6 MICHELIN Guide Hotels for Escaping a City Summer

"Greenport retains some of its fishing village origins, but there’s also wine nearby." - Nancy DePalma

The Menhaden

"Why book?If you're booking a room at the Menhaden, it might be because it's the only boutique hotel with a rooftop bar on Long Island’s North Fork. Or it might be because you're in town to do some wine tasting—a worthy reason to spend a weekend on the North Fork, particularly in the fall, when grapevines turn buttercup yellow and soft purple, the air crisps, and the latest vintage is being bottled. Visiting breweries, traversing lavender farms, going sailing, shopping for antiques, and slurping oysters are also very good reasons visit Greenport and plan a stay at the Menhaden. Set the scene:The crowd is made up of weekending, responsibility-fleeing New Yorkers, but vacationers aren’t the hotel’s only clientele. Business travelers have taken to booking stays throughout the year to hold meetings, small conferences, and cocktail receptions. The backstory:The Menhaden was completed in 2018, and sits on the former site of one of Long Island’s first hotels, the Peconic House. The property, which was such a vibrant gathering place in its heyday, was vacant for years until its new occupant popped up. When the Menhaden was being built, artifacts like bricks, bottles, horseshoes, and the mast from a Greenport whaling ship were discovered and excavated. (The Menhaden belongs to the Meyer Jabara Hotels portfolio, which owns, operates, or leases 30 hotels and 20 restaurants in the eastern United States.)The rooms:Like staying in a guest room at your tasteful, rich aunt’s beach house. The palette is black and white—sometimes with stripes—and always looks as though a fresh coat has been applied. Room keys come in unbleached paper envelopes stamped with the hotel’s fish logo (“menhaden,” also called bunker fish, are of historical importance to the area because, as mentioned in the case of Macari Vineyards, they're used to fertilize the land). The large windows in my room had views filled with the yellow and golden leaves of ash trees, whose colors are even brighter in the rain, and views of the harbor. You might find curated items like a miniature hard-cover copy of *Moby Dick* propped up on the nightstand to wind down with. A communal galley on each floor is equipped with a coffee maker and a fridge stocked with goodies. Pastries are delivered there each morning, as if they’ve magically appeared and are simply waiting to be snatched up and devoured. Food and drink:After you’ve stolen one of those croissants around the corner from your room, head downstairs to the hotel’s “general store,” a light-filled, comfy coffee shop with plush seating, magazines, cool pantry goods for sale on the shelves, and an espresso bar, which serves drinks in clear glass mugs that show off the artful layers of a cappuccino. When it’s time to switch to alcohol, head up to the roof deck for rosé and oysters, to watch a sunset over the harbor, or to warm up around a fire pit.The neighborhood/area:Known for its wineries, farms, bluffs, coves, lighthouses, and pebbled beaches, the North Fork is more laid back than its South Fork counterpart (the Hamptons, Montauk, etc.) Greenport, where the Menhaden is located, is in a word bucolic, particularly during the time of my visit in late October. This is when the crowds are few but the local community gets out-and-about to enjoy the fall season. A floral artist nearby, Nathaniel Savage, was arranging dried magnolia branches in his shop White Flower Farmhouse, while One Kourt Studio wine shop owner Kimberly Ruth was emerging from the frigid sea first thing in the morning with her fellow North Fork Polar Bears—she says it’s a transformative way to start her day. There are many vineyards to choose from on the North Fork, but nearby Macari Vineyards is notable for having 500 acres on the breezy Mattituck waterfront and a gorgeous tasting room. They also stand out for their biodynamic farming methods—a challenging approach in the Northeast with its unpredictable weather. They're pesticide- and herbicide-free, they work the land with horses and cows, and they fertilize the soil with local compost, including dead fish. They've also opened a new venue with a wine bar, called Meadowlark, which can be booked for weddings.  For my trip, I traveled from Brooklyn to the North Fork via the Hampton Jitney, a dedicated bus with three routes from Manhattan to Long Island. (Some may remember its appearance on Gossip Girl or Sex and the City.) I took the subway to Grand Central to catch the Jitney at 41st Street and Lexington Avenue, and got off in Greenport, the final stop. The Menhaden is a five-minute walk from the bus station. Door to door from Brooklyn, my trip took three-and-a-half hours. The service:The service here is casual and comfortable; attentive, thoughtful, and anticipatory, as if a graceful person who knows you well is simply being hospitable. A digital concierge sends visitors a welcome text the day before check-in, anticipating needs by asking if directions or recommendations are needed. Upon arrival, they text the WiFi credentials and make clear that they're available throughout the stay. You can also ask the concierge to have a picnic set arranged for you to pick up at the aforementioned general store/coffee shop, or to schedule a bike tour.Accessibility:The property is wheelchair accessible, has elevators, and offers rooms with accessibility features that can be selected when booking. Two ADA-approved rooms have accessible entry, mobility features, and bathrooms with roll-in showers, grab bars, accessible towel bars, and a shower seat upon request. These two rooms also accommodate service animals.Anything left to mention?Activities are offered on the roof deck depending on the day, and include morning yoga classes and opportunities to shuck oysters with a local farmer. Don’t under any circumstance leave without ordering, at least once, a bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel at Goldberg’s Famous Bagels across the street." - Alex Erdekian

We absolutely loved our stay at The Menhaden! The accommodations were amazing, and the entire place was spotless. The staff went above and beyond—so friendly and welcoming, and they gave us so many great recommendations that really enhanced our trip. We were blown away by how thoughtful every detail was. From the little store and cozy living-room style common area to the beautiful rooftop, there were so many unique touches that made our stay special. Truly a 10/10 experience all around—we can’t wait to come back!

What a gem of a hotel! Everything about our stay was perfect and the team was so accommodating because we were traveling for the first time with our puppy. The hotel is centrally located, very well appointed with a galley that has breakfast and snacks all day, a gorgeous rooftop, all your beach gear for a day at the beach, and fantastic staff. We’d highly recommend it for couples, solo travelers, and families (and even puppies). It’s especially convenient if you’re a New Yorker and didn’t bring a car. You can walk to the beach and all around Greenport (or take one of their beautiful bikes). A big shout out to Mario and Aiden for making our trip especially delightful and memorable with lots of great recommendations.

We had such a great experience at the Menhaden. The hotel was beautiful. My room was spacious, the hotel was super clean, it smelled good, and the galleys (filled with free treats) is a great touch. However, the star(s) of the show here was the service. Aeden, Dan, and John were extremely accommodating and a pleasure to be around. They helped us with making reservations, finding things to do in and outside of town, they got us beach ready by lending us chairs, umbrellas and coolers. I would certainly recommend staying at the Menhaden.

Google
Beautiful setting, attentive and friendly service and great location. We stayed in the king suite - clean, well set out with everything you would expect from a quality hotel. There were lovely touches with the guest kitchens well stocked with treats, coffees and soft drinks, warm cookies in the evenings, snores for the roof top terrace, guests bar with local wines and beers. The hotel staff could not do enough to help or recommend places or restaurants - really friendly and approachable. They booked restaurants, wine tours, planned itineraries. We headed to the beach with a bag of towels, beach chairs and cold box provided by the hotel. Free bikes were provided for your use. There’s a well stocked shop for those bits you forgot to bring. Greenport is a cute village with great restaurants and bars, with Shelter Island a short ferry journey across the bay.

We recently stayed at The Menhaden for the first time, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, Mario and team made us feel genuinely welcomed—attentive without being intrusive, and always eager to help. Whether it was offering local recommendations via convenient texts messages or making sure every detail of our stay was seamless, they couldn’t do enough for us.||The amenities were spot-on: stylish, well-appointed rooms, a rooftop lounge with stunning views, complimentary snacks and beverages, and thoughtful touches throughout the property that made it feel both luxurious and relaxed. It’s clear that service is a priority here, and it shows in every interaction. ||Greenport itself is a gem, and The Menhaden is the perfect base to explore it. We’re already looking forward to our next visit.

Google
Booked two rooms for an overnight get away with friends. Both rooms were spotless and nicely decorated. The hotel desk staff were so nice and professional each time we spoke with them. The hotel itself is centrally located to downtown Greenport and has parking. They have a little galley area on each floor that offers beverages and snacks complimentary which was impressive. Upon checkout we were given a little parting gift of French macaroons. It’s the little things that add up and we all would definitely return!!!!

Google
So I'm not one to typically do reviews but the experience that we had at the Menhaden was top notch and definitely worth sharing. From the moment I booked the hotel I began receiving welcoming messages asking if I needed any additional assistance and or recommendations. This was our first time in Greenport and I was looking for suggestions for things to do and places to eat. I quickly came to realize that this was an unexpected concierge service of the hotel and the responses were quick and quite detailed. We were only in the area for one day and the recommendations helped make it a great one day visit. The hotel was in every sense of the word boutique complete with a nice little gift shop with local merchandise, snacks and drinks. They have a nice bar with games where we had a nightcap after dinner and a game of scrabble. We briefly went to the rooftop deck which has a great view of the town and a tabletop fireplace. We were unfortunately chased away by a storm passing thru the area but the roof top deck is a great addition to the property. We enjoyed one of the standard rooms which was simple but quite comfortable. The icing on the cake for us was the amazing complimentary drink, snack and coffee station which was on each floor. I have stayed in many hotels as we travel extensively and I have never experienced such a nice, well thought out snack and drink station. They rotated items in the stations for the evening, day and morning. The warm chocolate chip cookies before bed were such a nice touch! Thank you for spoiling us rotten Doug and Ann W

Google
Absolutely amazing. And worth every penny. From the front desk on day 1, to the nightly cookies, freshly stocked kitchenette, access to whatever we needed/called for within minutes . And also the cleanest establishment we have ever stayed. And did I say Dog friendly?!! . The attention to detail is unmatched. Very cozy, clean, and worth it. Missing it already.

Yelp
Can't wait to return! Fantastic Boutiquey style hotel. Spacious, clean rooms. Super polite staff. Excellent location. We loved the rooftop patio with the fire tables and fantastic view of the bay, and the sunset. The Menhaden is a perfect choice for any North Fork getaway!!

Yelp
Loved staying at this hotel and wish we were here longer than one night. The staff was so friendly, they provided complimentary desserts, snacks, non alcoholic beverages and coffee all day in their galley kitchens on each floor. It had a rooftop deck, coffee/store and bar. The rooms were modernized (but not so modern that it took away from the vibe!) and very clean. We brought our 1 year old with no issue (our own pack and play because I think there was a charge if you use a crib from them). Great stay, central location and highly recommend it.

Yelp
- Lavendar infused towels upon arrival. Warm greeting and tour of the premises. - Fresh baked croissants, hot fresh coffee for breakfast from our fully stocked pantry - EPA certified cleansed room. Perfectly firm comfortable King bed. - Rooftop terrace with a fire pit and bar. - Bicycles, umbrellas, local magazines, should you require them during your stay. Menhaden has all the detailed amenities that make you feel at home and cared for. I think we found our favorite hotel on the North Fork. Thank you!

Yelp
(1) The hotel only has 11 parking spots for 16 rooms. To add insult to injury, when we had no place to park nearby in the street, the only person on duty at night finally said "I can move my car out of the lot if you really want to park here." What kind of business allows employees to park in the guest lot, particularly when on-site spaces are severely limited? (2) The only person at the front desk is also the bartender. Describing his skills as "pitiful" is being charitable. Lots of artisanal alcohol, but only 1 brand of gin and 1 brand of vodka. I asked for gin on the rocks, and was alert enough to stop the "bartender" as he started to fill the glass with vodka. $47 for 2 simple drinks on the rocks. (3) Beautiful gift/coffee shop, also with no staff. We ordered a matcha latte and an espresso, both of which were poured down the drain after 1 sip. There is an excellent coffee shop close by and puts the hotel's bumbling efforts to shame. In addition, I've never seen a store with no prices on any article. (4) The TV malfunctioned, and 2 requests to make it operable were ignored. I finally found someone to repair it the next day, but was unable to turn off what became a blue screen. I finally pulled the plug in order to make the room dark enough for sleep. I have extensive experience in both the hospitality and retail sectors. The hotel is really well designed and maintained. The staffing is basically non-existent, and the few personnel we saw were either incompetent or untrained. This is no way to run an upscale hospitality business. When the economy inevitable softens, they are in for a rough landing.

Yelp
One of my best Hotel experiences ever. From the handwritten welcome note in the immaculately clean room to the gift box of french macaroons on the way out it truly was an oasis for the weekend. The Plus's: -Hotel bar has a record player and a vinyl collection ranging from Otis Redding to Wu-Tang Clan with great cocktails. -Great 24 goods store with a dope coffee shop -Complimentary canteen on each floor with everything you'll need for a late night sip. I kind of giggled when they said that there's fresh croissants at 7 AM. Yesterday morning I saw they were out so I figured what the heck, literally the best croissant I ever had. -Felicia! Front desk manager. Sweetest super knowledgeable with all the local recommends. Spot on! -the room. Clean and spacious. I miss the mattress and shower products already. One of the cleanest most meticulous rooms I've ever been in. I even loved the special plastic covering for the remote control. Five stars to the cleaning crew! -the rooftop. Only Hotel in Greenport with a view of the water. Fire pits and blankets made it the perfect location to end the night. The Negatives: I'm not there tonight :(

Yelp
Wonderful decor and ambiance - great location - staff very helpful - especially Mario -

Yelp
We stayed at The Menhaden for a few nights in May and loved its homey yet elegant and modern vibe. First off, it seems that many of the negative Yelp reviews are based on experiences at the restaurant (Demarchelier) located in the hotel lobby, a completely separate entity from The Menhaden so those reviews should be posted separately. I wanted a restful place as I was sleep deprived from caring for a sick family member. The quiet Menhaden was perfect for that with its spare beachy decor, laid back vibe and extremely comfortable mattresses/bedding. It's walkable to just about anyplace in Greenport so very convenient too. The front desk personnel were super friendly and responsive, thank you Jake and Riva for answering my texts so promptly. Loved the galleys (located on each floor) offering 24/7 complementary beverage and snack service, plus fresh pastries in the morning. The roof deck was spacious with nice water views and firepits lit up at night. We would have liked some sun shade on the deck but were told umbrellas are not set up before Memorial Day. Prices are on the high side but that's Greenport for you, and we took advantage of lower rates in effect before the high summer season kicked in. Free parking, immaculately kept facilities. All in all a great experience.

Yelp
Spent a few days here last summer. The Menhaden is a phenomenal beach-town hotel, perfect for a weekend getaway. Clean, airy and comfortable, the Menhaden is just the perfect home base for unwinding after a day spent wine tasting at the North Fork's vineyards, swimming in the sound, and exploring Greenport's restaurant scene. The staff are wonderful and care for your every need, and the amenities are top- tier. Rooftop deck was a perfect late night spot and the galley refreshments could not be more convenient and well thought-out. Very cool bar too! Can't wait to come back when visiting family this winter.

Yelp
Let me just say, WOW. Everything about The Menhaden was perfect. From booking, to planning my itinerary with the staff, to being welcomed at check-in, the room itself, and check-out... everything surpassed my expectations. Mario and his staff are beyond wonderful. This hotel is attentive to the smallest of details that can elevate an experience. The galley full of local snacks throughout the day was so lovely, the bar downstairs, and the roof were great amenities! Another huge bonus is that this hotel is dog friendly! Our room was incredibly clean and the other guests we encountered were lovely; it was a peaceful stay, not too loud at all. I can't wait until I return to Greenport so I can book another stay at The Menhaden!! If you're visiting the town, book your stay here, you won't be disappointed!

Rachel g.

Yelp
Gorgeous little hotel, fantastic service, and a great area in Greenport! Felecia at the front desk is amazing. We loved raiding the galley late night and how most restaurants/bars were in walking distance. Visit Goldbergs in the AM for breakfast. Ten out of ten!

Yelp
We come in here often for coffee when we're visiting and the guys there are always so friendly, accommodating, and helpful! We usually stay and chat for a while because we enjoy the convo with them so much! So personable! Today we were helped by Elber and he was just the best!!! Usually we see Natchie and he's also great. Best service and drinks by far!

Yelp
We stayed here for one night to attend a party at a nearby vineyard. There were four of us - girls trip. We had two rooms. This hotel was outstanding. The staff was amazing, very helpful - they gave us a tour of the hotel immediately upon arrival. 15 min after arriving I discovered I left my dress at home, 3 hours away. Felicia was so helpful - she texted me the names and address of nearby clothing stores - even told me the hours that they were open. Our rooms were perfectly clean. Extremely clean. There is a rooftop area with a fire pit and a lovely view. There is a galley in each floor with a stocked fridge, an upgraded keurig machine, assortment of teas, and snacks. The fridge was stocked with soda, water, juice, fruit, and yogurt. There also was an assortment of milk for the cereal they offer plus dried fruit as a topping. It was quite lovely and very much appreciated in the morning before we checked out. This is everything and more that a boutique hotel should be. Homemade croissants in the morning and fresh baked cookies in the evening. The bed was super comfortable. The shower was great. We all decided to return with our husbands in the spring - there is a golf course nearby. This hotel was very luxurious while still feeling very cozy and homey. The staff were kind and helpful and really went out of their way to make us have a great experience.

Yelp
A Jewel in Greenport! Thanks to Amy and Natchie, we felt welcome from start to finish. Everything is top notch and they even have baked cookies and ice cream available for guests in the evening. They seem to value their guests and treat you like part of the family..... A definite must for a relaxing getaway!

Yelp
Great drinks, nice space, friendly crowd, town center Rooms are nice, great location, pricey

Yelp
Pros: friendly service, modern decor, great location. The hotel also has a small parking lot (though sometimes it was too full to park in). We also enjoyed that we could borrow a beach permit for the local beaches. Gave it two stars though because there room just wasn't very clean, and it's not worth the price of nearly $800/nt on a weeknight. The floors could do with a vacuum and mop/swiffer, and the nightstands could be wiped down better.

Yelp
I generally dont give bad reviews but I'm sad as i am writing this. I even slept on it because i genuinely thought that maybe I'd feel differently about my experience here but i don't. I'll start with the food because thats probably the only thing that gave me a quarter of a smile. For appetizers, we order the pate which was excellent. The bread took forever to come but it was good. They brought the bread out with no butter, no olive oil, salt & pepper, nothing! Asking for those items was a mission too. Our entrees finally came after a long wait. The duck was dry and not seasoned at all. It was very bland. My friend asked for her steak medium rare and it came out well done. She had to order another one. The second steak was great and it was definitely medium rare. It was juciy and very well made. I ordered the pasta of the day. The creamy sauce could have been thicker but it was tasty. When we walked in no one was paying attention to us. I felt like we were ignored for an extended period of time which i thought was rude considering that we are in the middle of the pandemic, people should be rushing to seat and serve us. After finally being seated, we asked the beverage menu the server pointed to a menu that was closer to the door. We had a party of four, she wanted us to get up and look at the drink menu instead of bringing it to us... who does that? She could have told us before they seated us. So we let that go. We order our entrees and they come. We ask for salt and pepper. The server looks at us as if we were lying about there not being salt in the shakers. Wtf? At this point, i was ready to go and spend my money where its wanted. I dont want to make this a race issue but i certainly felt like i didn't belonged there and trust and believe i will never spend another dollar here. We had a Cape Verdean server who thought she was French and apparently failed to locate where exactly Cape Verde is on the map We tipped her because she's of color but she didn't deserve a dime. I was not impressed by this place. If you're a person of color and if you decide to spend money here after this review, you're a better human being than i will ever be. Dont waste your money or time!!

Heather I.

Yelp
Never again. We stayed here once a few years ago and didn't have the best experience. We usually stay at American Beech in Greenport & love it. We decided to give this place another try. You can hear everything through floors & walls. The people upstairs were so loud, especially at 4 am. The front desk staff actually went & talked to the loud party & they did quiet down. Last time the bar music below was shaking our floor. The rooms are very basic, no frig or even phone charging ports. Very expensive for one night in February, over $700. No water view, or view at all. The bar downstairs was closed at least for the season. There's a community frig on each floor with water, coffee & snacks. Totally not worth the cost it in our opinion. But I wouldn't pay $200 to stay here again. Some staff were ok, others were rude. There are many other places to stay. The location is convenient but that's about it.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Such a gem! I stayed here during the week and had the best stay. The staff is so nice, the location is great and the hotel itself is so clean and well maintained. This might have been the best hotel experience I have ever had. I did not want to leave so ended up extending my stay. The hotel is in the perfect location and the roof is so relaxing to have a coffee or drink on. The galley is stocked with amazing treats and so convenient as well as the little shop with amazing coffee. The texting service was amazing as well as Mario and his team. I loved biking to the beach and to the wineries. I would not think twice and book this place, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
I have to be clear- writing this review on decor , service and rooftop bar...I didn't stay at the hotel. Stumbled across the Menhaden and wow- so cool. Gorgeous black white and grey decor. Hip yet casual- chic city meets open air beachy too. Loved it. Took pictures right away and sent them to my interior designer brother who had already heard about the place. We took the elevator up to the rooftop bar. Think they are still working out the kinks up there. Great views across the water and more cool furnishings but just not enough places to sit or umbrellas for the late afternoon heat. Not sure why they don't have waitress service either. Area is small so one server could handle it. You go to bar order and carry your drinks to your seat. Beverages were not cheap $15 for a small pour of rose. They have lemon water for whomever wants and a small menu of lite bites. It's definitely worth your while to check it out. Love a rooftop bar!

Yelp
A nice simple happy hour. Staff is attentive and very nice. Nice spot. We actually were going to spend the night but there were no vacancies.

Yelp
We just had an amazing stay at the Menhaden! The entire staff was so lovely and welcoming. We loved all the amenities of the rooms and the cool feel of the lounge downstairs. Definitely a great spot in Greenport.

Yelp
By far the best boutique hotel I've ever stayed at. Hotel personnel was extremely attentive, welcoming and went above and beyond to make sure our experience was unforgettable. Staff is very engaging and make you feel at home. The rooms where modern, chic and clean. The attention to detail is extremely noticeable. Would highly recommend this location! We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
This hotel was right in the middle of Greenport on In the Hamptons, LI. A 2 minute walk to the ferry to Shelter Island. The town was bustling with many restaurants and possibly some star sitings. the hotel has just had a complete upgrade and was awesome. We had a blast., thanks to my wife.
google avatar

Yelp
First time we passed this place we were struck by how stylish it is outside. It really has a wonderful Hamptons vibe. We went inside and went up to the roof and they have a lovely view of the harbor. We had dinner at their restaurant The Merchants which is off the lobby. The food was absolutely delicious and my wife had the best martini she's had in many many years. We are definitely coming back! Update: We did go back a few weeks later and it was so noisy the waitress couldn't even hear us give our order and none of the food was as good as the first time. Maybe the kitchen couldn't handle the pressure. Disappointing! We won't be back anytime soon!

Yelp
This place is like if the Ritz Carlton and a great bed and breakfast had a baby and named it the Menhaden. The staff knew who we were by name, we got a text before arriving asking if we needed any help with plans! The rooms were modern and beautifully decorated and the complimentary stocked fridge just outside our door came in handy! Then the private rooftop bar with spectacular views was an amazing spot for my wife and I to just relax and enjoy the weather a great drink and some fresh oysters! We are definitely going back!

Yelp
Awesome. Great staff, comfortable, clean, all around everything I was looking for. Helping me have the best vacation that I could have.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed three nights at The Menhaden. It was clear upon entering this pretty boutique hotel that the space had been completely renovated. It's located in the center of Greenport, so we were able to walk to restaurants and the water within minutes. The hotel has sixteen rooms and our room was located on the third floor. It was bright, cozy and extremely clean. The bed was comfortable and the bathrobe was so soft and comfortable. Each floor has a little room called The Galley that has a Nespresso machine with coffee and tea provided. Nice quality, fresh baked goods are on the counter every morning to enjoy. There is a refrigerator stocked with sparkling water, fresh squeezed orange juice, grapefruit juice, several flavors of Nounos Greek yogurts, soft drinks and cream for your coffee. On the counter, there was fresh fruit, trail mix and potatoes chips. And, the freezer had Haagen-Days ice cream bars!! There is no additional charge for any items provided in The Galley. In addition to the The Galley, in the lobby you will find a full serve coffee bar with cappuccinos, lattes, etc. They have plenty of complimentary bicycles for use as well. Because our visit was at the end of peak season, when checking in the young woman told us that the roof top was closed for the season, but that she would be happy to turn on the fire pits for us and bring a glass of wine. Honestly, everyone who worked here was clearly happy to be there and wanted our stay to be memorable and it was! If you're ever in Greenport, I would highly suggest staying at The Menhaden.

Cathy P.

Yelp
Beautiful accommodations! Thank you so much Jodie for being so attentive. You made our stay that much more enjoyable. Appreciated having our coffee area right on our floor and having the great complementary snacks. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet! Can't wait to come back!!!

Bonnie K.

Yelp
Best experience ever. My husband and I stayed here for one night, mid-week, in February. We just wanted a quick getaway during our week off from work. Everything about this hotel was great. When I called to ask questions, I spoke with Jake, and he was an absolute pleasure! He answered all of my questions politely, patiently, and with genuine enthusiasm. He held a room for us and called me the following day to see if I had decided to book. We did wind up booking and he offered to help us with dinner reservations, early check in, and late check out, if needed. He could not have been more accommodating. When we arrived, the person working at the desk at that time was just as wonderful. She escorted us to our room and made sure we had everything we needed. The room was immaculate and had a partial water view. In addition, there was a handwritten welcome card that also wished my husband a Happy Birthday - how sweet - AND, the champagne glasses we requested were in the room as we'd hoped, along with a bucket of ice. Great attention to detail! The common area had a kitchenette with a Keurig, tea bags, milk/cream, as well as sodas and yogurts! This made us feel like welcome and appreciated guests. In the morning, fresh pastries were put out too! All of this really made us feel like we picked the right place. A lot of high-end / boutique hotels have a huge price tag, but little to show for it. Not only did the Menhaden offer a great winter rate, but it included so many little additions that made the whole stay feel like such a great value. In the morning, one of the general managers was working. She was also lovely to interact with, and she made us delicious lattes in the gift shop off of the lobby. Overall, we can't say enough good things. All of the employees were wonderful and we had a really relaxing stay.

Yelp
My husband and I booked a one night, mid-week stay here for a post baby getaway. Unfortunately, two days prior, I had to go back to the hospital. We called to cancel and asked if there was anything that could be done - a credit for another stay, etc. We were told someone would get back to us, which they never did. We followed up, and were finally told they were keeping the entire $700, and were not giving us so much as a partial credit toward a future stay. I understand hotels have policies, but sometimes extenuating circumstances do arise, and I think it just says something about how this place is run. There are plenty of other lovely hotels in the area to stay at that treat their guests with more consideration and empathy, so I would suggest trying one of those instead - especially for what this place charges.

Yelp
This was our second stay at the Menhaden. Our first visit was amazing. The staff was incredible and the room was wonderful. We returned for a second visit and were quite disappointed this time around. The staff is completely different from last time. The kitchen area on the floor was much more sparse than last time. The staff were definitely not as caring or attentive as the last time we stayed at the Menhaden. When we checked out not a word was exchanged. They didn't even ask if we enjoyed our visit. When booking our second visit we explicitly asked for the same room as last time, however, when we arrived, we were given a different room. When we went to the room we quickly asked to move and were eventually given our original room request after they "moved some other guests around." These guests of course had not arrived yet. If we do return we will definitely not ask for this room again. The floors are literally paper thin. I guess during our last visit we either had very quiet guests above us or no guests at all. This time we heard what sounded like running, jumping, and dropping of large items for hours beginning at 7am on Sunday morning. It was quite frustrating. This is a beautiful boutique hotel and we were very excited to return. Not sure if we will return for a third try.

Yelp
Found this place right after it opened by accident. Very cool boutique hotel with a city vibe literally a block from the harbor. Good service, enjoyable stay. Had my complimentary yogurt and coffee on the roof lounge with awesome views. Rates are a little high for the area but if you can afford its worth it.

Yelp
Great addition to the town. Beautiful decor, great location to everything. The rooftop was gorgeous with beautiful views. Staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Love the kitchens on each floor with lots of yummy treats/snacks for guests to enjoy whenever they are in the mood. Would highly recommend a visit to The Menhaden.
