What Happens to LA Bar Culture and Its Bartenders After COVID? - Eater LA

Was refused service by the bartender/owner who claimed she couldn’t serve or allow me and my girlfriend in their establishment because they wouldn’t accept her valid ID.

Google
Closed at 1 am. So if you got here at 1230 and chose to be at a place that closes at 2. This ain't it. Shit....if you got here at 1255 it doesn't matter. Closes when they feel like....not the hrs posted. :( find a better place is my only advice.

Google
This is the best little dive bar in LA. Rojia makes fire mezcal margaritas and most importantly I feel safe as a single woman at the bar alone.

Daniel Burrell

Google
Awesome drinks and the bartender, Rojia, is fantastic!!!!!! She made me drinks I've never had before!!! Not too crowded,Cool experience, AMAZING SERVICE AND PHENOMENAL DRINKS!!!! If you're in the L.A. area and she's here make your way in!!

Google
Awesome experience! We we're here for a few hours on our way through LA and was one of the best experiences weve had at a bar. The bartender was phenomenal and made us amazing drinks. Very welcoming and friendly environment. 11/10 would recommend to anyone in the area! This place is a MUST ❤️🙏

Google
Cool A$$ spot and Rojia is an awesome bartender.

Google
Very cozy atmosphere! Not the cheapest but I’m sure you’ll find much more expensive in LA! Friendly staff and I like the interior.

Google
The woman working at the bar definitely doesn't know how to treat people

Yelp
Good vibes, small bar, & perfect hideout when wanting to unplug. A fun karaoke experience. Last Karaoke Song I sang: The Rain - Oran "Juice" Jones

Yelp
Came here for my friend bday this past Friday and we had a very good time! He was able to have his own section and tables, and order food. We also could bring games to play, which was very fun. We enjoyed ourselves and the guava cocktail was very good. It's very small inside but intimate small bar. I would come back here for the future and grab a drink. I dislike the parking situation it's only street parking and it's pretty scarce. -Marshay D.

Yelp
Love Love Love! One of my favorite bars in LA and a place that I always recommend when friends are in town! This place is a VIBE! Great for a night out with friends or if you want to chill in a dimly lit place with great drinks. For how busy this place gets, the service is great and rojia is on it! There is a jukebox and can chill out. Been here many times with my girlfriend and will continue to make it when I'm in the area! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Yelp
Little Bar made the perfect location for a Galentine's potluck. It was rainy, and cold, and while my dream was to have a picnic outside on a sunny day, February made that impossible. Little Bar is the next best option. You can BYO food, but they provide great drinks. Even an espresso martini! Required on a girls night. Service was always with a smile, and the bartender Rojia even helped us clean up our food mess. They have big tables and booths and plenty of space. Great for a chatty, casual evening!

Yelp
little bar is literally my favorite bar in america. i've been coming here for over 10 years and i have been served by many people here, but the owner Rojia is by far the best part of the little bar experience. Rojia is the heart and soul of the neighborhood - she goes the extra mile to make everybody feel welcome and comfortable. i will be going to little bar forever.

Yelp
The little bar is definitely befitting of its name. It is actually completely that; a little bar. Walking in, it is a little outdated and you can tell that it needed some touchups. When we walked in, there were not a lot of people but, the music was really good. There is no food served so if you want to go somewhere to just have a quick drink and relax, this is your place to be. Unfortunately, there was only one bartender and she was at times very preoccupied. Towards the end of our time there, we wanted to get the bartender to close out our tab. However, she was tending to some other patrons outside for about 20 minutes before she came back in. It probably would have been helpful if it was more than one bartender. I did not have a drink but I did hear from other people that the drinks were very good. The bartender even came up with something non-alcoholic for a friend that she definitely enjoyed. I would probably not come back because I do enjoy places that provide food however, it is a nice bar to just relax in and to have a drink or two.

Yelp
Amazing experience, they really do make you feel like you're at home. The prices are far beyond reasonable, and the vibe is very chill. It's a bar where you can talk, mingle, or just relax and read a book. The drinks are delicious, its a full bar and take what you want with that. I highly recommend ordering a guava cocktail

Yelp
Little Bar exceeded my expectations! Came in for a quick drink after a disappointing cocktail across the street, and Rojia really knocked it out of the park! She made me a stellar whiskey sour (as it should be made - with egg whites and luxardo cherries). It must have been happy hour and I got the house bourbon, so the drink came out to be under $10.... unreal. Vibes were great. Not too crowded on a Friday night around 7PM. I already went back within a week, it's that good. Definitely for the locals!

Yelp
The bar was cool. Mellow vibes. I will be returning for drinks with my buds. Service was ok. Could do better.

Yelp
(4.5 stars) This place is my kind of spot. Small. Kind of divey. Decent craft beer on tap. Friendly bartender (cheers to you, Derek!). Lots of bar seating. Happy hour. I'm just dinging them a half star because of the horribly ugly bar surface. This type of bar deserves a lovely wood bar top. Cheers!

Yelp
Was here on Saturday with some coworkers and friends. I was really impressed that there was only one bartender, Rojia but boy did she hold it down! She gave us fast and friendly service while making me feel safe having such a strong crowd control game!! She kept the weirdos out while maintaining a fun environment! Thank you for providing us with such a pleasant evening! I hope to see you again soon!!
google avatar

Yelp
Little Bar is one my favorite go-to spots in LA! The vibes are great -- the bar is always busy but not too loud to hear your friends or too packed to get a seat. They have one of my favorite beers on tap (Allagash White), and the bartenders are always great. If you're looking for a cozy spot to catch up with friends or watch a game, this is a must-try!
google avatar

Yelp
Cool, laid back environment. Had a good spirits selection and Hamm's Tall boys! The Bar tender was helpful and on it!
google avatar

Beau H.

Yelp
The service was unfortunately, so poor that we couldn't even go inside. At the door at the door at 10:30 way before closing hours a female bartender told us that she's not serving anymore while she was out front smoking a cigarette "because she doesn't feel like it"and we couldn't even go in.
google avatar

Keiry C.

Yelp
Coziest and most welcoming bar in the neighborhood! Rojia is an absolute beast, working the bar alone and still making sure everyone is having a great time. Been coming for over a year and half now and it's always been a pleasure.
google avatar

Aydin A.

Yelp
I have a hard time finding local bars with inexpensive drinks, friendly bartenders, and regulars. This place checks all those boxes. Will definitely be returning! Roja was fantastic!

Yelp
Sometimes the best things come in little packages, Little Bar is one of those packages, this place is great! I have few go to's for cocktails in LA, Little Bar for me is the best one to go to for quality drinks. In my opinion Little Bar deserves an all around hard 5 star, for service and amazing tasing cocktails here's why I give this place a 5 star: Let me just start with Rojia the bartender. She is truly a force, she makes really good cocktails, and delivers a great customer experience . This is one of the only places I can go to by myself to have a drink and not feel concerned about my safety . Rojia is actually a really great bar owner she really knows how to run her business , she talks to everyone and pretty much knows her cliental really well. The ambience she creates is always good, and the bathrooms are always clean. Every detail in this bar, big or small is a reflection of Rojia . She really knows how to create community, and keep the local customers coming back. If you haven't gone to Little Bar in LA, her name is Rojia. She is by far one of the best if not the best bartender in LA.

Yelp
Little Bar is an awesome welcoming spot with many cool peeps and an authentic vibe. It rules! Also, Rojia is the best bartender!! She's amazing!!

Erika P.

Yelp
This bar is amazing! The bartender is so knowledgeable and will always get you the drink you didn't know you wanted. There's always fresh produce for garnishes (one of my biggest pet peeves) and the drinks are balanced and sublime!
google avatar

Yelp
Small neighborhood bar in mid city. Solid spot to grab a quick beer or cocktail. Think I've only seen one bartender working at a time, hasn't been an issue since it doesn't get too busy. Staff is friendly and attentive. Drink prices are decent, about $10 if I remember correctly. Better than the draft cocktails across the street at All Seasons Brewing.
google avatar

Felix M.

Yelp
This place is an utter delight! The bar manager is so welcoming and kind, she also knows everyone's name and will never forget your drink order. The vibes are immaculate even when sports are on. Literally why go anywhere else in this neighborhood!??

Daniel H.

Yelp
Rojia is one of the best bartenders and bar owners I've met She makes Amazing Cocktails and her service is impeccable Love coming after work during the week This cozy spot is a gem

Kiki C.

Yelp
I come for the vibe and the deliciously spicy Mezcal margarita Rojia makes hits the spot every time! Great service, even when it's crowded.

Matt D.

Yelp
Best neighborhood spot in mid city. Friendly service and staff. Drinks are always great. They have darts which is a fun addition. Little bar is a weekly hang for my friends and I. Also who could go wrong with touch tunes in the bar! We are grateful for this local spot.

Yelp
Came around 11 pm on a Saturday night and the bartender said they stopped serving. Hours said open til 2 am, so I am a bit confused on why? She wasn't very friendly either, seemed very annoyed.
google avatar

Adan J.

Yelp
Medium size bar..gave me a vibe of an "only locals welcomed" felt like the locals feel entitled to the spaces available..tables, stools..upside that restrooms clean and very personal to do your duties. Not sure if food is available but didn't ask or checked. First appearance means a lot to me and I did not feel to welcomed..but I'm willing to give it a second chance..but not for a while since there's other options near by.
google avatar

Yelp
Little to see here , over run by children and rude bartenders - we entered as a group of four, bought beers at the bar for 2 while 2 held a spot at the dart boards when the bartender told our friend to leave when she had an expired license with a DMV printed renewal and a passport on her.

Juan L.

Yelp
I love this bar and love rojia she is the best! the service is %100 I feel at home coming here and I always will come to this bar! I recommend a lot of my friends And family to come here won't be disappointed! the vibe is always chill and the ppl love rojia!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute neighborhood spot. I've come in a few times and it never disappoints! The place is on the small side but not ridiculously so, touchtunes, darts, multiple tvs. The crowd is friendly, very much a 'regulars' spot. ROJIA is the ABSOLUTE best, by far. Am always impressed at how attentive she is, even when slammed. I did unfortunately witness her be blatantly disrespected from what seemed like her manager? He was SCREAMING at her in FRONT of the patrons throwing out ALL the slurs. Wild behavior. She handled herself well amidst all the chaos and continued to tend to her guests. Fuck that guy, whoever he was. A spot worth checking out, take care of Ms Rojia!
google avatar

Alex T.

Yelp
Just tried to go Friday at 5:30pm. I was so looking forward to it. Just moved into the neighborhood and needed a friendly bar. Sadly, it was closed. . Will they reopen?
google avatar

Caroline Grace H.

Yelp
I feel bad leaving a negative review because when I went on Thursday night, it seemed there was only one person working so she was obviously super swamped...but she couldn't make a dark n stormy. It's a 2 ingredient drink, like come on. Instead I received some weird lime and mezcal tasting margarita thing, and when she gave it to me she confidently went "dark n stormy"! It was no where near what it's supposed to be and she was so busy that when I tried to ask her to fix it, I was ignored because I already had a drink! $14 for a drink I didn't order :(

Jens E.

Yelp
Rojia is a great bartender and fun person. She has great stories and a vibrant personality. I would come back to this bar any time for the great drinks and atmosphere. I met my wife at this bar
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
We went to this bar last week and it was great. Good atmosphere and the owner was very friendly - will definitely be back! The main reason I'm writing this review is because the owner told my friend and I that, if Zion Williamson plays 50+ games in this coming season, he will give us free beers. He was so confidant in his slander of poor Zion, and I wanted this cold take preserved in the archives of yelp forever. See you at game 51! Attached is a photo of him as he said it.

Mark K.

Yelp
Rojia is the absolute GOAT. She handles a full bar like a boss, often times solo. The Mid city crowd can be a handful but she effortlessly maneuvers with charm and grace. Top notch cocktail. Top notch service. And I bullseyed at darts. So I guess this is my Cheers bar? 11/10

Palmer W.

Yelp
This is the quintessential "good times" bar in LA. Captained by Rojia, the eccentric owner/bartender who brings the place to life, I've never walked through the doors here without making some sort of memory. Great drinks, great people, great music, darts... the place has it all. Rojia does a great job holding the place down. She gets everyone what they need to order, she keeps the place safe from creeps, and she makes friends with every decent person who walks in. Absolute love this place -- but love Rojia even more.

Frank C.

Yelp
Cool neighborhood bar, we were having a chill night until the female bartender with short brown hair got served, what we overheard was a a restraining order. Then we watched her freak out and run out from behind the bar, outside yelling something about a license plate to the guy that served her! I've never been to a bar and watched anyone, let alone an employee be served a restraining order. Will not be coming back, that was an experience.

Carinna A.

Yelp
The girl serving this bar Wednesday ( 6/26). White top pixie hair cut brownish red hair was the rudest person I've ever met. She was completely unprofessional and trying to deny my friends and I service for no reason. My group of four walked into the bar- I went to a booth to save a spot: she claimed that me and another were way too drunk and she should kick us out. I literally walked in and sat down. She was legitimately denying my friend water. I've never encountered such bad service in my life. The ambiance was fine the woman was unacceptable.

Sydney B.

Yelp
Rojia is the best bartender there is. she makes anyone and everyone feel welcome. I love coming to Little Bar and knowing I'll see Rojia holding the place down without fail. Little Bar forever!!!!

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by here last night after having dinner and figured we'd order a drink and ring in the New Year. My friend's Paloma was trash-neither her or I liked it which begs the question how can you f*ck up a Paloma?? We only had a good time because of the people that were in there but since the bartender was by herself she was complaining up a STORM. At some point she was telling everyone to keep it down because of her neighbors-sis, this is a BAR. If your neighbors choose to live next to or on top of a bar, understand that noise comes with the territory. Secondly it's NEW YEAR in a metropolitan city, not a small down in Idaho, let people live or close down the bar for the night that way you can have a quiet bar :)

Luke B.

Yelp
Their website says that they're open at 5pm on Mondays, but when I went to meet a friend here last night, they were still shuttered at 5:30pm. We ended up hanging at All Seasons across the street for a few hours, and Little Bar was still closed when we left around 7:45. Did they close?
google avatar

Francesca M.

Yelp
The perfect local bar to have a drink and watch the game. It's a really chill place with lots of regulars and people that live in the neighborhood. The bartenders are fabulous - super friendly and they make *really good* drinks. You can't go wrong with the guava tequila drink shaken to perfection... *yum* It's more relaxed than the bar across the street, so stop in on an afternoon for a few drinks, or come in the evening with some friends before dinner. Enjoy!
google avatar

Mike R.

Yelp
I really love this neighborhood bar. It reminds me of the old '80s show "Cheers," where everybody knows your name. Rojia the head bartender can juggle a packed bar, but is a total artist with her cocktails. I like her to just surprise me (since I can never decide what I want) and I'm always impressed.

Aaron J.

Yelp
Bad service came in 1hr before close and denied service. woman was eating and not working.

Julia F.

Yelp
Loved my experience at little bar. The shawty behind the bar was killin it. Thank you
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
The bartender don't know her name but she's a white girl with short dyed blond hair is amazing. There was situation on Thursday night 6/15/2023 in which some patrons tried to get one over her and not provide identification and she handled it better than I would have given how she was being treated. She was great and she's a hard worker, the whole bar was on her side so if you see someone posting something negative about her, it's just out of spite. She was just doing her job.
google avatar

Cj B.

Yelp
Looking for a dive bar? This is the perfect dive bar. Drinks were fairly priced and the bartender was nice as well,

Yelp
went for a night cap with my partner and was shocked by the the experience. If your bar is keen to comply with state law and have people FINISHED not FINISHING a drink by 2AM perhaps you should consider doing your last call slightly earlier and/or letting people know this when they order -- never in my life have i had a bartender yell "chug!!!!!!" at me and attempt to grab the glass out of my hand. The woman behind the bar seemed overwhelmed and burnt out beyond- and it is reflected in how she treats her patrons. It was especially disturbing to me because the bar was still full with other customers still drinking-- hard not to feel like this was influenced by some personal prejudice (my partner and I are a queer, interracial couple) on behalf of the short haired woman who seemed to be running show and it felt ostracising. The way the bartender was speaking was unhinged and maniacal. Do not go here if you wish to be treated like a person-- somehow every other bar in the world manages to do a last call/closing of the bar in a humane manner, so what is Little Bar missing? Anyway, as liquor providers in a liquor primary establishment it is your responsibility to have your bar closed in a timely manner and your establishment would benefit greatly from treating people (paying customers) with respect and an ounce of dignity in the process (aka basic hospitality). will happily never return and I hope this review can save someone else the joyless experience that is little bar.

Yelp
The bartender on Friday made my evening. Incredibly kind and welcoming and made sure I was ok- even put a napkin over my drink (when I went to restroom) and no one has ever done that for me out of all the times I've ever been out. Awesome bartender, and just made my evening because of the consideration.

Carl B.

Yelp
Bartender made me cry. I ordered one of the cheapest shots and only had $10, thought that would be enough as I had a more expensive shot across the street for $6.17. He hands me the shot and its $15, i apologized and said i didn't know it would be $15, and i wouldnt be able to have the shot. There was a kind woman next to me who said "you know what, pay your $10, ill pay 5" i said no i cant do that, i wouldn't want you to have to pay for me, and she said it was fine. The bartender however, did not want to accept her money. He said i should have asked him before he poured the shot, and i apologized saying i ordered a cheap shot and i didnt realize it would be that much, im sorry. He wasn't having it. People started coming up saying the shot surely wont go to waste, because one of them would buy it, but the bartender absolutely wasn't having it. At that point i said im really sorry, i didnt know it was that big of a deal, and luckily i left before i started crying. If you want kindness and empathy, do not go here.
