On the Grid : Monk's Kettle

"Monk's kettle is a gastro pub at its finest. They have 28 draft beers and another 180 bottled so you're sure to find a brew for every palate. Their food is hearty and delicious, they do meat quite well and their kitchen is open later than most restaurants. Its often a favorite place to wrap up a night!" - Avocados and Coconuts

The Monk's Kettle - Review - Rockridge - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Monk’s Kettle has made its way to Rockridge after closing its Mission location in 2023. The East Bay version of this tavern has 26 beers on tap, burgers, and other dishes like pretzel rolls, chicken caesar salad, and steak frites. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Decent food and nice ambience but the service was rushed and almost non-existent. Stopped in for lunch today as I was craving for a burger. Been wanting to try this spot out ever since it moved into the neighborhood. When I walked in, the place was empty but it was fairly early (before noon). Cute rustic feel with lots of tables, booths, and a nice corner bar. Wouldn’t say that I was greeted warmly, but I was greeted. The lady who helped me wasn’t rude but she wasn’t friendly. Skipped the beer since this was a work lunch but opted for an iced tea and the smash burger. The food prices are actually in line with many of the other burger spots on the block which is convenient. The smash burger was just okay. They use a soft potato bun which has a tendency to disintegrate when there’s sauce on it. It got soggy and messy super fast. A crisper bun would be ideal for this kind of burger in my opinion. Burger patty has nice flavor and it was juicy. The fries were super salty but still good. The service is where this place is failing. Not once did my server come back to check in on me to see how I was doing. She waited until I was mid bite to ask me if I wanted anything else and all I could do was nod my head no since my mouth was full. Then she left the check on the table as I was still chomping. I guess I didn’t get my card out fast enough for her because next thing you know, she comes back to my table with a tablet and says that I can just tap my card to pay. What if I was paying with cash? There were literally only 3 other parties in the restaurant and it wasn’t busy at all. What’s the rush? I definitely felt like she was trying to get me out of there fast. So yeah… first impression was not a good one. This should really be a 2 star review, but given the ambience and also the fact that I didn’t try any of the beer here yet, I’ll round up to 3. At the point, I have no plans on returning. I’ll just stick to my old and faithful Ben N’ Nicks down the block and keep it moving.

Solid food with interesting flavors and a FANTASTIC beer list! It's incredible how many different beers these guys have on draft let alone their gigantic list of bottles. As for the food, I really liked both the bricked chicken sandwich and the chicken Caesar. The chicken sandwich was juicy and flavorful without feeling overly greasy like a fried chicken sandwich would. The Caeser salad was also interesting -- the flavors weren't nearly as strong as a traditional caeser you'd get at another restaurant and they used a cabbage blend rather than romaine, but I really liked the crunch and the unique spin Monk's Kettle put on it. I've also sat inside and at the patio out back, and both are lovely! Overall this is a fun spot to stop into if you want a place with a wide selection of beers and unique food options.

Google
Solid gastro pub in the cozy Rockridge neighborhood. Menu is small, but the signature Steak Frites was an easy choice (make sure to order your fries extra crispy — the dish is JUICY!). Ordered the charred octopus on the recommendation of the waitress, and it was an excellent suggestion. The octopus was tender and full of flavor. The waitstaff was attentive, if a bit overeager, but it’s awesome to have a place like this open late. I’m sure their burger or chicken sandwich would be perfect after a night out.

Great New Spot, but Missing the Old Favorites We lived just two blocks away from The Monk’s Kettle in the Mission and were regulars there, so we were sad to see it close earlier this year. Coincidentally, we moved to the East Bay just a couple of months after they closed the Mission location, so we were excited to see them reopen in Rockridge and finally made it in for dinner. The new spot has a similar cozy vibe but was packed, which is great to see. It feels like they’ve found a better fit here with a more family-friendly crowd and a great location. The back patio looks charming—we sat at the bar this time but will definitely try it next time. As for the food, it was solid but didn’t fully capture the magic of the Mission menu. I got the bricked chicken sandwich, which was flavorful and had some of the familiar tastes we loved, but I really miss the fried chicken sandwich from the old location. My girlfriend had the Monk’s Burger, which tasted just as good as we remembered. The fries, though, were a bit disappointing. These are denser, skinny fries—likely the same as their Terra Linda location—and don’t compare to the amazing Kennebec hop salt fries they had in SF. The bartender explained their fryer situation is smaller here, which might explain the change, but we really miss those fries. It’s great to see them thriving in this new home, and we’ll definitely be back. Still holding out hope that the fried chicken sandwich and those perfect fries might make a comeback someday!

Google
I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad over the phone for takeout. The woman who took my call was very friendly, and my order was ready in just ten minutes, great service. The salad included warm chicken thigh, green cabbage, red radishes, celery, parsley, cheese, and Caesar dressing (I opted out of the breadcrumbs). The flavor overall was really good, the chicken was crispy, warm and well-seasoned, and the dressing brought everything together nicely. However, for $23 plus tax, I expected fresher ingredients. The green cabbage was disappointing, many pieces had darkened edges, giving the impression it had been prepped too far in advance or wasn't stored properly. For this price point, I’d expect freshly shredded cabbage, not something that looked and felt like fridge leftovers. Should I give them another chance? Maybe.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner this evening at The Monk's Kettle! The beer selection was amazing and food was just delicious. My husband had the burger and he said it was cooked perfectly. I had the chicken sandwich with an incredible kale side salad and both were so yummy! Usually a side salad seems like an after-thought in many restaurants but the salad here was so interesting, fresh and tasty! The host and wait staff were so kind and efficient. We will be back!

The chicken sando was really good, they have a great selection of beers too.

Google
So happy Monk’s Kettle made its way to Oakland—now I can skip the bridge traffic and enjoy the good stuff right in my own backyard! They’ve brought all their original charm with them—friendly, knowledgeable staff who are great at helping you find the perfect drink, and food that totally delivers. The manager is super approachable and clearly pours a lot of heart into the place—and into his team. You can really feel the care in every detail. Oakland’s lucky to have this spot!

Yelp
As expected, amazing beer selection! And the food was pretty good too! We came during SF Beer Week and they had a ton of interesting sour beers on the menu. They also had a cookie & beer pairing (3 options) -- we did one (they were a bit pricey each), but it was a super good and unique macadamia nut cookie with sage & brown butter icing, paired with a strong and tasty imperial golden beer. The mac & cheese with bacon, pretzel roll with cheese sauce, potato & leek soup, and chicken sandwich and fries were all quite tasty, decent sized portions, and had great flavors. The grilled octopus had a nice flavor but was a little mushy, which wasn't great. The service was not great as we had to wait really long times for water refills and the bill. Plus the cookie from our pairing came out 10 minutes before the beer did, which was pretty annoying. Still, great food & drink make up for that quite a bit.

Yelp
What an incredible find! We've been locals in the neighborhood for many years, and this spot in Rockridge is easily one of the best we've ever experienced. The food? Absolutely amazing. The flavors were spot on, and every bite felt like a treat. And the service? Top-notch! Travis and Lorraine were an absolute delight--superb in every way. It's such a joy to have a place like this right here in the neighborhood. Can't wait to come back for more good vibes, great food, and wonderful service!

Yelp
I had high hopes since I'm familiar with the SF location, and I agree with the general sentiment here regarding the staff and service. We walked in early on a Friday around 11:30 AM for a table for two, without a reservation. I asked to sit by the window but was told all those tables were reserved--even though the restaurant was nearly empty at the time. Fine, but does that mean reservations allow you to request specific seating? Seemed odd. When ordering, I requested a side of chicken thigh, as listed on the menu, but received breast instead. Again, fine--but if they're not able to keep consistent on their offering, maybe just leave that detail off the menu? The Greek salad was good, and the crispy chickpea croutons were a nice touch. The mushroom toast was delicious. The potato leek soup, however, was just okay--it could have used more flavor, especially for the price. I lunch in Rockridge regularly since moving from the city four years ago, and I was surprised to see their suggested tip range was quite high given the mediocre service. Overall, I'm not sure this is a standout spot on College Ave.

Yelp
A hesitant five stars from me. The good: Food was well plated and tasty. Despite being full, it did not feel crowded. If you're looking for fine dining with both tables and bar it brought that and felt both classy and casual. The bad: Pricy enough that I would not go here on a 'regular' night but not really nice enough to be an extra night out. Staff didn't refill our water and the bill did that suggested 20% tip thing when we were a small party of three. 20 minute wait for a table. Despite that^^ I think it earns its five and a recommendation.

Yelp
Went to Rockridge for some walking around and browsing/shopping but needed a snack and didn't realize The Monk's Kettle was now in Oakland. I have been to the San Francisco location and remembered they had a great beer selection, but was doubly excited for the food! I got a Vienna lager from Urban Roots and we shared the burger (which you could tweak to be an impossible burger) and it came with fries, soup, or Kale salad. We had it with the potato leek and all of it was delicious. The space was styled nicely and they have a large outdoor space in the back. Service was quick and helpful, and we were checked in with often for more water, if we wanted anything else, and for the check. Would recommend, especially if you love beer!

Yelp
We walked past this place as they were freshly painting the establishment's sign. It's a relatively new establishment, but not a new business. We took a quick peek at the menu and decided that we'd have to come back. We were in the mood for breakfast/brunch, and the (current) menu is pretty solidly in the lunch and dinner neck of the woods. The following week we decided to check it out for dinner. Reservations (currently via OpenTable) are highly recommended, but we were fortunate enough that the hostess was able to accomodate us at the bar even as walk-ins. This place is one of the most home-y and welcoming establishments we've seen in years. Every single person we encountered working there - from the busser to the owner - were absolutely pleasant and joyful. Service was fabulous, and the food was tasty. The menu is meant to be (and is!) delicious, but simple and unpretentious. It was so good on so many levels that we came back for lunch the next day. Again, it would have been lovely if they offered more brunch-like offerings (and could even have some strong competition for some of the breakfast places nearby), but we ended up with a veggie burger and the veggie sandwich. This time we sat outside on the back patio, which was woody and cozy, and again, we felt like we were among friends. This is our new favourite neighborhood haunt, and we'll be back - again and again. Oh, word to the wise - if you order the pretzel roll(s), do yourself a favor, and get two. It's a better deal, and if you only get one, it'll be gone before you know it, and you'll be jonesing for a second.

Yelp
Welcoming space with an extensive beer selection. They didn't ask how we wanted our burgers cooked and one of them showed up extremely rare. Just know going in to state your preference. The quality of the ingredients was top-notch. I upgraded from the housemade chips to fries (+$5) but after tasting the chips, I'll go with those in the future. I also upgraded to add avocado and the avocado was just perfect and added a lot to the burger. While we were there, quite a few people walked in and ordered food to go and had a beer while they waited. Not a bad way to go!

Yelp
So excited they are open in Rockridge. I'm not sure but I don't recall the menu in SF being so good! I waffled between all the salads, even considering a sandwich! I rarely do a sandwich. But everything looks good. The three of us settled for two Salad Niçoise and a Smash burger. Grabbed a few beers and shared some hop fries. Didn't get a burger review but the salad was excellent. The fish pieces were generous and dressing very good! The fries don't need extra salt, love that! We sat in the back heated and covered patio. There's a lot more seating than the front suggests. There's two bathrooms. The left one is tiny, just. FYI. Excited to go back for the mushroom toast, Caesar and Greek salads and of course, their delicious beer selections!

Yelp
Food is great, service is fantastic, ambience nice, hours are spectacular! Loved this place when it was in the mission - was psyched to learn it was moving to my neighborhood in Oakland! It's a go-to spot, for sure!

Yelp
I'm so confused by this place. Maybe just because they're new but I've had wildly different takeout experiences each time. First order was great - hot, fresh, tasty, ready for me at the front counter. The host grabbed some utensils for me. Fantastic. Second order - good food, but weird service. I waited up front for 5 mins, host was in the back but two other staff stared at me while not saying anything. Kind of rude, a hello welcome would go a long way. I also wish the double order of rolls came with double the sauce, because otherwise you have to pay for extra. Third order- weird. The staff member was friendly but had me sign a receipt (not done before) with an option for tip, even though I'd already tipped online. I asked for utensils and they said they don't have them. Odd because I got them last week, and also why would you not offer utensils for takeout orders?! Also no napkins included. The pretzel rolls were not at all hot (even though I arrived before ETA) and they tasted quite stale. Sad :(

Yelp
Disappointing. The beer pours average $8.50. A glass of wine, including the two on tap, is $15-16. Unreasonable. The burger is too soft and too wet. They said it came medium and it was pink all the way through. The fries were basic. Nothing special, nothing compelling. Poor ambiance during my visit. Boisterous and obnoxious employees in a quiet room. The imported beer menu is excellent.

Yelp
I went here twice for lunch. Great service, super pleasant atmosphere, and the lunch I had was fantastic! I you go here for lunch, I recommend the Monk's Burger or the Bricked Chicken Sandwich. The Bricked Chicken was the best chicken sandwich I ever ate! Well done!

Delicious food, great service. Kirby is a fantastic bartender. Ambiance is eclectic, everything is clean.

Yelp
Ok folks this is an emergency cry for help, I never ever leave a bad review. Three couples sitting at the bar. And then me. I barely got service. The food is sub par. Ive been here twice and unfortunately the service and food just don't hold up. Glass of wine, pretzel and burger came to $53. Servers, hosts and bartenders PLEASE pay attention to single folks, we deserve attention too!

Yelp
Monk's Kettle is a great little mission neighborhood bar! They have a HUGE beer menu. In my opinion the food is just alright, but the beer selection and cute outdoor patio make it great. Friendly staff. I love a sour beer and they have plenty to choose from! Interesting that they serve them from a wine glass, but delicious nonetheless. I've dined in and ordered takeout, so I've tried a few of their food items. My personal favorite is the Soft Pretzel. Each pretzel comes with a really good beer cheese and spicy mustard. The other items I've tried have just been okay. The Monks Burger, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Mixed Greens Salad and Fries.

Yelp
An amazing bar for beer, bottle and draft. Lots of rare beers. Honestly, who has ABT12 on tap? These guys! Several Russian River brews as well. Draft wine too. Great fries. The SF beer scene will miss y'all. Good luck in The Town.

Yelp
Went in for lunch. Service was good, server was fun and energetic. Looks like it would be a fun spot to check out on a weekend. The bar had a lot of beer options! The brussels and they were really delicious. Super crispy and charred and well seasoned. The fries were well cooked and nice and crunchy. The kale salad was good. It had a coriander seasoning which was a nice twist to a regular kale salad.

Yelp
Hasn't missed a beat in their move to Rockridge! Knowledgeable staff, tasty food, and playlist is still on point. Definitely less cramped than their previous location, especially with the awesome back patio now open! As a prior Mission resident who frequented MK for years, it is amazing to have them in my new neighborhood

Guy B.

Yelp
We split the Monks Burger and the oysters and enjoyed the guava beer and Reality Check Pilsner. The burger was super tasty with the quality of the meat really coming through nicely. It was an afternoon delight having no wait at 3:30pm and easy street parking.

Jessica T.

Yelp
Had the burger, salad, pickled veggies. Really great flavors though the ambience was a bit sterile. Fun selection of beers.
google avatar

Yelp
The late night stop. My wife and I stopped in after a show in the Theater District - wanted a late bite and a beer. We had the Seared Ahi sandwich and the Fried Chicken sandwich, and were really pleased with both. And the fact that it's open late, staff is friendly and easygoing, and it's a cool neighborhood vibe (Mission almost at the Castro district) make it the perfect late night eats tavern. We'll be back.
google avatar

Dave W.

Yelp
Another visit to Monk's Kettle and it was good - not great, but definitely good. The beer selection is excellent (one of our son's favorite places) and the food is above average. We opted for Tomato Soup, Fried Chicken Sandwiches, Fries and Pretzel Rolls. Everything was tasty and hot and the place was hopping. The pretzels were especially good! Overall, a good experience and we hope to visit again on our next trip to SF.

Emma M.

Yelp
Went in to dine, the food was not the best. But the main issue was after we paid we had a waiter standing over us as my group was chatting and then proceeded to ask us to leave since they needed the table. Which never in my whole life i have had someone ask to leave like that, very unprofessional. Will definitely not come back.

Yelp
So happy to have this new spot from the Mission in our neighborhood. I have met one of the owners, Nat, the servers, Travis and jomo and they're all top-notch. Service is often so weak in the Bay Area compared to the East Coast and these guys know what they're doing not to mention, the food is great and there's a very well curated, dense beer and wine menu.., you could get beers here that you can't find anywhere else like the German Rauchbier. I just left a one star review for aCôte, which I shared the completely contrasting experiences i had here versus there. As Soon as we walked into monks kettle we were greeted, the servers listened very closely to what we were looking for, gave us samples of the beer and shared conversation with us. I was here couple weeks ago when they were opening with several friends and we had a great time. You should check it out ...you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Venice Beach Dad K.

Yelp
Food and wine list weren't even close to the SF location, ...including the burger! Unfortunately we wont be going back.

Patrick S.

Yelp
I liked the SF spot, but the new digs in Oakland are much more comfortable. Same great beer list and the food menu is very nice, but having more space makes for a better experience. I don't love how they charge $8-9 for a 13 ounce draft pour of a beer that you can get a pint of for the same price elsewhere in Rockridge. Blind Pig isn't hard to find anymore.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
Great addition to Rockridge. We went early on a Sunday evening and were able to get a table on the lovely back patio. Highly recommend the mushroom toast, I'll be returning for that. Also, of course, a great beer selection. Seems as if they were filling up, so plan ahead if you're going at a popular day/time.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
This place was great! Small but honestly just a great fit for our group of 5. We came in to watch the game on a Sunday and it was great. The food and drinks here are great! We honestly eat for a few hours. This is a great place to share and try different things! So many. The burger is as good as it looks in the photos. Staff was attentive. We did have one issues on the food but when we informed them they fixed it so fast. We will be back again and again. This area has so many great spots!!!

Jannelly S.

Yelp
Monks Kettle is one of the VERY few places with knowledgeable employees and good service. I also really appreciate that they have a great wine selection along with their beers as I can't have gluten but wanna hang out too! My friends all raved about the food. Thanks for coming to College Ave!

Tasha L.

Yelp
Amazing! So thrilled MK has moved to the East Bay. Just went there and it did not disappoint. The Nicoise Salad is everything you need. The fries are perfection. The pretzels roll with beer cheese is a must for starting any meal! The atmosphere and service is perfect for a Saturday night out with the family (friends, or a date)-everyone was happy, comfortable, and well fed.

david s.

Yelp
The old Mission Days reincarnated on College Ave! Welcome to Oakland! Fantastic burger, tasty fries, delish mushroom toast for our vegetarian friends and awesome beer selection served with a big smile. Hip location, great layout, very cool spot! Ambiance is great balance between pub and fine dining restaurant. Just right.
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
Fantastic addition to College Avenue. TMK has a great selection of beers on tap--a perfect mix of local craft brews and tasty imports. Excellent snacks, salads, and entrees, too, with fast & friendly service. Nice to see their impressive wooden bar shelves relocated from SF to Oakland! Looking forward to checking out their new patio as well.
google avatar

Ewa U.

Yelp
Service here is top notch and the draft beer selection on point. My hubby and and I were having a terrible/emotional day resulting w myself crying at the table. The lovely gentleman working the digs basically threw our order on the house. Thank you kind man for your compassion; we can't wait to come back under better circumstances and try the rest of your menu. Crying aside - the menu offers a variety of 'all American' items sure to satisfy each and everyone of your friends. Cheers

Yelp
This place is slipping, glad I won't have to keep seeing its decline cuz it's leaving the Mission. Oakland is gonna tear this place apart ha. The staff is incredibly friendly, which is why it hurts me to do the Yelp thing. Well, except for that guy who seems high all the time and seems irritated that we came in, or want to order food, or need anything from him at all. He sucks. He's also the only person you deal with sometimes. We walk in at 5, only one patron at a table, a handful sitting at the bar. Took us 5 minutes to get seated. Thing about this spot is that if you do anything to irritate the staff and they'll put you on "the wait list" which is you standing there while they don't help you for however long they feel like. So we stood there waiting to be acknowledged, took 5 mins. Again, 5pm, empty tables, we were told that they can squeeze us in but we have to be gone by 7. Seriously, if you don't want us there, just close and lock the doors to collect your hourly wage. Switch to delivery only or whatever. Then you won't have to deal with customers! We get seated, peruse the menu, sit for 10 minutes until the same guy who sat us came over to take our order. Well, we assumed take our order, because he didn't actually say anything to us. He stood over us with his hands behind his back, nodding as we spoke, and took our menus from our hands when it seemed like we were done. No confirmation, no communication, no service. Give me a kiosk next time. At least the kiosk will say "thanks for your order customer #10345!" Beers show up. Incredible! Their IPA selection hasn't changed in a few years but they're in a state of transition and Russian River is solid so I'll forgive it. Food shows up, it's always cold for some reason but it still tastes good so we keep coming back. You know, I was honestly planning on letting everything go that we experienced this far, but then we got the bill. Two beers and two burgers in the Mission costs $85 now. Except it doesn't, Zeitgeist is a few blocks away and you can get the same thing for half the price. They added so many fees and different percentage charges to our bill that compounded into an absolutely staggering amount. Give me good service, good food, good drinks, I'll pay. I have over 500 bookmarks on Yelp alone, I will want not for these places. This is no longer one of them. The default tip percentage is 25% on their little pay tablet. Deliver what you expect, please, or bump that down. Again, wanna support local, but you're bleeding your locals dry trying to make a statement. Find another way to bleed the techies. Find another way to short change your staff to the point that they don't even function. Don't pretend like you're doing your best anymore and charging appropriately, you're not.

Yelp
Jesse was a huge help in suggesting substitutions for my dad and I's order. The ambience is cozy and inviting. The taste of the food was satisfying and will definitely come back. Open until 11 PM. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Ordered take out and did not receive the crispy wings as pictured online. I'm super disappointed and was really looking forward to that item. The pretzel was very good. I'd go back for that,
google avatar

Jack R.

Yelp
Lamb burger was sooo dry. Monks burger was sooo mediocre. Crispy wings such a rip off with barely any flavor or crunch. I have no idea why this spot has such high ratings. Maybe after you've had a few libations you won't notice or care about your dry flavorfulless food, but we noticed. Skip this place for their burgers and go to Wes Burgers instead. Also, to our crappy server who we constantly had to chase down, had a grumpy attitude, nd could barely get silverware or water out to us...you should seriously reconsider how your customers feel. I know because I was a waiter in college and bro, you wouldn't make the cut where I worked.

John R.

Yelp
Great place for dinner when I can get a spot at the bar. Wish the bar had more seating for solo dinners, especially when there's a good game on their TV. The grilled chicken sandwich with the small side soup is great, as is the seared ahi salad.

Yelp
Second visit to The Monk's Kettle and it was as good as we remembered. Small indoor location but they have a pretty large outdoor area that they said was heated--we sat inside. Took a little while for us to get attention after being seated but then we realized the whole place was being handled by 2 guys--who were working their asses off! Once we got or order placed, food came quickly and the service was excellent. The two guys could have been grumpy about having to work so hard--they were the opposite. Seemed to be genuinely enjoying their jobs and were very friendly with the guests. The soft-pretzel app is so damn good...especially with the beer cheese that comes on the side. The pickle jar is also nice. Went with the grilled cheese with brussel sprouts for an entree and it did not disappoint. Huge. Tasty. Sprouts were well seasoned and prepared. Extensive beer menu but we'd just had cocktails at ABV across the street and didn't feel in a beer mood after that.

Yelp
Happy to have MK back in our lives now that we're in the east bay! Went with our kids -- it was easy - the mix of adult and kid menu food was served quickly enough (iykyk), and the window seats + crayons made for all the meal entertainment we needed. Still enjoy the food and drinks! Curious to see how the menu evolves.

Yelp
Food was amazing such a great staff. We split the Lamb Burger and Monk's Burger both had their own unique flavors which complemented them in their own way. The ambiance is always warm and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the neighborhood. Huge shout out to Lomo for always taking care of us and making us feel like family.

Yelp
SF's loss is Oakland's gain! So happy to see this new location. Food was delicious. The kale salad is so refreshing and the fries are a must! Looking forward to their menu expansion as they settle into.

Yelp
Good beer selections, but overall color me disappointed. A broad variety of beer, so this is a chance to do some tasting of varieties you may not have tried before. But... the pours are small, averaging 13 oz. And the price per pour was on par for what most bars charge for a full pint. The setting for the bar is great, long counter with ornate wood carving holding the glasses. But the overhead sconces are too bright, I'll bring my Ballers cap next time. We initially thought to sit at a table, but the smell of disinfectant from the bathroom was really strong. Not that anyone doesn't appreciate a clean bathroom, but we're there to smell and taste the beer. We ordered Monk burgers, which had good meat taste but which were marred by coming out warm, not hot, cheese not melted, and with *shredded* lettuce. Whole leaves are better, they don't fall out of the bun.

Yelp
This place rocks. After walking about 10 blocks on a rare hot San Francisco day we were thirsty and peckish but couldn't seem to find what we were looking for. Then we passed by this place. I looked at the menu, the beer selection, and the outdoor seating and i thought out loud, this is it! Outdoor seating was perfect on this beautiful day. What's even nicer is that it's on a little quiet side street away from the busy foot traffic. Awesome. Loved the beer selection. Great choices on tap and great overall selection. I'm a sucker for Belgian beer and this place has a nice selection. Chicken wings.. yummy! Really crispy and I love that they put the sauces on the side. Asian Chicken salad..yummy! Loved the addition of the shiitake mushrooms. French fries with aioli.. yummy! Pretzel with mustard and CHEESE sauce.. yummy! Food is damn good here. Great quality. Our server was great. He was nice, knowledgeable, friendly, and he really made our overall experience wonderful. Thank you for a great day! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
After months of wanting to try this place, I finally had the chance to visit. I had a friend visiting from Kentucky and suggested we try this restaurant and bar. We walked in today on a rainy day, and the place was pretty empty. Some people sitting at the bar, and a party of two sitting in the restaurant side. The sign stated to 'wait for the host to be seated' and for 5 minutes without acknowledgement, even with the short lady bartender making eye-contact with us, and us being the only two people waiting to be seated-- the same short bartender lady finally then says 'hi' and we ask if we can 'dine-in'. She then said, 'sure, take a seat near the window' in which we thought was the booth near the window. She then raised her voice and stated 'NO, THAT OTHER TABLE' (and I am not being dramatic either, she literally raised her voice at us). Both my friend who is visiting from Kentucky and I are both Managers in the Restaurant industry- and we both just looked at each other in disbelief after this lady spoke to us in the way that she did. We discussed whether or not we still wanted to dine-in... we decided, absolutely not. I am very disappointed in the unprofessionalism demonstrated by this lady bartender, the unwelcoming attitude, and this overall experience. With the many selection of restaurants and bars cascaded throughout our beautiful city, the last thing a customer deserves is to feel unwelcome and to be spoken to in a rude way. The bartender needs to check her attitude because it really is not acceptable and a shame. First impressions are everything, especially in our industry.

Yelp
Perhaps the pending change of locations has caused kind of a disconnected between service and quality of food. Would've like to try this before closing. Likely will not visit second location.

Yelp
Nice discovery before heading to the Roxie theatre. My husband and I had dinner yesterday evening with a friend of our. I grabbed the lamb burger like my friend, while my husband the beef burger. Both burger were delicious. Two cons: small portion but high price and no side already included. In fact we ordered mac&cheese and the bread pudding for a dessert. This one was amazing (the caramel top was just too sweet for me, but the texture of the pudding was really good). They also have a good selection of beer that my husband and our friend enjoyed. Overall, I enjoyed the food, the ambience and the service (despite the cons mentioned before). I'm sure I'll come back.
