The Montpelier

I popped in here during lunchtime. Because I heard it was the best burger in the UK while I disagree about it being the best burger in UK it is a very very good burger. The fries are also good and the service was fantastic. I guess there was no one here so that made it a bit easier but I do recommend the burger it’s tasty it’s succulent And it really drives the flavours home. As you can see, I ate at all and all the fries.

5* staff, lots of tables, a good menu for lunch meals too (including Basque cheesecake). Best burger? Yes and no, it's definitely a tasty one with spot-on spicy notes, good soft bun although mustard covers meat flavours. Bite-size vegan taco also recommended.

Here for Sunday lunch. Sadly, the food was not up to our expectations, having read reviews and general word of mouth. Beef was tough and chicken portion was small. Gravy was very thin. Veg cooked very well and potatoes very good. We will return and try the main menu, but there are better (and cheaper) Sunday lunch options in the area.

Lovely atmosphere and service, but my god the food was a bit of a joke. There’s no exaggeration when I say £16 for quarter of a butternut squash, some oil, and NOTHING else - no salad, chips, nothing. I had to go and complain, to which the staff were lovely and gave me some chips. The £28 fish dish was exactly the same - fish with absolutely nothing else on the plate. Just felt really bare.

Came to watch the France vs Belgium football game last week. Lovely layout of the pub with plenty of plants. Game was playing but no sound only music playing. Not sure it's a place to watch the football but a nice place to catch relax and catch up with people. Has outside table out the front and down the side of the building along a quiet Rd.

Rocco food outstanding, in every way. Bar staff good or terrible. Some are clueless when it comes to hospitality, others get it and are a pleasure. Will return for food, but definitely would not just for the drinks or pub experience.

I had such a lovely evening, formy first visit. Unfortunately, no photos. I loved the ambience, light jazz in the background. I had rum punch, very strong and paid for it the next morning. We also shared the Caribbean chicken and some chips. My guest had Guinness. Staff relaxed and friendly. I would definitely recommend and go again.

Came here for their cheeze burg! Super greasy (juicy) in a greasyspoon kinda way with good quality meat, luv it. 🥰 Buns are soft and melty Smashing 🫶🥲

Very good pub a stones throw from Peckham high street. Popped in here after the fireworks last night for a few pints. We had to stand at the bar for a bit until we could get a table but not for long. Was happy to see that they sell meantime wheat beer as I'm a big fan. Have to agree with James D on the scampi fries, £1.20 is a piss take. The inside is nice and cosy, staff were all v friendly, all in all a top place. Will definitely be back.

Nice enough pub, frequented by the sort of hipsters you might expect in this sort of the world. Good looking food, good beers ( tending to the -cough cough- craft beer -grinds teeth- end of things), and Sunday afternoons here are enlivened or marred ( depending on your point of view on jazz) by live music. Wine list is unambiguous.

I'm just reviewing the pub cinema at the moment as I was keen to make sure other people knew what they were in for. It was an all round pretty bad experience - the website didn't work so I emailed to ask whether I had to buy tickets online, they replied saying it was working again (but didn't tell me it was mandatory) , so since I was busy at that point I didn't buy them. We arrived, they told us you had to buy tickets online (WHY?!), then made me fumble around with my phone for about ten minutes trying to get it to work (it didn't) before saying it was fine to just pay for them in cash. The staff were quite rude, distant and difficult the whole time through. When we actually got into the cinema, the pub was so loud we could barely hear the film (luckily it had subtitles), and the picture quality was pretty bad. It's only a few pounds but I definitely wouldn't come back. It's a shame, because it's a great idea. I was also thinking sofas would have been better than the antique cinema seats, which creak and aren't very comfortable, but that's an aside. I never write reviews on Yelp (since they stopped paying me to do so), but my experience was so negative I felt motivated to log in for the first time in about four years...

Haven't done much pub crawling in Peckham but the little bit that I have has found me making my way to the Monty on a semi-regular basis. Cool vibe, good music, menu looks solid (not that I've tried much off it, but what I have was tasty) and the staff has always been friendly. As a student who sometimes goes a bit nuts sitting in my library or Peckham Library for hours on end, the Monty is a good switch-up to have a pint and pound out an essay mid-week. Haven't spent more than just a few minutes here during the weekends. Tends to be rammed with families / friends doing the food thing during the day (the wait staff are uncannily good at dodging toddlers), then people getting after it at night. From what I've heard some pretty solid and high-profile music acts come through the pub semi-regularly, which is a bit unexpected from such a small place. Also do a backroom cinema screening which I've never attended but seems like a good way to waste a few enjoyable hours. All said and done one of the better pubs I've spent time in in London, definitely worth a visit if you find yourself down Peckham way. Update: Yep, as mentioned in my original review, every now and again some entirely unexpected guests opt for a pint or two at the Monty. Went in a few weeks back and found myself sat next to Simon Green (aka Bonobo) at the bar, which was pretty perfect seeing as I'd briefly met him the night before at his show at the Roundhouse. Really down to earth guy who was probably rather entertained (or is that annoyed?) by a tall talkative American that is usually entirely comfortable around just about anyone, but definitely had something of a "cat got your tongue moment" when finding himself face to face with one of his absolute favorite musicians. Bartender, another round please!

Large, quietish, and with lots of seating. All positive points for a pub. It was very cold when we visited and although we were seated next to a fireplace, said fireplace was full of fairy lights. So that was less than ideal. Basically a nice spot, though!

Good pub ruined by wanky menu. I don't mind expensive food but when it's a choice of 4 hipster options I'm out.

always busy, sometimes a bit too busy as there aren't as many tables inside as there should be! during the summer the outside area is perfect. so its a quality boozer, with good beers, decent food and cool crowd. it's a bit expensive...since when did scampi fries cost £1.20?!? but the atmosphere is excellent and the staff generally pleasant. all part of the peckham resurgence. they do a good coffee it seems, also close to the station. best pub in that part of SE15.

While not the traditional pub that I generally hold so dear, I really enjoyed my visit here. The Cotswold Lager was delicious, the best lager I have had in years. Was glad that I decided to choose it, despite the presence of some real ales too I like the way they mark the toilets at the back of the pub. Has some potential for graffiti.

Some of the best hand cut chips you'll ever have, crispy on the outside yet fluffy on the inside, with the portion being massive, you really get to indulge in the amount of chips. : )

I called into have a quite drink I asked for a bottle of Carling but they did not have this so was told to try a bottle of Peroni just a normal size 330 ml when the bottle was opened I was then told the price £3.90 I said are you sure which she replied yes! So I you go make sure you have some Dough

The pub is very nice and you can have a hard time choosing what to drink due to the extensive menu. The ales are good and strong, just as I like my beer.

Such a charming pub. Great atmosphere, good beers and extremely friendly staff. I think it's the best pub in the area. I wouldn't eat here - food is very average but it's not renowned as an eatery so still 5 stars from me!

Recently went here on a Friday night and was great! Really busy and fantastic atmosphere.

Such a shame...... Great food, good drinks selection, terrible duty/assistant manager/security! I phoned ahead in June to arrange us booking the back/cinema room for myself and two friends birthday celebrations on July 9th. Spoke to a very friendly man named Dave/Daniel (I forget as he was engaging and polite yet casual and all went well over the phone) I asked if there was a system to play our own music in this separate room and he assured me there was a 'stereo system' we could plug into and even a DVD player we could use if we liked! Great so all done booked from 7pm on the 9th. Upon arrival we ordered our drinks acknowledged that we had arrived and duly headed to the back room to have a look. We were not accompanied and there was a bit of confusion as to how we would connect to the stereo to listen to our music (we're talking indie classics not Slayer) but we figured it out put the stereo to. Low volume while we sat down to look at the menu for our dinner options before our friends arrived. 2 minutes later the bar manager/duty manager came into the room without a welcome or introduction and demanded to know who had set up their iPod to the stereo and why?! I said hello, yes that's my player, I was told when I made the booking that this was fine, she then demanded to know the name of the manager I had booked with, again, unsure I mentioned David or Daniel, at which point she said no it's not allowed and disconnected my player and shut the cupboard and then stormed out - pretty embarrassing really! I went to the bar and apologised as I would never have tampered with the stereo had I been told otherwise, the lady managing said it's important that the theme of music be the same throughout the bar, I said no problem but once again was confused by their mixed messages! Anyway, we then ordered more drinks and food (remarkably good food by the way) and sat down to enjoy ourselves as more friends arrived, at times through the evening some of our party closed the door to the back room which said bar manager seemed very annoyed by and had to open fully each time, (this I can understand, and if it had been explained earlier wouldn't of happened) Anyway this is becoming an essay but generally, we were treated badly from the start here we generally had a lovely time, it's a busy bar so top marks to the bar staff for their skills! But it was soured by one very uncommunicative and unhappy member of staff/management, topped off by being screamed at by said lady to leave come 1pm, followed by the security (without announcement) wrenching a drink from a young female member of our party's hand before explaining that drinks weren't allowed outside, very aggressive behaviour! In summation it's just a real shame that the management and security are letting down an otherwise fine establishment! (By the way I never do this review thing but am so saddened by our mistreatment, all I can say is there goes 20 plus local customers who vow never to return!) Yours - Ian Wilson
