What a nice place. I'm more fond of the back area near the bar, it has a more relaxing vibe. The food was very good, the apple pie french toast was excellent. I'd go back any time. Very friendly staff. Haven't been here in 12 years but still as good as I remember .. I will mention i would have preferred not to hear the Rhianna album the entire time I was there but you cant always get classical or Sinatra

We visit Cape May every December and eat here every year. Festive atmosphere, friendly staff and consistently delicious food. Fresh, large portions. The menu is varied, with vegetarian and vegan options. I've never had a bad dish.

Any other restaurant in cape may would’ve provided a better dining experience than this place save your money because it definitely wasn’t cheap either. Every item that we ordered was disappointing even down to the soda, and the icing on the cake for me was when I was eating my leftovers I bit into a piece of plastic baked into my pizza… Clearly there is no food safety precautions taking place in that kitchen and seriously has me questioning what other inedible things may have been contaminating my food. Updating my review after speaking with the joke of a manager Kyle. He was extremely rude and ignorant and hung up on me. He actually said “ I think we are past the point of rectifying the situation since you already left a review.” Maybe since we are past the point of rectification the health department should be my next call…

We came here on a Saturday in December and while busy only waited 25 minutes. The food was excellent. The maple waffle chicken was excellent however difficult to eat. But it was worth it. The special omelette with chorizo and shrimp was excellent.

Highlight: ✨️Orange Almond French Toast✨️ One of the best flavored French toasts I've ever had! No reservations, walked up and were given a buzzer with 1.5 hour wait time. Told by staff to come back to area 45 min after receiving buzzer. We were ready and seated within 10 min of coming back (50-55 min total wait). Service was good. Food arrived after a short wait (we were very hungry so it felt longer than it was) All requests were accommodated quickly and food was well made.

Had breakfast here the day before, eggs a pancake were good enough so came back the next night for dinner. What a mistake. I had both specials massaged kale and couscous ok, the monkfish etouffee flavorless But the real reason for the review is the chicken breast with the cream jus. Cold dry chicken that was definitely a day old. Are waitress Joanna was the only bright spot of this place . Honest, polite, courteous It’s a shame she had to apologize for the food and the flies . Not as impressive as expected This restaurant offers a wide variety of breakfast options, so I had high hopes. I ordered the Brussels sprouts fritters, but they didn’t taste as good as I expected. There was still a strong, unpleasant green taste from the vegetables, and honestly, I don’t think deep-frying works well for this dish. I also tried the award-winning cupcake, but it was just average—nothing special. The pancakes were underwhelming too; I’ve had better at other places, despite all the hype in the reviews. The orange juice was supposed to be freshly squeezed, but I couldn’t tell if it actually was. It tasted overly sweet and artificial, more like something with added sugar than real juice. The one dish I did enjoy was the eggs Benedict—the thick-cut bacon made it really satisfying, and that plate was the highlight of my meal. Overall, it’s a place you could try, but you’re not missing out if you don’t. There are definitely better breakfast spots in the city.

We made a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant is located in the Carroll Villa Hotel which is historic and charming. We had quick and excellent service. I had the corn and crab ravioli which was tasty. My husband had the blackened scallops with mac and cheese which were amazing. We also had a crab cake appetizer which was probably the highlight of the meal. As a beer girl, I loved that there were lots of local beers on tap. Parking was a bit of a struggle, but I always opt to park in the liquor store lot and take a nice little walk through the outdoor mall.

Cool vibe. Hubby's food was good. He had a big omelette with hash browns etc I was excited to try gluten free pancakes but they were IMO were dry and flavorless. However our waitress was just INCREDIBLE. Attentive although it was super busy. Complete Opposite experience at their sister restaurant.

Took a trip to Cape May to check out the Harriet Tubman Museum on Juneteenth so I decided to find somewhere to have brunch. The wait was about 20 mins so I decided to sit at the bar where I had no wait and service was quick. I ordered a Mango Mimosa and the 3 egg lobster omelette with potatoes and toast. I would love to go back and explore all of the decor in the restaurant when I have some extra time.

We got seated rather quickly despite the long line which was a plus. We were seated overlooking a garden, which was cute. My husband ordered the clam chowder and I ordered the pancakes. Our food was unfortunately not brought out at the same time so I had to watch him eat while I waited for my food. Our waitress did offer to replace his soup once my meal came out, but he didn't find the soup to his liking so we declined. The chowder was very heavy on the bacon, which tasted almost undercooked. The pancakes were very yummy however.

Visited with family off season so was able to sit down promptly for a table of 9 around 11:30 on a Thursday. Friendly staff and menu had a great number of options. My youngest has a dairy and egg allergy so it was so great to see the number of vegan options including vegan cheese pizza on top of an entire vegan menu. The portions are pretty big, the kids pizza was HUGE, same for the sandwiches and salads. (5/5) for the special which was a dill pickle fried chicken sandwich that my husband said was fantastic. Chicken to batter ratio was great and cooked perfectly with just the right amount dill pickle flavor (5/5) for the kids options which frankly were very generous in portion and didn't suffer in quality (4/5) I ordered the arugula mozzarella salad with balsamic vinaigrette and a side of lump crab yummy but no flavor in the crab but salad itself was great Space is huge front back and large bar area. Bathrooms clean and decently sized. Family friendly and vegan friendly. Pancakes looked amazing and would definitely come next for breakfast!

As a gluten free person (not celiac though), I was surprised that they had gluten free options in regular gluten meals. I had a gluten free turkey sandwich with a real gluten free baked bun!! Now for those of you who are not gluten sensitive, you are probably scrolling to the next review. Good fresh baked gluten free bread is hard to find but a gluten free roll, nearly impossible- right? I thoroughly enjoyed the turkey with greens, blue cheese, tomato on that gf-bun! Ok now the place was pretty cool, historic hotel with plenty of seating and we sat in the back facing a garden that was pretty. The waitress was attentive but not intrusive and very sweet. So why only 4 stars, my companions had a chicken panini that was a bit hard and dry and a salad that was a bit dry despite balsamic vinaigrette. So this gf girl was very happy with her meal but my friends not as much.

We were in Cape May yesterday and stopped here for lunch. They were super crowded since it was raining at the time. We ended up sitting at the bar for lunch. Our bartender was so friendly and personable! For entrees, we had the blackened fish sandwich and the wings. My blackened fish sandwich was very tasty but there were a few bites that tasted like straight salt. The wings were good and had lots of meat on them. We enjoyed our lunch here and would come back again!

The Mad Batter has been a family favorite of ours for 20 years now! It was the perfect spot to get brunch to celebrate my mom's birthday yesterday. They do not take reservations for breakfast but we were seated right away. For the off season, it was bustling! Their mimosa is always a fav of mine. They use fresh squeezed orange juice which takes it to the next level! For my meal, I had the eggs benedict and subbed smoked salmon for canadian bacon. This option is not on menu, but they can do it for a small upcharge. It was delish and came with TONS of breakfast potatoes! Yum! My mom had the BEC on a bagel and loved it as well. I didn't have it this time, but I also love their almond orange french toast. Perfect if you are in the mood for a sweet breakfast! This restaurant is a Cape May staple and a must visit when you are in the area!

In all the times we've visited cape may (about 3-4 times now) I've always wanted to try mad batter but couldn't deal with the long wait times and young kids in tow. Well. We finally made a point to be there at opening (8am) and we were the 3rd party seated. Delicious food. I did take a star off bc our server was a tad rough around the edges but no complaints on the food. And the fresh orange juice was the best.

So many reviews pointed me to Mad Batter for brunch! We got their fairly early and although it was packed, the wait was only 20 minutes which isn't bad. Parking in the area was rough as my bf had to circle a couple of times. Once he arrived, we were seated immediately. Their menu is extensive, which I like! So many solid options, even cocktails. I started off with a tequila paloma I believe, it was tasty and had a good amount of alcohol. For my entrée, a caesar salad with a side of eggs, potatoes and toast. My bf ordered the buttermilk pancakes with blueberries along with an omelet, potatoes and toast. Food was delicious! Those pancakes though...I'm coming back for those specifically. Ambiance was lively and loud. It felt like a huge mansion brunch. Mad Batter definitely lived up to the reviews! Will be back!

Cutesy naming is the cost of entry for any upscale eatery that has the ocean as a neighbor and Cape May's Mad Batter certainly holds up that tradition. All is forgiven as their breakfast fare in sublime. My Eggs Benedict were a runny masterpiece with bacon crisped perfectly. The line here forms early so get your azz out of bed. Five easy stars.

After a long road trip from NYC, I was craving something meaty, was not disappointed here, as the filet mignon was quite juicy and cooked to the proper temperature. The waitress was nice to us, and seemed like she was quite busy, so no points off for the timing. I saw this restaurant on reddit first as a must-visit for the Cape May area, and would definitely come back again. Did not like the bayberry wings as much since it was quite sweet for my liking.

My favorite thing to order here is the eggs Benedict! So delicious and flavorful! I add sausage to mine instead of the ham and remove the capers. I have yet to have a bad experience ordering this item! The home fries are good too and pair well with this hearty breakfast! The mimosas were delicious and you can't go wrong ordering a few! The service is fast once seated. The wait is worth it. Don't get discouraged by the long wait times! If there is space at the bar, try to grab a seat if open.

I had the Apple salad with spiced walnuts, radicchio, dried cranberries, some blue cheese and a cranberry vinaigrette very tasty and nice size portion. Wait staff was very nice! Started getting crowded as we were fining up too so good timing for lunch!

On our Cape May visit we decided to try the popular Mad Batter for its brunch specials. Its quite busy, recommend arriving early to snag a seat. We waited about 50 min on a Sunday around 10AM. We ordered the crab eggs benedict and the big batter. The EB were lacking flavor, nothing noteworthy. The big batter was an overall basic bfast meal but was satisfying. The sausage and bacon had a crispy exterior and had a nice flavor. The service was mediocre. The seating staff seemed annoyed and the service seemed a bit rushed. The inside decor gives it a warm southern comfort feel. Would probably return to try the pancakes which seem to be a fan favorite.

I am updating my review due to a positive brunch experience while staying in town Columbus Day Weekend. Hostess was nice, place looked clean, food was great, and service was on point. We said we would most likely not be back last visit. We lied. *Breakfast Margarita *Eggs Benedict With Lump Crabmeat *Croustade (ordered without sausage) Everything was delicious and service was great. I will chalk up the lunch experience of September 2022 as an off day and put this place back in rotation. It has the reputation it has for a reason. The next time I am in town I want a Manmosa for brunch.

Service was awful. Food adequate. Our server was rude. We waited a long time for our dinner and they were badly busy.

A place so nice, we went twice (in one day). The Mad Batter is a MUST when in Cape May. We go every year and it never disappoints. For breakfast we did Belgian waffle, kids chocolate chip pancake, gluten free pancakes and the corned beef beef hash. Pomegranate mimosa and coffee for me, paloma and OJ for hubby, and the kids had lemonade. The OJ is absolutely freshly squeezed. It tasted like I was biting a perfectly ripe orange. Hubby LOVED his paloma. Dinner my daughter had nachos, my son chicken fingers and fries, hubby had a BBQ chicken pizza with no cheese as he's dairy free, I had the sausage paella. The chorizo is made in house and it was delicious, very flavorful. Hubby said the rice in my paella was a little hard for him but I thought it was perfect. He was pleasantly surprised by his pizza. Drinks for dinner were the Bayberry which is sort of like a paloma but had tequila that was infused with pineapple and jalapeno. It was DELICIOUS. Hubby had another paloma. We had open air seating with a nice breeze by the window. We will absolutely be back.

Always a staple but I realize I never posted a picture of their pancakes. My absolute favorite pancakes. I literally dream of these things. Everyone else on my Great Pancake Journey serves flat, lifeless pancakes. If I wanted crepes, I would've gotten crepes. These are out of this world. Got Taylor ham today, well done. Saltier than I'm accustomed to. Can't explain it. It's the off season so it was a lot slower than I'm used to so a quiet (other than the clanging of coffee cups and silverware) breakfast it was. Paige, my server, was fantastic. Helpful and good. Like I said, I LOVE these pancakes. A must have!

Disappointing dinner. The main dining area was too loud and the food was just average at best. The salmon with fried rice was overcooked and not of restaurant quality. The chicken with gnocchi was also over cooked and the sauce was gelatinous, obviously sitting in the kitchen. We went to celebrate a major anniversary but not enjoyable and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. We wished we had looked at the reviews closer because we would have chosen a different place to celebrate.

My party had a really delicious brunch here! The prices are really fair, and Tom, our waiter was very friendly and attentive. They have a good amount of vegan options which is really nice. Everyone was happy with their meals!

To start our server Kelly was fantastic, she was very kind and made what ever we needed happen. Most of our food was delicious some of the fries were soggy, we got the Saturday soup special, a tomato bisque with crab and it was so good, now the pizza was not our favorite but it was definitely different . I loved the look of the place and how there was a porch for outdoor seating. Definitely recommend!

The food was stellar. The omelettes were STUFFED and hearty. The pancakes were so fluffy and the potatoes were delicious. The Bloody Mary was the perfect balance of everything and the server was extremely attentive. It was clean, quiet but lively and beautiful! It was also extremely reasonable price wise.

It's perpetually busy at the mad batter except for 8-830 AM! But it's so worth the wait. The staff are lovely and very attentive. The food is great with large portions. I like the vegan blt breakfast sandwich or the bay Benedict for breakfast. The manmosa is a fun drink - be careful! It's strong. :) they have rotating artists so thats always fun to see around the restaurant.

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. It had been on my list for a while. So, we were in Cape May for the day and decided to go for a late lunch. The ambiance and service were great. We sat on the front porch overlooking a charming little side street. I ordered the cheesesteak and my wife ordered the chicken salad sandwich. Although both sandwiches tasted good, they were small and undeserving of the price in my opinion. I can't say I would recommend to any of my friends unfortunately.

Mad Batter was our final Cape May stop before the sojourn back up the Parkway, and it was one of the best. This was a recommend from a few others, and while I was a LITTLE apprehensive at the vibe/décor (the logo literally has the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland on it with JUST enough of a difference I suspect to avoid an intellectual property issue), the substance matched the style. My chums weren't quite as enthused as I was, but no one could actually come up with a negative comment to compel me to consider this anything less than perfect, so here we are. The restaurant was pretty busy, which makes sense as a notable brunch location on Sunday morning. Despite that it was very easy to procure a table without a reservation - the place is VAST. We were led through about two or three rooms (all full of people) before we got to our table in the back of the building, which was a few feet away from giant windows overlooking a small garden. Every room seemed to have its selling point. And while yes, this is unquestionably a themed restaurant, it's honestly pretty subtle as far as that goes. You're not eating brunch and making eye contact with a creepy Cheshire Cat statute or anything - there's plenty of other non-Lewis Carroll shizzle to look at. Somehow I still had an appetite after consuming my weight in Doritos and pizza the prior few days, and ordered the Chesapeake Bay Benedict without capers ($17). Delicious and reaffirmed (not that it needed to) my commitment to it as my go-to vacation brunch meal. It was also an ample serving, with scrumptious, perfectly seasoned home fries. I don't know what it is about hollandaise sauce, crabmeat and eggs together, but I'm down for it every time. This is also a major statement given that I left our Airbnb intent on righting the ship and ordering something healthier like oatmeal, but as soon as I made eye contact with this item on the menu, that was that. (I fixed the situation the following day, and all is right with the universal balance, etc.) Last year, our crew finally figured out how to navigate the eternal sweet/savory brunch debate, and we ordered a waffle to split. I'm pretty sure based on my memory and the accompanying picture that it was some variation on the Pecan Belgian Waffle but I think it was on the daily specials menu. Anyway. For four people it was the perfect sweet portion to round out the breakfast palate. I honestly don't remember the last time a restaurant butchered my waffle (isn't that stuff timed on the waffle iron?) but you'll be stunned to learn that this one was cooked just right. The service was very good. I don't recall a particularly gregarious waitress (at a busy touristy brunch place, I wouldn't expect one), but I also don't recall having to wait a significant amount of time for anything, and there was plenty of coffee and water to swill down while I awaited the appearance of my beloved Bennies. She got the job done. Both of the mornings we woke up in the area, I trudged outside for over 20 minutes in uneven weather to locate coffee and other forms of sustenance. Don't do that. Wait for everyone to wake up, and then go to a place like this with the rest of civilized society.

Excellent food. Server was great. Made up for the hostess and manager who were not friendly and seemed "inconvenienced" we had a larger party (6) and an infant (10 months). Such a shame to this establishment.

We came here during Cape May's restaurant week to try their Prix Fixe menu. They had a pretty good selection and their dinner hours started at 3PM which is why we chose this place. Their dinner hours actually took nearly a half hour for the kitchen to shift from lunch to dinner. So we didn't actually get seated until close to 3:30. They might want to advertise 3:30 as their dinner hours, at least for restaurant week. They could've at least taken our names to be called when they were ready instead of having us come back later. Fortunately, aside from that, the rest of the experience was fantastic! We were seated in the backroom past the bar. It was a very nice intimate atmosphere in this room. Far enough away from the bar to be quiet with a good view of their back patio and koi pond. But let's talk about the food now! We both went with the Restaurant Week menu. I ordered the Roasted Pear Salad, Grilled Swordfish over risotto, and Apple Bread Pudding for dessert. My friend got the clam chowder, Blackened Scallops, and Flourless Chocolate Cake. We were given some bread rolls along with oil and butter to start. Everything that entered our mouths was amazing and plated so beautifully! I admit, this is my first experience with swordfish so I have no comparison to make or knew what it was supposed to taste like beforehand. This was a very good first swordfish for me. It was grilled really well but it was still so tender. The crab risotto that accompanied it was very creamy and savory. I think our favorite dish between the both of us was the Blackened Scallops. Those scallops were charred with a nice sear that gave it a great crunch but the scallop was still soft. The scallop was also seasoned really well and topped with a great sauce. The Mac and cheese side dish with the scallops had a good sharp cheese taste and could've been a dish of its own. You can probably tell we walked away very satisfied with our meal. Everything was good! One more note: shoutout to our server Karen who did a fantastic job handling our service from start to finish!

The orange almond French toast was delicious. I wish I ordered it for myself, but luckily I got to eat my kid's leftovers. The Chesapeake Bay Crab Benedict was bland. Assuming it was canned crab - I had to salt and pepper a lot and just ended up giving the rest to my husband. He ordered the corned beef hash and said it tasted homemade and enjoyed it. Cute decor, fair prices, and great attentive server.

Very popular place..of course not many places open since we're here in February. I had the Waldorf salad on croissant. It was fresh and delicious. It was close to closing time so service was perfunctory but sufficient.

Great food and service. Super crispy potatoes with breakfast! Mimosa was delicious and good cappuccino with cinnamon on top of foam.

Delicious, very diverse menu with lots of options and we wished our stomachs were large enough to try EVERYTHING, haha. Friendly, responsive staff and a great dining experience. As an added benefit, Beautiful artwork adorns the walls, and it's a third generation family business founded by a bonafide hero of WWII--a Jewish-American who fought the Nazis in both D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge

Mad Batter is a mainstay in Cape May. Almost everyone that I know, that has ever been to Cape May, has experienced this eatery. Our server, Katie, did a great job and was very friendly. Every one of our items were delicious, fresh, and served in large portions. My item, the Almond/Orange French Toast was AMAZING! Both of those ingredients made this entree so good and enjoyable. Mad Batter is always busy and will present you with a very tasty and memorable meal.

Won't be back. Dinner on 6/2/24 was highly disappointing. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate the food experience a ... 1. My partners Short ribs were so fatty they had to be Chuck roast. At least 50% fat. My Blackened scallops were tasteless. Not the fresh and sweet flavor scallops always provide. Very disappointing. The desserts were most uninspiring. The choc mousse was frozen and only partially thawed. The Dulce de leche was on a wafer and overly sweet. This dinner was a totally wasted $150. Will absolutely not be back. Giving this a one star rating only because I couldn't go lower on this app.

We ate lunch twice at the Mad Batter during our first trip to Cape May, and it's also one of the best brunch places in town, the wait was long on the weekend. It has comfortable booth and bench seating in the front and plenty of patio-like seating in the back. Bustling with locals and visitors alike, the service remains friendly and courteous. I can't say enough about their crab cake sandwich, it was so tender and flavorful, I would come back to Cape May just to have it again and I'm not even kidding. Their cheeseburger was also on point and a nice filling meal before making our journey back home.

The food was pretty decent. The ambiance in the place was pretty nice as well and the people greeting you at the door were nice. The service was absolutely terrible! The waitress was mean and everyone from their 30s to late 60s at our table were both perplexed and annoyed at how slow and rude she was. I think our experience would of been better with a different person potentially as it really made part of our family vacation miserable. For perspective as a table of 6 it took 20 minutes for a very small glass of water and 35 minutes for mimosas..plus we had to remind her of the various parts of the order she forgot when food came around. The manmosa was fun and different to drink though!

So many people recommended this place to us for breakfast or brunch! Last time we visited Cape May (early May) we could not get in, so we tried again this morning and had zero wait. We were greeted and promptly seated, and our server was quick, attentive, and friendly. The menu offers many great choices -- something for everyone -- and our server happily gave us her recommendations. We were excited to hear we could just get one or two pancakes instead of the full stack of three, so we could try their famous recipe in addition to the meals we wanted. We split one oatmeal pancake, hubby got Creamed Chipped Beef, and I got the Eggs Benedict. Everything was good, though mine could have used more flavor. The Hollandaise was kind of bland. Eggs were perfectly poached, but also on the bland side. I never add salt to meals in restaurants, but this needed a little bit. That aside, it was fine. Temperatures and portions were just right! They started to get more busy as we were leaving, but we did not feel rushed. The ambience is slightly different in each dining area; we were seated in the back, which was very nice with its airy shore feel. Prices are average. No on-site parking but plenty of options along the street and in the nearby lots. Unisex restrooms were clean and functional. We enjoyed our experience and can understand why it's popular. I am glad we had a chance to try it!

Went here during a weekend anniversary getaway. It was average but pricey and way more than it warranted. One of us got the ribeye special and the other a salad with scallops added. The food was cooked perfectly and the scallops were fresh. The beets were bland and over roasted. I didn't enjoy the blend of greens served with the salad but the dressing was delicate and delicious. The salad itself was a great complement to the scallops. Our server was nice. We have been to Mad Batter before. This was not our favorite visit. The live music was great and we did enjoy that.

I originally expected to come here almost two years ago but life happened and it wasn't possible. Now my second time in cape may I had to make sure I gave this place a chance. At first glance, it is overwhelmingly busy. The line outside is super long - but everyone is in groups. I expected a wait for two for at least an hour - and when we got to the host stand, it was a 40 min wait. Do-able but still lengthy - bar was full, however there was a counter ledge that had spaces open and we were seated instantly! Tried the country breakfast - your typical scrambled eggs with sausage and home fries - nothing to rave about Also tried the corned beef hash - second photo - you can NOT see the hash but it is under those massive amount of eggs! Very delicious, nice and toasty, can't ever go wrong. Eggs were nice and fluffy - home fries were delicious Music was great, they even played some reggaeton which I was ecstatic about! Wonderful place

Came here for a brunch while visiting Cape May. Cute spot with lots of tables and a bar. Folks were drinking at the bar at 11:30am on Thursday (???). Rock on folks; remember admitting you have a problem is the first step in overcoming it. Service was fine, food was tasty and portions were good. Both of us took to go boxes. Home fries (with omelet) were great. Fries (with sandwiches) are perfect level of crispiness. Connected to a hotel. Restaurant was empty in late November but gotta imagine it gets jammed in season. When visiting Cape May, they are militant about parking so be sure to pay on the app and don't plan on any grace period when yourmeter runs out. Parking summons will cost you $36-.

Great place for breakfast. The location is great right next to the mall. I had the eggs and I liked them.

Wouldn't eat here again. The crab cake was so good, but $16 and definitely not big enough to get full off of or share with others. The pizza was terrible. It was wet and flavorless :( and quite small and $16. I entered the restaurant happy and left the restaurant very very sad. Service was fine, ambiance was ok. Bathrooms were nice ‍

Quality breakfast here. The apple cinnamon waffle was delicious. I got the eggs and sausage with a side of fruit. It was excellent. The place is really cute on the inside too
