The 13 Best Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes in Sisters | Eater Portland

"This lovely restaurant, which started as an art gallery, creates a space of beauty, appreciation, and community. Diners eat next to paintings by local artists, and the large courtyard is awash in flowers and color. Emily Rickards, the general manager and daughter of the founders, Julia and Dans Rickard, is greeted by name by several guests, regulars, and returning diners. The beauty extends to the menu, featuring fresh salads and entrees, including the ultimate steak salad with organic greens, tomatoes, and onions tossed in a creamy homemade horseradish dressing. Reservations are recommended, but there may be room at the indoor bar." - Barb Gonzalez

I've been here many times for outdoor concerts during the Sisters Folk Festival. I love the atmosphere. Last night, we tried the food for the first time. I loved the halibut with the lemon cream sauce and caprese salad. I didn't love the artichoke dip but my husband did. There is something added to it that I didn't love but can't put my finger on what it is. The house salad was not appetizing for me but again my husband liked it. Overall, they have good food but it depends on your taste. I would go again.

What an awesome experience. This incredible restaurant is also an art gallery. I tried seafood lasagna, it was awesome. It had shrimp, salmon and scallops in it. Simply amazing

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Unforgettable Dining Experience! The Open Door might just be the best overall restaurant experience we've ever had — truly unforgettable in every way. From the moment we stepped inside, we were welcomed so warmly by Julia, the owner, whose kindness and hospitality immediately made us feel like family. The atmosphere is something special. It's a perfect blend of cozy, quaint, and eclectic. It feels like stepping into a charming home filled with character, elevated by the stunning art gallery of paintings tastefully woven throughout the interior space by Julia's husband, Dan. The setting alone is worth the visit. And then there’s the food. Wow! Every dish was bursting with flavor and was nothing short of incredible. From start to finish, the service, the ambiance, and the food were simply the best we’ve ever experienced. If you're anywhere near Sisters, Oregon, The Open Door is a must. We left full, happy, and already planning our return.

The Open Door is one of our favorite restaurants in Sisters. They always do an amazing job. We recently celebrated our wedding anniversary and they were quick to accommodate our autistic son's sensory needs and our large group. The food is delicious. I highly recommend reservations for dinner service. The outdoor patio setting is beautiful and the artwork inside the gallery is incredible!

The food was amazing. Service very good and friendly. I've had Italian at award winning places and the sauce on the lasagna had that fresh tang to it. Just wonderful. My wife's sandwich was equally good, she had the club. Very nice setting, we sat outside on the patio and it has been very relaxing.

I’ve been to Open Door three times now and each visit is fabulous. Getting reservations is a must and they are not open as late as I would expect but the effort to eat here is definitely worth it. There is an art gallery in front with the restaurant in back and there is also a beautiful courtyard with more art that is accessible when there weather is nicer. The restaurant is very small and the menu is seemingly limited but the service is first rate and we have always found great dinner options as well. Prices are a bit high compared to other places in Sisters but none are as good as Open Door. Perfect for a quiet family dinner or a date night if you are in the area. Definitely coming back soon. It had been 2 years since we were here, and we were not disappointed. The service was fantastic. Jen was the best. She let us have a slow, comfortable dinner. The food was amazing. Had the Pasta. My husband had the Halibut. Thank you. We will be back again someday.

This restaurant makes me happy. So happy that I find I'm scheduling our weekly hike dates past Sisters (we live in Redmond), just so we have an excuse to stop there for lunch on the way home. The staff is always very kind and efficient. We have particularly enjoyed having Kellen as a server. We love the unique flavor profiles in their food. My husband particularly likes the Tahini Bowl, and their Fall Salad is a favorite of mine. And their corn and coconut bisque. And their halibut. And their desserts. Enough said. They also have a very nice atmosphere both inside and out. We thoroughly enjoy perusing the beautiful art inside the gallery. Today we had a bit of a wait, but we were able to order drinks and sit in their shaded outdoor seating area while waiting for our table. That was after we spent time in the gallery. They have a good thing going there. It's unique and thoroughly enjoyable. As I said, this restaurant makes me happy.

Yelp
This is the restaurant we always introduce to our out of town family & friends. We arrived a bit early & grabbed a glass of wine & enjoyed the garden for a few minutes before being seated. We had a party of seven & sat outside on a beautiful summer evening. Brussels sprouts & focaccia bread were perfect appetizers. Everyone loved their meals. The seafood lasagna was enough for two. Most of us ordered the delicious halibut & ate 1/2 for lunch the next day. We ordered a couple of desserts & the table shared them. The Open Door is a great place to make new memories!

Yelp
The ambiance is absolutely beautiful--outdoor seating with a warm, sunny breeze, relaxing music, and plenty of flowers to admire. The vibe was peaceful and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind. Service was attentive, though a bit on the slower side, we waited almost an hour for the main course. They do have a kitchen break between 3:30-4:30 PM, and I'd recommend making a reservation if you're planning to visit during peak hours. The food was fresh, flavorful, and creatively presented--it's clear the chef enjoys experimenting with unique flavor combinations. My husband tried the seafood lasagna, which was a tasty and satisfying treat. The scallops dish was also delicious, though slightly too salty for my taste and quite light--it came with a small amount of polenta and a vegetable purée, so I found myself a bit hungry afterward. Many people around us were ordering pasta, and it looked fantastic--definitely something I'd love to try next time. Overall, a beautiful place with great food and a memorable atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Finally purchased a piece of their art! An original canvas painted by the owner that was used for a past quilt show poster. I'm obsessed!

Devin R.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Sisters. The art is always fun to look at and the food is great! I highly recommend the artichoke dip and seafood lasagna.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the patio dining experience and the food was ok, pretty awful service.

Yelp
Excellent service and atmosphere, must visit if you're looking for an engaging and meaningful dining experience. The band, amanda wrenn and patrick leonard, was amazing to bring the sunset and experience all together!

Yelp
While in Sisters for the first time, friends took us to the Open Door for lunch. I don't often post Yelp reviews, but this is special. In addition to friendly service and fantastic meals, you sit amidst a sea of stunning works of art. I ordered the Grilled Chipotle Turkey Club with an arugula & beet salad that was delicious, as was the smoked albacore appetizer spread. Our waitress, Greta was both charming and engaging -- the kind of service that elevates an already amazing meal.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Best Fall menu ever! Fresh off the vine tomatoes made a wonderful bisque and the salad with roasted squash, onion and avocado was to die for. Decor is one of the most inviting spaces. My highest recommendation!
google avatar

Kier H.

Yelp
Oh my goodness! What a wonderful evening at Open Door. We had a terrific server, Greta and a great visit with the owner Julia who gave us a history of this amazing spot. We all loved our meals and of course dessert! We sat in the gallery surrounded by one of our favorite artists, Garth Williams. This is a very special spot in beautiful Sisters....we will be back. Thank you

Yelp
Visiting from out of state. Stopped in on a whim, early dining, 5:30. When we approached the front desk we were asked if we had a reservation. "No", we haven't a reservation. Yikes, I don't think they like that judging by the look we got. Luckily, we got a table! (Woo!) Our server Chris was positively amazing. Hands down the best of our trip thus far. We had Brussels for app, meatballs for one entrée, and halibut for the other. Truthfully, as others have mentioned...skip the halibut. Dry, no flavor, and grateful it came with a lemon wedge. The lemon raspberry dessert was everything! Would I recommend this restaurant? Yes. Would I choose a different dish? Yes.

Yelp
Great value and a perfect location. Ample parking and walking areas are nearby, so folks should have no issue finding a place to access The Open Door. The restaurant is in a shared space with an art gallery, so follow the correct signs to enter the right door. During warmer weather, the large patio will be open. The staff are quick to help you find a seat or the waitlist when you arrive. The dining area is quaint, so keep the volume down to respect other diners. We sat against a small window with stained glass art at midday, and the sun warmed us very nicely with chilly outdoor temperatures. The menu is small, so I was glad to have few options that kept me from feeling food FOMO, since my guest is unable to eat the same options as I. After a few recommendations from the server, we ordered a seasonal flatbread and a beet salad with chicken. The wait was not too long, and the staff checked in on us at pleasant intervals. As a self-described salad lover, I know I may be the odd man out when discussing how to make salads better. However, I would have to rate this beet salad as a 2.5/5. For almost $20 a bowl, there should be far more beets and other fixens than a massive plate of arugula. Don't get me wrong, I love arugula, but the value was not there. A salad with five or fewer visible ingredients is lost on me. I would recommend adding roasted chickpeas, herbs, shredded carrots, and more local ingredients to smash this out of the park. Their other menu items seem well done, so I would not hold this against this place. The flatbread was substantial, with lots of seasonal squash and brie. 5/5 on this one. This is a great choice for any health-conscious diners staying or driving through Sisters.

Yelp
We went here for an evening meal. The food was so very good. It was a relaxing place to spend some time. The service was so very friendly and helpful.

Maureen C.

Yelp
Food was good, 4 of us went tried the special seafood lasagna... different nit my favorite but my partner loved it. I had the regular lasagna and that was SO good! Service was a smidge slow but they were busy, and we were having a good time. We will go back.

Jean S.

Yelp
Disappointed this evening after many enjoyable meals! Must have too many new staff working on the same shift this evening. My halibut was cold, service was so slow that we timed out of our table and couldn't order desert?!? It was a birthday celebration as noted in the Resey reservation and nothing there this eve was remotely special. Sadly, will have to think about going there again.

Yelp
Was so excited to try this spot. Ordered the soup - tomato bisque; on the menu it said it was served with bread. It came out alone. I asked for bread and was charged $2... Also ordered the brussels, as they're one of my favorite foods but these fell short. Soft and steamed, NOT crispy. Also comes with smoky bacon, balsamic and parmesan?? Odd pairing of flavors that didn't complement each other. If they served these crispy minus the parm, they'd be perfect! My friends got the salad with sweet potato and both loved theirs. Sweet bartender/server and kind staff.

Yelp
This is a charming restaurant inside an art gallery. The staff is super friendly and service was excellent. Each dish was full of flavor, the three of us all got a different entree so we could try different dishes. Don't miss out on the artichoke dip for a starter! You won't regret it.

Charity G.

Yelp
Absolutely! This is one of our go to restaurants. Love the location, food and art gallery.

Stephen W.

Yelp
We were at Open Door on Saturday night without reservations. Luckily there was a spot at the bar. Friendly bartender ( Olivia? ) and patrons. We had the Halibut and the Seafood Lasagna. Both meals were outstanding. The starting beet salad was a treat as well. Drinks (Negroni and Smokejumper) were spot on. This will be another go to place when we visit Sisters.
google avatar

Sheri D.

Yelp
Yummy lunch inside a gallery. Enjoyed admiring the pictures and then the food was art! And flavor amazing! Love it
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Great and unique place to have delicious bite to eat. The salad was hearty and filling and the tomato bisque was delicious. The gallery itself was a delight! Everyone was very friendly - it was a really great lunch experience overall.

Yelp
Beautiful and fun place for dinner. Definitely make reservation: the weather was cold and seating was inside only. Not many tables so reservations are a must. My hubby and I split the sausage lasagna. It was good with beautiful marinara sauce and delicious Parmesan but the sausage itself was a bit bland and could have done better with some more spices and flavor. We also had the beet salad: delicious warm cubes of red beets with arugula, nuts, goat cheese. Very nice! I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir Rose which was not what I liked at all, Chris our server was so sweet to bring me a Chardonnay instead. I was impressed with the ambiance and the service, a little less so with the main course. But so worth it when in Sisters! Beautiful cocktails list as well!
google avatar

Crystal M.

Yelp
Loved this place. The food, the service from our waiter Chris and the ambiance were top notch. Not to mention the Frosty Sister Cocktail, artichoke dip and beer salad!
google avatar

Yelp
They are a hidden gem in Sisters. I thought they were an art gallery only for a time, but friends told us about the restaurant. Their food is excellent, service down-home, and the bonus is the local art on the walls. I'd love to take home many of the pieces, along with the yummy leftovers!

Linda D.

Yelp
We now live in Sisters and have discovered the superb food, awesome setting and great customer service of The Open Door. We visit at least once a week, taking our guests there as well. Also love all the artwork in the Rickard's Art Gallery. ~ Allan & Linda

Yelp
Had a great lunch here. Good wine list. All of the food was fresh a tasted amazing. Next time we pass through we will stop here again. Sydney our waitress was perfect. Great service and smile.

Yelp
Excellent service and great food. The owner works there and actively manages the restaurant. What a gracious lady! Everyone working there seemed dedicated to ensuring customer happiness and satisfaction. The weather was hot and the place was crowded, yet the staff moved with purpose and smiles. While there, we were hit rather suddenly with a surprise rainstorm, so the restaurant team scrambled to open umbrellas and move as many patrons inside as they could manage. We were impressed as they continued the business at hand without interruption in spite of the minor chaos created by the wind and rain. We were so happy do have dined there. We are still talking about The Open Door, and smiling as we relate our story. Everything that we had there was delicious. Fantastic place! We will return!

Yelp
Great atmosphere and great food, staff was very polite and accommodating. I enjoyed the local artwork at the restaurant.

Yelp
Ocean Prime is our go to place even though we live in Las Vegas and have so many other great choices. Just ask for Jeff as your server and you will be back before you know it. The food and service can't be beat.

Yelp
Went there for dinner, party of 6. I was the designated driver so I ordered a cran/oj. Despite the fact they have a bar, they don't have Cranberry, they offered Pomegranate instead. Horrible, but whatever. We ordered three apps, Bread, not complimentary, Brussels sprouts and Burrata. All very good. Took a while for the waitress to take our dinner order though. They have 6 entrees on the menu for Dinner. I ordered lasagna as did 2 others in our party. They are known for it, and I've had it there before, it's very good. For context, we are there at 5pm on a Saturday for this reservation made earlier in the week. Waitress comes back after taking our order and informs us they only have 1 order of lasagna in the house. 5pm Saturday night, signature dish. I switched to the pork chop and mashed potatoes, another switched to a seafood Lasagna which was a special. Thumbs down on the seafood lasagna my friend switched to. Pork chop was fine, didn't like the sauce they used on it and the mashed. We are not quite done eating dinner when the waitress comes to us and says, we have another reservation for this table at 7pm, which is in 15 minutes. Never offered coffee, never suggested dessert. The bill came, we split it even, 3 ways . We spent $450. If they had offered coffee, dessert, after dinner drink, the bill is $550 plus. So, as I'm scoring the experience, Drinks 2 stars, food 2 stars and service 2 stars. Chance of returning zero. They automatic charge a 20% gratuity on Parties of 6 or more. I always go over 20 percent but this is the first time in decades I haven't tipped at least 25%.

Cherie H.

Yelp
Found this delicious gem on yelp. Had a delicious lunch with cozy cocktail. Great food, drinks and ambiance. I had a cup of the soup of the day-tomato basil and lasagna- delicious!

Jeanette P.

Yelp
Probably the best meal I've had in 20 years this weekend. The Dungeness Crab Bisque was so delicious, the only thing missing was salty ocean breezes. The seared Scallops in creamy corn sauce----the Scallops melted in my mouth and the corn sauce was so fresh I thought I was back in the Midwest summertime. The corn kernels delicate and sweet. Such a carefully crafted and deft hand in preparing this meal. I've eaten here for 12 years, and never been disappointed, but this meal was one of the best I've had from anywhere in the world.
google avatar

Karla B.

Yelp
We went the day before Christmas for their brunch. WOW! I had the warm kale salad and it was spot on. Julia is such an amazing chef. Kate was our waitress and she is so warm and kind. Emily made sure that we had everything we needed. What a warm and welcoming nook with all their stunning art and ambiance. We are truly blessed here in Sisters!

Yelp
We had the pleasure of visiting The Open Door the first night of our trip in Oregon. We sat outside on the patio which was quaint and as it grew darker the strung lights outside were a nice touch of ambiance. Service was personable and we really enjoyed talking to our server (I wish we could remember her name!) throughout our meal! Our meal started with a garden salad and bacon, potato, and leek soup which was a great way to start. the salad was fresh and the soup was silky and had wonderful flavor. For entrees we chose the halibut and the real star of the show, the seafood lasagna. The halibut was flavorful, but the potatoes were a little dry. The seafood lasagna on the other hand was moist, flavorful, and FULL of alfredo and shrimp, salmon, and scallops + the portion was HUGE. I'm still dreaming of it honestly. To finish we enjoyed the spiked berries that were warm and cooked down to almost a jam consistency and paired with creamy vanilla bean ice cream. This was the perfect way to end the meal, we were saying we wished we ordered our own instead of one to split! We cannot wait to be back for one of the best meals we enjoyed in Oregon!

Anne B.

Yelp
Sadly I had high hopes for this restaurant. It is very popular and is always packed. We ate here a few years ago and the food was good and atmosphere very nice. Because we spoke highly of this place to friends, they gave us a generous gift card as a thank you for staying at our house. So decided tonight to go there.......bad decision...... First course was a dinner salad that comes with the meal. The salad was a wad of spring mix.....the kind you get in a plastic container at Safeway.....with nothing else to garnish it. No tomatoes, no cucumber, no cheese......except dressing. I asked for Ranch....no Ranch.....no other choice except a horseradish dressing. Blech..... I ordered the lemon alfredo pasta with chicken and spinach......bad choice.....the pasta was under cooked and the chicken was pre-cooked, chunks of bland chicken. The sauce was just ok. Olive Garden could do better. Why not use real chicken with some spices and grill it? It was awful..... My partner had the seafood lasagna, which he thought was good but I thought it had too much nutmeg. Dessert was a very small slice of flourless chocolate cake. It was just ok. Then the bill.......It had an added surcharge for "non-cash" payment. Hmmmmm......we pointed this out to the waiter.....we were paying with a gift card from their restaurant which is the same as cash....... Really? Restaurants are now tacking on a surcharge if you use a credit card? Will I go back there? Nope.....sorry......There are way too many restaurants in the area to waste money again at this one. Surcharge? I should have charged them a surcharge for the time I wasted going to this place.

Yelp
We took another couple out to dinner. We each had something different, and each dish was fabulous
google avatar

Brian H.

Yelp
First of all our server was great. Very attentive and really nice. The problem was the food. I have to give the chef credit for the tomato soup and the beet salad. The halibut was dry and did not have any flavor. I replaced the mashed red potatoes with the Brussels sprouts. Both lacked in flavor. We spoke with another patron and she had the same experience. We were given a gift certificate for the restaurant and our total was way less than the bill so we gave all of the difference to the waitress. We Will never be back. BTW we live in central Oregon
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
Had a wonderful time there. Amazing service and menu. We will definitely be back. Love the fact that there is an art gallery as well.

John A.

Yelp
Wonderful menu, which changes so need t check if your favorite is being served. But, it doesn't really matter because it is all delicious! The food is prepared to perfection add you won't be disappointed. M one of my favorites is the halibut. I have yet to get a dry piece .

Yelp
The Open Door's courtyard beckoned us from the street with its ample seating, displayed artwork, & flower beds! The staff were very friendly! The food was amazing! We ordered: Bacon & Roasted Brussels, Fall Salad, & Chipotle Turkey Club. They were all flavorful in addition to eye-pleasing!

Jane T.

Yelp
Very good food and service in a beautiful and unique setting. Their menu changes weekly with many interesting dishes.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
The servers here are super friendly and the restaurant itself is adorable - great outdoor seating and ambiance. We really enjoyed the beet salad and the salmon was good. The meatballs weren't anything special (just generic marinara sauce) and the soup was alright, but we overall enjoyed the experience and great service! Would come back to try other menu items and see if we like them better. Good option for dinner outside when the weather is nice!
google avatar

Peter F.

Yelp
A real romantic spot. Great drinks. My wife loves it. Sitting outside is best but the bar is good too. Some nights they put tables in the art gallery out front and you sit around the paintings and jewelry, kind of fun. There used to be a waitress named Kristen or Kirsten, a lady with long hair and clogs, the best server I've ever had and I don't just mean in Central Oregon. The Open Door is the probably the best dining experience in Sisters. Living in Tumalo and working throughout Oregon, I go to Sisters often. Unfortunately Sisters isn't a great town for food. The Open Door has some very-good food, and some pretty-good food. You never know which it's going to be. The halibut, meatballs, and lasagnas are solid. Berries and cream dessert is great. The menu doesn't change much over the years. If my wife didn't love it I wouldn't go back so often. Get bored eating the same dishes over and over. When my brother and his grown kids visit they like the atmosphere, especially those small houses outside with the plants. However they have trouble finding a selection that works for their way of eating, allergies, one is vegan and one is lactose intolerant.

Holly W.

Yelp
I ordered the scallops on polenta and every bite was pure heaven. I will certainly return.
google avatar

Colleen F.

Yelp
Overall we enjoyed our outdoor dining experience at The Open Door. My only issue is they had very few vegetarian options. We were having a family dinner and my sister and I opted for soup and salad, both of which were very good.

Anne K.

Yelp
We loved it! The hubs took me for a surprise lunch and it was fantastic. Art Gallery restaurant.. The food and atmosphere was so cozy. We had delicious bacon brussel sprouts, flavorful chicken chili soup and flat bread pizza. They have a huge outside patio that so reflect Central Oregon. Have to go back and try more! Big kudos to the chef and staff!
google avatar

Erin K.

Yelp
Ordered take out after a log hike. Kellan took my order and was super helpful and efficient. I ordered the seasonal steak salad which was perfect and the Brussel sprouts and bacon starter. My food was ready right on time and they were lovely and gracious as I packed up my to go order and got back on foot back to my house. I would return for sure.
google avatar

Diane P.

Yelp
Don't know where to start first we had the most amazing waiter! Kallen was professional, super friendly and just made our dinner experience extra awesome. The food was off the charts from the beet salad to the spring salad with a curry dressing. The main course was off the charts. I had the sausage lasagna which was superb. My husband had the lemon fettuccine which was awesome as well. The ambiance is like something out of a story book. Comfortable, really nicely decorated inside and outside. The cocktails were unique and well made. Not to mention the unique bar which is a vintage trailer! (Picture attached). If you are ever is or around Sisters Oregon you have to check this place out!
google avatar

B G.

Yelp
Service and atmosphere were great. Everyone liked their food and I can only say amazing things about the seafood lasagna.

Yelp
My second time here; first time for dinner. We enjoyed a wonderful New Year's Eve (and anniversary!) dinner...wow!! Although they were crazy/busy, service and food were wonderful. We will be back! They had an abbreviated menu for the holiday; anxious to try some of the items on their standard menu. Very small, intimate surroundings with a cozy, home like feel.
