Yelp
About a 2-2.5: The Malt House offers various American eats, such as appetizers (such as Marco Nacho, Pulled Pork Sliders, etc.), salads, pasta dishes (such as Tagliatelle Carbonara), handheld options (such as Birria Tacos), main dishes (such as Pan Roasted Chicken), sides, and a drink menu.
We came here as a large group with advance reservations - the first thing we noticed was that this was packed to the brim and it was extremely loud - so loud that you can't really have a conversation within your party.
I tried:
+the Firecracker Shrimp - large shrimp with a sweet and sour glaze; it was stated that it came with stir-fried vegetables and scallions, but not sure where those were; also, these are definitely not the typical 'Firecracker' version that one might expect, as these just seemed like steamed shrimp with some type of a sweet and sour sauce on it; kind of on the bland side
+Buttermilk Chicken Bites - served with a sweet chili sauce and crispy Brussels sprouts leaves; this chicken bites had a good breading on them and were good as apps
+Tavern Wings - dressed in Buffalo sauce, served with a side of bleu cheese; I wished these were cooked a tad bit longer, but the wings had good flavor
+Wisconsin Cheese Curds - white cheddar bites, panko-fried, served with a side of marinara sauce; these were just okay and could have been more piping hot
+Guacamole Clasico - made with jalapenos, onions, cilantro, and cotija cheese, served with corn tortilla chips; the guacamole was definitely more chunky and had a strong citrus taste to it
+the New York Strip Steak - this came with a side of herbed fries, and the steak was dressed with a bordelaise sauce; the steak was a little fatty for a NY strip; the sauce gave the steak enough flavor, but I wished they had steak sauce available; fries were extremely plentiful in terms of portions
+the Bewitched - made with Illegal Mezcal, passion fruit & habanero mix, fresh lime, and mint agave foam; tasted similar to a margarita, but could have been more stronger; seemed a bit watered down
Others ordered the Seafood Fettuccine, the Scottish Salmon, the Pan Roasted Chicken, the Birria Tacos, and the American Tavern Burger, which all seemed to enjoy and finish.
The service staff was friendly, but could have checked in with us often in terms of drink refills, condiments, and/or to get the check.
The place is also extremely dark, which could be both positive and negative; there were some tables that didn't have the battery-powered candles, so it was hard to read the menu or see if your food was missing anything or prepared correctly.
I'm glad I was able to try this place out, but not sure I would return.
+extremely loud & dark inside!
+hit-or-miss service
