I don't remember our server's name but she was very nice and attentive. She would check in on us to make sure we needed water and if the drinks/food was to our liking. I can definitely see myself coming back as this was a very cute spot to bring some friends or even go on a date!

Yelp
I regret not coming to The Library sooner. I've been eyeing it for a while, but was hesitant go by myself. Well, a friend of mine came to visit me and we decided to stop by. So glad we did! I absolutely love the old book shop feel. It's a small, cozy bar located in the Spring Branch community. Very chill vibe for a small group, date, or solo. They have an entire book of wine choices. They also have light bites that include flatbreads, salads, and charcuterie boards. Our server was nice and knowledgeable of the various wines. I told him I wanted a red wine and he asked me key questions to help me figure out just what I wanted. His recommendation was good! Just do not remember the name. We decided to order flatbreads, the smoked salmon was really good! There's a small outside patio with additional seating. I definitely return.

Julia F.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the wine selection and the charcuterie board. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming, which made it especially disappointing when it came to our server. He barely acknowledged us, didn't check in, and didn't make any effort to engage, even when we tried to initiate conversation about what wines to order. Meanwhile, he was noticeably warm and attentive to other nearby tables. At first I wondered if I was reading too much into it, but I later saw another review describing a very similar experience. That made me feel like it might not have been a one-off. Whatever the reason, it left us feeling out of place, and unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Amazing service! The waiters are very knowledgeable and offer great advice based on your preferences and price point. The food options are filling or light if you're looking for a full meal or quick snack. Very cute vibe with wine bottles spaced between books everywhere. I'd definitely go again

Lucits D.

Yelp
Very knowledgeable people and the atmosphere is beautiful. The wines are amazing and I learned so much in just 2 hours while there. It's a little noisy for reading. Please do not expect to get a good read. I struggled to focus. But I would return for wine with friends or a cute date
google avatar

Yelp
We joined some friends for a pre-dinner glass of wine. This is a lovely spot with charming ambience & books stacked around the booths on the back wall. We jetted off to dinner while our friends stayed to enjoy flatbread pizza - they said it was great. Very close to Tatemo, Well Done Cooking & Barney's and a few more spots.

Yelp
I'm so happy to have this local, East Spring Branch wine bar in the neighborhood. There is literally a book of bottle options and a deep by the glass list accompanied by a Sommelier's by the glass list. The service is friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong with one of their recommendations. There are a small number of food options and everything I've tried has been good. Give this group a try for after work, date night or an evening with friends.

Yelp
Such a quaint and fun place! The staff is very knowledgeable and the food is delicious. Im still amazed by the selection of wines this place has considering its size but man the pack them in! I look forward to more trips to the library!

Yelp
Came on a Saturday afternoon, for a GNO, for the first time. Before I went, I had read the Google reviews, and all I saw was people complaining about the fact that people were disappointed this was not a real library. Not sure if people were just trolling, or truly confused by the name of the place versus what they offered? Either way, those reviews need to be taken down. When I actually arrived, I thought the place was cutely designed. Love the idea of being surrounded by books. Drinks- I created my own wine flight. By doing a half pour glass of all 3 sparkling wines: Gruhier Crement, German Gilbert Cava Rose, Lambrusco. I was pretty nice. Service - was pretty good. Karl and another server, provided friendly service. Love that every receipt has book titles on them, very creative. Because of all the books, I almost wish it was more cozy, so you could curl up and read and drink solo. Crowd was mostly groups, or folks on dates.

Yelp
The Library is a cute wine bar. I would love to have a nook with a mirror in my house. I liked my glass of wine and the seasoned almonds were delicious.

Yelp
Really enjoy this wine bar in Spring Branch. Wonderful selection of wines and desserts. Cheese boards and chocolate. Great spot for after dinner drinks! Bring back the lime tart please!

Yelp
What didn't go well!! When you walk up to the business you don't really get a feel for what to expect till u cross the threshold. The vibe is so low key and welcoming. The staff is quick to get you seated and have great recommendations when you need a little help deciding what wine you would or should taste. I wanted a different wine than my usual and it seems like everyone that works there knows what they are talking about! There are so many flatbread and charcuterie options to fit so many tastes. I loved the fact that they have a booklet with a list of wine topic readings from all over the world. My friend and I just had such a great time chit chatting it up and enjoying a great evening. Thanks for curating such a wonderful space! I can't wait to be back!
google avatar

Caroline R.

Yelp
The boards are delicious and great for a charcuterie night on the town! The waiter was so funny and attentive and the atmosphere is lively and classy. Highly recommend coming early though because they get busy!!

Yelp
Fridays are made for wine, flatbread and gelato. On our 2nd visit to the Library wine and Bar , we had equally excellent service from Carl who gave us a great explanation of new wines on their changing menu. The garden flatbread with basil, pesto, smoked feta, mozzarella, baked squash, roasted pepper, garlic confit shallots with arugula was the right mix of fresh herbs balanced with vegetables. Wine choice was Irpinia Aglianico from Toscana Italy by Bellaria Roccabascerana . This southern Italian wine with largely volcanic and granitic soil offers a bold wine with blackberry plum notes , truffle earthy notes with red fruit cherry notes. Finale: their gelato trio with pistachio, strawberry and stracciatella sweet cream with chocolate chips was a great ending to an excellent meal. The library is set in Spring Branch with ample places to park if come early with comfortable seating and a casual upscale atmosphere that welcomes all. Looking forward to a return visit .

Yelp
The cutest little wine bar! We stopped in during the week to try this place out. It was not very busy and we found seats right away. We did not get food but all the food coming out of the kitchen looked awesome. The staff is super nice and helpful with picking out what wine you would like. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Libby H.

Yelp
This place is lovely! Although I thought it would have more books in the ambiance and decor - it's still very cute and cozy vibes. The wine we wanted originally - our waiter searched the depths and unfortunately didn't have - but we continued on with the other Chenin blanc choice and a red later and we enjoyed both of them a lot! I wish they did wine flights for more variety.
google avatar

Yelp
The Library is a spot that stands out for food and wine lovers alike. With an inviting and cozy atmosphere it is a culinary delight with the variety of light bites that are not only visually appealing, but also delicious. The wine list has an extensive section from around the world and with the staffs knowledge you are sure to get a great recommendation for the perfect pairing. The Library is a hidden gem in a growing area of Houston and cannot recommend enough.
google avatar

Yelp
When The Library Wine Bar popped up on my Yelp feed I knew had to check it out. We had just finished dinner out but could not resist a stop at this local wine bar in Spring Branch. As you walk in you can feel the warm ambiance of wine and books shelves scattered throughout the restaurant. We decided on wine and dessert for just a taste to see how the service was on a Thursday night. No lie, we had at least 5 wait staff check on us , refill our water glasses without asking and ask if we needed anything else. We had 3 types of gelato that were scrumptious in generous portions for $7. Wine choice: off the beaten path wine selection of Domaine d'homs "Vindici Maux" Malbec Cahors 2020. Big ripe and juicy wine with dense tanins with black fruit flavors with fresh violets and black raspberry ,plum skin , black pepper and gravely earth aged in stainless steel without added sulfites. Delish!! Quite the eclectic crowd and the bartenders even came by to see how we were enjoying our night. Would absolutely return and plan on bringing friends. Highly recommend.

Yelp
I had seen many videos for this business on both IG and TikTok. As an avid reader, I knew this was a place that I wanted to check out. Imagine my excitement when I learned of a book swap that was being held there! I jumped at the opportunity to attend. Upon entering, you are immediately taken in by the cozy atmosphere. There are books strategically placed throughout. There's plenty of seating; at the bar, booths, tables, small intimate seating areas for smaller parties or outside. The menu offers a selection of wines, cocktails, mocktails, beer & light bites. Our server was great and made wonderful recommendations. He was attentive and expertly handled our large party. There is ample free parking in front of and on the side of the business. This is a great spot for readers and wine enthusiasts alike. It's perfect for date night, girls night or a solo venture to take in the atmosphere and enjoy your drink of choice.
google avatar

Kennedy W.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance. Low lighting, wine, and great aesthetics. Our server was knowledgeable and nice. I had already eaten before arriving so we just stuck to gelato and dessert wine. The wine I would have preferred was unavailable and I wasn't a fan of the glass I got but ultimately I'd return. There's such a variety and would be a great date night or chill girls night out.
google avatar

Yelp
We were excited to try this bar but were disappointed in the pretentious service and hefty prices for average wine and subpar grub. We won't be back.
google avatar

Hope E.

Yelp
I absolutely love The Library! I've been here a handful of times now for a few occasions. From book club with the girls to date night, it is such a great vibe! The menu is so so extensive- and I love the education sprinkled throughout the wine list. Having a nice easy list of rotating by the glass options is great though because it keeps you from feeling overwhelmed. I also recently stopped in to grab a bottle of wine to go because they offer retail. The bartender on duty was so sweet- I had no idea what I wanted but he helped me narrow it down, let me sample a couple things, and helped me stay in budget. Can't wait to head back here soon!
google avatar

Joy L.

Yelp
The Library offers a charming and super cute vibe that sets it apart as one of the best wine bars in Houston and also one of my personal faves. Stepping into this library-themed bar, you're greeted with shelves adorned with books on wine, creating a cozy atmosphere. The outdoor patio has plenty of seating as well. Definelt one of the most beautiful modern spaces and provides the perfect place for larger groups and friends to hang out. The knowledgeable staff enhances the experience, guiding you through their huge wine selection with expertise and enthusiasm. Whether you're a wine aficionado or a novice, there's something for everyone here. The Library truly is a hidden gem and easily becomes a favorite spot for those who discover it. If you're looking for a unique and delightful wine bar experience in Houston, The Library is a must-visit!! Plenty of parking in the plaza but might be hard if it's a busy weekend night

Yelp
The Library wine bar is a small and intimate wine bar. Great for meeting with friends or family you haven't seen in a long time. Definitely the library vibe. They have a very nice and simple wine selection, which is a breath of fresh air after going to so many wine bars that have 2 pages worth of wines that can be overwhelming. I was in a white wine mood. Our wine connoisseur who assisted us this night was VERY knowledgeable and recommended the Heinz chilled white wine, which was fabulous. A nice, crisp white wine with a hint of sweetness hit the spot! I ordered us their assorted chocolates (which was needed this night). The chocolates were okay.. they were BEAUTIFUL, but the taste wasn't out of this world for $16 worth of 6 very small chocolates laid out on a plate. Another negative is that it was VERY WARM in the wine bar, which made it a bit uncomfortable. Altogether, the wine and ambiance were awesome. Self parking right in front of the wine bar in the spring branch area. I would give it a try for an intimate night with a friend and/or family in small groups.
google avatar

Bay B.

Yelp
Really great staff! They've never steered me wrong when I want to try something different. Love the cute atmosphere and the dessert options!
google avatar

Veronica L.

Yelp
I love the concept of this place! It was a great first experience since I'm not really a wine person myself. There are good selections of wine & the servers were really nice & helpful in helping me choose! The inside is cozy & there's also an outside patio area but we didn't get to check that out. We got some cakes to munch while drinking wine. The lemon poppy was our fav! They don't make the cake in-house but buy from a local small business baker.
google avatar

Evelyn L.

Yelp
Spring branch doesn't really have that many good places so I was really excited to try out this place. I thought the place was lovely. I loved the decor and ambiance. Our server was funny and took good care of us. There were so many options to choose from. However I was kinda underwhelmed with how bland the flat bread was. We politely asked for pepper, and the waitress looked very confused and didn't know if they had some which was super strange. The parking situation was slightly annoying. I had to circle around twice to find a spot. I would give this place a 3.5
google avatar

Sanaa C.

Yelp
Met up with a friend for a girls night here. It's a cute moody wine bar. It's out of the way for me, but I'd come back if I was in the area. They have a nice selection of wines, but I think it has more potential. I think they would do well to add some wine based cocktails to their menu or maybe some wine flights.
google avatar

Yelp
Cozy and friendly atmosphere with a great wine selection. Enjoyable light bites as well.

Yelp
Very helpful staff with excellent recommendations and service. Ambience is A+. Inside and outside seating options.

Yelp
This was our last stop of new places for hubs and I to try. It was the best of the evening. The staff all work together as a team, they are informative, unobtrusive yet right there when needed. I had the Chardonnay from Burgundy and it was perfect! It went so well with the Boquerones Agrias that I almost asked for more. It's hard for me to find anchovies marinated and delicious like you get in Europe. These definitely hit that mark. They weren't too "fishy" just enough lemon and olive oil and I enjoyed the chive on top. We ordered a 4-choice board to share. It was very good. The atmosphere is chic and comfortable. I really like how they integrated a library feel to the space. It wasn't over done, just enough. Now here's where they had me (other than the wine & bites); when our check came, it was placed in a library card holder! Ah! How cool is that?! It is the little things, for sure. We will definitely come back.
google avatar

Erika Z.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday night with some friends to celebrate a birthday. It was a nice level of busy where there were other people/groups but the environment was still pretty quiet so you could have good conversation. The service was excellent and friendly, and they made good wine recommendations based on the flavors were looking for. There was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors, and I liked that the outdoor area was enclosed, giving a sense of privacy. There are parking spots in front as well as (I believe) more parking spots on the other side of the lot.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
The library was such a cute place. A sophisticated yet relaxed vibe perfect for a group of friends or a date night. The space is decorated and designed very nicely with books and bottles of wine all around you. The small bites were delicious and the wine was great with a wide selection of glasses or bottles to choose from. We had great service and felt very attended to during our visit. I'll definitely be back!

Kyla B.

Yelp
Loved this place! Good night out with friends. Could also be a very nice spot for a date.

Yelp
Calling all my wine lovers... we have a new place for us to seek refugee!! Lol, just kidding, but this place is such a gem. Located in Spring Branch, The Library offers everything one could look for. They have plenty of offerings, and their food items are pretty good, too. If you wanted a flatbread or a cheese board, they would be able to fill your appetite needs. The team that works there is also very knowledgeable in wine. My bestie and I advised them of our wine preferences, and they picked out a bottle that was delicious! If you don't mind splurging, treat yourself!! I will definitely be returning here! Bianca

Yelp
Such a cute and cozy location with a great wine selection. There are limited food options, but the selection pairs great with the wines. The decor and lighting make this an intimate bar, great for date night or girls night. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, but I went on a rainy day so it was incredibly crowded inside and because they do not take reservations, there were a lot of people waiting at the door for a table inside. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. While there is ample parking, it was very busy and took a few minutes to find parking.

Li L.

Yelp
Maybe it is the photos that triggered high hope, came with a friend on Friday night, okay wines selections with Okay dishes .
google avatar

Carla H.

Yelp
Decided to stop by through the week since I was in the area. The parking is limited because the location is in a plaza. The ambiance is very sleek and it's a very quiet wine bar not a lot of loud talking and low music. Wasn't sure what to order but my friend ordered a Salmon Flatbread that was very fishy. I think I would ordered it without the salmon next time. When I looked at the menu I was surprised at the prices as the neighborhood/area doesn't fit for the price. The very was okay I didn't feel like I'd order another drink because the waiter didn't offer or check on us one the glass was completed. I felt it was over twenty minutes before he noticed us which was not the experience deserved. Overall the place is small, service was just okay, and wouldn't come back do to the service. I expected better service for the price.

Yelp
I'm a native of SpringBranch and was so happy to see a wine bar open in my neighborhood. So, obviously, I have to check it out and absolutely love it. It's so charming! the cozy vibe is superb for me. I love going on weekdays.

Love this little place. It does get a little crowded sometimes but the staff is super friendly and helpful to try their best to get you a seat. Nice selection of by the glass and bottles. Lemon poppy seed cake is great but def sharable between 3 people. Any board order, I'd ask for more bread/toast every time. If they had liquor, I'd be there a lot more.

Yelp
This spot is aesthetically cute! A great selection of wine and kind staff. It is next to a Washateria so it is easy to miss. I feel like it is a little pricey and the charcuterie board options are expensive with not as many options as you'd think. The vibe is really nice and is a great place to work or just enjoy a nice glass of wine while having casual conversation.
