"If you aren’t familiar with the Meatball Shop, you probably haven’t lived in NYC for very long. It’s a place that got somewhat famous for serving a bunch of different meatballs in various ways, and there are several NYC locations, including this one on the UES. Like the nearby Calexico, the Meatball Shop is another place on the Upper East Side where you can go when you’re feeling lazy and don’t want to cook, or when you need to go out for dinner but aren’t trying to spend a fortune. It’s also worth knowing their vegetarian meatballs are actually pretty good." - Bryan Kim

We stopped by the meatball shop for lunch not realizing it was national meatball day, but what a lucky surprise! They have happy hour specials from 12-6 at the bar with $8 select food and $5 select drinks. I got a 1/2 og nyc hero and the mini Buffalo balls. The people in my group also tried the og flatbread and the spaghetti and meatballs. We all agreed the food was ok but no one was super impressed. We also all agreed that the water had a very odd flavor to it. I think it’s worth it for a happy hour special but maybe not a lunch. The portions for the hero and spaghetti were pretty decent but the flatbread and Buffalo balls were very small. The service was also just ok for me. It took a while to get our food and we were the only people inside at the time. Our server was also a little snarky when offering to split our check and then saying well you should have told me that sooner. So like why even ask us? Also we were still the only people there so it’s not like they were too busy. Overall it was fine. I might be willing to try it for happy hour drinks, but I wouldn’t be upset to not go back.

Pain in my heart is what I felt when I found out that they cut the menu in half. My favorites used to be the crab ball and lobster balls. I am not Sure why they cut those along with other things. Yet, this place still never disappoints and I quite enjoy their food. Delicious is an understatement and drinks are great too. Service was a little off but it is usually amazing so I’ll still give them full credit.

Good portions and unassuming plates. Their classic meatballs are delicious and a good size. It didn’t feel like they were skimping with only 3. The service was also good, server was very apologetic about being new but no shame in that. Will be back to check out their chicken meatballs (which are gluten free) during the happy hour!

I enjoyed The Meatball Shop however it was nothing special. The sandwich was by far the best thing we ate. I asked for both tomato sauce and pesto on the sandwich - our server said she could do one on the side if I paid extra. Didn’t understand why they both couldn’t be placed in the sandwich by the kitchen even if I paid more. Polenta was okay nothing over the top. The meatball, eggs, and brisket weren’t exciting as expected. In the end the Meatball Shop was alright but nothing to be overly excited about. Friendly server, quick service and food came fairly quick.

I ate lunch at this location about one week ago. The place is not very large, but it does have a rustic, comfortable feel. My guest and I were promptly seated. I ordered a glass of Suntory Japanese whiskey, which I was surprised to find on the menu. For appetizers, I ordered the butternut squash and the buffalo meatballs. The squash was cooked well but lacked flavor. On the contrary, the buffalo meatballs were delicious. They were grilled and lightly coated in buffalo sauce. For entrees, I ordered a basic hero consisting of four chicken meatballs in a whole wheat roll. I selected mozzarella cheese and basil pesto to be added to my sandwich. My guest ordered the Crab meatball Po'Boy, which consisted of five, fried crabmeat balls on a brioche bun with aioli. My sandwich was simple and delicious, but filling. My guest enjoyed their sandwich, but remarked that the crabmeat balls were too fried Ultimately, my dining experience at this location was enjoyable. The decor and warm, relaxed atmosphere makes this a great spot for a casual dining or date night experience.

Came to try their spicy meatball. It was good but not inherently spicy or flavored. More like added after cooked. Service was good and it was a nice place with outdoor seating and indoor bar. It's on 2nd Ave so there is metered parking til 7pm

Tasty sauce options and meatball options. Love how they let you choose what meatball-sauce pairs you want, and sides. Enjoyed the special meatball the most as well as the buffalo chicken meatballs. They also have great ice cream sandwiches.
