Honestly the best soul food I have had in years. Ox tail was the true meaning of tendernisim, and for 35 bucks, you can not beat it. mac and cheese was perfect, greens were on point, fire red beans and the shrimp, OMFG. These guys know what they are doing. An absolute must stop for authentic soul food. And they do catering or single plates.

I asked for (lemon pepper) wings and I got (spicy lemon pepper) wings. Tasted like nothing but Crystal hot sauce. I should of took them back but the wait is 40 minutes and I didn't have time. Maybe they should double check their orders to make sure that the customer's orders are correct. The yams we're over cooked , maybe they should under cook half of the batch because time.

I just ran across this restaurant location, and it reminded me of a great young-lady, and her mom that use to own, and cook the most amazing fried fish, and sides. I see the small children and they would be about the age pictured but was small babies when I first started eating there. I am going to stop by there today, and my hope is that they are back, and not sure of how and when they may have returned, but I am going to be that regular customer as before. Please let it be them they cooking was amazingly great, and the service was top tier...I cannot wait...

So disappointed. Followed this restaurant on IG and finally made our way from Central Valley to Oakland. Such a disappointment. We ordered 3 plates- oxtails, wings & shrimp, and fish and shrimp. All sides were Mac & Cheese and candied yams. They weren’t worth the prices at all. The yams had entirely too much nutmeg and what tastes like cardamon - very interesting taste. The Mac wasn’t it at all. Gritty and not at all what we expected or hoped. The wing flavor was good, but the skin was chewy. Oxtails were decent- but would still get them from back-a-yard (better price and flavor). Those definitely weren’t worth & $35. The kids liked the fish and shrimp. Probably wouldn’t visit again, but proud of the growth. My opinion is just that. Glad we got to try it, but upset we spent $96.xx and literally couldn’t finish half of it.

Prefacing this with I am NOT from the area. First, I want to highlight the service. The young lady that was working the window today (Mar 20th) was so sweet and had a really positive attitude. This is important because, well, this is Oakland. The wait for the food will typically be about 30-40 minutes so I highly recommend placing your order online and picking up when the time nears. This is NOT a dine-in restaurant. You approach the window, grab your plate and GO. I love this model personally. Too many food service businesses try and do the bar/nightclub thing, sometimes it’s just too much. Also recommend keeping an eye on their instagram as they post when they’re sold out of something or if the hours are altered. This is a well-operated black-owned, small business and I had no hesitation spending my dollars here. Now for the food quality: I got the Basa fish combo. I wasn’t TOO crazy about the fish and wish it was fried harder which, i’m sure if you asked they’d accommodate. The flavor was there and it had some crunch. The shrimp was delicious. The star of the show, in my opinion were the YAMS and COLLARD GREENS. I’m from the South and it was really nice to have found a place out west that sells true soul comforting food. The Strawberry Passion luxenade was on point (THANK YOU for not making it taste like liquid diabetes!) Overall 8/10 Expect to spend about $40-$50. Again, the Quality is there.

Them oxtails were good than a mug. Then I had the wings Asian Zing ones they were good didn't finish them that day till the next. Was worried that the next day they wouldn't be good. Boy was I wrong they were excellent.

Tried it for the first time today. The food was great but the service, not so good. My daughter ordered the fish & prawns meal but substituted the prawns for more fish however when we got our order we were told that since it was late they gave her prawns instead of more fish like they told her they would do. We asked the young lady who took our order why didnt she call us to let us know the situation with the fish so that we could have figured out something else & she told us that she didn't have a phone number to call us to let is knows which was not true because she asked my daughter for her number when she took our order & sent the receipt to her phone🤦🏽‍♀️😡 & the reason why them giving her prawns instead of more fish like they said is because one, they did have her # & should have called to let her know & more importantly, my daughter has a shell fish allergy & had an allergic reaction to the prawns which could have been completely avoided by a simple phone call.

I love Lux box. The owner is very nice also. They just gotta get their telephone system up properly, and lay back on the salt a little bit. I've only had too much salt on the greens one time. But I think it must've been a one day thing, cause I've never experienced that before. When my traveling nurse has come from out of town and wants soul food this is the first place that I recommended to. So we gotta stay on point with the food. Other than that, I think it's the best soul food in Oakland. She's really cooking her grandmother's recipes the right way. PS I would've given them five stars but they get the four, because of the last plate with the super salty greens. But I'm sure it'll be better just like the other times that I've had them. I'm sure I will give them five stars next time.

Been wanting to try this place for a while & I must say I was very satisfied! I'm a chef & I'm very critical when trying new restaurants, especially soul food, & I had a great experience. We ordered two plates of the turkey wings, mac & cheese, greens, candied yams, & the caramel pecan cheesecake for dessert. What stood out the most for me was the turkey wings (full of flavor & tender), yams (soft & a nice subtle sweetness) & the caramel pecan cheesecake (creamy , crunchy & rich). The greens were seasoned well & had a nice kick to them. The mac & cheese was good too, not my favorite but still pretty tasty. What I really liked was that it had the authentic soul food smell before we even tasted the food. (If you know, you know lol). Also, the young lady at the window was very pleasant & accommodating which stood out to me as I'm very big on customer service. The only con for me was the wait time (40mins), which wasn't terrible because I ordered it online while I was in traffic so it was ready by the time I arrived. Also, I noticed it's best to order early in the day as they sell out of most options before the day is over. Overall, my experience was great & I definitely look forward to going back!

I've been wanting to try this place for a while but the hours never work for my schedule and not living in the area just made it a journey. But I the stars finally aligned! Now one thing you need to know is you order at the window. It is not a go in the building situation. The young lady who took the order was very pleasant and patient when going over the menu. Customer service 10/10 It took a good 20-25 minutes. I got spicy lemon pepper wings and prawns. Man that chicken was so flavorful 10/10 The prawns were regular nothing major but I would say 7/10 when i dipped it in the chicken sauce it was even better. Oh yeah and the ran much was on point too! The macaroni and cheese was blah 3/10 the greens were good 8/10 the strawberry banana pudding was 10/10 ! I would definitely be back for that chicken! I see how they sell out. Definitely a place to try for some soul food in the Bay Area!

This review is mainly about the service experience; the food seems to be fine with good portion size and flavor (ordered for my husband's lunch so I only sampled it.) We'd passed this place several times and saw a line outside, which told us that the food must be good and finally decided to try today (a Wednesday about 2:30pm). I attempted to order online in the morning but the order page at clover.com listed "isn't accepting online orders right now". I figured that was because the restaurant wasn't open at the time but the same message remained after the opening hours. I decided to go by on my lunch break to pick up an order for my husband. When I got there, there was a customer waiting outside, she had to tell me that the orders were taken at the window. There is a menu posted on the window as well as store hours on the door but no indication that the window was where to place orders (it has a mirror film that you can't see through.) The person who took my order was very pleasant, but only AFTER I'd ordered and paid did she tell me it would take 40 minutes to be ready. That is a long time for a takeaway restaurant; it's not like they have a dining room. When I questioned it, I was told that "we are really busy". I can understand that the restaurant is busy, but so am I. If I'd known that at the beginning, I could have made a decision to run other errands or not order at all. Although they take your phone number for the receipt, they don't have a system to text you that your food is ready. I set a timer for 45 minutes and came back, the food still took another 5 minutes. While I waited, I scanned the QR code on the sign outside "Order Online" which takes you to toasttab.com, that order page also lists "Not accepting orders". The days and hours of operation on the door also don't match the hours on the website or the sandwich board outside the restaurant. As much as I prefer to support black owned businesses, my time and money are important to me and I don't appreciate either one being wasted. I'd only come back if I had the time to wait; please fix your online ordering system.

I loved the service and the food. I had the oxtails and the fried chicken wings also. The flavor on the oxtails is amazing and they do a good job of rendering most of the fat off the oxtails (overly fatty oxtails are nasty IMO). The drinks were delicious, also... I just wish they would deliver on DoorDash.

They have some of the best Oxtails you will ever have. Worth every penny. If you're in East Oakland, California make sure you pull up and Enjoy.

Answer your phone! My coworkers and I wanted to buy our nursing emergency department each a plate. I called around 3 PM again at 4 PM again at 5 PM and no answer.

I gave this place a try because I saw a review from a foodie on IG...all of the comments were positive. I placed an order online (as suggested) and went to pick up order about 45 mins. later. I ordered the Oxtails (came with rice and gravel) and two side (which were included as well). The price is $35 plus tax not including a tip. I chose Mac and cheese and yams. The young lady at the window was very pleasant and welcoming. The Oxtails were great, meat fell off the bone. Yams were so so. The Mac and cheese was not it. I can't really describe it, but it just wasn't hitting. It looked totally different from the videos on their IG page. Overall, it was ok, but I don't think I'd go back.

Everything was amazing!! I ordered oxtails with rice and gravy, yams. Everything was mouth watering and so delicious. Will definitely return.

Ordered food for pick up which took an hour to be ready. I was excited but disappointed as my food was a bit too salty.. I ordered a plate with oxtails, mac, and greens with another plate of smothered wings, yams, and mac... First time trying and probably wont try again. Would've been good but too salty I couldn't continue eating it and went to waste.

I live 45mins away, I had an appointment in Oakland so I decided to stop by this place for lunch.. I ordered two orders of ol bay honey wings and both orders were wrong!!! .. They gave me plain chicken that was over fried!!! This the second time the chicken was over fried!!! The last time I ate here I had the smothered chicken with same results.. The chicken was tough, the gravy didn't help. Here's the kicker, they weren't even busy! So I don't understand how they F'd up my orders! Also, For the price people are paying, at least make sure the workers are double checking the orders before bagging it up.

Today was my first visit, and I tried the oxtails, mac and cheese, yams, and greens. Everything was a perfect 10/10! The service was quick, the food was well-packaged with no leaks, and the young lady who greeted me was all smiles. It was absolutely delicious!

It's a hell no. Doubt I will return! The sad thing is this was gifted to me because the person swore by this place. The vids and photos on their social media is definitely misleading and honestly false advertisement which should in itself be a crime. Honestly, the best thing was the canned green beans and artificial lemonade. For nearly $40 you get THREE overcooked gritty (poop veined) shrimp and fishy salmon. You get more damn red chili peppers than shrimp! Also they have to get their ordering system together. My party placed our order TWICE only for them to say, when given the phone number and name and shown receipt from online that the order can't be found only for it to magically be found after our 2nd order was ready. This same issue happened to my brother and nephew last night and they settled for Hibachi. I love supporting black owned business but if THIS is what they are serving opposed to what they advertise on their IG, I'll past and simply wish them well.

The food was cold and indecent. Contrary to the reviews left, the staff is not pleasant at the front. Honestly you should listen to the 1 star reviews it is not worth the money.

Top 5 Best soul food in Oakland I love the luxe box everything was sooooo good only thing I didn't like was the stems in my greens but everything else was so good the greens was still fire but that was my only problem Mac. Was pretty good for most Mac and the wings was amazing salmon was cooked to perfection !

I've been 4 times so far with different friends and haven't had a miss yet. Oxtails are so tender and flavorful! If you want some good home cooking, go here! Their smothered chicken over rice! Amazing! My recent order was messed up, which was basa fish and shrimp. I only got one piece of fish and a ton of shrimp! Turns out someone ordered it that way, and I got their order instead, but the lovely ladies at Luxe promptly fixed it! It happens when so many people are coming and going. Please show them some grace and patience!

Late review, but a little disappointed. We were actually on our way to get some pho, when I drove by and remembered this place from IG. People were raving about this place, black owned, soul food. Why not. We ordered the honey glazed salmon with shrimp, chicken wings honey ol bay. Not pictured is the basa with prawns. Sides were Mac and cheese, yams, red beans and greens. Ok the basa was sadly bland, the shrimps were big but way over breaded. The wings were tasty I must admit. The salmon with Cajun shrimps were decent. Only 4 shrimps though, In both plates. The greens were ok, the candied yams were a little too sweet. The red beans were really good, but no rice??? Come on. The Mac and cheese looked like it was gonna be fire. But it was oily, And bland. We were really dissatisfied. Long story short I should have gotten the pho.

Food is mid. but waiting 45 minutes for some chicken wings with fishy macn cheese and greens is crazy . Even people who ordered online were waiting 20 plus minutes. They got to start prepping the food ahead of time or something. It takes 5-6 minutes to fry chicken not 45. Also why does the mac have a seafood taste to it ?!?!?!?!?

We tried the fried fish and prawns and the honey salmon with shrimp, red rice and beans, green, yams, and macaroni. a lot of the food was under flavored . the batter has no flavor and I was very disappointed that the tartar sauce was some nasty packaged stuff that lacks any flavor as well. the luxe lemonade was good and my partner really liked the yellow rice . the macaroni was decent but still could use some more flavor . salmon could use more glaze and flavor . if y'all bump your flavoring up (not just salt actual flavor) then it would be fire

I don't usually write reviews while still eating said food but...This is darn good soul food. I'm currently devouring the Honey Ol Bay Shrimp which comes with yellow rice and two sides. My sides are candied yams and macaroni cheese. I also am having one of the Luxe Lemonades the peach flavor and for a little bit later a slice of lemon cake. Everything is delicious, do not sleep on this place :). P.S. I would take a picture of the food but I'm too busy enjoying these exquisite flavors.

everything is 10/10! everything is flavorful and very seasoned. honey glaze salmon & shrimp is fire. the candied yams is so mf good. my favorite was the mac & cheese im def coming back again

Incredible. Salmon was so tender and flavorful. Loved the subtle glaze that added some sweetness to it. Shrimp was great. The mac and cheese was my favorite. The greens were delicious. Was starving from working all day & was mentally drained from planning when someone came to surprise my friend and i with a plate from here. I shed a tear or two. God knew hallelujah.

The food was really good but they don't accept cash. they didn't put it on their website so when i pulled up to pay cash they told me they didn't accept it. It was a 10/10 id definitely go again but that information would've been nice to know

The Luxe Box LLC is a ghost kitchen at the Oakland Food Hall. Even though it's an active listing, this place is actually closed and cannot fill orders. I will spare you the details. I placed an order, it was confirmed, and then nothing. So in short, the restaurant is not operational. Only it's website and delivery app listings are live.

The food here was so bomb! The only problems I had were; 1. There were kids taking the order. I hope they're at the least getting paid by the hour as they were in there alone taking orders and preparing orders. (They did get my order correct although they didn't repeat it back to me to ensure accuracy, and had my name wrong.) 2. They didn't have any supervision and no one had on hair nets and gloves. Two of the most important things to have when food handling. 3. The lemonade taste like sugared down kool aid I cannot and will not order than anymore. For the best part; 4. The foods presentation was awesome. The containers were durable and not cheap. They made sure to add forks and spoons and napkins. Condiments as well. (And these were kids preparing the order.) The kids were super intelligent and I love that! The young lady who took my order went to Instagram from her page to help me out because I don't have an Instagram and that was the only way I could see what kind of food was being served. By the way, they need menus with photos and prices placed on the windows so you can order. You can't go indoors and the only way to order is through the window from outside. If parking is packed on a busy day, be prepared to walk. The broccoli was greasy and I'm not sure how broccoli can be greasy. The mashed potatoes were A1, the steak A1, the broccoli A-3 because of the grease/oil. The shrimp was A111. I'll have to bring my son to try it so he can give me his perspective since he's the food connoisseur. From my perspective the food is great, and when I feel like splurging this will be my spot. Oh yeah the foods Instagram page list the address as 14th street when it's 14th avenue. It's off of 14th Ave and e.21st street. It's directly on the corner. They don't have outdoor seating or anything. It's grab and go.

Great customer service, good quality food, and large portion size. My go to dishes are the oxtails and the Basa fish with prawns, double greens please. I'm waiting on the gumbo to be added back to the menu.

I cannot believe people think this is good food! We order 2 oxtails dinners, 2 wing dinners and the fried shrimp dinner, the sides were greens, Mac and cheese, rice and gravy and sweet potatoes. The oxtails were a large portion but NO TASTE and I mean no taste! The Mac and cheese was awful as well as the vinegar based greens! We spent a lot of money and did not like anything. The chicken wings were ok, but you can't really mess up chicken wings! I don't know why anyone would say that this food is good, it was terrible. Don't waste your money or time. I really wanted to like this place! It's a NO for me!!

Fish is hella good greens need a little work macaroni is cheesy and good. This some of the best soul food in the Bay Area hands down

The food was excellent. I saw it on the news and thought I would support the mother-and-daughter team, but I did not guess worth the food would be this good. I ordered the Oxtails and Salmon and shrimp. The portions were big, and the Oxtails were tender and flavorful. It was worth all the money that I spent, and the best thing was the customer service. The young lady at the window met me with a smile, with a soft voice, and took the time to explain the items and what I would be getting. I love it. Thank you for the flavorful, good soul food and excellent service.

I found this place on Instagram after several friends posted how delicious the food was. Ehh. I had to go on a bad day. The food was bland and dry. I was told it was black owned and operated but there were latinos or Mexicans running the place. I ordered the fried prawn combo with rice and gravy and macaroni and it was extremely bland. No seasoning what so ever. The rice and gravy was dry and mushed together like it was a meal that sat overnight and reheated. Definitely upsetting. I also ordered the salmon and prawn combo and only received three prawns. What a joke. If you're going to be cheap with prawns don't sell what you can't afford to sell. The macaroni was okay really mushy and tasted like seafood. The greens were okay. I won't return! Kudos to you all.
