"In case you haven’t seen our official Infatuation review for the original location, allow us to get you up to speed: We’ve got a lot of love for The Meatball Shop. Every once in a while, we forget why we like this place so much. But being that these things are f*cking everywhere now, opportunities constantly present themselves to remind us of how reliable this restaurant is. The Meatball Shop’s balls are pretty damn impressive, whether it be on a bun or naked for the world to see. We also like the fact that they bump hip hop through the speakers, serve homemade ice cream sandwiches, and take their beer and wine list more seriously than you might expect. This is basically the Italian Shake Shack. Or maybe it’s the Uber of meatballs. Or Warby Parker for sandwiches. Jesus, we’ve been spending too much time in San Francisco. Of all The Meatball Shop locations, Chelsea is our favorite. It’s spacious, has a great private room downstairs for big group outings, and is open until 2AM. It’s also in a neighborhood that’s rich with quality humans, but not necessarily quality restaurants. As a result, The Meatball Shop operates at capacity on most nights. Can’t deal with the crowds? Try it for takeout. Either way, this is a good spot to have in your back pocket for the next time you need an easy meal in the neighborhood. Food Rundown The Meatballs We’ll kick this off by tackling the meatballs on their own. The spicy pork is by far the best, followed by the beef and the lamb (if available as a special), followed by the vegetable, which are surprisingly tasty. The chicken meatballs are whatever. They are all relatively light, though eat too many and you will feel it in your gut for a day at least (trust us). While nice on their own, these meatballs are best showcased in a sandwich, rather than simply in sauce or atop a bowl of pasta. That being said, both the spaghetti and and rigatoni they serve at TMS are simple and solid. Meatball Hero Served on a baguette with your choice of ball, sauce, cheese, and bread type. Our favorite is spicy pork, spicy meat sauce, and provolone on whole wheat. Add an egg if you’re feeling crazy. It’s quite possibly the perfect meatball sandwich. Meatball Smash Two meatballs served on a brioche bun. A bit smaller than the hero with the same options, and also very good. We always get an egg on top. Sliders A nice way to sample the goods, we absolutely love the special lamb meatball with mushroom sauce. The chicken with parmesan cream sauce is a let down. For $3 a pop, your money is better spent diving into a bigger sandwich. Get a hero. Mashed Potatoes Buttery, creamy, mashed potatoes with bits of skin. Rich and perfect, just don’t fill up on it. Kitchen Sink Salad Not in the mood for a big ball sandwich? The kitchen sink salad is what the doctor ordered, featuring some greens, some vegetables, and some balls. Significantly better than whatever salad you just ate for lunch. Ice Cream Sandwiches Order one of these or risk wasting the best years of your life knowing only the Chipwich." - Andrew Steinthal

"The NYC import is cutting prices in half on draft beer, house wine, and well cocktails, as well as serving 50 cent mini buffalo chicken balls, for all, all day long until the government shut down is over." - Tierney Plumb

"Sietsema’s colleague Tim Carman fared worse at the Meatball Shop, but at least he got to compare living in Washington to being extruded through a meat grinder. (We are all meatballs in 2018). Carman calls the crab balls from the New York chain “forgettable,” writing the potato chip crust is “thick as a bank vault.” The lobster ball melt is a “crime against crustaceans.” Mainly, Carman thinks the fast-casual, sit-down place leads diners astray because the gamut of options can create combinations that don’t work. He recommends keeping it simple, like he did when he ate the classic beef-and-pork meatballs with tomato sauce, braised kale, and rigatoni." - Gabe Hiatt

The staff at meatball shop is always so welcoming and entertaining! They recently upgraded their menu and rolled it out at this location; so happy we got to try it! The mozzarella, tomato and basil risotto was creamy, delicious and flavorful!! I will definitely order it again in the future. I’m not super adventurous and always order the naked chicken meatballs with pesto and they are always spot on - never a disappointment!! If you love pesto you’ll love this combination too!

Came here as second option due to wait times at another place but we were so glad we came here! Service was very quick and sandwiches were much larger than expected. Has an okay beer selection and cocktails are decent. Prices are very fair. Classic meatball hero sub with mozzarella and tomato sauce was very good!

Visited on late Thursday evening. We were seated right away but it was very loud. . I had make it a bowl where you can pick one kind of 4 meat balls, one type of sauce, and kale. I had classic meat balls with parmesan sauce and kale. I thought the meatballs were a bit too salty.

Had a lovely lunch here. Waitress was really nice. They had a laminated kids menu and a dry erase marker to draw all over it. Nice idea - don't know why I've never seen another restaurant do that! The food was good and our meal was satisfying. Only thing that will stop me from frequenting this restaurant are the prices. Very expensive with few reasonably priced options. Too bad.

I really wanted to like this place. We came here for brunch. Maybe we chose the wrong items? We got the biscuits and gravy w/meatballs and the meatball breakfast sandwich. I ordered a cold brew. Hubsters ordered a cappuccino that was served in a water glass. Weird. Had to ask for a mug. Service was nice. Cool ambiance. The food was just okay for me. Meatball texture is weird to me. Like overly grounded meat. Reminds me of the texture of pre-chewed food. The flavors were just okay. Not amazing, just meh.

The meatball shop in Chelsea. If you love the meatballs this is the place to go. The service was quick and easy. The menu is very practical, easy breezy. They have different ways to eat the meatballs. You choose your own plate. I had the chicken meatballs in a sandwich was very good. Loved the bun from the sandwiches. Our waitress was very lovely, the customer service was excellent. The bartender was very professional and friendly, make me a Mr. Tangerine, was delicious, great presentation I recommend this drink. We had a lovely time at The Meatballs Shop in Chelsea.
