Yelp
Huge Disappointment for such a good looking hotel, but as our trip proved... looks can be deceiving. It all started with the initial purchase of the hotel. Before I clicked submit, it was brought to my attention that it would be a good idea to stay at a hotel that had complimentary parking, to avoid the issues with street parking. So I called the hotel and was told by a sweet women, that there was complimentary Valet. So with that information, I was sold, and I booked the reservation.
Fast forward to the check in, I went to get the car parked by them and they wanted to charge $75+ (per night), something which was not discussed over the phone and also something the valet person commented on as well saying "the prices are steep here for sure". Of course their hospitality was completely off, because when I brought up the information I was told about parking on the phone (to the front desk), they just stared, and were like "yeah, anyways". So we found a wonderful lot full of nice people right around the corner (not associated with the hotel at all). Now the parking attendants at the other place definitely knew what hospitality was. But, we are talking about the hotel and its staff now.
Anyways, cut to the check - in, they asked for a card for incidentals, from a weds night check in to saturday morning check out it was a $225 deposit charge, (completely fine, but I did ask if there were any other charges that I should be aware of on my card, and he said no, so I trusted him, regardless of what happened with the parking situation, I thought "new face, fresh leaf" Nope, and you will find out why at the end. Anyways, the horror story keeps going...we had a lot of bags, yet their concierge didn't even offer to help, you just have to grab a cart and haul the stuff yourself. By the way, none of them smile, they just stare at you and look like they want to die or maybe they were homophobic, because that is what they came across as being, must be a horrible working environment too.
We get up to the room and they didn't even leave a light on for check - in, completely pitch black in the room, so you have to spend time trying to find a switch to get some light (I don't frequent Motel 6, but at least they keep the light on for you!)... Anyways, the pictures below will show you everything you need to know. But just so you know there were stains everywhere (walls, curtains, carpets), spiderwebs in the corner of the room, the headboard was mickey moused to the wall and had screws hanging off of it, the mirror had scratch marks all on the bottom, and the bed sheet (or duvet, if that's what they want to call it) was torn. It was a sight not wanted to see upon checking in and waking up to... just to find more issues.
The faucet alone sounded like a ship docking everytime you turned it on (like a horn blowing, it rattled the bathroom everytime it was flowing water), it felt like we were waking up the whole neighborhood.
Once we realized our fate with the hotel, we decided, let us just enjoy the city, and forget about this (4-star hotel, they say it on their website or wherever, but from the looks and feel of the hotel, as well as their reviews on yelp... they probably buy their stars) Well we checked out on saturday and drove back to los angeles. By the time I got home, I was charged $119 on my card, for a destination fee... $35-$39 a day. What a joke! (especially because they guy at check in originally said that I would not be charged any other fees. Just a simple bate and switch situation. I feel like the destination fee is what you pay (for the room), hence a hotel being in the destination you wanted to be at "on vacation" I have never heard of a destination's destination charge... I've heard of a resort fee, but honey, this was no resort.
This was my boyfriends first time in San Francisco, and this was embarrassing and mortifying in all aspects of the words.
Anyways, enjoy the pictures, and just know that the stains, tears, smudges, scratches, and sounds are all included in your destination charge.
