The Best Restaurants In Aruba - Aruba - The Infatuation

"You’re in Aruba, so you’ll need to try its traditional dishes like keshi yena (the national dish, a ball of gouda stuffed with chicken, olives, nuts, and raisins), earthy goat stew, and Aruban-style oxtail soup with its collagen-packed broth. All roads lead to The Old Cunucu House, where they’re serving up the comforting classics with textbook precision. The iguana soup isn’t on the menu, but don’t be afraid to request it—chances are, your server will share stories of how this slightly sweet soup (which is eerily similar to chicken) is truly life-changing. And when it’s in season, order the cactus fruit margarita featuring fruit plucked off the cacti growing right outside. The restaurant is in a bungalow-style space from the 1800s, decked out with original tile, quirky floral arrangements, and a large patio that’s perfect for groups." - jacqueline dole

A great place to experience traditional meals. The staff is very friendly and their service is great. The food is delicious and was great to try some local dishes. We enjoyed the Funchi with cheese and Keshi Yena. The bread to start with, was also tasty, can't remember the name of it though. Very relaxing atmosphere to enjoy quality time with loved ones, while enjoying excellent food. Highly recommended.

Hidden Gem! Easily one of the better meals we had on the island! It’s off the beaten path, so it is a lot quieter than other restaurants. The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. The restaurant is beautiful inside, and the patio. We loved our meal here. Definitely recommend!

Waiters came to seat us at the door with food in his mouth. Also once seated he was still chewing food. Food was soso definitely prepped food. Lacks flavor beef stew was basic. Oxtails were 3.75 out of 5 soup is very small for the price.

Amazing food and service! Would highly recommend ditching the restaurant strips where the service is no existent and slow and head to this place. Very authentic. Every dish our table had was a hit which included coconut shrimp, oxtail, goat, beef and beef liver stew

The best place! Authentic, local food with a great local vibe. The food is delicious and the service is so friendly with a bit of that Caribean personality. If you truly want to experience local fare and feel then this is the spot to go.

The Old Cunucu House in Aruba is a remarkable dining establishment that rightfully tops many recommendation lists for its exceptional and authentic culinary experience. Stepping into this charming old home setting feels like visiting a relative and being treated to an exceptional home-cooked meal. The staff is universally friendly and welcoming, but it is the food that truly steals the show. The Keshi Yena, a cheesy and gooey local delicacy, is an absolute highlight, featuring well-balanced flavors paired perfectly with flavorful vegetables. It is a dish that could easily become a daily indulgence for any visitor to the island. The Konch dish is similarly well-executed, showcasing the kitchen's mastery of local cuisine. However, one would be remiss to skip dessert, as the sweet offerings are equally impressive and a fitting conclusion to this outstanding dining experience. Overall, a meal at The Old Cunucu House is a true 5-star experience, blending authentic Aruban flavors, warm hospitality, and a charming, immersive atmosphere. It is a must-visit for anyone seeking to savor the essence of Aruban culinary culture during their time on the island.

Highly recommend to anyone looking for great local dishes! We went here on the recommendation of our cab driver specifically for the keshi yena, made for a lovely meal after a morning of wind surfing. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious, and I love that it is located just far enough off the main strip to be accessible by foot without being too commercialized. Next time we're back in Aruba this will no doubt be one of our first stops for a great meal!
