The last one star review was left by someone who came out on the busiest night this place has ever seen, they were overwhelmed, I’ve been coming here for years and the bartenders here are the fastest in town even on busy nights. I came here for the first time new in town and not knowing anyone, they welcomed me with open arms and I made so many life long friends here. It’s the best place to see a show, but even when there’s no show it’s the best place to come and have a drink, listen to great music and enjoy the funky atmosphere. The owner is a wonderful person who has done the most to keep live music alive and accessible to people on a budget. The staff are the salt of the earth and are the hardest working people in town. As long as you are polite, friendly and respectful (which is how you should behave in any bar you go to) you will have a wonderful time and have excellent service. I’ve never felt safer in any other bar. It’s a treasure and a second home to me and many others. This bar and the local bands who play here are deserving of your support. If you want classic weird Austin, this the place to go.

Great metal dive bar. 6th street was a bunch of, for lack of a better term, frat/sorority tourist. Brought my daughter to this dive and disappointed no band tonight but the dj has some great metal playing hard. Did not try the food truck but will be back here some time and will update when I do. The bartender is amazing tonight as well. Super friendly and welcoming. If you like a true dive with metal you will love this place

This place is great! The bartenders were very kind, the crowd was having a blast, and there’s plenty of room to sit and visit both inside and outdoors. Wailin’ Storms was playing that night, the lighting and sound was perfect (check out the band cause they are REAL awesome). It was clean, no fights took place, just things running smoothly to create such a great vibe.. As for parking, you can park along the road- there’s no meters or tow signs. Excellent experience. Thank you so very much The Lost Well crew for the teamwork to keep this great venue going for us to enjoy.

I strongly endorse this venue for those who enjoy exploring emerging local and touring heavy metal bands. The food and beverages are excellent and affordably priced. The staff, including bartenders and management, are warm and inviting. It's a fantastic location in East Austin.

To the goober bartender today and hope the owner sees this: Well, if you’re looking for something “lost,” it’s definitely good service at The Lost Well. This grungy dive bar delivers on the grit but fails spectacularly on basic decency. The bartender? Less welcoming, more “I’m too cool to care if you exist.” You’d have better luck finding water in a desert than a smile behind that bar. Sure, it’s a dive, and I’m all for the rough-around-the-edges charm, but this place somehow manages to miss even that mark. Instead of being the kind of laid-back, no-frills spot East Austin is known for, it just feels… lost. And not in the cool, edgy way you might hope for. If the goal is to leave customers parched and unimpressed, then congrats—they’ve hit rock bottom. But as for me? I won’t be digging my way back to The Lost Well anytime soon.

Really friendly bar staff, great metal music venue, played darts. Bought original art, they're was vinyl records, Shirts & other cool merch for sale. Oh! And the beer was cheap!!!

The food truck outside is always great but the venue itself it’s probably the last bastion of whatever remains of the metal scene in Austin. It’s small, nothing fancy but the drinks are well served and the atmosphere is unique. Marcello is the man. Love this place

Probably a good reason they shutting down. Probably fine for regulars, not a fist timer person that loves the scene. Specifically staff. Would be nice to have 1 drink within an hour of standing at the bar. I had zero. 😒

This place is a classic dive bar, definitely a hole in the wall but the managers make me want to come back every time! Every single time I've had an issue with a drink, or anything I've needed, Amber or Cayman have resolved the issue immediately. 10/10! Excellent service, tip the girls they run this place!

I LOVE THE LOST WELL!! An inclusive, old-school, dive bar for the music crowd. Punk, rock, metal, almost anything goes. Prices are super affordable. Service is bar none some of the best around. Bartenders treat everyone with kindness and respect. It's like hanging out with family you get to see once a year. So easy to pick up conversation with total strangers. Cold and refreshing drinks.

Congratulations - if you are brave enough to come here, welcome to one of the last holdouts of true old Austin, "weird" culture - an actual punk, metal, and biker bar. The Lovejoy's crowd migrated here. It is a holdout in a traditionally low-income area that is rapidly gentrifying. This place is not where you're going to find the beautiful, dazzling influencers and their constant vocal fry and valley girl accents. These are metalheads and punks, in a place that is a constant variety of grungy. Drinks are simple and what you can expect for a dive bar, with the best pricing in Austin. A food truck is perpetually parked outside, and when I first started coming, was a vegan Tex-Mex truck. It is now a truck that specializes in Birria Ramen, and various other Tex-Mex items (though is not vegan). It is excellent drunk food at 1:30 in the morning before close. To tell you how much of a true dive bar that this is, men piss in an ice-filled trough and you get screamed at during last call and at 2am, when it's time to leave. Don't let that deter you - staff know and are close with every single regular in their establishment, which lends a warmth that is hard to come by in Austin. There are stickers everywhere, and when bands are performing, it gets very, very loud. Regulars (because let's be honest - this is a bar that is packed by regulars), along with staff, justify the motto of The Lost Well as "The friendliest bar you've ever been to scared to walk into." It is one of the few bars in Austin where women routinely rave about feeling safe just because the regulars, while nice, will turn violent if madness happens to someone at this bar. It is truly one of the friendliest and nicest bars in town and being there feels like being embraced by old friends - provided that you keep an open mind.

This place is simply the best. A REAL rock scene still exists and it's here. Come for a metal show.

My favorite dive/venue and is truly the friendliest bar you were... apprehensive to go to. I've always felt safe here. Service is great and drinks are cheap. Cayman is a force to be reckoned with. She always remembers my order, just don't sass her at last call

The Lost Well is the best metal and punk bat in ATX! Other than a brief reprieve due to some ignoramus working there who didn't know I'm the biggest metal journalist in the central, Texas area, for me this club has been the metal go-to hideaway destination in ATx for over a decade! Good sound, chill environment, the staff are super laid back. After the fiasco with come and take it, this place puts me at ease. Been coming here before it was called the lost well. Saw my friend Mike DeLeon play two shows with MOD and interviewed Billy Milano. Also saw Childbite and Today is the Day, the last show for a year and a half due to this scam called COVID. Any day of the week you'll find local and international legends jamming with bands like Ungrieved and Black Horse of Famine. Killer club,if you're new in town hit up this place for good community.

Judge a book by its cover and you'll most definitely miss out on this hidden gem. There is a reason "The Friendliest Bar You've Been To & Scared to Walk Into" is painted on the exterior of the building. Cold drinks, diverse crowd and awesome staff. This is a GREAT dive bar located on the East side of town with what looks like a location for concert/live music, a relaxing patio and awesome drinks. This may become my local hangout

The Lost Well is the best place in town for Metal and Hardcore shows! It has everything! from cheap drinks to a great stage and slightly seedy atmosphere. The Lost Well is really about the shows. If youre a local metal, or hardcore band chances are you've played Lost Well more than once. Shout to local greats like FUCK WORK, THUNDERKEIF and especially LADYKILLER for always putting on great shows. If you don't wanna hang out with bro's or hipsters and feel like listening to some great jams this is the place for you. If you wanna hang out with the fore mentioned bros and hipsters.. well hey more power to you ... but stay away.

Just arrived in Austin and we wanted to find a good local music venue. This place was one that came up in my search and it was just what we wanted to find. The music was raw and intense. The space has the dive bar feel with an above average bar. Prices were very reasonable for drinks, so you will have some cash to buy merch from the bands. It does get loud, so bring some ear protection. This is not the place to go if you like to wear vibrant colored clothes. Black is the main color and the music is hard, so don't complain. This is a biker bar and the music fits the mood perfectly. There was a pool table, but they were using it for merch, so you probably gotta catch it on a slower night if you want to shoot some stick. They do accept credit cards at the bar if you want to open a tab and do some drinking. The beers on tap were tasty, so it could be a good place to throw back a few.

A 45 year old man whose best years had clearly left him behind called me a "Fucking Yuppie", 10/10 would recommend.

I really enjoy every time I go to Lost Well, despite not feeling like I'm the typical crowd they cater too. There are always a gaggle of motorcycles lined up outside, which is honestly perfect, because parking here is minimal. The bar itself is pretty divey. They have a lot of cheap drinks and empty barstools on off nights. On weekends, this place gets packed. The outside was wall to wall or fence to fence rather last time I checked it out. I'd get here early to get a good spot!

To start, I wish I could give less than one star. We came here for the Witches Market. (If you don't want new people at your bar, don't host events!) Anyways, we get there, order drinks. No problem. The male bartender was perfectly adequate. Drinks were simple and well prepared. No complaints there. That's where the "good" starts. My friends got there and were harassed by a patron in front of the staff. The bartenders seemed to be perfectly fine with the drunk woman shouting "YOU FUCKING CUNT! CUNT, CUNT, CUNT!!!" over and over again. (I've worked in the service industry, that is NOT acceptable regardless of the establishment!) These antics continued until my friend was about to probably curb stomp the woman (she's Latina. Don't mess with a Latina woman!) and we went out to smoke. We promptly left to a nearby bar and had a great night. We will NEVER go back and I urge everyone to avidly avoid this place. Horrific patrons, staff that doesn't give a shit, and a very sketchy "feel". I just say no and again, urge others to do the same.

I would say that this little bar has improved from what it previously was for sure! I definitely think it may be the truest, divey-est, grungiest bar in Austin. It's pretty dirty, but dirty in the good sense. If you are looking for something heavy as far as music goes then this is definitely the place for that too. The bar has a decent selection of beers and the bartenders seem cool. It is a cool spot with some definite character. I would come here again. I have been here twice already - once to see a friend's band play and another time with friends.

I like metal and punk and don't mind some edge in the staff, but one of the bartenders is a little nazi concerning whether he'll serve you. Ask him for anything besides a beer or a shot and he'll get pissed, take little jabs at you, but if you respond in kind he can't take it and will kick u out.

This is a great throw back to the classic neighborhood bar, with the added bonus of being an awesome venue for more refined genres of rock and roll that lean toward heavy metal. The ambiance is very old school Austin, with a lot of unique things displayed on the walls. It's as if the bar itself has traveled the country and each item tells a tale from the journey. The drink selection is definitely on par, even without a drink menu. The staff appear as eclectic and interesting as the walls. All in all it would definitely be worthy of stoping in for a lone star and just checking out. Bars like this one will soon be a thing of the past in Austin's old east side.

This bar is a classic. It's got friendly characters, cheap drinks, great pours, and a thriving metal/hardcore scene. There's nothing hip, pretentious, or clean about it, and there's nothing else quite like it in Austin. It's everything the bar across the street is not, and I love it for that. It's places like these I assume the "keep Austin weird" logo is referring to.

I was a long-time patron of Lovejoys -- it was August of 1994 that I first walked through its doors, and I was there in August of 2012 when it finally closed -- been there, did that, bought the t-shirts, got the tattoo. 18 years. A lot of familiar faces, a lot of friends over the years. And with the demise of Lovejoys, a community was dispersed. Oh sure, we had the Gypsy Lounge, and Casino el Camino, and St. Roch's, but none of them were Lovejoys, not really. A couple of the same familiar faces to be sure, but we were like shell-shocked refugees going through the motions. So, it was with some excitement and nostalgia that two veteran bartenders of Lovejoys were rumored to be taking over the Frontier Bar. It would NOT be Lovejoys version 2.0 (or 3.0, or 4.0), but c'mon, this was the moment we'd been waiting for for just over a year. A couple of the same bartenders taking over, joining another Lovejoys vet who had worked at Frontier. Okay, so getting to the point, The Lost Well is NOT Lovejoys. However, there are the same familiar tables scored from Lovejoys. There are also 3 Lovejoys bartenders serving you the same Lovejoys drinks. They also have the same types of bands performing on stage 3 nights of the week, and the same well-attended Moto GP on Sundays. And a heckuva lot of familiar faces I've not seen since Lovejoys closed. But, this is NOT Lovejoys. That's NOT their intent, I get it. Lovejoys did not have an ice-filled piss trough, and luckily for us they've kept that over from the Frontier Bar days. They've kept the nice expensive sound system. There's a smoking patio outside if that's your thing. The jukebox ain't exactly the quality that was Lovejoys, but again, this ain't Lovejoys, dig? The folks at The Lost Well didn't have a lot of time to fix up things, so for now there's a temporary vinyl sign outside, and a few things will be changed as time allows -- new paint, a new sign, a cooler that will augment the typical diver beer taps with "better" beer selections for folks that got used to such things at Lovejoys, maybe an expansion of the taps in time (a boy can dream).... Seriously though, this is NOT Lovejoys, and they're not recreating it on the far east side. I have no clue if they're going to be doing house beer (doesn't look like there's the space for it), but there are a plethora of craft beer bars for that close by anyway. Lovejoys was special -- it was a time and a place, and a real sense of loss when Lovejoys closed -- Lovejoys fostered a community, and there is a palpable excitement that The Lost Well may be picking up where Lovejoys left off. So, if you like dive bars that remind you of Lovejoys or Frontier Bar, you'll like The Lost Well, which happens to have Lovejoys veterans behind the bar, and Lovejoys chairs and tables scattered throughout the place. Biggest plus is that it's not downtown, so parking is sweet and you don't have the frat or hipster elements, and they still have the extended happy hour from 4-9pm.

The Lost Well opened today, I've been here for 20 minutes and it already feels like home. Can't wait to see what happens!

Where else will you find a divey biker bar with some badass patrons and a vegan food truck in the damn parking lot? This place isn't for the nose-upperers, or people that take high offense to things. The Lost Well is a hang out joint, where anyone is welcome until they cause problems. Or so it seems. The bartender (Deb, I believe?) is a riot and keeps the bar visitors entertained while she can. And if she can't, you'll know. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor, a pool table, strong pours, cheap pours, and apparently live bands too - the one thing I've missed on each visit! Oh - and if you get hungry, order some grub from BBQ Revolution and bring it back into TLW. Try something new!

Great, great place for cold beers and fun times!!! A true Austin dive bar!!! One pool table and a great set up for live music. Everyone is really low-key & cool.

Home...comfort and cold beer...The Lost Well is still in its infancy(so to speak) since they just recently opened are still putting their touch on it, but it is where I will go to relax, see friends and neighbors. We (I) needed this badly. Motorcycle friendly parking! Also great bands and weekends, full bar and Moto GP viewings when there is a race.

This place is wonderful. Ive been in town for a few weeks now and have been there a handful of times already. I hear that they have amazing metal and punk shows (pre-covid). Great prices on drinks, friendly staff, and the regulars are amazing story tellers of Austin history. Forget all the bad reviews and go check out one of the best "last of the drive bars" in Austin, Tx.

Pretty good night spot that hosts good underground shows. Decent drink prices that are better than most venues. Much love to this place, I will definitely be returning.

Mostly metal bands perform here....some are pretty good. Anyhow plenty of off street parking here. Drinks are good, price is good, staff is good. Outdoor patio gas plenty of room. Live Sound is good. Bathrooms are not too great.

Yay! The Lost Well is a reincarnation of Lovejoys minus the home brews. There. I said it. Jeff, the bartender was great and so was his playlist. They were showing the UT game on one screen and curling on the other. There's local craft beer on tap and beef jerky if you get hungry. Or you can order from Gourmands across the street. I love this place already.

Awesome dive bar with great music and people. Left my ID overnight (Obviously a GREAT time was had) and they some angel saved my traveling ass by turning it into the bar. THANK ya Lost Well!

Have you ever seen the movie Cocktail with that one jerk that's in to fake religious cults. That was a pretty terrible movie. Well most of his movies are really pretty bad. How in the world did that guy ever become an action hero is beyond me. That is one of those puzzles I will never understand. This place is nothing like the bar in that movie.

This place for a dive bar is OK but when it is the reincarnation of Love Joy's then its a bit disappointing. Really this place is the Frontier Bar(the bar that was in this location prior to The Lost Well) with a new sign outside. The music was fun and the beer was cold. The good news is the prices are cheaper than Love Joy's were but that's really the only semblance I see to the former gem of Dirty 6th. All of that taken into account this is still a pretty good neighborhood dive bar.

This bar is one of my new favorites. The people from LoveJoy's work this joint and it really makes a difference. I didn't much care for Frontier bar which was here in this location previously, but these guys really turned it around. Now, there are nice people, places to sit, cheaper drinks, and imported bands playing every weekend, PLUS lots of my LoveJoys friends are now hanging out there regularly. So in other words, it's a win. Bottom Line: - badass place to be - several good beers on tap - super nice people that you will love.

When I found out that the Lost Well was owned by the bartenders from Lovejoy's I was dumbfounded, this place is no comparison to the congenial bar that once was. I went here to meet up with some friends for this Witches Market event, just something new to check out. When we got there we went inside to meet up with our group, my roommate and I decided to get a drink. I walked up and smiled politely at the two ladies who were sitting at the bar, they seemed to be perturbed by the fact that I dared to order a drink at the BAR where they were sitting. I just thought to myself, "why sit at a bar if you don't want people near you?" Anyway I took note and ignored them, we ordered a beer and when my roommate asked if they had Live Oak Hef the bartender very aggressive and rudely pointed at the taps and said "This is all we have, what do you want??" At this point the whole vibe felt off and we just weren't feeling it so I decided that we'd pay for these drinks and head out, I did not want to spend anymore money at this bar and my anxiety was getting worked up. So I paid for two beers and tipped a dollar because frankly it's my prerogative and she was rude. Apparently one of the girls sitting at the bar decided it was her business to inquirer why I left a dollar tip after ordering two beers. She turned around and started to scream at the top of her lungs towards me, and I quote, "WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU LEAVE A ONE DOLLAR TIP? HAVE YOU WORKED IN THE BAR INDUSTRY BEFORE? WHY DID YOU ONLY LEAVE A ONE DOLLAR TIP?" I was stunned for a minute and could feel my face and body getting hot and start to tingle, I simply said, "Because she was rude and so are you." I shouldn't have said anything though, I don't care about her or what she thinks about me. She continued and all I could think was I'm going to get arrested, I'm leaving in the back of a cop car if I don't cross my arms and ignore her. So I said nothing, I crossed my arms smiled and let her continue, "YOU'RE A FUCKING CUNT! YOU DON'T BELONG HERE, WHY DON'T YOU LEAVE? NO ONE WANTS YOU HERE! YOU FUCKING CUNT! YOU'RE PROBABLY NOT EVEN FROM AUSTIN, YOU PROBABLY JUST MOVED HERE AND BOUGHT A CONDO ON THE EAST SIDE! FUCKING CUNT! CUNT! CUNT!" (Fun fact I'm actually from south Austin, born and raised baby!) At this point I eventually looked around to see if I can find anyone to help calm this obliviously heavily intoxicated person down. I looked at the bartender who was leaning against the bar with her arms crossed smirking.. People who looked like bar staff were walking by her repeating the word cunt as they walked by her, they were egging her on. Why? I couldn't understand, I did nothing wrong. I could care less about the crazy drunk with bright red hair yelling at me for attention because I can only assume her life is dull and this must be how she gets off. As long as she wasn't coming at me to physically do harm then I didn't feel the need to defend myself, but it was uncomfortable and sad. I just turned to the side and continued to talk to a friend, still ignoring her because what else could I do? We couldn't hear each other over her ranting so we stepped outside to smoke and that was the end of that. Maybe she worked at the bar and that's how they handle things, maybe it was because I was brown, or maybe she was in the middle of a raging yeast infection and the itch, smell, and burning was so unbearable that to relive the pain she had to lash out by yelling out the word cunt to strangers, I don't know. I'm sure it's a great place to hang and I'm sure they have great music to offer but the experience I had has turned me off for good, no one deserves to be treated like that. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to this bar. Marcello Murphy was quoted saying "It's going to be a friendly neighborhood bar," in an AC article, I'm sorry but when will it be a friendly bar?

First of all, who needs locks on the bathroom doors? We're all family here. In this weirdly quiet dive bar that NO ONE is in except for us. Not weird at all. Totally fine. Anyway, the drinks are strong and the bartender has seen some shit so he doesn't say much and doesn't judge your double. Couldn't recommend more. Also, why do the sinks smell like fruit loops? Please someone explain

Good atmosphere, friendly staff, good tunes... It's a nice bar to hang out, play pool, or listen to live bands... Every time I've been there it's been really clean and with a great atmosphere, totally recommend it...

Dropped in for a beer after a fun afternoon enjoying East Austin Studio Tours and we were surprised to see Corinne Rose Band warming up on stage so we stuck around to see their set. The band rocked, the sound was excellent and the tap beer (512 Pecan Porter, Peacemaker, Hans Pils and Founders Breakfast Stout were what we were drinking) was reasonably priced. There was a bonus baby shower going on to make the scene even more fun. We'll be back for sure.

If you like to drink at a bar, this is a good place. They have a cool stage and really friendly people on staff, the majority of whom are seasoned bartenders from really great bars that have since gone the way of the Steamboat. It's ever so slightly off the beaten path which makes it easy to find parking, and there are plenty of other places in the immediate area that serve libations and food if you like to wander. This little pocket of neighborhood is about to explode with other amazing businesses and I hope that The Lost Well stays where I can find it!!

I just walked in and had a woman (who appeared to be a patron) mug me for a tip for the one-man-band. I tried to explain that I haven't had a chance to decide how much I do or don't want to tip the band yet, and she proceeded to harass me based on her observation that I was wearing a "polo" shirt and I'm not throwing money into the bucket. I thought this was east Austin...the land of the free...apparently you can't escape judgment anywhere. Go sit on a tack mean lady in a weird dress. The bar seems pretty cool. Just leave your polos at home.

Terrific hole in the wall place. That is said with much love. I hang out at a similar place in Houston called The Big Easy, so I felt right at home. Decor is right on. Specials are great.
