"Last-minute group dinners happen for a load of reasons. Someone who once was feeling existential about their birthday might suddenly want to celebrate. You may be brewery-hopping with a bunch of pals when the fourth round of IPA flights makes you hungry. Or, maybe you were recruited as the designated table-booker weeks ago and you just plain forgot until the night before. No matter why you’re planning a hasty-but-casual group meal, The Masonry is the ideal place to do it. It’s a walk-in spot that takes reservations, but truth be told, not many people actually make them. This means that you can typically snag an online booking for up to 10 people without much notice. If you have more humans than that, just call the restaurant and ask—we’ve done this before for 14 folks without fail. photo credit: Nate Watters And whether you’re inviting one friend or a dozen, the setting of this wood-fired pie place is a pizza party waiting to happen. It has a bright space with psychedelic paint swirls on the ceiling, long communal tables, dangling light fixtures made from beer bottles, a skee-ball machine, and lots of taps. There’s another (tiny) Masonry location in Queen Anne, but the newer Fremont one has a larger dining room with more group hang potential, as well as a patio for warm-weather pints. Since the pizzas here are on the smaller side, we endorse filling your table with them and engaging in a civilized slice swap, as you pass around everything from charred margherita pies to ones topped with buttery taleggio, mushrooms, thyme, and pancetta. Throw in a few tangy dijon-forward caesars and the best meatballs in the city, and we can guarantee a successful group dinner, or your money back. Just kidding—we don’t have the authority to be able to do that. Food Rundown Caesar Salad The Masonry’s caesar has a terrific, mustardy tang that clings to romaine like Alex Honnold to El Capitan. Shavings of parmesan and housemade focaccia croutons add welcome salt and crunch. Meatballs These are the best meatballs in Seattle. Made from a blend of pork and dry-aged beef, they’re tender and ever so springy with a little kick of heat, served in a pool of marinara topped with grated parmesan. If you left the premises without having had these, you wasted your time (that is, if you’re a meat-eater). Margherita A simple, well-executed take on a classic, complete with crushed tomato, fresh mozzarella, and snipped basil on a soft crust covered in char bubbles. The pie is also sprinkled with coarsely-chopped raw garlic, so if you’re not into that, or you happen to be a vampire, ask them to nix it. Mushroom O.G. Pizza Seemingly hand-selected with the same care as Clue′s casting director, the combination of toppings on this white pie is pretty much perfect: roasted criminis, earthy thyme, and gooey taleggio that does both jobs of cheese and sauce. You have the option to add pancetta, and you should—because this pizza (and everything in life) greatly benefits from some smoky pork." - Aimee Rizzo

Came in on Saturday, possibly missing the lunch crowd. Place is stylish and big, with patio seating, bright artistic deco, and an open view of the pizza oven. Curated draft beer and bottle lists. My wife and I had Structures Modern Memory 2 and Skookum Final Form TIPA. Various serving sizes, and for some beers that could mean a pricier smaller pour, but overall not bad. Foodwise there are many standard and seasonal pizza offerings, along with apps and a few other options. We opted for the Sausage pizza. Service was friendly and food came out fast. The pizza was delicious. This is a worthwhile stop if you’re in the area, but if you’re coming from outside, good luck finding parking.

They have such fantastically thin-crusted pizza and a huge drink menu! I'm allergic to cow dairy, so it was a pleasant surprise to learn that their pizza dough didn't use any dairy and they even had goat cheese to boot! Their outdoor seating area is enormous and also allows dogs, so our pup enjoyed his stay there as well (they even brought a water bowl by!). I wasn't absolutely blown away by the pizza, but it was tasty and that's what matters.

Astonishing draft & bottle lineups. Good food. To-go not available in Masonry Fremont. Totally worth a visit in Fremont area. Personally don't like sunlights due to allergy, so was a bit painful during 1800~1900 as direct strong sunlight shed through wide windows on most tables.

COVID has hurt a lot of locations, and The Masonry is definitely one of them. Their menu has been stripped of everything but their smaller (~10” - 12”) and extremely over priced pizzas ($24) and three side items. Their focaccia is still incredible, and part of the reason they still got two stars. We got the sausage special pizza. It sounded interesting with a jam to change things up. The taste was meh, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t that good. I also could have counted the pieces of sausage, as it was so sparse, literally leaving two or three slices without any at all. Finally, it had that soggy pizza consistency, flopping down and having to be folded to eat it, almost as though it had been frozen and reheated just under the right amount. (I took a last second shot of the pizza just to give you an idea). The team wasn’t as excited to see everyone as most other restaurants I’ve visited lately have been. They made me walk away, make a reservation on my phone, then come back up, when they could have easily checked their computer with me standing right there. I get there’s a “no walk up policy” right now, but the signs weren’t prevalent and I was the only one who walked up; it could have been handled better. Also, they are only serving beer at the moment... or so we were told. When I asked if I could get a mixed drink, I was told they weren’t serving liquor for the time being. About 3/4 of the way into our meal, my girlfriend overheard the waitress ask the table behind me if they’d like another gin and tonic.

Late dinner, 2 vegetarian pizzas that did not disappoint! Excellent beers, tasty pizza toppings and decent crust in a modern atmosphere that can be a tad loud for people with heating deficits. Good staff with good service. Flat screens and typical great Seattle music.

Nice food and great selection of draft beer. The pizza is also excellent. We had the Margarita pizza BD it is delicious.

Really good food but wow, was the music loud--volume and genre (when we went in, there was screamo metal on). So one star off for that. Our kids complained that it hurt their ears. But they were quick with drinks & biodegradable cups for the kids. There were high chairs, too, and when we asked, we were told some kids options. Fair warning? The "kid pizza" is just as big as an adult one. Pizzas are big enough for 2 people and tasty, though I wished mine (speck) had more toppings--we got margarita, speck, and mushroom. We sat near the oven and our kids loved that. The chefs were very kind to our kids and the pizza guy in particular made it a memorable and exciting experience for them.

Great patio space for dining or gnoshing and drinking. We loved the clam dish to start, and the eggplant sandwich was so good! Very reasonable prices for a bottle of wine, and a friendly server. Fun vibe to place, with a neat indoor bar space in the back. Overall very pleased with this new addition to Fremont!
