My coworker was raving about their fish taco on our way to get coffee this morning. After a particular hard day at work, and today being opening day from the pandemic, I decided it would be a good day to treat myself.
The employee at the register greeted me and I told him it was my first time there. He told me to take as much time as I needed. The menu is only available at the register, and it's taped down. So I suggest looking up their menu ahead of time so you know what you want. I got the Ensenada fish taco and plantain/black bean taco, and made it a meal with rice and refried black beans. I also got a pineapple agua fresca, which was available today.
I seated myself after placing the order, and I didn't have to wait long despite all the takeout orders I saw (and heard because there was so much pinging). I can see why my coworker was raving about the fish taco-it was so good! It was a perfectly battered fish, and definitely not the frozen filet kind. It was a good portion of fish-to-slaw ratio. And the slaw added freshness to it. It also wasn't oily. I definitely could've eaten another one. But I wanted to try the plantain taco, and that's what filled me up.
The plantain taco came with black beans, chopped onions and cilantro, red bell pepper, and other toppings. I'm one of those that think cilantro tastes weird, but I didn't mind it with the onions. I was really full two bites in, and I had hardly touched the rice and refried beans. I only had an iced mocha and a protein bar to eat today, so I was starving when dinner time came around. But of course I finished my meal because I just power through the feeling of a full stomach.
And the pineapple fresca was delicious! Perfect for a warm day like today.
I'm not sure if they're still limiting how many people can eat inside, but it looks like all tables are open. And I like that the food is served in compostable dinnerware.
I will definitely dine here again.
