"I like the Maverick because it's been thoughtfully converted from an old YMCA (it used to be an Ace Hotel where I actually cooked), and they kept the same aesthetic while adding reasonable rooms, no-contact check-in, and plans to build out a bar and restaurant." - ByWilder Davies

This boutique-style hotel is a great option for parents visiting their kids at college in Pittsburgh. It's only a short drive from Carnegie Mellon or Pitt. Overnight parking is free in an adjacent lot (though you have to pay starting at 8am, which is easy to do from a parking app, and quite inexpensive). It is usually much more affordable than other options in the area, but the accommodations are very nice. You must be comfortable with not having a live person at a front desk. You check in and check out online or via text, and you are given a code to enter the hotel and your room. Staff is VERY responsive and helpful via text. It's nice to arrive at the hotel and go straight to your room. The building is a converted old YMCA with lots of interesting charm. The newly finished bar area and lobby look very nice (though the bar area only appears to be open limited hours). The rooms are all updated and well appointed. There are a number of decent restaurants and coffee shops within a walkable distance.

The room was so beautiful! Well furnished, super comfortable and huge bed, complimentary snacks and water and coffee and ra. The roon was very clean, bathroom too. Air conditioning was nice and cold which we were grateful for. The whole building is beautiful, lovely old pittsburg tower with a fancy restaurant in the lobby. Keyless entry could not be easier , worked like a dream. Wish we had stayed longer!

The Maverick at Kasa in Pittsburgh is great!!! We had a wonderful stay and a wonderful experience there. The hotel is located in a former YMCA building so it has charm and character. The communication and check-in process was seamless. Our room was very well appointed, with some thoughtful additional touches like complimentary water and cookies. The room was very quiet and the bed was quite comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep (although we should mention that the bed is on a low platform, which could pose an issue for people with physical challenges). We did experience an issue with the A/C, but a service member arrived immediately and took care of the issue right away, and was extremely friendly and helpful as well. Kasa followed up with personalized texts regarding the issue, and even provided some Pittsburgh-themed chocolate bars to help make up for it. We were very impressed with every aspect of our stay and of the hotel and staff, and highly recommend a stay at The Maverick or other Kasa properties!

We enjoyed our stay at the maverick! The room was very clean, comfortable, and stylish. The location was very convenient and street parking was easy. The only problem was that I had some trouble with the customer service text line. We booked two nights separately but wanted to stay in the same room for both. It was difficult to get clear instructions/help over text and it wasn't clear whether you were chatting with a person or a computer. If you're having any issues I'd recommend just calling as they were very helpful once I spoke with someone.

Easy, comfortable, good wifi Cool switch next to the bed to turn off all the lights, nice touch. Parking is something that I have seen some feel is a issue. However, it was fine for me. You can park overnight on the street or there is a lot very close. You just have to go down at 8:00am or download the APP The no human to talk to, is a bit much. Maybe add washing machines with CC.

This is an interesting idea. Once an old YMCA school. Some of has been remodeled and some, like the gymnasium is original. There is a restaurant when you enter, we did not eat there but it was extremely loud. Parking is a NIGHTMARE!! So be prepared to circle. It is also not staffed 24/7. When we arrived a nice gentleman greeted us and was very helpful. The room was not what you expect when you stay at a hotel. Reminded me of a college dorm or first studio apartment. The bed is a platform bed so it is basically on the floor with a walk area beside or maybe a strange side table area. The TV is very small. The bathroom was spacious for the size of the room. Plenty of towels, and just down the hall near the ice maker there is a closet if you need an extra towel. This is a nice touch. So for me it is a solid 3 experience. The mattress was firm if that is something you like. The room was very clean. It does have a fridge and microwave. There were not enough electrical outlets. A pain for charging devices. Walls a thin. We could hear conversation and also doors opening and closing. Elevator takes forever.

We were completely shocked at how nice our room was. The bathroom tiling was beautiful and clean, the built-in bed was comfortable and we had a great view of the cathedral across the street. Really my only "complaint" was that trying to get the shower water to an agreeable temperature was so difficult. The neighborhood seemed quite pleasant, though we didn't spend much time in it. We did enjoy a coffee at Delanie's and found that that strip of businesses was lovely. Overall, I'd highly recommend staying at Kasa. We were unfamiliar with this brand of hotels but after going to this location, I'd do it again. Check-in/out was easy and I didn't have any issues so I didn't have a reason to contact guest services but did see that someone was downstairs if we did need something.

Over all it was a pleasant stay but there was few issues. 1) The cleanliness was poor. The toilet seat had collection of pee or some yellow stain in the size. The duvet had some stains. The bathroom door had marks of gunk and dirt. The carpet and the side next to the big windows had stains. I feel they haven’t changed the carpet and the bedding for long time. The bedding looks washed but with old stains which can’t be removed. Same with the carpet and the sofa. 2) It’s virtual service hotel but there is a front desk gentleman who you will find sitting with his phone right at the elevator. He seemed not interested in helping. We called him to our room few times to show the dirty bathroom but he didn’t come. We found him sitting at the desk while leaving that means he was available but decided not to help the guest. He also don’t greet the guest. 3) They don’t do room service. So your garbage will pile up quite a bit. 4) The ADA approved entrance was bit difficult to access as no one was there to help or we didn’t get any clear instructions on how to use the ADA entrance (there was a switch to use the ADA lift which can’t be found easily and the front desk gentleman didn’t help). We had to carry the stroller up and down the entrance stairs every time we went in and out. I wish they had a slope or something. Good part: 1) They don’t have parking but the street parking worked well for us. We did pay for parking for few hours and other time it was free. 2) The stay was peaceful as I cleaned my place with disinfectant wipes. The room was beautiful with beautiful view to old buildings/ Church. We love the layout of the room. 3) It was hot weekend and the room AC worked perfectly. There are huge windows in the room and we loved sitting there and enjoy our coffee. 4) The location is good. 5) The place was not noisy and quite peaceful otherwise. 6) The building had it old charm and there is a happening restaurant downstairs.
