This is the kind of restaurant that you visit for the ambiance as much as the food. When we visited during the winter, they had some igloos set up outside amidst a beautiful garden for outdoor dining, with mellow twinkle lights strung about. Inside, the fireplace was roaring and it was warm and cozy. I was in a "mood" when I visited, but even in my crappy emotional state, I could appreciate the effort that Pottery House Cafe was making to be a hospitable and memorable place to eat.
We were told that there would probably be a wait, and that they don't take reservations. When we arrived, the hostess said it would be about 30 minutes before we got a table, so we headed next door to the Old Mill Pottery House, where they have lots of beautiful pottery objects for sale (or in my case, for viewing). If you visit at the right time, you might even catch a pottery demonstration. This was a nice place to kill some time while we waited for our table to be ready.
As it turned out, we only waited about 10 minutes! The service here is top-notch and quick. Many of the plates and cups and things that the restaurant uses come from the pottery house next door, so it was neat to see where our plates originated from.
Because I was in a mood and feeling like a little ess-aitch-eye-tee, my appetite was gone, but I did order a Caesar salad, because I can't pass up trying a new Cae sal. It was good and serviceable but not the best one I've ever had, but it paired well with the soup of the day that I also ordered: the chicken tortilla soup.
I should mention that they serve a complimentary bread basket, which is warm, with a dollop of salted butter.
My children got mac and cheese and a grilled cheese, respectively, which were served with steak fries. They have a kids menu with these things and a couple more kid favorites.
The menu here is large and there seems to be something for everyone. This is one of the better restaurants I visited while in Pigeon Forge, and I'd definitely visit again.
