The 18 Best Places for Afternoon Tea in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"The Living Room at Hotel Bel-Air serves afternoon tea service every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 3 p.m. Priced at $350 for two, the menu from culinary director Joe Garcia and pastry chef Christophe Rull hits all the classic notes without feeling staid. Highlights from the selection of sweets and savories include scones with Devonshire cream and mixed berry jam; Jidori chicken salad tea sandwich with golden raisins and crisp celery on toasted walnut bread; and salted caramel cream puffs." - Cathy Chaplin

The Hotel Bel-Air Has a New Chef, Lounge, and Pastry Shop | Eater LA

"Adjacent to the hotel’s reception area, the Living Room now offers an elevated lounge experience with a $140 high tea service, Garcia’s truffle grilled cheese sandwich, an Ora King smoked salmon rillette, and caviar service; playful additions include a French onion dip made with caramelized Vidalia onions, crisp onions and chives, crème fraîche, and pickled pearl onions (a dip that originated in Los Angeles). The cocktail list touts a martini labeled the “coldest martini in town,” and Champalimaud Design upgraded the space with pastel and neutral sofas, lush plants, and stencil artwork. The Living Room is open Wednesday through Sunday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., with afternoon tea at 3 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday." - Mona Holmes

Yelp
This is one of the top best five hotels I've ever stayed at. From the Rolls Royce house car service to the top notch hospitality service to the quiet elegant rooms all were just amazing. Would definitely stay here again. I loved the heated bathroom floor. Coffee is 5 stars here.

Yelp
The server and the venue were lovely. We ordered the tuna tartare, the mezze plate and the Thai chicken salad. Each dish was fine, but nothing stood out. It was standard hotel fare. We were there to celebrate my grand daughter starting her 3rd year at college. So the celebration vibe was there. I just wished the food had been exceptional.

Yelp
The Bel Air Hotel is an absolute gem, nestled away in the serene surroundings of Bel Air. It's the perfect quiet getaway, offering a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The hotel is an ideal spot to unwind, whether you're spending time at the spa, lounging by the pool, or relaxing on your room's private patio. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, providing a comfortable retreat. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, ensuring that every need was met. The spa experience was equally relaxing, leaving me rejuvenated. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! Such a relaxing staycation!

Yelp
Had lunch there today! Mediocre sandwich and fries. Waiter was pretty pathetic! Almost empty. After 20 minutes, needed to flag down the manager for water and the check. The valets were great however.

Tony A.

Yelp
The Restaurant serves the best bread! Specifically the garlic croissant (so buttery). The lobster Campanelle was magnificent. We didn't see hot chocolate on the menu but the waiter happily obliged to bring us some. Beautiful surroundings and excellent friendly staff. Our waiter gave us a through description of the grounds. The entire place is exquisite.

Yelp
This hotel, this bar and restaurant was once the epicenter of class and glamour. Reduced now to schlock, the lowest common denominator. I've been coming to this hotel for 50 years. I've seen it all. I will never come back again. Was once one of the most special places in the city. What a loss.

Yelp
Great place to take a date or your spouse to hear music at the bar... There's always piano music at night ... But call first.

Yelp
Extraordinary service. They jumped into action when my husband, who has Alzheimer's, got lost walking from the hotel. Special thanks to all the staff and the GM, Christophe. In addition we had a delicious Christmas Eve dinner & a wonderful suite!! We look forward to returning!

Yelp
This hotel is amazing. The rooms are breathtaking and the property is as well. The service is amazing, love the restaurant. It's cozy and fun. They have live music. The spa is absolutely spectacular. All their aestheticians have been working there for a very long time. My massage was great..

Yelp
When my close friend wanted to take me out for a late birthday celebration I told her I want to do High Tea at the Bel Air hotel! I love High Tea and this one did not disappoint! From the friendly service to the tea it was all meant to be!! The tier of sandwiches and dessert were so elegantly done and the taste was delicious. I couldn't eat another bite and went home stuffed with my pretty little Bel Air box. Valet parking with validation is $20

Yelp
Food: C, The purple potato salad and the Bean entree lacked Flavor and Creativity. Service: B, waitress greeted us and was polite and courteous. Cleanliness: A, Dining area and outside patio were clean, bathroom was clean and stocked. Ambiance: B, The patio is too casual for fine dining .

Yelp
We will be trying all the high end afternoon tea services available that offer gluten free sandwiches and pastries in LA. I will be reviewing them in the next several months. Excellent service at the afternoon tea. They made some special gluten free treats which were delicious and beautiful. Thanks to the Chef. The outdoor dining area is very pleasant. Teas were delicious. The only downside is that the tea is quite pricey at $135 pp and the kids left hungry. It's typical in an afternoon tea service to be able to ask for extra sandwiches; however this was not possible at the Bel Air. The waiter was very nice to ask the kitchen if it was possible. Also usually two sandwiches are provided of each type, but only one is given at the Bel Air afternoon tea. It would have also been nice to have gluten free scones made for the gf/nut free crowd. I have to say that every item on the tea menu was absolutely exquisite. Tiny, perfectly constructed, delicious, beautiful. The way that the ingredients and garnishes were placed show artistry and a sense of humor. Another curious thing I noticed is how the wedding party took over the outside grounds of the hotel. The hotel is on the smaller side. During the tea, the photographers infringed on the space in the dining room and yelled loudly at people to get out of the background. They yelled posing instructions to the wedding party. This was inappropriate and disruptive and the servers/manager should have made the photographers leave. Despite these glitches, it was a wonderful tea and we had a great afternoon. I'll have to see what the Peninsula gf tea service looks like once I can get a reservation.

Yelp
Beautiful place to stay especially during the holidays (the decor at swan lake is so cute!) I've been coming here for a number of years as it was close to where I lived. My company also used to host their annual holiday parties at Wolfgang puck's restaurant which was always spectacular. The food is delicious, the service impeccable, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. I also love how private and secluded it is as I prefer to stay away from the crowds. There are also guards near the gate to keep those who aren't patrons or guests from coming in. I like the extra layer of security. Anyhow, If you want to enjoy a world class experience at a beautiful and very private resort and don't want to be seen, Stay here. It was a home away from home for me for quite some time...Such a great place to get away from the craziness of Los Angeles. If you like being around the nouveau riche, go to the BH hotel. Not hating on the BH hotel, their soufflés are amazing... it's just a completely different vibe. I, personally, prefer hotel bel air. :)

Yelp
Excellent! We ate dinner last night in the Restaurant- it's really outdoors but with the awnings and wisteria vines above the awnings, you feel like you are indoors. Heaters provided of course but the highlight for me was our server, Teddy. Very nice gentleman that was so very kind and helpful. His description of the menu items just made my mouth water. And all of his suggestions were incredible. We had the Lobster Tostadas, Lamb Chops and the bread variety was amazing. Teddy, thanks for taking such good care of us! Job well done. :)

Yelp
Go here to hear an incredible pianist Ken Charlson (hope I spelled his name correctly) for sure he's there on Monday and Tuesday!! Absolutely stunning incredible pianist. JW

Yelp
I went here with such high expectations. Maybe I should've lowered them because I expected so much from Hotel Bel Air. First thing first the valet were already disappointing off the bat. When you're paying for valet, and even more so at an upscale place like Hotel Bel Air, I expected them to at least open the door. They didn't open the door for me nor my guest. We were there for a Spa Appointment. He then told us the best way to get to the spa was to basically walk down probably I don't know maybe 40 feet to get to the back of Hotel Bel-air to enter the spa from the back. And then when I get there, I had a pedicure scheduled and I was expecting it to be in the garden since it's called a "Garden pedicure" but in actuality it was basically just a small normal salon room. And then they asked me did I want something to drink and again I'm expecting a more luxurious experience. I expected they would bring maybe a champagne flute glass with whatever drink you prefer. But they brought me in room temperature water in a Dixie cup And it was nothing special blasé pedicure although my nail person was very sweet and funny and helpful and I have no complaints about her. She did a great job. The swans were pretty. But the water looked dirty. And it's just not as beautiful as I thought it was going to be. The plants are overgrown, and it just looks kind of more like a jungle to be honest. Unfortunately needless to say I won't be back.

Yelp
We did not stay, only had dinner. However, the hotel grounds and surrounding residential neighborhood is so serene and beautiful. It completely transports you to another place, it does not feel or sound like the hustle and bustle of LA. The staff and service is top notch. We definitely want to check in the next time we are celebrating.

Yelp
Had such an amazing lunch here! We tried almost every vegetarian dish at the restaurant and were blown away by the food and service!

Yelp
This is a review for their Lounge and hospitality. We have made a point to come here on Fridays and Saturday nights to listen to the live music in the lounge. It is tasteful, not too loud, and a good mix of tunes. We had friends visit and often take them to listen. Grab a drink and listen to the jazz trio (usually piano, upright bass, and saxophone), you will love it!

Yelp
Stayed a weekend there with my 3 Pomeranians. Dined in their restaurant each night escorted by my furry luv bugs. The dinners were wonderful as was how welcomed all the staff made me feel. They are very dog friendly here. Also, enjoyed a massage which again excellent.

Yelp
Came here for brunch, and service was amazing. From the valet, to the hostess Mariana in the front. Very professional and accommodating. Our waiter Miche also provided excellent service. The restaurant was very kid friendly and the staff knew how to deal with my son well. My 5 year son was with me and he truly enjoyed it. My son had the pancakes for brunch, and I had the delicious Halibut tacos. The cocktails were also amazing and hit the spot just right! Be ready because for some this place might not be cheap but trust me when i say it's worth it :) also Valet is $20. We took a walk around the beautiful outdoor areas of hotel and my son enjoyed the greenery, the bridge and little ponds with the swan. Very delightful and peaceful. Will definitely be coming back and planning a stay here soon!

Yelp
Hotel Bel Air is a classic hotel with a lot of history dating back since the 1940s. Currently, this hotel is among the Dorchester collection of properties, as is the Beverly Hills Hotel which offer impeccable service. It's been a while since my last visit here. Well over 12 years ago, this was my second home. Have been lucky to stay many times in the Stone Canyon suite; which is very similar to a small house with it own private pool, patio and with all the perks of a five star hotel at your command. There are many specialty suites, and most notably is the presidential suite with a sizable private pool, where the famed Marilyn Monroe frequent rendezvous with another notable figure. The best feature about these suites, is Privacy. You can access your suite like a small house directly without walking through any lobby of people and you can maintain anonymity, is just priceless. Despite multiple ownerships and extensive renovations, it's nice to see the surrounding magical lush garden setting remained with an abundant of trees, mini waterfalls, running brook, several bridges and the swan lake...all so romantic. You are surrounded by nature, the sound waterfalls and nature is so beautiful. This place has a special place in my heart, as I've been proposed twice in this magnificent setting. I was seated at the swan lake white bench when my then bf got on his knees with an engagement ring, was unforgettable. This event happened again years later with another bf...well it's said that the third time is a charm, so I welcome my next Prince Charming. The magical setting here is so invigorating, that 'love is in the air at the Hotel Bel Air,' is one virus preferable over COVID. Hotel Bel Air is a classy and remarkably beautiful hotel and grounds, definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, nice rooms and great service. Feels so secluded, with gorgeous grounds, not far from Beverly Hills.

Clayton L.

Yelp
Ate there 3 times each time there was a dirty water glass. Do not eat at the restaurant over priced unsanitary food. The spoon they gave me for my soup was also dirty

Yelp
Truly one of my favorite hotels on earth. My husband and I had a night away here and checked into such a cozy suite room on the far side of the hotel, where I've never been. Every single room at this hotel is up to par. My favorite feature is a heated floors in the bathrooms! We felt so tucked away and alone it could not have been more perfect. We both used the spa amenities and had a lovely meal at Wolfgang puck. Hotel was very busy and buzzing on Saturday evening whcih was lovely. This is truly one of my favorite places ever and the ultimate escape

Yelp
Great ambiance, friendly and knowledgeable staff. While the triple chocolate dessert was absolutely amazing, the portion size of the striped bass was tiny!
google avatar

Yelp
Hidden in the Bel Air canyons is this out-of-this-world hide away resort! Beautiful and secluded settings! I came here for a women's professional event and was very impressed. Old buildings and rooms but very clean and elegantly decorated. Catering was exquisite and service was impeccable. Grounds and surrounding have beautiful plants and water features (see photos). Lobby and lady's room were beautiful, too. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was there could be better signs at the entrance. It wasn't clear whether its self parking or valet.

Yelp
My wife and I went to the hotel since they offered a highly acclaimed prenatal massage. My wife loved the massage and said it was one of the better massages she has had in her life. Further, she said the spa grounds were very relaxing and beautiful. While she was indulging, I enjoyed some drinks in the Wolfgang Puck outdoor bistro (across from the restaurant) and explored the hotel. The drinks were fantastic and thoughtful. If you have been to any Wolfgang Puck restaurant, they will look similar to some of his signature drinks. The hotel itself is laid out modularity, meaning there are a variety of individual, disconnected buildings with specific purposes: lobby, meeting rooms, bar, restaurant, bistro, etc. The grounds separating the buildings are wonderfully landscaped with a variety of flora and fauna. In the ponds, you can find huge swans, ducks, and a variety of other critters, making the property feel very alive and luscious. All considered, we had a wonderful time and would love to stay at the hotel in the property.

Yelp
Beautiful place to stay, tucked away in the Bel Air hills. Spa, Pool, restaurant, beautiful room and wonderful staff. Enjoy!

Yelp
Met friends staying in this fantastic Hotel located far from the busy city traffic and we end up having dinner at their restaurant and I must say the food is delicious and Francesca our server gave us excellent service.

Yelp
The Hotel Bel-Air is the most beautiful hotel in Los Angeles. It is located on a little street in Bel Air. All of the rooms are a little different. You can get a basic room which is stunning or a suite. There are secluded areas if you want peace and quiet. There is a guard gate so people who do not belong there do not get in. All parking is valet. Now, this hotel is very expensive, so we don't go there a lot, but it is worth it. The service is perfect. They have a restaurant that is first class and the best bar in town. You will love this place for a romantic get away or for an event. My daughter was married there and it was perfect. Have the most wonderful time.

Yelp
If only they stayed open a little bit later on the weekends instead of closing at 11:30 and having everybody exit by 12 especially the bar... It seems like on the weekend you would expect such a beautiful location to stay open at least till 2 AM so that people could leave Beverly Hills restaurant locations for a nightcap... Anyway I've eaten many times at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant here and the food is not five stars and never has been but the location is 10 stores and the staff at the front where the valet park is superlative Highly recommended I only wish that a little bit more detail was spent on getting a Michelin star chef in that restaurant who is passionate detailed and driven... Not to mention cutting edge... You would think that a place of such notoriety would have access to the best and I am in the best produce on earth!
google avatar

Courtney R.

Yelp
The food and staff were good . The guests are rude and racist . I'm black . These people were waiting at the valet barely moved . The two stars off are for the awful guests . It thankfully didn't ruin my bday . The guests in general aren't really friendly . I will still come but it's very expensive.

Yelp
I love Hotel Bel Air - everything about it is magical. I had the most beautiful wedding here many years ago. The restaurant is always fabulous, I love the bar and music.
google avatar

Nijole T.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of the Beverly Hills Hotel and in a way I love the Hotel Bel Air even more. The grounds are gorgeous, we all loved walking and exploring the area. Every attention to detail makes the price well worth the splurge, the service is really exceptional. I am obsessed with how gorgeous their rooms and bathrooms are, the restaurant and bar, no exception, everything is first class, you will no doubt be very well taken care of here. The only thing I like more at the BHH is the location, you are close to everything. This hotel is for a quiet getaway, very much tucked away, no food or shopping around, once you are here, you stay and dine here since there is nothing around the hotel at all. Ideal spot for a celebration or very special occasion.
google avatar

Pat C.

Yelp
The review is regarding the hotel's kitchen only. I attended a wedding held here recently and had the pleasure of experiencing it's offerings. The carpaccio salad = sublime, light, a complicated mix of herbaceous and savory flavors balanced perfectly. Black mushroom / truffle cream soup = the highlight of the course's offering. wonderful truffle notes coming through, just beautiful, umami goodness all around. Black bass main plate = good, balance of mild flavors and buttery undertones of the pureed carbs underneath the protein. Albeit bit underwhelming. So all in all a great experience, hats off to the chef(s). Missing a star due to the fact that we're talking approx $200-$300 per person and that nothing really blew my socks off. Wonderful property as well, but I guess that's a given considering it's prestige.
google avatar

Kristin Q.

Yelp
I had breakfast here today with a good friend and the service by Eric was incredible. He was charming, fun and made the experience so much more enjoyable. Someone give this man a raise! As far as the food, the avocado toast was very good. It was light and seasoned perfectly. I will return!

Yelp
I have been visiting Los Angeles for years, but hadn't been in like 8 years until last weekend. I realized that if you visit LA and don't go to Hotel Bel Air you are missing out on something. It's a great place to walk around and it gives you an excuse to park a luxury car in Bel Air. Um..all the cars in the lot are really high end and extremely expensive...and ours fit in okay. It's a mid-sized hotel and the best thing to do is have a meal at Wolfgang Puck. This was on my Yelp bucket list and I am happy I checked it off this weekend. There aren't many other experiences to have in the Los Angeles region. Then after we visited The Getty museum for a perfect day. I would do this excursion again like once a year!
google avatar

Marie G.

Yelp
I have enjoyed their bar space and eats many a time (teas, piano and Puck's the tortilla soup) but this was my first time staying on property. I like to think of it was the quieter more mature older sister of the flashier Beverly Hills hotel. Some people want to be seen more than others in LA. Not all 5 star properties are created equal and I will say from a service angle this property is a stands out when compared to three recent other trips at 5 star properties that I was this last month... Our room had a fireplace and it just made the evening together just a little bit better... I can't wait to dip in their pool when it's warmer...and the bar does really make the best hot toddy's. Trust me.
google avatar

Shane H.

Yelp
This is a great property - more secluded than the Beverly Hills Hotel but that's also the point. You stay at the BHH when you want to be seen - you stay at the Bel Air when you want seclusion and luxury without crowds or tourists. My stylist brought 4-5 racks of clothes to this property for my cousin and myself to try on and the staff were pros dealing with this - which was wonderful. They're great with dogs too - absolutely loved my Klee Kai.

Ange M.

Yelp
Beautiful setting, but regarding the restaurant, now that it is no longer Wolfgang Puck, the food and service are both unacceptable.
google avatar

Melineh H.

Yelp
I love how beautifully hotel Bel-Air was decorated for the holidays. The bar was crowded yet organized and we were able to get drinks in a timely manner. We ended up sitting outside by the fireplace so we can drink wine and smoke cigarettes. Most importantly I wanted to say a big thank you to an employee I met named Nicholas. While it was not guaranteed that we would have any service in that area, he was kind enough to bring me a bottle of water when I asked for a glass of water to take medication. He also checked on us to make sure that our fire had enough wood. You can tell he really values the superior service of hotel Bel-Air and ensures each guest is comfortable and happy. Hotel Bel-Air is lucky to have him on their team.

Yelp
WORST EXPERIENCE AT A HOTEL EVER! My fiancé and I toured Hotel Bel Air yesterday to view the grounds for our upcoming wedding. Our wedding planner has been in contact with the event coordinator for Hotel Bel Air about our vision and the date we had in mind for our nuptials. We were referred to this hotel by a good friend who actually is one of the chefs at Hotel Bel Air, along with my mother - who's been frequenting the hotel since the 80's for several business meetings, weddings, and personal leisure. Our wedding coordinator arrived a few mins before us and has been in CONSTANT communication with Hotel Bel Air's coordinator. My fiancé and I are a same sex couple and our wedding coordinator has been communicating via email that the BRIDES are excited, they'll be arriving very shortly, etc. Once we arrived, we were greeted by Hotel Bel Air's coordinator and she proceeds to ask "oh so should we wait for the groom?" MIND YOU OUR WEDDING PLANNER HAS BEEN EMAILING THIS WOMAN SAYING "brides" and that we are a same sex couple. Our wedding planner reminded her "these are the brides right here, this is the couple" and the coordinator proceeds to say "oh! Okay". No apology. No compassion. Nothing. But being the forgiving, kind hearted people that we are we let it go but noted that that's red flag #1. We start our tour and start looking at the different options for wedding ceremonies - Swan Lake, one of the ballrooms and an outdoor space as well for receptions that were near the hotel suites. My mother - who's very familiar with the hotel - asked if we can tour more of the grounds to get a good feel for the hotel as a whole. She explained that we'll be renting a certain amount of rooms and suites for our family and bridal party, and the coordinator proceeds to say "sure you do". MIND YOU AS WELL - we are African American and my mother knows that we should be able to have access to see certain amenities of the hotel. THEN the coordinator says "oh you can come back for a self tour". WHY WOULD WE COME BACK FOR A SELF TOUR WHEN WE ARE HERE NOW AND SHOULD BE ESCORTED BY HER TO VIEW THE HOTEL GROUNDS! Just complete lack of interest and BIAS! Then the coordinator kept unnecessarily repeatedly stating dollar amounts for certain amenities like we couldn't afford it. Both my fiancé and I's family comes from wealth - and even if we didn't - WE WOULD NOT BE SERIOUSLY INQUIRING ABOUT A VENUE THAT WE CANNOT AFFORD OR HAVE NO REAL INTEREST IN! Just absolutely distasteful and disrespectful! And it's sad because all the other staff we encountered there were super sweet and kind! That's why we were perplexed by how the event coordinators attitude was completely different. Very disappointed in our experience and hope no one else has to deal with that type of bias behavior.

Yelp
We booked Hotel Bel-air for a staycation and it was a really great weekend! We booked the Canyon Suite with its own Jacuzzi, big patio and fireplace. Pros: -Check in was a breeze and our room was beautiful. They had complimentary fruit and water for us in the room with a nice hand written note and the staff showed us how everything worked. -I liked how everything was controlled on the phone, from the temperature to room service to getting your car pulled up, everything is from one portal. -The patio was beautiful and clean and the jacuzzi was kept at a great temperature. -The bed and pillows were comfy -The room service was prompt and the food was good -The grounds are gorgeous!! Everything from the swan lake to the foliage was all beautifully cared for, it was a pleasure to walk around the grounds. Critique: (I'm not going to minus stars for this, since every hotel is run differently, but this is just my own opinion when I compare this to other hotels in the same caliber; post ranch inn, rancho valencia etc) -I feel like if you are paying around 1k or more a room per night, the parking shouldn't also be $45 a night, which seems kind of steep. My hubby and I stay at the best hotels in the world and when you're paying that kind of a price point, parking is usually complimentary. -The prices in the mini bar are kind of ridiculous, I mean...$16 for gummy bears? A lot of high end hotels include the cost of the mini bar items in the price of the room if the room price is over 1k a night. Its a nice touch that guests will appreciate when they are staying at such a high end hotel. Tips: -Stop by their restaurant for afternoon tea, its so delicious! -Their bar serves at Trappists beer! Its brewed by Trappist monks and is worth a taste :)

Yelp
Please forward to manager We were there for lunch outside today a large group for a birthday and it was the worst experience We could have expected. It took a hour for the food. People received orders 20 minutes apart and waitstaff would disappear or ignore us for so long, we literally had to yell to get someone's attention. Did not appear to be a manager or any order. Really really bad

Yelp
Been coming to this amazing place since my college days. Never get tired of it. The amazing ambiance is breathtaking. An oasis in the middle of a busy city. Keep up the good work.

Yelp
I took my family to this hotel to spend Valentines weekend. This was our second visit to the hotel in 1 year. The service was absolutely perfect. We were upgraded to a room with a suite and fireplace. The rooms are spacious and each have a private patio area. Everytime we called in a request, the staff was at our front door in what seemed to be minutes. We asked for extra towels, we asked for the fireplace to be lighted on, we asked for the sofa to be turned into a bed. It was incredible the efficiency of the service response. The staff was also extremely friendly and caring. Of all the hotels I've stayed at, this hotel provided the best service and friendliness. I will be a regular here for years to come. The food at Wolfgang Pucks was also amazing. Even with the Covid-19 limitations on restaurant capacity, they served the food in the rooms in a way that was much more relaxing than taking our two kids into a restaurant.
