The Best Speakeasies & Secret Bars In Austin (And How To Get In) - Austin - The Infatuation

"We know what you’re thinking. “But Infatuation Austin, The Lucky Duck is just a bar on East 6th Street, not a speakeasy,” to which we’ll tell you to head to the back of the patio, behind the basketball arcade games, and make your way through the little wooden gate. There, you’ll find an illuminated walkway guiding you to a cozy little cocktail bar up a flight of stairs, set in an old, remodeled home. It doesn’t have a name, and it’s only open on the weekends—when it’s busy, you’ll be able to scan a QR code at that gate to add yourself to the waitlist—but if you make it inside, you’ll find yourself in a relatively quiet and cozy escape from the busy bar it’s attached to, with cocktails that are a few steps above the average bar in the area." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

The Lucky Duck Review - East Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"The Lucky Duck is a popular bar on East Sixth Street that feels a little bit like a transplant that moved east for cheaper rent. It’s also home to a massive patio in the back with a second bar, food trucks, a few arcade games, and an unnamed with its own entrance. " - Nicolai McCrary

11 of Austin’s Most Refreshing Summer Sips | Eater

"A little quirky and a little quacky, this East Austin bar is a quintessentially casual Austin hangout with its sprawling patio, killer draft cocktails, and an on-site food truck for whenever you need a little sustenance. We suggest the super bubbly Lucky Spritz: Grey Goose Essences, Martini & Rossi Fiero, lemon juice, soda, and prosecco." - Vox Creative

Google
Groovy East Austin bar! Love that they open during the day on the weekends, and have amazing live music. Service is ALWYS consistent (GREAT)!!! Love you guys!

Google
Loved that the crowd was very diverse, different age groups and backgrounds. Good beer and drink options. The burgers and fries were really good and hard to beat for $5.

Google
Didn't get served. Our group wanted to come for trivia night. We tried to call the day before to see if our 18 year old was allowed to come and join us. No one answered the phone. So I made reservations with a specific question and never heard back. So we planned our evening around this event, and when we arrived, we were not permitted in since a minor was with us. Any info on the website, or a phone or email response would have been nice.

Google
Yooo. I am in LOVE with this place. If you know how and where to find this duck. Give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed the environment. You can request the most of the wall drink and the bartenders gotcha. I will be back.

Google
Fun little dive bar. It was a hot day and they don’t have AC. I recommend being ready for heat or just bring a fan! I stopped in for a quick beer to check it out!

Google
if you like to party go here before you call it a night. it's got a back yard that makes you feel like your at a house party. staff is very friendly and helpful (thank you for turning the ATM on after you just shut it down)

We landed in Austin, TX, and was feeling quite hungry. We wanted bbq, but most places were closed, and we found the nearest best place. I'm so happy we did. This place is awesome. It feels like someone's backyard party. There was a live dj playing great reggae/ton mostly. There is an indoors, but we stayed outside. Ordered drinks, which were fairly good. Then we went crazy with the menu. Food took a little while, but surely fresh and super delicious. A good time. If I were not super exhausted, we would have definitely stayed longer.

Google
Do I love this bar? That's a tough question. I definitely go here often enough that it would seem that way. I have my issues with it, sure. The open mic comedy on Wednesdays? Radioactively bad. Truly insufferable. But the bartenders are great, I like when the patio gets nice and crowded, and it's a really solid bar to watch sports! But without a doubt, the greatest strength of this bar is the food truck. It's one of the best kept secrets in Austin. Not only do they frequently have great food deals, but their wings are phenomenal, and only $1 on wednesdays! Their burger deal on Thursdays is also a steal and the quality is surprisingly good. I'll keep coming back because it's a great option when meeting up with friends casually and for the glorious food truck.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Austin finally serves food in the back! The food is really good for bar food in my opinion. I absolutely love their chicken nuggets (cut up pieces of chicken thigh aka juicy!). If you're visiting Austin I recommend you stop here for drinks or go around this location as East Austin is literally the place to be right now (2025). I absolutely love their dj's and espresso martinis (the best in Austin! Strong not sweet). It's a small bar when you walk in and the back yard is big for outdoor seating. I love this place to start or end my night!

Yelp
I wanna start with the lucky duck is one of the best spots in east 6th but the way they treated us over a bad drink that the bartender guy made at the bar was terrible. First of all he SHOULD NOT be bartending... his drinks are horrible. Kicked us out over a drink he made us that was very disgusting AND assumed my friend was throwing up bc she was drunk. Whole time we both try to explain the drink was horrible. Was very disrespectful in the way he kicked us out. Made a whole seen after we try explaining... Don't recommend this place..
google avatar

Karla D.

Yelp
We live with if walking distance and will stop by every now and again. Weekends are usually tough because there's always a line going down the walk with folks waiting to get in. They've got a nice outdoor patio area and food truck. Fun decor and drink specials. Cool bartenders.

Kendall D.

Yelp
No tank tops for guys but girls can wear strapless dresses? Got denied at the door for a tank top. Homophobic. More like lucky YUCK
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Bouncer was aggressive. Me and my friends were in the patio near the exit and he assumed we were exiting and shoved our friend outside. He asked us, is that your friend? We said yes. He said well y'all can go exit too. That was actually very upsetting. We ordered 4 drinks and tipped well because we're celebrating a birthday and I drove all the way from Dallas to Austin have a good time. This bar is apparently super popular, so having to experience that was very upsetting. Everyone around us were confused too, seeing that short man push our girl friend was disappointing.
google avatar

Remi W.

Yelp
This place was a great environment! We came with a group of 10 and sat on the back porch and had a great time. The staff was super friendly. They have a giant projector for sports outside. Would definitely recommend and definitely come back!
google avatar

Melissa I.

Yelp
Fun bar with a cute theme. Duck claw machine, Photo Booth (which says it's $7 but will read your $10 as $3 so then you end up spending $15...tip is probably don't use cash), the food truck out back has amazing chicken bites. Honestly I will be thinking of these for a long time lol. It was in sweet chili sauce and they gave us ranch to dip. It was so hot and so delicious!
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Lucky Duck has some amazing Happy Hour specials and the good vibes to go with it! This was a Thursday where they have a double meat burger with fries for $5. Amazing deal and the burger is top tier delish! Pair it with a few cocktails and the Thursday Latin Night DJ...I'm sold. Probably going to be our regular Thursday hangout spot :) packing is beyond adorable as well!

William R.

Yelp
Lucky duck is always a good time, bartenders and front door staff are always friendly. But man, during the cold, the bar is freezing! Owners may want to add heaters not just for the patrons but for your staff. Poor dudes look cold as heck! Recommend adding heaters for sure! Gave a 3 out of 5 not bc of the staff but because it's as cold inside as it is outside!
google avatar

Jamie P.

Yelp
We stopped by the Lucky Duck while we were bar hopping on east 6th street for a birthday. It was a Friday night so the place, including the expansive back patio, was packed. We were lucky to snag a picnic table and hangout for a while. They had a fun DJ playing music. Their restroom lines were really long and slow, but the bar lines went quickly as they had quite a few bars to choose from.

Jessica R.

Yelp
No hooks in the bathroom but they have Cottonelle. Great drinks for good prices. Bartenders are amazing, introduced me to a new drink when I said what I kind of wanted and it's my new staple.

Klara J.

Yelp
Usually not a bad spot for a few bevs on a night out. But on this particular night, we went in, got a few drinks, and realized upon leaving that one of us had left our credit card at the bar. Speaking to the bouncer, we explained the situation and offered to leave an id/phone with him while we quickly went to the bar to pick it up and leave. The bouncer must have been on the BIGGEST ego trip of his life. He was so rude and clearly doesn't have an ounce of empathy in his entire body. My guy, if you're a bouncer on 6th, you're not hot shit -- hate to break it to you. You could have let us in to get the card like a decent human, but you chose to be shitty. Maybe choose human connection and empathy next time. Don't worry though, we got the card back through the side entrance -- where the staff weren't so shitty. Cheers lucky duck, here's to never again

Yelp
Fun bar with duck decorations and a duck claw machine. They have indoor and outdoor areas with a photo booth. Came here twice. The first time that I was here, we sat outside in the patio and they had a food truck in the back. Second time I was here, it was raining so everyone hung out inside with a live dj and it was pretty crowded. Overall, it was a fun bar on 6th street.
google avatar

Milannie C.

Yelp
While in east 6th, I've always avoided this bar like the plague. It has always seemed too crowded and loud for me. However, I finally gave it and gave it a chance and I'm glad I did. Had a few Basil 75 and they were really good, but definitely my favorite thing was Tommy Want Wingy. Literally it doesn't get much better for wings and drinks.
google avatar

Brianna J.

Yelp
Karaoke Monday night was so fun as our first night visiting!! Came back again the next day to hangout on the patio. Great ice in the drinks. Bartenders were very nice!
google avatar

Brittany K.

Yelp
The best bar in Austin!!!!!! The whole lucky duck crew makes my whole day and they have the best events. Pro tip: they have a speakeasy upstairs that is super dope.
google avatar

Zink C.

Yelp
Been here almost every Monday for Karaoke night. Most of the Bartenders /Staffs here are very friendly! And since I love Karaoke, they never fail me amaze me with their vibes! Love all the Lucky Duck Crew especially Chan, Gavin and Natasha! -Mak
google avatar

Tiffany R.

Yelp
We could have easily stayed out all night here, the music was on point we loved the DJ. The drink lines were long but they moved really really fast which was great service. Snag a spot on one of the benches as fast as you can. Ours had a fan directly over it which helped beat the Texas heat a lot! I'd go back!
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
This spot on E. 6th St. was surprisingly nice. They have a green/duck green thing going on which is super cute. They have a disco ball in the shape of a duck, that was my favorite part of the bar. They have a nice open patio outback, very spacious, plenty of picnic tables. Pretty cool spot to go out with friends.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Lucky Duck keeps me on my toes. It's always a surprise when I stop in. Live music? A DJ playing reggaeton all night? & now, TOMMY WANT WINGY??! You just never know what's next, but that's the reason why I keep coming back.
google avatar

Alec G.

Yelp
The staff and the environment is awesome, if you're "lucky" enough, you'll find yourself in the speakeasy which has a nice vibe to it! Recently tried the food truck and the menu items have been very good, all in all I recommend!
google avatar

J E.

Yelp
Wow... what a dive! This is basically a concrete wall and floored building with a large back yard and a couple of bars... They have loud music and a DJ and you just buy a drink and congregate. Very little seating, not very cozy, not comfy at all. Drinks are basic. But it gets crazy-crowded. It worked somewhat well for our large group, but eventually we all got rather tired of it and moved on to the next place.
google avatar

Bryce M.

Yelp
This is your typical party scene bar that is congregated by a bunch of UT students. Lots of loud rap music playing in the background with very little seating in the backyard. However, it is still a fun environment. There is a claw machine where you try to get rubber ducks which is very entertaining after you've had a few. There's a photobooth in the backyard which is always a fun time. The staff was friendly and fast. Although not really my vibe, I still had a good time.
google avatar

Sarah Xoe J.

Yelp
We really appreciate the kindness of the food truck out back. A cool guy with a genuine heart. Gave us some great food at a great price. Drinking is beautifully complimented by a kind meal and that's what we got. Try the pickle fries! They are delicious
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
My friend and I decided to stop for a quick drink before heading somewhere else. I've only been here like one other time and said why not try it again but it's still just a chad bar with basic vibes and terrible service.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Luck Duck is off of East 6th Street that offers drinks and has a hopping patio with live music and a TV to catch any sporting events. I went on St Patricks Day and they had bands playing throughout the day. There is a bar inside and outback as well. They also have a food truck in the back. When I went they had a local wing truck with some sides like fries and tots. The service was fast and efficient and the drinks were strong. A great place to either day drink or party late in the night.

Jenna G.

Yelp
Went here one night and one of the young bartenders watches how much you tip/if you tip. If he doesn't like it, he makes a rude comments and then won't fill up your glass all the way. He was a white male wearing a cropped shirt that said "hot and h*rny"

Isabel A.

Yelp
loved the fries!! lots of outdoor seating and we liked our drinks. good airflow and not too hot in texas summer. great vibe overall
google avatar

Katie P.

Yelp
East 6th is the new West 6th. Great staff. Nice drinks. Weird/duck theme. +incredibly nice staff. Excellent drink recommendations. -Double check the photo booth price. It ended up charging me $9 on my CC.

Joey P.

Yelp
Awesome place to go out and have fun with friends. Outdoor area is awesome and fun little games to play. Must try the duck machine. This is definitely a going out spot. Good size tvs outside for games.
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Even though I am a decade older than most patrons, The Lucky Duck has never treated me that way, and that is much appreciated! When I lived on the eastside, it would often be one of my last stops before retiring for the evening, and by evening, I do mean early morning, and served all the purposes one needs at that hour. It's dog friendly and sort of kid-friendly since they have a few games in the back (like pop-a-shot), there's live music, comedy nights, and a food truck in the back. It's kind of dirty 6th meets east 6th.
google avatar

Jasmine Y.

Yelp
Didn't try the food but the service was 50% excellent 60% a-hole. The beer was okay but the guy with the 'Stache was in no way helpful with house favorites
google avatar

Kerra S.

Yelp
I'm in love this is my new favorite bar/hangout in Austin. I came on a Sunday around 2pm and the live band was playing, the food truck was open, and the weather outside was beautiful! They have a large outdoor area with tables and a waffle/ sandwich food truck (everything we ordered was delicious.) They also have $2 mimosas all day on sundays, and free tacos with certain drinks! Why would you not come here?!?!?
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
The Lucky Duck is the new bar on East 6th Street, taking the place of the suddenly shuddered Attabar. I'm a bit hard on judging The Lucky Duck, I'll admit, as I was a fan of Attabar and the bartenders that work there. I've been to the new spot once or twice and think it's OK, but I'm a bit upset that they switched their draft cocktail from an Old Fashioned to something else. Granted, I tried the Spicy Margarita and liked it, but I sure do miss getting an $8 Old Fashioned. The Lucky Duck pretty much follows the pricing of Attabar, so $8 draft cocktails and $5 all day happy hour on Monday. It's a good bar and the staff has been nice so far, so I may revisit this review at some point and up them to 4*.
google avatar

Nicolai J.

Yelp
Don't ever bother coming here if you aren't white. The bartenders will ignore you. The food people will treat you like your a criminal. Overall a awful experience I had to have my white friend order for me. People of color avoid this place like the plague. Bathrooms are just outside portapottys. If you're older than 21 and a person of color just save your money and keep walking down there are better cleaner bars than this
google avatar

Laurene T.

Yelp
We decided to give The Lucky Duck a try on Halloween Sunday, and although it was crowded, they genuinely had THE NICEST staff we have ever encountered on East 6th!! They had some of the best prices for the area too, and their draft cocktails were great! They have a large selection inside, as well as a second bar out back, and a resident food truck. There are arcade games, and plentiful seating. They have a large multi-screen tv set up out back for football, and even though there was a DJ playing, it was not overwhelmingly loud. We didn't go for their signature mimosa bucket, but nearly everyone that walked by was carrying one! They are very dog friendly, and even in the craziness, the bartender inside made sure our pups were taken care of. The bathroom situation was a little awkward because there are tables directly next to them, and they were nothing short of disgusting, but I'll chalk it up to being a holiday. We would certainly consider coming back again!

Brooke L.

Yelp
It was the Fourth of July Wait maybe Labor Day But they had free hotdogs and they were playing fire man bu lil wayne Deffff come in I even put a rubber duck in my pocket
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
This place was so much fun. We stopped here while on a pedal tavern and the bartenders were so friendly and funny. Love the idea of crop top fridays good variety of alcohol and fun atmosphere

Kacey N.

Yelp
Menu says kitchen is open till 1. Guy at the bar and several other associates nodded that kitchen was closed at when I asked him at 12:25. Some bull excuse about a freezer problem, despite them serving food all night.
google avatar

Adrian H.

Yelp
Had an aweful experience last night. As some others have said the place is not well kept and can be very dirty. I know you could say "but it's a club" but when you see a restroom that has up everywhere and it's been that way for an hour or so and people are still using it, you'd think otherwise. The bar staff is okay, often times they are not paying attention to you if you aren't the same skin color. This is not a very friendly PoC place and you can really tell where their crowd comes from. Wouldn't recommend for a place to check out in East Sixth. You can find better.
google avatar

Ashton A.

Yelp
Best bar in Austin Texas hands down. It's my number one spot to go any day. I love it . Friendly staff all the time. They make me feel welcome and appreciated every time I recommend lucky duck

Hannah M.

Yelp
I love the claw machine at this location. Also, the lavender drink special was wonderful fun atmosphere to go with friends. I won nine rubber duckies in two tries
google avatar

Cassidy H.

Yelp
The Lucky Duck is my neighborhood bar. It is also one of my favorite bars in Austin. The staff is so friendly and there's always an event going on.

h n.

Yelp
I've been coming here since they opened, and for the amount of traffic it gets, they do a good job of keeping it in order. Tasha is my go to bartender and is undoubtedly one of the best in Austin... If you happen to meet Bert, you'll know by his great energy. Fridays and Saturdays get crazy packed but it's the most lively here of all the bars on the East Side.

Alora M.

Yelp
The Duck is the absolute best dive bar off of this side of 6th. Worth getting lost in the crowd on a Saturday night.
google avatar

Ann O.

Yelp
This place is absolutely my go to bar to go in Austin ! Sunday's are my favorite day to go because they have an outdoor patio area where they have live music playing and serve 2$ mimosas!! They have a food truck in their outdoor area and the food is amazing ! I always get their pulled pork loaded fries which you can go wrong with. The outdoor area is super spacious . Their staff are super friendly and great. Definitely a to go place on East 6th !
google avatar

Logan C.

Yelp
Best damn bar on east, likely the best in town. Covid safe comedy shows every week and live music with the incomparable Neon Bridges every Sunday. The drinks are made with love and a smile. The staff makes you feel safe and at home. Come get lucky at The Duck, you won't regret it. Five stars.
google avatar

Nicholas B.

Yelp
Bartenders underpour and expect you to pay full price. Buy canned beers if you're gonna drink here
