The 16 Best Restaurants In Newport, Rhode Island - Newport - The Infatuation

"Sure, you might find sweaty tourists on Thames Street, but The Mooring’s cool, open-air patio is the place to escape all that. There are fans humming quietly above you, the energy is lively and upbeat but not rowdy, and all you can see is water and the boats in the harbor with Conanicut Island in the distance. Order the local classic Bag of Donuts lobster-shrimp fritters to start. The scallops, fish and chips, and statler chicken with chimichurri are excellent, and they also do a very well-executed, warm-buttered lobster roll. Plus, your smoky mezcal cocktail will seem as though it was specifically crafted to balance the briny sweetness of local oysters." - danielle rose, carlo mantuano

"Head to this big, bustling Newport Wharf restaurant for lunch before visiting the museum and library just a few blocks away. It’s a no-frills and family-friendly affair during the day (lots of kids coloring on placemats), but the casual food is super tasty. In fact, it’s perfect waterside lunch fare, from the fresh and meaty Mexican white shrimp to the delicious Cajun Redfish Wrap. The real standout, though, is their Native Scallop Chowder, brightened up with bits of dill. Be sure to snag a table out on the patio overlooking Narragansett Bay."

We had a great dinner at The Mooring! The food was excellent all around. The shrimp ceviche was fresh and flavorful with just the right amount of heat, and the fish & chips were perfectly crispy with great fries. The chicken was juicy, with a bright chimichurri and creamy garlic mashed potatoes that really stood out. Our server Sharon was friendly and professional, though she tended to linger a bit long at the table. Overall, a really good experience and we’d definitely go back.

Google
We had a Great Brunch Experience Today at the Mooring! Started with a Platter of Little Necks... Cherrystones and Oysters... For Entrées we had Steamed Lobster.. Bouillabase.. Rare Tuna... Cod and Salmon.. Everything was Delicious.. We sat at a Table by the Water with Great Views.. Missy was our Server and She was Excellent... Took Great care of Us and we didn't want for anything all meal long.... My Brother in Law and his Girlfriend were visiting from Zambia and absolutely Loved It! Highly Recommended!

Google
Delicious food, excellent service, beautiful view. My only issue was the afternoon sun directly in my face and no shades on the windows or light diffuser. Felt like I needed sunglasses until the sun went down. Other than that the crab toast is something to write home about, the drinks were perfect, and every dish was spot on!

Google
The seafood is outstanding—10 out of 10! We've been to this seafood restaurant twice, and each visit has been excellent. The crab cakes were a particular highlight, and the cod was also very good. We ordered a whole lobster, and the server kindly helped us clean it, which made the experience much easier and enjoyable. The restaurant’s design is simple yet elegant. Despite being very busy during both of our visits, the service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. A practical note: Parking in front of the restaurant is limited and paid, so we were lucky to find a spot. Overall, highly recommended for seafood lovers looking for a top-notch dining experience. We'll definitely be back when we're in Newport, RI again!

Google
Great food in an open and comfortable location by the water. The meal was excellent and service was friendly and helpful. Quality ingredients and great flavors with ample portions for the price. They also have an extensive and creative cocktail menu. A great place for a nice dinner out.

Google
Had a great lunch here while in Newport for the day. Warm Lobster Roll was fantastic. Not that i am an expert in Lobster Rolls, but can not imagine having it any other way. Although I know some of you do. Scallop chowder was good, but to me the base made it something i could not take a lot of. My wife like it over the clam chowder, and i preferred the clam. Worked out perfectly. Madisyn was great and attentive and our seats inside over looking the water provided a wonderful atmosphere.

Google
Absolutely incredible experience! We arrived on our first night here to Newport, and everyone recommended dinner at The Mooring. We had reservations for a table, but we ended up having so much fun at the bar with bartenders Nick and Matt (and patron Jim) that we decided to hang with them for the evening. From Nick’s perfect cocktails (salted caramel espresso martini and of course a classic dirty) to Matt recommending local stops to see in town on our stay, we had a great experience - not like some highfalutin place that misses out on an authentic experience. And the food recommendations were fantastic! 10/10 for us, and so much so we may go by again before our stay is over. From Nashville with love - Amanda & Jason.

Google
Stopped in for dinner, this is a very busy place so I recommend a reservation unless you don’t mind sitting at the bar which I don’t mind at all. The food is delicious and all of the seafood is fresh. I will be back again someday.

Yelp
I was really excited to have lunch here on Saturday. The food looked fantastic on social media, and my experience was just as wonderful in person. The seafood was fresh and delicious. I loved the seating--so peaceful and comfortable. When I made the reservation, I mentioned in the comments that I'd love a window seat, and I really appreciated that they honored that request. Our waitress was wonderful--such a genuine and attentive presence. Everything truly exceeded my expectations! Thanks a lot! Srdan Dokovic

Yelp
My sister dined here before and wanted to revisit with me. I ordered the seafood pasta $38 without lobster tail based on Yelp photos and she ordered a "cup" of clam chowder $9 and lobster roll $36. The menu definitely has changed from what currently comes with the meal. Past patrons had options of either red marinara and butter lime sauce along with garlic bread and even type of noodle (spaghetti, linguine/ fettuccine). My meal only came with spaghetti, shrimp, and scallops. The waitress was kind and offered choice of sauce, grated Parmesan cheese, and fresh bread with butter. Soon after our orders were placed, business picked up and waiters were in and out of kitchen swiftly. They were already pretty full. The salt level was a little underwhelming for both dishes. I assume it was the same for my sisters clam chowder because she had no words for it. They need to re-evaluate the cost of the seafood pasta since they took away the garlic bread. The restaurant was nice inside and we were there when the sunset. It gave a nice amber lighting to the restaurant and view of the marina. It would be a nice place for a 3rd date but you may not hear them as others can be so loud with groups near 2-seater tables. Around the corner for shopping, coffee, and desserts as well as more views of the marina.

Yelp
Highly recommend a reservation during peak season. Whenever I'm back in RI, I try to make my way over to The Mooring. I always get the fritters - so good! My friend loves their chips and dip. Their seafood towers have been great, especially in a bigger group. I tend to get a lobster dish - I love their stuffed lobster (although needs more lobster for the price) and lobster rolls (I switch it up between chilled and warm buttered depending on my mood). Service varies but never had horrendous service. Can't wait for my next trip!

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Monday. No reservation, so there was a wait. We ended up sitting at the bar. BF had a lobster roll, which she thought was pretty good. I had the fish and chips which again was pretty good. I would rate this place as solid, but not outstanding.

Yelp
Waterfront dining and lots of fresh seafood options. Loved all our food... oysters, clam chowder, and pan roasted cod. Seriously so delicious. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Would recommend and great for large groups.

Yelp
A very nice, waterfront restaurant with a view of the marina. The seafood was fresh with the seafood appetizer platter (shrimp, clams, oysters, lobster served with mulled vinegar, cocktail sauce and horseradish). They have a biscuit with honey which was the highlight of the meal. The steak and lobster was alright- not enough lobster meat and the steak was a bit dry. I'd stick to seafood dishes here. The full lobster steamed or broiled was delicious. The risotto is delicious along with the fried calamari. Service is quick and attentive.
google avatar

Christina V.

Yelp
Reviews and locals recommended this place. It was busy with great views. Food was just ok unfortunately. The much raved about buttermilk biscuit tasted like cornbread, quite sweet and very dry. Calamari was chewy. Drinks were good though. Clam chowder was good. Reservations are highly recommended, we saw a lot of people turned away. With so many choices around, this isn't a must try.

Yelp
Service: We waited ~40 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Despite being seated right by the door to the outdoor patio, we tried multiple times to flag waitstaff who either avoided eye contact or ignored us completely. Other groups that sat after us were already ordering and receiving their food. We were honestly going to leave right when the waitress came to our table. Food: The dishes we ordered were pretty good, but it's hard to say if that was partly due to how hungry we were after such a long wait. That said, the food was also on the pricey side. It's unfortunate that the overall experience was overshadowed by the poor service.

Yelp
Great local restaurant that is employee owned. We came here for dinner and have a great time. Sharon, our waitress, was amazing!!!! There is indoor/outdoor seating and an extensive menu. The honey soaked biscuit was amazing!!!!!! And my favorite thing to eat. Ambiance was great. Everyone was super friendly

Yelp
An excellent choice for our last evening in Newport. A beautiful harborfront view, great ambiance, great service. So first, a shout out to our excellent server Mike - For the great service, great suggestions, and friendly, professional demeanor. Now to the food. The bouillabaisse entree was simply a Best Ever choice. Super fresh ingredients, shrimp, haddock, mussels, and lobster in a super testy tomatoey broth, with slices of toasted sourdough bread on the side. A phenomenal entree. Our salad to split was delicious, and my other half enjoyed a chicken entree. A perfect choice for an evening of fine dining, great Atmosphere, great service and of course great food!!

Yelp
If you are looking for the best New England Clam Chowder in all of Rhode Island, look no further than the Mooring! It's award winning perfection! Just the right amount of clams, potatoes and creamy broth. I am not much of a soup person, but this is my go to appetizer every time I visit. Everything on the menu is excellent, the servers are fabulous and the ocean views are stunning! Parking is free for patrons too!

Yelp
A must when in Newport! Beautiful, seafood restaurant by the water. If you plan on coming here make a reservation ahead of time because it can get busy! Plenty of parking located at and around the restaurant. Some of the areas outside the restaurant do come with a fee. So many delicious options on the menu- the FRESHEST seafood. 10/10 recommend the oysters. The shrimp and lobster - all so so good. They have a large drink menu with non alcoholic options available if that's more your style! Service was prompt, Professional and courteous. And everything was priced reasonably!! Come enjoy the seafood and views!

Yelp
I had an exceptional dining experience at The Mooring in Newport, RI. We started with the shrimp ceviche, which was fresh, well-balanced, and a perfect way to begin the meal. I ordered the cod entrée, and it was delicious. Cod can sometimes be prepared blandly, but this version was flavorful and thoughtfully done. My companion had the salmon and was very satisfied with the choice. The wine list offered a wide range of well-selected options, and we enjoyed a couple of great pours. The only part of the meal that fell short was the crème brûlée. That said, everything else was truly excellent. The location adds to the experience with beautiful views of the marina right outside. It is a relaxing setting that enhances the entire evening. The service was attentive, professional, and added to the overall quality of the meal. The Mooring is part of the Newport Restaurant Group. I also visited The Boathouse in Tiverton and had a similarly great experience. This team clearly knows how to run a top notch restaurant. I would absolutely return and recommend it without hesitation.

Yelp
Super cute restaurant. We sat up at the bar and had a really nice meal. Staff was super accommodating of my food allergies and even put an allergy tag. My fiancé's lobster roll was very good and so far it's the best one he's had in New England! Place gets very busy very fast so a reservation is recommended. The parking lot that they're located in is $12 an hour and if you go over by just one minute it will charge you a second hour so be careful.

Yelp
Was so lucky to have this be my first meal in Newport. We sat on the bottom deck and had amazing views. The server was so lovely and friendly and the food and drinks were all around solid. The two of us split the crudo, oysters rockefeller, fried calamari, kale salad and the seafood pasta. The food was so good. My bf was hesitant about the crudo and oyster rockefeller but he loved them both. We had the creme brulee for dessert and that was ok, could have probably skipped. The drinks were delicious and we were debating if we should stay for another round or swing over to a bar (we stayed).

Yelp
We ordered Bowl of clam chowder. This is good. 8 piece of oyster, for $3.50 each. There are 4 types of oysters. I just order 2 each. Oysters are really small. It is not worth it. Bouillabasse for 2. The portion is huge. I didnt really like the sauce. Fish is a bit dry, We ordered 2 kids menu. My daughter barely touch the smash potato. The host is friendly, but the waitress isn't too friendly. She seems a bit unfriendly. Since we sit inside, dont really see a big deal about the atmosphere. It is in downtown Newport, so it is quite busy. But I think there are bigger crowd in Black Pearl or the Clark Cook house.

Yelp
This restaurant has the best fresh raw bar! Their shrimp is my favorite, and I can't say enough about their clam chowder. These two items are a must-order if you take my advice! We came here for the second time, and I hope we'll be back again in the future. This restaurant has my heart, the people who work here are professional, and the service is always above and beyond. We came to celebrate my dad's and husband's birthdays, and I have to say, they did an amazing job surprising them. If you have a birthday coming up and you're in Newport Beach, Rhode Island, keep this place in mind. This is where quality speaks for itself, and you'll experience great customer service and an amazing atmosphere. No matter what you choose from the menu, you won't regret it. Best fish restaurant forever.I just wish they were closer to my house!

Yelp
The Mooring is always a great stop in Newport! It's perfect that it's on the water and has delicious food. I will say it's a little pricey, but that's to be expected based on its location. The drinks were absolutely delicious, and our favorite go-to is the scallop chowder! We've always had great service when we eat here too! Only issue I've had in the past is finding shell in my lobster roll once, but that comes with the territory sometimes.

Yelp
We had dinner here the other night for the first time, and it was wonderful. We had a reservation, which the restaurant kindly pushed out an hour, since we were running late from the airport. We were seated shortly after arriving, and our server was wonderful, and greeted us right away. There is a plentiful amount of seating within the restaurant and at the bars. I ordered an extra dirty martini, and blue cheese olives, which was perfectly crafted. We started with the tuna poke - fresh tuna, sushi rice, ponzu, cucumber, miso, and pickled fresno - it was a generously portioned appetizer and absolutely delicious. We also split the spinach and bacon salad, which was also very largely portioned with spinach bacon, hard cooked egg, and a sherry vinaigrette dressing that was very tasty. For my main course, I have the sole milanese, it's pan fried with a tomato confit, German style potato, watercress, and a generous lemon butter sauce. This dish was fabulous, well balanced, great flavors, and very generously portioned. My husband had the seafood pasta, which came with a heaping portion of spaghetti, and a plentiful amount of scallops and shrimp, with a chile lime butter/sauce that was very good. We will absolutely be back to try out more of the menu!

Yelp
The bouillabaisse for two for lunch. Yes, there were sooo many fishy choices, but our excellent server just gave us the unconscious nod when we mentioned it...and we were sold. Boy was she right It's a splurge, but equally a surge- of lobster, clams, shrimp, haddock(?cod?), potatoes, and other creatures, in a savory brown fish stock, with large toasted crusty bread for soaking, and an aioli sauce dripped over various aspects. Hardly hungry, we nevertheless decimated it.... Nothing but taters left.
google avatar

Chelle L.

Yelp
Got a dozen oysters (of different varieties) and they were fresh and good. I had no idea which ones were which though. The clam chowder was most excellent! I greatly enjoyed it. The cod was flaky and well cooked. The clams were plump and juicy. I did not care for the sauce. Also got a dish for 2 which consisted of a whole lobster, potatoes, mussels, shrimp, and charred toast. Everything by itself tasted good, again did not care for the sauce .... It did the seafood a disservice Service was okay, a little hard to find our server at times. We were seated next to the waters which was nice and I'm glad that area was heated.

Yelp
Wow. First of all the Newport restaurant group is an outstanding collection of restaurants. We live close by to Celeste (formerly Trio) and often frequent the restaurant and we have become friendly with the staff over the years. When we went to Newport recently we popped in to The Smoke House to say hello to the former manager at Trio, Jordan. We ended up dining at the Mooring where we also saw Mike Accetta who warmly greeted us (also previously met at Trio) and Austin, one of our favorite waiters formerly at Trio. They truly value their regular customers and were so welcoming. Austin sent us over a complimentary dessert. Just the SWEETEST and completely unexpected thing to do! I highly recommend the Mooring. Beautiful atmosphere and ambiance. Outstanding views. Our waiter was fantastic and recommended the seafood special which I loved. My husband ordered the filet and really enjoyed it! We usually hold off until it's a little slower in the fall but I have to admit we had an AMAZING EXPERIENCE last week.
google avatar

Yelp
A great dinner spot for anyone visiting Newport! The ambiance was amazing - being right by the water with all the yachts is a cool vibe. The food is delicious. We had the oysters to start and a lobster roll for my meal. And a dirty martini to wash it all down! Food is 10/10. The service was great and fast as well. One of our favorite dinners of the trip!
google avatar

Yelp
Outstanding service paired with a wonderful atmosphere and décor. The bartenders were very attentive and gave great recommendations. The food was excellent and arrived at just the right time. Not my first visit, and certainly not my last!"

Yelp
Came to Newport for our 10 year dating anniversary and 1 year marriage anniversary. The Mooring had exceptional service from start to finish! We were about 30min early, and they had a table ready for us. Analiese was our server who did an amazing job and was very attentive the entire time. She greeted us with complimentary champagne, and at the end dessert to go too! The food was great, but the service would have us coming back for sure. And the bread LOL!! Thank you for a memorable dinner!

Yelp
Booked a reservation here for a family vacation around 6PM. Reservation is absolutely required here as they're always fully booked and they will turn down walk-ins. You can request to sit in the outdoor patio, but it's not guaranteed, even if you request it on the reservation, they'll just ignore it. We got lucky and got what we wanted, which was to sit on the outside patio on the docks. We started off with a dozen oysters. Oysters are $3.50 a piece, which its obviously very pricy. I would pass on this, unless you really insist on getting them. The variety that they carried at the time were great. For appetizers, we ordered the Lobster-Shrimp Fritters ($18), which we were told by the waitress that these were popular among patrons. Man they were delicious. They're deep fried, but still fluffy and delicious. Getting some of that maple chipotle aioli sauce is a must. We also ordered a plate of Mussells ($19), which turned out was not necessary because it was included in our entree. For our entree, we split the Bouillabaisse for Two ($75). This giant plate came with 1 1/4 pound lobster, local white fish, mussels, potatoes, fennel, white-wine shellfish broth, and grilled baguette on top, all soaked in saffron aioli sauce. This plate was devoured and personally is the way to go to try just about everything while feeding everyone (probably could serve three people). Overall it was a fantastic time and I worth booking that reservation. Parking is a hassle as the parking lot is privately owned by a parking company, not the restaurant itself. So we did street parking that allowed 3 hours somewhere and walked to the restaurant. Service is fantastic and professional. They even gave us a birthday card which every staff member's signature on it to celebrate for the occasion.

Yelp
Our first memorable meal on a girl's weekend in Newport. No reservation but we were able to score a patio seat overlooking the water. Excellent service and solid food. Pity the weekend crowds were such that we didn't dare venture back again. Lovely food, service and space.

Yelp
We had such a nice Christmas Eve dinner ! Sharon was our awesome server and despite the craziness of the busy holiday, she held it together with a smile and grace ! But those shrimp and lobster fritters ... worth the trip itself! YUM! With a nice maple aioli. Great drinks .... yummy lobster rolls, what more could you ask for ? We will be back again!

Yelp
Amazing spot! The food is amazing , great service, and beautiful waterfront views. A must when in Newport!

Yelp
Everything about this dining experience was spectacular! Our waitress was incredibly sweet, checked in on us and gave us great suggestions for meals. We started with the shrimp ceviche and oysters. The oysters were the star of the show - so fresh with the perfect bite of brine. We also had the crab cakes and split the pasta. I'm still thinking about the seafood pasta. The scallops were perfectly seared. We received a surprise creme brûlée at the end of the meal. My husband and I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We came as a party of five plus a toddler. We arrived a little early (around 3:55 for a 4:15 reservation) but weren't seated until our exact reservation time, even though there were several open tables. Not a big deal, but a little odd. Our waitress was okay--friendly but not super attentive. She brought waters right away but forgot a straw cup for my toddler. Before I could ask, I tried sharing my water, which of course ended in a spill all over the table. Thankfully, a very kind gentleman came over right away to help clean it up (he was honestly the most attentive person we interacted with!). Food: Lobster & Shrimp Fritters: Delicious! Highly recommend. Fried Calamari: Standard--nothing special. Classic Mooring Clam Chowder: Good, but nothing that stood out. Entrées: Seared Scallops (my husband): Scallops were cooked perfectly, but the risotto was bland and needed salt. Seafood Pasta (me): Okay, but a little underseasoned. It came with five scallops and only two shrimp--adding a pinch of salt helped. Roasted Salmon (my mom): She gave it a 7/10. Warm Buttered Lobster Roll (my sister): 10/10--she loved it! Drinks: My husband had a rosé wine (can't remember the name) and really enjoyed it. My sister's Sea Salt Caramel Espresso Martini was a huge hit--10/10. My mom's Pear Blossom Mocktail stole the show--she said 15/10! Other notes: The restrooms could use a little improvement. The changing station would really benefit from having a trash can nearby for diapers and paper covers for the table. The hostesses could also be a bit warmer and more welcoming. When it was time for the check, we had to wait a bit since our waitress was hard to find. Overall: Drinks were great, food was hit or miss, and service was just okay. Big shoutout to the gentleman who helped with the water spill--he truly saved the moment.

Yelp
Went here for a birthday dinner. When we told them we were celebrating a birthday they gave a double order of the s'mores dessert and a double order of cappuccino gelato. The extra dessert was free.

Yelp
The service was great and the food was good. I would not recommend the warm lobster roll but the cold one was outstanding. The location is beautiful on the water with boats.

Yelp
We went to the Mooring and had a fantastic meal! The restaurant was situated on the water and had spectacular view. We managed to go just when the sun set and it was a gorgeous view! The service was incredible and our waiter was extremely kind and attentive. We ordered the calamari, warm buttered lobster roll, and Boillabaisse. All were delicious and one of the best lobster rolls I've had! The boillabaisse was a lot larger than we had thought and could definitely feed more than 2 people!
google avatar

Velina M.

Yelp
Lots of food!! Make sure you go to the Mooring hungry. The place was popping and it seemed like the place to go on Sunday night. We started with the lobster shrimp fritters and they were so so good!! For main we shared the BOUILLABAISSE and it didn't disappoint. It was so much food!! I would actually suggest that this meal is for 3 hungry people. My only comment on the lobster was that it was a little chewy otherwise the rest of the seafood was done beautifully. The service was quick and thoughtful and the ambiance was cozy but fancy.

Yelp
Food is wonderful: civiche, tuna pake, lobster, sole and seafood pasta all very good. Drinks selection good and our rose was excellent. Service was initially accommodating but as we progressed wasn't quite what we expected here: no specials and plates not cleared between courses. Still recommend.

Yelp
If I had to sum up my experience at The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar in one word, I would use stupendous. I highly recommend making a reservation through OpenTable. One time last month, my family and I came to try to get a table or even to sit at the bar, but there were no seats at all. I learnt my lesson and made a OpenTable reservation for a table for 2 on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at 12:45pm. We showed up around 12:00pm and were seated right away though we were early for our reservation. The restaurant was packed! I started with a seasonal cocktail called the Whatthemelon, which has raspberry vodka, watermelon, citrus. This was wonderful and I really enjoyed the vodka and watermelon. My husband got another seasonal cocktail called The Mooring Painkiller, which has Pusser's Rum, tropical juices, coconut, and nutmeg. He enjoyed it. We started with a cup of the classic Mooring clam chowder and lobster-shrimp fritters with a maple chipotle aioli sauce. This was probably the best clam chowder I've had. It was so creamy. The lobster-shrimp fritters were also very good. You can actually see lobster and shrimp pieces and it wasn't overly fried. Dipping these into the sauce was delicious. For entree, I had the Seafood Pasta, which had scallop and shrimp, calabrian chile-lime butter, spaghetti, scallions, and topped with crumbs. The first bite I had of the spaghetti and scallop was mouthwatering. This was so succulent and luscious. I couldn't finish it all and packed it for later. My husband had the grilled salmon with creamed corn, chia seeds, lardons, overnight tomato, smoked onion jam, and tobiko. He also liked his entree. By the end of the meal, we were stuffed and couldn't fit in dessert. Truly an A+ meal and dining experience. Christine was our server and she was very friendly. When she bought our check over, I scanned the QR code to pay through Toast Pay. It was very easy. I can't wait to come back to The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar.

Yelp
Beautiful location, right on the water! the sunset must be amazing. We had a later reservation so it was dark outside but the time, it's something to keep in mind. Our server Maddie was exceptional. She described the dishes so well, it was mouthwatering as we listened. Her suggestion were all great. The food is so awesome in Newport. This place is equally great. Muscles were amazing in a light tomato broth. The halibut special was described perfectly by our server. Tuna was seared perfectly, fresh n flavorful sushi quality, even the 3 bean salad accompaniment was refreshing. Parking is not validated. So better to Uber or walk to the location. The scallop was in a curry broth, I never had it like that perfectly seared then put in this curry gravy/ sauce, the combination waited very well. For desert we had the espresso gelato n key lime pie. Definitely a great meal.

Yelp
Food is good, view is amazing and service is fantastic. We got the lobster roll, clam chowder and cocktail shrimp. I highly recommend all of them. It is a little overpriced but I think it's expected because of the location. Service fantastic. They are fast and super friendly. Recommend to make a reservation on open table!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant right on the pier with an unbeatable view! We loved that the outdoor are is screened, so you get the full waterfront experience without the wind. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the food was really amazing. The oysters were fresh and perfect, and the sweet onion dip was absolutely delicious. The lobster roll was good too, though I think the bread could've used a bit more butter. Still, everything was flavorful and well-prepared. Definitely recommend making a reservation, it was packed when we arrived!

Yelp
Unfortunately, this was a pretty big disappointment for us. We visited on a Sunday and were seated indoors without a wait. The service was fine, and the space has a distinctly nautical vibe. They do have a parking lot, but it's not validated--so we ended up paying $33 just to park for lunch. The real letdown was the food. We ordered three lobster rolls and oysters, and every single item had shell fragments in it. Not just one or two--every bite of my lobster roll had shell and the oysters too. It was really unpleasant. We had a weekend full of amazing meals, so we were especially sad to end it on this note.

Yelp
Exceptional food, view and service. They easily were able to accommodate our group of 14 for lunch. Onsite parking was validated easily.

Yelp
8/3/24 Update: We came for dinner. - Cocktails were great! The group ordered southern style cocktails made with Makers Mart. It might've been the Bourbon Bramble. Very refreshing! - Appetizers: We started out with the Crab Toast and Baked Oysters. The Crab Toast was very tasty. Unfortunately, the Oysters were disappointing. - Entrees: I had the Halibut (Not the special) which was disappointing. Two people in my group had Lobster Rolls. They felt the Lobster was dry. Seafood Pasta was ordered. My friend liked it. - Service was pretty good. However, I think they could probably use more help, particularly on the weekend. - Ambiance: Restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating with lovely views of the water. The restaurant has a parking lot, but we didn't want to go through the hassle we did in '22. We parked elsewhere. Please see my original review. In the future, we might just come in for drinks and the beautiful water views. There are a lot of other restaurants in the area. Feel that the Mooring can do a lot better.

Yelp
Attentive staff and ample outdoor seating with an outdoor bar. The coconut mojito was amazing. I had the seafood mofongo in creamy garlic sauce, which was rich and delicious. I only with that there was more of the sauce, it was so good!

Yelp
Newport is full of amazing restaurants and the Mooring is up there as one of the best. Beautiful location right in the harbor and quintessential New England vibes. We started with oysters which were fresh and flavorful. For dinner we shared the Bouillabaisse for two and it was outstanding! It was a great value for what you were served. A large pan of fish, lobster, mussels, and shrimp in a fennel tomato broth and served with grilled bread and saffron aioli. This was one of our favorite meals we at this week. My husband, who is just becoming a seafood fan, could not stop raving about it. Please make this one of your stops while in town.

Yelp
Superb food. The clamp chowder is fantastic! My wife is gluten free and shellfish free. They are SO SAFE with the prep. They have a separate GF menu. The staff, especially Tammy, is well trained. They gave me my NGF rolls in a paper bag to prevent potential cross contamination. We ate 3 of 4 dinners here during our visit. I can't rave more.

Yelp
Superlative award for most photogenic food definitely goes to the Mooring! Visited in a gorgeous 70 degree day and sat in the enclosed area for a beautiful view. We had drinks and ordered: fish and chips, scallops and a kid's meal of pasta. Everything was delicious. Our server Jenn was fabulous! Very welcoming and had great suggestions. Great meal in a great location.
