"Camden Passage may have the kooky antique shops and bouji chocolatiers, but Chapel Market is the real beating heart of Islington — nowhere else do all the area’s various strands of DNA fuse together so comprehensively. This is another way of saying Chapel Market can be kind of overwhelming — it is hard, sometimes, to see the wood for the trees. This is another way of saying that it is eminently possible to overlook Thuy Pham’s discreet little whitewashed dining room, which would be a shame, as it represents a singular take on Vietnamese food in a city not short of excellent Vietnamese options. The menu changes regularly but a fiery chicken curry is a mainstay (and well worth a look); a Lovecraftian burger melding beef with a whole fried softshell crab is deliberately A Lot but transcends stunt dish mediocrity in its incorporation of bánh mì staples like chicken pâté and pickled carrots. Those unable to make the trip to North London should keep a close eye on Dishpatch — LVK regularly makes its Feast kits available for nationwide delivery." - George Reynolds

Absolutely lovely little shabby chic Vietnamese restaurant. The quality of the food is so evident, there's so much love put into each meal. Service was also great! I requested halal chicken prior to coming and the lovely owner accommodated my wishes. I felt so welcome here

Amazing food. I was impressed by the short rib pho. The price is high, but it was worth it.... and the desserts were also divine. I was pleased my friend recommended here and would definitely return.

Authentic. Tasty. Great Atmosphere. Both Pho and curry were so nice and fresh. Meat within the dishes was tender, well cooked. Plus, I could actually taste and feel how the chef devoted himself to cook the broth and source. Price is quite high compared to other palces but worthy enough. Had a great Sunday lunch and will definitely visit again. Don't miss the Vietnamese drip coffee :D

Amazing little restaurant in Angel, super cozy interior, delicious food, friendly staff, reasonable prices. What more could you want. The chef started out with a supper club at home and opened this place a few years ago. This year it was voted best Asian restaurant in England! And for good reasons. The dishes are absolutely delicious. Try the great street food snacks such as pork spring role or soy sauce aubergine and mushrooms. The lemongrass and coconut curry is heavenly but not for the faint-hearted. It's all rounded off by a great bar with plenty of infused gins and great cocktails. Try it, you won't regret it. Please give me a thumbs up if you found this review helpful.

After been to so many Vietnamese restaurants, I have to say this one it's different and unique. Very cute decoration and good main course portion size. Just need to be aware that the price is higher than normal Vietnamese restaurant you been to. After all, I would love to return, non-alcoholic lychee cocktails is yum!

What a magnificent little spot with the most attentive and personal staff. We didn’t have a bad dish, but the highlights were the coconut beef curry, broccoli & pork spring rolls. For dessert, the cheesecakes are divine 😁 Also if you fancy a tipple, the top shelf tequila is worth a shot

Unfortunately as with a lot of trendy restaurants the table was tiny and sandwiched tightly in between two, 3 panelled Louvre shutters which made it claustrophobic, and dark. We ordered 5 dishes and literally 15 minutes later they all turned up at once leaving us scrambling for space. Little plant had to go and water put on the floor. Spring rolls look nice, but were bland not meaty and the diagonal cut made them cold quickly. Sauce was ok. Ribs tasty but over sauced with sticky sauce, I can see people liking these but salty and overpowering the pork. Whole fish very tasty. But all the sauces have a similar theme so we didn’t have a variety of flavours really. Breaded prawns were crispy and soft inside with a Mayo type sauce and this dish was different. I think of Vietnamese as more subtle and herby but with the menu that evening it was all a bit “same same but different “ as they say in Asia. We purposely avoided the Pho as we had it many other places. Would have been nice to see the prawn pancakes or other herby dishes that night. We had. Pork ribs, breaded prawns, pork spring rolls, fried sea bass, chicken dumplings. 2 beers £75. But everything turned up at once and made the meal table busy and rush. We were out in an hour and bloated. 5/10.

Very nice place away from Angel station and hustle of Islington. Beautiful flavours and fresh food - at Islington prices! The coconut and lemongrass curry was great though a little on the "too much chilli for me" side - and I can tolerate hot Indian chilli food. The pho was fantastic as was the pork dumplings starter. Cheesecake for dessert is a must - very light and not too heavy.

Yelp
The Little Viet Kitchen is one of those 'cutesy' looking restaurants. It's pretty popular on IG. Coming from Seattle, there's a large Vietnamese population and absolutely no shortage of great Vietnamese food. I won't say the food is here truly 'authentic,' but I still think it tastes really unique. The beef pho has a minty-tasting broth and the meat peels right off the bone. The broth has a lot of flavor- heavy on spices, and isn't as loaded with sodium (menu says they don't use MSG). Also, the lemontrass tiger prawns are delicious. Islington is a bit far from the town, but it's cool to venture out here with an Uber or black cab just to switch up from the mainstream tourist hubs of London.

Yelp
I'm really picky with my Vietnamese food, and this place definitely hit the spot. I was visiting London from California and I was craving Vietnamese food cause sometime I like trying Vietnamese from in different countries and this definitely did not disappoint. The pho was so flavorful and I wish I went back one more time before I left. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Coming for Westminster California and being Vietnamese I wasn't expecting this experience to be great. Wife follows their instagram and loved how the chef does her plating and we haven't had viet food for some time on this vacay so let's go! Got here to realize the name little viet kitchen is very little. It has a very homemade comfort vibes feeling. This establishment sits about 25-30. 1. fried spring rolls which was average. It wasn't great and wasn't bad. Kind of like ur typical authentic viet egg roll. 2. Beef rib coconut curry, this dish was a must try for me. I luv curry and never really had short rib beef as the meats for a curry. I mean I had beef and chicken curries before but this was a nice short rib beef. Flavor was good, not ur average coconut curry, this thing had a spice kick. The viet peppers in the curry were delish. Meat was very tender and went with the curry well. I eat this dish with a side steamed white rice. Yum! I'm a regular at pho 79 in Westminster California. So their pho was good but pho 79 though lol. Wish they had more general viet dishes. We brought our kids and they were seeking thit nuong or pork chops or com tam lol. I would highly recommend the beef rib curry and definitely come back to devour that thing again.

Yelp
This is not your standard hole in the wall Viet estabishment. Its more like French country cosy restaraunt inside. People seem to be complaining about the price but fpr the quality i think its totally worth it especially in this location. So enough about the decor and onto the food. Spring rolls are banging all though i am used to having lettuce leaves on the side to wrap around the rolls. The jumbo shrimp , prawn or whatever you call them are juicy and huge. I may have to google the difference now. The pho is so aesthetically pleasing it seems a shame to eat it, but hell thats what we are here for. The broth is great but i am surpised they dont have siracha on the table so you can adjust your heat . The bone marrow is amazing and the meat perfect. Even if its not totally authentic its still a hearty bowl of goodness. Inforunately no summer rolls or banh mi on the menu so if these are your staples then pho get it. The deconstructed cheese cake was a great finish. I have to say the staff here are amazing friendly and informative. Good job Brion. Apparently they do supper club dinners which if i lived in London would def be on my radar. If you dont have time to eat inside at lunch time there is a take away tent up the road. Marvellous idea ! All in all i would be a regular if i only lived closer.

Yelp
This place is an incredible find! They really stand out and are paving their own path instead of following in footsteps. It's not the cheapest Vietnamese food but for organic sustainable and unique dishes it is hard to beat. Try the short rib curry a real stand out and the Pho is solid too. Will definitely be back... Plus it's owned by a great couple an Englishman and his Vietnamese wife from a small village in the Mekong delta. The small village of her origins adds to the uniqueness and flavors in her dishes. And they have a cookbook to try them at home too!

Yelp
I haven't ever liked vietnamese food, apart from beef pho occasionally, but this place has changed my outlook on vietnamese cuisine forever. Thuy is the owner here and you pronounce her name 'Twee'. Starbucks has 19 different spellings of her name. So on Tuesdays - Fridays The Little Viet have a stall up on Chapel Market separate from their restaurant and they offer this amazing chicken vermicelli salad for £5. Just £5!!! Its a big portion, and the sauces inside are amazing - you must stir/mix it well in for full effect and best flavour. (don't forget the fried flaky onions - those are awesome) Thuy wakes up at 6 am to start making the noodles, and whilst she is manning the stall her brother and sister help with the restaurant. I always feel so happy after the meal, because its light but filling and it doesn't send you to sleep when you go back to work. Also the stall is cash only. :)

Yelp
Little Viet Kitchen has a rustic decor that makes for a memorable first impression (especially for a Vietnamese spot). Even the chopsticks looked as though they were just varnished tree branches! The food was delicious overall with generous portions to boot, the only downside is that it's a bit on the spendy side. Dry Noodle Bowl (with the toothsome belly pork) was definitely the highlight of the meal, with crispy shallots and fried spring rolls providing a nice contrast to the fresh mint and noodles. Beef Pho was an interesting balance between having a rich mouthfeel and being less aggressive on flavor. My own personal preference with pho is more of the umami bomb variety, but can acknowledge the care that went into this one.

Yelp
It was a Saturday night in London...we were looking for good food, casual atmosphere and we were in the mood for something different. My daughter found this restaurant online and what a find!. My daughter called to see if they could take our party very last minute. They were very accommodating and had table ready for us when we arrived 20 minutes later. Food was AMAZING! Some of the best flavors and dishes we have ever had. Staff was so nice, so helpful, so appreciative. The owner came to our table to thank us for coming in. She told us some of her history in Vietman and her love of cooking is so apparent. We were looking for good food. We found GREAT food in a fantastic place. Will definitely go back when we visit London next. My husband said if this restaurant was in our home town we would be there every week!

Yelp
Visited TLVK for a friend's birthday last week as a group of 5. Located in Chapel Market, it's a cozy spot on the corner. Decorated simply but definitely on the nicer end of the scale when it comes to Vietnamese restaurants! The menu isn't large but offers some Vietnamese classics such as Bun (noodle bowls) and Pho plus some Vietnamese curries, which are rarer to see. They all sounded delicious but I couldn't pass up the chance to try their Pho (13.0), which our waiter told me was made from an old family recipe. I'm pretty picky about my Pho and am used to being spoilt for choice in Australia. It was a pretty decent sized bowl that appeared before me with a dark broth, slippery white rice noodles and large chunks of tender fall-apart beef. There were also a few slice of rare beef (which is all I had been expecting) but no beef balls which the waiter mentioned but he could have been talking about the other noodle soup in retrospect. It was accompanied by plenty of fresh coriander, mint, lime and chilli sauce too. I have to say I was impressed. The broth was deep in flavour without being overpowering, the beef was delicious and there was a good amount of it and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Sure it's not as cheap as back home or even one of the cheaper ones here BUT it was GOOD. And I'm happy to pay a bit more for the quality, not to mention the nice atmosphere. Some of the others ordered the noodle bowls and gosh were they huge! Large pieces of their chosen meat, massive amounts of fresh herbs and crispy spring rolls atop the noodles and vegetables. I didn't try but the others were impressed too. I also loved that you can get a crispy egg on top of it. As it was a birthday, we had a cake and one of the others pre-arranged with the restaurant to bring it out as a surprise. They do have a cakeage fee but they turned a very plain salted caramel chocolate cake into a thing of beauty with pistachios and fresh raspberries! Overall we really enjoyed our dinner there and I'd definitely return. Sure it's on the pricier end (especially when you're used to Vietnamese being the go-to cheap eats option) but 160.0 for 5 including a couple of bottles of Prosecco and cake isn't too bad really!

Yelp
I had been looking forward to try this restaurant after lusting over the deliciously gorgeous photos on Instagram for quite awhile. To my surprise, not everything tasted as good as it looked with the exception of a few nibbles like, spring rolls, tiger prawns, and Vietnamese salad (the fish sauce is great). I ordered beef pho, which came out very bland - think water with noodles. The tofu curry was SO sweet that it started to hurt my throat and I couldn't finish it. Although my taste buds are different because I am from across the pond and I have adjusted to Southern Texas and Southern California Vietnamese cuisine - both restaurants and home made, it was not as authentic or flavorful as I imagined. Not sure if I'd come back again for expensive Vietnamese food that didn't impress me the first time.

Yelp
I'm in love with this tiny quaint corner spot at the end of Chapel Market for their playlist alone. Straight Motown throughout my entire dining experience, including my fave, Please Mr. Postman. Starving, I walked into this spot down the block from my local nail shop. Intimate space, but plenty of bar seating. They really care about the food here. And all of the staff seem to take pride in the restaurant. The chef seems to have a taste for experimentation and customer feedback before introducing a dish as a staple on the menu, which explains the loyal membership of the Sunday supper club that they offer. Probably the most thorough explanation of the off-menu specials I've ever received in my life. Took my waiter at least 5 minutes to tell me about 3 specials. After he was done with his speech, I opted for the special chicken in a yellow curry sauce, which came out EXACTLY as he described: creamy slightly sweet aromatic yellow curry, tender lightly spiced chicken with the large bone left in to hold the meat together, garnished with whole fresh herbs (including my fave, cilantro!) in the authentic Vietnamese style, served with a large bowl of fragrant jasmine rice. Take a look at those crunchy full stemmed herbs in the pic - they are serious! If you like your herbs chopped up, this is not the dish for you. Then the check came. Overpriced? Absolutely. Even for the quality sourced ingredients they pride themselves on. 16 quid for a Vietnamese chicken curry entree. I've had better for cheaper. But this place is trending and worth a go.

Yelp
Pho is not my favourite so I was disappointed we got there too late for the banh mi (which is my favourite!) but I still enjoyed my bun bo hue which is a lovely spicy noodle soup. My friend who tried the beef pho commented that it seemed to be very good quality. The restaurant itself, as others have said, is particularly pretty and a pleasant place to sit.

Daniel F.

Yelp
Actually found the Pho better than virtually every other place in London I've eaten (inc Kingsland Road) as they kept the spice and heat up. The banh mi and spring rolls are good too. But more fancy than usual place but totally authentic and will be coming back again and again! Though those chopsticks are slightly too difficult to use! Esp with such warm service too. Impressive.

Yelp
Can't recommend this place highly enough. Food is consistently full of flavour, staff are friendly and we always leaving feeling full. A real hidden gem. We go all the time - it's that good. The grilled sea bass is a stunner as well.

Gomar M.

Yelp
Some of the best pho I've had outside of Vietnam. The broth was exactly what one would expect of an authentic southern Vietnamese pho. I'm only giving them 3 stars for two reasons. 1. It was served with mint rather than basil and while the mint works well enough, pho must be served with basil otherwise it's not the same 2. £15.50 for a bowl of pho is outrageous. This is perhaps the most expensive Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to and while the pho was great, I'm not sure I'd pay that much for it in the future. Overall a good a joint but a bit too expensive for my taste.

Phu H.

Yelp
Amazing Vietnamese comfort food. The papaya salad is best I ever had. There are a lot of traditional ingredients. You can not go wrong with plenty of fish sauce.

Essi S.

Yelp
The Little Viet Kitchen is definitely one of my favourite restaurants (if not my favourite) in Angel / Islington. The food is absolutely amazing and the dishes look like art almost, that's how beautiful they are. I've eaten here numerous of times and everything I have eaten has been to die for! The Vietnamese Pomelo Salad is perfect on a hot summer day and the Beef rib with rice and egg is a must in the winter. Or try it with Oxtail! And don't forget to try the Vietnamese Scottish Egg - it's delish! And if this isn't enough, the service staff is super nice, polite and helpful and the decor of the restaurant is so cute and pretty. I love this place!

Ines C.

Yelp
I'm a bit torn about this place. I wanted to love it, but a few things went a bit wrong. Had a lovely cocktail, their version of the margarita and their special scotch egg (prawn) which I really enjoyed. As for the mains, whilst they were flavourful, both were incredibly spicy. I actually really like spicy food, but when I asked the waiter if my beef would be spicy she said there would be some heat but not too much. I managed to get through it without rice (bc the waiter told me the chef didn't like people ordering rice with this particular dish). Fine, you have an idea of how you want people to experience this dish, I get that, but then you NEED to warn customers that it's spicy as hell. My dining companion also complained that his dish was too spicy to finish (although he could just have been whining). All in all, it's clear that there is a lot of love and care that's gone into the place but I think they should be more careful how they present dish flavours when you order!

N K.

Yelp
Good lord, I've finally found decent Asian food in London! Chef Thuy knows what she's doing (wish I could've met her). High quality ingredients, attention to detail, and a subtle fusion of cuisines (southeast Asian and French?) make this restaurant easy to love. Chapel market is a bit rough, but once you step inside The Little Viet Kitchen, it'll charm your pants off and make you glad you're on the inside looking out. The Coconut curry was by far a table favorite, and the duck salad was a delightful starter as well. Of all the many disappointing Asian options in London, this gem is surely not one of them. Experience it for yourself.

J C.

Yelp
Worth a trip to London just to eat here. My sister and I spent a 5-day holiday in London and first thing on our to-do list is to eat at The Little Viet Kitchen. The food is just so amazing! Each dish has such depth of flavors that is hard to describe. It excites your palate and awakens your senses. Beautiful plating and great aromas from the freshness of herbs and spices. Nothing is overpowering and the tastes & textures are very well balanced. Meat dishes like the slow braised beef short ribs in lemongrass and coconut curry are so warm and wonderful - the meat is fall-apart tender and the curry!! So so good. You can feel the passion from Chef Thuy Diem Pham through her cooking. It's an inspiring dining experience my sister and I will savor for a long time. Joanne

Natalia C.

Yelp
Great ambience and yummy food. Best pho we had in London so far, we had to wait a bit for the food, but it was worth it.

Josie G.

Yelp
My friend introduced me to the little Viet Kitchen. For the longest time, I thought there's no good Vietnamese food in London. When I found LVK, boy! I knew I am soooo wrong. From a generally good tasting food perspective, everything here is excellent. I particularly love the Beef Ribs, Softshell Crab and Fried rice. I have actually never had anything I don't like here. From an "Authenticity" perspective, I went to Vietnam once and I don't necessarily think this is the same as the food as I had from Vietnam, BUT! it resembles the Vietnamese food I had in Hong Kong.... So I don't really know what that mean. The bottomline is, great food. I can't wait to go back and try their pancakes which is only available for lunch!

Emma F.

Yelp
Really good Vietnamese food. Cozy place and nice staff. We had spring rolls and chicken bowl

Zara L.

Yelp
We opted to keep it vaguely light with just one main each of the dry noodle bowl. A deep dish filled with rice noodles, salad, a meat or tofu of your choice and mmmmnummy spring rolls. The menu is small compared to your average East London Vietnamese restaurant, but I assume they aim to do fewer things better. Sadly this Sunday lunchtime visit, a few items were off the menu, so the list became even smaller. Still enough to pick from and daily specials too. Decor is intimate and twee, lots of faded distressed pale wood. The price surprised us- it's also a bit costier than we were expecting. Prices range from £13-16 for a main, in comparison to £8-12 for their Kingsland Road cousins. Overall I enjoyed my visit to Viet Kitchen. Good quality ingredients, very well executed and in a pretty setting.

Yelp
Great service and food. We order lemongrass curry with beef and eggs and it was delicious. The eggs and meat were cook to perfection. Egg rolls and soft shell crabs were delicious and pack with favor. For the cucumber mojito was good but it was nothing special. I had the best dessert ever at this place. We order homemade key lime cheesecake and it was light but pack with flavor. Usually dessert makes me feel sick but this dessert was made to perfection. All of the Chef's dessert is made by trial so she doesn't have a recipe and her dessert menu changes. The only reason why I give this place a four instead of five star was because the portion was ridiculously small for the price. For Vietnamese food this place was pricey. There was only 2 small egg rolls (7£) and 2 small soft shell crab (12.50£). The curry was amazing but there's not enough curry (18.50£). Cucumber mojito which would take me .50£ to make cost 4.50£. All and all I would come back but it would only be for special occasions since the food is a bit overprice.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
I had a quick coconut curry and lychee cocktail. Both were excellent. The curry was spicy, but not overwhelmingly so. I went with the beef, which is braised for hours. It literally fell off the bone when I took a bite with my chopsticks. I was able to snag a table around 7PM on a Friday, but I would recommend reserving a table. It's a small and busy place.

Lisa C.

Yelp
In terms of decor, this place gets an A++++. The inside is gorgeous, but on a sunny weekend day we chose to sit outside, which also had very artsy wooden tables and stools. It's located on the end of Chapel Market, at the end furthest away from the tube station, but out of the hubbub of the farmer's market, so we got to sit outside on the pavement in the sun. Some parts of Chapel Market can be a bit grungy but this quiet corner was beautiful. For the food, in hindsight I would have ordered just the mains, given that the portion sizes were huge and we didn't manage to finish all of our food, but I was so excited to eat here that we went for two appetizers and two mains between two people. The other thing is that the side salad accompanying each dish is the same, so while I like the light sauce and fresh herbs, it's still a bit redundant. It's also quite expensive when you get both starters and mains - we ended up paying over 30 pounds each for lunch, without any alcohol! For appetizers, we ordered one of the specials, a scotch egg made with prawn paste, and the fried soft shell crab. The scotch egg was really unique and I loved it. The soft shell crab was also lovely. For mains, we got the dry noodle bowl with pork belly and a beef short rib special that was served with rice. These alone were huge portions, so by this point we really only endeavored to finish the meat part of the dish. The food was all excellent - can't recommend this place highly enough!

Howard L.

Yelp
Beef broth did not taste authentic at all. Everything else was just ok. I would recommend people to try Sen Viet The water was good though!

Wendy L.

Yelp
The Little Viet Kitchen is probably the most expensive Vietnamese restaurant in London promoting itself as authentic, using no msg and only uses organic meats More attention has gone into the contemporary decor compared to your average Vietnamese. Decor is designed like a country kitchen, with its scuffed floorboards against white chairs and wild flowers everywhere. Even your chopsticks were very rustic like a tree branch itself. Service was informative and inviting. They explained the dishes very well and introduced us to the daily specials for the day. The small menu makes ordering easier but also makes choices limited. For example there is only one noodle soup broth, altering from bun bo hue and beef pho. Banh Xeo is also only lunch exclusive and the reason for this is the small kitchen facility We started with some cocktails The lemongrass & Ginger was very strong in coconut cream and the rum yet very weak in the lemongrass and ginger. It was very one noted for me and made it hard to finish. Roast peanut old fashioned was very mild on the peanut taste but it was definitely present. Quite bitter so it's right for those who like it strong. Sadly it wasn't for me Vietnamese fried spring rolls These were probably the best I've had in London. The skin was wonderfully crisp and light which conveyed they were freshly made. The filling was generous made with a great vast of textures varying from soft to crunchy as well as bringing in tonnes of flavour. Came with a good amount of Vietnamese herbs and nuoc nam. Another applaud to the authenticity of the nuoc nam, being made of lime juice rather than vinegar and a good balance of sugar, fish sauce. garlic and water. Beef wrapped in perilla leaf This was incredible and fresh with the meatball almost deconstructing itself as soon as you bite into it due to its high moisture content released from the juices of the beef. The herbs and greens in the meatball gave it an abundance of flavour and umami. The use of perilla leaf rather than the common betel leaf is that it's much more accepted by people like me who do not enjoy the bitterness of the betel. If anything it's more minty and refreshing especially when eaten with all the other herbs and fresh salad it was accompanied with Beef Pho I originally wanted the Bun Bo Hue but I only realised after that they only serve one type of noodle soup a day due to the small kitchen. Priced at £13.00 for a small bowl that did not live up to its price. The beef slices weren't rare enough, actually quite chewy although the pulled beef and bouncy meatballs were more tender and the latter very bouncy and flavoursome. Noodles were fine but it was the broth that was lacking that complexity that an authentic pho calls for which comes from the herbs such as cardamom, star anise and orange peel. It's much more sweeter in taste too although that could be a regional thing. The broth was very rich in beef and had a very clean aftertaste, but for me it was nothing special. Coconut and lemongrass curry with beef rib The best thing about it was the beef rib, marinated in an addictive sweet savoury sauce of the five spices, hitting my tastebuds like butterflies in my tongue. It was incredibly tender and juicy, falling of the bone, melting in your mouth type with its high fatty content marbleising the meat around it and spreading its juices throughout the whole rib given. Sadly the curry itself was quite mediocre. It was rich and thick in coconut milk but lacked depth and spices. Coconut was mostly what I tasted and didn't give that 'kick' as promised (very mild and more to the western palate) or the strong lemongrass flavour as mentioned. I did however much enjoyed the crumbled runny egg. That lovely contrast of bouncy, runny creamy yolk and light crumbly batter as described was done achieved perfectly. Noodles were of the round type and cooked to al dente and perfection too. Still, even if I'm just paying for the beef rib and the egg, it's still not worth £18.50. Dry noodle with jumbo prawn The most expensive part of the meal being the jumbo prawn was actually the most disappointing. It was slightly overcooked so the prawn itself became quite dense as a lot of the moisture evaporated. However it was saved by its high quality being very fresh and sweet in flavour. Other than the prawn everything else wad fie. The nuoc nam was perfect in flavour and a good amount of authentic Vietnamese herbs including Vietnamese basil and rice noodles to enjoy it all with. It was a good dish but I'm not paying £20.10 for it again for something that required almost no cooking. I think that this place charges too much even if you consider the organic meats used. The mains weren't exactly mind-blowing and for nearly £20 you're almost talking Michelin restaurant here. It's definitely above the average Vietnamese in London but I wouldn't say it's authentic and portions aren't very big either. They definitely do better with their starters.

Yelp
Reeeeeediculous food, atmosphere and staff. What a find. Everything has an extra effort behind it.

Yelp
I love Vietnamese cooking because it's light, fresh and packed full of flavour, so living in Islington, I really wanted this place to be good. This is better than I'd hoped - it's clever, modern cooking that takes the best of classic Vietnamese food and brings it up to date. There is so much effort taken in preparation, flavour and presentation. You can see and taste the quality of the ingredients. The beef pho is delicious, slowly braised for hours and one of the best tasting I've ever had. The caramelised pork banh mi is bursting with flavour and overflowing with salad in a crunchy bread roll. The restaurant is light, modern and informal - just like the food. The staff are lovely too. I really can't fault it. 5 stars it is.

Yelp
AMAZING!!! The food, the family, the cookbook...My niece found this place on our last night in London. We are SO HAPPY she did. We live in Houston and have a very good Vietnamese restaurant community. But this was incredible. The Pho is definitely the best I've ever had. Every dish that came out was delicious. And it was also beautiful. Not only was the food something not to be missed but the staff was of equal match. Service and atmosphere met the food levels. When we finished the chef and owner came out to our table to talk for a moment. All in all, you have to try this. We will be back.

Yelp
Amazing Bahn Mi! So glad I found this place. A perfect sandwich, delicious tasty pork, generous patè, rich mayonnaise and nicely spicy with all the trimmings! I have literally tried Bahn mi in many different countries around the world and this is up there with the best! I'll be back!

Yelp
Excellent food and service, and loved the spring rolls! Fabulous. I will be returning on my next trip to London.

Yelp
When you say to a customer that your food will be ready by a certain time do not lie. 1 star for the management. Food? Can't say since I just had a starter.

Yelp
I came here with high hopes but alas, the search for delicious pho in london continues. They put an abnormally large amount of fresh herbs in the pho. I'm all for shredded thai basil in my pho, but this was like....ALOT. It looked pretty but the ginormous leaves and stems that they stuck into my bowl did not complement the dish at all. The noodles were thicker than I am used to, and the flavor of the beef broth was lackluster at best.

Yelp
I'm going to start off by saying The Little Viet Kitchen has delicious food. That's a given. I had the curry, which is so hot my body was aching and I could barely taste the food anymore, but I do know it was delicious. The reason i'm giving this restaurant 3 star is because of the service. We'd booked a table for a birthday party. From the outset, the tone of the emails was blunt, rude and unaccommodating. It was only when we mentioned we would find somewhere else to hold the party that they weren't as strict and inflexible. When we got to the restaurant, they'd split the party over two tables, which wasn't ideal, and then took a very long time to bring the food out. They seemed to get the orders mixed up, they told everyone we could order starters, and as we were about to do so, told us actually your mains are being cooked so don't bother with the starters.... well that lost them a lot of money! Additionally, The staff were just very slow. It wasn't just the food that took forever, it was bringing a water jug, or an extra fork (ya know, so we could eat?), and then we had to wait 30 minutes for the birthday cupcakes to be brought out, and it really wasn't like they were that busy. On top of that, the prices are quite extortionate. Ridiculously so in fact. It was nice food, but not nice enough for the price that was paid. Combined with the terrible service, I won't be back.

Yelp
Terrible service. Don't ruin your night coming here. Kitchen closes at 830 even though restaurant closes at 10.

Yelp
Had coconut &lemongrass curry with beef ribs plus a dry noodle bowl with tofu. Best viet meal in a very long time. Worth crossing town for.

Yelp
I'm so glad we were able to get a table on a Saturday night without having a reservation. They were fully booked, but were able to work us in since we got there right when they opened. By the time we got our entrees, every table was filled. Everything we ate was phenomenal. We started with their beef carpaccio special. It was super flavorful and the had just the right amount of spice. I had the Bun Bo Hue. The broth was rich and it had lots of tender beef chunks. My friend had the Crepes which he really enjoyed. This a great place for people with gluten sensitivity too since most of the menu contained no wheat. I highly recommend going there. Just make sure you have a reservation.

Yelp
I am a very fussy little Viet when it comes to Vietnamese food. Minor things that I would normally forgive with other cuisines, I will mark down when it comes to imperfect Vietnamese food. This is mostly because my mother is a super cook and growing with her cooking, I always felt like it was such a waste to pay for inferior food. Not so with The Little Viet Kitchen, this place is very good and probably the only Vietnamese restaurant I would recommend in London without caveats. I had the prawn pops and beef pho. The prawn pops was a cacophony of prawn and lemongrass, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The pho broth was deep and flavourful. I can tell they used a good amount of bones, not like the insipid watered down 'broth' in many Vietnamese restaurants in London. And the presentations of each dish was beautiful. The prices are a little higher than the regular East London Viet places but you can see where your money has gone.

Yelp
My family was recently visiting London from the US and on a Saturday night we were in search of a good place to eat. I found this restaurant on Yelp and based on the reviews we decided to try it out. We were more than pleasantly surprised when the restaurant was able to accommodate our large party at the last minute. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside, and the decor is perfect. The service was wonderful, and it was clear everyone working at the restaurant really wanted to be there. The food was phenomenal. Everyone ate something different and every single dish was incredible. The flavors, the presentations, the modern twist on Vietnamese classics, everything about the meal was wonderful. I purchased chef Thuy's cookbook. She was an incredibly sweet lady and came to our table herself with a personalized message in the book for me, told us her story about going to the UK from Vietnam, and it was so clear that she loves what she does and has a passion for food. Service, amazing. Food, incredible. I wish I could eat at this restaurant every week!!

Yelp
Great little place . Nice quiet ambience. Excellent fresh food. Friendly staff . Dishes can be individual or shared. Great place to meet up with some friends.

Yelp
All our dishes were either lukewarm or cold so we were rather disappointed after reading all the amazing reviews. Couldn't read the menu as it was too dark. Friendly staff got our order wrong. Quite unprofessional place really - they need to buck their ideas up! One dish was superb - a kind of beef stew. Yummy. Sort it out chaps! I've heard that a bunch of good reviews makes the place so busy that the kitchen falls over under the strain. Could be the case here???

Yelp
I followed the Instagram account for this restaurant for over a year so that I could make sure I'd eat there if I made it to London. This summer I went and was one of the only restaurants we made a reservation for. I was so excited to finally go, but whether it was then or Open Table, our reservation was cancelled three times, but they still took us. The food did not disappoint. We even had the pho, which was 2x the price of a bowl in SF, but it was darn good. Our favorite was without question the crab salad, pho and prawns. The duck curry was ok and the sea bass was good, but not a must have. I was also giddy to be able to get a cookbook from the restaurant vs. Amazon, and to have it signed. I just wish I could have met the chef since I had been following her for so long, but I understand she had service to mind. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone going, but say to be thoughtful about what you order because you could have a lot of sweet flavors in one meal.

Yelp
STUNNING meal! Traditional yet creative at the same time. The curry is velvet and the flavour of another world. By far... the best pork belly I've ever experienced. Thuy (chef/owner) is humble yet confident in her selections. She changes the menu every three months. Will come back again and again and again!!!

Yelp
One of the best Asian restaurants I've ever been. Menu is short, but wont disappoint. The best pho I've ever tasted with fresh vegs and perfect meat.

Yelp
Cannot say enough good stuff about this gem of a place! I was lucky enough to have a 7 course taster menu here last night and am already planning on when to go back! An amuse bouche of seared tuna in a betel nut leaf, crispy prawn pops with a divine chilli and mango creamy dipping sauce, soft and sumptuous summer rolls, the delicate perfection of sweet and spicy scallops, crispy spring rolls, my personal favourite of spiced tempura-esque king prawns, delightfully delicious pho and a fab dessert to top it all off. Thuy's knowledge, passion and attention to detail shines through in every morsel you devour. Before you realise it your plate is empty and you're left longing for more! Amazing fresh food with fantastic flavours and deliciously dangerous cocktails (think lychee Martini, coconut margaritas and honey and basil daiquiris) to wash it all down. The restaurant is beautifully decked out and had such a lovely buzz. My only issue with the whole evening is that i now have to trek all the way from south-west London in order to eat there again!

Yelp
Such a beautiful space. Service is friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and authentic yet modern (in a good way). The only drawback is it is a bit pricy and the portions can be on the small side for Vietnamese food. I'm excited to try Sunday Supper (if I can get a seat!).
