10 Best Rooftop Bars & Restaurants in Charleston | Condé Nast Traveler

"If you take just a ten minute drive from downtown, you’ll be rewarded with a pleasing change of scenery well worth the minimal effort. This tavern trades urban rooftops for pastoral river views from its roof deck, with the panoramic greenery of Shem Creek laid out before guests. The cocktail menu is solid, varied, and doesn't stray into any arcane territory. There are good iterations of the classics—margaritas, palomas, mojitos—bolstered by a few house creations. A cucumber mint cooler seems like a perfect start to a warm Charleston evening, while the Mocha Peppucino will appeal to sweet-toothed drinkers." - Paul Oswell

Find Rooftop Views of Shem Creek at the Mill Street Tavern - Eater Carolinas

"The team behind Mount Pleasant staple Crave Kitchen & Cocktails and cheesy food truck Mac Daddy recently opened their newest restaurant The Mill Street Tavern. Located at 508-B Mill St., next to Shem Creek Bar & Grill, the eatery is now open daily for brunch, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are plans to eventually add happy hour and dinner. The Mill Street Tavern boasts a rooftop deck that overlooks Shem Creek. The restaurant claims to be located next to the first tidal mill created, which dictated the interior design. On the brunch menu, patrons will find biscuits and gravy, a fried mortadella sandwich, a chicken philly, omelets, eggs benedict, and more. Back in 2017, Crave’s executive chef Landen Ganstrom said he created the menu for the Mill Street Tavern with his family in mind. 'Coming up with the new food was simple,' he said, 'I just came up with things that I’d want to feed my family, because, in many ways, this community is our family.'" - Erin Perkins

We had a great 1st visit. Phenomenal service and excellent food. Fried green tomatoes were fresh, and you could tell the oil was new (some of the best we've had) and the bacon jam 🤤 just enough spice. We ordered fish tacos and the yardbird, and both were excellent. We can't wait to come back again.

Google
Fascinating Indian/asian/southern fusion restaurant! We made a reservation and when we arrived, the manager explained that they had accidentally just seated a group at our table. But, the manager then went above and beyond to make it right with free drinks and appetizers. This was our friends birthday dinner on her birthday trip, and it meant a lot to us that the team here made it right. The food was fun, filling, and delicious. It’s definitely fusion food, so it’s outside the box- but we loved it. My wife said the lobster roll was the best she’s had!

Excellent, Mt. Pleasant waterfront rooftop spot to enjoy the sunset. Craft cocktails and better than expected seafood. Loved the Bang Bang shrimp and fish tacos.

Google
We had company in town and wanted to try something new, so we made reservations. They were definitely not needed but we did eat around 5:45 pm on a Thursday night. The sidewinder nachos appetizer was delicious! Sorry I did not get a picture. The shrimp and grits were amazing. They use my favorite grits from Marsh Hen Mill. I almost forgot to take a picture. Overall, I give them a 4 out of 5! Definitely worth trying them out.

Google
One of those rare dining moments where conversation is replaced with euphoria. We all thought the food was fantastic and the setting out front was replaced with a surprisingly great view of grassy creek out back. Celiac - Gluten Free options available as well as good all around southern options. I had the bang bang shrimp, fried green tomatoes, and shrimp and grits (all made gf on request.) Pictured.

Google
We found this place on Resy and it is really a hidden gem. Must try the honey hot brussle sprouts and the garlic soy wings, which is amazing! The grill oysters and Entrees are just "ok" level but they are really generous in portioning. We were not able to see the Shem creek since it's winter and sky get dark early, so make sure you go there early to get a good sunset view! But overall we have had a good experience!

Google
We had an amazing time! What a beautiful rooftop view, great food and an amazing server named Becca (blonde hair with the arm tattoo). She made sure we were taken care of and was so attentive! We will be back! Thank you Becca for the great hospitality!

We were here on a quiet Sunday night. We made reservations but none were really needed. The service was great and the atmosphere was comfortable. The brussels were good but the honey was a bit overpowering. Maybe less drizzle is better. The short ribs and the shrimp tacos were really good. My husband loved the sidewinder fries. Overall our experience was a four out of five. We will eat here again.

Yelp
We were able to walk in on Easter Sunday afternoon after an outing to Sullivan's Island. We sat outside on a warm day and enjoyed the views of Shem Creek while waiting for our food. We ordered the chargrilled oysters, and Yard Bird Korean fried chicken sandwich. We also ordered sweet teas... The oysters were surprisingly large, and well cooked. We were a little surprised at the Mexican slant on the flavoring, but the menu was clear about that. The chicken sandwich was really good, the crunch of the crust was excellent, along with good flavor throughout. We were warned by our server that the tea was being prepared when we ordered and would take a while. We should have switched to something else, as the tea didn't arrive until we were largely through our meal, and then they were not sweet and had little tea flavor, so we returned them. Should have ordered a margarita or dinner other frozen drink that more aligned with their focus. We also split a key lime pie which was tasty, but obviously not made in-house.

Yelp
Super weird layout for a restaurant. Several tables are built into the wall and face Shem Creek - good idea but you're sitting beside your party rather than facing them. They seemed short staffed as there was no hostess or manager to greet diners as they arrived. Our server was friendly and made suggestions, but never checked on us or offered to fill drinks after our food was dropped. The food itself was pretty bland. Everyone in our party of 6 gave scores of 4-6 for their lunches. The only standout was the bang bang shrimp appetizer that we shared. Don't need to ever come back to Mill Street.

Yelp
I love the Shem Creek area and every time I am in town, I make my way to it like a salmon swimming upstream to spawn. So many good seafood options! The Mill Street Tavern is beautifully situated along the marsh with magnificent coastal views. We sat outside, shaded from the sun, with a gentle breeze cooling us from the noonday heat. Perfect. Our orders of Bang Band Shrimp and Oyster Po' Boy, however, left us disappointed. The batter on the shrimp was drenched in oil and the sauce had little zip and absolutely no bang. Similarly, the oyster batter was thick and crunchy which robbed the oyster of its delicacy. Bummer. With so many places to enjoy the cuisine of Shem Creek, my "Give 'em a Whirl" meter has my GPS navigating elsewhere.

Yelp
Hoppy Easter with family. Sophia was our server today and was ver pleasant. Starting with wings and going forward....Yummy breakfast, fried shrimp & grits. Happy to see a Good crowd. Not at all loud. Thoroughly enjoyed as always.

Yelp
Food: 4.5. The breakfast was great, especially the bacon. Potatoes were excellent too. The hot honey with the chicken and waffles also very tasty. Service: 4. The servers were nice but infrequent. Food came out in a reasonable time. Ambiance: 4.5. Wonderful view of the creek. Cool industrial style inside. Options to sit inside or outside.
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of different food to choose from. Food was fine. Great spot if you want to sit by the water and enjoy a nice relaxing view.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. The location is beautifully located along the creek so you're able to enjoy a water view to watch boats pass by. There is bar, indoor and outdoor seating available. The servers were very attentive. The "notchos" had a very generous portion of toppings, the al pastor pork was tender and juicy. The fries were crunchy as well. The wings and shrimp po boy were disappointing. The fried batter was greasy on both and the wings were fatty to the point they were a little unappetizing.

Yelp
Such a great venue and history behind this place is so cool! The service can be a bit slower at times but I don't mind this as it allows you to take in the views and enjoy the company you're doing with as well as the phenomenal food! (Of course, if you're in a rush, do let them know and they will accommodate over their typical mentality of not rushing you along in your dining experience!) They're really isn't anything I've had here that I didn't like! They're Gluten Friendly and can accommodate Celiac as they have a separate, designated fryer! This is huge!!! I speak from experience because this doesn't dampen nor damage the flavor palate one but! Mill Street Tavern brings a full course meal and makes these dietary restrictions feel normalized! So a HUGE kudos for this! The Bang Bang Shrimp are great (I've had these at all temperatures... don't normally like cold food-- but even leftover, taking a bite at the end of the meal as my final savoring of flavor, they don't disappoint)! Sidewinder fries (think twists of chunky fried potato) are a side staple for their sandwiches and are the base if their BBQ pulled pork "Nachos"! The Korean Fried Chicken sandwich hits all the right levels with an oversized crunchy chicken breast, sweet heat jalapeno kimchi topping and a semi-sweet brioche bun (again. GF option here)! One of my favorite places and go-tos! Even to go... They deliver delicious eats!
google avatar

Brianna G.

Yelp
Great spot to grab a bite to eat with a view on Shem Creek! They were able to make 99% of their menu gluten free safe as well. So keep this place in mind if you have dietary restrictions. Our server, Lexi, was happy to wait on us despite the hustle and bustle of the restaurant that night and ensured a great experience for my friend with Celiacs. This was so so so appreciated! We got bang bang shrimp for the appetizer. It was SO GOOD! Perfectly crisp, not too spicy with a delicious sauce coating. For my main, I got the crab cake sandwich with a side caesar. I had been craving a crab cake the whole weekend, and this one was great. The bun was buttery and it came with a kimchi tartar sauce that added so much flavor.

Yelp
My daughter took me here for Mother's Day Brunch. Asian/American flavor. She ordered the chicken and waffles, she didn't enjoy the chicken cooked with Asian flavor. I had the shrimp and oyster poboy, not enough seafood to fill the bread food was bland fries lukewarm. The Bang Bang shrimp was great but came out the same time as the meal. The view was awesome the dining experience left nothing to be desired. I needed more choices on the menu for me

Yelp
E MOTHERS DAY DAWWWG!!!! Lol. I took my old lady out. My homeboy Yelp usually link me with good spots. All and ask for is what's the occasion and how many people. After giving the information you told me to head here. Yelp is one of my best friends. Lol. It always knows what it's talking about. As as I pulled up there were gleaming mothers everywhere. This restaurant shares it's space with the crab house. So between the two restaurants I counted about 900 mothers. Lol. All stuffed and feeling appreciated. AWWWWWWHHHH!!! It was still brunch. I hate when I go to restaurants and the menu I was expecting was not available. You're either getting there too early before dinner or getting a late night menu after dinner. Drives me crazy. The bang bang shrimp and so damn good. The sauce is a citrusy savory so. Incredible labor in the braiding. And the smoke wings taste like they were smoked ready and proud to the affection. It was so big and not tough at all. We had the chicken and waffles and the fresh tacos. I've been looking for someone that has sidewalking the french fries forever and call me right into them. They are my favorite french fries by far. Definitely a different choice never had one like this. They also came what their version I'm home fries with her so many also. This is definitely a moment for foodies. They were definitely crowded. But we got there They were closing down to get paid for dinner. Mama doesn't know yet but I have a big surprise for her when you leave. She's looking for her aunt for you I didn't know if she was and I finally found it at a local nursing home. I'm going to get so many cool points this mother's Day. Support is awesome. I think y'all hasn't as a four star. I think that is pretty accurate.

Yelp
My favorite place in Shem, amazing views but not super crowded. If you want chill Shem creek experience with above average food, come here

Yelp
Sophia was so sweet when she waited on us this afternoon. We are from Florida and not familiar with the dining in Shem's Creek. We had a beef short rib and a fried Korean chicken sandwich we both shared that Sophia recommended. They were both yummy and the fries were the best we have had in a long time. Plus, we had a view of the beautiful salt marsh as we dined.

Yelp
This restaurant is great. They are right over this nice creek where boats are rented so you get to see people riding boats. The outdoor seating is excellent and so is the indoor seating. The drinks are excellent. We went back multiple times. We had the fried oysters, poke bowl, fried shrimp, and a delicious Cobb salad. You cannot go wrong with this location!!

Yelp
If I was rating service this would be 5 stars. Visited for brunch today ... had my heart set on the skillet scramble BIG TIME.... We ordered and the food was cold, which is a bummer ... I cant do cold food when it supposed to be hot. It was a shame, the server was very apologetic even though it was not his fault as another person brought our food out. The skillet that it came in wasnt hot either. Regardless of the temp everything seemed it was off a buffet or something the scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries down to the choice of bread. We did however order the side of hash browns & sausage that did come out nice and hot those both were very good and flavor was there. My company enjoyed the crab Benedict with the fried tomato that he said he enjoyed. Flavor wasn't there for me on that dish either.. so in a nutshell the sides saved me !! I wish the food was as great as the service! Aside from the food & service i will say you have great scenery to feast your eyes on which did not disappoint!! Maybe it was just an off day for mills.

Yelp
Great gathering spot for our group this evening. Our reservation at 5:45pm on a Sunday was not during peak hour, and the area was pretty empty with only two other parties present. The food arrived quickly, and was delicious. Our group tried the nachos, which had really unique, twisted potato wedge chips! We had the shrimp & grits (would recommend), tacos, and tried the tuna poke bowl with rice. I enjoyed the food options we tried, the chill atmosphere, and the friendly staff.

Yelp
No one knows what is going on here. We walked in for happy hour and they just said "it's at the bar" but didn't show us where it was and when we asked where it was they just pointed to a general direction (which was not obvious) and continued talking to each other. Like we interrupted two employees at the host stand? The bartender was rushing out to leave and sat us quickly. The girl who served us was brand new and didn't know about their happy hour (but was nice and trying her best). We wont be back. Sorry we annoyed you!

Yelp
We made reservations at Mill street tavern on a whim during a birthday party at IOP. My wife was skeptical since the restaurant is in Shem Creek and most restaurants can be a bit of a tourist trap. Upon arrival at 4:45 it seemed as if we were the only ones there but more people started trickling in shortly after. The blueberry smash drinks are fantastic whether you have them as is with whiskey or changed up with vodka. We started with the crispy chicken wings, large and delicious and each had a version of the short rib. I did the meal with garlic mashed potatoes and my wife had the sandwich with the Brussels sprouts. Overall great service, excellent view of the water and our son enjoyed dinner so that is even more of a plus. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
The Mill Street Tavern is a triple threat with food, views, and customer service. We chose to sit inside because of the heat. The views of Shem Creek were amazing with many tables facing out toward the creek to maximize views. The customer service was excellent and our meals came out quickly. We enjoyed the hot honey Brussel sprouts for an appetizer. They were some of the best Brussels sprouts I have had at a restaurant. I ordered the fish tacos and they were delicious. A little heat from jalapeños and a little crunch from the corn paired with the sidewinder fries made for a perfect meal. My som enjoyed the smokehouse burger and he gave it a 9/10. We had a terrific night of food, views and good times at Mill Street. We will be back on our next trip.

Yelp
A hidden jewel combining casual atmosphere with classy vibes. Unique interior decor and historically preserved. You have a rustic vibe and great view. The staff is amazing and greets you with a smile! The tavern is very accommodating for Gluten Intolerance and Celiac. They have many options for gluten free diners! It makes me feel normal :) They're GF fried seafood options are phenomenal!

Yelp
What a wonderful restaurant! I came here to celebrate my college graduation with some friends and family, and we all had a great time. Chris was our server and he was attentive and wonderful. Everything we ordered was perfect, from the appetizers to the beverages. I will definitely be returning to this place. Nice atmosphere as well and has a nice view of the Ravenel Bridge.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of trying mill street tavern last night, went with my parents and my brother and this was my first time ever coming. So sad it took me 4 years to try this delicious restaurant. Treated my self to a fun drink and got the lavender sunset which was sweet and just up my ally it Had Prosecco and vodka in it. We all split the veggie spring rolls, which had 4 on the plate so perfect amount for the 4 of us. I couldn't decide what I fully wanted but ended up getting the crispy salmon tempura, which I loved. Ate almost all of it left one piece behind but that's typical for me. It was definitely filling. It had so many textures and was think. I would get it again but I was jealous of my dad's K.F.C sandwich... I think I'll get it next time. The view was amazing and it was pretty windy and chilly out but sitting on the covered outdoor area was perfect! We actually got warm because the sun reflecting into the plastic cover kept in the warmth! I would come again! The service was good and quick I made a reservation. This would be fun for summer dinners or brunch!

Jill J.

Yelp
What an amazing brunch menu! And it's as good as it reads! That along with great and friendly Service and a fantastic view - my new fav for brunch! Don't miss it!

Yelp
I love the location, it's a great place to eat that's on Shem but on the end where it's less busy. Generally speaking much easier to park here. The fried oysters and tuna tartar are great starters I highly recommend. The chicken and waffles leaves something to be desired. With many options for chicken and waffles in town, I recommend trying a different dish here. The Shrimp and grits is an excellent option. The strawberry shortcake could have used a touch more sweetness to the berries but is a great summer dessert. The service was slow, my drink was empty for some time before the waitress was able to make it back, and when it came time to get our check we had to flag her down. Understandably Shem gets busy but it was still pretty slow when we were there around 5pm.

Evie H.

Yelp
The service was great and the food was very good. They have quite a few options for gluten allergies; I got their gf corn tortilla grilled shrimp tacos and they were AMAZING. MY brother thought their burgers and fries were great too. Our waters were always filled and with the view right on the river, we were completely satisfied with our experience (:
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
Cannot recommend this place enough! From the staff to the food, everything was incredible. I loved that they have had gluten free items marked. The staff was so friendly and helpful, I felt so taken care of. I ordered the Lavender Sunset and it was amazing. Light but flavorful. I would order this again and again. The Soy Glazed Salmon was crispy and perfectly cooked. It came with the most amazing Brussel sprouts and rice.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
The food was not bad. Had a lavender sunset drink. It was nice. Ordered the spicy Korean wings(definitely not spicy), for the entree we had the crab cake and the short ribs. The short rib was tender but needed more seasoning. Was not crazy about the mash potatoes. It looked more like grits and had no flavor. The crab cake was definitely my favorite. Great portion and definitely all crab. Enjoyed the fried rice and the green beans were nice and crunchy.
google avatar

Danielle J.

Yelp
The hidden gem of Shem. Nice spacious interior inside with a 180 windowed view of Shem creek with a couple tables outside. The fried chicken and waffles had great flavor. The ahi app was good and fresh. The menu is a little all over the place, looking forward to going back and finding something that tickles the tastebuds more.
google avatar

Chelsea H.

Yelp
This was our first time checking this place out. We sat on the patio since the weather was great. It was too dark to see the water, but I bet it's a great view of Shem creek during the day. Service was not great, we felt forgotten many times, and it took a long time to get our order started and drinks were not refilled. The menu has some great selections. I didn't expect such an Asian inspired menu. The fried oyster and bang bang shrimp app were awesome but pretty pricy. Most of us also enjoyed sushi as an entree. I had the veggie roll and really liked it. I would 100% come back, just hoping for better service.
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
Awesome!! The food service and views were wonderful. I regret taking so long to come check this restaurant out. Great indoor and outdoor seating. Their inside bar in a rotunda was also very cool. Great place for a cozy winter day. I loved their Avo toast and their take on a Cuban was tasty! They have their own parking lot as well.
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
Incredible view, mediocre food and service. If you are looking for a great view and a calmer side of Shem creek, this is a great spot. However, despite the r place being 1/2 empty, the waiter was trying to move us in and out quickly-too quickly. The avocado toast was okay-but the bread was super thing white bread-nothing special about it that made it worth $15. I would recommend they use a better quality bread and perhaps serve a side salad with it. It was very disappointing. My friend had the eggs Benedict and they looked good, but again nothing to write home about. The worst part was paying in cash and having them come back with two 10s and 2 1son a 28$ tab leaving us to be forced to tip with $10 or $2 and saying they had no other change. Not a good position to be in. Will I return? -possibly, but I doubt it-too many other good spots with good views, good food and great service.

Yelp
My girlfriends and I decided to try brunch at Mill Street Tavern since one friend had a gift card from there. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros Tostadas which had Sunny-Side Eggs, Guacamole, Black Bean Purée, Carlos' Hot Sauce, Cotija cheese and grilled steak. It was something i normally wouldn't order but I'm so glad I did, it was soooo good! I ate every single bit of it. Yum. Also, I wanted to make a special note that the service was great too! My friends gift card was from several years ago and it didn't work in their new system, so a manager came over and asked us how much the gift card was for and immediately applied it to our bill with no questions asked. He was so incredibly polite about it! I will definitely be going back!

Yelp
The good news..view is great. 12:30 lunch... . Place has only 10 customers. Wife and I Ordered a breakfast plate, Large salad, a Margaret and water. Bacon as too salty, toast was a vegan type tasted horrible, eggs had no taste. Place next door was full with people, however. When I got the check, then I knew why. My bill before tip, was $60.00!! No, really! I was flabbergasted. I asked to see the actual bill. I could not believe it. $2 extra for toast, $2 extra for a different tequila, on top of the $15.00 initial cost. Prices were off the wall. I wanted to like this place because of the reviews, but really, I've eaten better for less at many other places. Will not go back. Frank G. Ps 2 stars are for the waitress. Felt sorry for her having to work there. Of course gave her 20%.

Yelp
Dedicated GF fryer. I had the fried pickles which were amazing. Gluten free bun options. My boyfriend had the meatloaf and said it was delicious. Great deck seating. Staff was very friendly and accommodating of my allergy. (They have the good ice)
google avatar

Jessie C.

Yelp
Wow! What a great experience I had here! I made a reservation but it was unnecessary since there was still lots of seating for the middle of the week. We sat outside and had an amazing view of Shem Creek and the Ravenel Bridge. We ordered several different margaritas which were strong but delicious. My friend got the Mac and cheese with chicken and it was a huge portion. We split a Philly roll and a shrimp tempura roll, all of which tasted so good! Our waitress, Julie, was so nice and patient as we decided what we wanted to order. She checked on us frequently and our drinks were never empty. The whole restaurant has a very nice ambiance and I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Leesa D.

Yelp
Nothing at all special. The food was very underseasoned. The chairs were uncomfortable. The menu had no real theme or continuity.
google avatar

Fran S.

Yelp
Location, location, location! 5 for location. Beautiful spot on Shem Creek. If it's warm you can sit outside. If cooler there are great two person tables (like a bar) facing the creek. Parking is free - not always a given in Charleston. The scramble Skillet is huge. Would definitely recommend sharing. I grabbed some of the tomatoes from my husbands huevos rancheros tostado and it was the perfect touch. The week before I had bang bang shrimp. It was good but I've had better in Charleston. Mimosas were good but unfortunately they don't have carafes. Food - I've reviewed a lot of restaurants in Charleston and would put this at a 3.5. Good food and I'll be back. Service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
Very average food in a very beautiful setting. We sat on the porch and the views of the marsh and Shem Creek were absolutely stunning. The Bloody Maria I had was thick, but served in the cutest tiki glass. The spicy tuna salad hardly had any tuna in it, definitely not worth $25. I would go back for the views and a coupe of beers, but was underwhelmed by the cocktails and food.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Terrific Salmon Reuben! The shrimp po boy was loaded with medium size shrimp. The Korean fried chicken sandwich was also a home run. Party of three all enjoyed along with great service
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
First visit here and we were seated with an awesome view of Shem Creek. The food was great. We had fries and Warm crab dip for an appetizer. They were both great. I got the spiked pumpkin spice Latte. Awesome seasonal drink! My husband got the pulled pork sandwich which comes with fries and pickled onions and pickles. He enjoyed it. I got the fried oyster po boy that came with fries and it was great. We also ordered the Apple cider beignets to go. Overall a great restaurant with a great view. We truly enjoyed it.

Mark C.

Yelp
Very dissatisfied with our visit yesterday. The food and service appeared to be slipping the past couple of times we've been here, but yesterday was inexcusably bad. You almost have to work to deliver food this poorly done. Four drinks and two appetizers for almost $100. The fried oysters were 95% overcooked bread and 5% overcooked oyster. The service was incredibly slow despite the place being virtually empty. Don't waste your time or money here. There are plenary of other restaurants in Mt. Pleasant that are far superior.
google avatar

L B.

Yelp
Great Shem Creek option "up the creek" away from the madness of clump of other eateries...still a beautiful water view and food equal footing as competition! Service was good.... slower, but I'm guessing because it was a full house, with not enough wait staff.
google avatar

Teresa F.

Yelp
The best brunch I've had in Charleston in awhile. Great diverse menu (we had a pescatarian, a gluten-free, a seafood allergy, and both egg cravings and aversions but everyone was delighted. Sushi was large and super fresh. Fresh crab and spicy tuna roll was fantastic. Great fried shrimp sandwich (I can't call it a Po Boy as it's served on a delicious brioche bun). Spicy Bloody Reapers in fun glass had a good kick. And the atmosphere is just Lowcountry perfection. Our server was delightful and skilled.

Yelp
Just wanted a nice local place to eat for the evening to have something to do. This place was definitely not what I expected but in the best way possible. They have an incredible window seating area that would make peanuts and beer enjoyable The sushi part of the menu was a pleasant surprise so I went for the crab cerviche to knock out my seafood hankering and stick with the menu theme. However, a couple next to me got the ribs and I believe nachos and that looked divine. And you absolutely cannot skip out on the chocolate heaven. Even if you are stuffed take it to go!! The hosts were incredibly nice even when they seemed so busy they took the time to take care of me and my waitress was perfect

Yelp
I feel like leaving an old "Dear Abby"-like review. I'd call myself "confused in Mount Pleasant". I'm trying to understand a few things from tonight... ...a tavern that makes a TERRIBLE burger (dry, overcooked when I was asked how I wanted it cooked and I said "medium") and TERRIBLE chicken sandwich (breading was thicker than the meat) ...a tavern that makes GREAT sushi and bang-bang shrimp ...leaves me completely confused. Add in that we were seated outside and they would NOT remove the plastic tarp (after we asked) which was covering where were seated so we could enjoy the breeze when it is 85 degrees outside Would NOT go back with so many other great eateries in the area.

Yelp
Great brunch: Chicken and Waffle Sandwich and Huevos Rancheros are must haves! Great Drinks: the Holy Water is spicy and so yummy! Still refreshing but with a little kick. Great Company: it's dog friendly on the rooftop! What more could you ask for!? Highly recommend!

Yelp
We've been to Mill Street Tavern many times for dinner but this was our first time there for brunch. I'm always a fan of their drinks. My go to is the dark & stormy. The margaritas are also great. We got the bang bang shrimp and Cinnamon roll as apps. The shrimp is in a delicious sweet tangy sauce. We got the Chipotle sauce on the side in case it was spicy but it's also very mild. The cinnamon roll was amazing but I'm not sure any cinnamon rolls aren't amazing... Mill St is very accommodating with their menu. Some of us don't eat meat so they made the shrimp and grits for me without the meat and swapped salmon on the Ceasar salad instead of chicken. The portion sizes are always very generous here. The highlight of the meal were the French fries. They were cooked perfectly and a fun shape always tastes better. The salmon Reuben was fantastic. I would never think to put salmon on a sandwich and it's not something you see often but I hope this stays on the menu. The service has always been good here and it's one of my favorite places to eat on Shem Creek/ one of the best views.

Yelp
Great food, beautiful ambiance, great service! I got the soy glazed salmon with coconut rice and the Brussel sprouts (all of which were fantastic- especially the Brussel sprouts)! For reference, I don't like Brussel sprouts, so that's saying something. My BF got the fried chicken dinner with Brussel sprouts and rice, all of which he enjoyed. His only complaint was that the chicken could have been thicker and maybe a little more seasoning/sauce. For drinks, we got the dark n stormy and the lavender drink (I forget what it was called). Both were delicious (and very aesthetic, if that's your thing haha). The restaurant was kind of tucked away on shem creek, I'd say on the "quieter side" but I'm not a local so honestly not sure if that's true or not. Views were spectacular. Definitely would come back!

Yelp
We've been here in a few occasions, one of our favorite places to take visitors. Great food, drinks, and always good service. The sushi is great, but so are the entrees. Love the painkillers, they actually use Pusser's rum too!
