"Let’s get this out of the way: Yes, Marisol is in the Museum of Contemporary Art. Yes, the last time we got excited about museum food it was astronaut ice cream from the Museum of Science and Industry gift shop, and we were 10 years old. But Marisol serves such delicious and interesting dishes that its location is irrelevant. You should come here even if you’re not interested in looking at art or stocking up at the gift shop. Marisol doesn’t have its own separate entrance. So you’ll pass art installations and a help desk on your way to the restaurant - just like a group of eighth graders on a field trip probably did a couple of hours earlier. Like the rest of the MCA, the restaurant feels sleek and modern, and there’s a big, colorful mural, plus some line drawings on the walls. But despite these reminders of where you are, Marisol still feels like its own entity. The American food here is seasonal, with dishes and their preparations changing often. But some things are so good we hope they never leave the menu. For example, the sunflower hummus. This version succeeds where other non-chickpea hummuses we’ve tried lately - made with things like beets, peas, and avocados - have failed. It’s creamy, and blended with oregano and artichokes for a unique and complex flavor. The shrimp and octopus small plates are hits, too. Both look simple, but have components that keep them interesting: the shrimp is served with bits of apple and walnut that add texture and sweetness, and the charred octopus comes with housemade saffron potato chips we’d be happy to eat on our couches at home. While the small plates and appetizers keep things on the lighter side, the pastas and entrees here are heavier - but not excessively so. The bucatini with bresaola, truffles, and butter is rich, and the roasted half chicken that comes with masa dumplings and pâté-topped toast isn’t exactly light. But both dishes taste balanced and delicious, and ultimately, neither of them really weighs you down. The average Midwesterner will certainly be unfazed. The fact that Marisol is in the MCA, and in a neighborhood typically filled with tourists, might discourage you from coming here. Don’t let it. Marisol is a great restaurant in its own right - not just great by museum-restaurant standards - and absolutely worth a visit. Permission slip not required." - Adrian Kane

The Atmosphere was not the best. We were seated close to the door with the table half on a brick wall and half on a window. I felt crowded. There were empty tables toward the back that were not as crowded. The food was overpriced. The steak was not juicy it was on the dry side. I ordered lamb fully cooked and when I got the plate the first time it was still rare inside. They took the plate and brought back the same plate with the same lamb and sides. They had barely cooked the lamb as it was still med-rare inside. They took the plate back a second time. They brought it back a third time with the same plate and cut up lamb and side that had been on there at this point it seemed ridiculous that I had sent this same plate back. I was hungry and my friend had already tried to wait to eat his food as I was waiting on mine to be fixed. The lamb this time was a medium well. I just ate it this time. I didn’t appreciate the server trying to make an excuse by saying “sometimes it’s hard for them to tell if it’s well done because of the bone.” This is supposed to be a 5 star fine dinning restaurant and to me it seems that they should know how to fully cook meat. It is unacceptable to make excuses for poorly served food. There is a thing called a meat thermometer. I will definitely not go back.

Excellent service! Went for our anniversary and was far from disappointed. The focaccia bread was the best we ever had, and when we told them about it, they gave us half a wheel of it to take home. I had trout and my wife had salmon and those dishes were fantastic. Highly recommended for having an intimate evening with your loved one.

Google
The food was excellent, and in the right environment the price would make sense. However, the restaurant did not feel clean. The ceiling tiles were a mess, the service was friendly but way too casual for 5 star food. Dinner for two was just shy of $300 and we only had one cocktail and no wine. Apps, soup and entree and 1 drink each the bill was $300. Atmosphere fell more like a diner.

Google
This place deserves a 10!!! The food is absolutely delicious!!! I had the lambchops and my friend had the duck. We also had appetizers. The shrimp and some type of pasta, which were both amazing. There was a soup that was absolutely delicious!!! The service was great and the server described everything in detail. We wanted to try everything! It's really nice in the inside. It's worth every penny! We will be back! O yea dessert and the Lemon drop was great too!

Google
This meal was a special anniversary dinner. Everything was exquisitely prepared, including the bass I had for dinner and the duck which my spouse enjoyed. I enjoyed the tomato pie appetizer and my husband had the sausage appetizer. Both were flavorful and balanced. The tomato pie may have been the best tomato pie I have ever had. The service was top notch - not overbearing but not ignored. Great recommendations from the server.

Google
My boyfriend made us reservations for my birthday. The food and presentation was absolutely amazing! Our waiter was very knowledgeable of very dish and gave descriptive details of the menu and the nightly specials. I had the sautéed Trout and my boyfriend had the blackened salmon, we got the crab cake and cavatelli lobster dish for our appetizers, and we also split the fried goat cheese salad. Highly recommend the salad. The goat cheese, candied walnuts and apples meshed well for the perfect salad. The host came across a bit stand offish and the entranced of the restaurant seemed a little dated (a table with all the menus just tossed on the table). Reservations are required but I’d say this place is worth every penny.

Google
Overall dining experience was very good. Service was responsive and new the menu well. Good quality was high and tasted excellent. I had the salmon pate for app and osibuco for entree. Both were very nice, I had the opportunity to try the house sausage app. Would highly recommend that if you are a sausage fan. It was excellent. Decor was a bit dark as prior reviewers noted and seating a bit tight for robust customers. Look forward to returning to try the Salmon Wellington, sold out this evening. 11/2018 Visit Still love this place, had a wonderful dinner and experience with my son and good buddy this evening.

Google
We enjoyed watching the chefs prepare our meals from the dining room. Wonderful appetizers, great selection of wine by the bottle. I ordered the duck, very crispy skin but beautifully cooked meat. The staff was very attentive keeping our glasses full and providing us with a variety of fresh breads. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable on all the menu offerings.

Yelp
Entering Marisol is akin to stepping into a sanctuary where culinary mastery meets genuine hospitality. It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience that transcends mere dining. The staff at Marisol don't just serve you; they embrace you as if welcoming you into their own home. There's an ease in their demeanor, a familiarity that harks back to long-standing friendships. Yet, amidst this camaraderie, they effortlessly maintain the grace and refinement expected of a fine dining establishment. The cuisine at Marisol is a celebration of French-inspired flavors, a symphony of both timeless classics and innovative creations crafted with the freshest of ingredients. For over two decades, they've perfected their art, curating a menu that seamlessly blends tradition with innovation. For pescatarians like myself, Marisol won't disappoint. A glance at the menu reveals a bounty of options, each more tantalizing than the last. From lobster gnocchi to briny oysters to tender mahi and salmon, every dish is expertly prepared and presented with flare. The caesar salad with flash-fried oysters is a revelation in itself, a marriage of crisp freshness and indulgent decadence. The oysters, fried to golden perfection, yield beneath the crunch to reveal tender, briny goodness, perfectly complemented by the house-made dressing with its subtle, tangy creaminess. But the true stars of the show are the main courses - the crab-stuffed salmon and the mahi, each tender and flaky, complemented perfectly by beautiful sauces. Generous portions are sure to satisfy everyone. For your next date night, take it from me and visit Marisol. You'll be talking about the experience long after.

Yelp
I've been sitting on writing this review for awhile, probably longer than I should, but I still remember the evening pretty well and recently came across the photos that I had yet to post, so here goes nothing! But that is kind of the point, a restaurant like Marisol should leave you anxious to go home and tell others about what a great eating experience you had. In my case, while the food overall was good, I wasn't taken aback by anything, and at this price point, I feel that I should have been. Things started off really well, the server was eager to explain the restaurant and menu, and stayed very attentive throughout. Honestly, for my taste, overly attentive. But it's not a big place, and also wasn't very busy, so it makes sense he would have stayed vigilant with us. After ordering drinks, we received a small starter of goat cheese on crostini with some bruschetta, a nice way to kick things off. Then, one of the highlights, the basket of incredible breads was presented to us. If he had left the basket at the table, we probably would have run through it all, but we did have a few pieces with butter, that were beyond excellent. The appetizer course was fantastic. Flash fried buttermilk shrimp, house made gravlax, tomato pie, cavatelli, and a duck special. The tomato pie, I honestly wish i could have ordered a larger slice for my entrée, because I could eat that every day. The gravlax was kind of like eating lox, and I dug the texture with the crispy bread and shmear. The shrimp were plump, but given the price, nothing about them set them apart from fried shrimp elsewhere. The duck.. I said earlier about the tomato pie, maybe just give me the duck and tomato pie for an entrée, I would have been happy. For my main, i got the blackened NC mountain trout, and like others at my table, this is where the meal started to fall flat. The trout just didn't set itself apart in any way, other than the fish being clearly fresh. The blackening didn't add much flavor, nor did the sauce that it came with. For this being the supposed centerpiece of our experience, it was disappointing. I found myself wishing I got the duck breast that someone else had. For dessert, we shared the vanilla bean creme brulee and the bread pudding. The crème brûlée was well executed, which is no ordinary feat, so big props for that. The bread pudding however was the total opposite. I have never really encountered dry bread pudding before, but this was it. Even though it was covered in chocolate sauce (would have just liked a dish of that) and ice cream, still somehow dry to the bone. I was surprised the waiter didn't ask about it, given it was barely touched by all of us, and he had been so attentive to everything else. In the end, for the money, I don't know that I would return. As I said earlier, at this price point, it kind of needs to be great from top to bottom. Some of it was, but the most important part was kind of pedestrian. I could definitely see myself coming back for drinks and apps though!

Yelp
My Elite crew and I recently decided to check out Marisol near the Adam's Farm area of Greensboro. This restaurant has been around since the 90s, so it must be doing something right and we wanted to check it out for ourselves. With it being everyone's first time there the waiter was quite attentive and described the entire menu to us in great detail.  For drinks my best friend and I ordered a bottle of wine to split. We were struggling to decide until our waiter swayed us with the Vouvray. Although it was slightly sweet, it didn't bother us and complimented the meal well. The chef surprised us with an amuse-bouche that was a yummy little goat cheese bruschetta. Then I was delighted to see our waiter approach us with a plentiful basket of bread. I opted for the focaccia, and it was incredible. The texture was so soft and spongy with a slight sweetness. I could have eaten so many slices, but we decided to share some apps instead. For appetizers we ordered the flash fried buttermilk shrimp, house made gravlax, Marisol's tomato pie, house made cavatelli, and a duck special not listed on the menu. My favorites were the cavatelli and the tomato pie. Although the house made cavatelli was in a lobster stock cream sauce, it was still surprisingly light. I loved the richness and depth of the tomato pie. The gravlax reminded me of a deconstructed lox bagel except with crackers instead of bread. We each got salads next. I opted to split the caesar with fried oysters with my bestie. The oysters were cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the added crunch of the toasted pine nuts and the slight spiciness from the cayenne pepper croutons and horseradish caesar dressing. For my entree I ordered the pan seared & roasted dotted rose snapper. I've gotta say this is where the experience began to fall apart a little bit for me. I was not super impressed by the snapper. Although a delicious-sounding caper parsley lemon vinaigrette is listed with it on the menu, it was almost like they forgot to put it on the place. This led the fish to be dry, tough and overcooked. I will say the accompanying scallop was delicious, soft, and very well done. It's disappointing when your main dish falls flat. We decided to end the evening by sharing the vanilla bean creme brulee and the bread pudding du jour. The creme brulee was the clear winner. It was beautifully caramelized on the top and creamy on the inside. The bread pudding, however, was pretty dry. I find that impressive considering it was covered in ice cream and dark chocolate sauce. The ice cream was tasty but the bread pudding itself was just layers of dryness with nothing creating cohesion or holding it together. Overall, we enjoyed our first experience at Marisol. I will order some different things next time for sure.

Yelp
Service 5/5 Overall food (taste & price) 3/5 Atmosphere 3.5/5 Drinks 4/5 (they have a heavy hand lol) Marisol's is definitely a fine dining experience. I read online how great this place was so I had to check it out myself! However, the atmosphere is catered more towards an older, retired crowd. Personally, the food was overpriced as every meal had something lacking and wasn't memorable. The drink was good but for $18 I expected better quality liquor. Would I return? Probably not. Appetizers: * Flash Fried Buttermilk Shrimp w/spicy sweet chili sauce * House Made Za'atar Pork Sausage w/collard greens & Carolina gold rice gratin (on the menu for 24 years!) Entree: * Twice Roasted Crispy Duck w/raspberry red wine gastrique * Scottish Salmon Wellington w/pesto white wine lobster stock cream Drink: * classic cosmo

Yelp
When we want to go have a nice date night, Marisol and heir incredible staff pop right into our heads! Start off with an Amuse Bouche followed by an excellent bread basket. Last time we had the Lamb Chops and they did not disappoint! Fancy and Fine food and libations!

Patty C.

Yelp
Fine dining at its best. Wine menu is superb. Service unparalleled. Menu is highly unexpected. Please use this for special occasions and important events.

Deborah C.

Yelp
Laughed the whole time as the experience was truly unique. Food was okay, service was okay and ambiance was zero.

Tom M.

Yelp
Simply delicious!! A top 5 restaurant in North Carolina. Doesn't get much better. Food, Service, Ambiance is terrific!!!!

Dianne S.

Yelp
The food, the servers, the atmosphere is wonderful! I highly recommend this place from a foodies point of view.

Zach G.

Yelp
Very expensive, well cooked food that seems like a menu from around 2002. Median age in there had to be around 70. Service apparently used to be one of the best parts but we were unimpressed. There was nothing wrong with it, but there's better, more creative and more contemporary fine dining available in the area.

Barry L.

Yelp
Scott and the wait staff are awesome, just as the food is! Trina rocks the lemon drops. If the sausage is on the app menu it's a must have!

Ken C.

Yelp
Solid 4.5 Nice upscale approach to dinner Service team is friendly and very polished Local sausage appetizer was great Salmon special was even better Tad pricey on wine by the glass options

Melissa L.

Yelp
Loved the service here. The appetizers were delish. The tuna and shrimp were yummy. The meatballs with truffle sauce was also delicious. I loved the cherry bread pudding dessert. Quite possible one of the best bread puddings I've ever had. The espresso martini was the yummiest.

Christina L.

Yelp
Way overpriced, The waiter was a snob and I believe he added his tip to our bill and did not tell me, I didnt realize it until after the charge went through. The food was good, but the prices were unreasonable. I do not consider this place to be fine dining. The atmosphere was nice, but seriously, the prices are unjustifiable.

Kirk S.

Yelp
Fabulous restaurant. Food is off the chart. Everything is great. Specials are unique and wonderful. Service is from true professionals, people that do this as professionals. And they have been there many years. Wine list is excellent and easily recognizable wines so you know what you are getting. Bread is wonderful. Drinks are good. I don't know of anything this restaurant could do better. Is on the expensive side but for what you get it's a good value. This restaurant is as good as anywhere I have ever been in anywhere.

David J.

Yelp
I have heard a lot about this place that the food was really good , and it was . The staff made it not worth the expense . Our waiter Scott was the rudest server that I have ever had . I would recommend that if you get him as a server ask for someone else . I will never be back.

Steve H.

Yelp
One star speaks for itself. Poor quality. Not interested in coming back. I suggest a different restaurant

Howard F.

Yelp
My wife and I went there last Friday night and the food and service was incredible. It goes without saying we have dined there numerous times and the service has always been excellent. My wife got the scallops appetizer and said it was the one of the best things she has even eaten anywhere. We both got fish dishes for our main course. She got the mahi mahi and I got the salmon. Both dishes were excellent

Fred B.

Yelp
This fine, upscale restaurant flies under the radar in Greensboro for some reason - maybe it's the location, or the eclectic menu, or the pricing. Probably a little bit of all, but location and price probably lead. It is expensive, especially by Greensboro standards, but I've never had a meal here that I though was not worth the cost, and like most upscale restaurants, your drink choices drive the price - teetotalers are so lucky, not happy, just lucky. It is a small place, with some bar space in a room separate from the dining area. I would definitely suggest reservations here, you very well may be able to walk in, but the seating might suffer. The staff here is polished, articulate, and knows the menu, if fact they'll recite it for you. This is never a large menu, but it is definitely an interesting one, driven by availability and season, and is raised to another level by the creativity of the kitchen staff, who are prominently on display. From the pre-appetizers, thru the salads, thru the entrees, and dessert, if you've saved room, this menu will satisfy, surprise, and bring you back. I am a lover of duck, so I will tend to gravitate there, but beef, lamb, seafood, and even pork, are perfectly prepared, and beautifully plated. This is a special occasion, destination restaurant, which always keeps it interesting and varied. Think about it, Adams Farm is really not all that far.

Lori D.

Yelp
Just wonderful and delicious! A wonderful anniversary dinner! Sweet and attentive hosts!

Kelsey T.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had outside of my familiar surroundings in New York! I was impressed by the range of in-house preserves and sauces. Definitely an expansive confluence of European cuisine mixed with local ingredients.

Gail C.

Yelp
I am full! The bread, the cocktails were perfect!! Loved the Fried lobster. It melted in my mouth. The gnocchi was good when grabbing a fork full of gnocchi, cheese , crab and herbs- not so good when eating any one of those items separately. The dish felt like it was at war with each other. I could have died after eating my curry pumpkin soup. Simply heavenly. However by the time I got to my $38.00 entrée I was so stuffed, I ate only two bites. Those two bites of my duck were unimpressive. Nothing special and a bit dry. Our service was topnotch inspite of a few glitches with the meal, I can't wait to spend another $195.00 for dinner for two again. This is my favorite restaurant in Guilford County. This is a upscale restaurant with a hometown feel. Try it. Just bring your entire pay check!

Stella H.

Yelp
I had heard great things about this restaurant but was underwhelmed. Fish was, well fishy and hard to eat. Gnocchi was OK. A bit over cooked. Muscles were so so, but the broth was great and the 3 small crispy bread slices were delish soaking it up. The lemon drop martini was good, but I've ha better. I think they've rested on their laurels and their reputation for awhile. Maybe they need totes harder. After all, it's been several years since they opened and had all the accolades.

Punita O.

Yelp
Great food . Great service, nice atmosphere. Food is really fresh and good test. I am vegetarian they made all my dishes according to that . Very very impressed.

Vasilios N.

Yelp
Fantastic service (Scott) and some of the best food I've had in a very long time- thank you chef! -Billy & Maria (NY)

Raihan A.

Yelp
The 3.5 star food was served with fresh cracked black peppercorns and a high dosage of pretentiousness...in a Greensboro stripmall. The chicken livers were over salted, the fried goat cheese salad was above average, and the beef bourguignon was average...none of these nor the items my party ordered, warranted the snooty attitude.

Patrick D.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner there for the first time this Wednesday. Being a lifetime resident of Greensboro and having tried most of the better restaurants we concluded that, hands down, there is none better in Greensboro. The service, food and staff exceeded expectations at all levels. So forget about the hype concerning " downtown" venues, make the short drive to enjoy great dining and a meal worth your appetite. Again: none better here.

Kathy M.

Yelp
This is truly a fabulous restaurant! Marisol is high quality everthing; selection of food, the preparation, the staff, the setting. A must-go if at all near Greensboro/High Point area. We had a lovely night dining and sipping.

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding service. Our waitress has an outstanding rote memory - the way she was able to recite the long list of specials was incredible. We went for the full Monty and enjoyed a 5 course meal complimented with drinks and wine. The menu selections were innovative and delectable. The herbs, spices, and accoutrements used in each dish to realize the full flavor experience of the main food item ( fish, liver, salad...) was incredible. This was not a meal but a flavor experience. Our dining adventure lasted 3 hours! Hats off to the chefs, waitstaff, and manager for an amazing evening!

Andrew C.

Yelp
Hands down the best meal I have had in this area. Highlights to try: Gnocchi, Escargot, Lobster and Crab Bisque. We will be making many return trips, excellent atmosphere, service snd cuisine.

Harrison H.

Yelp
The only true five star restaurant in Greensboro! From the moment you walk in the staff makes you feel like family. The set it is rather small but you can see and hear everything in the kitchen. The staff truly understands what service is. I even got up to use the rest room and came back to my napkin folded over the arm of my chair. When you come here it will be expensive, however you are not just paying for a plate of food. You are paying for a amazing experience. Onto the food. We started with the gnocchi which was French in style, absolutely amazing. After that it was onto a very generous bowl of crab and lobster bisque (ordered two should have just shared one). For our entree my girlfriend had the half duck and I had the lamb. All I can say is I was arguing over whether this food was better than some restaurants in NYC and DC. Dessert was amazing and set me into my wine and good coma perfectly. Highly highly highly recommended!

Wendy B.

Yelp
Fantastic! Fresh and imaginative menu. Expertly prepared. This is my new favorite restaurant. We had the foie gras appetizer and special halibut entree with lump crab. Sauces were excellent. Will be back again this week!

Jina J.

Yelp
What a gem! Walked in not expecting much and it may have been one of the best meals I've ever had. Great service. Small space so make reservations

brice b.

Yelp
Nice place and great staff. I expected a pretty high quality meal but got "ok" food but nothing special. This place given the fact they have no competition but several times a year when the furniture market is happening should up their game. They could be amazing by focusing on a few really great entrées and skipping the frozen packaged crap that any resto can warm up. Service was excellent and the wine list is impressive. Surprisingly the prices were also really high compared to almost any place I've been even NYC. $32 for what appeared to be frozen fish patties instead of flounder is just bad business. The sad story of my dining adventures is another restaurant that is pretending to be real but actually serving warmed up crap and calling it fine dining.

Stephen W.

Yelp
Impressive specials list. I tried the ostrich with port wine and blue cheese reduction. Best appetizer (according to the 13 person table) the rock shrimp. Decent service and nice atmosphere. Good wine list. Pricy for what they offer.

Rich B.

Yelp
Fine dining in the Gate City. Initially, I was frustrated and maybe a bit annoyed at a few things... - They were playing some sort of satellite radio and there were frequent DJ breaks - Wine list is handed to me and drink orders are being taken before we see a menu (I'll order wine, but what are we eating? Fish? Pork? Lamb? Hot dogs?) - Menu is interesting and then waitstaff rattles off 5 appetizer specials and another 5 main course specials. That's great that they are so flexible and that the menu changes every night, but good lord... I can't keep track of all the things you told me. Print it out. Zillions of restaurants do that. Get a chalk board and write it out. Something. - The main courses were huge portion-wise. This is why we didn't order dessert. So, there you go. I was initially very frustrated with this place but every damn thing we ate was delicious. And the staff treated us as if we were family. And it was warm and inviting and there are cute dog portraits on the murals in the bar area. They've apparently been running Marisol in this very interesting way (you see the actual menu very late in the game) for 15+ years and I don't think they will change... but good golly. A few tweaks and this place would be stellar. Oh, it's located way out High Point Road. If you are staying at Grandover (as we were) it's pretty close.

Roy S.

Yelp
Marisol is my favorite restaurant in Greensboro BY FAR. The only recommendation I'd make is to ask for Heather as your server. She is fantastic and really adds to the experience of having dinner in this special restaurant. Unfortunately the gentleman that is the other server REALLY fails by comparison. He is dry, judgmental and rude. The food is still great but he makes you feel bad for being a customer. The simple fix is ask for Heather and she will take outstanding care of you.

Hollie T.

Yelp
Terrible service and condescending bartender because of our casual attire on a Friday night. We came in as young professionals with money to spend and we were looked down upon and belittled and treated like children because we were in our late 20's and not our 60's.

Sara M.

Yelp
It's a pleasantly yet sometimes pushy four course restaurant, a need to be somewhere they are not, but to no fault of their own. It is not busy enough to feel as though you aren't being watched at times if you don't pick a peak time for dining. Yet at peak times it is a hit or miss to know whether you can get in and how your service will differ greatly from the latter. It is not familiar enough to understand if you aren't a local, as most employees are, and this area is a special breed. It is not appeasing on the outside, don't be alarmed upon parking: it is a different world when inside. Five star dining experience is there, the food is delectable. And if you don't agree, ask and you shall receive, but that is at your own risk anywhere including fast food chains. In the end, always seems to leave you with a unique good and never quite bad at that much dining experience. Not cheap, but not NY or LA. In business for I would have to guess at least 15 years; a forgotten, or hidden, or just too precious of a gem? Quite a little conundrum. Do experience for yourself, if only for a small bite and cocktail; to each their own. Still recommended, but I do like to be honest.

Priscilla H.

Yelp
Small restaurant, good food. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Heads up: we went on a Saturday night and you MUST have a reservation or you won't get a table. The restaurant is quite small but the dining experience alone was great. Overall, we had great laughs and shared some good food. Now, for the price you pay (which was quite high) the food was just decent. Nothing too crazy about. My boyfriend got a lamb dish and I got a salad. We didn't order wine or dessert (we had to go home to cut cake later that night) and our bill came to be $79! Now let me tell you, his lamb was like an appetizer portion and my salad was like a lunch portion! I guess I can't really complain, we are paying for the experience. When coming to Marisol, expect to spit out at least $50 per person. But the experience overall was a good one for us!

Teresa C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time spent here. I had a cup of soup, salad, and a wonderful chocolate desert which was my favorite. My salad was awesome too. My server was excellent. Yes it's a little bit more money but I felt welcome from the moment I stepped inside till I left. I will look forward when I'm in the area to dine here again.

Care N.

Yelp
I really just want to track my own impressions and not write any fancy reviews. Dinner here is expensive and the quality is extremely high. I had the halibut and a $14 glass of Prosecco to match. Two stalks of asparagus and a tablespoon of sweet potato mash. A sausage appetizer was good and the wedge salad had a dressing with latent spice that required a piece of bread to quench. Everything was fresh and tasty; nothing over-the-top wowed me. Unfortunately, I seem to be hard to impress; I doubt we will ever make it back unless someone else is paying.

Yelp
Meh. That's the word yelp assigns to a rating of 2 stars and the word that describes Marisol perfectly. The establishment came highly recommended and was described as "a slice of NYC fine dining in the triad". However, it is more like a slice of NYC pretentiousness. Seeing the place from the street you might at first glance think you've arrived at the wrong place. Located in a small strip mall off High Point Rd, the location hardly seems appropriate for a restaurant of this supposed caliber. The restaurant itself is a decent size and nicely decorated with a view of the kitchen where one executive chef and two line chefs manned the kitchen. The wait staff was nicely presented and the atmosphere was pleasant. As I watched the chefs plating food on the counter under four heats lamps I was immediately reminded of two things - First, the way chefs plate when there is 30s left on the clock a la "Chopped " and second, Anthony Bourdain's loud cry for "nothing sits under the hot lamps tonight, nothing!". I was happily stunned when presented with an amuse-bouche, potato chowder with bacon and balsamic reduction that was quite delicious. This gracious first gesture immediately turned sour because the wait staffed failed to inquire if anyone was vegetarian and almost 1/4 of the group was. The resulting scramble to come up with a replacement - a picked vegetable over more vegetable felt rushed and was a disappointment. The first sign that something was amiss came when the menus were not presented immediately. When the menu did come, it was glaringly obvious that the most important part - the entrees - were missing. The wait staff quickly chimed in to let us know that the majority of the menu was verbal and that it was the way that it had been done for last 15 years! Despite the positive aspects of a daily changing menu, the freshness, creativity, and originality, all that was overshadowed when it wasn't presented in a manner that can be easily consumed by the audience. Do you still listen to voicemails or has texting eclipsed that need? I thought for a moment that this was forgivable provided that the verbal menu was minimal. No such luck as there were 11 items on the menu described with any astonishing array of sides, garnishes and sauces. There were four starter specials, two salad specials, followed by 5 entrees, again with minimal vegetarian options. By the time the waiter had finished presenting the menu, the collective looks around the table clearly reflected its effectiveness. When ultimately ordering a meal, you refer to your entrée by its categorical name - "fish, beef, lamb, duck, soup, and salad", you might as well be on an airplane getting served out of plastic-ware. Did I mention the lack of vegetarian options and that something "special" had to be made. At one point a wait staff member presented us with two orders of mussels and proudly declared that one of them was bacon free. I looked at him quizzically and he realized that he tried to vegetarianize a meat dish by removing meat from meat. Fail. But how was the food? Hit or miss. The curried lobster bisque and gnocchi were highlights. The rock shrimp as other have pointed out was decent but no better than the boom boom shrimp at Bonefish Grill. The mussels were small and dry as well and hardly compares to the same dish at Print Works bistro. The duck meat was dry and the skin too oily. The trout was dry. The sea bass was good but was ruined by the odd white sauce not appropriate for the dish. The vegetarian plate a mixture of vegetables, eggplant, and squash was bland and uninspired. The bread was cold. Do you notice a pattern of things being dry? I wonder if hot lamps have anything to do with that. As we paid for our meal, one of the dinner guests asked a very poignant question. How do we even know the bill is right when we were never told any prices? While it can be said that if you need to ask the price then you shouldn't be eating here in the first place, this isn't NYC and while Marisol can be described as the best fine dining establishment in Greensboro, it also under promises and under delivers. I will not be returning.

Yelp
We were so impressed! Definitely our first "find" ever in that area - great food, great service and as a vegetarian, I really appreciated the extra effort the chef made to make my meal as yummy and interesting as the "regular" meals! Everything was delicious! The road construction made it slightly tricky to get into the restaurant parking lot, but I'm assuming that will be corrected soon, and certainly isn't the fault of the restaurant. I knew as soon as the server announce the "amuse bouche" that we were in for a fine dining experience! Can't went to go back on my next visit. Anyone who thinks it's too expensive should try finding a fine dining restaurant in California at their prices! Impossible! Dinner for 2 (one person had wine), with multiple courses was only $100. I thought that was a bargain for such lovely cuisine.

Yelp
When I first went to Marisol, it was 2006, and I would've, despite the 2 of us picking up a $220 bill (with NO ALCOHOL), given it 4 stars... I went back. They'd advertised some wild truffle mushroom soup that made my ears perk and then some... cause it was cold and I love me some creamy mushroom soup. I took my sister, someone I love oh so much... it was right before leaving North Carolina for Washington, and I had a hankering for the gnocchi that used to literally melt in my mouth (despite the portion being insulting)... well... the gnocchi... instead of that soft, gorgeous melting bit with lovely sauce and all else... I got lukewarm, FRIED dumplings (so they were hard... anyone who's done potato pancakes knows mashed potatoes and the like do not stay soft when seared)... with cold, unmelted cheese and... COLD meat from either a lobster or crab (that was not part of the original gnocchi, either) which just made the whole thing repulsive... my sister's food was just "okay" and our soup required, get this, loads and loads of salt to be edible--I make better soup, and mine doesn't cost a small fortune. It smelled freaky, tasted like this odd combination of sugar, the minced bits of mushroom, and garlic (they said that was the chives, I guess? they were strong and icky in this)... and overall that visit was miserly past the bread, which is still good and the reason they get 2 stars--fig bread as an option? Yes, please. I still walked out having spent $60 somehow for 2 soups and 1 bleak chicken dish... but damn... between a waiter that didn't know his menu items (for THOSE prices, you should) well enough to say anything but "it's wonderful" about EVERYthing when there are only a dozen items!) and the prices (it feels like a Citibank Chase merger just happened to your dinner receipt)... I was disappointed. Whatever happened in the 2 years since I fell for them... they fell, big time, into complacency or ... something. It was all, bread aside, a big night of blech... and we went out for this!

Yelp
Hands down the best food in North Carolina, the food is amazing always a piece of art. It's a small locally owned restaurant offering top quality French American cuisine. Service's always perfection, they're true professionals.

Yelp
This place will surprise and delight you with the variety in the menu and the awesome food. All the dishes are completely 100% fresh and cooked to perfection. Many options like the soft shell crabs are seasonal so be sure to check out both the appetizer menu as well as the full menu. And for those that like a good wine with dinner, the options here are great and not found in many restaurants. This is among the best restaurants in Greensboro with excellent service, food and spirits. Top off your evening with a visit to their piano bar as well.

Yelp
A little out of the way from Greensboro, but worth the trouble to find. Service was friendly and attentive. The meal was fresh and delicious! My husband and I both had a fish dish (mine was salmon and his was off the special menu). I'm not a huge fish person but this was perfectly prepared and tasty. I would get it again!

Yelp
Great wine selection. Lobster appetizer - perfect. Duck entree - maybe the best I've ever had anywhere. Service couldn't be better. Knowledgeable and friendly and there just enough. Saw the piano bar for the first time and didn't know that they have music there on Friday & Saturday evenings. Would be the perfect place to have dessert and coffee following what was one of the very best meals that I've ever had in Greensboro. So what if it is in a small strip center? Once you are inside, it is a smallish but not crowded space with just the right atmosphere to accompany the amazing food. Just can't recommend this place highly enough.

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant since its inception. Yes, you will spend some money. Yes, you will have a fantastic experience. The staff are all professional, informed, and personable. It is one of my all time favorite restaurants, and I've eaten in many of the best all over the world. This is a hidden gem. Go for the specials in most cases. The desserts might be the only thing that aren't outstanding, but they're still good. Recently they've added panna cotta to the menu which is a step in the right direction. You should be full long before then, with all the great choices.
