"This traditional family-run pub sits close to the river and is filled with pottery, bygone artefacts, fishing tackle and, of course, plenty of locals. Service is chatty, there’s a lovely deli, and they even have a lager brewed specifically for them. Flavoursome cooking uses local produce, with the fish dishes being a sure-fire hit, and all of the bread is home baked. The upstairs restaurant opens later in the week." - Michelin Inspector

Visited on a Wednesday evening while in the area. First impressions were really good but then didn't live up to expected standards. Were told that normally they would bring out bread for the table but we couldn't have any as had run out. Fair enough... Ordered fish and chips and was brought vinegar that was (unbeknownst to us) broken as didn't have the pouring stopper so vinegar soaked the entire meal. Waitress gave no apology for that just say 'oh did it ruin your meal'. The cheese plate dessert should have included 3 local cheeses. We were given 2 cheeses, but one of them cut in two ways to look different but was clearly the same cheese. No one spoke to us to say they had run out or to give us the option to change the order. The attitude was that we wouldn't notice, which is rude/arrogant/disrespectful. Our server dissappeared, we couldn't order any more drinks and no one came to check on us. In fact we had to go and find someone to be able to pay. Upon raising the issue about the cheese, the waitress just walked off and left us waiting without any information before the manager came out and did take accountability for the cheese issue and offered 10% discount. Honestly the dish should have just been removed from the bill but there we are. Food was ok. The cod was nice, but tartare sauce too strong with citrus. Cheese plate poor, even a 3rd cheese wouldn't have improved it, the "crackers" were not pleasant or suitable. The live music was pleasant. Visit let down by service, felt we were dismissed as non locals so wouldn't recommend to fellow tourists.

Made a reservation in The Oarsman for lunch and was really impressed. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the service was spot on, friendly and efficient without eber feeling rushed. The food was excellent. You can tell they take pride in what they serve, fresh ingredients, great flavours, and everything really well presented. It’s a step above your usual lunch experience, but still feels comfortable and down to earth. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Carrick-on-Shannon. Will be back for sure.

Google
Super staff and service backed up by an incredible kitchen. We had 1 x goat cheese and 1 x monkfish starters followed by a monkfish main and a wild Hake main. Stunning. Apologies for the lack of food photo, only thought of it at the empty plate stage 😀 Ps. Wonderful live acoustic guitar player in the background 😍

We had the most enjoyable dinner here. From the welcome on arrival, to the end of the meal we were made to feel comfortable and very well served throughout. The food was on another level of excellence. I'd say there isn't a poor choice to be had on the menu. Just outstanding. It was an unexpected joy to find this place and I would unreservedly recommend eating here

The food was nice, but the service was not the best. One of us has an allergy, we told them but they couldn't remove everything of that ingredient. They also forgot a beverage. The music was nice but too loud.

Stunning... amazing food, so delicious. Wonderful friendly staff. A great place to eat or have a drink. I'll be back

The monkfish was great. Mr John Crow played the guitar like no other with fingertip skills and great feeling for tempo, volume and choice of music. He made our day end in the best of manners. 😃👍

Yelp
Fabulous last meal on the Shannon. Food was great. Probably the best steak we've had in Ireland. Service was attentive but not overly so. One of the few places that knew when it was time for the bill. Classic two story pub with real wood burning stoves for ambience. Great night.

Yelp
Lovely two floors- amazing food and efficient service- nice draft list. Great vegetarian choices- order the seafood chowder! Chips are hot and plentiful!

Yelp
Bustling pub on the Main Street in Carrick-on-Shannon. 6 of us for lunch, 2 adults and 4 children. We sat at a nice corner table upstairs (I have no problem being tucked away when we are outnumbered by children!) Staff were friendly and efficient. The children's menu was good and they were happy. Now - let's talk about the important stuff...the roasted root veg soup was very good, as was the organic green salad - but the Chicken Wings with Celery and Cashel Blue Cheese were divine! Seriously, the best dish I've had in Ireland this summer - so good that I refused to share! Next time we'll ditch the kids and double down on the Chicken Wings and a few cold beers!

Yelp
Our favorite place where have dinner in town! It's always full so it's better reserve a table. We always choose something different so we can taste few things. They serve few types of bread and butter as starter: so good! We've been there several time and we had both fish and meat dishes. The organic pork with kale amd organic quail's egg was one of my favorite together with the beef burger and the pan fried fillet of hake. The chicken wings with the blue cheese sauce is one of the best in the county. The mussels pot is good as well. Good selection of desserts, beer and wine. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Lovely lunch here with the family. Steak sandwich and burgers all round. Place was very busy but the service was exceptional. The burger was made with an excellent mince, full of flavour and good ingredients. The steak had been well marinated, lovely flavour and tender. The two girls were included by everyone who helped us and then two beautiful desserts were gifted to them. Very kind. Thank you, we will be back.

Yelp
The glazed chicken wings were absolutely to die for, the environment was great, the service was great, and the craft beer selection was amazing. I had a version of fish and chips for my main course, and my only complaint would be that I didn't think the fish was to flavorful. If you're looking for a drink that is a little different, they make a wicked gin and tonic- the Gunpowder gin is so smooth!

Yelp
Went here because of the the Michelin star it received. That said, we weren't all THAT impressed. The appetizers were very good, as was the soup. The beer was also excellent. However, the main dishes were just ok. We were there for lunch, so maybe the dinner menu would have been better. All that said, the beer and appetizers were great and the service was very friendly. But the main food (at least for lunch) was just ok.

Yelp
Relatives told us this was a good place for a meal, and they were not wrong. I had the haddock potato cake starter, which was an excellent small lunch. The brown bread that came with soup was very dark, whole grain, and flavored with treacle. Delicious. "By the side of the silvery moon" playing. Every night there's live music.

Yelp
Excellent, excellent, excellent! That stands for Food, Drink, Service! Stopped in for a bit of lunch and we couldn't have picked a better spot. We had the specials of soup and dishes of pasta and veggies. Had a local brew that was an IPA and it didn't disappoint. Stop in when you're in town and I'm sure you'll agree.

Yelp
When you walk in door of this "gastropub" you'll want to get a table close to one of the two fireplaces in the rustic bar. You've got the full experience of an old Irish pub, but wait! Just take a look around and see the incredible food that the patrons are enjoying. This is no typical pub. We are talking gourmet food. Here's what we had for lunch: Starter: Seafood chowder Main: Baked fillet of Organic Salmon, tomato & herb crust, leek & fennel ragout, cherry tomato compote Dessert: : Poached pumpkin & cinnamon panacotta, confit of clementine's. Everything was delicious! I will always return here on my way to Sligo.

Yelp
The artisan sandwich I received was overwhelming, the cheese and chutney combination on the slice of bread (sorry, "sandwich") I received was actually a bit nauseating. Perhaps they should be a little less enthusiastic in their choice of ingredients when brainstorming sandwiches next time. The glass of wine I ordered never arrived, I cancelled this after my dining partner received their drink before the meal. I was charged for this on the bill despite this. Staff were pleasant, but having been a waitress myself for many years i noticed little slips in terms of etiquette - not offering condiments when we received our food, not checking to see if our food was ok (I had pushed my plate away, unable to finish after one bite, but this went unnoticed until we had both finished our meals and waited for someone to ask us if we'd like our bill), and with the chowder my companion had ordered, the butter for the brown bread had been placed on a hot surface because it splattered onto his clothes when he opened the packet over his plate - this should be kept chilled in the kitchen. The exterior of the pub is lack lustre, only the award plaques outside drew us in (I think the most recent award was from 2009 or 2010, from what i seen). Pleasant interior, I'd be tempted back for a drink, but not for the food.

Yelp
We had an evening meal here. There were some strange fruit and meat combo's on the menu. The food was OK, if a little pretentious. It was also more expensive than nearby Cryan's. Not bad, but could be a little less expensive and less ambitious.

Yelp
Best meal we had in Ireland! The organic salad was a perfect balance of flavors, fresh, and delicious. The pork burger with rhubarb reduction was superb.

Yelp
I came here because of a recommendation from a friend. It was Saturday night and we didn't have a booking but managed to get 4 seats at the bar. The bar man/waiter was very nice and promptly took our order for drinks. They had a lovely selection of wines. We then ordered our food and got a free selection of breads. When that was finished they offered more and topped up our wine. Then the main course came and it was a lovely beer battered fish and chips with peas so tasty. My friends were very happy with there meals too. Great atmosphere, good service and value for money. Definitely worth a visit if in Carrick on Shannon

Yelp
Two days of great lunches (so far). The Maguire sausage sandwich was very good, fresh fish plate was excellent. My partner loves their seafood chowder. Good selection of Irish beers...try their house pints....tasty!. Excellent service and managers who stop by to check on things.

Yelp
I had heard this place was excellent, and with few alternatives I ate here several times with my nephew. The food was consistently bland. There are def better places around, including Cryan's nearby.

Yelp
The worst service ever ! We arrived to the place and discovered that we made the reservation for 5 people instead of 7. They weren't pleased with that and made us feel uncomfortable with the mistake we made. Their first solution was to seat us at 2 different tables ?! I was shocked ! they wanted to seat a group of people in 2 separate tables and they stressed that this happened because we made a mistake (they found a table in the end ). We ordered a our main courses and beers. We got the bread after 25 minutes and it came before the drinks (not best practice ). The drinks arrived 10 min later. after approx 45 min the waiter who wasn't friendly came and said that the vegetarian dishes we ordered ran out and the he will give us another option with vegetables and salad (it took them almost an hour to figure out that the dishes ran out). The vegetarian dishes came out after most of the people at the table finished their dinner. The dish wasn't as described by the waiter the salad that was promised never came and the dish itself was bland, no flavor at all It was a risotto and 3 sticks of zucchini and one stick of celery (and it costs 12€) !! the staff never apologized for all the issues that happened. I will never go back to this place and will advise not to go there.

Yelp
Traditional pub with a good chef who's put together a simple well balanced menu and delivers on the promise of good food. Friendly bar staff and good value too.

Yelp
Wow I'm really impressed. I'm known as a tough one when it comes to food, but the food is really really good. On top its not that expensive. The staff are great and good with kids. Book in advance its busy.

Yelp
This place needs to change their name to Deliciousness! The food was out of this world. We came in around 6:00pm and they were able to squeeze us in. The wait staff was extremely friendly. Great atmosphere, great food and great beer. Next time we are here we will definitely be coming back. I do recommend making a reservation because even the bar was full. Perfect for a date night.

Yelp
Traditional pub with a chef who does impress. The menu is simple and well balanced and the food matched up to expectations and it's all at a reasonable price. The staff are informal and genuinely friendly, I like this place.
