The St. Mary’s Strip honky‑tonk that also books indie, conjunto, and everything between. Voted Best Country Bar by San Antonio Current in 2025, it’s pure SA nightlife—neon, two‑step floor, and a sprawling patio.

The Lonesome Rose is easily one of my favorite bars in Texas. Fabulous atmosphere, people, music, and drinks. Always a good time.

Google
Great bar, great live music, fast friendly bar tenders. Authentic honky-tonk so wear your boots. Loved the old original neon lighting and decor. We had a great experience. This place fills up so bring your dance partner and have fun.

We are from Rhode Island and we wanted to check out a local bar. We were told to try the Lonesome Rose, and it didn’t disappoint. The doorman was super friendly and the bartender was great. He made a tasty margarita. I love this atmosphere, and wish that we didn’t live so far away.

We popped in because this was right down the street from our AirBnB. This was such a fun dive!! Love the decor and ambiance! Live music and cheap drinks! The bartenders were nice and quick service too!

Google
They were gracious enough to let us use the patio for our Women In Construction week launch party. The ladies even came up with a perfect drink for us "the working woman". They food was great the drinks were great and the people were fantastic! Can't wait to have more fun at the Lonesome Rose.

Great patio, nice atmosphere. Mac&cheese didn't taste good. Also fries weren't fresh.

Yelp
First time here, the building is very old and original. The parking was challenging and even more so with the biker event going on. There were a LOT of people and not much room to move around or sit. The music was good, a bit loud for us oldies and hard to have any conversation but I get it, we're at a bar. The bar service was organized and quick, moving people through in a timely manner considering how many customers were there. The margarita I got was basic and so so. Outside in the back there was a food truck offering brisket and wings, we didn't buy any food. Overall not too much to complain about. Everyone was friendly. We only spent about an hour or so there just because there were so many people, we moved on to somewhere less crowded.

Yelp
We absolutely love this little honky tonk. It's our favorite date night spot. We love experiencing live music here and the place is so diverse and welcoming. We never feel out of place or uncomfortable. The drinks are always so consistently tasty!

Yelp
Definitely coming back here! Who knew that a little place on the strip would have suck good country music and great drinks. The old bar feel was awesome, the decore made me feel I stepped into a bar from the 70s. The staff was helpful and quick when taking our orders. I look forward to going back!

Yelp
Super cool spot to catch a beer and hear some live music. Definitely worth looking into who is playing they have some good bands come through from time to time. Also have a good karaoke on Wednesday and the staff behind the bar is the best in the business

Yelp
The name sounded suspiciously like a strip club to us, but it isn't. Let's sum it up: It's a live music dive bar with a patio and food trucks, regional craft and domestic beer, and a full bar with some creative cocktails. The main room has a stage and retro cafe seating, and our booth seat actually rocked forward dangerously every time my friend plopped down next to me. They may or may not have air conditioning, but there are a couple of window units in the wall behind the stage, and several box fans pointed downward from the ceiling. So it was a little stuffy in September. And the place was packed, which we aren't used to seeing in the Time of Covid, especially since maybe only three other people were masked. So I was a little nervous, tbh. But everyone was obviously having a great time. They have a back patio with a food truck, but the live music is inside. We don't often come to San Antonio anymore, but we made an exception to see these particular bands, and noticed that the entire street had clubs that were equally as packed. The party is back on in San Antonio, y'all, for better or for worse. May the odds be ever in your favor. Parking is available in their very small lot or along the street, shared with the rest of the neighborhood.

Yelp
The lonesome was a vibe, at first I was like umm do I really want to pay $10 for this mid looking bar, but I was wrong. It was a whole in a wall vibe, good drink specials. Beer and a shot combo was great! I love that they allow different small businesses pop up within there kitchen. The fries were delish!! 10/10 would go back, I don't like country music and the guest singer was great! Large outside sitting area.

Yelp
Loved it all! Be back soon Bartender weee very nice. Heard a great band. Will definitely recommend.

Yelp
No matter where I start my night of live music I wind up at the Lonesome Rose. It was the first bar I returned to when we started to open back up. The drinks are strong and the music is good. The company has been great. Somehow I run into old friends and have made new ones out on the picnic tables. The food truck is a definite plus. It has an all-around great vibe.

Yelp
Nice hole in the wall, loves the ambiance and live music, food was great although a little expensive it's worth it. Recommend their Mac and brisket, their wings were good too. Service was great. What weirded me out was that they allowed dogs inside, kinda inconsiderate for the health code that equates dogs to cockroaches (at least at a bar/restaurant) also one of the dogs put their paws against the bar top which is pretty gross, other than that I enjoyed my time.

Yelp
Great bar. While fairly new, it has an old vibe with its decor and music. I've been here a few time for shows and just after work drinks. The prices are reasonable and staff friendly. Of all the bars downtown and on St. Mary's, this is one of my top picks.

Yelp
I was in last week and i cannot believe the poor quality of service i received... the man with the mustache kind of short has a big attitude and seems like he doesnt want to be there or care about anything. I will go back for live music and karaoke but i hope service improves.

Yelp
Nothing wrong with a dive country bar. Very relaxed setting. They had karaoke going when i went which was a Wednesday. They have really interesting drink combos. If you dont know about combos. You gotta go try. I will need to go back when they have a band play. Kind of a medium size place so i wonder the volume if there is a band.

Yelp
Best place in San Antonio for a gathering of new friends & old! The bartenders sling drinks quickly & readily & with a smile. Truly a spot embodying the essence at the heart of San Antonio: welcoming Southern charm, friendly ambience/atmosphere, and a good local brew.

Yelp
Fun bar with live music but could use a bit more seating. We didn't try the food but the bartender was friendly.

Yelp
Just saw The Fleming Brothers who came on stage to play around 7 pm....they put out a great little show for a bit over an hour... there was a food truck In the back that served up some well-smoked brisket sandwiches with scrumptious cole slaw and hearty Mac n cheese for ten dollars. This place has a great vibe and San Antonio needs more like it that start the bands up early and keep 'em going all night long!

Yelp
#1. I never write reviews ESPECIALLY negative ones. I'm a nice happy people person. I love everyone-- it takes A LOT of to piss me off. That being said, the female bartender with dark hair and glasses was SO inappropriately disgusting and condescending, I wish to never return to this bar as long as she is working here. She was gaslighting me and my friends when we were the most sober in the bar, and also made us feel so stupid for trying to pay our tab with cash. I'm absolutely disgusted with the behavior she showed tonight. she tried to act like we were too drunk to order- here I am sober AF writing this review tell me I'm drunk and taking it personally. The disrespect and condecession makes me wonder why I even decided to come out tonight in the first place. If she's working here, do not come

Yelp
Great atmosphere and cheap drinks! Bartender was awesome and professional, went earlier in the week but would definitely go back when there is live music.

Yelp
In good company with Lighthouse and Bang Bang as one of the best dive bars in SA. Long live the Lonesome!

Yelp
Total dive with a hipster SAT feel. Wild music. I like the outdoor part of the place. I crashed the Class of '99 Tom Clark HS class reunion. Pathetic turnout.

Fran S.

Yelp
Great little gem and throwback in downtown SA!! Outside patio and inside, feels like a place my Daddy or Grandpa would hit when in town.

Yelp
My husband and I received horrible service. Bartender refused to remake a horrible drink. He was very polite but she just said, no. Terrible customer service.

Yelp
This is a nifty little honky tonk! The acoustics are great for live music and the Ranch Water is s tasty drink. I like the fire pit in the backyard.

Yelp
You'll never be lonesome at the Lonesome Rose! This place is a fun country and western honky tonk located right on the southern end of the North Saint Mary's Strip! This place has a lot of character- It's got Lone Star Beer signs everywhere, and an awesome juke box filled with great old country and western songs. We came for a concert- Santiago Jiminez Jr. was playing- the band was fantastic and the sound was clear. The service was fast and friendly- they serve lots of cheap beers, including some imports. We even had beer from Montana! Wild! They offer a wide variety of Texas craft beers as well. The bar used to be a metal bar, but they had an untimely end when the place burned up. These guys bulldozed the burned up part, and turned it into a big ol' patio area, complete with picnic tables and outdoor bonfires. Just be careful with those fires! The restrooms were clean, and had all kinds of retro old west kinda stuff throughout it, which makes this place's vibe even cooler. It's a great new addition to the Strip- it's really about the southernmost bar along the strip, but it's certainly worth the trip!

David S.

Yelp
Great place to see live music and all the classic decor! We saw Thurman Love and Batty Jr. Great show and all funds from the door were donated to a NPO.

Yelp
A welcome addition to the St. Mary's Strip, with quality choice in live music acts, reasonable drink prices, and a surprisingly large backyard area. Parking is limited (same as anywhere else on the strip), but available if you don't mind walking a bit. Excited to see who else they bring to town!

Yelp
Walked up and the fella working the van invited us in and gave us the best basket of fries you've ever had. Great environment. Good folks.

Danell W.

Yelp
Fun place, live music, strong drinks, neat outdoor area. Area sidewalks were under construction, walking was a challenge but Uber works.

Yelp
Excellent place with a vibe unlike any other on the strip! There's live country-western music most nights, in the vein of Nashville-style honky-tonks. They've got a good variety of beer/shot specials, and a classic jukebox, so people can't pay extra to skip your songs!
google avatar

M D.

Yelp
Authentic, open-minded spot for honky tonk and classic country with all the Texas vibes!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered a Moscow Mule. What I got tasted like straight ginger with a splash of vodka. I guess they use syrup instead of ginger beer. Anyway, it was undrinkable. I very politely let the bartender know that the ginger was very strong and asked for a jack and coke instead. She took the mule, threw it away, and charged me for the jack and coke. The drink and the price are not that big a deal, but the fact that they charged me for a horrible drink that I did not drink is unacceptable. Horrible customer service.

Yelp
The atmosphere was perfect for the country concert! The texases played and it was pretty legit. I always enjoy their shows.
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
Clean, friendly, great drinks, great prices! Feels like your in the country but just up the street from downtown. A must see kind of place.

Yelp
My new favorite bar. Has a local feel without getting boring. Great outdoor space when you want out of the crowd, a regular food truck, and frequent live music line-ups inside. I'm not a country music or honky-tonk guy, but I still enjoy it because the musicians are good. There's even some dancing. The bartenders are fast, the beer selection is good, and the specials fit the environment. Although the prices are still San Antonio average and the location is superb, expect a cash $5 cover on nights where the bands are playing (I think it goes to them anyway). Want to pick a crowd pleaser at 9 pm after a happy hour or dinner date that shouldn't end? pick this spot.

Yelp
Super cool new spot! The ambiance is a legit honky tonk vibe with a nice back patio /area. There is nothing else like it that close to town. Texas Craft beer and spirits are available which is a plus. I enjoyed the old school OG country videos during happy hour. Definitely a must visit!

Yelp
I grew up in SA and have been going to honkytonks my whole life....this is a unique spot. Not your typical dancehall or C&W club. It's that funky little hole-in-the-wall kind of place that just feels comfortable. The music is excellent...it's not what you hear on mainstream radio...far from it!!! There's a big mix of people there....again, not your typical C&W crowd. The only complaint I have is that people stand on the dance floor. It's a very small floor to begin with, so there's very little room to dance. And what's a honkytonk without dancing?!!

Maria D.

Yelp
Featured musicians ...great variety and talent. Audience-good age mix and respectable. Not enough stools or roundtops. Booth seating is unstable. Decent drink prices. Service--not at tables except to clear them so if you can get the attention of the bartenders you might want to order a couple at a time. They serve men first. Same drink, men get a glass and women a plastic water cup...same price. Not impressed with the bar staff's unfriendly reception but the music will make you forget that...until you want another drink.

Izzy M.

Yelp
Love this place! Great live music, beautiful patio, best French fries on the strip, and nicest owners and atmosphere.
