Ferry Building Fight Prompts 17-Year-Old MarketBar to Close | Eater SF

"For 17 years MarketBar anchored the southern end of the San Francisco Ferry Building and was the first sit-down restaurant to open after the building's revamp; its bright-yellow umbrellas and outdoor seating made it an Embarcadero-area landmark. Owner Doug Biederbeck says business itself wasn't the problem — Eater SF observed the place packed on unexpectedly warm evenings — but after the lease expired a three-year negotiation with landlord Hudson Pacific Properties proved unsuccessful; Biederbeck described the talks as a “grueling period” and the “hardest part” of his life, saying Hudson's requested rent increase was a “substantial ask” that he did not consider reasonable for a seasonal restaurant. MarketBar's last day will be April 22, after which it will join other recent departures from the Ferry Building." - Eve Batey

Went with a colleague and shared wonderful dishes between us as tapas. Pretty full for a Tuesday night too which made the place feel alive and vibrant. Subdued lighting too to make the place feel initimate and personal. Ordered wayyy too much food in the end but all of it was excellcent quality.

Intersting place where you can go for drinks, mexican food or just for a party. We visited it by accident and it was a good surprise. Highly recommend the draft beer.

Food was decent nothing special at all. I definitely wouldn’t go back or recommend and they kept getting our order wrong. I’d also like to add pulled pork Arancini is awful!! It doesn’t taste like there’s any meat in there just bland mash.

The food is really good, nice and fresh and generous portion sizes for tapas. A good selection too. Dinner meal can be 2 mains, 1 side and a desert for €45 per person and it’s a really good deal and plenty of food! Staff are friendly. Such a nice space with a chilled happy vibe I highly recommend

Nice place, not a lot of vegan options and a bit pricey for what you get. It’s a good option if you want a drink with something on the side to nibble on.

We had an amazing Sunday brunch with a group of 15, and the service was exceptional. Two of my friends follow a gluten-free and vegetarian diet, and we were pleased to find plenty of options for those with dietary restrictions. For groups of eight or more, the restaurant typically offers a group menu. However, since it was a quiet day, I spoke with the manager in advance when making our reservation, and they were happy to accommodate our request for an à la carte menu to cater to specific dietary needs. Our group enjoyed both the set dinner menu and the group menu, both of which were absolutely worth the price. The food was delicious, well-portioned, and satisfying. A special thanks to Zeha, who took great care of us during our visit. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend this restaurant!

Nice place to have some pints. I liked the open space. Tapas was good, a bit pricey though.

We were seated without a menu, even after requesting one. We were also told that the server would be right over, but the server did not show for 15 minutes. Whole time, people are being seated around us and getting orders in. Manager sat in the back the whole time on her iPad, even while a line was forming at the host stand. Would not recommend.
