The 10 Best Sports Bars In Houston

"If you desire to celebrate Canada Day everyday, check out Maple Leaf Pub in Midtown. Unapologetically Canadian, this spot serves many different Canadian beers, and displays more hockey paraphernalia than likely exists in the entirety of Texas. Naturally they serve poutine (and it’s pretty solid). But they also have standard bar food and Indian-inspired dishes like loaded queso with masala and butter chicken to eat while catching up on Leafs game." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

The 16 Best Bars and Restaurants in MIdtown Houston | Eater Houston

"Perhaps Houston’s best-known Canadian pub, Maple Leaf is the place to watch hockey playoffs while also eating classic poutine, beer-battered fried cheese curds, or steak and eggs during the weekend brunch. The specialty cocktail menu includes creative takes on drinks like the bloody mary and negroni, and yes, the serve Molson on tap." - Brittanie Shey

Most of the food is great. Very small menu. Do not order Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich unless you want your meat tasting like grilled bologna.

My roommate and I have been trying out new places in town as we are new to the area, so we came by to give this place a try the other night. When we got there, we found that you order everything through a QR code and the bartender or food runner brings everything. So this was a little odd because not a single person greeted us, nor were we able to just get some waters while we looked through the menu. This made things like asking for extra napkins, sauces, etc. more difficult. None the less, we weren’t completely discouraged by this and we ordered some apps that were pretty good. Midway through eating our entrees, I see a baby roach crawl across the table. Immediately we were both grossed out because it being a baby roach means there’s more hiding somewhere. I went up to the bartender to let her know, and she said “oh I’m sorry” and walked away with no further response or way to mitigate the situation. It honestly felt like an “oh well that sucks” , so we left with our half eaten food and half drunken beers still on the table. It was honestly just a really bad first impression, and a comp on the food or at least a drink would’ve been a nice gesture considering we couldn’t even finish our food not knowing where the roach came from. That on top of not even really having a direct kind of service is enough for us to probably not return. I included pictures of the bug.

Been here three time since moving to Houston and it has delivered every single time. The food taste great, the drinks are cold and the service has been top notch. Great place to catch a game. 10/10 recommend!!

Google
One of my favorite low-key spots in Houston! The Maple Leaf Pub has great energy—chill but lively, with a unique mix of regulars and newcomers. The staff is friendly, the drinks are well-priced, and the vibe is exactly what you want from a neighborhood pub. Big fan of the patio area too when the weather’s good. Definitely a go-to for a laid-back night out.

Excited when we walked in on a Saturday afternoon to watch the Stanley Cup playoffs. Seemed to have a good vibe, just a few people, hockey everywhere. We sat at the bar for about 7-8 minutes. Bartender kept walking in front of us, no service. Another bartender joins in and still nothing. They start serving people next to us. Politely I told them we were waiting. Woman bartender acted as if she hadn't seen us. We were right there, feet from her at a nearly empty bar. The other bartender who was literally in front of us the whole time, stayed silent. What a dick. We walked out. The place sucks. No way in hell I"ll ever recommend it to anyone. Plenty of bars in this town don't waste your time at this one.

Google
Great place to watch hockey. The TVs are showing their age, but the vibe is legit. They have good food and a decent selection at f beer. Gotta get poutine to get into the right spirit. We went on a Thursday for steak night. Steakflation is real as it’s now $26 for the ribeye. Ordering through the QR code website is fast and efficient. Parking is tough if you’re not lucky enough to get a spot in the small lot in the back. Street parking is free after 6pm.

I was on a business trip to Houston and found out about this place where the Oilers v Panthers game would be playing. Being a huge Oilers fan, I was super excited to go here with a colleague and see so many fans! The atmosphere was awesome, the tvs are great and we got a seat that wasn’t reserved, which was a bonus. The service, however, is pretty bad. We were standing around not sure if we needed to be seated or if we could seat ourselves. After waiting for a few minutes, my colleague asked the guy behind the bar if we could seat ourselves and he just shrugged and was a little dismissive, which I thought was odd. Our server wasn’t really helpful when we asked about the beer selection and said she’d bring a paper menu to us, but 15 mins later, she didn’t and we just ordered via the QR code. There was no communication , little interest in customers and I thought that was disappointing for a really cool little pub. I definitely expected better as a Canadian, especially when this place is owned by a fellow Canadian. Hospitality is in our blood, but unfortunately this place didn’t have that.

Google
Wish I’d have read some of the recent reviews on the service here and I wouldn’t even have wasted my time. Seems this places picks and chooses who they serve based on quite a few different factors. Also, I will second the recent review about the gentleman with the gray beard. Why he works in a restaurant setting is beyond me.

Yelp
So this Canadian bar has become one of my favorite bars in Houston. Its a super casual, fun bar that seems to attract a mixed crowd. As a hockey "fan" (read that extremelt loosely) its fun to come and watch some hockey and enjoy the ambiance. Beer and drinks are affordable and each table has a QR code from which you can order. Waiters come by and check on you periodically but you can mostly sit and enjoy the company of friends or yourself. Waiters and staff have all been very pleasant when I interact with them. And for a predominantly drink focused spot, they put out pretty good food! The tots are always very crispy, poutine good (not the best but what other options do I have this far south?), and the sandwiches have all been great. I really enjoyed Thursday night trivia as well so come and grab a beer, enjoy random night specials, and chill with some hockey/sports on tv!

Sudhir N.

Yelp
Very average experience at this bar I was kind of disappointed I stopped in for an hour to get a beer while waiting for a friend beer was $7.50 for a draft and then after that came out to about a buck 50 for the tip experience not really very friendly place. I've heard a good things about this place but it's a very meh experience. Maybe others have a better experience, but I will be returning.

Yelp
A nice cozy feeling social pub at Midtown. Cosy as in not small, but warm. Its chic, located in a very good area, with lots of food options including vegan. Used to be a heavily occupied place, Covid had made it pretty quite soo much that when we visited after it had just reopened, we were the only other group. We sat there hydrating ourselves while we caught up on the last year and munched on snacks. The added bonus was the games in the house. We ate samosas, these came with green and tamarind chutney, and naan bites which came with yummy hummus and loaded tortilla chips. We relished all items. I have to mention that they do have a long exhaustive menu of various entrees as well, its just that we did not try any that day. Now the games, there was dart game, billiards, computer games, mini indoor basketball, board games, card games and many more. Price is appropriate to the location and ambiance. We had a wonderful time. Its a great place to catch up with buddies and really chill.

Yelp
One of Midtown's coolest bars, proudly Canadian and passionate about hockey. They show all the hockey games especially the Maple Leafs (see the name) and serve Canadian beers and eats. What's not to like about that? Molson beer runs a plenty here as well as Crown Royal whiskey. Of course they have all kinds of alcohol and they do shots as well. You'll see people here taking plenty of those when a goal is scored. Food wise, they serve poutine, a Canadian stable. They also have some Indian cuisine such as samosas and hummus. They also have darts and pop-a-shot to get the competitive juices flowing plus they have karaoke and trivia on certain nights. I'm mostly here for NHL stuff though since that's where the fun it at; especially during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Plus if you're not a hockey fan (which is definitely weird...), you'll certainly become one when you watch a game here. Props to the bartenders and staff for dealing with the customers, especially Maple Leafs fans. The New York Knicks of the NHL, one day they'll figure it out.

Yelp
delicious food and a really nice chill bar. there's a bunch of pool tables and games to play. the hot dog was only $7 and came with tots. it was super interesting and had a bunch of flavors. I didn't get anything to drink but it's one of my friends favorite bars.

Yelp
So my friend comes in from out of town, he's into hockey, I google and find this place. We decided to go here for the rangers game. I have several chronic illnesses including gastroparesis. Basically that means my stomach digestion is paralyzed, I used to be on a feeding tube until I got a stomach pacemaker implanted into me that saved my life. I have some dietary restrictions and one of them is sugar. For that reason I bring Sprite Zero cans with me every where I go in my purses (it's like my ginger ale) I've never had an issue with ANYONE, ANYWHERE.. until this place. I walk into it and my friend is already there, he had got food and two beers. I was planning on getting food and vodka shot lot later but I just arrived so the bartender asked me what I wanted, I asked if they had Sprite Zero or any non sugar drinks. He said they did not, they only had "soda". I said "is it okay if I get my Sprite Zero can out of my purse and just get some ice then I'll order some stuff in a few mins?" I don't know if he heard me or if I misheard him but I thought he said "ya". I bring out my Sprite Zero can that's clearly closed and he says "absolutely not, No, no you can't drink that" and I'm like "what?" Thinking it's a joke or something and he just stares at me serious. I said "I can't have this?" And he replied "okay you can if you pay me $3 to open it" I said ..."okay". He grabbed the sprite and poured it into a cup of ice then threw it away, He was very rude about it& I felt uncomfortable. I totally understand from a bartenders POV, as my brother is a bartender for 15+ years, how it is. However he could have said it MUCH NICER, & I would have been happy to pay. Also If ALL I was going to do was drink the canned Sprite Zero I may have understood the issue but I also got an appetizer and 2 shots of vodka (even tho I wanted to leave after that, my friend wanted to stay). I had two other cans of Sprite Zero in my purse and before drinking I asked the other two bartenders about it & NO OTHER bartender had had issues with me drinking it & did not charge me. They said "don't worry about it" and I poured it myself. Again it wasn't really about PAYING to drink a canned Sprite Zero I already had, it was the way he said it. Just keep in mind people have chronic illnesses and do better in the future LOL with the reply from owner: so it's illegal to bring a can into any alcohol establishment but he was willing to lose your license for me giving him $3? That's a poor excuse. Also he didn't say anything about Mio, I asked if there was any other options. He was absolutely rude.

Yelp
Had been wanting to check out this place for a while, it was late Tuesday night so wanted to do a quick in and out. First time here following a pricey concert at Toyota and wanted to see the selection. Having worked in the industry myself..I get it but, me and my boyfriend shared one beer and dipped. I get a notification tonight that my amount increased, seeing a 6/7 tip was added for a drink that I only drank half of. Sorry I didn't have much to spare and will get told "maybe I shouldn't be at a bar then" or make a big deal about a few bucks, I mean I see both bartenders doing shots together, ignore me the remainder and then alter the amount. Cute ambiance!

Yelp
Dee, our waitress, was super sweet and gave us some great tips on what to order. I'd highly recommend coming here on Thursdays starting at 6 PM for steak nights. You can enjoy a reasonably priced juicy ribeye and if you're feeling adventurous you can stay for trivia as well. By far, this place is my favorite dive bar in Dallas. It is clean and reasonably priced!

Yelp
Came here with my wife. Got a few drinks and food. The staff were all very kind, very friendly place with a good atmosphere. We got wings and poutine which were fantastic, and pickle chips that we both loved. Would highly reccomend the Jerk rub wings. And dont forget to get yourself a Montucky! Will definitely go back!

Yelp
Loved this place! Had the deviled eggs and they were delicious. Fast service and I liked ordering the food on app then they bring it to your table. It was a chill Friday night when we went and had a great time.

Yelp
So I'm currently at maple leaf listening to the employees laugh and talk shit about how much my friends suck for being hungry at 12:07

Yelp
This is the go to place in all of Houston to enjoy hockey at any level. I have lived here for 10 years and will always spend my time here to watch my college hockey team.
google avatar

Amber D.

Yelp
Best bar to watch the Stanley cup! They have an awesome app to order what you need when it's super busy and it was super cool. Food there is so good, always get some poutine fries. Gravy fries are always a winner.
google avatar

Fit G.

Yelp
First visit here was good. The poutine was great. I don't think I've even bothered to order it anywhere since my last time in Canada so this was surprisingly good. The game room next to the bar was fun as well. I can see where other reviewers would mention that the bartenders were less than friendly, but they weren't outright rude, and I always give folks in the service industry a break in that respect. We'll definitely go back!
google avatar

Tonya B.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and always had great service. Rob, the bartender, was very nice and attentive. He had a very positive attitude and made us laugh all night. I highly recommend coming here and trying some of the food as well. The poutine was delish as well as the deviled eggs.

Caitlin T.

Yelp
Not many bars in Texas cater to hockey fans, so we swear by Maple Leaf Pub both during hockey season and the whole year round. Thank goodness the owners have made this haven to come watch almost any hockey game we want to watch. The bar is well stocked with your typical favorites and a good selection of local beers. The food is delicious. Wings are hot and come in several flavors that have all hit the spot. The burgers are perfectly cooked and big enough to split for two. I crave the poutine at all times--both the standard version and the butter chicken version they have on the menu right now. The Indian kick to the menu is a fun new take they've had for a couple years, but that may change so it's worth checking the online menu ahead of time if that's a reason you want to visit. Weekends are a lot of fun. There's a good mix of regular patrons, die-hard NHL fans, and first-time visitors at any given time, so you're bound to walk into an upbeat atmosphere.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
Koooroooo-kooo-kooo-kooo-kooo. Hey it's as close as it gets to being Canada here. Set your expectations right, it's not going to be haute cuisine here you hosers. The place is fun and the staff are all friendly. You can get a decent tap of Canadian or other beers that we in Canada commonly laugh at, but hey, take it or leave it. Watch a hockey game and play some air hockey. Feel some "home" and then take off eh . The sign above the facilities says "washroom", not "bathroom". Good enough for me. Oh you people overcooked my fries in the poutine! That's punishable by death in some parts of Quebec. Get it together or I'll write a letter of complaint and if you don't fix it... I'll write another letter of complaint damn it!!
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
Honestly, I probably spend more time here than anywhere else. I wouldn't give 5 year repeat business consistently if I didn't enjoy everything about this place. They are very good at giving a personal appreciation to their customers, especially the regulars. Feels like home every time I walk in.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
I guess we must have caught the staff on a bad day. The guy behind the bar, Rob(?), was about as friendly as a starved pitbull. Ordering with him seemed like a massive inconvenience to his chattering with a couple of regulars. We had a few beers which were fine and had the cheese curds (BEST EVER) and some wings (Not bad). Asking to have one of the TVs turned to the game we wanted to watch got a grouchy response too... and I may have gotten a grunt response when I thanked him for doing so. My wife (Canadian) hadn't been to the place in 10 years or so and said that the atmosphere was much less friendly and exciting than it was when she was last there. All in all, not a great impression for my first time there. Not sure we would go back, but damn... those cheese curds were the best I've ever eaten!
google avatar

Adrienne D.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the service was very friendly and attentive. Five stars all the way for the one server who seemed to be running the entire place and was incredibly kind. However, we drove all the way downtown for lunch on Saturday based on reviews and they had no food. Granted, they said they were slammed the night before during the playoff game. They opened for lunch like usual at noon and told us they had no kitchen staff so it would be about 20-minutes before they could even consider taking our order, and that they 'had very little food'. They only had a few items, and at most 2 servings of what little they had. They didn't even have french fries. Let me state for the record... tater-tot poutine is not a thing for a reason. Apparently the owner was 'going to bring some food by sometime later that day that they could cook' but there was no indication when that was going to happen so we had to cobble together meals with what scraps they had to offer. The taste was fair, but when you're scraping the bottom of the barrel (or in this case the bottom of the freezer) beggars can't be choosers. Will definitely give them another chance to live up to the hype since our complaints were most likely circumstantial and our server was exceptional, but don't plan on lunching there on days following large televised sporting events!
google avatar

Zara T.

Yelp
The best place to watch hockey in Houston!! Lots of TVs, dogs welcome inside, pretty good pub food. Definitely recommend getting there before the game starts - seats fill up fast!

Sean F.

Yelp
It's a great pub located in midtown, feels a bit cozy and isn't overly packed or loud with some interesting food options + great drink prices
google avatar

Vickie L.

Yelp
A super chill bar with games in the back. They have shooting games, giant cards, darts, pool, etc. The space is also huge. Their drink selection goes hard too. The highlight of the night was the food and being able to order from our table with a QR code. Big plus that there is a free parking lot attached.
google avatar

Chino W.

Yelp
Place is awesome. Drinks, pool, food, Thursday night steak nights. What more could you ask for. Everyone working is always friendly as well.
google avatar

Katharine L.

Yelp
This may be good for a bar, but don't come for poutine- they were out almost everything including fries, so we had to have poutine tater tots. Our lemon drop and chocolate martini came with a salt instead of sugar rum- just a terrible experience.
google avatar

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Drunk bartender....two orders of poutine to go....took 20 minutes before she realized she dropped it off at the wrong table. If you like a drunk server drinking on the job and have no real expectation of good service but want to watch a hockey game .... great place.

Hope K.

Yelp
My friends and I love maple leaf and come here a lot. Rob is always accommodating and loves to make my tequila picklebacks. One of the best bartenders ever
google avatar

Marcia M.

Yelp
Great outside space. If you want to watch hockey, this is the place to be. Friendly, positive staff and patrons. Fights only on the ice. Wear your favorite jersey.
google avatar

La'Trevia H.

Yelp
I was scoping for somewhere to watch Sunday Night Football (49ers v. Seahawks). I stumbled upon here. Wasn't a lot of people here and there was a private parking lot which was perfect because I was hanging out solo. I checked in through Yelp and redeemed a free shot of the day that was offered for checking it. It was a Jell-O shot, it was nice and strong. I ordered chips, queso and guacamole which was $10 which was all good. I ordered two vodka and tonics while watching the game! It was nice spot, there's arcade games and many TVs. SNF was on the projector and the basketball games and NHL games were on the smaller screens. I wouldn't mind coming back to test their happy hour.
google avatar

Raccoon R.

Yelp
Oh, holy crap, why are we not all drinking here all the time? it's not too loud for old ears and they carry the absolutely best Irish whiskey on the planet. The bartenders are the most personable on the planet. Sam and Rob will just get the booze delivered in an expedient manner but Crys and Deeauna will make sure that you know the life choices you are making drinking night after night in a hockey bar are totally acceptable. Seriously, it's a hidden gem of Houston nightlife. Get the recovery poutine. It is life-changing. And if you're reading a Yelp review of a midtown bar I think it's safe to assume some life changes are in order.

Michael T.

Yelp
If you want to take your dog to watch sports it's a fun place. Hockey is their specialty. The cook stopped someone from breaking into my car.
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
I went to the web site and started reading reviews. Weirdly, Olivia likes to post the One Star reviews on the Pubs main page. This is just for the laugh. I went scouting for a Playoff Bar for the Bruins next run at the Stanley Cup. Amanda was tending bar. Super sweet!!! All the other patrons were really welcoming. I tried the Buffalo Wings and tots. Excellent bar food. Olivia brought out my food and she was super nice too! See you at Maple Leaf Pub for the playoffs!!!
google avatar

Justin H.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this ice hockey bar out ever since I came to Houston. After the Astros game was rained out I decided to bring my date here. it was very spread out and a quiet monday night. they had all 3 NHL games tonight perfectly laid out across 3 TVs so I got my hockey fill. I look forward to coming back. There was alot of space to hang out on a slow night and nice to be able to watch hockey and talk with my friend. Mellow vibe.

Ruchika M.

Yelp
Giving 5 stars, especially for the bartender Deeauna. She's hands down the best bartender I've met in Houston.
google avatar

Emil D.

Yelp
Awesome Canadian pub in downtown Houston. Great place for cold beers and to watch games especially NHL games.
google avatar

Zach C.

Yelp
Such a great bar. I love watching hockey here. Great food. Good drinks. Friendly owners. The recovery poutine is amazing!!!!! Also the grilled cheese are really good. Burgers are huge. And they let people bring dogs! What could be better !!???

Yelp
Underrated hidden gem in midtown, cool place to spend time with friends. Has dart a pool table n much more...
google avatar

Timberly B.

Yelp
THURSDAY STEAK NIGHT.... comes with a salad and a spud. Better get here early, seating goes quickly because it's also trivia night and the steaks go quickly too! Drinks are strong, staff is great, what's not to love. Parking is good, if not it's in midtown you can walk. Also doggies are welcome.
google avatar

Carlos A.

Yelp
I have been here a few times for steak night and I have to say its one of the better venues for it. Great atmosphere, great craft beers and really good steaks. For guys the women tend to be especially friendly here for some reason. Bring your friends and have a great time whether its just steak night, staying for the trivia, or even trying out bingo. Biggest knock would be the parking but that's the same with just about anything in Midtown if you don't valet. Great place I would recommend trying out.

Axel S.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on my birthday and had a blast.completely the best night for guys will absolutely come back
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
I love coming here with my friends and family! The atmosphere is very relaxed and chill, which I love!! We often come on Thursday nights for trivia (and have even won once! $30 tab for another night)! Just this past weekend we stopped by on a Friday night to meet up some friends and it was pretty dead. Around 10, the bar lit up and they had karaoke! So much fun! The food here is awesome as well! The only vegetarian option is a grilled cheese but it's awesome! Also, I'm sure if you asked for some modifications on other items, they'd be happy to make them. Don't forget to check in on Yelp to get the free shot of the day!! We got Jell-O shots that were VERY strong! Will definitely be coming back to watch some hockey and play trivia! Maybe even sing a song or two on a Friday night ;)

Yelp
The Maple Leaf Pub is the only Canadian bar in town that I know of. While they're located in Midtown, where parking can be tricky, they actually have a small parking lot in the back. I went there on a Monday as I read in an article that they have happy hour all day on Monday on both food and drinks. When I asked them about happy hour, they didn't say they had any food specials. I guess the article was outdated. I ended up ordering a Molson (Canadian beer) and poutine. I'm a huge fan of poutine. If you've never had it, it's Canada's greatest culinary creation. Take some fries, smother them with gravy and cheese curds, and you have so much healthy goodness. Just kidding about the healthy part. They had a special version that's basically poutine plus a cheeseburger minus the buns. Poutine plus the kitchen sink so to speak. Super healthy. Just kidding. The poutine was good but it was lukewarm so that took it down a notch. Service was also slow. If you're into hockey, I'm sure it's a great spot to watch the game. I just wasn't impressed about what they have to offer on a regular night.

David T.

Yelp
It's a cold and rainy day--perfect for poutine. And the lamb poutine I just had was superb. My only complaint is that I wish they would upgrade their furniture and other visuals. Now it tastes better than it looks
google avatar

Yuisa M.

Yelp
It's a cozy neighborhood bar type of feeling when you walk in, especially for one in Midtown. I absolutely recommend this place as a wonderful Friday hangout for karaoke and drinks, whether it be after a Stros or Rockets game or looking for a friendly place after a hard day's work. Speaking of friendly...they allow a man's best friend to hang out, too!
google avatar

Yelp
Now the theory goes that if you go to a bar where everybody knows your name, you're not living out Cheers, you're just an alcoholic. Not true at Maple Leaf Pub. There are so many great things about Maple Leaf Pub, which you need to know about and experience for yourself. I am really fond of the bar owners as they are really nice decent people. Yeah, Olivia is "edgy" and there's talk about Canada all the time, but hey, it's called Maple Leaf Pub, not Texas Bar Lovers Only. You get the impression they really love their coworkers, the patrons, and just doing what they do. What's fun about Maple Leaf is that, because of Olivia and her husband, it is not a pretentious bar at all. You can go there and order a Shirley Temple or soda and not have a bar tender blink an eye at you. Hey, you want water with that jack and coke, sure. They pretty much are there to entertain you and not shoot you down, if you're not a big drinker. My favorites are Bingo Nights, which during the summer are on Mondays, but will change, once Football season starts. Sometimes the prizes are cheesy, other times they are really nice, but the main prize is steak night. Lately, they've brought in a tasty food truck van on Monday too. I hope they keep it up, as it's tasty too and deserving its own review. As for Maple Leaf food... Oh, I love their steak. The asparagus, baked potato, and steak were delish. Give them the extra two for the Asparagus. Yes ASPARAGUS. Eat some vegetables in between your beer. It's tasty and you can fight off a beer belly. Steak Night is on Geeks who Drink Night, on Thursday. I went to my first Geeks who Drink Night, recently and had a lot of fun, even though I was pretty terrible at the game. My BF and I came in at last place. Not joking at all. I mean SUPER LAST place. However, I did have a lot of fun. There are regulars at Maple Leaf Pub, especially during Bingo and if you tend to have an extrovert type of personality, Olivia and others will remember your name. I mean, if you go in trying to be all super cool, you won't fit in. Again, not a pretentious crowd. I tend to be quieter and enjoy observing and just talking to my party, but the regulars, have always treated me with respect or given a respectful nod. I've never felt intimidated and I think those that do, tend to be extroverts fighting for attention. I don't think you can win if you try to do that. There can only be one class clown and it probably isn't you. However the four stars are due to two reasons, one minor, one major. Minor? I'm not in love with their Frito Pie. It could use some work. I love Frito Pie too. Places without good Frito Pie and French Fries kill me. As for the major, I recall seeing reviews where people were just ignored. I was like, "What? At Maple Leaf Pub? No way!" All of the bar tenders are really good. However, this past Geeks Who Drink Night, the bartender lady made it a point to ignore us. I've never seen her before and I was not happy at all. I know you saw us lady! I was going to pull a major tab too, but NO. She was all, boring table, that ordered soda and water. Lady, I like to switch things up a bit. Now, if you encounter this lady, just go straight to the bar, have a bar tender serve you, ignore her. Don't let that ruin your impression of this place as the customer service is great. I don't know what her deal was, but you shouldn't let that fool you. I've been here several times and had one bad experience, came back, had another great experience. Nine out of ten good experiences isn't bad at all. My concern is that if someone is new and they get that service they'll leave and never know how much fun this place can be. If you're not satisfied the first time, give it another shot. It really is worth it. And maybe ask them to play the Cheers theme song in the background. I may start singing that when I go there. Oh and P.S. the bathrooms are always clean. VERY IMPORTANT. P.P.S. Don't you want to go to a place where people know people are all the same? And everybody knows your name? Yes? Then get to Maple Leaf Pub, already.

Yelp
Yeah...this place...um...ummm...yeah. This place. Mixed review of the really awesome server, and a downright rude server. We pop in. I'm with my kid. It takes awhile but I order a beer, him he gets a water. That was from the not so hot server. We're hungry. Takes awhile but when the not so hot dude gets near our table my kids raises his hand up to get his attention. The dude says to my kid... "Don't wave me down, that's not the way to get my attention. I'll make my way around". I was kinda like huh!?! We've been sitting here for awhile. My beers empty, you're slow, and my kids just a kid. No need to be rude. So then I wonders...Do I tell him to F off now Or should I wait until I'm on yelp and I can tell them there. So anyway we order some food. We got the poutine! I have this before and it can be yum. This was meh. But the other dude who was a really awesome server kinda took over and was pleasant and diligent. Ya know...we all have an off night. I'll try one more time and let ya know how it goes. For now...Meh!

Yelp
I love this place! Super laid back and chill especially if you want to watch a game or enjoy karaoke. The food is delicious and Canadian af and has something a little different which is nice bc I get sick of the same bar food. I love the staff, always friendly and attentive! Awesome music, cool vibe, good food, and the atmosphere is amazing! I would recommend going here for a game or to have a chill drink and watch the city life!

Yelp
Myself and friends visited Houston for my bday. Found this place by happenstance, loved the low-key environment. We ended up going back every night on our way by. Staff is down to earth, gives customers respect when respect is given to them. And also helped make my Bday a proper dirty 30.

Yelp
Canadian pub... Eh? This is one really ghetto pub. Walked in and it was weird. Not sure if everyone there are Canadians? If you check in on yelp its free shot. It's interesting to know that this pub exist because that means you can get Canadian beer etc. Like Molson..... Well this is really a one time visit. Won't go back. -------- I guess I need to clarify with the owner of this pub, Olivia. First off let me talk about myself. I am a Canadian. Born and Raised. I am sorry you did not understand the Eh??? here. Yes its only Eastern part of Canada that uses Eh a lot and where I am from the metropolitan city Vancouver, we do not use Eh. So you are not from the Canadian East... ok. Olivia not sure if you have to been to west of Canada either but things have changed. If you go to any pub either in Calgary or Vancouver or just west of Canada, it doesn't look like your pub. Its very lively, hip and clean. Canada is no longer in old style wood décor look anymore (for more look at some of the pubs I have been to in terms of décor) . Maybe 30 years ago? Canada has grown so modern that is why in the news you hear about housing prices and people demolishing and rebuilding and loosing the old look. I am serious! Canada has changed to very modern. So when I say your pub is ghetto, I am coming from the Canadian context. It would be nice for you to see what most Canadian pub are like. So walked in and the floor was sticky and table was sticky. We didn't get much service maybe the way we dressed and the way we talked. Also it was very ghetto and run down (this is again comparing what a Canadian pub would look like in Vancouver, Quebec, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto etc. Olivia sorry if you don't know where those places are. Yes you have Hockey and Canada flags and etc everywhere. But this is so stereotypical of what you imagine a Canadian pub would look like. I have been to Molson plant and went into the Molson pub (real Canadian one) and it doesn't even look like what your pub looks like. Sorry Olivia things have changed in Canadian context. Maybe back 40 years before my time, Canadian pub looks like that. When I heard there is a Canadian pub in Houston, I was excited thinking its the Canadian atmosphere. I was disappointed. Olivia you do not have to insult my intelligence here. I am speaking from what is back home. I do understand where you are coming from. You have the Canadian beer but you don't have the Canadian décor, the Canadian pub ambiance and Canadian chill service. I have noticed most of your customers are not Canadian. So it's like me not able to make comment of a Irish pub but I am a real Canadian. Also your pub is located in midtown and few blocks (Canadian blocks - if you know what I mean) in, the building are all very nice and new and it makes yours a bit older looking and run down. Maybe its the dark wood look. Olivia, just to let you know Canadian are not only into lumber jack. Please look at my other reviews to see what is a Canadian pub and how the décor looks like. Also, Olivia on your comment about my grammar, Yelp is not a English class school website. When I say ghetto in Canadian context may be different in your context. Please make a trip to Canada and you will know what I am talking about. I am just coming from what a Canadian would say.
