Although my wife did not like the food I thought it was passable and decent food. We ordered 5 dishes including the appetizer (large) given four of us. It was good but a bit too sweet. We also ordered “fun” or the wide noodle dish which was good particularly with some hot sauce which we asked for. We also had the bean curd rolls with black shiitake mushrooms which I liked but my wife didn’t as she felt it was too saucy. Another dish was the eggplant bowl which we all liked. Finally we also had the minced bean curd with noodles which I really liked. Overall a mixed bag and while my partner would give this a 3, I felt it deserved a 4. Service was good but she was quite busy.

Google
This place has been such a staple in my life, such a go-to place, it never even occured to me to write a review - I'd rather just go eat there again! But seeing the ridiculously low current rating for Lucky Creation here (only 4.2) I wanted to do try and nudge it in the right direction - UP. Listen, I get it: The place isn't fancy. To non-Chinese customers who've never been there before, the service may seem gruff. But they have been dishing out an incredible, delicious variety of very affordable vegetarian Chinese food since the world was young. My experience there has always been more than good. Example: When I lived in SF I ate there several times a month. Then I moved out of state and didn't get back to LC for four or five years. When I went back the first time after that break, and was standing outside, one of the waitresses saw me, recognized me (!!!) and waved me inside - AND she asked me if I wanted my favorite dish, the Sweet & Sour Pork. AFTER YEARS she remembered all that. So, for me, as a white woman, I can say that those customers who are put off by the service...Give it time. These are actually some of the nicest restaurant owners I have ever known. And the food is ALWAYS AMAZING. Sweet & Sour Pork, Almond Chicken, the Gluten Puffs, etc. It's the only thing that makes me wish i still lived in SF.

Google
I love the atmosphere of mama-papa place. I love the people and the concept. But the food we got, we didn't really liked. The taro fish has a strange taste and the imitation pork was also not well seasoned with soggy texture. I'm sorry to say so, but the expectations from this place were higher. Hope other people like it and they have customers. This place looks legendary in San Francisco. Good luck with everything.

Google
I had high hopes for Lucky Creation Vegetarian Restaurant, but it didn't quite live up to expectations. The place had an old, rundown vibe and didn’t look very clean, which was off-putting. The food was too greasy and didn't taste great. To make matters worse, the service was practically non-existent; we felt ignored the whole time. Sadly, I can't see myself going back or recommending it to others.

Google
Definitely underrated. The Tofu Bean Cake and the spring rolls were great. No frills. Quick and simple.

Google
The restaurant was really nice, with great ambiance and excellent service. However, there was one thing that bothered me. The waitress suggested a more expensive dish without telling me beforehand. When I tried the cream corn noodle soup, I found that the broth didn't have much flavor and there was way too much corn, which made it overpowering. On the bright side, they served a big portion, but it was so much that I couldn't finish it. But if you're looking for something different from the usual lemon chicken, I highly recommend trying their vegetarian lemon chicken. It's really delicious!

My husband and I are vegetarians, and we loved this place! The owner was very kind and made recommendations. The portion sizes were huge so we had enough for a second meal. Great hole in the wall find!

Google
Great, simple food, all vegetarian. The hostess was really nice and welcoming. She answered a lot of our questions. We had Taro soup, ckaypot mushrooms rice, dumplings and a noodle dish. We also took sushi to go. The place was very busy fir takeouts - constant stream of people walking in for food to go. Dining area is very small but we had a good experience. Just 2 blocks from cable car museum.

Yelp
They do an amazing job at mimicking pork, poultry, & beef, flavors that I miss in my diet.

Yelp
I've eaten here a number of times now for the past 20 years. I've been holding off on giving a review because I really want to like this place. It's one of the older vegan Chinese restaurants around in SF Chinatown. It seems to ooze the spirit of Chinatown's ancestors way before plant-based was a thing. I give credit to the restaurant for their consistency with the food. Alas, that's the problem. Tons of gluten puffs used for all kinds of mock-meat dishes swimming in highly processed sauces. I echo some of the 1-3 star reviews here: Once I've had their Lucky Creation fried rice where the oil smelled slightly rancid, but luckily I didn't fall ill. Another time, my receipt didn't seem to add up (before they started taking credit cards). Inflation has hit the menu hard here, which makes the low quality of the food stand out. My lunch meal of mock sweet and sour pork ($16) and half a cup of white rice ($3). After taxes, fees, and tip: $27 Don't let my disappointment in the food keep you. I might even come back. After all there could be a gem that I've missed. And there are less and less establishments in SF into where you can step and be transported back in time. Surely that's worth something.

Yvonne Y.

Yelp
If we visit Chinatown, there are two must-visit spots: Golden Gate Bakery for their iconic egg tarts and Lucky Creation for the sweet gluten. The kind lady at the counter suggested the sweet rice rolls, and we decided to try them -- they are amazing! From now on, we'll be getting two rolls because they disappear so quickly that I never even get a chance to take a picture!

Hannah K.

Yelp
I could never stop myself from over-ordering because it's all so good, and all so affordable! Make the most of your visit by rounding up a solid group of friends and ordering a bunch of dim sum, lest you attempt to tackle much of the menu solo. It's all vegan, which means you can indulge without a second though. Take advantage of all the rarities that usually have meat, fish, eggs, or chicken hidden somewhere inside, such as the hot and sour soup, "pork" with vermicelli, and soybean sausage. I miss and crave this food whenever I'm away, since nothing else quite compares.

Christy T.

Yelp
We always get take-out vegetarian rolls: they are on the trays just at the cashier shelf. The lady would get whatever quantity you want. There are usually flavors: curry, original, and sour. They are quite tasty. Ambiance is extremely casual: a very small mom and pop shop. Also quite small as well. It's clean.

Pei Ting L.

Yelp
As a meat eater, I usually would not go for an all vegetarian restaurant as my first choice but I was taken aback by how yummy everything was. I had gone to Lucky Creation for a work lunch since it was recommended and I was surprised at how well I enjoyed everything. We arrived on a weekday at noon and it was luckily not too crowded. My favorites were the stuffed eggplants, potstickers and minced bean plate and mixed plate that is displayed up at the front. The potstickers were huge and definitely worth it. The eggplant dish was stuffed with fried taro, which I love. The mixed plate had a mix of different flavors of tofu skin and a a meat like item, ranging from curry and something similar to cha siu.

Rachel H.

Yelp
I always appreciate a fully vegan restaurant. This place has a lot of really interesting and unique mock meats (goose!) and lots of tofu options. I got the potstickers which were very tasty. Filled with cabbage and paired with a sweet and sour sauce. Also got some seaweed/tofu soup which I would've liked a little more dimension to, but would be good for those that prefer a simple broth. Portions are pretty big! Couldn't finish the soup as a single person. Good value for the cost. The servers and staff are lovely. 3% surcharge when using a card.

Yelp
Lucky Creation Vegetarian was one tea restaurant that reminded me of having my first vegetarian selection for takeout since childhood. Seeing those soy protein foods like faux bbq pork and sweet & sour gluten puffs were proof enough. So for lunch, I came all this way to savor a vegetarian dish during this year's Autumn Moon Festival. The space of this vegetarian tea restaurant had been small over the years, but there were still few people with half the amount of empty seats, which was perfect for me to fit right in. The food here, especially my Diced Mushrooms with five spice curry over rice, never gets old. Moon cakes, at the very bottom of the glass display, look good (should've asked if these have real egg yolks inside). If there's any tea restaurant where I can easily find, Lucky Creation Vegetarian will be my best place to go to. If I were given the path of a Buddhist for my new journey, I might, depending on how much thought I put in. For now, I will always eat more greens.

Goku U.

Yelp
One of the few all vegetarian shops in Chinatown, SF. They have a small dining section with about 8 tables. There is a single bathroom that you need to walk through the kitchen to get through. We ordered the dried bean cake with chili sauce, potstickers, and the black mushroom with bok choy pan fried noodles. Everything was tasty, not overly greasy or salty. The pan fried noodles was probably the best dish, but it could've used some more seasoning. Service was comparable to other Chinese restaurants in the area. The shop prefers cash and does offer a cash discount. Many individuals came in and ordered the gluten items to go. Might try some of those next time!

Kelvin Y.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese vegetarian restaurant in the US. Lucky Creations started in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown 37 years ago. Ambience is 1980's nostalgic. I became a fan in the late 1980's. I make it a point to enjoy their offerings whenever I'm visiting my old stomping grounds. Ask the proprietor what good the day you're visiting! Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Annie L.

Yelp
I was very excited to try an all vegetarian restaurant! I'm trying to eat less meat so this seemed perfect when I saw their menu. Ordering through Grubhub was easy. Pick up was friendly and fast. The food was a bit of a let down. It was soo oily and dunked in grease. Plus I found a small piece of black hair in my rice. The taste was good, veggies are healthy and no need to make it that greasy and gleaming!

Michael L.

Yelp
I was thinking that I should be eating more vegetables & less meat so I thought I'd have lunch here today as I have walked past this restaurant loads. I ordered the Braised bean cakes with assorted vegetables & a bowl of rice (extra charge for the rice). I also asked that the dish be prepared with less oil & salt. I figured that If I'm going to eat vegetarian then I might well be gung-ho about it. So this was my 1st visit and after trying this flavorful dish i will return. The prices are reasonable. The food is good because they used fresh ingredients.

FG L.

Yelp
This is the place to go when I want meatless Chinese dishes. There are too many to try and they do every dish well. I don't believe I have had anything that I did not like. A few, I cannot tell it is meatless. Their rolls are also very good as well. Highly recommend it in Chinatown and want vegetarian Chinese food .

Nikhil M.

Yelp
This fully vegan restaurant is a nice break from all of the meat-central restaurants in Chinatown. The prices are a little high compared to other places but the food is decent. The wontons felt like they could have had a little more filling and I wish the wheat gluten puff combination was heated before being served to us. Overall though the service was fast and the food was decent. Would definitely want to come back to try some of their other dishes

Wesley L.

Yelp
A friend and I took forever to decide on a place and saw the sign for a fully vegan Chinese restaurant. I've had something similar back home in SoCal so decided to give it a try! The place was pretty simple, not too much seating for a lot of people, but it fit the bill. The food was really yummy and as someone who likes meat, they have enough flavor where you don't miss it in addition to a variety of dishes with meat substitutes & sauces that taste like the real thing. The service was short and simple, although I had some complications translating what I was looking for (all on me). Prices were on the higher end but still decent for Chinatown and quality vegetarian food. Got a vegetarian sushi roll thing to-go which was really tasty as well (like peanuts, carrots and other things in season sushi rice and seaweed) It is a sit down restaurant and cash only, but you can also order takeout or order from their counter of vegetarian meat things. A nice small restaurant to take your vegetarian friend to for simple good food

Mamatha S.

Yelp
Today, we had lunch at this restaurant. We ordered and ate lucky fried rice, braised vegetables with curry sauce, black mushroom noodle soup. Everything tasted well but my husband had the soup. Later within the hour my husband had a bad and upset stomach. He never had a problem any time in his life before. So we think the mushroom soup was the reason... We went home cutting short our trip in San Francisco.. we feel sad this happened after eating at this restaurant

Swetha R.

Yelp
The food was amazing, we loved it! The staff was nice and welcoming . It's an all vegan restaurant, def recommend!

Edwin W.

Yelp
This is the horrible restaurant and food I have ever had in my life. The plate of rice looks like someone's leftover. It was a good restaurant 20 years ago but not anymore! Don't go and regret

Darina H.

Yelp
What a savory surprise of a place in Chinatown! Though low key and unpretentious- this little gem is a new favorite vegetarian spot for our family! We ordered the appetizer potstickers (perfectly filled with yummy veggies like cabbage and carrots) with sauce. For our mains we shared included the tofu eggplant clay pot and the bean curds wrapped around various mushrooms with bok choy!!! Wow! The flavors were perfect and the entire thing tasted fabulous! You cannot wait on this place- it's a must go! So fresh and delicious! I would give the taste a 5/5. Please be mindful- this spot is CASH ONLY! There is a bank ATM located on Stockton (a half block up) but otherwise please know this before arriving! Bathrooms here are tiny- you have to walk through the kitchen to get there but you can see the awesome chefs chopping and cooking! Which is half the fun! Thank you again

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Stumbled on top this vegetarian spot in sf Chinatown and was told it's one of the best vegetarians spots, so why not. Usually my mom eats this type of cuisines at Chinese temples and this was very similar, loved all the glutenous imitation meat items as well as the use of mushroom and veggies. I would say this is very traditional Chinese temple cuisine, iykyk. Honestly this was a fun place to try even if you're not vegetarian . I highly recommend the lemon imitation chicken and the mix veggie, both delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. I didn't get a chance to try their honeydew moon cake (sold out) such a shame, but will def come back for it next year.

Yelp
Came in with friends who were visiting from out of town. This location was initially chosen to accommodate dietary restrictions, but the food exceeded my expectations as somebody who typically eats meat with every meal. (Transportation & Wait Time) This is located in the middle of Chinatown, SF so it'll be exceedingly difficult to find street parking at any time. My recommendation would be to either go to a parking garage or to walk/take public transit if possible. This is definitely a hole in the wall restaurant, so seating is limited. We had to wait for around ten minutes to be seated. (Interior) Classic Chinese restaurant interior with decor to match. I believe there was table space for around four parties. You order at the entrance-adjacent cash register, find a table, and wait for the food to be brought to you. Food can be paid for with either cash or card, though the card does come with a 3% surcharge. (Taste) We ordered stir fried veggies, meatless chicken, curry and chow mein, and wonton soup. Each dish was flavorful and I liked how there wasn't a big departure from how their traditional (with meat) Cantonese counterparts typically taste. The gluten substitutes had a similar texture as the meat they were imitating, while bringing their own unique taste. I liked the curry and chow mein combo in particular and was pleased with the overall meal. I'd recommend this restaurant even if you typically eat meat with each meal! Whether it's to accommodate a vegetarian/vegan friend or if it's to expand your palette, you'll enjoy the food here.

Yelp
Best vegetarian place around the Bay Area. My vegetarian friend-coworker used to have lunch here weekly- at least. Since we didn't work in downtown SF anymore, we make a point to meet here on weekends. My husband is not a vegetarian fan, but he loves this place too. Service is decent, ambience: better than hole in the wall. But with the delicious food, who cares...

Casey C.

Yelp
Sau Ling Lam Kwan and her husband Lam Kwok Leung are the names behind this establishment, serving Chinatown, San Francisco since 1988. They are a devout Chinese-Buddhist couple from Hong Kong. This restaurant specializes in serving vegetarian Cantonese food. Seitan is from scratch here, then made into a variety of wheat gluten and other mock meats. Another specialty is their deep fried taro fish in the shape of a sea bass. This place has a hole in the wall feel, but carries an established history and character in the food. There are enough seats to go along with the foot traffic that come and go. The bathroom is passing the kitchen and it is very tiny. You'll find this place to be comfortable and casual. It is a humble establishment in the best way possible. My favorite menu item is the mixed vegetables and mushrooms in a clay pot. The black mushrooms in the clay pot tastes silky and the thick soup is savory with a striking umami flavor. It was my first time trying wheat gluten here. The wheat gluten puff combination dish comes in four different flavors. Another great option would be the meatless chicken in thick lemon sauce, though it can be overwhelmingly sweet. This spot is mostly vegetarian, but there are plenty of vegan options.

Pooja k.

Yelp
The food was honestly delicious. There is not much space to sit but you make do for the food. Will be going multiple times. The service is good too.

Millie K.

Yelp
This is the only place I know in SF that makes the wheat gluten dish like the ones in Hong Kong. I usually get their soft wheat glutens at the counter for to-go. There are three kinds, original, curry, and sweet/sour flavors. I get all three and then I would order the tofu skin rolls on the side. They are also popular on the gluten rice roll, with peanut, mushroom and carrot inside. It's perfect for a quick bite and it's delicious. The place is small and you should expect it to be more like a hole in a wall. But the taste as vegetarian place is definitely worth a try. I would love to keep them going as a local for as long as I live in SF.

Minnie C.

Yelp
Been eating here since I was a child, always love the multi-flavor gluten platter! It's a pretty small space, but it has a very home-y old school style.

Ivan V.

Yelp
Great genuinely friendly attentive service and wait staff. Three words best describe this food: FAB U LOUS. who needs garlic and onions in every dish? I come here twelve to fifteen times yearly because I can't get enough of it. If you tell the staff it's your birthday, you'll get a little treat: sweet sesame balls. Num num num. I can't wait til next month as my birthday rolls around again. If you practice your Mandarin, the wait staff will help you if you get stuck. EVERYONE NEEDS TO EAT MORE PLANT BASED FOODS TO SAVE THIS PLANET FROM SELF IMPLOSION ONE BITE AT A TIME. 祝大家新年快樂! Happy new year everyone!

Andy N.

Yelp
I feel so lucky to have found this place for some amazing vegan Chinese food in the heart of Chinatown. I never thought that one day I'd go plant-based and completely change my lifestyle. I'm glad I did and that there are placed like Lucky Creation to fill my cup when I feel like eating out. This unapologetically Cantonese veggie spot is amazing. Small but cozy, with owners and workers that really care for their customers. Come with a small party as seating is limited but take out is available. We started with their Fried Taro Rolls which were deep-fried tofu skin wrapped around mushy pieces of taro and served with a sweet dipping sauce. It was a combination I was a fan of and a great snack to start our meal. It also wasn't super heavy like tempura and retained the texture of a standard egg roll. For our mains, we ordered their Braised Veggies in Claypot and Sauted Black Mushrooms in Bean Curd Rolls (plus Bok Choy as a bonus!) My goodness was everything here full of umami flavor and color. The claypot dish was expectedly piping hot so pair it with a side of brown rice. The bean curds were our favorite for sure - loved the texture and amount of food that we got as well. While a little more on the saltier side, it was all phenomenal and something I want more now. They also sell gluten and soy meats at the front (referred to as their vegan dim sum) plus some Moon Cakes with different fillings. If I was a bigger fan of moon cakes, I would've spent a bit more to buy one or two. The selections looked great and there's so much variety here. Cash only which means they are able to offer lower prices. Come on through and support this local family owned establishment. PS: They take covid restrictions very seriously. There were a few European tourists that day who were turned away because they did not have a CDC-approved vaccine. Even if you can't dine in, support them by doing takeout and taking it to a nearby park to enjoy. It's so worth it.

Georgia C.

Yelp
Tasty dishes. Small friendly place. Good service. Whether you are fully vegetarian or just skipping meat, this restaurant offers a broad selection of delicious dishes and clay pot items. A great find in Chinatown. After you have tried it, you'll put it on your list for future dining or take away.

Mikayla O.

Yelp
Nice service and quick but the sweet and sour pork is too chewy and not good unfortunately :(

Jon H.

Yelp
After two decades still run by the same devout Buddhist family with compassion for the community. They keep food quality/portions high and prices reasonable unlike many restaurants in these inflationary times. Veggie pan fried noodles super yum and not overly greasy.

Paul C.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years every time we visit San Francisco. What turned out to be a lucky find years ago and changed into a place where we definitely need to go when in S.F. The pepa tofu with e-mein is a dish that puts this place down as one of the best dishes to eat, even if you're not vegetarian. The lemon chicken tastes like real lemon chicken and my 8 year-old couldn't taste the difference. Nothing fancy but service is quick. They only take cash, so be sure you have them on you before coming here.

June B.

Yelp
Had the fried and rice noodle veg and potstickers. Even the non vegetarian friends liked it. Tasty, large portions and good service. Bit pricy because its bay area but portions are huge.

Sandy L.

Yelp
Really good! Curry and Oyster sauce wheat gluten puffs, soft, little bit chewy, I loved the texture. So yummy! Walnut sweet soup dessert also delicious, not bitter, very smooth and right amount of sweetness.

Chapstiq G.

Yelp
I know times are rough, prices everywhere have increased-- but I don't like when dining feels very *transactional* (when centering what makes sense for them rather than the customer). Example: Trying to upsell you dumplings when you ask for BBQ buns (instead of simply saying they ran out of buns). I remember them being "cash only" -- I never carry cash but made sure to stop by the bank. After I was I was very clear my order needed to be under $20. She says my order comes to $21.16? (I learned now they take cards w/ a a 3% charge?) When I tell her I'll only get 2 dumplings --she recalculates again to ...$21.16. ** The kicker is that I had to repeatedly flag her attention about pricing while she packed my order. It was like she was making the math up as she went along --- & focused on me spending the full $20 even if what I requested costed lessI STILL DUNNO HOW MUCH EACH INDIVIDUAL ITEM COSTS!! She literally ignored me, wrote the math herself, acknowledged the mistake (it was only $13 ).She heavily plops my food on counter then mumbles about me to co-worker. *** I don't like feeling like a "problem customer" when I did what I could to plan at their convenience (bringing cash since that's how it once was), mindfully alerting her of how much cash I had, opting for dumplings when I really wanted BBQ buns only to get attitude for not taking the full order of dumplings. But somehow, I guess I'm the nuisance?? ...I dunno if I'll be returning

Jack R.

Yelp
The best vegetarian Chinese food around hands down. My grandma swears by this place and I've grown up coming here to buy dishes for my family for special and non special occasions. Great curry flavor, great sweet and sour sauce, and overall great vegetarian fare and I'm not even a vegetarian! Honestly, they make vegetarian food taste flavorful, so much so that I don't even care that it's not meat. Parking is super difficult here, but if you're a local or if you're lucky enough to find a parking spot definitely try this place out especially if you're a vegetarian who likes Asian food!

Kimmily C.

Yelp
Best vegetarian food! Been to other places, but not as good as this place. Love their fried taro roll, fried taro fish, and their sweet & sour glutton puffs.

Jay H.

Yelp
One of the pillars of San Francisco, Chinatown that has been around for more than 30 years, this place makes a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes out of gluten. As well as other savory, delicious vegetables. One of their most commonly ordered dishes is the sweet and sour gluten where you can buy it by the pound. If you're lucky, they make a killer walnut dessert soup; well, balanced, and not too sweet. This sells out super quick. The only downside is they are a cash only establishment. The lemon chicken is pretty delicious too! This is definitely a must try when passing through San Francisco.

Victoria L.

Yelp
Updated 7/31/2020 Open during COVID. Highly suggest you call ahead and order either the day before or same day. If you call while you're on your way you can have them total your order so that the amount of time you're inside will be minimal. They placed a table just inside the store so that you can't get past the deli table. Food is delicious as always, all items were packed carefully and well. Please note this place is CASH ONLY. Will totally order again when I'm in the area!!! Best Chinese vegetarian food ever! Do yourself a favor if you live far away, order several dishes to try and stock up, everything reheated very well!!! Support local!!!

Cindy P.

Yelp
We are shocked this restaurant has 4 stars on Yelp. Granted, we were hungry and clueless about what to order, but all the food we ordered was either below average or downright bad. We do not recommend ordering any of the following: fake chicken rice dish, regular rice, Chinese broccoli, noodle dishes with mushrooms and bok choy, or the spring rolls (extremely oily). The sushi rolls were ok. I told the main server/manager that the Chinese broccoli was not good and she did not offer to remove it from the bill. Very disappointing meal and a waste of over $100. Very authentic and interesting atmosphere though.

Karen Y.

Yelp
This is the only place I get wheat gluten in San Francisco. It definitely is a trek to make it all the way to Chinatown but it's totally worth it. There's so many variations of seitan and tofu products that it's absolutely amazing. I usually get the curry flavored wheat gluten puff, sweet and sour wheat gluten puff, and sweet and sour seitan. Sometimes if I feel like it, I'll get the fried tofu skin rolls as a snack. I have only gotten take out here so not sure about the other products they have on their menu.

Babita M.

Yelp
The food at this place is very good. But the service is terrible. I was there on March 19, 2023. First of all they only accept cash payment. The bill is presented with items listed in Chinese characters. The hostess added a tip in the amount and we did not know what that was. On questioning her she got furious and started shoving us out the door. I would do take out but never go eat in there.

Jennifer F.

Yelp
So many options to choose from where do I start?! Well I ordered a curried mock chicken dish (sans rice). It was so good. It is a quaint place off the main drag of china town. Stop on in if you are vegan or vegetarian. Important note-CASH ONLY!! Food came out quick and hot. Accommodations for spice level as well. Service was as quick as the food was delicious. It's a whole in the wall type of place that stayed very busy at lunch time. Enjoy with no reservations for vegan options.

Sally D.

Yelp
I've been coming Lucky Creation on and off since the early 1990's. My mom introduced me to the bean curd rolls and they have become my comfort food. The corn soup is also very comforting as are the noodles. The portion is generous; I separated lunch into two portions. Unfortunately I forgot to take the 'before' picture with the full serving. Not shown is the dude of white rice. And it's filling: I run half marathons, have a good (omnivore) appetite and I don't start to gnaw my arm at 3pm. I only wish they would bring back the turnip cakes: a delightful little snack on my walk back to the office.

A W.

Yelp
I went here on Chinese New Year Parade day. A very busy day.. but got a number when I arrived. Waited about 30 minutes. The ladies were mostly friendly.. or at least fairly polite. My friend suggested this place. It wasn't terrible, but I feel there is much opportunity to add some extra flavors. Even some typical condiments found in Chinese restaurants would provide a chance to add a little pizzazz. We had the veggies deluxe (#15) the tofu (appetizer?) (did have some red pepper in a sauce which helped) and a rice dish (#55) with black mushrooms and tofu on white rice. Some sort of fresh greens might help? No, I'm not a Chinese chef so perhaps I'm trying to add unwelcome excitement. Just seemed a bit too bland. I thought some ginger would punch things up a bit. Ah, well. We didn't feel that "stuffed after dinner" feeling, but that we'd eaten a lot of healthy veggies. It's a small place .. old and not seeming clean.. which is rather traditional I guess. They did a good job of getting the food out to everyone on this really busy day, so the employees are experienced. It's just nothing to write home about.

Yelp
Good service and good food very nice ambiance. Wish it was closer to where I live. Like the lettuce cups!

Yelp
The wheat gluten puffs were surprisingly very yummy with a lot of different sauce combinations, but the No 45 Golden Mushrooms and Dynasty Noodles were a big disappointment-- lacked a lot of flavor and was too dry. Interior is pretty cramped but a typical authentic Chinese restaurant setting. Service was pretty good-- they even pack your leftovers for you.

Yelp
This place is home for me. When I arrived in SF with my wife 20 years ago as a poor artist and vegetarian, this place and it's amazing food nourished us. The women running the place are so friendly. They watched my daughter grow up. There's really no place with it's Buddhist cuisine outside Hong Kong. Just love it.
