The Best Jewish Delis in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"Originally opened in 1975 as a Bagel Nosh location, this Beverly Hills deli has since transformed into a full-scale delicatessen serving homemade bagels, tuna melts on rye, and brisket plates. The deli case is worth a detour with stacks of black and white cookies, rugelach, homemade chocolate cake, and more. With ample indoor and outdoor seating, the Nosh is an easy stop when in the Beverly Hills area." - Rebecca Roland

Best Avocado toast in LA? Best one I’ve ever had anyway. Absolute delish!! I’ll come back for it PS I asked for a poached egg on top, that’s extra. PPS this makes up for the stale/very hard bagels I had here last week. I wasn’t happy about that.

Google
Staff here is always on the look out for guests unless they're really busy. Wait time is decent and almost every time I visited, there was always seating. If you order for carry-out, you can walk up to the counter or let one of the servers know to assist you. There is no parking for the establishment since the street is very busy. However, they are close to a few public parking structures. Serving size portion of the food is enough for one person or can even be shared for two. They have neutral gender restrooms to the right when you walk in.

Open since 1975 The Nosh is one of the better known delis in Los Angeles. There aren’t a ton of delis in the Beverly Hills area so The Nosh really capitalizes on its unique location. I always stop in for breakfast, but I have known others who prefer to stop in at lunch, even though they close fairly early at 4PM. The food is not fancy. It’s definitely more comfort food, almost like a diner but more so a deli and breakfast restaurant. Service is very quick and all the employees I encountered were very polite. There is a ton of metered parking around, but there is also a parking lot directly behind the restaurant, which is very easy and close. They have a fairly large menu, but it’s definitely geared more toward deli type of food options. For my meal today, I chose the Shakshuka, which is the Israeli breakfast, and an onion bagel. The Shakshuka was really good and quite large and the two eggs were perfectly easy, so they tasted great once I broke the yolk. The onion bagel was also really good and a great addition to the meal. I would definitely recommend both. Overall, a really solid deli that has easy parking and plenty of seating. I would recommend to any breakfast fan.

Amazing omelets amazing eggs Great chicken sausage... goat cheese ... wish they had sweet potato fries and that is my only complaint. I definitely recommend The Nosh for an awesome breakfast. The staff was friendly... parking all around.

Google
Great breakfast cafe and service was top notch too! It’s my new fave in Beverly Hills. Just around the corner from Rodeo Drive and it’s open nice and early. I asked for my egg to be made overeasy because I like juicy sandwiches. Perfect BLT!

Google
Gotta try the Shakshoaka! Never had it before and it was certainly one of my favorite breakfast/brunch items ever! Conveniently located next to parking structure and walking distance to the infamous Beverly Hills park and other destinations nearby. The service was exceptional 👏 and food variety to satisfy all your family members and friends cravings 😋

Google
I'm shocked to my core because they literally ruin my dinner! I've eaten from this place twice and I always was get the Canon sandwich and it's been amazing each time! I was so excited to see it on Postmates so I immediately order the Canon so excited! Sandwich arrived no ROAST BEEF on the sandwich hardly no Russian dressing so l had go into my refrigerator and find some Mayo! l asked for the rye bread to be lightly toasted but it was almost burnt! The sandwich is extremely dry abs chewy! Honestly I wouldn't feed this to a dog, I'm so devastated! My hard earned money just completely wasted! How could the cook have gotten this wrong? They literally should fire the cook! I won't ever order from this place ever again! Shame on your staff and management'

Just came back from the Nosh in Beverly Hills, CA. today, Mother’s Day. We were seated at a table behind two women, and the owner was standing at their table, talking really loud, spewing all his political views and dropping the F bomb. We have eaten there many times and the food is great and Bryson our server was phenomenal, but shame on the owner. I just wanted to have a nice Mother’s Day brunch. Won’t be going back.

Yelp
As a BH resident I've been here several times. Food, service and people are so pleasant. I just watched the news and saw they are responding to the LA fires by preparing meals for our firefighters and police. Last year I noticed they were donating to the families and victims in the Middle East. Support this place for their wonderful food and their kindheartedness. We appreciate you Nosh of Beverly Hills!

Yelp
I wanted to reach out regarding the 4% kitchen charge included on my bill. I understand the need to support all staff, but I was under the impression that service charges or added fees require customer consent and that tips should go directly to the servers. As a customer, I believe it's important to know exactly where my money is going, especially when it comes to gratuities intended for the servers. If the charge supports the kitchen, it would be helpful if this were made more transparent or communicated in advance, so patrons are fully aware. Thank you for considering this feedback. I believe transparency in billing builds trust and enhances the dining experience.

Yelp
Been passing this place for years and today came in for breakfast. Ordered the lox stack without dill. The good - I took leftovers because the portion was more than plenty. Lox was fresh and not too fishy. The bad - latke a bit over done. Fruit was ok. Ordered coffee, got charged for latte and heard server discussing it w his coworker which kind of annoyed me. He adjusted the bill when I pointed it out, but it was still almost as much as a latte so maybe I'll have a latte next time. Coffee wasn't anything special, by the way. After that, things went a little south with my server...they had a fair amount of people. Prices were decent and especially for BH.

Yelp
Stopped by for Father's Day with my grandfather and dad we didn't have to wait to sit down which was great everywhere was packed even here for Father's Day. They have a huge menu with lots of options so picky eaters won't have a problem eating here. The seating at this place is wonderful and you get street views all around. Fairly priced meal as well I believe less than $70 for three people including tip. No complaints except that they didn't have eggs Benedict (only thing my dad really wanted)

Yelp
Overpriced. Rude workers. Bad food. The five star reviews have to be fake. How are they still in business???!!!

Yelp
Nosh: A Yiddish word meaning "to snack". The Nosh has been serving Beverly Hills since 1975. They serve simple deli style food and breakfast dishes. They are both a restaurant and a caterer. They've recently remodeled and their updated look is really nice. I like that they kept the layout the same. The restaurant opens early at 7:30am and closes at 4pm. Their most busy time of day is breakfast/brunch and gets more quiet towards the end of the day. It's a great choice to come with family and also a comfortable place for solo dining. Prices are reasonable. Food is not fancy but simple, no frills comfort food. I also like that their menu clearly delineates vegetarian options. I recently came here to pick up a sandwich. They have a cold vegetarian sandwich. It is composed of cucumber, avocado, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and hummus on whole wheat bread (not toasted). The sandwich comes with a side and a pickle. It's an excellent, uncomplicated vegetarian meal. I also recommend their coleslaw as a side. For dessert I suggest their chocolate rugelach. It's yummy. Service was wonderful. There were other takeout orders ahead of mine but I didn't have to wait too long. They also had free wifi which was nice to peruse while waiting. Metered parking on the street and also a lot in the back of the restaurant.

Yelp
Ron Magnum who has owned this Deli for many years does a fantastic job of running it. The menu has a large choice of food. The service is spectacular and the cooks do a fantastic job. Try it next time you're looking for a great meal. Tell Ron I sent you!!!

Yelp
Nice ambience and good service. The lattes are tasty. The potato latkes have not been great both times I've been here but all in all, it's an acceptable and nice casual spot.

Yelp
Twice a month for the past 8 months I've eaten at Nosh. I meet with my CPA across the street from Nosh and we walk across the street to Nosh out of convenience. Every visit we have had an issue with our food and slow and rude service. I ask myself why I keep going, we are all guilty of patronizing a business out of convenience. That being said yesterday was my last visit to Nosh. After another miserable experience I ask to speak with the manager or owner. I was told by our server that there was no one available in charge available to talk to, he went on to say complaining would not make any difference because the owner "David" was a asshole. This restaurant has the feel that it's out of business but just don't know it. For a restaurant in Beverly Hills it very dirty and ran down.

J H.

Yelp
Rip-off. Open your cream cheese container before you leave to see they carve a big hole in the middle to rip you off. If these new owners do that with the cream cheese, you can be sure they're ripping you off every other way they can. Never going back after 45 years of patronage.

Yelp
A local place amongst a popular area. It's a hidden in plain site gem that serves Jewish NY deli food. I'm picky about French toast because it typically doesn't hold well against syrup, but this one does. The picture is ugly, but you can see the egg inside to show that it's structure. It was a great sweetness with the other savory dishes. The Roxbury is a lighter take on pastramis I've had on the past, meaning it stays true to its authentic form. Perfect for lunch time compared to The Hat or even Benjies. You can taste the rye bread and the coleslaw instead of both being overpowered by the meat. Lox bagel with the fixings was suggested and it was a smart one. For someone who doesn't like capers, olives, or cucumber, I was quite surprised by how much I actually loved it! It was the perfect compliment of flavors that balanced each other out while being bold in taste. Service was nice and they gave me an iced tea even though I didn't ask :) We were able to order one of every muffin and bagel before leaving. Summary: Overall, it was a clean, bright atmosphere that was built for balanced yet complex palates. Perfect for meeting up with friends!

Yelp
Good food but calling shashuka an Israeli breakfast is insane. How about you have actual Israeli breakfasts and not try and rebrand someone elses culture as your own.

Yelp
Food is good: very enjoyable. Service is always great. Ambiance is relaxing. I'll eat here whenever I'm in town and have a few hours to relax. Today I stopped in. Looking forward ti sit and work, was a bit to was crowded for inside, so I requested a table outside in the shade around the corner. Quickly the manager of the place was trying to talk me out if it. Stating I would not get good service. He pointed to the window where I could see where I asked to be seated and there was a person outside already. ???? Does that mean they got bad service? I asked again as it was warm inside and I did not want to sit where car exhaust was feet away from me. Again "we may not give you good service." So I left. Why stay if I can't get good service right. ... I'll be back to try one more time perhaps, hopefully I get better service than I did today.
google avatar

Yelp
Best breakfast and lunch any day of the week. Greatest coffee and fresh baked pastries too.

Martin P.

Yelp
I've gone to Nosh several times in recent months. I'm always looking for excellent pastrami at a great deli. Nosh is high on my list. Their pastrami is excellent, as are things like whitefish salad, creamed cheese, and coleslaw. Their bagels are very good. The service is great, quick and accurate, though I mainly ordered to go. Nosh should be on anyone's list of excellent delis in Los Angeles. I ordered pastrami on rye in the restaurant once. It was great though I can't remember what the bread was like. I'll have it again, soon. I hope it's twice-baked. I ordered chopped liver today, along with other stuff. I'll report later.
google avatar

Pym X.

Yelp
Worst hash browns ever had. Inedible. Coffee was so burned no amount of cream could mask it. Omelet was ok but the cheese was just Kraft slices

Michael S.

Yelp
I would say best bagels and Nova in LA, highly recommend! Service was excellent as well. Will definitely be back next time I visit!

Mike G.

Yelp
if you order a bagel with cream cheese online, you'll pay $3.29 for the cream cheese and they'll barely wipe some on the bagel. Rip off... But it seems this is consistent with this place after seeing the same complaint above.

Yelp
I had training in a nearby office building and we ordered from this deli. I ordered the French dip sandwich which arrived unlabeled. It was the only sandwich not labeled that we ordered. The sandwich came with a side salad which was good with a homemade vinaigrette and I chose a potato salad as my 2nd side. The potato salad was alright, just different from what I am used to. It had peas and various diced bell peppers. The sandwich was sad looking, but tasted really good and I could tell it was made with high quality roast beef and a nice baguette. Didn't really have great presentation.... thats fine....i am mainly concerned with taste. The jus is pretty standard. I have no idea about pricing, but I'm guessing it is commiserate with the area. Overall, I'd order from this deli again if I was ever in the area.

Yelp
Get the scrambled eggs and get 'em scrambled lightly. It's like you can cut open the eggs and they melt everywhere. Get the super fresh Orange Juice! Aw man. So fresh and simple and so delightful here. Service is fast. Nice seating arrangements.

Yelp
Mom had a follow appointment around the corner from here. It was noon and I skipped dinner the night before as well as breakfast, so it's just natural that I'm starving. I saw this place as I drove by and got curious, and with Yelp's help, and after going through this page, I got even more curious. ONE ISSUE: I had the pup with me. We walked by anyway even just to take a peek inside. I knew they had seating outside. What I didn't know is what you can order from the outside using their QR codes on the table. Of course I was happy! So, I scanned that bad boy and went through their menu. So many CHOICES!!! Did I want a pastrami? Did I want a corned beef? Could I possibly have both? What would my parents like?! It really was an easy choice. CHICKEN MATZO BALL NOODLE SOUP: Ordered this for Mom. (She was, after all, coming off a dental appointment. I figure this would be good for her.) No, I didn't get to try it. Yes, it was good. How would I know? Because she ate it all. (Again: this was post dental appointment. That says a lot.) So, yeah, I'll have to give this a try next time! THE ROXBURY: Exactly what I wanted: a combo of pastrami and corned beef. This sandwich is big enough to share with another. (I could only consume half!) Came with a side of nicely seasoned and crispy fries, pickles and delicious coleslaw. But... (yes, there is one of these, sadly...) the meats were both dry. I'm not saying the sandwich as a whole was horrible, but it can definitely be better. Juicier meats could be the game changer. NOSH CHEESEBURGER: Pop's choice. I sliced a small portion and had a small bite. The meat was cooked medium and seasoned great! It was also nice and juicy! He most especially liked the fries, so this was a good hit. FOOD: 3. (3 for the sammich, 4 for the cheeseburger, a 5 for the chicken noodle matzo ball soup.) SERVICE: 5. Juan was excellent and he timed everything perfect. No snags here. VALUE: 3.5. Reasonable for what you get and even more so especially for this area. PARKING: Street. However, there is a 2hr free parking at a structure on Roxbury (only a block away) so not an issue. OVERALL: 3.75. Mom still has follow up appointments and we've collectively decided to eat here again. Looking forward to that next visit!

Yelp
Very disappointed. I used to go 2x per week for lunch when i worked at Saks. Went with 3 other ppl. The deli was like nate n als. Real deli meat . Not pre packaged. I stopped working and living nearby several yrs ago. My favorite lunch was chopoed chef salad . Or any sandwich with fres meats. Today i had a Dr appt on Roxbury. I went to counter . I ordered 1/4 lb of rare roast beef. I saw them take from a SEALED pkg like boars head. I paid $13.50 and it DEFINITELY WAS NOT 1/2 lb. I tasted the meat. Its no better than going to vons or ralphs and getting processed meat prevpackaged. Save your money. Never again. Very disappointing. Next time i go to a real deli that roasts / cooks meats onsite. Overpriced. I grew up in BH . LOVED " The Bagel Nosh" which became " The Nosh" . Yuck. Sorry i could not be more positive.

Yelp
I agree with Thomas J's review. I also have a 4% Kitchen Gratuity added to my subtotal. I used to tip 20%+ because the wait staff tips the kitchen staff out but now I'm paying for both. The worst part is that the restaurant taxes me on my subtotal AND on the 4% Kitchen Gratuity. Hu? Why is the special tax being TAXED?!? Let the Franchise Tax Board sort this out. Do not tax me on the 4% gratuity I am involuntarily paying. You math isn't mathing.

Yelp
Amazing!!! Great service and fresh food. You can find kosher style food here, is not a kosher place. We got the shakshuka and bagel & cream cheese. Nice place, fast service, parking in the back, great food.

Yelp
Just a block over from Rodeo drive in Beverly Hills. Great service and food at a fair price. Everyone there was amazing from the host, to the server, to the young man busing tables. Will definitely revisit the next time I'm in the area! Buon Appetito

Yelp
The bagels here are yummy and the breakfast is decent for the area. Customs service could use work, the people who work here are not very friendly.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
Service blows and they're way overpriced... food is decent if you can ignore the rudeness of the servers and management...

Blair S.

Yelp
I just walked in asking for a cup of ice as it's currently over 100 degrees here in LA, and I was charged 75 cents. Seems extremely ridiculous for a cup of ice...

Moabite137 ..

Yelp
I ordered a corned beef sandwich. I asked for lean cuts only. I reiterated multiple times that I wanted lean cuts only. Well upon returning to my office I was completely disappointed. Small portion that is layered in fat. I would not recommend this place to anyone that wants a decent corned beef sandwich. $30 wasted!!!
google avatar

Niki T.

Yelp
Pretty dang good. Friendly staff. Excellent quality ingredients. The pastrami on my Ruben was very tasty. The only negative thing for me was the lighting above the booth was way too bright and gave me a headache. Maybe switch to a warmer toned bulb?

Wils S.

Yelp
service was awful. I don't know what has happened to this place, but I don't remember it consistently being disappointing in both service kindness/just being decent people and the quality has followed suit. The lox I have gotten twice now did not seem fresh. Bagels are meh and the prices are absurd (location location). Just a place that is comfortable being mediocre/declining and unfriendly because of customer base and convenience. Too bad. It could be good. Ambience is nice

Alysha S.

Yelp
Adorable cafe, amazing food and great service! This was by far the best breakfast I have ever had. Next time we are in the area we will definitely be returning.

Marcy B.

Yelp
Terrible food for myself and 2 kids, expensive and when told that, they did not care, made me pay $74 dollars for the uneaten food anyways

Yelp
Awesome food at the Nosh here. I love their Breakfast Burritos and French Toast. The food is fresh and delicious. Nice place with nice people working here Menu items are great for your money. My first time here, and will not be my last.

Yelp
In the heart of the Beverly Hills district sits a quaint cafe. Bright and warm atmosphere. Friendly service. Big portions of food. $27.00 for a hearty sandwich with side, pickles and beverage. I enjoyed my lunch.

Yelp
I entered the Nosh around lunch time on a Tuesday . Upon entering, I was greeted by a staff member and I let them know I am ordering to go. He pointed to where I should order and I headed over . As I waited for my order to get taken , I noticed it was fairly empty inside but the staff was hard at work on to go orders. A gentleman behind the counter did acknowledge me and let me know someone would be right with me and that they were kind of busy. I didn't mind to wait a little , eventually a lady came and took my order . I Decided to purchase an everything bagel sliced and toasted with strawberry cream cheese. Also grabbed a fresh orange juice to go with it. Here is where I became a little annoyed , I understood that the restaurant was incredibly busy however, a bagel order should of taken less than 5 mins . I waited a good 20 mins for my bagel to get done . I decided on the 4 stars on the strength that my bagel and orange juice was really good. Otherwise everything else I was a bit turned off by . Not sure if I'd return anytime soon, only time will tell.

Isabel V.

Yelp
The foods great and Karla was a sweetie! We stopped for breakfast and I ordered the two eggs with bacon and an everything bagel and it was so much more than I expected (but I mean it's breakfast right?). The hash was crispy and soft, the bacon was sweet and salty AND THE BAGEL. It's like it came out of the oven with two tops. Service was good and the place is clean and simple. I was a little nervous because all the negative reviews but I'm happy to say I'm glad we stopped by.

Yelp
Great breakfast and amazing service. Love eating here. Comfort food at its best. This place is a staple that I hope stays forever. Nothing beats the Nosh!

Yelp

Yelp
My client and I or sometimes with her family usually comes here for lunch. We came before the closing down of restaurants. The staff are accommodating and helpful. The food is good and tasty. But there was One time that I ordered a Beyond burger. I wouldn't order it again. I have tasted better. We hope to come back when they reopen for indoor seating. Metered street parking. Free 2 hour parking on the weekends on the parking structure behind the building.
google avatar

Eddie F.

Yelp
Following up on my previous review, I did go back and order a bagel with cream cheese yesterday. I standby my assertion that things have been cut back beyond reasonable point. This is the amount of cream cheese on my bagel. It's actually slightly more than last time but the photo speaks for itself. You used to have to wipe the excess off there was so much. Now it's just bread that has once touched cream cheese.
google avatar

Yelp
I order through Postmates twice and they don't enclosed a receipt for your order. Food is so so , I just order it coz it's close from work.

Lisa W.

Yelp
I went in the other day, and the food was great. I was greeted right away at the door. I ordered takeout, and the girls at the counter were very friendly! There was a little bit of a wait to get my food as it was during what looked like a lunch rush. I understand, no problem. My only issue was with the manager, Franklin; he was so rude to the employees (I speak Spanish)! Yikes! He was very unprofessional. Best wishes to the staff. As for the food, I will be coming back, it was delicious!

Yelp
Edit: Since the initial posting, I received a sincere apology for the experience. I also understand it could well have been an off day. I do appreciate the effort to improve and I will hope to return at a later date and try again. Original Posting: Had a very poor dining experience with a combination of dirty water, followed up by nonchalant / rude service, and then missing ordered items. It was a hot day so we first all ordered waters for rehydration. When the waitress poured the water, all the water had black floating things in it. When we mentioned the water looked like it had some issues, they didn't apologize. They poured us new waters, which still all had black floaters. Looked very unsettling and unsanitary. A simple glance would have made this obvious but there was no desire to ensure this issue had been corrected. When ordering, the waitress said she had to check to see if they had one of side dish menu items we ordered. Then she left and didn't come back to confirm whether or not this part of the order would be fulfilled. They started bringing out the food and this item never came. When asked about it after all the food arrived, she acted like this was a new thing. She said she'd go and ask the kitchen to make it. Again, no admission of fault or guilt, and an overall apathetic attitude. They brought out this side dish 25 minutes after we had finished. We indicated we no longer wanted this dish and we were needing to go, as one of our members needed to get to LAX. She abruptly grabs the dish and leaves from the table. She makes us wait another 10 minutes before taking our check. No admission or apologies for this poor dining experience. Very iritating and unprofessional. Really wanted to like this place as it serves lower cost deli options in an otherwise high cost area. But unfortunately, you get what you pay for at The Nosh of Beverley Hills.

Yelp
Classic diner in a surprising location. Been here forty five years (I just had to ask). While I'm dishing (hehe), please know that there's always a difference with ANY restaurant if you eat there vs. getting it brought in, delivered, et al. I'm a big fan of reviewing a restaurant that you're actually eating in - not simply one that features food from a place. I think anything can happen once a meal leaves its restaurant. So, to be clear: This is about eating at The Nosh. And, in my limited experience, it provided a tasty breakfast, in a comfy surrounding with friendly and capable service. I don't know that I'd ever been here until this year, but The Nosh will survive with or without me. Still, I'd be happy to return. Eggs with pancakes and sausage is a good bet. You could choose bacon, of course. I always ask the server their recommendation on things like this. I definitely enjoyed the pork sausage - even if I hardly even eat that anymore. The eggs were cooked just right, and the pancakes were a nice combination of sturdy and light. Coffee is standard issue, and that's easy. Parking, on the other hand, may not be so easy. They do have an adjoining lot, though - so definitely take advantage of that.

So unorganized. Counter to go service takes soooo long. They really need to figure out a better system.

Yelp
This was one of my most disappointing meals this year. I moved to Las Vegas and was looking for a great New York style deli. I've been going to The Nosh in Beverly HIlls for years but haven't been there since Covid. I had plenty of time before my next appointment and thought it would a good idea to chow down there. The rundown front-of-the-house should have been a good indication of the disappointing meal ahead. We ordered The Roxbury (pastrami with coleslaw on toasted rye bread--$19.50. It came as out as a "smiley" sandwich where all the meat is pushed to the cut side and very little meat behind it. It was both skimpy and the pastrami was very dry. I've had this sandwich there hundreds of times and this was the worst I've ever had. We also ordered Small Matzoh Ball Soup ($10.79). The soup barely warm and the Matzoh was cold in the middle. The Chicken Noodle Soup ($10.79) was just blah... nut much flavor and again it didn't come out hot. We ordered 2 beverages (Iced Tea and Diet Coke-$4.29 each). As you can see the prices were out of line even for Beverly Hills. Even more disturbing was the automatic 4% added tip for the kitchen help... all in, the total check with tip came to $61.62. I know that restaurants in California took a big hit during Covid, but really, Ron, this was insult after injury... a sucking expensive meal/sandwich in a place I expected so much more. I really didn't mind the tab, but the food was just not good. Not coming back anytime soon.
