"To see one of Asheville’s signature dusty blue sunsets, there are few better vantage points in town than the Montford. The lounge offers a sleek outdoor patio with views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, and the bar offers tasty small plates like the pretzel baguette, sourced from nearby West End Bakery, and North Carolina cheddar fondue." - Alina Polishuk

"Those who manage to snag a seat here around sunset should consider themselves lucky. This cozy rooftop lounge offers expansive, unparalleled views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains — and the drinks are great, too. The Montford Mule, livened with Devil’s Foot Beverage Co.’s Fuego ginger beer, is a popular choice, and recently, the bar has expanded more into the world of whiskey with specialty barrel picks of Knob Creek Rye. Reservations are recommended, as the rooftop area fills up quickly." - Laura Hackett

Google
We’ve been here several times. This is a review of our most recent visit. Why is this three stars and not five? Certainly the view is outstanding! And the food is good, although you are paying for the view, so the food is expensive, but you’re not really coming for the food, you’re coming for the views and the craft cocktails. The pros are that the bar has valet parking, and there is EV charging, which is great. The view, of course, is a big positive. The drinks are very good. They are consistent with any other craft cocktail bar in town. All the standard high-end elements are here. And the drinks are priced understanding that the view is a big attraction as well. So, certainly not inexpensive but not over the top. Again, consistent with the other craft cocktail places in town. The cons are that there are quite a few tourists, and something really odd happened during what I assume was changeover for the staff. Our server was excellent, and then there was some rumbling and there seemed to be a bit of an argument with the staff, and lots of buzzing and moving and changing while we were there. It was a bit uncomfortable, not quite sure what was happening, or if we was going to get our server back. She disappeared for a long time, but eventually came back. She was excellent! But during that odd shift change out, she was nowhere to be found, and unfortunately, it was our time to go. In fact, we didn’t really see any servers during that shift change out, as they were all in the corner having a conversation, so something must’ve happened. Perhaps they were understaffed, or somebody came in when they weren’t supposed to. But instead of taking a few minutes to resolve, it was a lot of time to resolve. She finally did return, and we were able to get our bill. We will return and hope to come back when it is not as touristy and hopefully we will not encounter this problem again.

My recent visit to Montford Rooftop Bar was nothing short of exceptional, largely thanks to our server, Michelle, whose outstanding service elevated our experience. Michelle went above and beyond by not only attending to our needs but also enhancing our vacation with her local insights. She took the time to recommend three hiking trails for us to explore, which added a personalized touch to our trip. The drinks at Montford Rooftop Bar were delightful, offering a perfect blend of flavors and craftsmanship. However, what truly stole the show was the breathtaking view of the mountains. From our vantage point, we were treated to a panoramic vista that perfectly complemented the ambiance of the bar. Overall, Montford Rooftop Bar provided a memorable experience that exceeded our expectations. Michelle's exceptional service, coupled with delightful drinks and stunning scenery, made our visit one to remember. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a perfect blend of hospitality, taste, and scenery.

We stopped in for drinks and to take in the amazing views! Great place and make sure to try their seasonal sangria and tart cherry cider.

Google
I'm sure this place is busy on sunny days for a couple hours in the evening. The sunset is great. It's really small. Had the sliders and the flatbread. The buns on the sliders will be stale tomorrow. The flatbread would have been amazing had it had some olive oil and maybe some balsamic. It was dry as a chip. It felt like we were there and paying only for the view. Total potential if just a little effort was given.

We just had a wedding shower there and it was fabulous! The staff was so accommodating and helpful; food was excellent. Perfect place for a get together!

Google
Great experience! Bartenders were very knowledgeable. Charcuterie board, mac and cheese, and drinks were great! They didn’t have brisket at the time so we subbed for lobster mac and cheese instead.

Google
Great rooftop bar with amazing views and craft cocktails!! Michelle was our awesome server and suggested many cocktails not on the menu. Exceptional place!!

We came for the view and drinks! Both did not disappoint! Waitress and bartender were great! Highly recommend!

Yelp
The Montford Rooftop Bar has the most beautiful views. They have a small tapas menu if you are in the mood for a small meal. I like their espresso martinis and pretzel bread. The staff is friendly and helpful. I plan to go again next time I am in Asheville.

Yelp
Over priced bar food , go next door to Saprana night and day I'm still trying to get over my mistake of coming here

Yelp
This is a very nice and scenic spot to check out while in Asheville. It's on the 8th floor of the Doubletree Hotel. The scenic view does not face the city, but still has a great view of surrounding Asheville. We got there just in time for sunset. Nice selection of drinks and food.

Yelp
The Montford Rooftop Bar is a fun place to check out for drinks in Asheville. Located on the upper level of the DoubleTree Hotel, it's a bar that has some craft cocktails and if you come here at the right time, you can see the mountains. We were staying at the DoubleTree Hotel, so Montford was super convenient for a night cap. Once you enter the hotel, there is a separate elevator that gets you to Montford. They do have events here, and when we visited during the holiday season, they had seasonal, Christmas cocktails. I loved all the Christmas lights that decked the bar, too. The space is large enough, but the outdoor area for the seating isn't very spacious, so if you want a seat there, get here early. I imagine this is a popular spot at sunset on a clear day. Staff was always friendly when I visited. My favorite cocktail here is the Salted Caramel White Russian, which is super addicting and makes for a great dessert. It's made with Two Trees salted caramel-infused bourbon and Kahlua cream, topped with some caramel popcorn. Mix it up over some ice and you have yourself one, refreshing, post-dinner cocktail. I'd come back to Montford when I'm back in Asheville.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous! We were so surprised to see that it was on the roof top of a Hilton hotel. But oh my gosh, were we shocked! Probably the most beautiful view in Asheville. You got a full view of mountains during the sunset I would recommend this place to anyone who comes to visit Asheville. But note that they only have small bites and appetizers. Definitely not a place for dinner, better for post-dinner, drinks, dessert, or just a small snack.

Liz F.

Yelp
We stopped in for some birthday drinks for my girlfriend and caught the beautiful sunset. Bartenders were very nice and attentive. Can't wait to visit Asheville again! Drinks were on point

Jenna O.

Yelp
This place has an indoor and outdoor space, with large windows and a great view. We weren't able to get a reservation, but we were able to get our name on the list. They had told us about a 30 minute wait, but it was less than 20. I am so excited that we were seated when we were, less than 3 minutes after sitting down, the most beautiful pink flooded over the mountains and we were stunned by the view. Everyone both inside and outside just came out for photos and enjoyed it together. I got a warm cider cocktail (the Porch Warmer) that was super good and perfect for the weather. The other drink we ordered was a very nicely balanced, The Boozy Peach, something with peach in it typically is too sweet but this one was very delightful and balanced. I feel like the photos online are very misleading about quality and what everything looks like when it is served. We saw some photos of specific items and were a little confused on the presentation when they came in person, not that they weren't all delicious, it just doesn't seem very standardized. I wish they had more options for deserts, but they only had their daily cobbler, which said it came with ice cream and I was really disappointed when it came out and it just had whipped cream, again they need to work on their menu because the photos don't match and there are items missing.

Nora E.

Yelp
Beautiful views and the staff were friendly . Food was not great (charcuterie overpriced for the serving size) and the drinks were bad . Got the Sangria and it was terrible. Tastes like watered down capri sun .

Yelp
I recently went to The Montfort Rooftop Bar and I loved how it was decorated for the holidays. It was so cute. And yet I didn't have reservations, I was able to go up and sit at the bar. But if you have a bigger group or it's a busy night, you may want to have reservations as the space isn't that big. After sitting at the bar, I ordered one of their festive holiday drinks after consulting with the bartender to make sure it wasn't too sweet but I could still taste the pineapple. The drink was ok though, the blend was interesting. Now the representative at the front desk of the hotel (this is located inside the Doubletree Hotel with a special elevator in the entrance) told me the flatbread pizza was delicious. So that's what I ordered the pepperoni flatbread. It was so good that I had to order another to go which came in handy the next night. But when no ordered the second pizza, it seemed to be forgotten about. It took FOREVER to get the second. Now I must say I the outside area was cute but it was too cold to be out there. But I'm thinking the views must be beautiful when the sun is shining. Now I stayed at the Doubletree and after a long day out I decided to ordered from The Montford as they deliver to the rooms inside the hotel and charge to the room. I ordered a Caesar salad which was disgusting (I'm so glad I ordered the second pizza). Also I ordered a Mexican Sprite in which I received a regular Sprite. And I ordered a spring water and got a sparkling water (spring is on the menu). I called back to complain about the water as I do not drink sparkling water at all. The lady hung up the phone. I called back and she said we only have sparkling. So I told them to refund me which they did. They receive this 3 start rating (I wish I could give 2.5) for the slowness on bringing out the second pizza, mixing up my water (fix your menu), the nasty salad and hanging up on me.

Yelp
This is a great spot to have a view of Asheville, especially as the Sun is setting! Tips: I made my reservation as soon as we were going to be in town. Had read that that the food is not the best so we ate a snack before and planned a later dinner at another restaurant. Drinks/Food: Had one of their speciality cocktails and a mojito and both were very good. Husband had a coke. Also good! Food: Had the fries as a snack and they were very good. Waitress: Very nice

Charles A.

Yelp
This is a nice restaurant with good views of downtown and the mountains. It is located in a hotel and parking is in nearby parking garages. There is a substantial bar with ample seating. The waitstaff members are most attentive and pleasant.

Josh B.

Yelp
Brilliant view. cool ambience. Tried to eat dinner as a family but this is NOT a dinner spot. They serve over sauced Gastro style bar food. Service seemed disinterested in us, but we were able to eat downstairs in the lobby. Basically great for drinks and view. Ice cream sandwiches were good.

Brooke G.

Yelp
Rooftop view was beautiful and there was a fantastic lighting show in the distance. The host Halton was amazing!

Stacey P.

Yelp
A small rooftop bar with stellar views and fabulous drinks Montford is a fantastic location for a small group of friends or a couple. This isn't where you bring a party. Located up an elevator which is managed by a host at the entrance Montford is not a large rooftop bar. This is a location that easily fills and there's no standing around here - they manage the numbers fairly by the book. The first time I went was soon after they opened and found the outside area was already taken. The second time we went we were with a group of seven and took the last seven seats. We didn't stay long the second time to give others the opportunity. The bar is split with a little under half of it being outside and a little over half under the roof. The part under the roof is enclosed on three sides with a nice breeze able to waft through. The service is solid. They do their very best. They seemed a bit stressed the two times we visited but otherwise charming. The drinks also were quite good. Not pictured was my favorite drink - the Pink Matter - which I thought was a bit sweet, a bit tart, and nicely balanced. The cherry cordial is a shot - but it is so sweet one should sip it. The mule was nice though the mug threw me a bit. I don't need a copper cup all the time but I'd prefer a rocks glass over a mug due to the thicker lip. It is a place to go to check out the view because it does have the best view of all the rooftop bars I checked out - which was about five this trip. It was marvelous, but come early with not too many people!

Connie E.

Yelp
I'll start by saying please make a reservation. I tried stopping by on a Friday night and a Saturday early afternoon and both required wait times. Although when we got up there, it was kind of empty. I was seated outside and the space up there is not that big but we did get views of the mountains. The food and drinks were great! I would recommend the Flatbread. I'll also add, I was underwhelmed by the Sippin' Santa decor as I've been to others outside of Asheville and those were over the top amazing.

Sarena T.

Yelp
We searched online for the best rooftop bar in Asheville, and this one seemed to be the fan favorite! It's much smaller than you might expect, and you enter by going into the DoubleTree hotel and there is someone immediately to the left standing by the elevator. We had to wait about 30min around 6pm on a Saturday. The view of the mountains (and the sunset) is really nice, although it was super windy outside so everyone was being served inside. Drinks are reasonablely priced and we enjoyed the ones we got, including a non-alcoholic drink. The truffle fries were to die for and it also came with garlicy sauce.

Danny G.

Yelp
Ambrose was amazing! The cocktails were top notch and he gave excellent service! Who doesn't love a rooftop?

Lisa P.

Yelp
Mark was an incredible first impression. I forgot my sunglasses but he hooked me up with a pair so I could appreciate sunset on the deck. Food was good, drinks were great, view lovely and the music playlist was phenomenal. Great date night!

Sarah N.

Yelp
Absolutely a hidden gem on the rooftop of the doubletree by Hilton in Asheville. The food abd drinks were abasing and the staff was wonderful. Now, let's talk about the view absolutely stunning

Greg m.

Yelp
Great little bar on top of the Doubletree Hotel Downtown Asheville. The view is fabulous, the staff helpful, friendly and attentive. Drinks were made well, and they have small plates and larger plates, we had a mixture of both and they were delicious. Not only do you get a great view here but you get a great meal here as well. Can't wait to go back.

Mary L.

Yelp
The view is beautiful and overall the atmosphere is nice. We made a reservation after reading other reviews. I was disappointed in the charcuterie we selected due to its small size and odd choices for ingredients. The menu doesn't say specifically what's on it and it was my rookie mistake not to ask before ordering a $32.00 board. I rarely encounter a cheese I don't like but, as luck would have it, one of the two small cheese offerings was a cow/goat/sheep milk cheese which I simply could not eat. (I just picture dirty goat feet when I eat goat cheese) Traditionally , the person bringing the dish to the table walks you through what is included but this wasn't done. We asked our individual server and she apologized and did so.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Manager was awful! So disrespectful to our party. Very awkward situation for our server who was kind and tried to make the best of the situation and informed us that this is typical manager personality. Also was informed by front desk staff that he's a jerk. Unfortunate because it's a beautiful location. Will never go back.

Grace B.

Yelp
This place is amazing! You need to make a reservation with a $40 deposit but you won't be charged that money if you make your reservation. (they will charge you for a no show). I recommend coming about an hour before sunset so you can order your food and enjoy the amazing view as you eat. The food is yummy and not extremely expensive. They also have a small corner where you can take pictures of the mountains while not disturbing anyone else.

Wendy D.

Yelp
Nice rooftop bar with views! You can just walk in any time and there's free valet parking if you're just going to the rooftop bar. Only problem is this place is so popular so people might have reserved spots ahead of time. The desserts were delicious here. The vibes are great, the sunset was okay on the day we went. Probably better if there's a few clouds in the sky.

Melissa Z.

Yelp
A rooftop bar with mountain views. Asheville needs more of these. We always seek out rooftop bars when we travel and the drinks and views here did not disappoint but the food menu kinda did. We ordered a cocktail and a glass of wine. The cocktail & wine list are short but it's all excellent quality. We would have ordered appetizers but the only the mushroom Flatbread looked interesting. Would have liked to see more plant based options like Buffalo Cauliflower, maybe a plant based chili for those cooler evenings, or something more elevated than tator tots. I know, I know - people love the tots but aren't we over that frozen food fad yet? If youre visiting Asheville, this is a must stop to enjoy the gorgeous mountains and a drink. And make a reservation so you can request a table near the glass. The parking lot is small. We came on a Wednesday night and we got one of the last spots. There is valet but you can do self park and as long as you don't stay overnight you don't have to pay to park.

Christina M.

Yelp
The view is incredible. This is a place for drinks and appetizers. But, unfortunately yet again my experience of the waitstaff in Asheville was luck-warm. The dude at the bar was rushing me to order and was eager for me to get my check.

Lauren M.

Yelp
This review is for drinks only as we did not have the time to dine in for dinner or apps. We didn't have a reservation but wanted to grab a rooftop cocktail before our dinner reservation elsewhere. We called and while they couldn't put our name down as they were full, the host was kind enough to give us a heads up that a few first come first serve seats were still available if we arrived shortly. They have valet parking which was convenient and the host met us on the ground level before helping us to the elevator to the rooftop. The views are good and the drinks are great! We both opted for two of their specialty cocktails which did not disappoint. We also asked for espresso which came in the cutest handmade pottery. Our waitress was so kind and helpful during our visit. It's a great spot for the sunset. Very romantic or good for a group celebration.

Miriam C.

Yelp
Scored reservations at 4 on Wednesday night! We got the best seats in the house on the rooftop bar outside overlooking the mountains! The menu was small, but we tried some lamb empanadas that were crazy good! Drinks were good as well as the service! Amazing experience!!

Jennifer T.

Yelp
This was a disappointment, we were hoping for much better. The wine was very nice, but the noise that the bartenders make slamming things around was so annoying that we didn't stay. If you sit outside maybe its not bothersome but its like the sound of smashing bottles the entire time we were there. And why is the floor so sticky, my shoes practically came off my feet as I walked across the floor.

Dana R.

Yelp
What a beautiful location. Drinks were great, service was amazing. Norbert and Alex took such good care of us. So friendly. Truly made our night! Thank you Norbert

Deborah D.

Yelp
Very nice eatery to hang out in Waynesville, NC. Food at table in FIVE MINUTES! Food was also excellent.

Steve H.

Yelp
Came here on a recommendation and as soon as I sat down at the bar I was overwhelmed with the smell of cooked meat coming from the kitchen, like burgers being cooked. I opted to sit outside even though it was crazy windy. The hostess seats me outside and as I sit down she says to me I'll have to move you if a bigger party comes. Lol the patio was the tiny! There's nowhere else I could've sat. Had one drink that happened to have a bug on my cup and decided to leave after just the one drink. Bartender was nice but the hostess was not friendly at all. The roof top at Capella on 9 is leaps and bounds above this place.

David A.

Yelp
awesome drinks, food and even better bartenders! our groups had a wonderful time at this bar. they are some of the nicest people!! bravo!!

Teva V.

Yelp
This rooftop is located on top of the double tree hotel. Drinks were ok, the flatbreads were delicious. I especially loved the mushroom one. It's has a pretty view. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Eli S.

Yelp
Nice bar on the rooftop of our hotel, was told by our Asheville friends this one was the best one in town for the views. We ordered the homemade tater tots and the mushroom flatbread and the chicken one, very good for small plates. Our drinks were good too BE CAREFUL when ordering your scotch it. An get very expensive. Our waitress was very attentive. Overall we recommend

Shane E.

Yelp
Service. A+++ clean fun an amazing place for brunch and love their food!!!! Great for first dates and seeing the city

Larry W.

Yelp
A truly impressive rooftop bar and restaurant in downtown Asheville...amazing views with great food and drinks. It's particularly impressive in the Fall months, with colorful foliage on the surrounding mountains.

Tulsi P.

Yelp
We came here on a sunday afternoon and there was still a long wait, but it was worth it! The view was nice and the drinks were great too. The bar is very small and they do a nice job of making sure the tables are set up so parties can social distance, which explains the long wait! The weather was great and the service was also wonderful. We ordered some of the crab appetizer, which was small but delicious! I got a Moscow mule and some other mixed drinks and they were all wonderful. We enjoyed our visit!

Tori L.

Yelp
Amazing views and good food! Great place for drinks before headed out. The build your own charcuterie was really good.

Matt O.

Yelp
Let's be honest... you're coming here for the view. Absolutely beautiful. But MAKE SURE you make a reservation. For the food: the shareable fries were somehow charred and somewhat cold, the Cuban sandwich was decent but nothing spectacular, but the brisket... INCREDIBLE. Final thought, and I hope the owner sees this, but there needs to be more waitstaff. Waiting for 10 mins on a beer refill and another 10 just to tell our server we were ready for our check after our plates were cleared from the table could definitely be better. Would likely come back just for drinks and the view.

Ashley K.

Yelp
When you get there you have to park at the hotel and go up the elevator. It is decorated very nice it's amazing! The staff was so nice and the drinks were great! Heath was our server he made good suggestions and was attentive

Sam And Andrea F.

Yelp
Drinks were great, the food was not. The view is spectacular! The staff was very friendly ,except the night manager, she was not.

Michael E.

Yelp
This bar is excellent for more reasons than I can shake a stick at, but the view is million dollar. if you can snag a seat outside at sunset you will not be disappointed. Staff is attentive and drinks pricing is good. Haven't eaten there yet as the view keeps distracting me *grin*

Danielle J.

Yelp
Came here with some girlfriends and had a blast at the bar. Thank you Norbert for the delicious cocktail! The managers Alex and Sean made a point to come say hello and give us recommendations on where to go out after. If you're in Asheville, you have to go to catch the sunset!

Susanna H.

Yelp
What a gorgeous setting. it was my first time in Asheville and I celebrated my birthday with family. We could not have chosen a better spot to start the evening. The view of the surrounding mountains is stunning. Great drinks - alcoholic and nonalcoholic. The food list of shared dishes can definitely be sufficient dinner - flatbreads, sliders, salads. Delicious!!

Debbie T.

Yelp
They were out of practically everything we tried to order and it was only 6:30 PM. Service was very slow. The food we ordered was delicious, (brisket macaroni and cheese). Drink menu was limited. The ambience was very nice. Great views.

De H.

Yelp
I wanted a nice trendy dinner spot for my daughter and I and came across this rooftop bar. In pictures it looked great. It was actually much smaller and the view actually has a lot of buildings and construction. When you don't focus on what's closest but look out, the mountains are there. For the area, I think it's a great place. While they don't have a lot of menu choices, the food we had was great. When you go to the restaurant they have complementary valet parking. That was quite nice compared to going to a place more downtown in Asheville where you have to find parking on the street or in a parking garage.

Alex H.

Yelp
I didn't realize how hard it would be to get a reservation at the last minute but finally got one and it's worth it. The food is great and nice selection of wines and craft beers. Plan ahead! There's seating for about 9 groups so they will sell out

Steve B.

Yelp
The food was incredible and the service was even better. We sat at the bar with Joel and he made sure we had a great time. Great cocktails and great food. I highly recommend!!

Joe M.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance and the view. Sat at the bar and let our creative mixologist Kendra do her thing. Our drinks were wonderful but very expensive. Be sure to ask how much the upcharge is for certain spirits. As an example, my old fashion made with Pikesville Rye was $19. All of the apps that we tried were terrific. Fresh tomato and mozzarella flatbread, tator tots and meatballs. Would definitely return but will be more cautious when ordering drinks. Almost $100 for 4 drinks and 3 apps before adding a tip.
