The 20 Best Pubs In London (For Every Situation) - London - The Infatuation

"The Guinea Grill is a handsome Mayfair pub that knows how to woo us. Potatoes. They do pancetta confit ones, mashed, gratin, but it’s the beef dripping chips that are our type on paper (and plate). They’re thick and fluffy—think chippy-sized, not Maccas—and just the thing for chasing down drops of béarnaise." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna

Wonderful fish and chip. I'd say one of the best. Good value and large portions. It's a very busy area and they do good business so expect a wait. They were also making it very clear that you have one hour to dine once seated. The ambiance is crowded and cluttered. Not beautiful by any means. My wife and I visited twice and both times our server had a hard time getting out order correct. Easily remedied and not that big of a deal. I'm used to having my fish crunchy all around. But I can understand a little sogginess on the bottom due to the size of the portions. In any event, it was delicious.

Dined here in the morning to celebrate my best friend’s birthday and it was the best decision ever! She’d wanted to pay a chippy a visit on her trip to London and first thought of another well-known establishment but I suggested Mayfair instead. We ordered a haddock and cod each. Perfectly beer-battered servings of fish—generous—on top a bed of chips. My friend who always had a poor impression of mushy peas was converted here. Sauces were also a great addition; everything about the food was perfectly balanced and faultless. But what really impressed us was the impeccable service. We were served by a lovely gentleman who heard that we were celebrating my friend’s birthday. Apart from constantly checking in on us and ensuring we were having a good time, he also approached me while my friend was away at the restroom to ask if I’d like to surprise her with a date pudding (that was extremely delicious). I wasn’t expecting this—had no idea this was a thing here—and he pulled it off very smoothly and discreetly. His friendly demeanour too, made the meal very enjoyable. Kudos to the crew and the chefs!

Had a lovely time at The Mayfair Chippy! The food was excellent (my partner and I shared one cod; we had the squid for an appetizer), and the service was cheerful and friendly, despite how busy it was. We arrived at around 12:45PM on a Friday without any reservations, and were seated by around 1:15PM. They thoughtfully provide a small water dispenser for those in line. All in all, a great experience, and I look forward to visiting again!

Loved their fried fish. We ordered Fried Cod and Haddock, both had a beautiful light crispy batter on the outside and juicy tender meat on the inside. The thick meaty fillet was so satisfying. 🤤 The tangy tartar sauce with pickles and capers added a crunchy texture to the creamy sauce. It paired perfectly to the beautifully cooked fish. However the chips were hard and dry, I was hoping for fluffy crispy chips but it was the opposite. 🙄 Also I wasn’t sure about the curry sauce, it was too overpowering for the delicate fish. That’s why I didn’t like the Kedgeree Scotch Egg as much. The curry powder in the mix kinda killed the flavour of the smoked haddock. The perfectly cooked egg yolk was lovely though. 😌 Crispy Oyster Mushrooms were a let down. I don’t know why they didn’t use the same batter with their fried fish to make this dish. The oyster mushrooms were covered with thick doughy batter instead. 🫤

Here’s a review you can use directly: ⸻ We had a wonderful experience at Mayfair Chippy. The food was absolutely delicious—easily one of the best fish and chips we’ve had in London. A special thanks to Mr. Nader, who took great care of us and managed to arrange a table quickly, knowing we had a toddler waiting at home. His attentiveness and warm hospitality made the visit even more memorable. Highly recommended!

Google
We had gone here on the summer term break. Their Prawn sandwich is something you should really order. The portion size for child portion is good with mushy peas and chips. Found the cod size for adult portion bit small. Staff is nice and atmosphere is great All in all must a visit Note: You could ask for a non beer fry (Halal)

Google
Recommended by our tour guide we decided to give it a try. I asked a few people on their way out how it was and they said it was worth the wait. It really was!!! The fish and chips was phenomenal! While the back room we were seated in was quite hot, I'd jump at the opportunity to sit in there again to have their food. Service was excellent. I highly recommend giving them a try.

We arrived in London a day ago and were excited to explore the city. As we were entering our hotel elevator, two other travelers raved about the fish and chips at The Mayfair Chippy. They couldn’t stop talking about how delicious it was, and we couldn’t resist trying it ourselves since it was just a short walk from our hotel. The hype was real! There was a constant line waiting to be seated, and making reservations is best, especially for a party of three or more. If you’re a party of two without a reservation, you can be seated sooner since they have many tables for two. We were fortunate to be seated quickly, while other larger parties had to wait a considerable amount of time. The wait was worth every bite! I highly recommend their Fried Haddock & Chips, which is under the MAYFAIR CLASSICS side of their menu. It comes with three sauces, but their tartar sauce is unreal delicious. Other options include mushy peas, chip shop curry sauce, and HP gravy. They also offer gluten-free options. My wife enjoyed the fried cod (gf) along with a side of fried shrimp. The shrimp came with a very special tangy sauce that was absolutely delicious!

Yelp
BEST Fish and Chips in London! Best fish and chips I've ever had! We got the cod and the lemon garlic mayo was incredible. A must have in London! Make sure you get a reservation ahead of time.

Yelp
Ordered: Fried Cod & Chips (~£25): with mushy peas, tartar sauce, and curry sauce Fentiman's Rose Lemonade (~£5) Aya's take: First trip to London and of course I had to get a proper fish & chips! The Mayfair Chippy is hands down serving some of the best fish & chips in London and definitely the best one I've ever had yet. The Fried Cod & Chips is the way to go. They have a Fried Haddock option but I find that to be more dry and less flavorful in general. The Fried Cod was outstanding! The batter they use is light and clean, it's fried to perfection, and the chips were super addictive. I loved their tartar sauce which paired well with every single bite. The mushy peas was actually not that bad; it seemed well-made but I also didn't care much for it. The curry sauce had some sweetness to it which I used to dip into the chips for a contrast in flavor. I totally should've gotten a pint of beer instead of the Rose Lemonade as it didn't pair well but on its own, it's a solid beverage. The Mayfair Chippy is hands down a must-try in London! I can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
I had read great things about The Mayfair Chippy so when my friend and I were in the vicinity we took a chance and showed up for lunch, without a reservation. While we did have to wait for a while, it was definitely worth the wait. The fish, chips, atmosphere, and service were all top notch. This chippy is on my *list* for lunch or dinner the next time I'm in London. It was one of my favorite meals of the trip. Highly recommended. Pro tips: If possible, plan ahead and make a reservation. Credit card only. No cash taken.

Yelp
Mayfair Chippy is a must visit in London for the best fish and chips! I highly recommend reservations to avoid a long wait. I made reservations and we were promptly seated. The restaurant is small but warms and inviting. Love the pictures on the walls. We love the fried fish! Both the fried cod and haddock were fresh and flaky. The batter was crispy and airy. I liked the taste of the Haddock more. The chips could have been crunchier, but we still ate them all. I also enjoyed my beet salad. Very fresh with a generous amount of colorful beets.

Yelp
Looking for a good vegan fish & chips to welcome us back to London, Mayfair Chippy was the closest & had awesome reviews so who are we to argue Line was short but we had to sit at the bar & the place is teeny so you'll literally be bumping elbows with your neighbors - best advice is to get a reservation so you can have a roomy table to yourselves. But this was our first visit so who knew..... Vegan Classic was our choice & it came with chips, mushy peas & tartar sauce as well as siracha mayo. They also had a veggie version but we opted vegan since we were specifically looking for tofu Portions are gigantic & super yummy. Totally loved the tofu-nori combo. We had so much wanted dessert since our bar neighbors were having sticky toffee pudding but absolutely no more tummy real estate Next visit! Count on it!

Yelp
Much like all of the reviews say - make a reservation and you won't regret it. Our waiter was so kind, quick to deliver, did an excellent job explaining the menu, was on top of allergies, and overall remained charming. We got the Mayfair classic in both the cod and haddock and they were the best fish/chips we had all week (maybe ever?!). No question. We also had the fish of the day which was an incredibly generous portion. Staff did everything to make us feel comfortable throughout the entire service. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
We enjoyed our US Thanksgiving in the best way possible... at They Mayfair Chippy eating fish & chips! We were actually at their newest location and it was fabulous... we made a reservation online and then called to switch it last minute, but it all worked out perfectly. Five star service, food, drinks and ambiance. Definitely a Thanksgiving to remember!

Yelp
Good place for Fish and chips. Right across from Harrod's. Simple, delicious, and fresh. Should make a reservation. We didn't so had to settle for a small counter by the front door. Didn't get to enjoy the main restaurant. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Without a doubt, this was probably the best fish and chips I had while I was in London. There is a reason there was a long line to wait outside to get in here because it might even be the best fish and chips in London. I did my research to find the best fish and chips in this city, and I really do not think the reviews exaggerate anything, this is a well done plate and deserves all the accolades. The fish is the perfect fry (get the cod, or just listen to your server), and with the mountain of fries and the mushy pies, tartar sauce (a bit onion forward, but it works), and the curry sauce work so well with this plate of food. I was just shoveling it in, not caring that I was a tourist for the time I was eating this. A nice cider makes this all go down nicely. Be prepared for a bit of a wait if you go during lunch. But the service is quick so you will not be waiting long for your food once you are inside. It is order, eat, get out, with little fanfare but with a great outcome. Check this one out if you are able to do so.

Yelp
I hear locals say this place is overrated. The reviews tho say it's amazing I will go with the Yelpers here. This was the BEST FISH and CHIPS I have ever eaten. I got the cod and it was perfectly flakey. The batter was perfect. It wasn't oily. It was the perfect crunch. The fries were perfect. The 3 sauces it came with. Tartar wow, curry yum but I could do without the peas. For an app we got the battered king prawns which was very good. Same batter. I loved dining there so much I decided to order take out the following nite. So this was where I dinged them a star. I got the same fish and chips dish but with haddock. Same yummy experience except they screwed me out of tartar sauce. Not just my order but my brother and his family as well, they ordered hours before I did. Like wtf. We're suppose to get all 3 sauces. Not sure why I would get the curry and peas but not get tartar which was the best of the 3

Yelp
We happened upon this place after a long day of sight seeing and were happy to find a spot with such high ratings and recommendations. The line was down the street and we waited for probably 30 minutes before we were seated outside on the patio. The service was nice, but everyone seemed very rushed and stressed just getting people in and out. The fish and chips were very good as well as the kids sausage and shepherds pie.

Yelp
I am sad that it will be a while before I can go back to the Mayfair Chippy to get some of the best fish and chips I have ever had. Before we went to London, I did some research on the best place to go and landed here. I recommend getting a reservation ahead of time, otherwise you might have to wait in line for an hour or so. My born-and-raised-in-the-UK British uncle, who had quite a few complaints before we even sat down - why did we need a reservation + this place is a far cry from a traditional Chip shop + back in my day, etc, etc, etc - finished his meal quite pleased and satisfied. The hostess was the most pleasant person, even with many customers badgering her with questions and complaints. She answered everyone with so much politeness and with a beautiful smile. The place itself is small but with lots of charm. The servers were charming as well and very efficient. They do want to seat as many customers as fast as they can, but they're not going to push you out the door if you go over the "time limit." Uncle and I opted for the Fish and Chip combo which includes mushy peas, tartar sauce and either HP or curry sauce. Mom and Aunt shared the mussels. Appetizers included the fried prawns and squid. All the fried foods were perfect and not overly greasy. Seasoning were on the milder side so that the sauces can shine. Price was definitely on the higher side, but for that experience and fantastic meal, I would gladly fork over my wallet.

Yelp
The Mayfair Chippy is known for having some of the best fish and chips in London, and for good reason. The fish is fresh, flaky, and perfectly battered. The fries are salty with a crispy exterior, but the inside is soft and fluffy. The fish and chips is a good portion and very filling. The restaurant itself is kind of small with limited seating, so avoid queuing in the rain and make a reservation. The servers are attentive and friendly.

Yelp
Excellent food and service, highly recommend, great choice by yelp . Ambiance 5 of 5 highly recommend for a fast food paced

Yelp
Come for the fish and chips. Finish the meal off with the sticky toffee pudding. That's all you need and you will leave happy. I still don't understand mushy peas and curry sauce. All the fish needs is vinegar, maybe some lemon, and tar tar sauce. The sticker tough pudding is light, airy, sweet, and served warm with vanilla ice cream. Great way to finish the meal off

Yelp
Loved The Mayfair Chippy so much when I visited four years ago that I had to make a return trip! Note to self: do what you did last time and make a reservation on OpenTable. Did NOT think it would be so busy on a Wednesday for lunch, but we were lucky to get countertop seating facing the street before a huge line congregated outside. Thankfully my friend came, so I was able to try more stuff this time. Ordered the Mayfair Classics with fried cod, a haddock on the side, and TMC Shepherds Pie since I have never had shepherd's pie in England before. The cod and haddock were top as I expected. Batter is flavorful, but thin so that it focuses on the fish. Fish quality was amazing as usual. And that shepherd's pie? Absolutely delectable! Service was great, everyone was really friendly to us. Too good, but I definitely want to try some other fish and chip shops to see how they compare!

Yelp
I really wish wanted to like this place. I was debating whether to give 2 or 3 stars but this is based off MY experience, as I know others had a better experience. We didn't wait long in line and we got sat for a table of two after maybe 20 minutes. We got sat and was told we they had a strict time limit. We put in our order almost right away, which was cod that had fries and all the sauces, and then a haddock just the fish. A table sat next to us after maybe 10 minutes later, and they also ordered. After a bit, they got their food which was more food than what we ordered. Someone came around and said our food was coming. After about 20-30 minutes (it was difficult to waive down staff as we were sat in the back) we finally were able to get someone's attention. They came and asked if we were all set, only for us to tell them we haven't even gotten our food. They went back and told our original server and he came out and double checked what we ordered. At this point, the party next to us already finished their food. Once we finally got our food, which at this point is after 45 minutes, the food wasn't even hot and it was like it was sitting out the entire time. At this point we didn't want to complain or say anything since we were so hungry and just wanted to leave since the place was also small and cramped as well. The food was alright for being what it was but it was very bland. Again, this is just my experience since I know others had a better experience, it's just sad that they were so strict with the seating but can't be bothered to even check that we gotten our food yet.

Yelp
The best fish and chips! The fried cod was the best I've ever had and their tartar sauce was perfect to dip the fish in. The batter on the fried cod was light and crispy while the cod itself was perfectly cooked. They gave a lot of fries, which also were so good when dipped in the tartar sauce. After, we shared the sticky date pudding with clotted cream ice cream and it was the best pudding I've had so far! The cake was warm and moist which paired nicely with the sauce and ice cream. We went early so we were seated immediately. It's a bit small inside and we did see a long line when we left. It's worth it though! Service was friendly and quick, they checked on us a lot but didn't rush us at all even though they were so busy. I'll be back the next time I am in London!

Yelp
Our first meal after landing. Plane lands... let's go get some Fish & Chips. My pre-vacation research led me to Mayfair Chippy. I made a reservation ahead of time, but we were about 45-30 minutes so we decided to stand in line to get in early. Turns out that's how long it took to get in anyway with maybe 3 parties ahead of us, so we ended up being right "on time" for the reservation. The reservation was helpful though because it gave us a full 90 minutes at the table if we needed. ON TO THE FOOD! I got a pint of beer to go with my fish and chips. The fish was cooked with a perfect crisp coating and seasoned well. The chips could have used more seasoning but they were ok. My first experience with mushy peas, I loved them. I preferred the tartar sauce over the curry sauce. Overall so glad this was my first meal in London and a great way to start our trip.

Yelp
Decent dining experience overall. Ordered the mussels, the prawns, the soft shell crab burger and the fish and chips. The mussels are a must! The sauce is extremely savory and perfect for a cold/rainy London day. The prawns were fried to perfection and the fish and chips are what this establishment is known for. I'd avoid the crab burger as it was masked with too much sauce and bread. The service was friendly but the wait to get in was insane. The ambiance is laid back but I'm not sure I'd wait to dine here again. (I'm from New York and not a huge fan of fish and chips but enjoyed dining here.)

Yelp
This Fish and Chips restaurant indeed serves some of the best or better fish in London. Having consumed a fair share of protein and carbs in various locales, I can confidently say they have amazing fried fish here. Fish - The fried Cod here tasted clean, fresh, and cooked to order. Breading wasn't overbearing nor heavy. It was just right and stuck to the fish well without completely separating in one go as you consume the fish. Cod was flaky and delicious. Bar none some of the best fish around. The classic comes with a trio of sauces. I opted for the classic tartar, curry, and mushy peas. The tartar sauce was tangy and delicious and delivered all the expected goodness you would from the sauce. The curry was delicious, mild, and a bit sweet and went very well with the chips. Mushy peas aren't something I'm a complete connoisseur of, but was good, albeit a bit bland for my tastes. The mushy peas indeed tasted like peas. Fish and sauces are a 5/5. Chips - Giving the chips its own review. Chips, were mostly, if not almost completely unseasoned. They offer salt and pepper at the table as well as the malt vinegar so you may season on your own to your liking. Unfortunately, the chips themselves almost seemed like they have been sitting under a warmer for far too long and were at best lukewarm. Some chips almost seemed overcooked and the ones you'd expect to be a bit more full bodied were a bit dry. Definitely had better at many other establishments. Might've just been a one off or miss on the batch, but the one served failed to match the quality of the fish. 2/5 on the chips. The unfortunate drawback to the experience dining in was the service. Our group was fortunate to get seated in roughly 30 minutes in queue. However, we were offered a split table near each other, which wasn't a concern. We were advised that we'd only have 45 minutes to dine-in, which we were fine with since we knew exactly what we were ordering. However, when we tried to order when seated they wouldn't take our order for our group, but only for half. Half our group was left sitting for nearly 30 minutes before our order was taken or any attention given to us. By the time our food arrived, half our group was finished leaving the other half to expeditiously consume our food as soon as it arrived. Someone dropped the ball and we couldn't fathom why the server outright refused to accept the entire group's order despite all orders being paid for and accommodated for on one receipt. All in all, amazing fish. Would dine or takeout here just for the fish. Service was unfortunately a miss the evening we were there.

Yelp
Came by for lunch the other day and it was a lacklustre experience. Mayfair Chippy is no longer in the Michelin guide...and I know why. The clientele appears to be tourists...red flag. Dining is available both indoors and on the patio. The indoor dining room was quite stuffy. Air conditioning doesn't seem to be a thing in London... Ordered the Cod with chips and curry dipping sauce. My order came out within a minute of ordering, fresh out of the fryer. The chips were super hot but were off. They were extremely hard and bland... no wonder most of the patrons left their chips on the table... The cod itself was huge with flavorful breading and fish that was pretty bland. ...I didn't quite get this. I've had better fish and chips buying the ones from the fridge at my local grocery store and heating them up in the convectional oven... Staff were lovely.

Marisa D.

Yelp
Great food and service. They could have been a little more organized with their line/seating policy but wasn't too bad of a wait.

Linda L.

Yelp
The fish and mussels were really fresh and very tasty. The fish and chips came with 3 sauces: mushy peas, tartar sauce, and choice of curry or gravy sauce. We got the cod fish. The service was quick. The pink lemonade was good and light.
google avatar

Ally W.

Yelp
I had the classic fish n' chips here with haddock. The fish was fresh and the batter was light. It was very comforting biting into crispy goodness and hear that crunch each time! Both the tartar sauce and the curry sauce (must be a London thing) were great dips for the fish, however, the mushy peas...not so much. I have had green pea dips that were seasoned or flavored much better; they make you actually want to dip fried fish into green peas. Here, the mushy peas only reminded me of bad school cafeteria food unfortunately (1 star off). The chips were crunchy though. Even after about half an hour, they maintained their crunchiness. Here's a confession: I dip my chips into tartar sauce and curry sauce. Don't judge until you've tried it. ;)

Yelp
Yum! Stumbled upon this place as we were headed somewhere else last night. There was a line of ~20 people waiting to get in. Looked it up online to see what people were waiting for and lucked into a last minute reservation. My husband and I each got a classic Mayfair and wow! So delicious. The curry sauce went so well with the fries, and the breading on the fish was incredible. Service was decent, though don't expect much. They are mega busy. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting who wants to try a chippy restaurant!
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Wowza. I now know what all the hype is about. I highly suggest making a reservation or just doing takeaway (it's a lot quicker). Folks, it's busy even during off hours. I got the Classic Cod Fish and Chips. And my gosh, it exceeded my expectations. It was thick with tender cod (huge piece as can be seen in the pic), and the outer crispy layer was perfectly thin and well...crispy! The fries were fat, piping hot, and perfectly crispy. Even the sauces (tartar, curry, and this green-one-I-don't-know-the-name-of) complimented the fish and chips well. The supplementary Malt Vinegar packets were much needed too.
google avatar

Carmen W.

Yelp
The BEST ! The food was as amazing as anticipated by the overwhelming reviews. The Fish (cod) and chips (crisp on outside tender inside) were the best I've had. The Sheppard's pie was lamb and delicious. Make reservations - we are happy we did- the wait was quite long for a Sunday night. Quant and small eatery.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Do not come here. We waited outside for 2 hours from 8-10 pm while we watched reservation after reservation come through. They hold tables waiting for reservations that haven't shown up yet. By the time we were seated it was 10:10, they sat us at bar stools and then finally moved us to a table since we had a party of 3. Their take away is 6£ cheaper than the in-house price. They charge $6 for coke and the fish and chips were $31. The food wasn't bad but not worth the wait or the price. The sauces that come with the fish and chips are curry, mashed peas, and tartar sauce. There is some serious mismanagement occurring here and the prices are the epitome of tourist trap. Find fish and chips elsewhere.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
The best fish and chips in London. I've been here several times and they never disappoint. Crispy fish batter with flaky cod fish inside. Super crunchy chips that are fluffy inside. The three sauces of tartar, mushy peas, and curry sauce are perfection. Friendly staff.

Yelp
Great experience for authentic fish and chips. Small place and need to wait in line even though had reservation. Worth the wait. Very bustling place! Historic building and love the Mayfair area.

Yelp
Very busy restaurant so my hotel made a reservation for me. Reception was friendly and the staff was friendly and efficient! The fish and chips were plentiful and delicious!

Yelp
Amazing Fish and Chips. My wife and I ordered Cod and Haddock respectively and it was fresh and everything was crispy. The Chip wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it but the amount was plentiful. We enjoyed the Crispy Oyster mushrooms especially the black garlic & truffle mayo it came with, we even used it to eat majority of the chips with. Service is friendly even when it was really busy if it wasn't so cold we would have eaten outside instead of waiting 45 minutes for an inside seat highly recommend get a reservation on open table. We liked the decor but since it was so full we couldn't see all of it.

Yelp
Delicious Fish and Chips! While some may say it is on the pricey side, we went in aware of it. We were visiting London for a week and planned to go to the Mayfair Chippy, based on recommendations that it is one of the best in the area. Be prepared to. Wait in a queue outside (unless you made reservations). Inside the restaurant were a tables (i think more in the back), a counter sitting area by the front window and outdoor sitting. We had a very friendly server. We tried 2 of their Mayfair Classic: haddock and cod. Each came with 3 dipping sauces (tartar, mushy peas and curry)and generous amount of chips. My favorite was definitely the curry sauce! The fish was quite large, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Needless to say, we finished it off and went home very happy with our meal.

Yelp
There was a wait to get into this small establishment. It was definitely worth the wait. I ordered the shrimp dinner and hubby had the fish and chips. Everything was spectacular. We definitely will stop here again when in London again. BTW...we walked two miles in the rain to eat here and stood in the rain to wait for a table. It was worth the effort!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has such a cozy ambiance! I was able to get in after a brief 15 minute wait and it was well worth it. Loved the holiday music and decor, and they also had blankets for folks who were sitting outside. :) The fish and chips were solid! Fun fact: this place has great vegetarian and vegan options for folks that don't eat fish. I was curious about the tof-fish!

Yelp
Great fish and chips, in fact, the best I've had in London. I've been to several highly rated places and this was the best, by far. Great attentive and kind service and a nice cozy atmosphere to enjoy a beer and fish. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
The best fish and chips in all of London! Small location - so plan on waiting in a line outside.....but it's worth it! Tables turn over quickly. The tartar sauce was delicious! The muscles with the wine sauce were also incredible

Yelp
I do not perceive tourists to be a red flag, when I am one myself! Some things are popular for a reason, and mostly it may also be the location and convenience. Sometimes you really don't have time to go off the beaten path just to have fish and chips. Mayfair takes reservations, although they are hard to get. It is tiny inside. On a shine day, there is a tiny patio. Between haddock and cod, you will be told that haddock is more fishy. Because we have mkre cod in the US, we picked haddock and did not regret. Good tartar, good chips. Also enjoyed the jumbo shrimp. Our server was funny, which is always a bonus.

Yelp
We ate some delicious fish and chips here. We each ordered a meal but quickly realized we could have just shared one plate. The fish was excellent and fried just right. The fries did not have much flavor but were still ok. They had a terrific selection of beer. Mine went really well with my meal. It complemented the fish well. A lady that worked at a store we were at recommended this lovely restaurant. I found when in London the locals really do make some excellent recommendations.

Yelp
Glad we had a chance to lunch here. Reservations would get your seated faster. We didn't have it, so we waited 30min for a table. Staff were efficient and very courteous. We had fish and chips, slaw, battered prawns, and veggie plate of battered cheese and chips. Love the fish and chips. Batter was light and crispy, and the cod was fresh, hot and flaky. The battered prawns were so yummy. Again, perfectly battered in their own dipping sauce. The slaw is not traditional US slaw. Pickled and slightly salty, tangy and sweet. A very different, and delicious take. Highly recommended

Yelp
A great and affordable pasta restaurant in London I recommend a small restaurant (Padella) that you can visit if you are addicted to pasta. I walked in. I queued for 70-80 minutes (remember to scan the QR code at the door to register), but their pasta is really delicious. It is also ranked among the top in Dianping. 1Pici Cacio e pope is a pasta mixed with butter and black pepper, with a rich milky flavor. The pasta is particularly chewy! Specially recommended 2Tagliarini with Dorset crab, chilli & lemon is a pasta with crab meat, and the crab flavor is very strong. It has a Southeast Asian flavor for some reason. The noodles are very ordinary and not recommended 3Pappardelle With 8-Hour Beef Shin Ragu is a pasta with stewed beef, which is a wide pasta. The beef is stewed very well and has a light tomato flavor. Medium recommendation 4tiramisu tastes very good and is handmade by the restaurant. But it's a bit sweet #pasta #restaurant recommendation #treasure restaurant sharing #london #london food #london food exploration #london exploration #uk #daily food #good store recommendation in the city

Yelp
The wait was about 45 minutes, but it was so worth it. Tried both the haddock and the cod (cause you only live once...). The chips were also tasty and fresh, just like the fish. The batter was amazing. Will be back. The sauces - especially the curry sauce - were unique. Cold bottle of coke to wash it all down. Heaven!

Yelp
I had a beautiful experience and cannot wait to come back. I had no idea it was such a hot spot! I showed up Sunday evening 6:00 and the line was 1-1.5 hours long. Instead, I put in my take away order & had the BEST GLUTEN FREE fish and chips in hand within 15 minutes. The woman at the front taking orders was so kind and went out of her way to find me when my order was ready! She made the experience that much better. The fish and chips itself was absolutely spectacular. I have a severe wheat allergy & I felt confident and comfortable ordering and eating here. 100/10 recommend! I cannot wait to come back on my next visit.

Yelp
There's a reason for a long queue in front of this restaurant...some of the best fish & chips you'll find. I discovered Mayfair Chippy on the recommendation of a friend. They didn't steer me wrong. It's a small restaurant best known for their classic fish & chips served with mushy peas and a curry gravy and tartar sauce. There are several other appetizers and entrées on the menu but the Mayfair Classic is the way to go. There's a nice beverage menu too with full bar selections. Be prepared to wait in line for a table but it's well worth it.

Yelp
Honestly the best fish and chips I've ever had- I recommend the Mayfair classic with cod and the curry sauce the fish was perfectly golden and shatteringly crisp. Not a single soggy bottom here. They even give out a little bag of sweets when you pay which I think is a cute touch.

Yelp
My brother and his family were here earlier in the year when visiting so we made it a point to get here. After a long day, we walked here and the queue was 15 deep! Luckily we had a reservation and got inside (warm because of the fryers, I suppose. I got a pear cider with a glass of ice so I could get something cool to drink. Brother got Sauvignon Blanc and nephew had a couple Sprites. We started with the fresh baked sourdough and it came with butter and some kind of sauce that was a perfect complement to the bread- salty, creamy. My brother and I got the Mayfair Chippy Special, he with Haddock and I got cod. Chips came with curry sauce for dipping and tartar for the fish. Mushy peas was also provided. Nephew got kids fish sticks and he destroyed them. I apologize if I misspell names here. Beatrice was our server and was absolutely slammed all night. Still was amazing we never needed anything and they didn't push us to eat quickly like other places in the US when it's busy. When the food is freshly fried, it takes a while. At the end, I also interacted with Ambra who was also helpful. Being so tired from the entire day's walking and events I made the cardinal sin of thinking she was our server. But she was also quite helpful and without making me feel like an idiot she mentioned she wasn't really the server. Both were excellent and I was happy to pay for this meal. Couldn't even come close to finishing my dinner so this could be the last meal I eat in London tonight after the NFL game. Suggestion: make a reservation. Not a good idea to show up without one, it's a long wait. Thanks Mayfair Chippy! My brother mentioned he recognized the manager John who was also working crazy hard. Respect to the team here.

Yelp
We were at the Mayfair location 2 yrs. ago and were satisfied with the food & service. So we decided to try out this new location, which is a short walk from Harrod's. Food was great. However, service was not -99999i felt like we were discriminated. We arrived 30 mins. early for our 7pm reservation because our son is hungry from all the walking that day. Told the manager that, but we were told to wait. Used the restroom while doing so, which was neglected: unclean, trash bin is full, floor was slippery, and the waiting area to line up is cramped you could bump into the staff hauling their supply from outside to the kitchen. Then I noticed the manager brought in 2 sets of patrons who were also early for their reservation. When we got seated, the waitstaff were great. However, we weren't served our mains until after I followed up with them 30 mins. later. The others, however, were given their orders (fish & chips like ours) ahead of us and just minutes after being seated. Overall not satisfied. We've been polite the whole time and tried to be understanding. No one should be treated this way.
